Craig Ginn is THE MAN! one of the best profs at the UofC, covers everything in great detail and in an unbiased fashion.
Craig is so awesome! Super nice guy, extremely knowledgeable.. His tests are pretty fair and the marking scale is not bad. I didn't have a lot of interest in Religion before the course but he made it really interesting. Definitely recommend him!!
I think Craig is one of the better professors at the university. Marking scheme was fair, do have to know your stuff for the multiple choice tests. Highly recommended!
Awesome prof
Craig is a great professor! Take a class with him just for the amusement alone! Plus he looks like Johnny Depp! A great man and intelligent scholar.
Awesome Prof! Hes is seriously smart, and very intersting. Not too mention he is pretty gorgeous. Go to class, and take notes!
craig was a great proft. found it interesting. he tries his best not to step on anyones toes but still gets the truth out. class is good for understanding but exams are based on the text, he does have bonus questions from class though. overall great class will be taking another class with him.
Such a great prof and so funny! His class was so interesting and if you put in the proper amount of effort you'll do just fine. He expects details on his exams but I wouldn't go as far as to say he's a hard marker, just make sure you know the stuff. Seriously recommend any class with him, he's great!
He is a great prof, that looks and studies the religion from an academic stand point. Does a good job at being respectful of peoples personal beliefs, and allowing everyone to share their opinions and point of view. Great class!!!
The most amazing prof you will ever have. I judge harshly, and there is not a single thing wrong with Craig. I want to take any class he teaches. He will respect you, treat you kindly and make every rainy day sunny. God bless him, truly.
Craig is an incredible professor. He has the best intentions for his students, and respects all opinions. He is incredibly insightful, and his perspectives had a great influence on me. He has a heart of gold, would recommend him to everyone.
Dr. Ginn is really explicit in his online lectures and explains things very well. He makes his expectations pretty clear and makes really helpful weekly schedules for what he wants students to accomplish over the period. Really nice guy via communication and a great voice to listen to!
Good prof. Good class. Fairly difficult….. …. ..
Craig is an easy professor. He's really nice to every student in class. The textbook he chose is very cheap and useful. Not too much readings compare to other religious course. His test is fair and if you attend the class you will do well.
He was an awesome teacher. Just read the textbook and look over notes and you'll do really good! he marks fairly and is very approachable if you have any concerns. His tests are pretty easy if you have studied well. He tells us whats going to be on the written beforehand so you can prepare for it.
Dr. Ginn is a great prof who is both mindful and respectful to the sensitivities of religion. The tests (all MC) will test you on the mechanics of the assigned material and the material itself(so you can't really open book it). Lectures were interesting, the textbook was ok. Be sure to make use of the CD on the back before each exam to get an A.
The class is not hard. But do not take it as a GPA Booster. He is a nice guy, but when it comes to marking, he is really precise and if you mention anything extra be ready to prove it. The tests are easy to a certain extent, but yet again, you have to read the textbook thoroughly. Take it if you like Music and can memorize stuff and write papers.
Great professor, you must attend class because some information on tests is not in the text. He allows the class to have an input for the tests and they are not cumulative! Pretty much just attend class and prepare answers for the tests and you'll destroy it. I didn't prepare for one and it hurt me a lot.
Professor Ginn is by far one of my favourite profs. His lectures were intriguing, plus he's intelligent and super funny. I always looked forward to going to class. His tests consist of MC and short answer. He let's you choose the short answer questions so you can pre-write and memorize. Go to class, take notes, and read the one chapter per test.
I enjoyed this class! I found the tests to be a combination of shake-my-head difficult (20%) and really obvious and easy (80%). Huge focus on textbook. Ginn made sure to thoroughly respond to all questions, even bringing them up during the next class if he wasn't satisfied with his initial response. His easygoing vibe made class fun!
He doesn't post lecture slides and his slides are unique from the textbook so it's a must to attend. He's hilarious. The class focuses on the more historical side of religion. Some of his TF test questions are tricky. Pulls really specific details from the textbook, which isnt covered very much in class.
