Prof. Winguth has a very thick accent. While she provides helpful study guides that outlines exactly what will be on the test as well as posting notes via PDF and powerpoint slides i found it very aggravating sitting through a whole class. However, her test material and study guides are of some benefit.
Good professor! Powerpoints are very useful. It is best to use her powerpoints for key information, then look that info up in the book. PAY ATTENTION TO EXAMPLES!!! She likes to test over specific examples of each topic.
Easy A! Attendance isn't mandatory, but extra credit is given in class. tests are strongly based on study guides so it helps a lot. Class is pretty boring, nothing but slides and explaining.
I can count on one hand how many times I showed up to this class the entire semester, but I still made an A. Everything you need for the exams is on Blackboard however there are lots of extra credit opportunities that are only handed out during class. She also is helpful and responds to emails quickly. Easy class. Highly suggest her!
She's very nice and seems to really enjoy the subject. I thought that this class would be more interesting, but it's just nonstop lecture the entire time. She does give reviews on every test, so that helps! Attendance isn't mandatory and most people just show up on test days. She posts hw on BB, and emails you whenever a pwrpt slide is up.
Boring class. Uses power points and goes over them in every class. Attendance not mandatory but tests are extremely hard
The class is not easy, but not really hard either. She gives straight to the point reviews for tests, which are very helpful. Extra credit opportunities help too. Notes are clear and no tricks on the test.
She is a great professor, but her accent is awesome so it's distracting. He tests can be difficult if you don't study.
Easy subject to take instead of an alternative single science lab class. She has a moderate accent, so sometimes it's hard to understand her. All power points and guides available readily online. Tests solely based on the lectures and power points. A lot of memorizing, but fairly easy class. Boring for non-geo majors.
Hard class but she gives you everything you need to pass the tests. She gives study guides which are worded exactly like the test. HW is easy and helps your average. I have not used the book at all int his class and Im doing pretty well. Gives some extra credit through out the semester.
Very EASY class. Easiest I've taken at UTA. Everything you need is in the powerpoint slides. Reviews are very plain and simple. Super nice and sweet lady and knows what she is talking about. However, class is so hard to sit through. Very boring. Do not need text book. On homework just use the internet. I would recommend this prof.
Good teacher. She is organized, friendly and helpful. You do not need the book. It's worth showing up to class because she adds good details to the powerpoints. Her accent isn't bad at all.
Dr. Winguth is great. Lecture tends to get a little boring since there is so much material to cover. 6 homework assignments, and 4 exams. The final is comprehensive but the study guides help. She also gives back old exams to use as a study guide.
Good teacher but subject is very dry she does try to give you every attempt to make a good grade in her class. Test come from study guides and she gives extra credit in class. Not a bad teacher to take.
Classes are really dry and consist of mostly powerpoints. Be prepared to study a bit for the quizzes. The exam's are kind of hard as well so extra study time might be needed. She get's to the point with her course though which can be a good thing. Take it with the lab to get an easy grade. I barely did any studying and got a high B.
Good professor overall... Book is decent to help you read ahead, but all the quiz and test questions come directly from her lecture slides and study guides. Attendance is not mandatory but the quizzes are only announced 1 class prior, and she gives extra credit based on % of attendance. Class is dry but she has a good sense of humor.
Dr. Winguth tries to make an overview of geology, metrology and oceanography interesting. She gives homework 5 or 6 times through the semester which is not difficult. She also provides review sheets for each chapter, take your notes using these review sheets. Attendance is suggested because she gives random quiz questions during her lecture.
This is probably the worst class i have taken in UTA. I don't get the general objective of her class, especially after the 3rd test. It became a horrid class on memorization of continent broke up to form what continent during what period class with little emphasis on the significances of those events. Names and #s don't teach students science.
