The worst class I've ever taken. Teaching is straight up awful. Her lectures are a video of her reading off a piece of paper & following along with her finger. She does't explain ANYTHING. Literally just says "this is this & this is this". I haven't learned a single thing in this class at all & I cannot believe a graduate course is taught like this
Pros: - Clear, concise, and never made material dull. - Exams and quizzes based off lectures slides, homework and class projects. - For online students, work at your own pace and able to work ahead if needed. Cons: - Not really a con, but be ready to put in some effort for a good grade. It isn't easy, but she makes it very doable.
She really wants us to improve our public speaking abilities. She is really nice and gives good feedback. The project is kind of a lot of work, but it is not too hard. Make sure you speak up in class. Should be an easy A.
She is nice, but no extra credit or curves re given. Her lectures arent helpful and the test are beyond hard. This class is harder than my other 5 combined. Do not recommend taking her.
I am a math person, but apparently not an accounting person, or at least not when it is taught by Prof Foster. She is very nice, but her class consists of you watching YouTube videos of her notes and crying. No real time lectures. SI sessions are a must and if you cant go you cry some more. quizzes arent too bad but tests are horrible.
Professor Foster was an amazing professor. Easy to interact with and always welcoming during office hours. If you don't do the additional problems, homework, and practice exams you won't do well. It takes more than just watching her lectures to understand this class. She is clear and coherent and explains things in a very detailed manner.
Foster isn't the best prof out there for accounting but she gets her job done. You HAVE to go to SI sessions to get a decent grade though. Her lecture videos tend to be somewhat general, so to pass the tests you have to work through all the sample exams, quizzes, and notes. Overall, she's very sweet and reachable by email, etc.
Professor Foster is a very sweet person, but it was just difficult to take remotely. She gives you recorded lectures and other practice problems, but they aren't very similar to the tests at all. ACCT 229 for me was not easy to take without a face-to-face professor, so dropping was best for me. If you do take Foster, attend the SI Sessions!!
First off accounting shouldn't be taken online, but although Foster is a very sweet person, her teaching abilities aren't the best. All you have to work with is filled out notes and youtube videos, her examples she includes aren't really helpful for quizzes and the practice exams aren't like the test. SI SESSIONS are what saved my grade.
The video notes consist of reading off of a piece of paper, which is frustrating for a masters level class. Decent at responding to emails. Weekly quizzes based on the notes. Exams are fair and she gives practice materials which are helpful. Two major projects: don't procrastinate on them. Overall, not the worst but you do have to put in work.
Would not take it under Mrs. Courtney if I could. Materials are focused on the what aspect and miss out explaining the why behind. I overcame this through my interest in Acc and use of outside materials. Hate to say this but cheating is pretty rampant. Prof knows this but not enough has been done to combat this like making exams in-person.
Worst class taken by far. Shes gotta be the laziest prof ever and a perfect example of how not to teach. Every lecture-vid is focused on what something is and not why/how something works. hw is useless, worked examples will maybe apply to one test question. cheating is rampant cus u dont actually learn anything. there is no succeeding in her class
This class was absolutely horrible. The format should be changed significantly or scrapped. I am not sure how much professor Foster has to do with this, but she did not help at all during the course. The materials she provided were essentially useless.
Terrible class, took 209 but it wont let me choose it probably because then she would have an even greater amount of 1 star reviews. Unnecessarily hard exams with study guides that confuse you even more and provide no help for the actual exam. Horrid pacing even for an asynchronous class. I should have never chosen a business minor.
Studied quizzes pretty heavily before exam time and found myself completely lost in the exam as the questions weren't related. The class average on the first exam was 44 and no curve was given, so unless you spending 10+ hours a week on this class I would highly recommend getting your credit for this course elsewhere or with another professor.
ACCT 209. The first exam averaged 48%, 75% of the class scored 60% or lower, and her only comment about it was, "Great job on Exam #1!" I initially wanted to blame the structure of the course, which is primarily taught by a non-TAMU online business course, but she's clearly at least complicit in the poor job they're doing. She doesn't seem to care.
This class should not be allowed to be taught online. Also "taught" is an overstatement because the "teaching" is non-existent. The quizzes are extremely advanced, the class is unstructured, and the HW assignments were replaced by packback. Don't waste your time taking accounting, take it somewhere else no matter what your advisors say.
