Awesome professor. Really fair, lays everything right out there for you. If you have a question or something that you disagree with, she is happy to take a second look. Best of all, matches the flow of class to real life and doesn't BURY you in assignments. Still makes you work though.
Really great teacher, fun to talk with easy 100 word summaries due every week not that hard.
Courtney made this class (eng 223-Las Vegas theme). She assigns work but explains everything crystal clear. It is a class you will enjoy taking. It is not hard. She made this class into a class you want to go to, laugh and learn at the same time. She is a good teacher and understands what it means to be a student, because she is one herself.
Professor has a tireless arrogance (see: wordpress page dripping with Latin) that she will enjoy sharing with you. Should you decide to take her based on these potentially self-authored reviews, note that her criticism quotient is higher than the usual mark for CSN; grades will come tough, and she is lamentably unsympathetic to disability students.
Let's just put it this way....prior to taking this class, I was a whiz in grammar and somewhat skilled in writing. I now have a writer's block and have a hard time getting my thoughts down on paper. Her criticism is that of preparing you to become a professional writer.
Courtney's online class was a straight forward assignment driven academic writing class. She will crush you if you make silly avoidable mistakes, but gives fair grades on effort.
Courtney's online class requires hard work. The first 2 essays assigned were extraordinarily boring, however it made academic writing and citing in MLA style crystal clear. Her reviews on your work are honest and fair. She also points you in the right direction to make the necessary improvements to succeed.
She is rude+arrogant in her emails, expects you to be perfect. She dosen't care about her students or if they succeed in her class. If you ask for help she responds to you like you are stupied. She grades unfairly and is unsympthtic to disabled students.I would't take her class again. She's the worst instructor I've ever had. Beware!Dont make her mad.
Courtney is a terrible teacher. She's lazy. I learned a lot more out of the books than I did in her class. She does NOT care about you as a student. She is arrogant, rude and condescending. If you ask her a question, she will no doubt look at you and speak to you like you're stupid. My first day there, she was begging people to drop the class.
I found Courtney to be a good teacher. She was very helpful, she leaves feedback on your essays so you know what you need to work on. The work is hard and a little boring but Im not into English at all so that could have been it too. There is alot of work though, she helps you out if you just ask.
Courtney is a pretty cool professor, but she can be pretty mean at times. I consider myself to be a pretty good writer, but she did make me feel as I wasn't most of the time. I know I am a better writer now though since she really does tell you all you need to work on. She's incredibly sarcastic so don't take everything so harshly. Overall, great!
I took her online ENG231 class. Her tests can be a little hard but you need to study! She gives out a couple of extra credit assignments to catch up. She was pretty helpful & responded quickly to my emails as well. It wasn't a bad class to take. Just make sure you have all the books & do your assignments on time!
How she is still a teacher at CSN boggles my mind. Took her online and regretted every minute of it. Her assistance as a teacher is her telling you to go to a website to figure things out on your own. She has no concept of what a teacher should be and gives teachers a bad name. She also discourges students. Would not recommend her to anyone!!!
Took 231 class online. Got books 3 1/2 weeks late/ bkstr messed up. I saw all the work that needed to be done, planned on quitting. She encouraged me to keep going, pointed out she had around 10 EC assignments. 65 on mid terms, didn't take finals assignments and still passed w/ an 83. Half of the assignments are videos so that made it interesting.
To keep it short and simple, expect to spend 9 hours a week on her class alone. She states this herself in the syllabus. An average week includes 2-3 reading assignments, 1-3 study guides, 3-5 quizzes and 1-2+ hours of videos with an activity every other week, all due on Thursdays at 1 pm. This is not a class for someone with a full schedule!
Not sure what professor some of these people took English with but the one I got was ridiculous! She's nice enough but gives COMPLETELY TOO MUCH WORK! Unless of course you don't have a full schedule and like a challenge. If you're working, taking more than three classes, or both, taking this class is a MISTAKE! And a BIG ONE at that!
