HE'S A GREAT TEACHER, HE'LL BEND OVER BACKWARDS TO HELP YOU FOR YOU TO GET A GOOD GRADE
No Comments
He is really helfpul
He is an awesome teacher who is super funny and always willing to help. If you get the chance deff. take a class with him he always keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Dr. Craig is aWesomE! I had him for two classes and he really made me care about history. As long as you pay attention he will go out of his way to help you.
He is a pretty easy teacher as long as you do the work and pay attention. If you love history then he may be too easy for you, but if you hate history and you need to take it I recomend Dr. Coenen.

this was the best professor i had while at mercer. he is very enthusiastic about his subject and is easy to understand. he will answer questions and is easy to approach about your grade. he obviously wants to see his students get good grades. take him if you can
Don't let his goofy demeanor fool you...he is tough
great person, makes you want to be there, and i hate history. very enthaustic and helpful about the course. probably the most i ever learned in the 3 history courses i took, also the classes are easy. ONE OF THE BEST PROFFESORS I EVER HAD! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I took him three times he's the best but he's tough his classes are really interesting and fun
Very easy teacher. Gives tests in writing forms so you can explain your answers. Easy grader. His lectures aren't boring at all. I never studied, never cracked the book, and just paid attention to his lectures. He's funny and dramatic. Take his classes.
D.C. is one of the greatest men who have ever lived; next to Jesus Christ Himself, me, and Chad Pennington. Just make sure that you study and pay attention in class.
best teacher I've had at MCCC makes the class fun
No Comments
Makes the class fun! Great guy!
great teacher, and the most enthusiastic one I've ever had. VERY high energy.
goes into no depth. not worth going to class as he teaches straight from the book.
One of the best profesors at Mercer!!! Keeps you very interested in the class and will do anything to help. I liked him so much I signed up for two more classes with him.
I loved Craig! He's an amazing teacher. Extremely helpful in whatever we can do to make you understand. History 105 isn't exactly the most exciting class but he made it interesting espically at 9 am. You're supposed to read the text but I never really did , I only used it on our study guides. Notes are the most important part of class.
He is awesome that's not just comming from a female. I hated history before I took his class. He uses powerpoint and if you don't understand something he takes the time to make you understand. No ? is 2 dumb for him. If I could take him again I would He keeps you awake in class and makes history come to life. I took him last semester spring 06
He's an AWESOME teacher and made the class worth going to. You won't regret taking him
Great teacher, good personality, funny and creates a great enviroment. I love history so this class was for me!
One of the best teachers at mercer! Great knowledgeable guy with a great personality! Strongly reccomend
By Far One Of The Best Professors At Mercer!! He Has A Great Sense Of Humor. If Your Into Having Great Class Decussions With Himor Involved Take On Of His Classes.
he is the best professor ever. he is so funny, he makes class interesting. he bounces off the walls, jumps on desks to get his point across. he's very passionate. his tests are simple as long as you do the review sheet. he's the nicest man ever. even if u hate history, he'll make you enjoy class. take him if you can!
Craig is one of the nicest and most helpful professors that I have ever had! I don't like history, but he made class very interesting. Take him if you can!
Really good teacher, very charismatic, helpful, fair and funny too... Would recommend him to anyone..but do your part.
Excellent professor. He loves history and makes you love it too! Loved his excitable way he teaches. However, be prepared to read the text and take good notes. His tests can be difficult, but gives you room, and ways to get a higher grade by giving partial credit.
He is a good teacher but don't take him for the shorter summer online session because he piles on the work and gives you no breathing room. Had to write four fairly long papers with the last two assigned a few days before the end of class.
I took the honors section which was very challenging but I am sure his regular classes are more managable. He is very entertaining (I heard he throws markers at people in regular classes!) and a great teacher. I hated history but never felt sleepy in his class.
He is a great and funny professor who really loves history! Class isn't too hard, and if you go over everything on the review sheet before exams it isn't that difficult to get a good grade.
I have him for His105. He is probably the best teacher I've ever had. He jumps on tables, runs around the room.. what ever he has to to get you to understand. He hates seeing us bored, so he makes it interesting. His tests and papers are very reasonable. He wants you to learn and not memorize. I defiantly recommend taking a class with him.
