Very nice and clear professor. Although his tests are very challenging, and you need to know what he says in class in order to good. His notes are very good, but his tests are based on the application of that material. Overall he is very helpful.

Dr. Antonescu is very professional and his lectures are very interesting, he has unique ways of teaching material. The midterms were very easy, the final was alright as well. Labs are time consuming since there are formal reports for each of the 5 labs but they are marked with good feedback and aren't hard. Tb was only needed for selfstudy chapter

AMAZING professor. Dr. Antonescu really knows his stuff and explains topics extremely well. His lectures are always engaging - constantly taking notes and he grabs your attention. Tests are based straight from lecture, no textbook readings whatsoever. However his tests are a little tough. I would dye to have him as a prof again!!

He is very clear in his lectures and the tests cover only the lecture content. Gives you bonus question in every test. The content is hard but he makes it fun in class. Got o class, take notes and you'll do fine. Don't leave readings 'til last minute.

The best. A lil awkward in lectures because he's quirky like that I think but he's an amazing person who's always willing to help. Also: no need for textbook. Tests straight out of lecture notes and his additional verbal comments in class! testing is obv challenging because what he teaches are complex material. Overall 910!

The midterm was fair and I felt well prepared for it. The exam was on a whole different level, I expect a large grade bump because I ended up doing better than I expected (still not great though). He also dropped hints in class, hints that he never even applied to the exam and the assigned questions were useless. The exam was just horrible!!!

Explains things beautifully. Hilarious in a quiet way. Fair and upfront with what he will test you on. Go to class, take notes, study them and you will do well.

My favourite prof of the semester. Really can dumb down concepts with great memorable analogies. Exams are fair- 50/50 MC & SA. Must know how to apply concepts beyond what is talked about in lecture.

Puts memes in his powerpoints and definitely knows his stuff. He uses the same MC on the midterms for the final. He's a fantastic prof and as long as you attend his lectures and make notes you will pass the class.

I really enjoyed his lectures, he's hilarious! The midterms were okay but i found the final really difficult in comparison. If you don't go to class you probably won't do well since he spends a lot of time explaining things and you have to take notes - other than the self study section, I didnt use the textbook (tests are based on his notes only).

He is a good professor who really knows his stuff well. He made lectures kinda fun by telling few jokes here n there. You have to go to the lectures!! Even though people found this class hard I didn't but it was because I took the time to learn the concepts inside out rather than just blindly memorize. Received my first A in cell bio!

Dr. Costin really knows how to teach the material and uses relevant and sometimes funny analogies to explain concepts. I would suggest recording his lectures because a lot of the meat of the course is verbally conveyed, with the bones mostly on the slides in form of diagrams and pictures. Get ready to jot down as he speaks. Textbook helps sometimes

Great prof. Course was hard at first, but once you understand how he does his first midterm, the pattern is essentially the same (MC, SA, Definitions, Essay Question Style). The final was difficult however, and LONG. He ended up adjusting grades and me and a couple of friends were boosted to an A+. Great and funny professor. Would take again.

I've never had Professor Antonescu for cell biology like most people, but his lectures for biochemistry are interesting, sometimes funny and lively. His midterm is also very textbook heavy, and includes some content from labs. I respect him, and he also tries to pop in free-bees for us on the midterm and final.

This proff is actually one of the best biology proffs in ryerson. You don't need the textbook (only for one self-study section we had during the break) because he explains everything you need to know during the lecture. Get ready to go to class and take lots of notes because that guarantees you an A. Or record his lectures and take notes later.

The best prof that I have had thus far, I wish that he would teach all classes. No textbook is needed, but the lectures are dense with information (looking at slides isn't enough). Tests are quite hard, you really have to work for a good grade. Start studying 2-3 weeks before a midterm/final and you're golden. Great dude, highly recommend him.

You need to either make very detailed notes in person during lectures or obtain his lecture audios or you're a goner. Make friends, all his online quizzes are identical, this will save you time and ensure easy grades.

The best prof I have ever had! His lectures are really emphatic and heavy so you will have to either take note of all the additional things he says or have someone record the lecture for you. He is a great man! BLG311 is easy with Costin as long as you put in the work and study with enough time before evaluations.

Probably my favourite prof at Ryerson. He is incredibly fair and cares about his students. No textbook needed! His lectures are very thorough and detailed and you can tell he is passionate about the subject matter. Pay attention in lecture, write down EVERYTHING he says/record lectures and you're golden! Where do I start??? Dr. Antonescu is one of the best lecturers I have ever met, no joke. Sometimes I fell asleep in his class but his voice is just so serene. His SA are pretty difficult so make sure you know your stuff. Ended up adjusting our final exam grades at the end because people didn't do too well. Nice guy, would take again.

