Prof. Cory is young and energetic professor. He has a passion to teach and people willing to learn. No homework assignments, all you have to do is finish up quizzes & given tests. One or two research papers. I wish I could achieve A, due to my work schedule. Highest recommendations for him. If you work hard on his class. It's an Easy A.
If you want to pass, you HAVE to seriously pay ATTENTION. This class was very difficult for me. Quizzes are online but you get an hour to do them. It was hard to find the answers for the questions in the book. He does give a study guide, but they are very long. The quizzeshad some questions on the test. Dont take if Government isnt your bestsubject
All assignments are needed to be done and tests needs lots of study time. You won't pass if you don't study or pay attention to lectures. Excuses are not an option. You have to be prepared in order to understand what's going on in class.
Professor Colby is really involved in politics, makes me feel like I'm really learning something. He used to be a teacher in high school so he's pretty understanding. Very funny and intelleganet. You need to show up and do you work to pass, and need to study!!
Professor Colby is so passionate about what he does that I came into the semester dreading his class and I left wanting to be more involved in politics! Plus, he's super sweet and keeps his lectures fun and very interactive. You can pass the tests as long as you show up to review day and study that material/power points. 10/10 ign professor!
Best professor I have had yet!!
Professor Colby was the best professor I've ever taken. He really really wants you to succeed. He gives you test reviews and does fun activities with you so that you really understand the material. He's also very organized and his lectures are awesome. It's a lot of work but definitely worth it. Loved him. 10/10.
LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. He is absolutely amazing. He does make you work for your grade and give you quite a bit of homework (all quizzes are online, at least 3 projects). He does a lot of class activities to help study for tests and puts everything online after each lecture. Great sense of humor, VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE, super helpful in everyway he can be
I wish I could have chosen more tags to describe Professor Colby. First off, he is very well respected in the field. He used to teach high school, which I feel is what makes him as caring as he is. He's actively involved in politics, so I felt as though I was learning from his experiences instead of the book. Lectures are interesting and enjoyable.
Colby is awesome - he is a professor from real-world politics. He is passionate and knowledgeable about his subject, which translates to easily relate-able and inspiring lectures. Be sure to come to class, read the chapters before-hand, and ask lots of questions, and you'll get that A. It wont be to entirely easy, but it will be memorable.
alot of work
While Colby's course was text-heavy, he provides additional powerpoints, flashcards, reviews, etc. He literally gives you all the tools to pass the class; you just have to read the text to make it all tie together. He's hilarious and he makes the class interesting and inspiring. If you're willing to read the text, I cannot recommend him enough.
Professor Colby was absolutely incredible, and it's obvious he loves teaching! He's actively involved in our government at the state and federal level, so he brings a lot of personal experience to the table when it comes to politics. You would have to try really hard to fail. He uses class time to review for tests and creates flashcards on Quizlet.
I took the 8 week online course and Mr Colby class was very hard. Get ready to put in a lot of work. The assignments required a lot of time along with each exam. He is a very tough grader.
THE 8 WEEK CLASS WAS VERY INTENSE. MR. COLBY WAS VERY RESPONSIVE AND LOVES HIS JOB BUT IT IS NOT AN EASY CLASS. IN 8 WEEKS WE WERE ASSIGNED 3 CRITICAL DISCUSSION BOARDS, 15 INQUIZITIVE , 3 EXAMS 70question, 1 FINAL 90 Questions, 1 900 WORD PAGE ESSAY. YOU DO HAVE TO PUT IN THE WORK TO PASS BUT HE IS A TOUGH GRADER.
Colby is a great professor; I enjoyed his class. He's got a great sense of humor and makes his lectures interesting. His goal with grades is that nothing sinks you, so if you bomb a test you can still do well as long as you do well on everything else. That being said, there is a lot of work to be done outside of class, including 2 major projects.
Great professor just the greatest, lectures are entertaining, lots of hw but makes you realize whats happening in the US
Amazing professor, one of the few that genuinely teach you something so you can do better out in the real world. It's not a blowoff class but the assignments that are given are for your own betterment in the form of knowledge. The lectures being entertaining are just icing on the cake, would strongly recommend. 10/10
Talk about a neat guy! Prof Colby definitely surprised me. I was dreading this class, as I thought I knew all I ever wanted or needed to know about GOVT, but I was totally wrong! He sparked such an interest, that I'm actually looking to work in the political field! He's hilarious, fair, understanding, & loves his job. He truly WANTS you to succeed.
