It's been a month since I have had her, but so far if you have any background in chemistry it is easy. Do you're homework though cause she likes pop quizzes.
She is somewhat terrible. She literally takes the PowerPoint she presents straight out of the textbook CD. She doesn't clarify and is hard to hear if you sit far from the front.
just sit in the front, do the homework each night and you will be 100% fine. She is pretty fair and actually really nice if you talk to her.Unlike a lot of the other chem teachers, her first language is English. and yeah she gives pop quizzes...but they are straight from the hw problems
She can be a bit dry, but is otherwise great. She means well and her teaching style got much better after ditching the powerpoints. go to class & office hours & review sessions - she'll help you out & you'll be fine. quizzes are straight from the homework and tests are fine if you study. Much better than the other gen chem 1 professors.
She is a pretty good professor, when she teaches without powerpoints. You definitely need the textbook, and you definitely need to go to class. There are unannounced quizzes. In person she is really nice, and I highly recommend going to her office hours and review sessions.
She's very willing to help but Chemistry is hard no matter what. Quizzes are easy and the tests are easier than other sections. This class is not a breeze but if you put work in you can probably succeed.
Dr. Lopreore is amazing. Take her above all the chem1070 professors. She gives pop quizzes, but are very easy if you do the homework. the tests are easier than other sections. you'll be fine. if you're good at chemistry, the class will be a breeze. also she's a really nice person in general. Love her!!
Dr. Lopreore is one of the best General Chemistry teachers. She really wants her students to succeed, and she will even hold optional weekly review sessions if you ask her too. If she does, GO TO THEM. They help a lot. Quizzes are easy as they are designed to boost your grade. Test questions are similar to homework.
LOVE HER!! she's so personable and makes so much sense in her lectures. Read the textbook before class and it will help so much. Her tests are VERY fair! Take her!
Her tests are fair and she can be nice, but for the most part she isn't very helpful. When I met with her to let her know I was struggling, the only thing she could say to me was to take this class as a "sit in". If you aren't naturally gifted in chemistry, I would not take her. Her lectures are straight from the textbook.
Pretty dry lecturer, but actually a very helpful, nice lady. Classes are not required and quite boring, but if you pay attention, she gives you all you need to know. Quizzes were super easy, but tests were challenging, as many kids failed. Definitely take her if you like math more than theory.
Dr. Lopreore simply repeats what she writes on the board and does not explain the material. You learn everything on your own from the textbook. Test grades are extremely low bur there is a huge curve at the end.
Take her class for gen chem! Although not the best lecturer in the world she is probably the best of the gen chem professor. Extremely nice and helpful if you are struggling. I recommend going to her office hours. She is really nice and helpful in them. Quizzes are straight out of homework. Chem isnt easy though and you will have to work for it.
I had to teach myself all of the material. Which was rough. Tests were beyond unfair. The class was taught assuming that everyone had taken AP Chem in HS which isn't fair because I hadn't...
She doesn't teach. She writes with chalk on the white board, which is impossible to see. When you ask her questions, it is seems like she doesn't know the material. Her exams may seem easier, but in the end they are more difficult because you must teach yourself everything. Don't take this class, you will struggle and fail.
Love her! She made me like chem much more than I did before! Very easy to do well without AP Chem! As long as you go to lecture she gives you all the information you need, and if you do the suggested exercises she posts then you are going to do well. Quizzes are from the problems she assigns and tests are similar, bit more challenging, but doable.
Really nice and fair professor. The people that don't do well aren't willing to put in the time and effort. She is much better than the other gen chem professors and really wants everyone to succeed. Tests are very fair, as was the final.
Easily the best General Chemistry professor has to offer. She is extremely helpful if she's ever in her office. There were many times that she would be late to her office hours or just not show up at all. However, that's as bad as it gets with her being a professor. Very engaging and wonderful. Definitely take her if you can.
She is AWESOME! I hated gen chem 1, but in gen chem 2, I love it! She's really good at teaching the material. If you read, do her practice problems and the example problems in the book, attend the review sessions you should be golden. Oh yeah and GO TO CLASS. It's not that hard. Plus she gets to know all her students. By far the best gen chem prof
You must attend lectures and pay very close attention because you have to solve problems on tests exactly the way she does them in class. No use in reading the textbook because she doesn't test on how well you know the material.
this is definitely the gen chem teacher you want to take unless Koplitz is teaching (bc he's the best professor at tulane) lopreore is super fair and go out of your way to get to know her and she will bump your grade at the end. attend lectures!! quizzes are incredibly easy but exams are a lot harder so beware. You can get an A but you have 2 study
Lopreore is a really nice lady who truly cares that her students do well. She really gives you all the tools you need to succeed on her tests, I would say your grade in this class is a direct correlation to how much time you put in. I'd highly recommend her to anyone.
Best to take for gen chem.
By far the best professor to take for 1070. Quizzes are very, very easy and are announced.. but they are often announced in weird ways so pay attention. Going to class office hours is must if you want to work for an A. Test are difficult. Not a blow off class. You have to study in advance for tests
Lopreore makes things pretty clear and is a lot easier than the other Chem 1070 professors. There are 3 tests per semester and they aren't too tough and some quizzes that are super easy. Definitely buy the solutions manual
Dr. Lopreore's class is definitely not difficult. She gives three tests, each only four questions that are easily doable if you've done the practice problems she puts up. She's helpful if you go to her office hours or if you ask for help. Her lectures are fairly dry though.
Very straight-forward class. She gives you methods to solve virtually everything which is nice. She's not very interesting, but she will answer your questions. She wants you to learn chem, but she's not going to go out of her way to do so. If you need help go to her. Big lecture class, okay teacher. Tests aren't bad if you study the suggested probs
I love Dr. Lopreore. She is definitely the prof. to take for gen chem. Very straight forward lectures, but she is actually funny a lot of the time. Really nice to all her students and is always willing to help. DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS to get an A. The tests are difficult, but if you have done the practice problems, an A is definitely possible.
Lopreore truly means well; she's a great person, but her lectures are not incredibly clear. I often found that the problem was that she does not explain the backgroundmeanings of concepts, which can make it very difficult to be able to do many of the homework problems. The tests are not terrible, but there are many tricks to watch out for.
Dr. Lopreore is really helpful as long as you go to class and are willing to reach out to her. She truly wants you to be successful, but she's not going to hand you an A. Honestly, you get out of this class what you put into it. It's difficult but definitely not impossible.