Dr. Ginn was the reason I took REL 203 after taking 201 the previous semester. You must read the textbook chapter(s) in their entirety to be fully prepared for his tests. Anyone who doesn't like him either a) didn't read the textbook before a test and got a bad mark andor b) isn't willing to hear the ugly about their religion. Great, fair prof!
Online class, so it was bound to be easy. Still, a lot of the questions on his test were true or false, which is a godsend. As long as you write down important things he and his guest speakers mention on the audio clips, test should be good. Read the textbook and take good notes. Tests were specific, but seeing as it was online, textbook+notes A
Craig is a great professor. Do the readings and go to class and it is an easy A. If you slack off and don't prepare for exams you will pay for it.. He gives out what the written portion of exam is going to be on so it is an easy 100%.
Very interesting material, especially modules 2-4. Tests were TrueFalse, multiple choice, and written. He told the class in advance what topics were going to be on the written section and let you choose 2 of the 4 topics. There were also bonus questions for every test.
If you can take it with him! Tests are straight forward if you go to class and read the chapters throughly! Amazing guy
This class is an easy A, especially if you have a friend doing it with you. However, many of the test questions are ridiculously hard to find, even with the help of Google. Listening to the audio files before the tests can be helpful to getting a good mark. Some of the tests are timed so studying a little bit beforehand is helpful.
interesting and easy to learnread. the prof is helpful. i would suggest taking notes for the audio files and paying attn to what he's saying in them. overall, prof was helpful and an easy course to get credit in. i would also recommend reading the text because it helps for the multiple choice. good instructions. tests are open book 50 MCTF
Dr. Ginn was a super nice prof, take good notes in his class, the little details are always bonus marks. Read the textbooks throughly. He is willing to go through your tests with you to add some extra marks. Written answers are always decided as a class together 3 days before the test. Really forgiving and understanding!
He is like the best professor Ever! Just saying
He's a wonderful professor. He won't hold your hand - if you ask him for something you missed he'll tell you to ask a student. He doesn't post the lecture slides & there is a large amount of content covered each lecture. Before each test he'll ask the class to come up with the short/long answer q's & he'll use them word for word. Read the text!
Craig is an incredibly engaging and entertaining lecturer. Definitely knows his stuff and it shows. Exams are quite easy but do include some specific lecture details so attending is recommended.
Very interesting lectures, he is open to different opinions and comments and regularly opens up the floor to questions. Tests are all MC/ T or F/ short answer (he gives you the questions the lecture before the test). If you attend lecture and keep up with readings the class compliments core courses nicely. All midterms are very similar in style
Craig is honestly one of the best profs out there. You do however have to show up to class since he doesn't post his notes online, but his lectures are actually interesting so it's worth it. I read the textbook chapters the night before the tests and always ended up with an A. Test aren't cumulative. Great guy, explains things when asked,MUST TAKE.
Craig was an amazing prof who made class actually enjoyable. He was always very respectful of diverse opinions, and took the time to address any student questions/comments. Attendance is basically mandatory because he doesn't post notes online. Show up to class, write down the slides and read the textbook, and you're golden!
Looks like Rob Van Dam with glasses but is the man! A great prof. If you need to take an option take this class with him. Is funny and cares about students. Surveyed the class for what should be tested on exams. Bonus questions are the only hard part. You will need the book as he assigns readings from there, but hold off until test material is set
FREAKING LOVE CRAIG. He is the bomb. Relatable, teaches religious studies in a perfectly unbiased way to let his students decide what to think. Very knowledgable, approachable, funny, and generous with the info he gives for upcoming tests. Tougher grader than I expected on essays but I was a bit lazy, to be honest. I'd 100% take another class!!!
Craig is amazing. He is hilarious, knows how to read a classroom, is empathetic, gives great lectures, is very respectful and understanding. His teaching method is consistent through all his classes and so it is very easy to know what to expect. Gives short answer questions before the tests and it is very east to get an A. Craig is wonderful.