I took Courtney Danforth's English 231 Online class. The class is not hard you just have to make enough time to do your assignments because there are a lot! You watch videos and take quizzes/ reading quizzes/ midterm/ do study guides/ activities/ EC's final paper and final exam.I enjoyed her class just be prepared for a lot of work and do it = A!
Expect to do a lot of work for her class. I mean you do learn about many stories throughout the world buts so much. There not hard to do though as long as you turn in the assignments on time. The only issue I had was with the exams which I feel some of those questions where not part of the course or the answers where to similar to the question.
If you like watching movies this is your class, but you have to take notes on every little detail, even the host of the video. Every reading assignment has to have detailed notes also. And you can't have an original thought, it must come from a professional source
Unorganized, keeps you bogged down with unnecessary work, and dismissive of online education. You learn more from the reading assignments. If you have absolutely nothing else to do, take her class.
Not an approachable teacher. Not helpful. Very sarcastic and rude. Tons of work, and if you have a question make sure you get a hold of her before Friday because she does not work on the weekends, got that clear now. Doesn't get involved with her students, just don't take her class; I wouldn't recommend it.
Really great teacher, I was able to learn through an online class perfectly and felt ready to take Eng 101. I passed the class with an A
This teacher is one of the best i've ever had. Although it was online and there was a lot of work, she provides A LOT of extra credit and is very thorough with her explanations. She gets back to you super fast and is just nice in general. She really cares about her students.
She is not an easy teacher, and will make you feel bad about your essays. If one of your essay contains something she might not like, she will go against you in the future. She is very rude and sarcastic, making you feel like you should not even try writing.
It's a 200 level World Lit course and she will make you act like it. Just do as you are instructed and you'll be fine. It helps to try your best to enjoy the stories you are reading. She was always responsive and helpful when I asked. Plan on spending some time every week if you are trying for a high grade, very time consuming. I enjoyed it.
I took this course online. I wish I had taken the course with a different professor. This is only a 200 level class and she gives a ridiculous amount of work. I'm taking three other 400 level courses and they don't even give as much work as she does. If you have an option to take this class with a different professor... DO IT!
There is a lot of material to cover for the class but it you do a little bit every day it is not overwhelming. While it first appears to be a lot of writing, it really isn't as your first assignment becomes a template you use for subsequent assignments. She quickly answers emails and is very encouraging. If you struggle, it really is YOUR issue.
TOUGHEST class ever! Took the condensed 4 week class, and she took the condensed literal! 10+ weeks worth of work in 4 weeks. 3 TESTS a day plus a 350 word Study Guide a day, five days a week! If you don't have a life, its a good class though.
Not an easy class, you have to write a lot and condense your work to fit the rubric. She is fair and will help you if you need it. I took the hybrid class which is certainly the way to go. You are required to post your essays on Canvas and your peers review them, you also have to review others. Thankfully your grade is from her and not your class.
Professor Danforth is a great teacher! I took her Lit 231 class in hopes of expanding my vocabulary and ancient literature skills. The thing is, you have to have some kind of idea of what you're signing up for. The workload can be tiring but with a healthy work schedule (putting aside to time to focus on her class) it really helps!
I found this class fairly easy if you actually participate and keep on track.
Courtney Danforth was the worst teacher I have taken on the online classes so far. She wouldn't get back to me on questions that I simplified for her many times and she would just tell me that my answers were in her study guide. Well actually no they weren't. It was extremely confusing on all levels. I ended up dropping out.
This was one of the best classes I have taken. Yes, there is a lot of work, but she gives you every effort to get an A. There are lots of opportunities for extra credit. Prof. Danforth takes the time to help you, so ask for it. She truly cares that you do well, and she's funny! Definitely one of the best professors at CSN.
I took the hybrid English 101 class at first I was a little hesitant and nervous to take this class but she really does a great job at teaching it. It's really not a hard class at all and that comes from someone who HATES English. You really just have to read a lot of the chapters and do tutorials every week that's about it only 3 essays all year
Awsome teacher! The class is super easy! She assigns weekly readings and usually two assignments a week. I passed this class with a 98.78% did my essays the night before and only skimmed through the readings so trust me it's an easy class. The professor is approachable and helpful if YOU ASK!
