scary at first. but over all she is nice. i just hate public speaking so yah. but if you ask for help she'll help you. and ummm sometimes she's not completely clear on what she wants. but she makes the class interesting.
She is a hard teacher and wants everything just so, but if you do everything and don't give her attitude she's good.
The first time I met her, she was very intimidating, but at the end, she was very nice. I loved her class. This was practically my favorite class and I was excited to attend class every week. She makes the class interesting. Her grading scale is quite fair. There are four tests, two essays, and one group project. Class, OVERALL EASY!
At first, i was scared of her. But progressively.. i learned how amazing she was! She really wants to make you feel comfortable and understand the material. I recommend her, shes nice and very funny.
She can be very intimidating and sometimes harsh. You give 6 speeches. They are from 2-7min long. You do 2 essays. There are 2 test and they are more about her lectures and notes then the book. Pay attention to her lectures! She can be very unclear of what she wants. She will help you though. Tough class if you don't like public speaking.
First day of class 4 people dropped because she was intimidating. They missed out. She made public speaking very fun. I had her for summer school and we had 6 speeches 3 minor 3 major, 2 test (mid term & final), and one paper. She will help you all you want! Email her your paper and she will correct it all! Awesome teacher!
Extremely helpful and very fun. She taught me alot. Summer course was intense but overall it was an awesome class.
She is very intimidating at first but it's only because she's trying to get rid of people who truly don't want to be there. Other than that, she's a nice lady. Pay attention to jeopardy games. Don't be late and ALWAYS turn off your cell phone during class. She likes it when you speak loud =]and she'll love you if you join the speech team.
Courtney is awesome! She made me love speech. Her assignments can be challenging but they're tottally do-able. She is always available for help through e-mail. She is a little intimidating, but that's just a front. She truly loves what she does. Take this class!
Good class but beware! While any apt student will get by with a perfunctory effort, this can also be said of Courtney's adaptability to addressing her students' communication needs. For some, she fails in setting a comfortable atmosphere. The class is frequently enjoyable however, and for many succeeds in providing that which it aims to provide.
My all time favorite teacher at OCC. She'll seem very intimidating for the first day of class, but then you'll realize that it was to weed-out weak minded people. She's hilarious, but she pretends to be serious. You'll come to love her for her loud and subtle humerous personality.
She looks identical to Yvette Nicole Brown. She is a NO BS type of professor. She expects you in class each day and on time. She knows how to teach and is very effective. She will increase your public speaking skills the way Hooked On Phonics improves reading scores. Great professor!!
Very intimidating at first, then she's funny and pretty nice. However, she can be very cold and though she says she's available through email, she hardly ever responded to my emails when I was absent or confused. At the end of the semester, she was cold as ice to everyone and ended it with "Well, I guess I'll see you again never. Have a nice life"
I did not enjoy taking this class. She thought her rude and mean comments were hilarious, but they weren't. Her frequent put downs did not motivate anyone to achieve a better grade. You were still required to show up to class when she would only boast about her pride. Even though she was morbidly obese her insults of others never ceased.
Great professor! She is really funny and helpful. This class may be challenging for people that are not comfortable speaking in front of the class. But she makes you feel comfortable and gets the class to help you out. I would def recommend her.
She can be intimidating at first, but once you get to know her, she's very funny; though, her sense of humor tends to be very sarcastic. If you work hard in her class, she's really generous and helpful. She's impatient with slackers, though. NEVER show up late--5 points off each time! The speeches are scary, but she grades fairly & you grow a LOT!
She is a great teacher. I was so afraid of speaking in front of people, but she helped me with a warm smile. She is look cold , but she is not cold inside. Be on time for your class, study lecture notes, be ready for you speech, then you will do really well in this class. Your speech will be improved after taking this class. highly recommended
She will make fun of you any chance she gets. she thinks shes better than every one else. assigns a lot of home work. i would not recommend taking this teacher.
If you need help with your time-management skills she's the professor to take. Everything is about the schedule, she kept me busy with assignments every week of the semester. It was an easy class once I got used to the pace. She will pick on people, but its all in fun.
A super intense teacher. Doesn't put up with any bs. However, will boost your confidence 10 fold if you make it through the gauntlet. Always holds office hours, and always willing to help. Not for the faint hearted that is for sure, but my favorite teacher by far at OCC. Course consist of 5 speeches and 2 test. Speeches are easy, so are test. Study
This was a horrible teacher. She was good when it came to being funny, but was way too serious. And not organized. She lost 2 of my speeches. One of which was a major speech. I tried talking to her bout my grade when the class was over, but she would rarely contact me back, then after 6 months she completely ignored me. I WOULD NOT recommend her.