Best of the ludicrousness that is gen Chem at tulane. Her lecture notes teach you how to do almost everything that she tests on. Has a tendency to rush certain chapters but overall great teacher. Best way to succeed is to work problems from the text book.
Not the best lecturer but she's the only chem1070 prof with fair exams. Very nice lady who wants her students to learn chemistry. Quizzes are sometimes unannounced but are EXTREMELY easy. Absolutely a must take if Koplitz isn't teaching.
Lopreore is a great Gen Chem professor. From someone who got a C in high school chemistry and never took AP, I was able to keep an A the entire time. Requires a good bit of effort, learned by working the textbook problems and not from the lectures, but very fair professor. Wants students to do well and will go out of her way to help you if needed.
For Chem1070, she's your best bet. Lectures are average but clear. She explains how to do what you need to do. If you do the assigned problems, you'll do fine on the tests- but study the material. If you have any questions about the homework, she'll answer them at recitation- however, if you have class during recitation, tough luck.
Take Dr. Lopreore for Gen Chem if you can by all means. Very fair tests, which means averages are quite high so you have to do really well to be above the curve. Gives really easy pop quizzes (one time it was "write your favorite element")- don't skip class. She's such a sweet person too.
Take first semester, avoid at all costs second semester. I went to her office a total of 7 times, 6 of those were after I'd set up an appointment with her or she'd said that she would be there, and didn't end up seeing her once all semester for various reasons, although I think she was going through health problems. Not bad, but in no way the best.
Lopreore is the most fair of the chemistry teachers, but by no means is she great. If you read the textbook and do the suggested exercises you'll pass, she doesn't give hard tests. Also go to her recitations Sunday night. She's nice, but her lectures are pretty choppy. You don't have to show up to class, and her quizzes are random but easy.
Fairly easy. The tests can be kind of frustrating (sometimes material not in the practice problems shows up), but she gives a pretty good curve if the class average is low. Quizzes are extremely easy. She tells you when you're going to have them and they are essentially attendance quizzes. Homework is optional, but recommended for test prep.
Class is not mandatory and you will honestly be more confused if you go to the lecture than if you just read straight from the textbook. All she does during lecture is race through practice problems, but it is very unclear what steps she is doing or anything about the problem.
The test are not exactly tough, its just that she gives no outlines or study guides so you have no idea if you are studying the right material. It feels like your grade just depends on how lucky you are. Class is pointless, I started doing much better when I stopped going.
She is very smart but lectures are dry; every day she just rushes through definitions/examples from this little notebook she has. Quizzes are extremely easy and her exams are prob the "easiest" out of the chem 1070 profs. Go to class to know what material she'll test, but expect to depend on the textbook to actually know what's going on.
Her tests are easy. You can do well if you put A LOT of time in outside of class since her lectures are confusing and she sort of expects you to have a background in chem, which I didn't and most of my classmates did. A lot of self teaching and a tutor i recommend. Her curve is generous, and overall she is easy. I just had a rough start.
Professor Lopreore is a nice woman who wants her students to succeed. The key to this class is to ensure you do better than average. This is essential to at least making a B in the class. Also, go to office hours and show that you have put in effort into the class. Overall: not too bad of a class.
Lopreore is good to take if you just need a passing grade in chemistry but not actually learn anything. Her lectures are pretty boring . Her tests can be either very easy or very hard. I honestly think it depends on what kind of mood she's in when she writes it. Either way she adds pretty big curves to everything at the end.
Doesnt teach well at all. Probably best call for gen chem cause she has actually fair exams, but you have to learn everything yourself out of the textbook before exams. She has never taught me anything.
Do not take lopreore unless you want to teach yourself all of the material. Wish I had taken someone who was harder but that I actually learned from.
The tests are hit and miss. Sometimes the whole class fails or aces it. Go to office hours so she gets to know you. Definitely do the problems she assigns in the book.
Lectures feel rushed and she doesn't take time to explain anything. Everyone in class is pretty much in a haze of confusion the entire time. I had to basically teach myself for this course - online videos, tutoring sessions, and cramming before tests. Her tests are easier than most and she grades generously, but its still a joke class.
Lopreore is a really sweet woman who wants her students to succeed. She is one of those teachers who is very concerned with the effort the student is making. Holds weekly recitation sessions so that she can work through homework problems. Ask questions and make it known that you care about doing well. I would take her again.
Took her for CHEM I and II. Her class was super boring, but it was worth having a teacher who cared and who outlined what she expected of her students. She taught was was important and gave us homework problems that prepared us for her exams.
Amazing professor went from a C student to an A with her. Really one of a kind. Highly recommend. Best chem teacher at tulane. BY FAR.
terrible professor. teaches nothing, you have to learn it all by yourself or hope that you learned it all in high school. tests could be harder and are curved a lot, but if you want to learn chemistry don't take her
She is considered to be the easier chem teacher. She is not the best at teaching, but the class is not crazy hard like the other chem teachers. She is a nice person and will help you if needed however.
Professor Lopreore is so bland its almost as if she wants you to fall asleep in her lectures. She regurgitates the useful textbook info on the board which makes it easy to get notes but her tests are hit or miss. Most of the time half the class fails so her curve at the end of the semester can bump a D to a B+. Boring but gets the job done.
Even though the lectures for this class are dry and not helpful, the class is way easier when compared to the other chemistry professors. The class is also curved a lot which helps. She is very helpful during office hours if you go.
She's not an amazing teacher, but she definitely knows her stuff, even though she seems like she doesn't care most of the time. Super sweet and will make sure you end up with an okay grade at the end. She occasionally has pop quizzes, but they're so easy that there's no reason to even bother studying.
I can't stress enough how amazing she is. Definitely the best chemistry professor at Tulane. Very fair and understanding person. Super approachable. Go to her office hours! If she sees you trying, she will boost your grade. Fair tests. Do not slack off! Overall, she really made me love chemistry. TAKE HER!
Lopreore reads straight from the textbook. Her class is extremely boring and she's very disorganized. However, she can be very forgiving with grading and scales a lot.
Easiest teacher for chemistry, but does not explain any of the material and bases all of her tests on the textbook. Tests are easy but do not take her class if you want to learn chemistry or take a higher level of chem in the future. Curves a lot because everyone fails tests.
Lectures are straight from the book. The lectures are very unenthusiastic but she does know what she's talking about.
Professor Lopreore is one of the easier general chemistry professors. However; her lectures are not the best, and you may not learn as well as some of your peers in other chemistry classes. It is very helpful to attend office hours to get additional instruction on topics that she did not explain well in class.