Great professor while there is a lot of homework and what he calls quizzes which are just the home work. He seems very passionate about what he is teaching. He was very animated during his video lectures. He lets you use the book during the test in his online class which was a big help.
Fantastic professor! He has a lot of assignments but makes the class exciting to come to.
It you aren't taking Prof Colby, you are wrong. He does more than just teaching the curriculum. His operational experience and knowledge makes this class a must. His feedback is quick, and he is understanding. He truly cares about every student's growth. Plus, he is hilarious. There will be work with every class you take, but this work is worth it
Professor Colby is a good professor! He gives extra credit, has reviews before test(which are found on quizlet) there are many things that contribute to your grade but they're not tough stuff. He does PowerPoints , and the lectures are a little long. I would definitely take him again!
Prof. Colby is amazing. I took him for a minimester and it was super easy. It is self-paced so it's all based on your schedule. He has powerpoints and quizlets. He also has a remind 101 that made communication easy and fast. The quizes (15 of them) you can take until you get a 100. He has us do 3 chapter summaries that are an easy 100.
The best teacher I had so far! Very helpful and care so much about his students. Highly recommend! Easy A.
good guy that is interactive. he is lecture heavy but most of the stuff is in the textbook so it is ok to daze off every once in a while
He is one of the best professors i have ever had! He is very lecture heavy but his lectures are actually entertaining and keep you engaged. You can tell he really cares about his students doing well as he puts up many resources for us, and even has his own quizlets over the chapters for his tests! He's really understanding and great!
He was involved
A simple class with limited amounts of work so if you screw up on one assignment it will majorly affect your grade. Overall cares about his students but makes you work for your grade
Lectures are very interesting. By far the best professor I have had. I took him for Govt 2305 & 2306, wish he taught another class I need so I could take him again. I always looked forward to going to his class. 2 more years and I will recommend my daughter take him for these classes as well. Definitely an "A" professor. Need help? ASK!
I took him online, he's cool. Like, I've never met the dude & even through emails you can tell he cares about you. Easy class, easy grades, he uses some sorta program and the quizzes you can do until you get 100. The final and exams are tedious but not hard - Quizlet is your friend. One paper about a current issue, a couple of discussions. Take him
The tests were challenging but don't contain trick questions, and it is easy to determine your own grade in the class. If you care about your grade then it isn't hard to get an A, because of the clear grading criteria. This teacher is awesome! Consider yourself lucky if you get his class.
Professor Colby is an awesome instructor, classrooms are very engaging and promote an environment of expression and academic discovery. Respectful, kind, very personable and always willing to help when and however he can. Taking him again for Texas GOVT. Best Professor for government at LSC
Professor Colby is a great teacher! He is funny, likes it when students are involved in the class and could get laid back at times.
There is a good amount of work in the online course but it is a college class and you are supposed to have college-level knowledge when finishing a class. Also, complaining about webcam for tests is like complaining you cant cheat. Man up and learn it.
What to expect in 3 week mini Chapter Quizzes for each chapter - you can work on until you get 100 3 Unit exams (3 chapters each) - you can use your own notes Watch 5 TED talks on political issues and respond Final exam - you can use your own notes Gives digital flash cards, video lectures, and other resources.
3 Week Mini Course. Work at your own pace. Allows handwritten notes on all tests. Easily accessible if you have any questions or concerns. Watch the video lectures as he tells you exactly what you need to know & also provides quizlets you can also use. Highly recommend Professor Colby! If you pay attention, you will achieve an A!!
Easy class, super funny, really helpful :)
Professor Colby is a great professor. He is very engaging and relates well to the class. When he talks about government, it all makes sense. He has tons of assignments: online video/responses, online Inquisitive homework, multiple papers, a project, current events portfolio plus exams. Yikes. Straightforward, but lots to do.
Good teacher but literally has the WORST DROPBOX EVER!
