Dr. Lafevers was my best prof this semester and is very passionate about music. He often brings instruments to class and we have interactive lessons which help learn the material (we had a little concert one time). Tests are easy if you take notes. He is really funny and makes class interesting. If you like music and cool profs choose Dr. Lafevers!
Woah! Dr. Lafevers is easily the best professor I've ever had and will probably end up being the most fun as well! 10/10 recommend if you want a fun class where you can chill and listen to fun music. An amazing way to get CD credits
Easy A, there are two group projects that are easy. Music report is easy as well you just need to get it out of the way after going to class a couple times so you know how to write the report. Doesn't post slides online so you have to go to class. Tests are exactly the review so just do review before hand and youll easily make an A
Easy A. Tests are online, you can use your notes. There is a textbook but you don't have to read it. As long as you take notes on the powerpoints, you will get an A. If you have friends in the class, you can swap days that you show up to class and share the notes. Lectures are interesting, but all you need is the info on the slides to get an A.
He is an awesome professor and really cares about what he is teaching. I highly recommend taking his class, and it is an easy A. All the tests are online and you can use your notes. Take him!
Seriously such a great guy who genuinely cares about you and what he is teaching. He makes lecture fun and allows us to voice our opinions which is super cool. Super easy A, just go to class and participate and take good notes and you'll be golden. Exams are online so you can use your notes. Super interesting class, easy class for a culture cred!
Amazing prof, very interesting and relevant content covered in his awesome lectures. Easy A, 3 exams online, and small report. Would definitely take again with this prof.
Really good guy and a really interesting class too in my opinion. I went to every class and took notes everyday, the class is very notes and lecture heavy. The tests are online and notes are allowed, use notes!!! There are 5 group summaries over the entire semester but they take around 30-45 minutes to do. All around, I would take again. :))
Not a hard class at all. Didnt show up most days and still made an A. tThe slides are the test no reason no to make an A
Class is super easy, just show up and take notes directly off the slides he used (he goes super slow) The prof makes an effort to make his lectures entertaining, and he has a passion for his work - I just didn't care for the subject
Love this man! I'd say that he is one of the best professors I've taken. His class is super chill and he'd oftentimes bring musical instruments. Although lectures are given in class but exams are online and straight from PowerPoint. There are group assignments so remember to do them before class. A perfect class for my stressful semester.
This was probably my favorite class thus far at TAMU! He is such a fun and caring guy, and I really just love his vibe and inherent love for this material, even if most of it is in various languages other than english he makes it enjoyable. His tests are open note, so they are relatively easy if you pay attention in class and get the information.
If you need an easy A, take this class. He really cares about his students and has interesting lectures about the different dances around the world. You will have to read some before class but overall this is a great class to satisfy your language/culture credit. Exams are online and straightforward, there are weekly responses over readings.
Guitar Heroes was one of the most interesting classes I have taken at Texas A&M and Professor LaFevers does a great job at sparking curiosity. The discussions are also really fun and very philosophical. Honestly, this whole class made me question my existence in a fun and weird way.
I am so glad I get to take this creative art class with him! The only you get an A is to do all prompts, do well on exams, do the reflection. Exams and reflections are very important! Sadly due to COVID-19, it got converted to online so I was so disappointed. If he teaches any language/cultural courses in the future, I am so down to take him!
Amazing prof that is very passionate about this course. His lectures were amazing and interesting sadly because of COVID-19 we weren't able to cover bachata, cumbia and reggaeton in person which was what I was really looking forward to. Anyways, do all of your assignments and take good notes and you should pass his exams with an A. Very easy A.
He is awesome and cares a lot about all of his students. His lectures were interesting and I enjoyed going. The tests are easy and as long as you go to class you will do good on them. Take him for an easy culture class.
Professor LaFevers is passionate about what he does. He makes you participate in class and has a lot of group work in class for you to do. He grades easily and fairly. All the exams are online, even though it's an on-campus class. Great class to take!
Super chill guy and super fun class. Just write down everything on the powerpoints and you're good to go. Exams are open note so everything you need is in the lectures or his campus. Really entertaining class that made me feel a little more cultured.
Amazing professor! Watch his lectures and take note of his power points since the exams are open note. I can tell that he loves what he does and he tries to make the class engaging despite not being synchronous. Few writing prompts and reflections, but nothing drastically hard. Easy A for sure!
