PHI is a difficult subject but he tries to explain the material in the easiest ways possible. He gives a lot of examples and relates the material to funny stories and jokes. He's pretty corny (lol). His class was fun and interesting. There are 3 exams but he only counts the 2 highest. He's a great professor, I highly recommend taking him.
He is a great professor. He makes this class so fun. I took a saturday class and didn't realize how fast it went even though it is 3 hrs. As long as you have good notes from his lectures and the extra notes he puts on the board, you will be absolutely fine. I ended up getting A-. Take him, great professor and you learn as well.
Professor Evans is super funny and always starts out the class with jokes and talking about sports. He is very easy going and actually makes Philosophy interesting. If you plan on doing well on the tests, you MUST attend class because the material he teaches tends to not be in the reading. As long as you show up to class, you should do well.
Professor Evans is great. A lot of students would complain that he made them "think too much." It's philosophy! If you don't want to "think too much" you shouldn't be in college. He makes a very difficult subject very easy to understand. You don't even have to read. Just go to class. He even brought a magician to class one day. Highly recommended
Prof. Evans is one of the best professors I've had in my entire life. Extremely helpful. Very clear about everything. Grades, assignments, lectures, etc. If you go to every class and listen closely to the lecture, you will never need to do the readings. An A is very doable in this class.
He is able to teach clearly and go over course material as best he can although I did notice at least twice he gave wrong information, although it was minor. One thing that I was annoyed with was that he never explained how he graded clearly so students were often left wondering how to get an A.
Best class ever-learned so much on real influential n impt philosophy theories- that's what he teaches. Now i know the main famous influential theories .There's one theory for each class.Muz attend all classes to ace the 3 exams(arguments on the theories) in which the lowest score is dropped. No memorizing like what my other friends' classes! Woot!
Great teacher really enjoys the subject and has useful information
Professor Evans is the best! One of my absolute favorite professors. I'm staying in contact with him to see if he's doing any guest lectures. His lectures are super interesting and engaging. Not only is he a genius but he's super nice and helps you understand complicated concepts. His exams are hard but his lectures are worth it.
A great teacher that encourages us to do analytic reasoning. his class is interesting and inspiring. take this class if you are really interested in philosophy! RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!
The best professor I ever had. Highest quality in clarity of lectures. His lectures are very interesting and attractive to entire class room. He is also a good grader. Highly recommend for all students. You will satisfied when you take this class.
The best Professor in Baruch College! You will be very lucky if you get him. He is amazing! Easy grader and very clear. I took him during the winter and i actually had fun going to class. PHI is my least favorite class and he managed to make it interesting to me. Class was full although he doesn't take attendance, it says a lot.
VERY FAIR. COOL DUDE. HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT JAPANESE SWORDS AND BASEBALL AND CHESS. CHANCE TO BRING YOUR GRADE UP WITH EXTRA CREDIT PAPER/PRESENTATION.
He is a Great guy! Makes his lectures very interesting, clear and easy to understand. Talks a lot about baseball, chess, poker, movies and TV shows. Easy grader but you have to be clear about what you're writing. Take him, you will have a good time.
Not an easy grader. only 2 people in the whole class got an A! this was out of 40
plenty of bang for the buck. need to take notes in class - and don't cheat! because he's got cameras everywhere and people who will spy for him...the guy doesn't sleep...or will do so with his eyes open.. now and then he will call out in an empty room "i know you're listening" to scare the hell out of a secret organization.. :P
This class was hard but totally worth it because Evans is awesome! Great lectures. I miss his class already.
Very cool professor. His lectures are interesting and the concepts are crystal clear.
His class is great...you learn so much!!
Excellent professor!!
MIND. BLOWN. Best professor EVER. Exams ARE HARD. His lectures are freaking awesome though. Wish he taught more classes. Hardest class you'll ever take, but the most interesting class you'll ever take. TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO BE SMART
Best professor in Baruch College
He is a BOSS. Taking this class was the wisest decision I've ever made. You'll learn a lot from a very intelligent and extremely funny guy. I always looked forward to going to class, and was never let down. The class is not easy but he is extremely eloquent and communicates the material effectively. One of my favorite professors of all time.