The best i can say is that with him, you really have to go out of your way to fail or get a D.
The best teacher I have ever had.He will do whatever it takes to keep your attention (jumping on desks and throwing objects.)He gives reviews for his tests and let us bring in food to make the review even easier. He's a fair grader and I don't see how anyone wouldn't do good in his class. TAKE THIS CLASS, you won't regret it.
he is one of my favorite teachers. he's super cool and hyper. he jumps on the desk and smacks the walls. he knows everybody's name by the 2nd day of class, he's nice, and his class is fun. on review days for tests we have food partys
I would say never take an online class at Mercer, especially this class. The workload is ridiculous. You have to post 9 times a week, midterm and final papers, as well as 2 minor papers in-between. His essay topics are unclear and odds are you won't get the grade you want. Overall, if I had to do it all over again I would stay clear of this course.
My first and last online course, this class is my major and unfortunately he is also my advisor and the dept head, so I have no hope of complaining. The work load is like nothing I have ever seen. He assigns a minimum amount of 15-20 posts per week, but you can only expect a C. I have lost work, relationship and health during this class!
I loved this teacher. He was amazing. I took it last spring and his tests are simple as long as you study. He has a party before every test during review day and you can get questions taken off with how much food you bring in. I loved it. I received an A. I am not even that good in History. Take notes and listen. Then review before the test. easy.
I love Craig! He is so funny and makes class so interesting...I actually like going to his class and listening to him lecture, he actually makes you want to learn history. His exams are pretty simple just a mid-term and a final and as long as you pay attention you'll pass his class.
I had him for an online course. Huge amount of work. About 9 questions to answer a week however the questions are almost 2 paragrphs long and require a lot of reading before you can even try to answer them. And if he doesn't like your answer, you wont get a good grade. No real tests of quizzes. But you have an essay or a paper due each week. Hated
Good professor, always replies to emails, patient with late work, understanding of situations. He was a hard grader but fair and gave you opportunities to do well. This was my 2nd class with him...would definitely recommend him to anyone!
He is the BEST history professor I've ever had! I don't really like history but I NEVER got bored in his class. He's extremly energetic. He knows the material very well, he can teach for an hour without powerpoint or any notes. His homeworks and tests are reasonable. I learned a lot from him. Highly recommended!!
Very clear with everything. Only a couple papers to write. Exams are easy as long as you study. Keep a good note book. He was the best teacher I had at Mercer. He will keep you awake. I'd recommend him to anyone.
Keeps class fun when the class feels tired. f you have the chance take his class. He is funny and makes fun of himself all while teaching History. History is not a drag with Craig.
TAKE HIS CLASS! His class is extremely interesting and he loves to teach. Exams are not hard but you have to study and be prepared for them. Best history teacher I've ever had.
There are 3 tests (1 counts as the final)- have 5 IDS and 1 essay. Answer VERY thoroughly to get full credit. There were also 2 essays (4pgs each). He's pretty tough with grading but gives study guides(a lot of unneeded material on them) & is willing to take full rough drafts of essays & tell you what to change to get an A.
Dr. C is one of the greatest teachers at the college. Willing to help you- will allow you to submit papers and revise them, will let you make up tests- but expects a lot of you- must show to class, pay attention and do your part. Well worth it.
Great professor, tries his best to keep the class interested. Brings history to life.
He is by far the most amazing teacher I have ever had! /i was never interested in history til I took his class and now I am in Honors. He just wants to know you are absorbing the information as long as you read and listen you will suceed in his class and remember the info ... and alsways keep in contact with him about any questions or problems.
Figured everyone was being dramatic when I saw dont take him online.I have gotten nothing but As before and am taking this while attending another university.Extremely harsh grader and very unclear.Expects an extreme amount of detail on papers and 11 forums each week.Grade doesn't matter to me because only credits transfer or I would drop the class
He was a decent professor. Gave clear instructions about expectations. He gave quite a bit of work, but he was a fair grader.
I took an honors course on the Cold War with him. Intimate lecture setting and he was so energetic and wonderful. He is very passionate about history and his students. He's not the easiest grader but if you pay attention in lecture and STUDY you'll be fine with him. Personally and professionally a great guy.