He's a gem. Do not pass up on this class for an easy UCC credit.
Definitely one of my favorite profs. Absolutely loved his class. His lectures were actually entertaining to watch and the tests were directly from lectures. Takes almost no effort to make an A. Just watch the lectures and take notes over them and you're going to get an A.
Easiest class ever, after the first exam I stopped watching lecture videos and still got A's on everything.
Professor Lafevers was a BLAST! He really got into his lectures which made them super fun! The class had 3 tests (easy), 3 quizzes (easy), reflections and discussions (easy). This class was asynchronous so I wish I could've experienced it in person but he managed to make it interactive and enjoyable. Take this class as an EASY creative arts credit!
Dr. LaFevers is an incredibly engaging lecturer. His tests are incredibly fair. I loved this class and Dr. LaFevers! Everything is laid out clearly. He is not only easily accessible, but also, he communicates with students when anything changes. He is well organized.
He's a great guy and he's funny asf! The study guide is the tests. If you want to get your CD requirement out of the way, take this class! I took this class during the COVID period and I really wished this class was in person, that's how good this class is. You really get your money's worth as a student at Texas A&M University.
Great Professor! Would definitely take again! Enjoyed his personality and made class super interesting and fun and easy even if it was online.
His class was super fun and interactive even as an online course. He really enjoys his course and goes out of his way to make it enjoyable for students. He will also show off the many instruments he can play during class. He allows you to use notes on test, remember to be detailed some questions are very specific. As long as you do the work, easy A
Love this class! He doesn't post his lecture slides to canvas, so you have to show up or get the info from someone else, but I loved going to this class so I didn't care. He makes the class very engaging and makes it a very comfortable space to share your opinion. Tests are open note, and there is one group project, and weekly Packbacks. Take him!
Easy A. Weekly Packback's, 2 tests + Final, and a group project over a guitarist. Group project wasn't ideal to do since it's an online course and Covid prevents us from meeting up, but honestly was easier than some projects from high school. Take him. He's super funny and its fun to listen to him play the guitar.
I took this class for an arts credit and had no interest in guitars. I am so glad I chose to take it because it ended up being very fun and interesting. Professor LaFevers really cares and wants students to engage in discussion and questions about guitar culture and history. I would highly recommend this professor!
Dr. LaFevers is one in a million! His lectures are so much fun, and his positive attitude made this course very enjoyable. His three exams are open-note, and there was a group project towards the end of the semester which wasn't very time consuming. If you're looking for a fun, educative, easy-A class, this is the course and prof to take!
Used Packback for discussion, and it was easy to get full credit on. Gave us a test review outline before every exam which was very helpful. All 3 open-note exams were straightforward. Occasionally, I attended online office hours and he was always nice. You can tell he's passionate about the material he's teaching. -- Spring 2021, online format
This class is fun and easy! If you're looking for an easy elective/creative arts class, this is a great one! Dr. Lafevers is funny and passionate about what he teaches. I enjoy going to class, but I also do not feel stressed if I need to skip class. There are 3 tests, a group project, and packsack responses, so do not miss an assignment. Take him!
I took this course as a 5 week summer class, & this is my favorite class I've had at A&M! Dr. LaFevers is an awesome professor. Questions from the exams come straight from lectures, but he doesn't post his PowerPoints, so you'll have to take detailed notes. Every week there's a discussion post due. There's also a super easy group project. Take him!
Professor LaFevers is your ideal professor. He's sweet, funny, and interesting. His lectures are captivating and they'll genuinely make you laugh and smile. I wish I took the time to get involved in his class, because it really was interesting and I would've loved to get to know him better. If you need a creative arts credit, take Guitar Heroes!
This is my second time having this professor for a class, and honestly, I would not mind having him a third time. He is a great professor who tries his best to make his lectures enjoyable. You will not regret taking this professor, truly one of the best profs I have ever had.
I was so bored the beginning of classes, but it turned out to be a funny and easy class. He posts all the notes and you really just need those for the online open note tests. He assigns readings every week- I never read them and just listened to what he said about them the following class. Its an easy A I would recommend and I even hate guitar
Dr. Lafevers was so amazing! He is patient and kind. I loved how much he talked about his son you can tell he really loves being a dad and a professor. He is so enthusiastic about his lecture. The class is easy just don't wait till the last minute! Wish I could take again.