She was a great professor. I took the 1st part of Geology at Northlake & from taking the 2nd part at UTA from this great professor was just as good. The labs weren't bad with the graduate student & the pop quizzes were "unannounced", but technically you knew they were coming. Study the powerpoint lectures and you'll pass easily. :
Decent teacher. Took her for geology and she was pretty good. She records her lectures and puts them on BlackBoard. Does the occasional quiz, but lets you know in advance and drops the lowest quiz grade. Powerpoints are easy to follow and she shows a lot of videos. Tries to add a little humor into her lectures, which is great. Take her if you can.
pretty easy prof. does have pop quizzes, but announces them the class before the quiz so it's no surprise. tests are easy as long as you follow the study guides and powerpoints she posts. very funny and nice. book not needed since everything is on the powerpoints. recommended to go to class since you can get extra credit for attendence.
Great professor. The course itself is easy. She just lectures each class from powerpoint slides. It can be a little stale but she keeps it interesting with videos. She's very clear, and she just seems like a nice lady. There are "pop quizzes" but she warns you in advance. You don't need the textbook, just go to the lectures and you'll do just fine.
Her class is an easy A if you do all over her study guides & study a couple days before it. She does "pop" quizzes, but she warns you a class day before the quiz is given. You don't need to buy the textbook since she provides everything on BlackBoard. Also, show up to almost all her classes because she does offer extra credit for participation.
Reads stuff off Powerpoints and shows videos. The course itself is easy and she's more than willing to help you out. Pop quizzes, but she tells you in advance and she drops one of four. I got the textbook, but didn't use it. There's not a lot of grades taken, so make sure you get decent grades on everything. Would definitely take her again.
I never got the book, just go through the review and you'll be fine. She uses Lecture Tools as a way to keep attendance and participation. Her pop quizzes aren't exactly a surprise either, since she'll give a (not so)subtle hint about those. Also, it's an intro class where some heavy memorization is required. Read the PP slides, and you'll be fine
Super easy class! Just show up to class, participate by answering her online lecture questions so you can get extra credit points added to your overall lecture grade. Also, don't buy the book because you're never going to use it since she provides online notes and study guides to help you.
Records her lectures and supplies slide decks and script - very helpful in an online class. Read the textbook; some test questions from it. Provides interesting video links that relate to the material. Weekly assignments (not too difficult). Final paper and presentation is 20% of your grade, but she gives you time to do a good job.
The lectures are dull, but the class is super easy. As long as you do the study guide you will make an A on the test. The homework is easy, most answers online. She gives 3 extra credit points to your final grade if you come to class 97% of the time.
FIRST OF ALL IF YOU DON'T LIKE SCIENCE DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. While she is a good teach she is extremely boring. The only reason I ever attended class was to get my participation point on Lecture tools. She gives study guides which are long, and it is HEAVY IN MEMORIZATION! She also has 125 point ACCUMULATIVE FINAL! Should have taken Astronomy!
Four test. Four quizzes. Lowest quiz grade is dropped. Every section had a review. She had you answer questions for points for attendance and added a number of 1-3 to your final grade, depending on how many questions you answered. She also gave us a crossword for three points on the final exam.
German broad, but easy to understand. Really nice, if you ask for help and you attend class she'll help. Tests are tough, but I didn't study nearly enough for them. Make sure you attend class, she gives extra points for attendance.
Amazing teacher and her class is super easy. She gives all lectures and notes online to study with. She shows you pictures and videos and makes the class interesting. All you have to do is show up and take notes and pay attention to her slides.
She was a good teacher and used good detail in describing assignments.
Boring, I did all the study guides and was struggling to get an A, which didn't happen. I feel like I did so much and recieved so little.
Super easy A. Posts study guides at the end of each lecture. Do them and get easy A's on all the exams. Gives quizzes but drops the lowest one. Participate in Lecture Tools and get extra credit. Her lectures ate interesting and she uses lots of videos to break up the monotony.