Amazing class
Took it online and you're going to have to put in work to get an A. He wants well thought out responses for the discussions and essays. You'll fail you do not read the content or save it all for the last minute. If you put in effort and meet his weekly discussion quotas you'll get an A. His grading criteria is very clear. He provides fast feedback.
he is a great professor! he loves his job and keeps you entertained. At no point will you be bored in this class. i sugget you do the readings and know the matterial his class is easy if your willing to put the work into it. He wants alot of detail on his tests overall i think it was easy!
He's very dynamic & engaging in class. Really wish he could be a teacher for other subjects. For essays I recommend that you send it to him for a pregrade & he will tell u exactly what u need to do to improve. Tests are hard but then I'm terrible with written tests as no matter how much studying I do I forget stuff once the book is in front of me.
Extraordinarily passionate about teaching, which makes a class that should be extremely boring as interesting as any other class you could take. While there are readings for homework every class, you don't need to read them to get a good grade, so long as you pay attention to the lectures and listen intently to what he teaches. Loved his class.
Do not take this professor online. He assigns way to much work along with five 3-4 page papers with the load of homework he gives. I spent hours every week, and even days on his homework and he won't give me credit for work because it was too factual based. This class is hard and his style of grading doesn't make any sense to me.
Took his online class, had numerous discussion boards, and you have to do at least 6+ each week to actually receive a C on it.... quizzes are online as well. Test are essays and they have to be 4/5 pages, and he is a TOUGH grader on the essays!!!! Gave me a D on the essay claiming I answered the question but wasnt in dept. I mean really a D?!?!?
This professor awful! dont take his class! I did so much work every week and he did not appreciate student's work! Coenen you are awful!!!!!
Professor Coenen is a great teacher. He truly loves history which makes the class not so boring. He emails you weekly so you know how your doing, which is awesome. He expects a lot in the discussion posts, but if you do the work you will do fine. He wants everyone to pass his class. One of my favorite teachers.
Craig is such a wonderful human being. Sometimes I wonder if he has low self esteem over wether his students like him or not but I hope he knows we love him so much. He's so funny and down to earth and tries his best to make the class entertaining for you. If you have the chance to take a class with him please do
He gives waaaay to much homework. He explains how you can get an A,B or C on his assignments but won't actually give you the grade you earned from doing the homework assignments. Switch out as soon as possible because his five week course goes by so fast and he doesn't give students enough time to get it all done. He's very detail oriented.
Professor Coenen was fantastic! Having him twice, online & in person, was a privilege. But be aware he is a tough grader, mostly because he wants you to feel that you have earned it. This class can get very intense especially if you take his holocaust and genocide studies. He is very friendly and enthusiastic. I definitely recommend his classes.
Amazing. He was the best professor I have ever had! He helps when you need it or even when you think you didnt. He is caring and wants everyone to pass. Shows that he loves what he does!
Fantastic Professor! He is so friendly, kind, and easy-going. He can be a tough grader only because he wants to see you try. I had him twice, online and in person, and I enjoy every second of his teaching. It was a privilege having him
Took online, he gives a LOT of work, multiple hours per week on an 'easy' week. He is a tough grader, but fair, and very clear on what he expects. Probably better in person because he was not actively involved online, but that is typical of online classes in my experience. Essays were complicated and somewhat unclear. I don't dislike him.
There is a lot of homework (as the course is online) but it is easy to do well as long as you follow the instructions and don't do it all at the last minute (he takes off points for doing it all the day it's due). All exams are 4-page essays and the guidelines are sort of unclear; it is easy to miss something that you didn't know he'd want.
Took online his-106 he was a tough but fair grader.
He is a great professor. He keeps the class very interesting, no matter the subject, and his lectures are always memorable. He has great intentions and wants his students to be involved with the material. However, he is a very tough grader. His essay questions are long, tricky, and sometimes difficult to answer.
VERY TOUGH GRADER!!!!!!!!! Good guy but makes you work extremely hard for the good grade.