Took his Christianity in the developing world course. He's a good prof who makes the content interesting. For the midterms, he gives out the short answer questions beforehand, so you can prepare your answers and easily get 100% on the written. MC is tougher because most of it is based off of the 2 textbooks, but still not bad. Overall, a solid prof
Gave long answer questions before exams so you could prepare answers, had multiple guest speakers, very enthusiastic about teaching! I would highly recommend taking a course with him.
Studying theology has never been so much fun. Take a Religious Studies class with Craig, you won't regret it! He graded my essay surprisingly hard, in contrast to the easy grading of the in-class mini essays on the exams.
The best prof to take an online class with! He is very clear with what's going to be on the tests and as long as you go over the readings and audio files you easily can get the answers. Test questions are super straightforward and are open book and as long as you put a little bit of work into skimming the specific pages earlier, it's easy.
Tests are a little tricky and specific but lectures are gnarly (the good kind)
Craig is awesome and every lecture is interesting. We have a couple of short books we had to read and the test questions from these sources were very specific. The tests were non-cumulative but still pretty tough. He doesn't post notes online so attending class is a must. Easy to do well in this class if you want to.
I really enjoyed taking Craig's class, his lectures were super interesting, and I overall really enjoyed the class. He really wanted us to do well in the class, and gave super detailed exam reviews. I would definitely take another class with him!!
He was by far the best prof I've ever had. He made lectures fun, told interesting stories, and was very involved with the class. Before each test the class has a discussion and he lets you pick what questions are on the test, really helps you prepare. You need to thoroughly understand readings for the tests. He doesn't post slides, so need to go.
He's a really funny guy and I feel like I learned a lot, but it's not the easiest to get a good grade in his class. He expected us to know VERY specific information for the tests.
Craig is a real gem. Provided really interesting material in each module. He follows a set schedule which makes things easy to follow. He includes all module material according to this schedule, and is helpful and genuine when answering questions. He has a really soothing voice, I could listen to him all day.
Dr Ginn is an awesome professor and a real great guy. He's passionate about what he teaches and he cares about his students. He creates an engaging learning environment centered around discussion-based learning. The only qualms I have are that he doesn't post the lecture slides online and the readings are dry. But overall he's a fantastic prof.
Craig is an awesome prof and a real great guy. He is passionate about his work and cares about his students. The environment he creates is engaging and he leaves room to asks questions to have good discussions. The material is interesting and it isn't a big deal that he doesn't post slides because he explains things really well. Craig is fantastic
Dr. Ginn did care about his material, you could tell. However, his lecture format of just talking during the lecture with little to no slideshows (which he wouldn't post) or written notes down on the board made it almost impossible to do well. Although he had good intentions, he really made it tough to succeed.
He goes over the slides too quickly which make it hard to take good notes, and plus he doesn't post them online which is another problem. The tests also consist of questions that are really specific in detail. Craig is a really nice guy with good intentions, but he made this class way harder than necessary in the end. I'd avoid him to be honest.
I am very upset with my experience throughout the duration of this course. I am a straight A's student, and in this class you definitely will not have the chance to achieve an A unless some miracle happens with you! DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL!!! :( :( :(
What in the fudgaroos just occurred with me? Did I deserve this? No. Did I work my bum off? Yes. Did I fail? Yeah, but no poor little child like me deserved this. No way. There's no way any one can escape this.. once you're in, YOU'RE NEVER GET OUT.. Unless you major in it which is really sad lol good luck ok not recommended bye.
A good prof overall and you can tell he really enjoys and is passionate about what he's teaching, and genuinely cares what students think about the topic. However, the tests seemed unfair especially because he asked REALLY specific questions that were usually not the main focus of the lecture. Also doesn't post slide deck. Not an easy A class!