1. She takes pride on making this course difficult so beware this course is 50% designed for you to learn and 50% for you to waste your time on useless tricks and twists that will hurt your grade 2 Be ready to dedicate 20 hours of your week to this course. If you're a master studetn and are time limited get ready to suffer .
New professor for ACCT 209. It was an online course that used an online lecture and textbook system. The biggest issue with this class is the difficulty of exams and quizzes. Most of the class did so bad on the first exam she changed her exam formatting. At least she was willing to change her policies for our benefit.
Foster is the worst professor at TAMU. 52 on exam 1, average of 46, and all she said about it was "great job!" This class I structured in order for you to fail. Don't know one person that has a B in the course, let alone an A. I have 3.9 gpa, am taking 4 other courses, all upper level, and acct is the only one i dont have an A in (C in ACCT 209).
This professor is completely disconnected from her class. There's a classroom chat on "Packback" (that we had to purchase including MyBusinessCourse) that she doesn't read at all. The average on the first exam was 50ish and she sent us a "Good Job" message while over half of the class failed the exam. She has no clue what's going on and is absent.
Unbelievable that this can even be called a professor. It ends up being basically a self taught class and the exams are brutal (FRQ heavy, different than quizzes, must show work, lockdown browser, etc.) Averages below 50's is not right. How TAMU lets her solely be in charge of ACCT 209 this year beats me.
Same as every other business minor class. Teacher has little to no involvement, overreliance on 3rd party resources for assignments, and basically self taught. If you are a business minor, expect to learn nothing from the classes, the minor will just look good on your resume.
She doesn't teach period. You are on your own with the textbook. I started studying 2 weeks in advance for the first exam to get an 82. She obviously literally could not care less about the class. Take it elsewhere if you can.
Terrible class. Extremely difficult. Tests have no correlation to the quizzes. If you are taking ACCT 209 try and get the credit elsewhere and transfer it over.
I would say this class is probably the hardest class Ive ever taken at a university. Quizzes and homework are fine, but tests are extremely difficult and very little time is given for each question considering their difficulty. I would recommend avoiding this class if able.
Absolutely worst way of teaching this class. This should not be an online class, let alone a class with pre-recorded video lectures. Mrs. Foster does not care for any of her students and does not tend to any of their needs. Whenever I asked a question via email, she would say to attend her office hours which involve all students taking her classes
Foster is not a professor I would ever recommend to anyone. I'm wondering as I write this if I should even consider her a professor as she's never once made an effort with her asynchronous student. They should tell students like it is and name the professor of this course the textbook, not the lady who simply organizes Canvas and horrible exams.
The worst...literally said "good job" for a class average of 50. MOnster
Terrible class organization. Uses a third party website that we had to pay for and the lectures are not even from her nor do they help with any of the material. Tests were way more difficult than any practice/example problem we were given. Class avg for first test was a 48 and she sent out a message saying good job. Take this class somewhere else.
I taught this class to myself. The only lectures we had came with the text book and were useless. We also had her class notes which were already filled out. I had a better time with Calc 1,2,3 and Ochem than this class. There is no need for it to be this hard she doesn't teach. I've never left a review on rate my professor but she was terrible.
The reviews are correct, transfer the credit. The coursework is easy free points, discussion questions, two projects (one is completion based and the other takes some effort but is multiple choice), and unlimited time open note quizzes. However the exams are 56% of your grade and are hard. The 75 min given for 25 questions for accounting is rough.
I have never left a review on rate my professor... but DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!! She does not teach ANYTHING. You have to watch textbook lectures, with no practice problems, just going over "concepts." I have tried to teach myself everything. She gave notes that were already filled out with 0 explanations. Absolutely avoid at all costs!!!!
she is the only prof for 209. get a tutor I have never gotten a tutor for anything but you'll need it. don't wait for the last minute. I studied 40-50 hours for every test. work every problem till you understand how and why. get as many points as you can on the everything else so the tests aren't stressful. I still made a B getting 60s on tests.
Accounting is a difficult course, so it doesn't help that it's online. Dr. Foster teaches over 400 students, so it's difficult to teach everyone. I didn't get a tutor, but I know a lot of people who did and that helped them. I suggest to do well on quizzes, the two projects, and participate in discussions so that exams aren't too terrible.