THIS MAN IS LEGENDARY! Bio was my worst subject and it still is but he made me enjoy the subject for once. He's the most understanding and caring prof at ryerson. His lectures, slides, transcripts, examples are all top notch. He always does whatever is convenient for his students. No need for a textbook. If you see his name, just take his course.

This year has been tough on everyone and he has been so accommodating making life just a bit easier. He is so passionate about cell bio and he makes it really easy to understand the content. His video lectures are so informative that you don't even need a textbook. He provides the recording, audio as well as the transcript. THE BEST PROF eVER

4 tests that were long answer questions with approximately 3-4 questions. Pre recorded lectures with lecture time as office hours. Boosts grades occasionally. A quiz per section that had unlimited time to complete but was due the same week the section is finished. With all due respect I am in love with this man. Super approachable and good lecturer

When I tell you I'd DIE FOR THIS MAN, I'm not lying. He's the BEST professor I've had at Ryerson so far. He's so caring and understanding, especially during this time with the pandemic. He'll still make you work hard to get that A since all the questions for the test are application questions but they're fair if you study well enough.

while taking this course online, all lectures were pre recorded and could be watched at your own pace. A textbook is not require because he provides you with everything you need, just have to watch the videos. Tests were harder because instead of M/C it was more application based but everything provided prepares you well!! Recommend this prof!!

This man truly is one of the best profs at ryerson. No matter what he does, he always makes sure to put his students first. He will bend over backwords just to make all of our lives easier. Any low rating you see is most likely from students who just didnt put any time into their work. Put in the work and youll see results.

10/10 PROF!! Complaints about him come from his tests being very difficult, which is very true. My grade in his class isnt the best mainly because the tests are very difficult. However the only reason im passing this course is because he does whatever he can to make sure his students succeed, whether it be a change in the syllabus or extra help.

BEST PROF IVE EVERRR HAD. its online rn and hes so accommodating and inclusive. He even goes out of his way to manually edit his transcripts to make sure everyone can access them. Dr. Antonescu is the best prof I've ever had. Hes given several mark boosts and changed weightings of tests and quizzes just to ensure that his students get the best mark they possibly can. That being said, his lectures are content heavy however he only tests on what's in his lectures, so if you study he powerpoints well its an easy A.

Gave several bonuses throughout the semester, the course consisted of 8 online MC quizzes with unlimited time and 4 short answer tests. Tests were relatively hard if done in a class setting, but with the use of notes, it was fair. They expect definitions for concepts to get full marks. He truly is an amazing prof and cares for his students.

He was SO accommodating, trying his best to get us the best possible mark. All tests were based only off his lectures which I liked because i didn't have to do any readings. Average of 4 30min lectures per week do was definitely manageable. Exams were all long answer and they expect a lot of detail. His explanations were good for the most part.

This prof needs an award. He has been the only professor at Ryerson to actually care about students grades and has been SOOO accommodating during a pandemic, which some profs don't even care. His tests are challenging because you actually have to take note of what he says in lecture videos - not just his slides

BEST PROF IN THE BIO/CHEM DEPARTMENT AT RYERSON. He actually cares about student feedback. Teaches in a way that you actually learn something! His tests are application based but fairly simple if you study his content. All the bad reviews on here are people who probably didn't even attempt to try in this class. Its easy to do well. nicest guy!

His quizzes were pretty straightforward and doable but the four tests we took were exhausting and tough. However, his recorded lectures and explanations were great and he was very organized throughout the semester, he gets to the point and teaches you what's important. He even readjusted the grading weight when he noticed we were not doing so well.

An absolutely incredible professor! Through this pandemic, he made sure all pre-recorded lectures were accessible, provided open book tests (application-based), readjusted some test grades, and changed test weightings. Pre-recorded lectures were so clear & had all the info needed, and tests/quizzes were fair as long as you understand the concepts.

Costin is the best science prof I've had so far. He knows EXACTLY what he is teaching in this course, and he explains it CRYSTAL clearly. He always tells you what you need to know and what you don't. On top of that, he's nice, genuine, fair, and funny, and is extremely helpful when you have questions. He really made me enjoy cell bio!

Honestly hands down the best professor in the Ryerson Faculty of Science. He makes the course incredibly easy to understand. He will often compare mechanisms that may be confusing to other real world scenarios. His tests are application based which really makes the information taught stick. Dr. Antonescu is the best professor that I've ever had. He recorded his lectures in multiple formats to make them as accessible as possible (video with captions, audio-only, slides, and transcript). He was very accommodating, humorous, and genuinely cared about the students. His lectures were interesting and relevant, and the testing was fair!