Great teacher, but hard. You have something due in her class every week. She can make some harsh comments thats just her style of teaching. She doesnt take any bs. She has 3 extra credit assignments that will help you out. and our final exam was open note!
She's not a bad professor. I enjoyed the class and actually learned a lot about public speaking. She can be a little tough on you but nothing too bad. Just do the speeches on time, be prepared, and you'll be fine. She gave me an A at the end of the semester even though I didnt deserve it whatsoever.
You are lucky to be in courtney's presence. She is an amazing coach and mentor. the relationship is based on hard work and mutual respect, if you show her you want it and give her what she asks for, you will go far. there is so much to be learned from Courtney, but she doesn't have time for slackers.
Best class ever! I thought I would hate this class, because I'm really shy. But in the end, its the one I ended up enjoying the most! You have to be in class everyday, and there is hw due every week, Honestly, if you actually listen to what she says, you'll do fine! She wont put up with slackers, but she has a hilarious sense of humor!
DONT EVER TAKE HER IF YOU LIKE GOING TO SCHOOL, WORST TEACH EVER
DON'T TAKE HER unless you want to risk being influenced by a woman COMPLETELY unfit to teach a class in EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATING! This woman has a huge chip on her shoulder. She's not intimidating, she's just plain RUDE. Unbelievable that this woman got a job teaching a class in communication. She's arrogant but unrightfully so. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Courtney is HANDS DOWN, the BEST professor at OCC. She is the funniest instructor I have ever had in my entire life. Don't take her class if you're going to complain about having work because there will be something due every week but it's definitely do-able. Highly recommended, even if you're scared of public speaking. Easy A if you do the work.
This class is a lot of work, but well worth it. If you do all the work correctly and on time you will pass this class easily. Follow instructions on how to prepare your speeches, and you will be happy with your results.
I would not recommend Ms. Anderson, she lost 2 of my speeches!!! One of which was a major speech, and the other was our very first speech. I didn't find out til later that they were not recorded and she no longer had them. When I asked about it later she asked for me to send them into her and she wouldn't give me more than a C. DONT TAKE HER!
I LOVE MS.ANDERSON!!!! She is hilarious, sassy, and sweet. She'll keep you entertained. She's super strict about attendance and assignments, but grades speeches easy. Don't mess with her, she hates slackers and whiners. 6 speeches, a midterm, and final exam. Use the book to study. You can pass the class easily, just DO the assignments.
Quite a bit of work outside of class preparing for speeches and she did seem strict at first but in the end I saw she was just trying to be fair. I still got a B in her class for trying. She was pretty funny in her own sense of humor and I enjoyed going to her class.
I don't know where people say she's hard. I got a 99% in the class and I didn't do any extra credit. All I did was turn in my homework on time and stand up and do my speeches. She is BAD at responding to emails and after saying to be on time she is late at least 20 minutes EVERY class. Kind of annoying but she can be funny and it's an easy class
Professor Anderson, really does have the potential to be a great teacher. She just doesn't put the work into it like you would hope. You walk away from her class feeling as if it wasn't among her top priorities. There is a lot of work, which include group projects, 2-3 essays, 20 minute group presentation, and about 5 mandatory museum visits.
She's big, bold, and beautiful. If you do the 4 speeches and pay attention for the midterm and final "jeopardy", you don't even need the book. She offers extra credit. She's an awesome person and a wonderful teacher.
Love her! Yes, she's loud, a little obnoxious, sometimes late, and doesn't respond well to emails.. But she's the best teacher I've had at OCC... All you need to do to get an A is do the work she assigns to the best of your ability. If you try your best she will reward you with good grades.. BONUS: You get to play Jeopardy before exams!
She is very understanding and has a great personality. She is one of the best professors I have ever had. I cant say or even think of one bad quality
Really enjoyed this teacher for readers theater oral interpretation. She does a great job at creating a relaxed environment where I can feel safe performing in front of the class. If you do the homework and try your best you will get an A... The best part is she does not make you buy a book!!!
Courtney is one of those rare professors that you're lucky to have in college. She is so patient and understanding which makes her class great. Her assignments are lengthy and require creativity but it really helped me understand interpersonal comm. because she makes sure that you apply what you learned outside the textbook and classroom.
Courtney is great. I took Public Speaking with her. I would look forward to going to class because it was fun and easy going. She was very commical and made things interesting. She is not a hard grader either. I got an A. :)
Courtney is by far the best teacher I have taken at OCC. Class is laid back and fun. If you hate public speaking take it with her. She makes it fun and non stressful.
I'm a communications major because I enjoy interacting with different personalities and LOVE writing. Prior to take speech I was so nervous. The thought of being in front of people I didn't know giving a presentation was nerve racking. Courtney was amazing by making everyone feel overly comfortable; love her and am taking her again!! Can't wait!