Take good notes. There is no required textbook. 50% midterm 50% final. Final is 13questions, choose 3 only. Very fair and easy A. Real funny guy too and really smart!
Prof. Evans delivers his lectures with clarity and finesse with an unusual ability to keep the interest of his students for the duration of class. He conveys dense philosophy in digestible speeches. A must take at Baruch for philosophy and non philo students as well!
such a great person and an interesting person, very knowledgeable and a good speaker. the class was really fun and he made the subject really interesting. i hated that the exams are a lot of writing, but this is the nature of the subject. grade is based on midterm and final and an optional extra credit.
Three hints for getting A in this class: #1 Do not miss classes; #2 Audio-record the lectures; #3 Hint 1 + hint 3 and you don't have to do the readings. Great class! Extremely smart and clever professor! Great insights into the constitutional law!
Great professor, best in baruch hands down. Must take.
This teacher is pompous and unprofessional. He still hasn't uploaded my grade yet and it has been 3 weeks since i've graduated! He talks about himself all the time, didn't learn much about actual ethics.
I don't like how this professor grades exams. I can tell that my midterm was graded with no care or insight. But he was kind enough to do a review. Also, he takes his time with responding to emails. He's very intelligent, though. And the class was pretty interesting. It's difficult to understand him when he talks too fast, which he often does.
Besides being easy on the eyes Explains everything well, super clear Only 2 exams (midterm & final) & He is very corny awkward funny I would take this class again if possible
The BEST professor in Baruch! Very intelligent. I've learned a lot from this class! A lot of people think he's corny but I think he's super funny! He makes the class very interesting & easy to understand. Just take notes, listen in class and you'll do well. Exams are very straightforward, no surprises. I wish more professors were more like him!
Funny professor. Explains the material very well. However he tends to be late with the grading and posting the grades, it took him more than 3 wks to post the final grades. Take him and u will not be bored for sure!
Very funny guy. We read just one book (Plato's Republic), which you don't even have to buy because there are free versions online. He rarely writes on the board, so when he does, you better copy. Midterm was easy and Final was even easier. I would say an A. BTW I took him on a Saturday and he made it bearable and let us out early every class.
Hands down the best+most effective professor I've ever had. He really cares about his students and genuinely wants you to learn the material and do well in his class. He is extremely hilarious and a awesome teacher, chill with the best personality+very quick and extremely smart. Lectures are engaging and fun.u learn alot and also wanna married him!
He is a very rare TYPE and you would be lucky to get someone like him as a professor especially in not IVY college. Not only he made a boring class interesting but he also teach you essential survival skills to be successful later in life. First time ever I was looking forward to his class and it's not bc he looks like Brad Pitt. LOVE HIM-best ever
Jewish gets it! There's nothing like him and you will remember him forever. Everyone loves him no matter how negative they are. He has the character above all: charismatic, attractive, brilliant, high EQ, great personalities, open minded, flexible, exciting, funny, truthful, respectful, not biased and most importantly effective teaching strategies
I never liked class until I got him as a professor. Now I am obsessed with him. His class is like comedy show except you learn more than just his class. He teaches you about how things works+a successful life. He reads a lot and is extremely knowledgeable at a relatively young age. He has all the traits that a intelligent wise professor must have.
Super chill and nice. Most importantly hilarious. He travels every weekend to other countries & talks about his dog and cat a lot-funny stories. He should be comedian haha take his class and you will enjoy it. Only midterm and final. He will work with you if you have any emergency. Can't ask for any better professor. But ladies sorry he is married
Without a doubt the best professor I have ever had. He's absolutely hilarious, but yes, his jokes are corny and he knows it. He's incredibly smart and encourages you to ask him questions. There's a midterm and a final, but it's your responsibility to read the cases and ask questions in order get a good grade. He needs to teach more classes!