Craig is such an amazing guy just super corny. His test are always take home but there really essays. I woulnt advise anyone to take his class because he is a really a tough grader. He does give great advice on life but he is such a boring professor. Craig does jump on desk, throws chalk, and talks loud but his class is really really hard.
I had Craig for His 105. He seemed like a nice guy but his teaching method just wasn't for me and i was very confused and lost. All he did was tell us to read a bunch of pages from the book for the next class and then he would show up and just ramble on and on about it without any clear notes. I ended up withdrawling the class.
Do not take History 106 online. Im warning you now, Ive never had to do so much work for one class in my life. Hes also a tough grader.
Ive taken a bunch of online classes at Mercer and I have never been given this amount of work to do. Honestly its ridiculous, he expects you to post around 7-10 extremely detailed posts in the discussion board a week plus quizzes in order to get an A for that week. Ive never withdrawn from a course before but this was horrible.
This class was a breath of fresh air. Normally history professors can be boring but not him! He kept me engaged in the lecture. I also really liked that his tests were essays that you do at home. Thanks to that I passed this class. Before the essays he also gives some input on what hed like to be included in the essay, so that was nice.
I took the 105 course online and did better than I thought I would. The reviews I read intimidated me. The material isn't difficult it's easy to locate the answers in the textbook but it's A LOT of work!! He's a very fair grader. The winter course is accelerated and if you have a busy schedule I wouldn't take it online. He's a decent professor.
Very laborious course, however this professor sets you up for success. He is always available to help and answer any and all questions. Organized and concise, good hearted, very clearly here for the success of his students.
He is a nice professor but gives a lot of work and reading, but thats alright with me. You have 11-12 questions and quiz to do weekly. What sucks is that he gives essay exams and is a picky grader. You have to be very specific and talk about all 4 chapters in order to receive a good grade.
Craig is one of the best prof's at Mercer. He was amazing during Covid. I just finished an online class with him and loved it. Definitely get both textbooks as everything is based on them. He will read all your exams for you and provide good feedback. Do all 11 discussions and answer all the questions for an A. Emailed multiple times a week. Love u
I took Coenen 2 semesters (HIS105/106) & he is a nice professor. The discussion posts (11 weekly) are easy. But he is very picky with tests & you have to be very specific to get a decent grade; including 4 chapters worth of information. I found him to be a bit bias as my friend received a higher grade than me considering our tests/work were alike.
Very straightforward Professor, has time for everyone. Ready and willing to help when you don't understand your assignment even exams, he will explain into details that will make you know what to write on. If you are taking history class. Please go for Professor Craig Coenen and you won't regret it. May sure you contribute in every discussion forum
Prof C is a very lenient and understanding Professor. If taken online his course is lengthy when it comes to reading. He is a bit old school and not too tech savvy. So bare with him and his word docs he wants very details explanations to each question. Time management is key in this class if you are taking other courses throughout the semester.
Professor Coenen class brought my self with a new level of learning. From the hard exams towards constantly being confused within the textbook work. He was very limited into having meetings within his student either way the course was fully online. I usually don't rate my professors, but this course overloaded work for all students.
Have taken a lot of classes that have required reading and extensive participation and I took lots of time out of free days to read and complete the work. For my best work I received not so great grades and after helping another classmate and basically having the same sources/points and information they did great and I got a horrible grade.biased
I took this online, it was very easy and simple. Barely any work to do, weekly homework assignments which was really simple and can be done fast. Essays and quizzes were a joke, the whole class was really easy in general. Most easiest online class to end with an A. Quizes and the "final exam" was just a pdf mcq that you can turn in. Easiest class!
Took him in my first semester. Just show you're putting in effort and do the work and he'll reward you.
craig is a really chill teacher, most of his material revolves around discussions which is very easy if you pay attention to class or read his material (don't be lazy). he has 3 big exams which involves big essays, but he gives you 2 weeks to complete it so you're chilling. Overall, he is really calm and talks a lot. with effort, it's an easy A
Have you ever wanted to take a holocaust class and thought to yourself, "this sounds really depressing, this will be no fun." Do I have some news for you! This teacher has to be one of the most deeply caring souls I have meet, he will listen to you talk about your issues and help, he's hard on himself, because he blamed our mistakes on himself