She's a great teacher and gives you the chance to ask questions in class but if everyone understands theres no need for class. Some days there is a lot of lectures but everything she says in in the book so as long as you read or at least skim it you will do fine.
By NO MEANS is this an easy class. The content is hard! She comes up with different ways to teach the content do that you, at least can pass. She is an amazing professor and lets you know how to fix your assignments for the next time around. I currently have her for World Lit Eng 231 and have had her for Eng 101. She will help you if you ASK!
I get this is a 4 wk class... but she literally has like 5 assignments due every day. On her syllabus, she recommends 8 hrs day, 5 days a week to work on her assignments... yeah idk who has that much extra time.
Lots and lots of homework for the 4wk class! But she is one of those teachers that gives you full points so just turn something in! average of 2-3 things due everyday mon-fri
I took her hybrid class and it was super easy. Attendance is not required so all class work was online. If you took AP classes in high school, it's the exact same thing just easier. I am a terrible writer and I still earned good grades
Don't recommend this class at all. She has a total disregard for her online students. In the help section of her syllabus all she has written is "don't ask me what you missed, it's infuriating" and a number to a homework hotline and class learning center. No instruction from her at all, just read and respond assignments and discussions.
I took Professor Danforth's hybrid English 101 course in Fall 2015. It was my first college course. She is a great professor to welcome incoming high school and first-time college students. She is friendly, approachable, funny, caring, and helpful. Consider Professor Danforth as a friend who is there to guide you through English and beyond.
There is a lot of busy work for this class but if you stay on top of it and do it you will pass this class with ease. Also make sure to cite your sources, she doesn't care what sources you use but make sure to cite them.
Professor Danforth is an amazing professor, gives feedback within a very reasonable time frame. I did find the amount of homework a little ridiculous, maybe because i am taking her online class. I spent about 3 hours daily trying to get my homework done, but luckily she isn't a super strict grader. If you have a job, don't bother with online class.
there is a lot of homework you have spend like 4 hours daily to done the homework if you full time don't take her
Very vague, not only in her grading but also feedback. Not very helpful and unresponsive.
alot of readings/homeworks BUT, grading criteria is on the easy side. Be careful of the due dates/time! late assignments only get half the credit. Plenty of extra credit opportunities to cover up several late assignments. 3 essays (1000 words) but no exam. although not mandatory, better to attend class since teacher is awesome and it helps a LOT.
Extreme amount of homework. If you work as well as take classes steer clear of this instructor. Minimum of 4 assignments due per week, all of which take one hour plus to complete. Some assignments took in excess of 3 hours.
ENG231-One of the best classes Ive had. If I wasnt graduating Id take her classes in a heartbeat! Professor Danforth picks enjoyable material, and she cares. Thats rare to have both. If you do the work, and reading, youll be OK. Her assignments are engaging, a bit of work in a shortened format, but you wont mind since its actually interesting.
I took her online class and she was a very good professor. She grades reasonably and provides decent feedback. Her topics to essays are very interesting which allows students to enjoy the homework. Take her class!
A lot of homework but not harsh in her grading. Do the best and she will give you credit. The only way you may fail is if you don't do the work.
This professor has the entire semester laid out on Canvas so you can work ahead. There are two assignments to do every week plus one extra credit opportunity. She always encourages you to look ahead to other assignments because some assignments you have to submit to a website that gives you feedback usually in 24 hours. Great professor overall.
Professor Danforth was great. I usually hate english courses but she made it extremely easy and also got me more comfortable using smart thinking tutoring. Each week you have 2 assignments and one extra credit opportunity. All very easy work. If I have the chance to take another of her classes I will!
She is amazing! There is a lot of reading and watching videos (but this is an English class) but the assignments are sooooooo easy. You can turn in assignments late until she says you can't. I learned a lot. There is a final essay worth 10 points at the end of the class. She hands out extra credit like crazy.