Taking this class is pretty atrocious. You're essentially teaching yourself out of a textbook (that you pay for) and some printable notes that offer 0 explanation. I get it, its a weed out class for the business minor, but unfortunately for me this class is required for my major. Hands down sucks.
Trust me, take this class somewhere else. Negative stars should be an option.
I don't know what to say about this class. It's definitely something that's designed to be a weed out class for business minors. The exams are extremely difficult, the quizzes are fine, you get two attempts, and there's weekly pack backs. If I could go back I'd transfer in this credit. Mrs. Foster doesn't teach, you're completely on your own.
Rough class, and I hope she realizes her teaching methods are not working. All lectures are done through a paid program (they suck), except for her examples. Google (acct209) for lectures to save your grade. She didn't release averages for anything, so you don't know how you're doing. 267 Q drops for fall of 22. No curves until end of the semester.
Doesn't Teach, You're expected to learn on your own. I would recommend taking this class literally anywhere else.
The course is organized very well, and she is very clear on requirements and what will be expected of you. It is the way that the material is taught that is absolutely awful. The lecture videos are a waste, and the exams are insanely harder than the weekly quizzes. The exams are also only 75 minutes to complete 25 challenging accounting problems.
Professor Foster is a very nice person and made the course guidelines clear during the first Zoom meeting. However, the course itself is pretty much self-taught and becomes more difficult as the semester progresses. If you have previous knowledge relating to accounting, you might be fine. The good thing is, she enters grades quickly.
Its really not as bad as some of the reviews have put it. This course was easier than most of the courses I have taken, of course it still requires work and studying. I underestimated the first exam and scored below average, but was still able to salvage my grade to an A with some effort. Just do the recommended problems and review the quizzes.
Actually an awful teacher. Class itself really isn't super difficult but have to teach self quite literally everything. "Lectures" consist of her covering pre-filled-out notes with a piece of paper and sliding the paper down to read something we could simply see ourselves. If we weren't able to use notes on tests it wouldn't be possible to pass.
How does learning accounting online sound? Well, be prepared to teach it all to yourself. Seriously. Course material consists of: Video recordings of accounting material Weekly discussion board posts Weekly quizzes Big Final Project Tests & More Take this class elsewhere. I dreaded taking this class.
I had all As except for this class, question on the exams totally from quizzes and textbook. I have no ideas how does she have a job, otherwise I could be the professor just send out announcement every week and that's it.
Compared to other asynchronous courses, this was one atrocious. There was a lack of preparatory material, comprehensive lectures, and adequate feedback- all things necessary for an asynchronous course to be effective. Mrs. Foster was overall nice and clear with grading, but I feel that the course could greatly benefit from better course content.
Courtney Foster is an AI. There's no such thing as lectures or accessibility in its' course. You're told what textbook to learn from and set free from there. No amount of notes or resources can get you a good grade on its' tests. It structures its' class in a way that is impossible to efficiently learn. Take ANYWHERE else for the love of god.
Could've been better, but could've been a whole lot worse too. Largely self-taught, exams were pretty hard but quizzes and other assignments provided a really solid safety net. I failed two exams and still got a B. Use your resources for exams and take your time with quizzes and you'll be fine. Overall, easy to pass but hard to excel in I think.
She makes you want to put a .45 where it doesn't belong
This class is really difficult, but because her tests and quizzes are based off her video demo example problems, other resources aren't needed apart from Canvas. Email replies are slow but, she will take time to break down the problem vs telling you to refer back to the notes. She cares about her students but is harsh about deadlines so work ahead!
This was my hardest class, and she did not teach anything. All coursework goes through an external website that does a bad job of explaining the content. I only passed this class by attending the accounting help desk early in the semester and multiple times a week. You must study this class more than any other core class at Texas A&M. Good luck
Does not provide actual lectures. You have to read the textbook and teach yourself the entire class.
Like most business minor courses, expect to be teaching yourself the material. Doesn't really explain equations that well, just sort of acts like "that's just how it is". Go to the accounting help desk and study for several hours each week or you won't pass.
She structures the class and gives you a lot of cushion (2 attempts on quizzes/ points for pack backs). The exams are extremely hard and it is hard to learn with no prior knowledge of accounting. She is a nice person but the class itself is awful. More self-taught than anything.