Professor Lopreore is by far the best option for Chem 1070 here at Tulane. The lectures following the first few chapters are kind of hard to follow, and to do well you definitely have to supplement lectures with textbook readings. She is VERY helpful during office hours and is flexible with the times as well. Very caring about her freshman!
If you have to take chemistry at Tulane, take Lopreore. Warning, you have to teach yourself all the material, but the test questions are basically the suggested exercises and her tests are mostly straightforward. You won't learn anything from her but she is the easiest teacher at Tulane.
Courtney is the best chemistry teacher at Tulane. I would recommend going to her office hours. I found that they were way more helpful than her lectures. The test questions are very similar to the suggested problems she assigns for each chapter.
Lopreore seems pretty nonchalant during lectures, but if you go to her office hours, she's pretty helpful. Nice lady overall. Tests are similar to the textbook problems and are usually about 5 questions long. Out of all CHEM 1070 teachers, she's the easiest. However, she's not particularly funny or inspirational and you will have to teach yourself.
I took her for CHEM 1070 & 1080 and she is the easiest chemistry professor at Tulane. You have to read the textbook to understand the bulk of the material, but her tests are exactly like the suggested exercises in the textbook. During class she's pretty laid back and funny, but if you actually need help, she's always available during office hours.
Prof. Lopreore comes off as kind of awkward but definitely has her shining moments of comedic gold. Her lectures are pretty dry otherwise and she sometimes moves pretty fast without explaining things very well, but the tests are very reasonable and she gives a lot of extra credit opportunity.
the best!! She actually cares about her students and wants you to do well. You don't have to go to class, but she will help you out individually way more if you go to class/see her in office hours. I recommend getting to know her well in chem 1 so that she will help you out in chem 2. I got mono second semester and she worked with me so much!!
Lopreore is certainly an above average CHEM1070 professor, but that's mainly because the other professors are no good first semester. She teaches from the book verbatim and her tests are VERY SIMILAR to "suggested exercises" from the book that she posts online. She's very helpful at office hours!!
Professor Lopreore is the best. You definitely want her for both chem 1 and 2. Her tests are easy in that they are EXACTLY what you've been studying (for the most part). You can honestly get more from the book than in lecture, but she is a great teacher because of the easier tests and she is ALWAYS willing to help with ANYTHING. LOVE HER.
I recommend Lopreore out of all the chem teachers. She is really nice and curves a lot. Don't think this class is easy though- the tests are hard and kinda random. Overall, could have been worse.
Professor Lopreore is hands down the easiest chem teacher. Her test questions are literally straight out of the book practice problems. They aren't even the hard ones, they are the easy ones. If you put effort into understanding the material you will succeed. Her lectures are terrible though, just learn from the book. She also curved the class +5%
Professor Lopreore is definitley the best option for general chemistry at Tulane. I had her for chem 1070 and 1080. While lectures are pretty dry (probably because of the material) she is VERY helpful out of class. Probably one of my favorite professors at Tulane, Professor Lopreore goes the extra mile to show she cares about her students.
One of the easiest Chem professors at Tulane, mostly because her class moves pretty slowly. She writes out a lot on the board (most of which is general info that can be found in the textbook) and doesn't do very many practice questions. Expect to study a lot on your own. Very respected and often funny. You're pretty much only graded on tests.
The only not awful chem teacher at Tulane.
Lopreore's lectures are just her writing everything she says down, and she posts all the notes after class. Her tests are really manageable and easy to study for. She's not the most amazing professor, but she structures the class in a way that you can do well. She definitely wants her students to succeed (get an A).
Professor Lopreore really wants her students to do well, and she's also hilarious. You do need to work hard outside of class to understand the material and prepare for tests, but she is definitely your advocate, not your enemy throughout the semester. She does loads of bonus and curving at the end. TAKE HER FOR CHEM
BORING LECTURES. Literally sit in class in silence and watch her write out notes on the slide, then she reads them aloud, and repeat. Not engaging at all. She is very nice as a person and easy to access through office hours. So hard to be motivated to learn in this class bc the lectures put you to sleep.
Take Lopreore for Gen Chem because she is by far the easiest professor. Her lectures are quite dry, mostly because they are boring and move at a slow pace. If you took AP Chem, most of the class will be review, but expect to work harder if you have little high school chem background or if you haven't taken it in awhile.
Not a GREAT teacher but probably the best of Tulane's chem department. Her lectures are very dry and honestly not necessary because she posts everything online. The tests aren't too difficult but you need to be incredibly prepared. The class is curved massively which saved many from failing. Gives Kahoot quizzes but only for completion.
I don't think any of the chem professors at Tulane are that great, but Lopreore is definitely the most manageable. She is pretty bland in lecture and posts all the class notes anyways but she's great in office hours! If she can recognize your name, face, and effort come end of the semester, you'll be fine.
If you are a freshman and need Chem credit, TAKE HER over anyone else given the options currently. What sets her apart from all of the other profs- she genuinely cares about her students. She went through midterm grades and curved them individually to benefit each specific student. Nevertheless, chem is hard. But she wants YOU to succeed!
Taking a class with Prof. Lopreore is the best choice you can make for completing general chemistry requirements. Sometimes she can seem like she couldn't care less about the material or the class, but she really helps students out at the end of the semester. She does test review during class and lectures only on what you actually need to know.
She does a really great job; lectures were not too difficult to follow along in, she shows you how to do all of the homework problems, is really funny, and is just a really awesome person in general.
Courtney is the best gen chem professor, period. Although lectures are often boring, Courtney does teach well. Tests aren't super difficult -- just make sure to do the practice problems and check your answers with the solutions her or the SI posts. She sometimes does unannounced Kahoots for participation grade, so be wary of that.
Professor Lopreore is the best chem professor on campus. She loves her students, is very passionate about teaching, and wants you to pass. She notices who goes to class and takes note of who goes to the SI sessions. The class is test heavy, but there are multiple opportunities for extra credit. Lectures may be a bit boring, but hey, it's chemistry!
Lopreore truly cares about her students and goes above and beyond to help. She is always available to help and picks out very helpful SI's. She is definitely the best gen chem professor on campus. Don't just go to class and leave, actually get to know her because she really is the best
I hear she's the best chem teacher, so I'd advise taking her over others. Her tests are only 4 questions, so I'd finish them in 20 minutes. Pretty easy if you took AP Chem. 3 tests and she drops one. We also had quizzes on every chapter, but those were REALLY easy. Just don't rush and make dumb mistakes on tests.
best gen chem professor at tulane. wants her students to do well and her tests are fair.... and actually based on what she teaches.