Professor Danforth is a great professor. I took her for 101 and 102. There's two assignments due every week and no final exam. Her work for 101 and 102 were all almost exactly the same thing except a different subject so I suggest you save your work (; There's also an extra credit assignment opportunity every week.
Just don't waste your time or money on this professor. i spent more time stressed about her class than any of my other class, and this is supposed to be a freshman level class LOL. She grades supper hard and her assignments have 4 different topics in it. im not even sure how she's able to teach TBH.
Lots of extra credit opportunities and gives great feedback. Very encouraging and im raking another class with her.
In this class you know what is expected of you from the start and you will have to work a little harder. You will get an A in this class as long as you put some effort in. Two assignments a week take about 3-4 hours to complete. There is a lot of reading but she does a great of job of picking texts that are genuinely interesting to read.
This class is SO EASY once you get the hang of it. Don't let that first intro week scare you like it did the bad raters. There is a lot of reading required, DUH it's a LITERATURE course lol. I learned so much in this class and Professor D is amazing. She wants you to succeed and use your brain. TONS of extra cred. No reason for less than an A+.
The class was very easy, but I wouldn't say she was my favorite professor. Her late policy and grading are super generous. But, her assignments are vague and I was never sure I was doing the right thing. The final essay was rough, the assignment was not clear. Lots of reading, and writing, but that's to be expected in an english class.
Very engaged with all students, motivating and inspirational. I loved this teacher and will take more classes from her when possible.
Her grading policy was chill, she says she doesn't deduct points for later work but that's a lie. Her assignments are just dumb and not properly worded. A lot of us were confused by what she was asking for and still are, it's just so unorganized and you don't know what she wants. I would not take her class again.
Professor Danforth had multiple good things about her class but her assignment structure was nonsensical. She would request your big assignment for the week 2 days after assigning it and request your research for that assignment 4 days after assigning it. This made it difficult to follow the class.
An extreme amount of work compared to the other 3 credit classes. Instructions are very confusing. I could re-write her assignments with a great deal more clarity. She never offered suggestions on how to improve my writing, don't feel like I learned anything, and was a disappointing class for me, a ton of work without critique from the professor.
I would rate this professor 0/5. There are two assignments due every week writing and research. At first I was so okay with that but once you actually get to the assignments they are so LONG basically 10-12 different assignments you have to do summed up in one. Her assignments are so confusing too. WOULD NOT TAKE HER AGAIN!!!
Professor Danforth is a great instructor. She seems to care about your progress in the class as she gives good feedback. There is a lot of homework though and class participation is a must. The dude dates are a bit close together too and the assignments have a lot of parts. I would take her class again if the oppurtunity should arise.
Professor Danforth is really knowledgable and her lectures were so informative. She's a pretty easy grader and understands life happens. Just give her the heads up if you're gonna be late on an assignment and she'll still work with you. Would take her class again as the material and her way of teaching was great!
There are two assignments due a week with two discussion responses, but an opportunity for extra credit on each. Gives great feedback and while there is a lot of work, she allows you to turn assignments in late for just a small point taken off. I really loved this professor because she really grades you on effort and willingness to learn overall.
This teacher is honestly very good and cares about your progress the class is a bit hard but as long as you try she'll give you a good grade. Its difficult and confushing at first but then you'll get use to is
Assignments are all wordy but have the same format. Do not be afraid of the assignments, you will get used to it and she will hep you throughout. Requires a lot of reading and a couple books required as long as you have access, no need to pay if possible. 2 assignments due every week that takes at least 3 hours each to finish with one final essay.
I loved Professor Danforth. She really cares for her students/wants us to succeed. There's a lot of homework each week, writing and research assignment which would take 3 hours. Coursework is pretty heavy but each assignment leads up to the final which was just submitting the essays we did during the course. Finished with a 103, offers extra credit
2 discussion posts every week of the assignment given. The final is just an accumulation of all the big assignments you did + a reflection.