Basically a perfect professor. Super funny guy and very enjoyable and entertaining lectures. Possibly the most fun youll ever have in an easy A class. 3 open note tests and a simple group project. If you put in just the slightest amount of effort in this class youll get an A. Hes very understanding and a great guy. Definitely take him.
Prof. LaFevers was an absolute gem. Caring, funny, and his lectures were completely manageable. 3 tests(all open note), weekly pack backs and a final project. You can tell the passion he has for the guitar and his students, and that he genuinely cares about you and wants you to succeed. I would take him again if I could, the best A&M prof I've had
Professor LaFevers is the most genuine professor. His class is super easy, I was stressed with a lot of hard engineering classes with professors who were not nearly as considerate. When it came down to completing Professor LaFever's online class, it was so much fun and interesting, and you get to learn a lot about music while listening to it!
This class was not up my alley. A lot of random, unnecessary readings. Our class consisted of straight discussion - by the end of semester, about 5% of our class actually showed up. He's a cool, chill prof but the material was boring to me, personally. Not useful for my career, just needed a creative art. 3 tests, 2 group projects, weekly Packback.
Dr. LaFevers is an incredible professor. There is an audible passion in his voice when he discusses the course material, and he is able to convey it incredibly well. He mixes in satire with reality, and is always willing to talk about course material. Only grades are weekly packbacks, Three online open note tests, and a group project on a guitarist
Overall a pretty easy and interesting class if you like any type of guitar music. All tests are open notes/ lectures and are pretty easy. There is one group project that also isn't overly difficult. This is a class you will enjoy going to and is easy to do well in if you apply yourself.
I took Dr. Lafevers for Guitar Heroes this semester at TAMU. I absolutely loved this class even though I knew nothing about playing guitars or how they worked. The class is extremely straightforward and Dr. Lafevers genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed in his class. I would highly recommend this class and this prof to anyone
I am so happy I took this class. It was so refreshing getting out of CSCE classes and go to this one and just destress. If you need a creative arts credit just dont even think about it. My only regret is that I didnt get a chance to thank him for being the passionate amazing professor that he is.
Take Dr. C for an easy ICD/CD credit if you can! The class by itself is not too interesting but it is slightly engaging and really easy! Attendance is not mandatory but go if you can, he is a good lecturer and will often bring instruments to play in class! There are 3 tests and 2 group essays and the weekly Packback post! Very easy class, take him!
Professor LaFevers really loves his teaching. He is energetic and entertaining in his lectures. The work is easy, the tests are easy, all you really have to do is show up and get an A.
Really good professor if your looking to get an A. There is a group project you will have to do throughout the entire semester, but he is an easy grader so you'll do fine on everything. There are 3 (easy) tests and he allows you to use reviews and other sources to complete them. Everything is pretty easy as long as you do the assignments.
I absolutely loved Dr. LaFevers' class. I took Guitar Heroes and I enjoyed it! This professor has the best lectures and his class is never boring. I had a great time in this class, and I learned so much. The material in this class is very interesting and he likes the class to engage in a group conversation about the topics.
I LOVED this class with Dr. Lafevers. He is such a cool guy and was learning from us just as much as we were learning from him. Super easy, yet I learned a lot and highly recommend to anybody looking for a PERF and a CD credit.
Dr. Lafevers PERF 301 class was the easiest but most fun class I've taken so far at Texas A&M. There were weekly packback discussion board assignments but took 10 minutes and you can litteraly say whatever so we had fun with them. Answers to tests are in the lecture slides but lectures can be fun to go to sometimes. Took for the ICD credit
Professor LaFevers has a very easy class for a creative arts credit! One group project and three take home tests over the semester. A few other small assignments but all doable. There is a decent amount of reading but he makes class very enjoyable along with many talks about Taylor Swift and watching her music videos. Highly recommend!!
Dr. Lafevers was a great professor who made his class very do-able. I took PERF 222 or Music of the America's for my Cultural Diversity credit at TAMU. If you need to get your basics done and want a GPA boost, Dr. Lafevers is the way to go.