Chemistry is hard, but Lop curves harder
Honestly the best choice you can get for a Gen Chem professor. Definitely not the greatest at teaching but curves are huge so passing shouldn't be a struggle for most people. Will not pass without doing the textbook problems though.
Lectures are really boring and it's a lot of self-learning based on practicing textbook problems, but she's the best genchem professor at Tulane. Take her over anyone else, but chem is still hard and you still need to put in the work
Hands down the best professor for Gen Chem at Tulane. Absolutely take her class if you can. Attendance isn't mandatory and she uploads her slides. If you practice the problems on her slides and do the examples from the book, you will get an A, especially since she curves the class.
She is the best option for chem teachers at Tulane. That being said, her lectures are boring and she doesn't tend to introduce concepts or explain them well in class. It's up to you to read/figure out the material for yourself. Office hours are helpful although her lectures really aren't. There were some unannounced kahoots for participation points
I've heard that Lop is the best chem professor at Tulane, but she still isn't great. Her lectures are boring, and it's left up to the student to figure out the concepts. You also won't know your grade until the end because there is a thick curve. How does the curve work? Nobody has any clue. I don't even think Lop knows.
Lopreore is a caring professor who does want her students to succeed. However the class is based primarily on tests with few questions, so small mistakes have large impacts. The final exam was very difficult and did not reflect the types of questions on other tests. She also holds office hours, but they're crowded. She may not get to all questions.
The chem department at Tulane simply sucks and the options for professors are not good. Better off taking her than the others. Her tests are only 4 questions and extremely difficult but she curves like crazy. The quizzes are super easy. She reads off the slides but is very available for office hours.
Lops class has gotten harder. I took her fall semester 2019, and her tests are more difficult than they used to be for sure. There are 4 problems each worth about 15 points. So u study a lot of concepts to only be tested on a little of it. However, she does curve heavy. I went to her office hours a lot, and i got a thick curve. She deff does care.
Chem department at Tulane is rough but she is your best option. Class isn't mandatory/that helpful, you'll need to self-teach most material/problems. Hard, high margin-of-error tests, but they are curved. Go to office hours- can be helpful, but they're crowded. Sub-optimal class, just have to get by. Won't know your grade all semester-She'll curve.
While she does curve, her class has definitely gotten harder, so don't listen to the reviews for her before this year. Most material you have to learn by yourself. Do the book problems or you won't pass any of her tests since they're 60 points each with only four problems. You definitely won't fail her class, but don't expect an A with her curve.
Professor Lopreore is the best option for chemistry at Tulane. To do well in this class, you need to do the suggested exercises and go to her office hours. The tests and final exam are kinda tough, but everything is curved based on the class average.
Dr. Lopreore was a fantastic professor, and is most definitely the best professor for Gen Chem. She is very much dedicated to her students, and cares about them as people. Went to bat for our class to the head of the department. When the lab sections were a disaster. Dry lecture, but applicable. Attendance quizzes but super nice and an overall :)
Prof. Lopreore is the best option for Gen Chem. However, she has gotten harder in the past year, so don't trust prior notions of how easy she is. Her lectures are dry but from the txbk. Doing the practice problems are ESSENTIAL to passing. Her exams are only four questions, so error is very easy. She curves based on the class average.
Lopreore is by far the best genchem professor at Tulane. She won't baby you/raise your grade if she can clearly see that you're not putting in the effort (which makes a lot of people mad lol). But if you put in the effort and go to office hours, she will really advocate for you. I definitely recommend taking her over the other genchem profs.
Tbh, she is the most straightforward chemistry professor at Tulane. If you have background knowledge you should be okay. You definitely need to work hard just like other classes, but her expectations are clear. She is not getting harder! Students are not working hard enough! Also, other profs are not that much harder. Just worse teachers.
Main problem is boredom. She is completely disengaging. The material is not actually that bad if you spend some time studying/ doing practice problems that aren't mandatory, but necessary to do well. The old 'easy A' rep is not true anymore, and the tests reflect that but not the lectures. Quizzes are easy.
Old reputation is no longer true, you really have to work for this class. Do the integrative TB problems not just the ones she assigns. She curves but doesn't always explain how she does before the end of the semester it which is confusing. Eh, all I really have to say is she's okay. I wouldn't fight to get her over the other profs.
Tests were crazy difficult because it was integrative across chapters, so it was almost impossible to prepare. The suggested exercises didn't resemble the test at all. Makes the test last minute so she doesn't know what to review during the tests. Not a good curve at all. She definitely isn't the best professor to take chemistry with.
Lopreore changed her entire grading and assessment policy by the time I got to her. She explains concepts well. Writes down everything she says in class and posts it online. The problems she does in class are nothing like what comes in the exam. Do the suggested exercises. There are definitely easier professors for Get Chem.
She's fine. Not worth fighting to get, but an okay prof. Tests are only 4 questions, so margin of error is high. Makes tests the morning of so it is hard to know what to focus on. Tests are not very similar to suggested exercises, involve a lot of critical thinking. She cares about her students so get to know her. Gen Chem is tough no matter what.
Please dont be confused by earlier posts. Lopreore USED to be an easy prof for chem, but she changed her grading style this year. Comparing this year to last, she now gives 10 quizzes (not Kahoots like last year) and the tests are significantly more difficult (I studied using the ones from last year, which were useless). She's the best of the worst
Take someone else for gen chem. Lopreore gives the hardest tests and is completely unenthusiastic about teaching.
alright listen shes not perfect - but she does let us use our textbooks for our tests so she is the clear winner there
ok i take back what i said earlier. the textbook does not help and she gave me a 38% on the test when i was POSITIVE that i would get at least in the 90s. the class average was a 61%, which is being curved to a B. I took AP Chem before this class so it shouldnt have been hard. The grading criteria was unclear and no partial credit given.
If you take the class prepare to lose points based solely on the wording of questions. Tests are 4 questions and 90% of the grade. She doesn't tell you the curve so you have no idea of your true grade going into final.
Very hard class but she is definitely the best gen chem professor at Tulane. Tests are rough (class average once was 55%) and only four questions long but the tests are open note which helps a bit but not as much as you would think.
Doesn't explain topics well, just expects you to understand everything she says. Need to read the textbook and do ALL practice problems. Tests are extremely difficult/often don't reflect class & practice problems, but there's a massive curve. Entire grade based on 3 exams, 1 dropped. Still the best chem prof. Go to class- random attendance checks.