Prof Colby gives engaging lectures and plenty of online study tools. He wants to see his students succeed. He genuinely cares about his students.
In order to do well on his tests, you have to memorize nearly 200 things and it gets overwhelming.
A lot of work given with current events, inquizitives, TED talks, and much more. He is a funny guy and actually cares about his students. He makes you work for your grade but all in all I would recommend him.
Hes a good professor but I recommend anyone seeing this to beware of his tests. There is an overwhelming amount of information to remember for these tests and especially the final exam and only a portion of the info will be in those tests. His tests are extremely hard and overwhelming.
Professor Colby is an excellent teacher. Adds humor to lectures, encourages class participation, and grades fairly. There is a larger amount of papers and projects due in his class to balance out the weight of exam scores. This is a wonderful gift for students who don't test well. Professor Colby is extremely knowledgeable in his field. A true gem!
Makes an 8 am so worth it. He is also such a good teacher, does a lot of activities and you will learn more than you think. You won't fall asleep in his class at all
Hands down the best Professor I've had so far. He made what I assumed would be a boring class entertaining. There are a lot of assignments but if you stay on top of them they're fairly easy. He is very helpful and quick to get back to you. Excellent and just all around likeable.
Professor Colby is my favorite professor! He really cares about his students and youll look forward to going to class. Not only are his lectures fun and surprisingly enjoyable, but they are relatable and very informative. While there is a lot of homework (12 Current events, 1 project, 1 paper), his class is worth it. Took Govt 2305 and 2306
One of my favorite professors! Really cares about the success of his students. Read the chapters, show up to class, do your homework, and you will be fine.
I took him for a three minimester in December. He is a very good professor. He grades quickly and replies to email fast. This is not an easy class you do have to work for your grade. Be on top of stuff and you will be alright.
Prof. Colby is my favorite professor that I have had at Lone Star. He is very dedicated to helping his students succeed. He provides many extra credit opportunities and a tons of studying resources for us to use. He also uses interactive activities to keep us engaged. Overall, Prof. Colby is a fantastic professor and you should definitely take him!
I chose this prof for both US and Tx Govt, Cares about students, wants to see them succeed, very engaging, you will learn a lot and a good grade is attainable though you will have to work for it, offers supplemental material to reinforce in class learning (video lectures, quizlet, etc)
You get to show what you are learning in a lot of different ways and not just all tests. Online chapter quizzes you can take until you get 100. Lots of resources, Quizlet flashcards, video lectures, and more. Embraces dad jokes and humor in lectures. Will help you find tools you need to succeed but you have to ask.
Professor Colby was an amazing professor!! Full of life and charismatic. He never failed to make the class interesting and you could tell he absolutely loved teaching his kids. My favorite professor so far!!
He's a really good professor and seems to really care about his students and genuinely seems like he cares about what he teaches and does. He also has experience on what he teaches and knows a lot about the subject.
He is amazing, kind, and extremely understanding.
He is awesome! He provides u w quizlets, and inquizitives for every ch. U take his quizzes online until you get a 100% which helps you to study. All around nice guy who genuinely cares about his students! Although he is nice he doesnt hand you your grade, you have to do your part too. But, he makes sure that you know the material!
If you are looking for a GOVT 2305 or 2306 you are in the right place! He is very understanding and caring, he gives students a lot of resources to give us extra help. But make sure you do your part as well.
Have to study ahead of time not last minute if you want an A. Dont necessarily need to read textbook but need to buy it for inquizitive. Great lectures, star thoughts or things he points out are things needed to remember for the test and will show up again. Mainly study quizlets, star thoughts, & inquizitive for test get an A every time.
Took in 6 weks. his class def makes you work for your grade - but if you stay organized and do everything you're told, you'll be ok. The biggest problem is since he covers the material in multiple different ways (he even makes quizlets and flashcards for you), there is often conflicting info. Don't be afraid to email to clarify! Recommend for sure.
This guy is fabulous! Easy A+ as an online course in the summer. He cares about his students and responded quickly to all my emails. I took out a highlighter whenever he said "star thought" in the lectures and that was pretty much what the tests were (along with the quizlets). Also, his lectures are pretty unbiased (refreshing!). I'd recommend him!