Professor Danforth is an instructor you will not regret taking! She provides an amazing learning environment where you will feel comfortable asking questions. She offers extra credit and answers her emails in a helpful manner. In this course, you will read and watch movies while gathering information for a final paper at the end of the semester.
She is very caring and seems as if she wants to fit in with the younger crowd, however, her work is two assignments a week which doesn't sound like a lot but one takes about 7 hours of your time and is very repetitive and draining, I would not take this class again. I absolutely dread doing this class
Wanted an 18 hour/week commitment in order to pass the class. Started by giving us a 350 word assignment due in 2 hours, then demanded another 350 word assignment with a synthesis matrix and research due at 9 am the next day. Links in the assignment were missing codes. Extremely condescending attitude. I dropped that class like a hot potato.
Professor Danforth is a great professor, but this course was definitely tough. LOTS of reading, LOTS of time needed to complete homework, and instructions can require a bit of deciphering. If you work full-time, be prepared for a lot of work. Make sure you choose a topic that correlates with the lessons or you'll be screwed.
I took a hybrid class which was also condensed so the work load was pretty hefty but manageable. There's 4 assignments due each week, there's class discussions and one large paper due at the end of the semester. Each assignment leads up to the final paper.
This professor gives a lot of work throughout the week, so heads up for that. She is confusing at times and difficult when grading. From my experience, she will not take accountability for mistakes she makes. But otherwise, she was okay at times.
for an english class, not bad. for a condensed class it was overwhelming. in a week, theres: 2 class assignments, which are discussions most of the time, and 2 homework assignments which consist of an essay or something related to your final portfolio. i'd love the teacher 10x better if i knew it was a condensed class. wouldnt take the short class
Danforth was probably the worst English professor I have ever had, English is my favorite subject and I feel like she turned me off of it, Protest and Resistance we were given 3 books to read and quote, a new article or movie taking hours sometimes. So much busy work taking 4-5 hours per assignment and incredibly annoying just so unnecessary.
This class is pretty difficult and research-heavy for a world literature class. Although she offers extra credit and has a good late work policy, the workload is heavy and may lead to burnout. In this class, there are also inconsistent due dates that could make it difficult to turn in work if you like to be on time. Try taking another class!
Professor Danforth is an excellent instructor, though her course is a heavy workload (8-week summer course, granted) I reaped so much more from her encouragement and feedback than I would in any other typical 101 class. If you are a detail-oriented, type-A student, you will like her. If English is not your strong suit, you will likely struggle.
To me her feedback was always encouraging and super helpful. I also enjoyed the reading and the resources she provided for help with assignments.
Gives zero feedback on assignments and responds to one question a day. For an online course this is annoying. Grades on a Rubic not given to students. Prepare to do the same assignments until the end of the semester. Research posters and a synthesis of random stories across the world.
Whatever you do, do not take this professor. If she is the only one available, take the class a different semester. This teacher will not work with you if you are having problems and is not helpful whatsoever. I spent hours on readings and assignments, and it did not matter. Save yourself the money and time.
she is so mean, and the kinda follow rules teacher
Took her condensed course..honestly not sure how anyone could get an A. Grades based on rubrics not provided to her students, exams are extremely strenuous + strict classroom. Homework assignments are 3-5 parts in one (research, essay/notes, peer review, author response) and are graded with Perusall AI. Take literally any other 101 course.
I checked this professor's work with the same checker they use on us and found some of her stuff is AI generated (crazy), also grades assignments with Perusall AI. I've learned more history from doing research posters in this class than I learned world literature. Will give you an F on an assignment with zero feedback. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
This class was extremely heavy and poorly organized. Each assignment took about an hour, and instructions were broad, unclear, and often seemed AI-generated. Perusall made readings frustrating, quizzes focused on tiny details, and Canvas deadlines were confusing. Overall, I would not take this professor again.
It'a kind of hilarious and ridiculous how she managed to make an English course hard. If you find yourself landing on her name when enrolling for English courses, just scroll away. The amount of work assigned won't allow you to focus on other course homework nor outside campus activities. I've been drained since the near beginning of this class.