Honestly, get ready to teach yourself the entirety of chemistry I hope you took AP Chemistry beforehand because thatll really help you. This class is 200% self study. Lope is cool; get to know her in office hours and shell be more understanding with you. Tests are hard; show up to class because therell be random Kahoots for participation. GL!!
She's honestly plain unpredictable, or at least this semester she was since the exams were online. Exams were much harder, which she admitted. Grading criteria/how she curves is unclear. Good thing is during office hours you can get to know her and ask questions about previous tests--sometimes she gives points back. She's friendly if she knows you.
I cant believe shes a professor. Dont take this class . U can make an f and itll curve to a C meanwhile if u have a b+ u wont get a curve at all. She doesnt teach or help only good part of this class was the TA. Shes not interested in teaching u, she replied with Im on vacation when she put in our final grades. Hope she had a bad vacation
awful. Tests are 4 questions and 90% of your grade. They are extremely difficult and don't reflect class or practice problems at all. Lectures are disengaging and you'll have to teach yourself everything. The curve was not helpful if you were or above avg. She does not show compassion during or outside the class. I do not recommend her at all.
WORST professor I have ever encountered. She's condescending, unhelpful & SOOO disengaging. Clearly does not care about students whatsoever. Curve was an absolute joke. She posted our final grades without reviewing the final exam and sending us our graded exams. Responded to every email about the final with "I'm on vacation sorry".
I'd give her a zero if I could. She's a HORRIBLE teacher. Lectures are her j reading straight from the textbook. Tests are unpredictable and same w/ the curve. **Don't read any reviews pre-covid** Her online exams are VERYY difficult. Our SI saved us and should take credit for teaching the class. Hardest/worst gen chem prof this semester
Very rarely was partial credit given, a large curve was given at the end to the semester but there was no explanation as to how she did it. You are left in the dark most of the semester and do not know your actual grade until the day they are due in Gibson. Tests are intentionally created extremely difficult to allow barely anyone to pass.
The whole semester I didn't have a single clue where I stood because the grading, curve, instruction, EVERYTHING was so unclear. Not knowing what your grade is until the end doesn't allow you to bounce back or even ask her for help since you don't know if you even need it. her tests are worded so confusing making it impossible to even pass them
She amped up the difficulty of the class by like 300% due to COVID. I understand that given the open-book, open-note (and open-internet, for some cheaters) nature of the class she needs to make questions that we can't find solutions for online, but that also means that the questions on tests are nothing like what we covered in class/is in the book.
Do not listen to pre-covid reviews. Professor Lopreore has no respect for students and the fact that quarantine is mandatory. Her lectures are slow and teach only the basics, while her tests were so difficult the SI couldn't do them. She promised to curve but only did if you were failing. Studying for weeks still won't teach you what is on the test
This is the hardest class I've ever taken. Now that we're back to closed note/textbook exams, the exams are sooooo much harder. She does not give us enough time to finish our exams which leads to the terrible averages on all the tests. She also has been hard to reach outside office hours and class. She is one of the better chem prof but still bad
Tests got SO much easier now that tests are in person. Study and do all practice problems, and attend SI sessions, and you'll be fine. Tests aren't easy but not impossible. Graded on 3 tests, one dropped, and a final. Definitely the best choice for gen chem
I had Lopreore for CHEM 1070 and she was not horrible. This semester has been much harder and it feels as if she is less engaged. For example, last year she would give us about a minute to do part of a problem then walk us through what we should do, now she just does them and the entire class is watching her do problems with little explanation.
During Covid when tests were online, she was awful and very unfair. Now that tests are in-person, they are very fair and extremely similar to the practice problems. No doubt you will have to work hard and do suggested exercises to do well, but it isn't impossible. Go to office hours and you will see that she does care about her students.
90% of the grade is tests. She does not prepare you well and will ask test questions on material not covered.
Lopreore is the best of bad options. I think that she's a great professor and she has taught me a lot about chem. However, the class is very difficult and if you aren't ready to work hard, don't take Dr. Lopreore. She also curves so that the average of every test becomes a B-, so if you stay above average, you'll have a decent grade which is nice.
Gen chem in general sucks. No one wants to take it. But at tulane, TAKE LOPREORE. The other professors actually suck, they are horrible. Her exams are difficult. But if you work hard, read the textbook and do problems you will be okay. She posts suggested exercises for every chapter WITH AN ANSWER KEY!!!
I've had Dr. Lopreore for 2 semesters. First semester was pretty rough because of difficult online tests. However, this semester has been easier to handle, much more fair, and doable. People who complain don't do suggested exercises or go to office hours. Take her and you will see she is the best option and notices when you put in effort. Worth it.
Good teacher but tests are impossible. Gotten a lot harder since previous reviews. Rlly need to work for it. Good curve but test questions are harder then practice problems
She is the best teacher for gen chem and if you go to SI sessions, do the suggested exercises you will be okay. Her test is verbatim the suggested exercises!!! The last class average was 42% and got curved to an 80% if that says anything.
Going into her class, I heard she was one of the better chem professors and I agree. Her exams are pretty tough but she curves the tests well. As long as you attend class and do the suggested exercises/prepare for exams, you will do well. Class is easily structured and you have two tests with one you are able to drop plus a final.
Lopreore is a mediocre chemistry professor. The lectures are pretty boring and the tests are difficult. She lectures and does many in class examples to ensure we understand the content and gain knowledge on the subject. General chemistry is never super interesting, but she is a fine professor overall and probably the best option for Gen Chem 1.
She's an ok professor. Her lectures are fine, but you'll need to practice outside of class to really understand the material. Your grade mainly relies on your tests, so beware of that, but there is a curve. Go to SI sessions; they're helpful. Overall, not a bad choice for CHEM.
Lopreore is... fine. For an intro chem class, she's the best option from a pool of mediocrity. People who took AP Chem in high school did pretty well, while for students where this was their first real experience with chemistry, this class was a struggle. I will say she did her best to make class easier after Hurricane Ida and COVID, so that's nice
Take Dr. Lopreore for Gen Chem! The test curves, drop tests, and drop participation scores make this class very accommodating. Dr. Lopreore really tries to meet students where they're at, and test questions are straight from the textbook examples. Although the lectures aren't always stellar, she works out examples- this class is the best choice.
By far the best option for gen chem. She teaches good enough for you to do well, but if you want to be confident you'll need to do some self-studying. Impressively accessible for the number of students she has. She also was incredibly generous with the curve she gave us this semester, more so than any other class I've ever taken.
