Horrible teacher. I had his 50 minute class he would spend most of the time talking about other things that didn't have to to with the chapter. You have to teach yourself everything in the class because if not you will fail. He only gives you 50 minutes for the tests that are 20 questions each all calculations. Do not take chemistry with him!
DO NOT TAKE HIM! I have always been a good student. I got a 4.0 my first semester. Then I took his class and you literally have to teach yourself everything. He is barely any help because he doesn't know how to put things in simple terms. I studied every day of the week and on the weekends. I got a 60 and 70 on 2 tests and had to withdraw!!
Had him for 1211. We took our 2nd test on Feb 28. The last day to withdraw without penalty was March 13. He waited until the night of March 12 to post test grades. He never responded to my emails asking whether I had a chance of passing and he wasn't in his office to talk to. He also didn't grade any of the homework before the withdrawal date.
Very rude and doesnt answer questions without catching an attitude. His tests are from the test bank in the book. The tests are easier than expected but have a lot of calculations and he cuts the class short (which makes no sense). He is not the best teacher, but if you find a good SI leader or study group you should do well. He drops lowest test
Horrible professor. Stand-offish and is not willing to answer questions. He does not follow the grading points on the labs and will slash off points that are double the amount written on the lab. BEWARE, DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Simple as this: If you are really good at chem and you understand concepts and math, then take him and just dont really come to class. He is confusing, and doesnt help much. He will take ALL of lecture time to do 3 problems. Id rather read my book. Drops the lowest test grade. 10 homeworks, 4 tests, 1 final. Very hard. 20 question multiple choice
Thankfully I only have him for lab. Pay attention to what he says and writes otherwise he'll look at you stupid if you ask. He changes the procedures often and will go by his own grading and not ones listed on lab report (if he feels like something is worth more, than its weighed more). Condescending at times. Rushes you out of lab. Overall he's ok
Avoid him at all costs! He expects you to already know chemistry. His lectures are confusing and not helpful at all. You will have to read the text book for every section. His exams ar much harder than the material covered in lectures.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Expects you to have Chapters 1-3 read before the 1st day of class. Does a really good curve on tests bc everyone ends up failing them. Only have 5 tests in the class and he does not prepare you for the final. Drop this class and find another professor because he is no help!
Avoid avoid avoid. Curves grades A LOT and gives easy homework grades but if you're looking to learn anything about chemistry, DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Not such a great teacher. He graded lab reports the way he wanted, but I actually liked his grading scale better. Wasn't a hard lab. He was no help though. I avoided asking him anything. He would just make me more confused. I had an A+ going into the final and it dropped me to a B. He doesn't make the final, just make sure to study for it!!!!
He got better at explaining material as the class size got smaller. I got a "B" in Chem in high school but got an "A" pre-curve on all 4 tests in his class, so it is possible to do good. Study hard and do practice problems in the book and you should succeed.
I personally like him. He's a cool guy if you get to know him. He can be understanding but sometimes would even follow procedure in syllabus (he wouldn't let me turn in my lab report a bit late for points off.
AVOID. He hates students and goes out of his way not NOT help you. His tests are VERY HARD and not relevant with any of the material other than the math of the chemistry. Tests are 20 questions and ALL math based. Extremely difficult and very rude.
He is not the best teacher but is well educated. He gives you 4 test all multiple choice but with difficult calculations. High school got a 98 in chem but with this guy got my first C ever he made want to change my major. If you want to teach yourself Chem take him cause he doesnt no point in showing up to class.
He is not a good instructor but the class is easy. The tests come from the test bank in book so as long as you do practice problems and study on your own you will be fine. HIGH curve, homework for completion, lowest test score dropped. The final is standardized so that was the only difficult part.
I had him for Chem Lab. I heard from a friend that he was extrememly unhelpful and avoided student, his office hours were 2 hours week on one day... so that proved to be true. If you ask him questions he will answer you sarcastically and look very annoyed. He did explain everything thoroughly though. The class is super easy if you put in the time.
Wow this teacher is unbelievable If you have a question he gets mad at you for asking. I really do not understand that since that is his job but anyway I stopped asking him questions. Labs were easy, quizzes were very hard. Failed all of them. Do not take him if you want some sort of help. If you're good at chemistry this will be a breeze
He was totally rude for most of the semester. He believes that most questions are stupid questions, and refuses to answer questions. When he puts forth effort, you can mostly be sure that he isn't leading you down the path towards to correct answer. He is mean and rude, but the class is doable if you can learn though lecture.
