This guy was terrible. The WORST math teacher that I ever had. I'm sure he meant well, but he wasn't the greatest teacher. I couldn't understand any of his lecture, and my TA was absolutely awful. I got B's in my previous quarters, and failed this quarter because of the terrible teaching. Midterm, Final, homework and quiz grades.

Prof. Benham's class is definitely hard. His lectures are unintelligible: it is hard to understand what he is trying to say, and his handwriting is hard to read. My discussion TA was not bad. The midterms and quizzes are not very difficult, maybe that's the only hope in this class. This is a class in which you need to study on your own.

Benham was lacking in his lecturing abilities. Some of his lectures made sense, but parts were overly theoretical and he didn't explain them. I found myself lost much of the time. He kept tests pretty basic. Still, final is much more challenging! Cares about his students but has little or no presentation skills.

He might be a genius in math, but he doesn't know a thing about teaching. He relies a lot on the book and his TAs, and his examples from lecture aren't really relevant to his homework assignments. In addition, his exams are hell on earth; he dings you for every minute detail. Enough said.

Doing homework is very important for this class, especially since the midterms and final contain very similar questions. There were no quizzes in discussion, only group worksheets. The only downside is that Prof. Benham only uses blackboards during lecture, so filling in notes after missing class is a pain.

Professor Benham is such a nice man! He is very helpful and you can tell he truly cares about his students. His midterms and final consisted of problems similar to the homework and practice exams - overall, I would recommend him

I did not go to lecture, but I read the chapters, did homework, and studied off of the practice exam. Easier than other MAT17 professors! Class is not curved. No homework to turn in. He is kind and approachable. Better to ask TA for help.

He wrote notes during his lectures but his writing was very hard to read and a lot of the time it did not make a lot of sense. He went very quickly and did not check to make sure we were understanding. I had to read the textbook to get clarification. He gives 3 midterms and the final and that's basically your entire grade.

Professor Benham is such a sweet person! Lectures were hard to follow sometimes but tests were very similar to the practice exams. His office hours are super helpful and he makes a really huge effort to help you. If you understand the homework and practice exams, you will do well.

Lectures can be quite confusing, but the tests are fair. He provides practice tests and the questions on the test are just like the hw. Just study the hw and make sure you know how to do ALL the problems and youll be fine.

He is a good professor, but I became lazy and stopped going to lectures don't be like me that is how I got behind. His tests are super easy just do the homework and do the practice test he posts. If you understand the math this class is an easy A.

WONDERFUL PROF take Benham!! An actual angel. Very considerate. I could rave ab this prof. As a BioSci BA I'm done w math after this but if he taught 17C I would take it. 3 midterms but all just like the practice exams. Tbh lectures never helped though: goes fast but reviews a lot if you didn't pay attention before (would rate him 5 otherwise!!)

Think he's changed a few things recently: must turn in all hw on day of final (I live 30 mins off campus & forgot part of it but he let me turn it in later that day) but only 5 qs total are graded for 50 pts. Posts all notes. Disc work sheets worth only 2 pts but are easy & can redo them for full credit. Uses real calc to bio examples in lec.

Benham is a sweet professor. He's not the best lecturer and can sometimes go pretty fast but the class is very homework and test based. Tests are extremely fair especially if you do the homework problems and really understand how to do them. Practice exams are reflective of the exams themselves. Benham is a solid choice and the best 17B professor.

Benham is a great professor. There are three midterms and a final, all of which are very fair and reflective of homework problems. Lecture is honestly pointless though. But as long as you understand the homework and practice tests, you will do well in the class.

Prof. Benham was a very bad lecturer. Many times throughout lectures I would stop taking notes and just sit there because he goes so fast, but he posts all the notes on canvas. However, his tests were simple because they are exactly like the practice tests. If you stay caught up on the homework and do the practice tests you should pass.

He has a very monotone voice and if you don't try to focus, his lectures aren't very engaging. He is a nice man overall and knows his math. He sometimes doesn't write down all the steps but he'll verbally explain it so you should pay attention to that. He has worksheets that we completed in discussions. They were hard but you are in groups

He was always available to hold a meeting to ask any questions outside of class. His midterm was very fair on the questions it asked. Supplemented his teaching with MIT opencourseware. Feedback on homework was great, and it was a good system to have the HW due the night of the lecture to force students to be on top of their studies.