Prof. Colby is one of the best professors out there. I have taken him for govt 2305 and govt 2306 and aiming at taking a third class! he really cares about his students and is very funny! his lectures aren't annoying and dreadful, their fun and keep you interested. would 100% recommend him to anyone!
Prof. Colby is an amazing person, super funny, caring, lets you know when ur doing good BUT he doesn't tell you when things are due except the day before or even after it was due. The weekly hw is super easy but doesn't relate to the tests, I failed every one even with my notes. This class takes A LOT of effort! Do not take if ur a busy person!
I took this course to fulfill a prerequisite for upcoming nursing programs. I am so glad I took this course! Professor Colby went above and beyond to be clear about class expectations, resources available and doesn't bog you down with work or material that doesn't help you learn or center your focus. Don't miss out on this class!
BEST GOVERNMENT PROFESSOR EVER!!! Stop looking at other professors and take Professor Colby! He provides different resources to help us understand the concepts. Everything was so clear and he takes the time to engage and communicate!
I really enjoyed Professor Colby's class! I took him for a 3 week online class (Mini-Mester). He had everything lined out for us with very clear grading criteria! You have to do you part though. He is there if you need help! This Professor actually cares about his students success!
I took professor Colby for both govt 2305 & 2306 and I cannot stress enough how good of a professor he is. He truly knows what he is talking about and is so understanding and passionate about what he is doing. He also gives tons of ex credit and resources to help you get an A so if you put in effort to learn theres no reason you should fail
The structure of this class is not for everyone, it takes discipline to do the readings and study for the exams (especially for mini-mesters). Prof. Colby makes the course very easy to follow along and learn the material efficiently. For a government class definitely recommend taking this course and professor
Great professor! Make sure to attend lectures and takes notes, he gives hints at what's going to be on tests (also read ch. outlines). He gives a TON of chances for extra credit. He's passionate about his job and that's always the best to learn from. I'm not a huge fan of Govt, but I learned a lot in his class. He's also personable and very kind.
Prof Colby was awesome! HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKIING ALL EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES.
I read the rate my professor comments before selecting this class, and all the comments seemed really good. I am aware of the work you have to put in, and Im doing it. He tends to not put everything on the PowerPoint. The first test that everyone took was so bad he had to provide 23 extra credit points to help us out. I do not recommend him.
Professor Colby is a great professor, but be prepared to read. You have to actually read the textbook in order to do well on the exams. They are on lockdown browsers so you can't use your notes. He does provide A LOT of extra credit opportunities, so take advantage of those!
TAKE PROFESSOR COLBY!!!!!!! He is the best professor I have ever had, he makes government fun even if you don't like it. He gives good lectures and wants you to succeed in his course. He relates to all of his students and gives good feedback on anything. Very organized professor, and well respected. I ended his 3-week online class with a B.
Take this class if you really want to learn about politics. Yes, you will need to study hard for the exams in order to get an "A," but all of the necessary materials are provided by the professor. Professor Colby is the most caring professor I have ever had so far, and he will help you succeed in his class.
he is a very fair professor. i took his class during a 4 week online class during summer and made a B and that was with me working a full time job with over time hours and another class on top of that. There are a lot of inquisitives, 1 paper, 3 tests that are 45% of your grade and the final that is 20%. he does give extra credit so that is a plus.
Professor has a unreasonable grading system, you can turn in a B+ worthy assignment and still receive a D, be vary wary taking this professor
Professor outlined expectations on the syllabus so the class was pretty straightforward. However, he takes a long time to respond. He is willing to work with you if you have concerns tho. Tests sometimes had content that was not included in slides or quizzes. I'd recommend taking him in person for convenience. uses webcam for exams.
Professor Colby was a great teacher! He laid out exactly how the class was and showed us access to many on campus and online resources. There was only one major paper and you could get extra credit on it by using campus resources. Overall great teacher all my extra credit bumped my B to an A so it is worth going to events and extra lectures.
He takes forever to grade things, material he gives for exams is not helpful at all and he does extra credit but the only way to get it is to show up on campus. This is an online course for a reason. Overall, I would not take him again. He seems like a good professor, just needs better material for studying, and needs to grade assignments on time.