Her lectures are dumb, half the time you have no idea what she is talking about, she doesn't explain things good and goes way to fast for you to even write the sentence she just said before she moves on, gives review half it help the other half doesn't and there is a lot more of the test that isn't on the review of power points. Her test are hard
She gives an assignment and a discussion board weekly (for the most part). Nothing is really too difficult. There are no exams, just weekly quizzes in which she gives a review, but some are hard. There is one final project which is a paper and a powerpoint. I made an A in this class, you just have to put forth the effort.
As someone who only took Geo1302 for a science credit, I found her lectures quite boring. She was quite nice and helpful, but don't assume this class is an easy A. You do have to study for the test, you cannot just show up and pass.
Relatively easy class if you study before tests. There are pop quizzes but if you go to lecture (which is bonus points) then you will know when the quizzes are.
Hard to understand. Makes test difficult.
Lectures are clear with everything you need to know. Bought the book but haven't used it. She gives "pop" quizzes but will usually hint when they will be. Has an accent but isn't too hard to understand. Quizzes and tests are pretty straight forward, if you pay attention to lecture slides you will pass.
She's a really understanding person and very intelligent. Willing to go over things again if you don't understand or missed something. Attendance isn't mandatory but you have to study for the tests or you won't have a chance. But she posts all the slides online as well as study guides. If you go through the guide, you'll definitely pass.
She has "pop quizzes" but if you go to class she'll tell you the class before that "you probably should study because a quiz may be coming up." She's a good professor and is passionate about geology. Study the PowerPoints and you'll do fine.
You need to attend lectures. I noticed a clear difference in my test grades when I had to miss a couple classes but I enjoyed her class. She is clear in what is expected and gives great hints at what you can expect on the quizzes and tests - also why you need to attend class. She also makes all lectures available online if you have to miss one.
There are only 4 tests and 3 quizzes. She is super boring in lecture but if you show up you get extra credit on the final. Hard to study for tests but most of the material is given in her power points. If you're not smart about the way you study for this class it might be difficult to get an A. Most hated class of the semester.
Winguth gives pop quizzes, but she warns you ahead of time so if you go to class you'll know about them. I found all of the tests and quizzes on Quizlet and just studied those. She has attendance questions but you didn't really have to pay much attention in class. She'll say you need the textbook, but I never even opened mine.
This class is so easy. The information is interesting, but it's not presented in a fun way. The tests are exactly the powerpoints, so study those well and you'll do awesome on the exams. Attendance is not mandatory but at the end of the year she'll use the attendance for extra credit.
Class is only 50 minutes long no matter what days you take it. There's a sign in sheet every time. Tells you a couple of days in advance that there might be a pop quiz coming up. Offers extra credit. Study the previous quizzes for the exams, she takes a lot of questions from them.
Winguth lectures to the T of what you need to know for her exams. There is no need for a book and there is no homework. Just show up, listen, take a quiz, and exam. Done. Easy A. However, it is hard to not fall asleep because her voice isn't crazy with enthusiasm. Would definitely recommend her if you want to learn Geology.
She give extra credit for attendance. As long as you follow her study guides and take really good notes from both her powerpoint and skim through textbook, you should be fine. She does give online homework, but it doesn't takes up much efforts. The lab is really easy. I'm not science person and I still managed to maintain A+.
Attendance not mandatory but will give extra credit added to final grade. Gives Chapter reviews so make sure you do those. Will have to purchase online homework and will drop lowest grade on that. She's good at curving grades and giving extra credit.
Offers a lot of extra credit. Each test she provides bonus points basically curving the test. If you study the reviews and do the launchpad activities you will be fine. Also all of the questions come from the study guide and launchpad activities.
This class is easy, especially if you read the book as well. There are exam reviews before every exam that can be used to study and extra credit opportunities. Dr. Winguth is nice and keeps class interesting, adding video clips and keeping a reasonably fast pace. Tests are multiple choice and not very difficult.