Professor Bertolucci was an alright professor. He does know his stuff, and when I asked questions, he wasn't too annoyed. Pretty much, follow the manual; he sometimes adds extra steps, but nothing difficult. There are 4 quizzes, which weren't hard, but the Final Exam is made by him, so study the manual really well.
Gotta love him. He's hilarious and is always there to answer questions if you have them.
Very rude person to talk to. You could tell he hated being present during the lab, as well. Also tests were difficult. If you can stand the attitude and if you're fairly decent at chem you should be fine. Otherwise, avoid.
i was afraid to take him from past reviews i had seen but he was so kind and willing to help. he gave me good feedback on my lab reports to prep for the final. recommend!!
Class was fine and not too difficult. He seemed very rude and like he didn't want to be there 90% of the time. I was extremely grateful for the TA. The TA did basically all the work with answering questions and helping students while he sat over in the corner on his phone.
He's just like most of the reviews I read, He doesn't wanna be there and comes to class late and isn't super helpful, BUT I found him to be a great teacher. He posts Powerpoints and gives somewhat of a lecture before experiments. Clear and to the point. 4 quizzes, dept. final, and the lab reports due the week after are the only graded material.
Lectures were boring , but he wasn't too harsh a grader
Very rude and quite sassy if you take a long time to finish up, but SUCH an easy grader. It's pretty much an A or B if you show up and fill in your notebook, even if it's with inaccurate. If you can handle a professor who doesn't care about what's going on and will get on to you if you mess something up, take him. Very easy grader.
Very very impatient and sassy to students, but VERY easy on grading. I withdrew from lecture at the beginning of the semester, and I'm going to get an A or B in lab because of how easy he is. I would've failed with anyone else. Put up with his attitude, you'll get an A or B. Do as he says, and don't back talk to him!!
Pretty rude, and sometimes his pre-lab lectures are LONG, but as long as you follow his rules, you WILL pass. Easy grader, only 2-3 open notebook quizzes (ie What is the name of this structure? What is it's mass?) that aren't hard, and he only looks at notebooks once at end of semester. Sassy and a bit arrogant, but easy B/A.
Not a nice guy, but at the end of the semester, he gave me an A, despite having an 85! He is very easy on grading lab reports, and does crazy grade curving at the end of the semester. You won't like him, but you'll do well in his lab if you take him, Put up with his attitude for the A, it's worth it! Does give pop quizzes, but they're open notes.
He has a professional attitude during class. If you ask him for help, he will go above and beyond to help you better understand. He does mini lectures before each lab and sometimes pop quizzes. However, if you set up your notebook, the quizzes are an easy 100. He is also incredibly lenient when grading lab reports.
He does appear standoffish, but if you ask him a question, he will try to help. He gave a small lecture before the lab and an occasional pop quiz (open lab book). If we finished early he let us go. Lab reports were due every week and you keep a lab notebook that he grades at the end of the semester. Very easy grader. Overall, a decent choice.
Pretty easy A since the lab reports are basically the main things you're graded on and the internet helps with those. The professor himself tends to be a little rude when you ask questions; makes you feel stupid for asking. But then again he did say he wouldn't accept late notebooks but he took mine and only took off 20%.
He really did not seem to care about the course very much. He gave a lot of A's as long as the answers on the lab reports makes some sense.
I did not learn as much as I wanted to learn in the lab. But professor Bertolucci is one of the easiest chem 1211L professors you are going to get. He is a very easy grader and all his quizzes over the labs are online and you get 3 attempts to do them. and you keep the highest grade. very easy professor, so if you want an A take him.
Dr. Bertolucci comes to lab every week looking like he'd rather be fighting ISIS or something. Easy grader on lab reports & says he will give quizzes but doesn't. Don't ask him a question, especially if he's on his phone. It will remind him that he's actually in ochem lab & he will get very sassy. He wont learn anyone's name but dont be offended.
Professor Bertolucci is very unorganized. He doesn't grade things on time, barely goes over the lab, and sits on his phone the whole time. He yells at people for no reason and gets bothered when people ask him any question. He's very rude, but if you want an easy A, take him and stay to yourself in the back.