Really nice and respectful professor, the only downfall about the class is that the exams weigh heavy on the grade average (THEY ARE W CAMERA) also a lot of the course material didn't prepare me or seen helpful for the exams The homework is very easy, and he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities in-person, on campus Grades very late
I honestly think this class could've been great. Lecture videos were very helpful study tools. The issues were that 99% of the videos couldn't be accessed, never responded to my emails, and everything was graded late. I'm a super hard worker and hate getting anything > an A+ and even I struggled with this class. Alot of extra credit-but don't take!
He engages with the class in open discussion. You get out what you put into it. He offers ALOT of extra credit, making it feasible even if you do poorly on tests (which I did) which was available virtually. I personally know many students who take him multiple times. He is by far one of the most caring professors I've met and has open hours.
The professor is somewhat hard to get ahold of but answers eventually. Tests are very, there is 10 homework assignments that are on Inquizitive which is terrible. There is one essay which was not too bad and a few discussion posts. He grades pretty hard but the class is not impossible if you try hard, I think this class would be easier in person.
He is the best professor I've had yet. He works very hard to ensure his students success. He responds quickly to emails and his study guides match what's on the test. He makes learning fun with all of his jokes and ways of explaining things. Take this class if you want a fun learning experience because he will definitely provide it!
This professor was outstanding. His desire is that you learn the material, and he will do anything to help you in doing that. His lectures are very interesting ,very approachable and understanding. There is no hidden agenda. He has an amazing way of connecting students as they support other organizations within the school . fantastic professor.
Amazing Professor liked by all students . Very clear on his expectations, very reasonable, and helpful. Class is super interesting and he gives you every opportunity to do well. I am taking his Federal Government class in the fall and looking forward to it.
Prof. Colby is one of my favs!! His lectures are superb and he tells you exactly what you need to know for the exams. He is also super funny! I always looked forward to his class bc of the environment he creates within his classroom. He makes govenment fun and easy! He gives A TON of extra credit. I HIGHLY recommend Prof. Colby!
All exams (3 + final) test your knowledge on each unit's material, thorough reading and studying is needed to succeed in this course. Additionally, Dr. Colby is very caring and understanding, offering many extra credit opportunities during the semester. In sum, one of the most enjoyable courses I've taken and learned thoroughly from -- it was fun!
Best professor ever. Funny, caring, just all around awesome. I hated politics, now I'm doing pretty good with the subject. Professor Colby helped me see government in a different way. I was dreading it. Turns out, it was the best class I've ever taken. Thanks professor Colby!
He was nice and understanding Tests were hard but got better, when you really bust your butt to get the grade u want. Don't underestimate yourself. But overall he is great. He has extra credit too.
My experience has been slightly infuriating. Some of the questions listed on the unit exams are not outlined in the textbook/the assigned chapters. He often switches assignment due dates with no warning 1-3 days beforehand. Lastly, a majority of the extra credit opportunities are in-person with the only online ones available being Zoom calls.
I have never had so many issues with a class in my whole educational life. Changes dates randomly. No follow the syllabus. The exams are long. He does not give you reminders on the assignments. It is difficult to contact with him. Honestly, I think that this class can be way better in person. Not good for organized students.
He is overall very good and I would take the class again. He gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit and is very understanding if you miss a due date, up to a certain point. He is very good at communication.
Prof Colby is pretty great! His teaching is engaging, and his lectures are super helpful. There are several short assignments, but they were an easy A. The tests were difficult but not impossible, and he gives a ton of extra credit. He was not great about responding to emails, but was always willing to answer questions in class!
He's pretty good
Prof Colby is a great professor. He is very nice and gives tons of extra credit opportunities. He goes out of his way to make sure students succeed in his class. Lectures are fun and organized, everything he teaches is easy to understand. I suggest taking his class for your political science credit if you need one because his class is great.
Professor Colby is a good teacher who cares for his students. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities that you should take advantage of. I would recommend this class. He keeps it focused but funny, entertaining, likeable, and personable.