I'm a geo major and this class was boring. It's super easy to study for though and Winguth is helpful and explains things clearly.
1st Fall semester at UTA, was pretty nervous, but Professor Winguth made it amazing. If I wasn't a math major, I would totally major in Geology (or minor). Lab is 25% while lecture is 75%. Lecture is divided by 4 quizzes, drop lowest for 9%; 3 exams at 45%; final at 21%. Just study from the material posted on Blackboard & you'll do fine.
Enjoyed taking her class. One group project graded very leniently, 3 'pop quiz' (she gives you a heads up one class prior), 4 exams. She provides a study guide for each exam so as long as you use those, tests are simple. Missed probably 10 classes and walked away just fine.
She's a very nice professor, but her lectures are very boring. She gives three participation points at the end of the year if you show up to class often. There's a group presentation during class, a group essay, an individual reflection paper and a group service learning project at the YET. there's a total of four exams.
Great professor, works with you on missed quizzes if for legitimate reasons. Only graded on lab work, quizzes, exams, & attendance (extra credit). Her lectures are interesting & easy to follow using powerpoints & quizlet. "Random" quizzes but she gives hints when they'll be in lecture. Extra credit is a visit to Perot Museum with question sheet
Doctor Winguth gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Show up to majority of the classes, she will give you three extra points. She gives four homework assignments. You have the option to go to the YET and teach a class of 15-30 elementary grade kids with a group or take a Final with short answer questions. She is always on your side.
I took this course online and it was great! Professor Winguth has very clear expectations for her online students, and as long as you keep up with the course you will get an A. There are weekly quizzes, discussions, and assignments all of which are very simple to accomplish. As your "final" you write a 3 page paper on a catastrophic event.
Amazing prof., I took her for geology 1301 and 1302 and it was an easy A both times, all you have to do is go to class, she gives multiple opportunities for extra credit. As long as you follow the reviews she has prepared, the tests are a breeze. The only difference between the 2 classes is that she added pop quizzes (easy)so people would show up
easiest class ever. TAKE IT ONLINE. labs are fairly easy but it doesn't even matter bc the actual class is only based on tests! literally required 2% effort. took it with my friends so we did good on all the online exams. take this online classss!!!
Take it online and all you'll have is one lab day a week plus online tests once a month. Honestly didn't learn anything but it was an easy A and I hate science. Super easy not much more to say about it
I would describe her as a pretty average professor. Her class is easy and while she recommends you buy the textbook, you don't need it for exams. She does have pop quizzes to keep attendance up, but she also posts the slides online if you miss class. Very easy class. As a person, she's nice, but nothing really stands out as "great."
I recommend going to lectures to take notes. Also, she has pop quizzes. Study for tests!! Attendence isn't mandatory but if you go at least 90% of the time to class towards the end of the semester she gives extra credit.
She's a great professor I would suggest def going to lectures because most of the tests are from her lectures. she does do pop quizzes but she lets you know the class beforehand. do well on the lab section too and you'll get an A.
Wonderfully intelligent professor! This class rekindled my love for geology and I'm so happy to have taken it. The class is pretty test-heavy, but the exams are open-note and very straightforward. All the material is from the lectures, but she posts the slides and study guides!
Winguth is a good prof & was easy to understand (has moderate accent) The book is not required and there is a pdf version online. The hardest part about this course would be the lab. As long as you go to lecture you will pass. Attendance gets you extra credit points! Overall good teacher and I'm taking her again for GEOL 1302 next semester.
Class is straight forward. Exams are based on reviews, bit of discussion post and couple of assignments. Fairly easy course.
Gave extra credit for attendance. Really nice and responds to emails within 24 hours.
Cornelia is a real gem and she does a great service for the scientific community. She is able to articulate herself very well, gives plenty of extra credit, allows for creativity, and has a good sense of humor.
weekly assignments consisting of discussions and quizzes, not bad but sometimes pretty specific. mostly on quizlet. discussions require watching videos or doing small online activity. she's an easy grader, just answer the questions properly. also, one essay on a natural disaster, 3 pgs very easy.