Take Lopreore for Gen Chem if you actually want to learn something in class and want to be able to get an A. Her lectures are mediocre, but if you show up to class, take notes, and do the practice problems she assigns, you will be fine. By far the best option, was very understanding after Ida
Professor Lopreore is average, but she is the best gen chem professor at Tulane. She covered all of the necessary material in class and her tests were fair. While the majority of students still failed every test, the curve was very generous every time. The best way to do well is by doing textbook practice problems and using class time as a review.
Dr Lopreore was a really amazing choice for me for Gen Chem I. I was able to get an A by attending every class (get those participation points!), skimming over her slides before class and putting in minimal effort. Definitely know your capacities and work to match it. She sometimes lifts questions from the textbook so extra practice from it helps!
She is a nice person and has generous curves but it is because she is not a great lecturer. Do all of the suggested exercises, many test questions are that exact format. Most stressful class ever. Take advantage of tutoring and all SI sessions. If you can get another teacher, do it, but if you are with her aim above the curve and you will be fine.
She's definitely your best option for this class since Tulane's chem department is not great. Her exam questions are copied and pasted from the textbook word for word so do the textbook problems she assigns and this will not be a hard class for you. Show up to class cause she gives pop kahoots that will bring your grade down A LOT if you get a 0.
Professor Lopreore is really not a bad professor. She gets a bad rep on campus, but I personally did not mind her. She really helped when my grade got messed up and always answered emails. The chem department at Tulane really isn't fantastic, but she's the best CHEM1070 professor we got
if you're taking gen chem 1 then lopreore is probably your best option. go to the lectures bc she randomly does participation checks. do the practice problems she posts bc they're similar to the tests but just be prepared to teach yourself a good amount. tulane chem department sucks
Lopreore didn’t seem very interested during lectures, but they were straightforward and recorded. Problems always explained, overarching concepts less so. Answer keys always on canvas and tests pretty straightforward. She went very easy on us exam wise I think due to hurricane Ida. Probably one of the best professors in the department.
Lopreore is probably the best professor for CHEM. If you do the suggested exercises and understand how to do them, you''re good to go for exams. She is kind of predictable in what she is going to test
Definitely the best of the chem professors you could take at Tulane. If you attend class her lectures are great and she actually teaches the material instead of just lecturing from the textbook. However, if you don't attend class you won't fail if you study the text book and do all the suggested exercises. 3 midterms and a final.
Dr. Lopreore is a funny and chill prof who embodies the comedy of bone deep tiredness that defines college. Show up to class, there are participation quizzes. Exams are hard, but partial credit is plentiful. Curves aren't always clear, but they are generous. She will regrade if you can prove something is wrong. Talk to her, she won't bite.
She did a great job of working problems out on the board/showing examples during class. Some questions on the exam were as expected; however, there were always 1-2 INSANELY difficult questions. She does give fair partial credit and curves generously though. I would say not a perfect teacher but definitely one of the better/best options for gen chem
Difficult exams, but she curves so that the class average is around a B or B-. Her office hours are helpful as well.
Her lecture style solely consists of handwriting notes on the board (in contrast to showing a slideshow), which takes up time that could be used to do more practice problems in class. She aims for her students to make a 50% average on exams, but she curves well and gives lots of partial credit. She is the best option for CHEM1070.
Lopreore is pretty good however, on each of her test there is always one or two hard questions. But there is a nice curve to each of her test and a lot of p credit.
If you go to class and take notes during her lectures you should do well in the class. She gives a drop test and holds review sessions before exams. Overall a very understanding and engaging professor.
Self-study is key to passing this course; doing practice problems and attending SI sessions greatly help. She grades attendance based on sporadic kahoots throughout the semester. The problem arises with the lectures themselves, as they go by slowly, with her giving us unneeded information, which does not help when taking her exams.
I took her class because I knew she would be the best option. Exams are difficult and the test questions don't reflect the easy material we learn in class. Her old tests are easier than the ones she gives now. She aims for the class average to be a 50% on each exam but curves based on z score which will give you a few extra points. I recommend.
Dr. Lopreore is a solid choice for both semesters of Gen Chem. While class can drag on at times, she explains the concepts well, and gives fair test questions. You definitely need to spend some time outside of class learning the material because you will not pass by doing the bare minimum.
Its hard to pick a good chem professor here because they all have different pros and cons, but I think Dr. Lopreore is a very solid option for both chem 1 and 2. You have to show up (pop quizzes on kahoot) but she also records the lectures and offers zoom. Do as much practice bc she doesn't give you much to work w in class besides whiteboard notes.
Her lectures are not horrible but the test have a few questions that are ridiculously hard. She aims for a 50% on her tests and does not curve until the end of the year, so you never know what grade you have in the class. There aren't many better options for chem 1070.
Lopreore is definitely a safe option for gen chem. She's not super exciting, but her lectures are straightforward and her tests fair. It's difficult to know how her curve works but she is great at telling you what will be on the test - I recommend doing suggested exercises and practice tests!
Definitely the best prof for Chem 1, but that doesn't mean she's amazing. Her lectures give the bare minimum of what you actually have to learn and don't really reflect her tests which are simply just unfair. However, she apparently has a really good curve. She gives random kahoots that help your grade a bit, and I mean a bit. She's good not great.
She is bad at lecturing and her exams are only a few questions & worded extremely confusingly. The concepts are not difficult but the tests are written to ensure a 50-65% average. The average is curved to a B-, so there's that. Do suggested exercises and go to SI/review sessions. She's considered the best gen chem professor at Tulane idk why tho
Having not taken AP chem, this class was very difficult. test were always harder than in class questions, but doing suggested exercises almost daily in textbook helped. 3 tests (lowest score dropped) and a final make up bulk of grade with 20% being easy "quizzes". She's definitely smart, but can get quite monotone. Lectures/ notes were also posted
Tests are veryyyyy difficult but she curves nicely at the end of the semester. You get one drop test and lots of partial credit for problems. Go to office hours and SI sessions. Be prepared to see a low grade in canvas for the entire semester... I had a "D-" the whole semester and finished the class with a B-. Best Chem 1 professor option
I found this class really difficult because the tests were so difficult compared to the assigned practice problems and the only thing you're graded on is the tests and maybe a couple days of participation (kahoots). If you study everyday, you should be fine, but go to office hours and SI sessions.
Class is very lecture-heavy. You can always join lectures on zoom if you are absent so you can get participation credit on pop-quizzes. Tests are long and difficult but she gives decent partial credit.