His lectures are extremely interesting, most of them are spent discussing music and listening to and analyzing music (as one does in a a music class). Your grade is based heavily on a recurring weekly assignment, and 3 exams and a group project. Just make sure you stay on top of the assignments and pay attention in class and you'll do fine.
Amazing professor overall. All his lectures were very entertaining and informative. There were weekly readings assigned before each lecture in addition to required weekly packback posts which were very easy to do. All exams were online and open note, very easy overall. There was a required group project near the end of the semester.
Good professor and easy class. Just hope you get a good group because you will be doing two group projects with them. 10/10 recommend.
If you need a PERF credit, take Lafevers. I went on the first day of class and never went again and got an A. We had one group project that was super easy, and some art assignments and journal entries that take maybe 20 mins out of your entire week. Super easy and he's so fun even on Zoom!
Probably one of the best professors I've ever taken. I fought so hard to get into this class because of the material and knowing how good of a professor Prof. Lafevers is. I loved his class so much & all of his lectures were so incredibly informative, not to mention how respectful and understanding he is to everything stated in class. THE best.
Lafevers is funny and will make class enjoyable. His class work was effortless. Not only is he a funny professor, but he seems to be a very nice and funny guy to be around. I 100% recommend him to anyone.
Took him for PERF301 online because I heard it was an easy A. It was not an easy A the exams were very detailed and there were 2 group projects in this asynchronous class. I made an 89.4 in this class and he refused to help me out. Made my first B in college in this class. He might be better at a different subject but not this one
Dr. LaFevers is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I took this class for an art credit and genuinely enjoyed it. Tests are a big part of your grade and they are open note. Notes come only from lectures so attendance is somewhat important. Also weekly packsack that take 15 minutes max. Had so much fun in this class and highly recommend!
Great professor. Cares about his students and will try his best to learn your name and know you. Does a great job with lectures and makes the class fun. Super light workload and all around a great class and great professor.
Easy class, cool guy. I also believe I learned something during this class as well.
Super chill class, and a pretty cool guy. Packback assignments are easy and kind of fun. Tests are open notes. Definitely reccomend
Dr. Lafevers is very passionate about what he teaches. This was a very simple class based on pack bac assignments, three exams, and two group projects. This class does not take much time out of your day to work on and I would definitely recommend it!
Dr. Lafevers is a pretty cool guy. Work consists of weekly Packbacks (kinda fun), three exams (open note), and two group projects. Straightforward and the work doesn't take too much time out of your week. Would definitely recommend!
Even though this class is fully online, there is a lot of engagement! Through discussions on Packback and group projects, you are able to converse with other students on ideas that the class went through. You learn a lot about how different cultures reflect ideas such as embodiment and is the most interesting class I've taken. I highly recommend.
If you need a creative arts credit, this is simply the easiest one out there. It takes about 30 minutes of your time every week with very easy assignments. The class is very organized and it is apparent what you need to do to get an A. Lafevers is very kind, TAKE THIS CLASS !!!
Guitar Heroes was the perfect fun elective for a difficult semester. Dr. Lafevers is hilarious, his lectures are amazing. Attendance isn't mandatory but you'll be sad if you miss one, plus the test questions are taken verbatim from the slides so it's an easy A if you go. Readings aren't mandatory, I didn't do most of them, but they're interesting.
Guitar heroes was a great class! Dr. Lafevers is very passionate about music and it shows during his lectures. His class consisted of weekly pack backs, 3 exams, and one group project. His tests are pretty easy and you can use the study guide. Attendance is not mandatory but it is beneficial to be there to take notes on lectures.
I did not care for Dr. Lafevers. The class was online and pretty easy. He grades easy and the exams were open note. However, every exam question felt like an opinion. Some of the material was just ridiculous and inapplicable. Easy A, but I felt like I was losing braincells by reading some people's Packback questions/responses.
I loved this class. I took it for a CD credit and I ended up anticipating for this class every week. He is extremely passionate about what he is teaching which makes it 10x better. Attend class & take notes and exams will be a breeze. Packback every week. Final project was over an artist of your choice which was extremely fun and easy for finals!
Packbacks are free, group assignment and project are pretty low stress, the 3 tests are basically just ctrl-F (and open note). You don't need to do the readings, just skim through the stuff and get a general idea of what it is.