This class is an easy A! Attendance was counted as extra credit, and tests were super easy. Reviews were helpful and any questions you didn't know were on quizlet somewhere. There were assignments probably every other week and they were an easy 100 if you put in any effort.
Attendance was extra credit, which could help if you need that. Lectures weren't anything memorable, but everything that would be needed on the tests were covered. You aren't required to buy or read the book, but I think for many people that was the difference between a C or B and a high A, if that matters to you.
She was an overall easy professor to understand. There was an assigned textbook but never used it. The assignments were discussion posts and quizzes every week that was fairly easy. There is a lab component to this class so it can feel like more work but overall an easy A if all the work is turned in.
Dr Winguth is a great prof, she really knows what she's talking about and her lectures are amazing. The tests are almost exactly like the reviews and she covers everything you need to know in lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory but she gives extra credit for questions answered in class. Doesn't require a lot of effort to get an A
Took this class online and it was simple, every week she laid out what we had to do. Mainly discussion boards and quizzes. Interesting class! I liked that she sent reminders every time we had something due.
The weekly assignments are very easy. The professor also provides valuable feedback when grading assignments. I probably read the book only once or twice. The course ends with a final paper and presentation, which is graded pretty leniently. The professor was always willing to help over email. I definitely recommend this course and the professor!
She was kind and understanding. I didn't have many issues during the semester to test her patience. Tests will cover details from lectures. Slides go along with the lectures and are available to atudsnts. She also allows the lectures to be recorded and to be live streamed. Study guides are also available before every test. It's all very helpful.
i took her for earth history and global warming. global warming is harder but both pretty easy if u just do the study guides and do the participation questions for extra credit in class, u shld be fine. shes a respected professor and there's not a lot of hw either, just a few discussions every now and then. her earth systems class is easy
Easy class and she clearly cares about what she is teaching. Class is done through bi-weekly modules, which is nice. The lab can be difficult but isn't worth too much grade-wise.
Prof. Winguth was great and was a fair grader. She always sent out reminders about work that was due and gave great feedback. You wont regret taking her class and you will actually gain knowledge from this course.
Never had any issues with this professor. Assignments were easy and there was no final because of the lab. Labs were easy as well, and the TA grades easy. No need to buy the textbook either, there's pdf's online and I didn't even read it often. About 3 assignments were due a week and at max, they took 2 hours to do. Overall pretty average and easy.
Dr. Winguth is a great professor. She is clearly an expert on this class. The class itself is not difficult at all. Tests have been easy so far and she hardly gives out any assignments. A lab is required for this class. The lab instructor is also great, but she grades harshly.
I took her online and it was really easy, most of the grade comes from the quizzes so just make sure to study. Assignments are easy, it usually takes me an hour and a half max to finish them. I also took the lab online which was good as long as you keep up with the due dates. It's an easy A if you do the work.
This class wasn't bad at all, you just need to watch her online lectures and do the quizzes, which can be a little specific but really aren't too bad. There's also other discussions and assignments which aren't hard either. I also took the online lab for this class, and as long as you keep up with the assignments, you'll be just fine.
Great and professor, she gives extra credit for attendance and curves exams.
A lot of material to learn, but her study guides are super helpful for exams. She has a few extra credit opportunities and curves exams. She is a great professor, take her as much as you can!
study her study guides for the test and you'll do just fine! there are lots of quizlets that i used that were helpful. I think i averaged an 88 on the exams but I did the extra credit paper and received a 95 on the group project, which helped bump me to an a. attendance is also extra credit, which helped bump my grade. shes very nice! good luck!
She is very knowledgeable about what she is teaching, you do not have to go to her lectures, but if you want extra credit you need to attend class. For every exam she posts a study guide, study from those and you'll be good, however the exams were 50 question and were a little hard for me, but if you like science take her, she is a good professor.