This class is very difficult and the tests are long and challenging, but she gives decent partial credit. Always go to the lecture in case of pop quizzes but she does post everything online so take advantage of slides and supplemental questions. Do as many practice problems as possible and you will survive.
Chem 1 is a pretty hard class, but Lopreore is definitely the best for Chem 1. She's a pretty fair grader and gives a decent amount of partial credit, and a solid curve for all the tests and final exam. She gives a textbook PDF but I only used it a couple times. Beware of random attendance checks with Kahoots, it can lower your grade if you skip.
Chem is hard but if you study it is possible to do well. First semester we had a drop test and a generous curve, both of which were taken away second semester making the class way harder. Lectures are mostly just practice problems but you have the option to go to class on zoom and all sessions are recorded.
Had her for Gen Chem 1 and 2. Her class is very accessible (she allows you to attend classes on Zoom), and there is almost no homework at all. Her lectures are very clear, and she is good at teaching the material in an engaging way. She is also very personable, and is fun to be around, which can't be said about other Tulane chemistry professors.
Curve was very helpful when I took her, but I think it depends on the class. Her office hours helped me a lot and she is very chill. If you're friendly with her, she will be friendly with you. Practice problems are very important, do them! She uses them on the exam as well as class examples.
I took Lopreore for Gen Chem 1 and 2, and I enjoyed the class once I adapted to her teaching style. Go to class, practice the concepts as you go, and attend SI sessions. Only thing I didn't enjoy was that she repeatedly moved her exams to the same days as other big pre-med exams (cell, genetics).
get ready to move fast, but she is a great professor. despite moving quickly, her lectures are straightforward and as long as you keep up you'll understand. the exams are similar to what we go over in class, just make sure to practice a lot
Her lectures can get boring but are extremely helpful in learning class material. Her tests can be very hard, but she is a fair grader so you'll be saved by the curve. Can be approachable for certain things, but can be inconsistent in what she allows.
Lopreore makes the tests extremely hard to the point where you are doing voodoo math and making up your own chemistry. Her test questions don't follow the easy practice problems she does during class. Lopreore gets in a silly mood and likes to make her test averages in the 60s then gets mad when the class average is lower than expected. got trauma
I really love professor lopreore. the class material is very hard but she only goes through problems in class instead of the conceptual work. usually have plenty of time for her tests and she grades leniently. shes actually a sweetheart and is a really cool person and i recommend going to office hours. tests are always curved to a B-
chem is hard!! but! dr. lopreore teaches by explaining the concept and then doing a few example questions. suggested exercises are similar to test questions. she is a wonderful teacher and sweetheart. if you do the suggested exercises and watch a few videos about the concept, you will do well. love her.
Professor Lopreore is great. If you are engaged during her lectures you will learn the material. The only issue is that the exams are nothing like the in-class problems and suggested exercises in the book. So, many people do poorly on the exams. There is a curve though. She is the best option for gen chem 1 and 2 if you actually want be challenged.
She gives a very generous curve, and when she grades your tests, she gives generous partial credit. I recommend going to every one of her classes, even if it's an 8 AM chem class; believe me, it will pay off. Overall, she is a great teacher, and I would highly recommend you take her.
generous curve but pay attention and take notes. go to office hours just to chat and that will help your curve
I loved Lopreore for gen chem! I took her both semesters (gen chem 1 & 2) and found that she was really clear about content for tests and grading criteria. Most of her lectures are just her doing practice problems (sometimes a Kahoot) but I found them helpful. Just do the suggested exercises and you'll do great
I love her! She is kind, interesting, and just an excellent human being! Her tests can be tricky, so make sure to do the recommended practice problems available in the textbook. I ended up bombing the first tests and acing the last tests/final to get an average grade. Only change? I started working practice problems daily.
Honestly, not the worst but not the worst. She has three midterms and that is all that the course is graded on. Make sure to be in class on the kahoot days because your attendance is only counted on the 4 days she decides to do a kahoot.
First semester chemistry was very easy, but once I took her class I was completely lost. There is no way the class test average can be cut in half and for it to be entirely the student's fault. Even though I was above average for her class, my grade dropped my GPA significantly. I would rather take anyone else
good luck
She's awesome! Tests are doable.
Her class was bleh. She talks to herself for 50 mins. I did not really understand much, but she was a cool professor and knew her stuff.
People hate her but she's the best you will get from a chemistry teacher at Tulane. Her tests are confusing but she's nice with partial credit. Honestly failed her first exam and have an okay grade anyways since she curves to a B-. Prepare to teach yourself everything. Go to office hours if she likes you she gives more partial credit. Very sweet.
Dr. lopreore was hardly ever there, she holds almost all of her office hours online because she is a hypochondriac and insane. Though attendance is mandatory, class time is not spent well because she gets distracted so easily. The most reliable part of the course is her SI's
she ruined my life tbh
Lecture style was performing problems in class and then going over specifics. Took me the first test to get into the swing of things. Advice - do the suggested exercises in the textbook! I didn't my first exam and got an F but I did them for the other tests and now I have a B- so it obviously helps.
Dr. Lopreore was ok. She was very disorganized. Our first test didn't even happen because she didn't print enough exams. Lectures consist of us going through problems. ALWAYS DO THE SUGGESTED EXERCISES. She gets her test questions straight from them and simply changes the numbers. She's not great but she is the best Chem professor at Tulane.
She's pretty chill but her lectures can be boring but she does randomly count attendance so you should probably go. Gen chem is a lot of self studying so don't expect too much from the lectures. She's helpful outside of class and an interesting person to talk to.
Dr. Lopreore is a decent professor and her tests are pretty predictable, especially when you study with the suggested exercises. Make sure to attend lectures, as she oftens give hints as to what is going to be on the tests. She has office hours, which she is pretty accessible in.
Lopreore is the best Chem teacher you can have at Tulane. Her lectures can be a little boring as she's just writing out definitions and showing examples but you should copy those notes and examples down. Do EVERY single suggested exercise she posts. They are very reflective of what the test is like. She's very easy to talk to if you have questions.
DO NOT take her class. She grades students who took her summer session very easy but takes of random points for students she doesn't know. She showed up to proctor 1 exam the whole semester & clearly did not care about her students at all.She didn't print enough exams for our first exam causing our final to be worth 50% of our grade which was evil.
Pf. Lopreore is an icon. While she has a mysterious immune system (she's sick a lot), she is very caring and loves to chat one-on-one!! Her teaching style is okay, but she is very forgiving on test grading. I recommend attending every class and participating. The class is meant to weed people out but if you stick with it you will be fine.