Skipped for a whole month straight(excluding test days) and managed to maintain an A. Good professor to take if you don't like showing up to class. His tests are essentially the homework problems but with different numbers and values.
He doesn't seem fond of answering questions in class. As long as you do the required reading before class he will summarize it in class, there is usually a TA to also assist you through the class
This professor is very rude and makes side comments to his students. His lectures are long, dull and I couldnt stand sitting through them. Although, he does allow you to leave early if you have gathered everything you need from the lab. He does not grade anything in class, only the notebook and final lab submissions. Quizes aren't very hard.
There were five tests and one final. It takes him well over a month to grade each test. Each test has ONLY 10 QUESTIONS, AND EACH TEST IS WORTH 150 PTS. The fifth test is JUST TWO DAYS BEFORE THE FINAL. He wouldn't give me my tests back before the final because they weren't graded or he didn't have them. Lectures weren't easy to understand.
Learned nothing. Only 5 tests. 1 was a day before a final. Wont get test graded until 2-3 months later. Goes on tangents about unnecessary things. Have to teach yourself everything from the book. Impossible to study. 10-12 question test. Zero multiple choice. Had A in high school and may not even pass this class. No notes posted online.
There were five exams (10 questions, free response) + a final. I have received 2 of those grades as of today. I have no idea what my overall grade in the class was leading up to the final. We were not told anything about the final. Lectures were boring and hard to sit through. I didn't learn anything from class and taught myself with the textbook.
Craig is not a very good General Chemistry teacher, though I have heard that he is more skilled in teaching O Chem. My biggest thing with this guy is that he doesn't stay on top of his gradebook. We took 5 exams prior to the final exam and i'm currently sitting here on the day of the due date for grades with only 2 of these exams in D2L.
Didint know what I got on 3/5 tests until after final was taken, those grades were put in 20 minutes before all grades were due for semester. Couldnt explain any material clearly in lectures. We took a test 1 day before our final. I had to teach myself everything for this class. Absolutely horrible and gets annoyed when asked questions. DO NOT TAKE
He knows hi stuff but for gen chem he goes a little above our content since hes usually an organic chem teacher. He gives 5 all free response test but drops the lowest one. If you go to lecture and read the textbook youll be able to get an easy B maybe an A. He takes forever to grade and can be a little rude sometimes. You have to work for it.
Easy A if youre looking for a lab professor. Doesnt grade too hard but waits until the last minute to grade. Only reason why I didnt give 5 stars is because he can come off as rude to those who dont listen. More than happy to answer questions that you dont understand, and Ive even found that he can answer stuff better than lecture professor.
Took him until the end of the year to grade 3 of the 5 tests we have, so you wont know your grade standing until the end of the semester. 5 tests, 1 dropped, 5 HW sets, and 1 final. Grades out of 1000 points with partial credit. All tests are free response, only a bit challenging but can be difficult for some. Rude in his verbal responses.
He was a really slow grader, putting everything from test 3 onward today, when final grades were due. He was also really monotonous during lecture, and got snippy over being asked questions. This was his first time teaching general chemistry instead of organic chemistry, but that's no excuse for how he taught this course this semester.
Bertolucci is very unapproachable and honestly being in his lab was stressful for no reason. He's a pretty fair grader but does NOT grade in a timely matter. I didn't know my grade up until the day before grades were due. Avoid if you can.. If it's unavoidable, read the procedure really well, sit in the back, and don't ask him questions if possible
HORRIFIC This prof makes it clear he does not respect his students. He is disrespectful and aggressive, talks to students like garbage (don't bother trying to ask questions!), refuses to offer any instruction, alters procedures with no explanation or further info, refuses to properly wear the UNIVERSITY REQUIRED face mask while "lecturing"
Waited until the last 2 days to grade 50% of the worksheets/ lab reports. However, he makes up for it by being very generous with grading. He will help you if you email him. Overall, he's on the better side of average, but his late grading didn't allow me to gauge my grade until grades were due.
One of the rudest professors I have ever met. Don't bother to ask him a question about the material - he will likely embarrass you with his belittling response or he will likely leave it to his TA while he takes a smoke break. Also, don't expect any grades until the very end of the semester, but likely good grade if you submit anything.