She's whatever rude fersure rolled her eyes during my speech should've told her to do an impromptu speech on that posted my last speech grade then took it off ran into her and ask her to fix it grades based on her emotion can be overwhelming just do work ahead of time best bet
She is very funny, nice!! Took her public speaking class.. It was not scary at all. Class was fun and learnt a lot from classmates! Should take her!! Easy A
I found this class to be extremely easy IF YOU DO THE WORK. I ended up with a 96% for the class and it was a 6 week summer class! Ms. Anderson's lecture's are entertaining and her test's are not to difficult. Plus the speech topic's are all interesting. Oh and the demo speeches were awesome to watch!
Courtney is a pleasure to be around! She has a very positive energy and really goon vibes. I would 100% recommend for everyone to take her class! Makes public speaking fun and enjoyable. It is a very fun class, you will learn a lot not just about the subject, but about yourself and the way you communicate with others which really helped me a lot!
Mrs. Anderson is so funny and really appreciate you being yourself and sharing things with a passion in your speeches. She's so full of life and love! Highly recommend her if your ready to push yourself, your boundaries and work ethics. Wish she would teach from another book though, it seemed pointless to buy it with everything considered.
Ms. Anderson is one of best professors OCC has to offer and if you have her, consider yourself very lucky. She's funny, energetic, and passionate about public speaking which makes her class great. Her assignments are lengthy and require a good amount of time to do. But if you follow all of her requirements and work very hard, it'll be a breeze.
Public speaking scared me before taking this class, but Courtney really helps you feel at ease. It actually ended up being one of my favorite classes I've ever taken. Follow the directions for the grading criteria, and you'll get good grades on your speeches!
She's kind of all over the place, so if you are looking for a by the book teacher she isn't for you. But she is a fair grader and gives great pointers on how to improve. I took this class as a Cal State requirement not because I wanted to take speech, but I ended up really enjoying the class and it is an easy A if you show up and put in the work.
Well, she repeats herself, a lot. I did not get a textbook and passed the class with a B+. Just study your notes/reviews she posts online. She's confusing at times when it comes to the speeches, so just ask her to clarify. Took her over the Summer. It was easy. She makes you feel comfortable if you're nervous. You'll be fine.
Took this class for a Cal State requirement. She won't grade hard on the speeches if you practice ahead of time. Read the book and study the notes for the 2 exams. Otherwise, apply the lecture/book into your speeches, practice, and you should have no trouble on the speeches. Took this over the summer. Grade received: A
Ms. Anderson is funny. I respect her intro of, "do the work or dont get a good grade". showing up everyday is important. as long as you are respectful, put in a decent amount of effort, and show up to learn, this class is an easy "A". Also, expect to learn something along the way!
Professor Anderson is fricking awesome. She's funny and the class itself wasn't too bad. She definitely helps out if you're not that great of a public speaker like I am. She gives out a lot of xc opportunities and attending class is a must (you get marked off points when you miss a class). Overall, easy A. Midterm was a breeze.
Unique New york new york unique you know you need unique new york! you will only understand that if you took her class. She is by far the best prof Ever!!! She actually cares about students. I would take classes with her again! Loved her WORD!!!!!
She's an amazing at public speaking, its a lot of work but its not that hard. She also gives a lot of extra credit.
She's very nice. I was scared to take this class at first, but lectures were not difficult and if you come to class every time and do all assignments and speech, you will easy pass it. I recommend her if you want to take Public Speaking class.
Overall a great professor, will not buy bs stories. Is understanding as long as you give her your time and effort in class.
Courtney Anderson is definitely a real gem! I was so nervous to take public speaking but I feel like a more confident speaker after taking her class. She also has a great sense of humor. Her class wasnt too hard but you do have to put in some effort. She also gives a lot of E.C. opportunities! I highly recommend taking her for public speaking!!
BEST TEACHER IVE HAD AT OCC. She cares about the students. Makes you feel comfortable to speak infront of the class. Hands down an awesome teacher I strongly reccomend her class.
Ms. Anderson can be a bit intimidating at times but I assure you her lectures are entertaining. She very knowledgeable and even quite funny at times. Do your 3 major speeches, show up to class, and take the midterm/final. You'll pass. Her tests are simple and although nerve racking her speeches are graded with much leniency. Try! That's it.
Friendly, mature and easy to get along with. Do the work, attend classes and be a part of everything you will be good.
Communications professor but sucks at communicating. Doesn't reply to emails no matter how important, and even in person she won't look up when you talk to her. Made me feel so inferior and made it clear that she's annoyed when asked a question. Comes to class late, and dismisses us at random times. Grading was awful, inaccurate.