By far the best impressive professor in highest standards in my life. This charismatic guy presents him as a highly intelligent lawyer graduate from Yale. He has very strong communication skills. He can efficiently simplify difficult concepts in funny delivery . He knows the art of dealing with stupid students in class. I do admire his patience;)
Good professor with a good heart. He has no table at his apt. Married a Japanese? He loves animals. Gaving his cute dog human food is the reason why no tables??? Lol he's sure a lot of fun and laid back. Take his class!!!
He loves to talk about his life which interferes with your learning. He makes it harder for you to understand by using the Socratic method. He says he is there for you to help u, but it is almost impossible to reach him. Don't make conversations with him that are not class related, and you will be able to learn something. Record the lectures.
Easily best professor by gold standard without a doubt. Save u years by going to his class by learning a lot of skills beside philosophy. He is a master of getting to the point. Unlike traditional professor, He is very likable and has good people skills. u can ask him anything & he is very helpful. What a good surprise and a gem in Baruch. LOVE him
A great professor with great personality. He has a very clear quick mind and I really like his debate and teaching style: ask a lot of questions even though it makes me feel stupid most of the time. But he is definitely worth every second of your time. He also help out with personal career questions. you can ask him anything. Highly recommended:)
Great professor. You must do the readings of Supreme Court opinions & cases. Explains very clearly & with deep insight into the philosophy of the material. 2 tests. An A on the final can replace the midterm grade with an A. Show him you know the material in the tests. Make sure you understand the cases & the philosophy behind them. Take him!!!
YOU MUST TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN! i had him on saturdays for 3 hours, i thought it was going to be terrible since it is a on saturday and b its 3 hours long. However his class was very funny and the 3 hour lecture felt like 1 hour. His tests are fair and so is his final. If you do your work you will get an easy A!!!!
He's a truly amazing professor! Did not want to take philosophy for awhile so I was surprised finding myself looking towards his class every week. The lectures are interesting and engaging; he is open to any discussions. Very manageable amount of work plus he is very clear on grading. One of the best professors at Baruch.
Towering intellect!! Just a great professor, read the material and no problem,a lot of reading, whole books actually,no time to read do not take this class!!
An absolute genius. This man is an inspiration. The course was fairly simple and his tests are easy if you study the material. if you have the option to have this man as your professor, don't pass it up.
love his exams' questions, lol
Professor Evans is EXTREMELY intelligent and bright, and I definitely learned a lot from him. He is there for his students and he's very approachable. I loved his jokes and his teaching style, his lectures are very interesting. As long as you read the book and make an effort to understand it, passing with a good grade shouldn't be an issue.
Amazing professor! Read assigned works, just to set background for the material. Lectures will make you pass and are actually fun (have snacks ready). To develop understanding of concepts, debate w/ your classmates between the classes. Cory EvansSundeep Skreekumar (inside class joke, both are good professors though). 2 midterms & cumulative final.
Great professor, doesn't answer emails (at least not my emails haha), great lecturer, funny, exams are not hard.
Absolutely incredible professor!! Really enjoyed every lecture and it was a 3 hour Saturday class. He's a bit clumsy with grading but he realizes it. If you feel that you got a low grade just go talk to him. He'll admit it if he made a mistake. Otherwise I found the class pretty easy. You can really learn a lot from him.
I've taken other philosophy courses before, this professor was by far the hardest grader. If you just care about the lecture, then this might me the professor for you. If you care about your gpa, then you might be better of with another professor.
So far, he's my favorite professor of all time. He really made my think deep and hard and in ways that I never thought before. My mind felt this sort of freedom that I've never felt before in any class. I would definitely take him again! his class was a life changer for me
I believe this was the first time he taught Greek Philosophy. There really wasnt any material I can say I learned from this class. He is SUPER nice, very funny, but I didnt learn a thing - he tends to stray from the subject a lot and doesnt exactly focus on the person/s we are talking about. And there are only 2 grades - midterm and final.
Great guy overall yet his style of teaching is a tad bit frustrating to those who show up to class just to receive a good grade. Two exams make up your grade. Might seem rough but it isn't that bad. It's beyond obvious what will and won't be on the exam. Only very few things we actually spent time on 2-3 weeks per those were on the exam. kinda cute
The grade in 3020 is solely based on the midterm and final. That said, you might expect much more lecture time on actual syllabus material than is delivered. Nonetheless, Professor Evans is extremely knowledgable in just about everything - you won't regret taking his class.