Read the reviews. he is very rude. I did not choose to take him. he was assigned to us after our original prof. couldn't continue teaching our course. i will say he is an easy grader with the lab reports, BUT he does NOT prepare you for the final exam. He prepares you for his "quizzes" but not the actual final. Avoid him if you can...
Doesnt like to answer questions clearly, but grades reports easily. Not helpful.
Its over half way through the semester and this man does NOT have a SINGLE grade in. I have no clue how I am doing in the class. He is blunt, condescending, and smells like cigarettes. He gets snappy when you ask questions and wants you to do the lab and get out. The assignments aren't too terrible with reasonable deadlines. Very average lab.
I haven't gotten a single grade yet and the class has been over for almost 2 weeks. Assignments are fine, not too hard but you'll never know how you did on them. Deadlines are reasonable. In lab he's condescending and unapproachable. If you take this class, be prepared to go the entire semester (and then some) without any grades at all.
I only took him for lab, and I thought he would have maybe been better as a lecture professor. He taught the concepts from lecture better than my own prof. I also liked that he would tell you how to fix your mistakes, and he was oddly patient for a chem lab professor. His final exam sucked, though. Didn't learn most of that and no curve.
100% the worst professor ive ever had. he is very rude and insanely condescending when asked questions, i was told i obviously do not know this material and this is a you problem, not a me problem when i asked him a simple question regarding the lab. do not take.
The prof was fine. Everything is done on Labflow and has the same due dates every week. He explained the labs to us but only paid attention to some students when they needed help. Final exam was extremely difficult and I felt very underprepared.
We did all the work on labflow. Straightforward directions. The prof was fine, he will answer any questions you have. The final was mostly a mix of chem 1 & 2 lecture material. Naturally we didn't feel prepared for it. He ended up dropping it from our final grade. Very easy grader. He passes out A's like candy as long as you show your work.
Don't understand the hate for him. He lectures very well and explains concepts better than the lecture professor. Wont grade until the very last second but if you put in effort he gives a 100 for every report and lab notebook entry. Final is not written by him but it wasn't too bad (open note). Mostly hands off unless you had questions lowkey funny
Honestly Craig Bertolucci was the best lab teacher I have ever had. Compared to other lab instructors he was pretty laid back. I dont know why people are hating on him but he answers questions with the best of his ability just dont ask questions you can figure out yourself. He is also a very good grader. Make sure you show up to the labs!!!!!!!!!
Take him for lab!! His lectures were extremely valuable to me. I would have no idea what's going on in lecture, but leaving the lab I would understand completely. He can be rude and leaves class to smoke a lot, but he's actually funny if you don't take it all too seriously. Scary to ask him questions, but gives great feedback. You will learn a lot.
Mixed emotions here. I found his lab lectures boring, & he didn't seem very useful during labs bc it seems like he didn't know what to do either. Assignments were never really cleared, but he ended up giving everyone credit for completion. Very understanding when asked for extension on deadlines. Always serious but you can tell he loves teaching.
Was nervous because of all the bad reviews, but he was a good professor. I learned a lot from his class. He always has a pre-lab lecture/ answers questions. Do the work and come to lab prepared, you will do fine. If you ask him questions that he just explained in class to everyone bc you werent listening, he will get frustrated. Just do the work.
Not the nicest guy in the world, but he wasn't rude or anything - just straight to the point. The lab wasn't hard at all as long as you read the instructions prior to the lab. He grades based on completion not so much quality, but even then the worksheets and post-lab questions weren't too difficult.
This is the worst professor I've had at KSU. He is really rude and condescending. He basically called me dumb in front of the whole class for a simple misunderstanding. He is gone for the majority of the class to smoke and does not grade in a timely manner. If you have the option to take anybody else, please do so! You will regret taking him!
He is very laid back and has a dry sense of humor. While he seems rude at first, he is actually pretty nice and is funny. He also gets straight to the point and doesn't waste time. His labs are based off completion, with him not grading them till last minute. However, the class doesn't do much in preparing you for the final.
He's not the best but ok. If able to take ANOTHER professor do it. He NEVER puts in the grades but when he does he just puts in 100 because he doesn't care. During labs, he always just leaves and doesn't come back until the end of the labs. He makes you feel dumb when you ask questions. Final is hard, and it's NOTHING he taught during the semester.