301 w/ Dr. LaFevers is SO EASY! I took it for my CD + creative arts, and can't recommend this enough! 1 pack-back a week, 1 group project, 1 individual project, and 3 tests. He takes your best 10/13 packbacks, and grades very fairly for assignments! Follow the rubric and syllabus, and you'll be good to go!
Attendance wasn't mandatory but he didn't post any slides or notes so you kinda had to come to class if you wanted anything above a D. You have to attend almost every single class to get an A because you basically need to copy down every word he says and writes down on the board to use for the exam.
Best online class I've ever taken. The material was actually pretty interesting and the packbacks were a good way to keep me on track for the semester. You have plenty of opportunities to get an A in this class since grades are based on 3 exams, 10 packbacks, and 2 projects (one group and one individual).
I love Dr.Lafevers, you can tell he genuinely cares about the material and wants to teach. All exams were open note and could be taken anytime throughout the weekend it was assigned. There is also a group project and performance analysis but as long as you did the work the assignments were easy. Overall a very easy and laid back professor.
This was such a fun class. Professor Lafavers lectures are interesting and makes you want to go watch the next one. I took the summer course. We had 3 exams, discussion post weekly, and a group project. It was a fun class and higly recommend taking it.
I was excited to learn more about country music but he turned the class more political toward the end. People started to lose respect for him and stopped participating so it got awkward. Interesting class and still fun if you like country music and want an easy break in your day!
This class is great. The topics are so fun. Attendence is not mandatory, but he does not post the slides anywhere so its helpful to come to class. Exams are easy. Only "difficult" thing is the project at the end of the semester, but still not bad.
Projects are not graded lightly so make sure you do well on tests. Also unclear/missing rubric on them too. Otherwise he's a fair professor
One group project, three exams, and five reflections. Reflections were basically completion grades and just show up to class and take word for word from the powerpoints since he doesn't post them.
Such an easy and interesting class, amazing professor. Super funny and very hands-on with getting to play instruments. Really easy too! 100% would recommend.
He is very funny and nice. Lectures are pretty interesting and you get to play guitar heroes. Exams are online and open note so that's nice. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he doesn't post lectures so it's helpful for notes.
Dr Lafevers loves open discussions and is good at explaining musical terms in a way that anyone can understand. He is very respectful, kind, and funny. There is no required attendance but all the exams are based on the lectures and he does not post any notes.
I love and 100% recommend Dr. LaFevers! It's an easy A creative arts credit, assignments are only like 4 essay style questions (200 words), easy group project, and 3 open note online exams. Attendance not mandatory but you do need to show up to get the notes. The info is easy and he's really passionate about his work so the lectures are fun.
Lafevers is a great professor; he is chill and adds humor to his lectures. Grading is simple with a few online tests, short papers, and group projects. Lectures are a must-attend because he does not post the slides, but otherwise very easy core art credit.
If you take online perf 301 with lafevers, be prepared for the easiest class of your life.
Very chill prof. He grabs your attention during lecture using his humor and madman ramblings about cyborgs, aliens, etc. (In a good way). He does NOT share his slides, so attend class; write down the presented slides and the stuff he says will be important for the exams. Exams are open book, so take good notes. And yes, you get to play Guitar Hero.
A very interesting class! I took an accelerated summer course so there were a lot of lectures and notes to take in a week but it was very interesting stuff. There is a group project, I got very lucky and got good group mates but it is random. There are weekly packbacks but they were very easy. Overall I would highly recommend, Dr. LaFevers rocks!
If you want an easy class and a chill professor, take him! This was an online class but his lectures are still amazing. A syllabus quiz, weekly discussions, three tests, and a group project to finish it off. The project is more time consuming/tedious than hard. Tests were open note. Take Dr. LaFevers for a great class!
Very straightforward class. He gives you everything you need to do well on his assignments and tests. Everything for 301 was online and the course was extremely organized.
He's a really great guy, and his classes are super fun and interactive. There is a group project, but if you want a fun and easy A for cultural discourse, definitely take him. I heavily recommend the textbook so you can go back and listen to examples from lectures. Exams are open note and easy if you go to lectures. No slides, so take notes.
Super easy PERF credit if you need one! Just a Packback post + 2 responses per week, and then some group projects and performance analyses here and there. Lafevers a king fr