Great person, not as good of a professor. There's only a midterm & final (no HW, quizzes, attendance hardly matters, no actual syllabus). He lectures the whole semester without any structure so it is super hard to follow and comprehensively learn the material.
The entire semester was based off of one book. There was no homework, no assignments, no way to get more points towards your grade besides the midterm and final. He leaves absolutely no feedback on your midterm, so you have no way of knowing how to improve for the final. Only take him if you want an easy class, but a bad grade.
Do yourself a favor and take this class. Brilliant man, amazing lectures.
Professor Evans is one of the best teachers I've come across, he listens & challenges you to think on your feet. Participation matters a lot & so does all the reading. You'll have to "THINK" outside the box & use critical thinking. His class format is so unconventional that it's not for students who are used to being boxed or want structure. 1M/ 1F
this class will challenge you because the professor will challenge you. he has a wealth of knowledge and makes you want to ask more questions, read more and feed your own curiosity. take his class if you want to take a course that might actually change your thinking and push past your own limitations. not your typical structure refreshing
Does lots of talking but makes it very interesting. Does attendance by cold calling so not totally mandatory but missing a class makes you miss out on a lot of info. Class is a midterm and final but midterm is optional. Follows a law class in how it is taught
Professor Evans is very knowledgeable in his field of expertise. He does tend to drag off topic many times but provides insightful information useful to oneself later on in life. There is one final, one midterm that you dont really need to worry about. If you skip class you miss ALOT of information.
I have mixed feelings. I liked the class, but there was no sense of direction. Things went wherever led us. The exam was faithful to the book and its themes at least. Overall the class was interesting. I learned a lot about philosophy not through the teaching of philosophy but the arguments between the students vs the professor. Many laughs. 5/7.
I really enjoyed his class, he makes lots of jokes. Easy an A class if you come to lecture and listen to his lecture, only once a week. 2 exams midterm and final both essay questions. No homework.
Prof Evans is hands down amazing. He's the best professor I've had in a long time. He's funny, clearly quite the intellect, and "an impartial vessel only there to discuss philosophical ideas to you" (or summat like that, you'll understand). He only gives 2 essay tests, he's lectures are always interesting and you'll get a lot of life lessons.
The only philosophy class i took was with this man and if you want to be introduced to philosophy this professor is a genius and will make it super engaging. I highly recommend.
Cory Evans is a professor, who constant keeps you thinking and contemplating. He is very knowledgable and uses clear references about PHI and daily life. I hope you love talking because he challenges you through multiple outlet points from Kant, Aristotle and Mills. Easy 2 wrinting response exams.
This is the best professor I've had so far, not only is the way he teaches very interesting, but it is also very entertaining. As long as you listen and take decent notes, you be able to get a good grade. If you have any questions ask him, he loves answering questions and he will speak with you until you understand.
Young, inexperienced, full of himself, disorganized, low grades students because he is the only smart breathing thing on earth. Talks about everything but the class itself. Does not prepare you for the tests. Save your money, time, and GPA. DONT TAKE HIM. Worst experience ever. Very snob. A complete show off. No real teaching happens.
Professor Evans is a very good mentor and explains everything clearly, He encourages participation and is respectful of all students. He made a course that could have been very difficult into a fun and most engaging course.
Cory Evans is a fantastic intellectual, lecturer, and most importantly, an excellent human being. He lectures with great speed and zeal, winding a path through the annals of history with good wit and humor to help you discover the cultivated wisdom of great minds past. Read the book, come to class, sit back, and watch a luminary perfect his craft.
This was one of very few really interesting classes I have taken at Baruch. Cory will most certainly make you love every minute spent in his class. He's very well articulated and seems to possess a great deal of knowledge, but if you do listen carefully, sometimes he simply talks nonsense. Also, no feedback on exams so you WON'T learn from mistakes
Professor Evans overall is a great professor, he's SMART & he knows it. You could probably ask him any question ever, and he'll come up with an answer for you. His brain holds a lot of knowledge. Respectable. He's a really interesting guy & an interesting lecturer. He can go off on a tangent sometimes and babble about things unrelated to the course
Cory will definitely challenge your way of thinking and can be a little intimediating but he is super nice and resourceful. this is the secong class ive taken with him first was PHI 1700. He grades by the midterm- optional and final. Most people pass with B unless you really answer the question prompt with the cases we go over in depth.