She is amazing! If you're nervous about public speaking, don't be. She literally makes everyone more confident each time. There are warm up exercises before speeches (very fun). 4 major speeches, 1 midterm and 1 final. Midterms and finals are objective questions. Prepare your outline well and she's happy to help whenever you ask. Please take her!
Saying She is amazing is an under statement! If you're nervous about public speaking, don't be. She is a huge confidence booster and during intercession she only has 4 major speeches, 1 midterm and 1 final WOWWW. Midterms and finals are objective questions. She gives a jeopardy study session the day before and there the same as the tests :) <3
Quite a character she is! Very casual class environment and full of jokes. I wouldn't call her a super easy grader, but her expectations are understandable. A bit unclear when it came to due dates. Although I didn't expect as much written work as she assigned for a public speaking class, good grades given as long as you put in the effort!
Eh it was okay. Speeches are straightforward and she can be very particular. Show up, pay attention, put in the work, and you'll get a good grade. Never personally had an issue with her but she can be very rude. If you go up to her she won't even look at you, ask her a question in class, she'll shut you down. It was very strange.
Great professor! She took over my class this semester for public speaking and was super encouraging. She really wanted you to be comfortable with speaking in front of people and encouraged you to shape yourself into a better speaker. Pretty easy to pass so long as you show up on time, pay attention, and do your assignments.
What a terrible professor. She took over my class this sem. and was incredibly rude. NEVER thorough on any instructions for speeches, expected us to know everything, and was really passive agg. Gave us HER study guide to the final instead of our prof, you all can imagine our scores. NEVER responds to emails and did not input many ppls extracred in
Awesome teacher! Very engaging. I took her for public speaking and had a great experience. Show up to class, put some effort into your speeches and she will recognize it and give you a good grade. Even if you suck at public speaking but you show that you're trying, she will respect that. Quizzes/tests are comprehensive and common sense.
I took her during intersession and she made a boring class quite entertaining! I would suggest taking her class during intersession because even though you have to do one speech each week it makes the class go by so much faster. The class was way more fun than I expected it to be.
I love professor Anderson, she was very easy helpful with anything you need. Home work are easy. You have the choice to choose what you wanna present. She make you have gun and joy of the class. I would recommend to take her class.
Ms. Courtney is honestly the best! Shes very sweet, funny, and understanding. I took her for public speaking and shes really flexible and is relatively a good grader. Just give your best effort in your speeches and youll get an A. Highly recommend her for public speaking, even when its through zoom.
She's my favorite professor. She's really nice and understanding. Taking her class is pretty fun and very engaging. The textbook she suggested, for me, wasn't too necessary as I just went over the slides and did fine on the exams. Participation matters and always remember to practice your speeches and you'll do fine, as long as you improve!
Professor Anderson is a really nice and caring professor. As someone who is shy and doesn't like speaking publicly, I felt very natural in the class. There are three speeches that you will have to do and present in front of the "class". She is not a harsh grader and she is very flexible. Overall, I would recommend her for CMST 110.
She didn't grade anything important till AFTER the semester ended so there was no time for improvement. For some reason she gave 50% on all my and my friends discussions, despite the fact we followed her guidelines. Ignores emails. No feedback whatsoever. Never implemented earned extra credit. Good teacher, terrible grading policy and communication
Worst professor I've had in college. Completely unresponsive to emails. Doesn't show up to agreed-upon office hours. It is now the last week of the course and she has yet to grade ONE SINGLE assignment yet. We have to do our final project with ZERO input from how our other projects went before. She cancels class last minute. Doesn't teach.
I enjoyed taking Professor Anderson's class. She is very nice and pleasant, but also very strict on the guidelines for her class b/c it was on Zoom. Also, she can be opinionated with topics. She does not answer emails at all, so it's best to ask all questions during class. Course material and speeches are very easy, just practice and prepare!
Skewed grading procedures, she doesnt upload grades until the semester deadlines. You won't know what you scores until it's too late. She also deducted points for disability accommodations as well, not a good professor. I've never met a professor more interested in promoting her own club than caring for students just because they didn't participate
Professor Anderson is very kind and caring. You can tell she loves her students. However, her grading criteria is not clear and doesn't submit most grades until the semester deadline so you don't know what your grade is. Zoom lecture was easy, short, and fun. Just a little uncertainty in the class but I had a good time. Not a difficult class.
Dude I Love Ms Courtney so much she's awesome
Professor Anderson was the best teacher I've ever had. She enjoys listening to your speeches and gives good feedback on them. Don't listen to the other reviews about grading, she's doesn't take more than a couple weeks to input grades and is very lenient when it comes to grading as long as you put in the effort. Be engaging and you will have fun.
Ms. Anderson is very helpful and will help you understand public speaking to. where it doesn't make you feel uncomfortable to get in front of an audience of people.