Genuinely, he is not that good of a professor. He can be rude at times and does not know what is going on others, but overall he is a pretty cool guy. He does care for his students, just he doesn't really show it. His labs are based off completion. His class does not prepare you for the final, you have to learn all of that on your own.
You are the best
I just took the final and he STILL hasn't graded anything. Heard from another student that he just puts in 100s because he doesn't care. He made me feel scared to ask questions because whenever I did ask I felt dumb. Also, the lab final was an open note test but that barely helped. Leaves the lab to go on smoke breaks.
Professor Bertolucci is a college professor who treats you as a college student. He lectures 30 minutes plus. You are expected to have read the lab before class so you do the lab. He will explained about the lab and if you ask he will help. I found him knowledge. He doesn't put the grades in the gradebook so that was one thing I didn't like.
He prefers to mock you rather than answer your questions. if you only want a good grade he is fine because he gives a lot of partial credit for lab reports and a lot of time for online quizzes which don't have lockdown. But, if you care about your mental health stay away from him. miss one lab and you will get a minimum of three zeros.
Not accessible by email, not accessible by office hours, and if you do have a question to ask him in class instead of helping you he prefers to mock and cuss at you making it very hard to be comfortable asking questions to him. he leaves class a lot for smoke breaks. He doesn't grade anything until after the semester ends. He knows org chem.
gives a clear outline of the procedure but he can be very rude at times. Hard to ask him questions without being scolded so be ready to have tough skin. He does leave the lab and take smoke breaks so when you have a question you'll be looking around for him and he won't be there. I wouldn't make him my first option but sure
Yes, he definitely comes across as rude. HOWEVER, he really isn't rude as long as you follow his very clear instructions and lectures that he outlines before the lab. His lectures do overestimate chem 1 students but they're helpful. He is an easy grader for lab reports and the labs are easy. Leaves class often for smoke breaks. Ask TA for help 1st
He is a bit sassy but just because he doesn't understand that not everyone is an expert at what he is teaching. He grades very leniently and is very understanding if something happens and you show up late or turn something in late. He lectures for about an hour before we start the lab but it is an easy A if you put in the time.
I loved him. He is sassy but it is not something that is upsetting at all. Just pay attention to what he says and do not ask dumb questions. He grades leniently since he knows people might cheat on the assignments. That being said, he does not curve the final because that is a reflection on what you learned. I say take him!
This teacher was not as bad as the reviews made it seem, honestly, the most chill professor I have had for lab. He lets you know day 1 how he grades, and he does make some non-funny/corny jokes, but overall, a good professor!
I don't understand the negative reviews he's genuinely so chill and if you have a question he will just answer it straight up with no fluff. He does go on some tangents but other than that I would love to take him again literally my favorite professor at this school so far.
This guy is awesome, I'm glad it seems the ratings on him are changing and understand he isn't rude he just expects you to act as a college student and do your work and not be dumb. Get your work done and in time or else he will make you pay. He doesn't play about being late. He also loves smoking I had a great convo with him about smoking. Awesome
Great lab professor. Gives 45~ minutes of lecture before starting the lab, makes sure everyone can complete the lab manual & understands what they're doing. Little sassy if you ask a question he just answered, but he's overall funny & forgiving. Understanding if something pops up. You can leave once you've cleaned up your lab!
He wasn't a bad professor, however, he is very snarky with his comments, making it difficult to come to him with questions. He is also very passive and makes certain comments that will have you biting your tongue. If there is a better professor for you to take, I would do that.
Don't ask stupid questions, know at least the basics, and you'll be alright. Super easy grader, very flexible, and he will repeat questions until you answer them right. I found him hilarious, attitude and all. Just realize he isn't being mean, just wants you to understand. If you can stand a little sharp wit, absolutely take his class!
Idk what the lowball ratings were talking about because he was GREAT, quite literally just pay attention during pre lab and take notes during his explanations and you'll be fine. He doesn't grade harshly on labs at all (this is your “curve”) but be aware he doesn't curve the final because of this. I was scared to take him for no reason lol
His pre-lab lectures are thorough. Gets frustrated when students don't participate. Gives 100s on labs if you follow directions. He takes smoke breaks, so ask questions in the beginning of the lab! You can leave dry labs after the first 10 min; wet labs require full attendance. He never checks lab notebook before class.