Professor Evans is incredibly intelligent and will definitely change the way you think about law. Two exams, midterm is optional and your grade can rely entirely on the final. Go to class, get involved and the class will be much easier and more enjoyable.
He is great! I did find the class quite boring because I'm simply not interested in court system and law. Midterm is an option, you can skip it. Final is a must. As long as you memorize and summarize in substantial detail the cases that we went over during the semester you'll do fine on the midterm &/or final.
Smart professor, speaks a lot during lectures. Kinda get confused sometimes. Wish he showed more videos demonstrating the cases for visual learners. Midterm was fair and optional for my class and the final was a must. Fair grader and very understanding professor. Does not write much on the board is more of a listen and take notes class
Evans is very easy whencomes to being really in class and grading- simply 2 assignments which are just essay type of responses using class discussion topics as references. H rambles sometimes and it can be a bit exhuasting after but he is actually a amazing professor. super intelligent, not very accessible i took 2 of his classes and may take again
Amazing professor. Would take again. Recommend physics and psychology prior knowledge to comprehend things more easily.
Good teacher. Can use more music and movies to explain philosophical concepts. Example: Mr. Nobody, V for Vendetta. Can discuss more current events as well to help apply the philosophical lens to more practical things.
We should read Thus Spoke Zarathustra instead. Go to ancient Persia instead of the ancient Greeks. Other than that, Ancient Greeks are cool too. Or you should let students pick the books they want to read and ask them to watch movies and apply said knowledge to movies / politics today And I agree with the other rater, more movies.
Our tests should just be about how our lives are exactly what the books say and we should give examples of whats happening in our lives and in politics.
We should visit DC, The Vatican, Union Square, Times Square, and Greece to get a better hands own experience about the city as state examples and hear philosophical stories and history of philosophy from philosophers and citizens of the state. Experiential learning.
Great professor. Chill guy. Gives interesting lectures and only 1 exam at the end of the semester. Law school style of teaching. A lot of pop culture references. Should be a comedian. Definitely would take again.
I took philosophy as a required course and had no intention of liking it, but Professor Evans is one of the greatest professors I have ever taken a class with. He is incredibly intelligent and knows how to explain otherwise uninteresting topics in understandable and interesting ways. Would definitely recommend taking Professor Evans' courses.
I don't know what else to say, other than I would take this professor for every class if I could. He gives one exam at the end of semester which, if you read the materials and come to class, is a cake walk. He's very understanding and his classes are always fun. I would give him a 6 if I could.
Professor Evans is quite literally, the most brilliant person I've ever met. His lectures are engaging and allow you to critically think, yet remain entertaining. A fair and reasonable grader with clear expectations. Take him for whatever you can.
Professor Evan's is a great guy. He knows his stuff and isn't shy in challenging positions his students take when asking questions. The whole point is to get students to think like the justices that sit on the Supreme Court, and understand their perspective. He has a great sense of humor and TA Avi is just as awesome. He also looks like Brad Pitt.
Prof. Evans is smart and his lectures contain a lot of information, but still he keeps them lively. The class grade will be based on the final exam which can be nervewracking but he explains everything in detail, just show up in his classes. This is definitely the class to take if you wish to enhance your critical thinking and learn more about law.
Professor Evans is one of the most interesting and intelligent people that you will ever meet. He is genuinely passionate about teaching and making an impact on his students. You will not regret taking any of his classes. Also, absolutely amazing sense of humor.
Professor Evans is unique in that he's incredibly insightful and also interesting. He has a great personality and his lectures are lively and easy to follow. Your final grade depends on an optional mid-term and a mandatory final. You'll fine as long as you take notes and stay engaged. Would love to take more of his classes.