Professor Foster seems like she understands the content, but her teaching methods are not helpful. This course is difficult and the main issue is that there is little to no help if you don't understand. If this were an in person class I feel as though it would be easier, if you can avoid this online course and possibly take it in person I would.
Save yourself some time, stress, and GPA. Take it at a community college. The format for this class is awful for such an intricate subject, especially for a course that is not major-specific if you are taking it here. You can scrape by but you will feel like you've wasted your time, I know I have.
This class is waste of time. Take it some where else and transfer it. The whole class is "Self-Taught". She does not teach anything to you and her notes are complete useless. The exams are not proctor and dont expect a curve because apparently who cares about the Aggie Honor Code. Get ready to study 100+ hrs worth and make a 65 or worst.
Get ready for a huge workload. No, like literally. You have to be studying a lot. The professor is nice, but she can't really do much since the entire class is online. The real problem is with how stingy all of the non-business major Mays Business School classes are. This class was much harder than it needed to be.
Absolutley awful. Like embarrasingly bad. The lecture notes she gives out each week are just a mess of random notes with NO context whatsoever. Embarrasing to the university. She should be fired and never hired ANYWHERE EVER AGAIN.
I have not seen a professor care so little about the course."Lecture" is just videos and reading from the textbook YOU BUY, giving you no feedback for any of your work. Did you have questions about what you got wrong on the exam? Sorry, you can only ask her 3 questions and it must be done within 48 hours of the test. Did an hour daily to get an 80.
Don't do it. If its possible, transfer in this course from a community College for the credit because this class, if you can even call it that, will give you the least amount of guidance possible. The course is split into modules that are focused on you teaching yourself from videos and the book. Extremely test heavy and the tests are hard.
Unless absolutely required, do not take this course with this professor. It's a weed out class and she doesn't even hide it.
This professor is awful, unfortunately if you're taking this class its probably required. I am a good student, not one to complain about professors this is a warning, if at ALL possible take this class at Blinn. There is literally no material given to learn from except scanned notes which are not even for this class but for the masters equivalent.
Not worth it. She offers a lot of material to help you learn, but most of it comes without explanation so you are on your own. Quizzes and tests are quite difficult. I never personally reached out with a question, but from what my friends say, it's hard to reach her. Don't know what alternatives there are (I'm an engr major), but don't take her.
The course is online so it kind of sucks having to watch long videos, but the material was not that bad. The videos went over the notes, which had examples of the topics. Prof responded to emails quickly and was pretty helpful when I had any questions.
Professor Foster has been one of the best professors I have had at A&M. The lectures are self-paced and hands off, but she was always available to help me further understand the material. She really knows what she's talking about, and as long as you are willing to ask for help, you will do well in this class.
This course is unnecessarily difficult and this instructor is the only option. Its mostly self-taught and all review sessions are during the regular 9-5 workday so its impossible to get the extra help if you have to work for a living while attending classes, which defeats the purpose of offering a class online in my opinion.
Would have been nice to get extra practice problems for exams. Lot of the info is excess in the notes and never shows up on test. The material itself isn't hard to understand. Spent about 3 hrs a month on this class.
I would say that for the most part she herself is not terrible, but the way ACCT 209 online is run is terrible. She does the best she can, it is basically self taught, she gives breakdowns on each week on canvas. If you can stay accountable and make yourself do the work the class is not that bad.
Accounting is just a difficult class to take online if you're not a business major and have never learned it before. She was very nice but if you don't read the textbook and do practice problems it will be hard to pass. The averages for all of the tests were in the 70s. I took over the summer with a full time job and didn't enjoy the stress.
Avoid Courtney Foster at all costs. Examples aren't representative of exam questions. Preparing for days still isn't enough even for students who otherwise receive A's. Packbacks are not weighted enough to improve your grade. I'm disappointed that Courtney is a professor at such an outstanding school. Office hours aren't helpful and very minimal.
Literally the best , everything was so easy with unproctored exams and free projects that took some time but were totally doable. the easiest A ive gotten at A&M, her notes and workout videos are super helpful and if you put in the time to actually do the work & take the notes unlike half of the people rating her, an A is literally a piece of cake.
I used mostly Canvas materials when I was learning. I only emailed Mrs. Foster once, but she was helpful and responded in under 24 hours. Exams are hard because timing is tight, questions are long, and I am prone to making math errors. This class got harder as it went on. Hold yourself accountable and do the work or you will not do well.