He's a great guy but his in-class lectures didn't match up with the homework. Grades on inquizitive & answers are hard to find in the textbook. 3 tests taken at home with webcam. Your allowed to have 1 index card for the tests & 2 for the final. He cares and loves feedback on his teaching to improve for the semester, sometimes the same semester.
Great teacher! I took him during the spring semester and I'm so glad I learned more about Government especially this year in the 2024 presidential election! Mr. Colby really does seem to care about his student and is very informative. He teaches about Government and politics without bias and genuinely has been so helpful with learning about this.
Prof. Colby makes government engaging with his entertaining lectures and generous extra credit. The tests are challenging but manageable with focused study. I'd recommend this class - unstuck AI was a big help for preparing.
I h8 ts. He was so selective when it came to responses that he made me conclude that the government could not be more boring and confusing. Instructions were vague, late grades would be a regular occurrence, and he would not own up to the already submitted assignments until he was brought up with the director. If I could rate lower, I would.
This is the worst online class I have ever taken. Professor Colby responded to none of my emails or the communication app he MAKES everyone sign up for. Half of the questions that are seen on the exams are not in any of the study guides or textbooks, WEBCAM AND LOCKDOWN. Do not take this class. It is not worth the time or money.
He is a great professor that cares about the students success. He really tries to give us as many opportunities as possible to do as good as possible. He values us putting in the work more then getting great grades. I enjoyed the class and would definitely take it again. You have to put in work, but it is definitely worth it to do. Fun class
Professor Colby is by far the best professor I've had the joy of taking a class from. Not only does he give ample study material, he also cares about his students on a personal level. His tests can be challenging but that makes you a better student and teaches you how to study effectively. He gives ample extra credit opportunities as well.
He gives ample extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. You won't find a more caring professor at Lone Star. He makes the effort to get to know his students on a personal level. The tests are a bit challenging, but if you use the study tools given you'll do just fine. If I could take another class with Colby I would 10000%
Cory Colby is one of the best professors you will ever have! He cares that students actually learn the material and don't just buy a good grade, which means you will have to put in the effort. However, he will provide everything you need to know, and presents it in a very engaging way. Highly recommended!
Colby's lectures are engaging and include active participation. You won't fall asleep listening to him lecture. Even if government isn't your thing, you will still enjoy this class if you put in the effort. For students who complain about lockdown browsers and webcams, stop cheating. Colby cares about his students. Definitely take his class!
Tests and quizzes are extremely difficult.
Prof Colby is awesome sauce. The class is not difficult but you do have to pay attention, do the work, and study for the unit exams. He does offer extra credit and great feedback. His lectures are engaging and you can tell he genuinely wants us to understand and participate. He has a great sense of humor; there was never a dull moment in his class.
This was probably one of the worst professors I've had in a while. I signed up for a in-person class but I am instead having to watch more lectures and basically teach myself at home and it feels more like an online class. Very homework heavy and really tough grader. Also never responds to emails. I went over 3 days without getting a response.
Terrible experience!! He rarely responds to emails and isn't helpful, especially about scheduling issues. Never explained how to do assignments, even when asked. Grading is slow and harsh, with zero feedback. Made us watch tons of movies for a major grade, many I had to rent. Didn't follow syllabus, test info unclear. Tests were really hard & long
Professor Colby, while nice and funny, is rather harsh. Classes contain heavy lectures, little of which is presented in the textbooks. The tests and quizzes do not match, so the required practice quizzes are of no help. Notes and instructions are incredibly vague and hard to follow. He expects you to know the material as much as he already does.
He was personally great professor, but NEVER responded to emails and took forever to grade which is jeopardizing to my grade. Syllabus does not match the due dates either
He is a very kind and great teacher. Provides lots of extra credit opportunities and lectures are interesting. Class is chill, I can multitask and work on Inquizitive during class while also listening to his lecture. He is pretty clear on pointing out things that will be important but I would say that if you don't catch it, you might miss it.
Professor Colby has a tough love type of personality but clearly cares for his students. He even came to see my musical lol! The course is difficult, (expect to work), but I enjoyed it! He is slow to grade but grades fairly. We had 4 cumulative unit exams (2/3 chapters each), 1 cumulative final, 2 case studies, and 1 semester-long group project.