One of the most intelligent professors I met in Baruch. Wise and humble. His courses are not constrained to rules - no attendance, no regular homework, yet this is not the main reason you should take his classes, what matters the most is his teaching really conveys the essence of philosophy(PHI 1500) and the charm of law (PHI 3045).
I'm a student who prefers PowerPoints compared to 3 hours of random talking. What's on his test isn't stuff you talk about in class and there's no rubric or examples. It's like taking a test blind. If you're the type of student who loves teachers who like to talk about bs you should take him. Goes off-topic all the time. How is he a teacher?
The lecture is fun. The course is not heavily based on textbook which is good for me. The exams are about why questions (your opinion about things around us). As long as your argument makes sense and you enjoy philosophy questions, this course will be an easy A.
He is brilliant and funny. I enjoyed his class. Not very responsive to emails.
If anyone has the opportunity to take professor Evans, I STRONGLY encourage it. In my three years of college, he is without question one of the most inspirational that I have taken. From his backstory and education to his passion in the classroom itself, he will bring a smile to everyone's face and I hope to take one of his classes again.
Awesome class. To be honest, if it was any other professor teaching this class it would have been a thousands times for boring. We even had a model UN debate that the end. That was fun. I wish we did more of those.
Great professor, super sweet and respectful. He is very knowledgeable and you will learn a lot from him. He is not very responsive to emails but he will accommodate you as much as he can. Your grade for the class is completely based on the final, but he is very generous when grading. He makes class very fun and makes jokes all the time.
He is super irresponsible and disorganized. The spring 2021 term ended on May 25, and he gave midterm grades on May 27. Yes, he gave midterm grades on May 27, not final, and only to some (16 out of 34) of the students, coursing a lot of confusion. He also almost never responded to students' emails. Avoid him!!!
He teaches class by random talking. Normally philosophy debates arent right or wrong questions. As long as your debates make sense, you should be ok. But this isnt the case if you are in Evans class. He doesnt give feedbacks so you dont know what he expects. If you dont want to ruin your GPA in an intro level class, go somewhere else.
Disorganized and hard to reach. Avoid!
Classes are boring. Teacher isn't helpful with questions
Professor Evan is a very open-minded professor, who respects every one and motivates all students to engage in the class. Although Philosophy lectures are usually boring but professor Evan does a great job keeping every one engaging in the class. He is a fair grader and he gives time to outside of the class and answer all questions. He is grade.
He's the sweetest. Lectures aren't boring at all; it's just a specific teaching style that doesn't work for some. No powerpoints or textbook or anything, just lots of talking, but it's a philosophy class so it's expected. Interesting topics that make you want to participate, which you should because it counts for a lot. Easy assignments, easy class
Prof. Evans is an absolutely amazing guy. He gives great lectures where he is bright and funny while still conveying the information in a clear and succinct way. The midterm and final for this class are issue spotters like is common in Law School, which is somewhat difficult. If you think you might like the law you should take this class.
How?? How can a Professor be so irresponsible?? You will not know your progress throughout the class as your grades for tests and assignments will be given to you like a month after the semester ends. He does not seem to understand the concept of the grade submission deadline. He's a nice guy and all but he's just like: Responsibilities who???
Literally been 10 days past the grade submission deadline yet no grades has been given. I can understand that as a person, professor Cory Evans is a nice guy, but he is literally the only professor I have had that just doesn't seem to grade assignments properly nor give out grades which is needed asap.
Prof. Evans shows outstanding scholarship in law and philosophy. He is passionate about the material, and his lectures are interesting. It seems that he genuinely cares that students learn and succeed. However, the lectures can go off topic sometimes, which makes notetaking challenging.
Amazing professor. It's one of the few times I really felt like I was taking a college course instead of some high school class. Professor is hilarious and the class is not hard at all. I was fully engaged the whole time. I felt like I was learning and thinking instead of memorizing nonsense and taking an exam. I took the professor multiple times.