She is probably the best of the worst for tulane chem professors. If you do all the suggested exercises and watch youtube videos to understand the concepts, you should be able to do well in the class. I did spent A LOT of time studying for this class, and she does not explain concepts very well. Come to class because there are pop quizzes.
I like Dr. Lopreore as a person, but not as a professor. Her lectures weren't interesting and she didn't put much effort into them. I had to read the textbook to understand the content. We ended up being behind all the other chemistry classes and going into chem 1080 after taking her class was a difficult adjustment.
If you need to take chem, I would try to take her class. She is sweet but sometimes forgets that what she is teaching isn't common sense. There tends to be a pretty heavy curve in her class every semester, and you are graded on 3 tests and 1 final exam. Read the textbook and go to the SI sessions.
Lopreore is the best chem prof at Tulane. She is very understanding and kind. If she knows you the class will be much easier for you. Do all the suggested questions that she posts they are very representative of what the exam will be like. Go to every class because she might do pop hat which is just for attendance purposes. Lover her!
I would say that I was an average student handling a lot of things on my plate when taking her. For a gen chem professor she was good, but not great.bShe does take into account if you go to class, and if you participate during class. Just be on her good side and you will do well (aside from doing the work ofc).
as a person, lopreore is so nice, however, i don't find her to be a good teacher. her method of teaching is doing problems on the board that we are expected to understand. while she may have experience in chem for years, we do not. her exams vary in difficulty, i'd recommend to always be over prepared. the class is curved but don't count on it
Don't expect to learn any chemistry from the lectures. If you are on her good side and do the practice problems, you'll be fine. Her test difficulty varies which screwed me. She does get randomly sick... Take her for gen chem because the other professors are worse or racist.
Lop is likely your best option for a CHEM1080. Her TA's grade very harshly, but if you meet with her, she will usually give you back some points. Still, she is a pretty tough grader. If you reach out to her and show that you care about the class, there is a chance you might end with a better grade than expected. Curves to B-.
Dr. Lopreore is the best chem professor to take. Her lectures are clear, but her tests vary in difficulty. She does curve to a B-, so you just have to beat the curve. Your grade is based pretty much on three tests and a final. Make sure to do the suggested exercises to study for the test!
Professor Lopreore can be hit-or-miss, but attending class and doing the suggested practice problems is key. unstuck ai helped me stay on top of the material too - a great supplement alongside the textbook.
Not the best, but not the worst either. Tough class and she could be better but overall not unhappy
Class grade is based on 3 tests and a final exam + a one question quiz every night before class that eventually totals to an additional test grade. Chem is hard, she does well explaining. Go to class and SI sessions
Chem is a notorious class. It's gonna be a lot - it is what it is. Lopreore is probably the best professor for it but it still required a lot of self studying. I never attended SI/office hours and was fine but it depends on how you learn. If you had a decent HS chem teacher you'll be fine. Hint: don't buy the textbook it's on her Canvas on the DL
I felt like I had to teach myself the class, but the curves help. Attending the lectures are good because she goes over how to do each problem in a very comprehensive way, but she doesn't explain the context of the problems.
Her review sessions on the weekends are very helpful. She gives credit for kahoots. Good professor if you are in it for the grade, not if you want to actually know the material
Professor Lopreore was a pretty good teacher. The chemistry department at Tulane isn't exceptional, but she is your best bet. Tests make up 75% of your grade.
Her 3 midterms make up most of your grade + final. Her lectures just go over the chapter readings from the textbook and if you didn't read it then your lost. You pretty much teach yourself everything just to pass the midterms.
meh she's alright
Best of the worst. Monotonous and has a mysterious immune system. I think she forgets that we don't know chemistry as well as she does. Nice woman though. Class comprises of three exams (all written responses), a final, and take home canvas quizzes.
Class is extremely test heavy, leaving you no room to make mistakes on any exams. She does grade on a curve though.
This class isn't particularly hard, but you really have to know the material well. The way Prof. Lopreore teaches chemistry is more like a math class than a science class. Do the practice problems even if you feel like you already know them, one slip up on an exam is the end of your grade; graded on 3 midterms and 1 final, hw is 17% of your grade.
Supposed to be one of the better gen chem professors. The class doesn't require much effort besides studying for exams. Her tests are heavily based on your problem-solving skills, making them very hard. One of the benefits of taking her is that she doesn't do recitation, so all exams are in class. I think scheduling one-on-one office hours helped.
Lopreore is probably your best bet for CHEM1070. The tests are pretty difficult but you can do well if you do all of the suggested exercises and practice problems provided.
She's definitely one of the better chem prof. at Tulane. She only has tests and quizzes both tests weigh a lot more so review everyday.
Prob best option for gen chem. She's very dry and kinda funny. Her exams are usually in class with 4-5 problems that are more problem-solving based than conceptual. Doesn't use the 6pm testing block. If you get on her good side with 1:1 office hours, she'll show you what to study for the exam, and some people get an extra grade boost.
Grades by 4 exams, none dropped. She is very dry and I never get a good grasp of the materials from lectures. I ended up learning most of the material independently- which becomes very frustrating and time-consuming. Her exams are not that difficult if you understand the material and are similar to the practice problems. curves avg to a B-
People sometimes describe Lopreore as the "best of the worst" compared to the other chem profs at Tulane, but the difference between her and them is ASTRONOMICAL, and I dont think she deserves to be described in this way. Her lectures are clear and her tests are completely fair. Just do the suggested exercises and youll do great. I rly liked her!
This class is super doable and without question Lopreore is the best gen chem prof. Sometimes she doesnt explain well, but if you go to her office hours she is very patient and will explain well. Def try and get on her good side its possible she will grade you better. Overall nice woman and fairly good teacher.
Lopreore is not accessible outside of class at all and doesn't realize that the things that are common sense to her are not to the students. She doesn't have office hours and is really hard to meet with. Exams are everything. She curves but she doesn't teach at all, so if you aren't good at chem you won't get it. I would take Tahir.
idk why some of the reviews are so positive. always has an attitude when asked questions and exams are everything. claimed to curve each exam but it's all curved once at the end. i had to teach myself bc she assumes difficult concepts are common sense. exam questions are also way harder than practice ones.herpersonal lifedefinitelytookatollonher
my experience w lopreore was the worst. i worked extremely hard for this class but still didn't do well bc she does not teach chem concepts well, only problem solving. passive aggressive, inaccessible outside of class, and her health seriously affects her ability to teach. posts answer keys with mistakes for the suggested exercises as well.