Dr. Foster is not nearly as bad as the reviews say. As a web-based class, the content itself is pretty difficult, but she provides a lot of material outside of the textbook that is very helpful. My only complaint is that office hours were during really inconvenient times during the day. That being said, there is a pretty heavy workload, but doable.
She was an amazingly helpful professor. I accidentally missed my final due to me writing the wrong day in my calendar and she understood and allowed me to make it up. She was very nice and very helpful. She is definitely a helpful professor.
Everyone who has something nice to say about her cheated on everything. She does not teach a single thing. She tells you to read the textbook, goes over a few sample problems that are nothing like the quizes or exams, then holds practically no office hours that you can attend. She told us she would curve at the end of the semester but never did.
Course is basically only self taught, your grade is made up of 3 exams, 14 or so quizzes, and packback. The text book is very wordy, and does a poor job of explaining anything. The videos that are provided are helpful, but take this course somewhere else. Anyone who is praising her cheated on basically everything
She doesn't teach, which is common with online courses, but she does not provide any substantial learning material other than her own lengthy and redundant textbook, and her slides which do not reflect the homework or exams. Her TA is useless and takes forever to grade. Would not recommend taking this class.
I am biased towards watching video lectures, so this class wasn't bad for me. It took a lot of studying, but the concepts mostly were remembering a set of rules. Redoing the quizzes is the best form of practice and sets you up pretty well. 20 free points for professionalism, so if you are polite and study you will do fine!
It's a class for business minors and online so I wasn't expecting much. She does very little to actually teach and you do pretty much teach yourself everything. She posts review videos that are somewhat helpful. Test are online and unproctored. There are also quizzes once a week that are the same style and packsacks due on Friday.
Her class is super easy. As long as you stay on top of assignments, it's not a difficult class. She drops a ton of grades and you get 2 chances on every quiz so there's no reason to fail. She has detailed notes, it's an open note exam, and there's at least two extra credit assignments that don't take long at all.
Very easy, yet low-quality class, don't feel like I learned all that much, and most of the class is busy work. The course is designed terribly, and the textbook is a pain to use. The professor lives in Dallas, so you can't meet with her in person. Just felt like a low-effort class and a waste of money, honestly. Do practice problems for easy A.
This class honestly wasn't that hard. It's like every other TAMU business minor course where the teachers don't really help you and you have to do the work yourself. But there were weekly quizzes (no lockdown browser), 1 big project (super easy), and 3 exams (no lockdown browser). The class was easier than I expected based off of these past reviews
I'm the AI that aced ACCT 209 for a student using his parents' tuition. Cost: $80 for an online textbook key. Unproctored exams & formulaic tasks mean zero learning is required. My algorithms generated the 'A'. This isn't education; it's a grade for purchase. A highly efficient transaction for checking a box. 5/5.
Online lectures were thorough and we could email her at anytime or zoom office hours. Quiz and project content helped me to study for the exam.
She is very helpful with understanding the content and she gives you access to a lot of resources. She creates a great learning environment, which you can easily contact her and figure out certain problems or issues. She gives extra credit, but the tests are worth more than half of your grade. Solid class, I had no problems with her.
I highly recommend Professor Foster for Accounting 209. My course was online, but her course material was extremely organized, her videos were clear and comprehendible, and there were so many sources to use as leverage. She is the perfect professor for such a difficult course.
Accounting is hard and there's definitely no way to get around that, Mrs. Foster was super organized with everything and had the same expectations week-to-week which helped the flow of the course. The tests are open-note but the notes don't serve much help with how difficult they are, class requires a lot of studying outside of "lecture.
Mrs. Foster really loves her students but she assigns so many assignments and everything is due at 5pm on Thursdays and you can't make them up. I work during that time so if I didn't finish it before work then I had no opportunity to make it up which is why I'm ending with a C.
It's your standard online business accounting class for a business minor. The content isn't too bad and the class is organized pretty well. Only issue is that exams were at 7:30pm on Tuesdays which was a nuisance. Its an easy A as long as you follow along.
Great prof!! this class was very hard and be prepared to do the work. the annotated notes on canvas really helped and make use of reviewing quizzes before the test! exams were on lockdown. She emails back really fast which I LOVED. Overall, tough class but good prof plus its an online class so take what you will.