Hey prof super fun class. you don't have to drop $70 on a textbook-easy if you pay attention. you'll learn about a ton of random interesting stuff-totally recommend!!!
hes very entertaining- his class is interesting and gets you thinking- great proffesor
Amazing Professor. He has a passion for teaching. He is very engaging and likes to crack funny jokes here and there. I would definitely recommend this professor. Don't miss your chance. (Coming from a student that isn't a big fan of lectures).
professor evans is a kind soul, hes wholesome, and alright lit up the room, with his jokes, his course is pretty easy to pass and the book he teaches is quite interesting i would recommend-
Literally the most intelligent and well spoken professor Ive had in my entire undergraduate time. The man is literally knowledgeable in EVERYTHING. Hes really nice too and cares for the benefit of his students. 2 papers, 1 presentation, and 1 simulation for this class. Btw, his jokes are really corny too, but who doesnt like corny jokes?
He truly is one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. You won't regret taking a class with him, you can tell he actually likes teaching and he tries to make it as lightweight as possible. I actually really enjoyed every lecture, it was always interesting and he is actually very funny.
He never responded to emails and even gave feedback regarding midterm and final grades. Not reliable. So annoying.
Very wholesome. Great sense of humor. Every class felt enjoyable to attend. Attendance was not mandatory. Classes felt like a fever dream. He goes in depth when it comes to analyzing case studies, but he also side tracks occasionally throughout the class, so have a open mind when attending lectures.
This professor is god sent. He is not at all nit picky on participation. He is very knowledgable and caring towards his students. He makes class accessible too if you are not able to come in person. You would need to read cases so that you can better understand the material. He is also attractive.
Prof. Evans has good lectures based on one book. However, the final grade is based on the final(if the midterm is higher than the final, he will curve up). I took long notes, followed lectures, and talked to classmates. A lot of effort was put into this intro course. I don't think it is worth it for just one test to count.
Always late to class. Doesnt give a lot of information about his grading criteria. Goes off topic a lot during class.
Good professor, but unorganized. No syllabus, so you have to ask about the grading criteria if you missed the last time he said it.
If you read the cases and take notes during the lecture you will get an A. He explains all the cases well, answers any questions you have, and exams are open notes. A bit unorganized and doesn't respond to emails but overall he's very knowledgeable and this was the least stressful class I've ever taken.
Honestly I felt like I was fooled by all of the positive reviews. The class was very disorganized because he would either cancel class or make it online 10 minutes before it started on a frequent basis. Some days we wouldn't even talk about Philosophy in our lectures. Your only grade is a 10 page paper which you receive no feedback on.
A smart guy, but disorganized. Doesn't really respond to emails, not much structure, class is formatted like law school. In the beginning, he cold-called on people but towards the end of the semester, he was more laidback. Optional midterm issuespotter. Mandatory final issuespotter format. Exam prompts are slightly intimidating if new to law.
Took Professor Evans for the third semester in a row. He tells great stories, it doesn't even feel like you're learning something but it somehow all connects. Grade was determined by a final paper, 10-20 pages, and he offered to review papers before the due date. He's disorganized but I couldn't recommend him enough, easily the best prof at Baruch.
Evans is one of my favorite professors. I highly recommend him if you are interested in law at all. I would not recommend if you want a traditional class. Very chill classroom environment. He is definitely disorganized, but it won't affect you that much as most of his lectures are case based.
One of the only few courses where I was actually interested in going to class and didn't feel bored. The professor goes on some semi-related tangents but the things he discusses are really interesting. Would definitely retake it if I could. Your grade is mostly just papers/in-class writing assignments so if you just go to class it should be fine.
I took professor Evans two semesters ago and to be honest, he ruined my academic experience. Why? Because no other professor compares to him in terms of engagement, humor, and how informative he truly is. Yes, your grade is based off of your exam, but it's a paper and all you have to do is literally "throw everything at the wall" and you'll be fine
He had some tech issues during the semester to be fair but class was unorganized and communication was still extremely lacking. He responded to only one of my emails of the entire semester & just with my midterm grade. He's super informed and knowledgeable. I learned a lot but I was super stressed out by this class and not because of the material.
Professor Evans is a bit disorganized, but his engaging lectures and focus on case studies make this a rewarding class. The exams are open-note, and unstuckstudy is a helpful study tool.