Honestly, her lectures were not the most exciting and the 50-question exams were hard if you don't like science.
This class was very easy to pass, would recommend it to anyone who isn't a science major that needs it for their science core requirement!
Her lectures are great! You don't really need to attend, but definitely go if you are able to. Study the slides and study handout she shares and you will easily pass the exams.
Extremely knowledgeable about topics covered. Not many assignments, only exams, brief written assignments/discussions on Canvas, and LAB grade. All materials were posted, including a review for every exam. Exams were multiple-choice but challenging. Be sure to get a solid understanding of topics covered by completing the review and studying PPTs.
Free textbook, clear grading, extra credit, and exam reviews are generally what will come up on the test. Dr. Winguth is a gem who really cares about what she teaches and is willing to help and answer questions. Honestly, take her global warming class -- you'll learn a lot from the lectures. How I perceive the environment now is different.
The only real issue I had with this course was the lectures. The PowerPoints she used were bare of information and the lecture was mostly her droning on and on. Very little to no class participation or engagement. The tests were very difficult and had material that was not discussed in class or in the textbook.
The professor was great, with only 3 to 4 discussions and four exams including the final. You have to study the slides and quizlets that previous students made( search geology 1330 Winguth). However, the TA grades very harshly would recommend staying in the lab and working on it and letting her look at it she takes off for every little thing.
I took her online Geology course. She is very organized with clear criteria. Sometimes the work load feels a little heavy but it is manageable. She is easy to reach, however sometimes she would tell me to reach out to the TA and the TA would never respond.
She uses all the time given to her on just lecture and in the lecture there are mc questions that she uses to take attendance. The tests are 50 questions long but she puts a curve on every test (even if its not needed). There are a few discussion boards too. Overall a very easy grader.
Professor Winguth was really sweet and was available outside of class, she provided great feedback on all assignments. I would recommend studying her lectures and taking notes before each weekly quiz.
Pretty easy class! Make sure to attend lectures and take notes in accordance with the study guides. All assignments were straightforward and the group project was pretty simple!
This class was awesome. It takes skill to not get an A in this class, in my opinion. One of, if not, the easiest A you can get on this campus. Take this class online, I don't know how it's like in person but if online, its fun. I love her grading criteria and I enjoyed making the presentation at the end. Such a sweet professor, made my semester.
Very good lecturer and put out test guides that were very helpful. If you look over the review you will do fine on every test.
If you're looking for an easy science credit but don't want to take an in person class this is the one. Class consisted of a weekly discussion/assignment and a quiz which aren't difficult at all. Just be on top of the work every so often and you'll do just fine.
Easy A class, recommend taking online.
Professor Winguth's class is straightforward - her lectures are informative, and she provides helpful study guides for the exams. The material can be challenging, but using resources like Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook and lecture notes can make it manageable.
She is very nice. Taking her SCIE 3303 as well now. Her lectures are very engaging, but not participation-heavy. Take notes because the lectures are more useful for exams than the reading. Just pay attention and come to class. Also curves exams! For GEOL 1330 we didn't have to pay for a textbook, used a free online resource. We did for 3303 though.
There were only about 4 tests the whole semester, including the Final Exam. She gives review sheets for each exam and everything studied on the sheets are on the exams. I really enjoyed the class, her teachings were amazing and each lecture is recorded so if u miss a class don't worry. Really easy and interesting class! You pass if u do the sheets.
Easy science credit, recommend taking online. There is a short quiz and one discussion/assignment due each week but nothing hard. Quizzes are easy and assignments can take a little time and research but not hard at all. No exams!! Would definitely take again!
This class is relatively easy because there wasn't much workload or exams. The final is a 3-page minimum about topics she chooses for you. However, the lab portion does require a significant amount of time. But the TA provides resources to make it easier. Overall, a good, easy class to take if you need a science class with a lab section.