This man is a genius! You can really tell he loves what he is doing, and teaches it very well. He responds to emails as fast as possible. Im not going to lie the course material is heavy and challenging. You have to do the work, but if you watch his videos and understand what he's saying, you will pass. His analogies really help to understand.

He records lectures even though the university has gone fully in-person, he's a phenomenal lecturer and tells you exactly what you should and should not be focusing on when you're studying and his exams are super fair. This guy is just great. Evaluations are actually hard but they are only on things that acc matter. You do not need to memorize stupid names that you will most probably forget after a week. Only concepts also he explains everything in a way you will never forget. I have never seen any prof so smart and considerate. He is genuinely a RESPECTED man.

Such a nice and caring guy. Def go to his lectures, he tries to make things as understandable as possible & will answer all your Q's. He will basically tell you what the short answer questions on the exams will be & will explain it how he wants you to answer it. He records his lectures too. The content is what's tricky, but he tries to simplify it.

Dr. Antonescu teaches amazingly, he doesn't rush through slides, puts emphasis on important concepts and takes time to explain them as much as you need. 2 midterms, weekly quizzes, and a final. His questions are very fair and make sure you have all the key terms for short answers to get full marks. He gives mark adjustments to increase your grade.

His lectures were very interesting. The exams were fair and graded justly, too. The quizzes were a bit complex but not too bad if you had studied beforehand. He makes the content very digestible and exciting to learn. Personally, my favourite part was when he would relate the content to how illnesses work. Very enjoyable class would take again.

Best professor I had this semester. Lectures very clearly and concisely but kept them short. Loved that he also recorded the lectures so we could rewatch anytime. He would tell us what questions would be on midterms/finals. Though, quizzes/tests were heavily application based so they were quite difficult but overall it was my least stressful class

AMAZING. He is the absolute best teacher/prof I have ever had. He made me fall back in love with biology after it started to feel forced. His class is SO EASY if you pay attention (which isn't hard because he is very engaging) and take good notes. Midterms were ACTUALLY fair. Basically tells you what to write for the short answers. TBH quizzes were the hardest part of the course (not even hard).

A very understanding and accommodating professor. Extremely honest and clear about what to expect on exams and grading criteria. Allows students to have a chance at securing some points on exams by repeating questions from previous exams. Made a conventionally content heavy course like cell biology easy by summarizing the textbook. 100% recommend.

Hands down the best prof. I took this class two years ago I hated biology in my first year and wanted to change my major. Took his class and FELL SO HARD WITH CELL BIO. He makes everything easy to understand + extremely respectful and understanding. Don't get me wrong, the content wasn't easy, but I enjoyed learning it. HE IS THE GOAT!

While cell bio is a very content heavy course, Antonescu is really good at explaining concepts and breaking content down into simple, easy to understand terms. Midterms and quizzes are incredibly fair, and gives students opportunities to receive grade boosters (via optional quizzes and repeated questions on midterms and final).

It's so easy to do well in Antonescu's class! The recorded lectures are a game-changer, but he's right, going in-person does make a difference. He's able to make tough content really digestible. He's a really nice person too! Definitely go to his office hours.

Amazing prof, truly cares about his students. I honestly never had as many alternative learning resources to lectures in any other course I've taken. He provides; transcripts, videos of prerecorded or current lectures, suggests the textbook pages to refer to ,available during office hours and is quick to respond to emails.

Dr. Antonescu is the GOAT of biology professors, his lecture slides were very clear and his explanations on cell biology are amazing if you pay attention. He throws in a few jokes too which I appreciate :) We were graded on quizzes, two midterms, and a 40% final exam. The tests were very fair and all content came from the lectures, no textbooks!

No one does it like him! All the information you need is concisely written on the slides, and it helps that he explains well! The tests were all extremely fair and the course was well-paced. Quizzes were not timed and reinforced lecture material. There were application questions on exams that were easy to answer if you understood the lectures.

There are two midterms and one final exam and he gives hints on what to write in the short answer. There are also weekly online quizzes which are also pretty easy. And he explains things so well!!! I learned so much from this class and it's all because of him since the textbook was optional. Great lectures and a great professor, he's a king

The actual TMU goat! I mean he loves his job & us. Records lectures, gives previous years exams, great lecturers. The only down side I could give to this prof is that his exams are a bit long but do able. 11/10 prof, person, and mentor. You are in great hands!