This guy really wants peoples' gpa in this intro class to be low for some reason. Had a 3.85 gpa last term with much harder classes conceptually and i thought this would be an easy course to take in the spring, NOPE. Literally asks the most specific questions and quotes ever from 2 hour long documentaries or mindnumbing 40 min long audio files, smh
He's the nicest guy ever (which makes it tough for me to write this). But as a prof, he really isn't very helpful. His lectures are kind of unorganized which makes it tough to differentiate what is important and what isn't. Not only that but the exams contained questions that were very obscure and narrow in detail. Great guy, but tough professor!
Doesn't know how to teach. Has no patience when teaching and rushes through the slides so he can finish class early.
Craig is a great professor! He knows his stuff very well and engages in discussions. His cares about students and he enjoys teaching. Some of the questions on exams might be specific, but if you show up for every class and read whats required, youll be fine. His lectures and enthusiastic and 3 hours just go away in the blink of an eye!
One of the worst professors I have had. Does not seem to care about students. Does not give good feedback even when asked. Very impatient.
Worst class I have ever taken. It was interesting topics however the paper and tests were marked like everyone was majoring in the religion topic specified. Test questions were unfair as it gets and overall the structure and direction of the class was unclear. Until something is done, it is not recommended anyone take a class with him.
Very funny and he keeps all lecturers engaging for the entire class. The class is presented very well and from a very neutral, scholarly standpoint. I wish he would post his slides, it would make the course a lot easier since test questions can be very specific. Go to all lectures and read the textbook and you'll have a good time with Dr. Ginn.
Ginn is not a good prof whatsoever and honestly, I hated his class. He does not upload any notes to D2L which was really annoying. Half of his lectures were pointless and his tests are pretty unfair. He is also not very understanding and lowkey biased. He does give you the written questions which are really helpful. He gets off-topic really easily.
I really like Craig, hes a nice guy and I enjoyed his lectures. Going to the class before the exam is really important because he tells you the exact questions for the written portion and it would be hard to do well on the exam without knowing this info. The multiple choice questions were pretty hard.
It is pretty clear he hates his job. He is a horrible professor
Craig is an amazing prof! He doesnt post lecture slides on D2L so you need to come to class. His multiple choice test questions are difficult and specific but he let the class choose our written answer questions ahead of time so we could prepare them. He brings in guest lecturers which was the best part of the course!
Great guy, not such a great professor. His lectures are disorganized, if he does have lecture slides he doesn't post them, his explanations of topics are not very good, and his test questions are so ridiculously specific that you might as well memorize every line of the textbook if you want an A. Get ready to google any questions you have.
Craig is a joy to have as a professor. He gives engaging lectures with a witty sense of humor and a visible passion for the subject. He is extremely knowledgeable about the course content and respectfully answers any inquiries. His tests are very specific, but he provides information prior to the test to help ensure clarity. Highly recommend!
Craig is one of my favourite profs at the U of C. He is incredibly knowledgeable, forces his students to think deeply and critically, and is an all-around lovely person. Do the readings and study hard, and you will do just fine. His courses aren't easy As, but As are totally achievable if you attend class and do the readings.
Professor Ginn was a great prof during my time with him. His tests were pretty easy because he let the class decide what types of questions they wanted on the test. The MC and T/F were really easy as well as long as you read the chapter at least once as well as studied the grey boxes. Super fun lecturer and cool stories. would definitely take again
Really cool guy, you can tell he's super passionate. Will get you into some pretty interesting discussions. Lecture notes are a bit disorderly and he can go off topic a bit. Tests were difficult because they had poor grammar and were mostly vocabulary based. Get ready to memorize 50+ terms in a different language for each test.
He doesn't post his slides, so you have to show up to every lecture. If you wanna do well on tests you also have to read the textbook. There were questions on the tests that were oddly specific, but other than that they're fairly easy. His lectures were always really interesting and engaging, and he tries to encourage class discussions. Great prof!
Goes on a lot of tangents and doesn't answer questions well. Provides little guidance for writing religious studies essays even though he knows many of us are not rels majors. Rushes through the slides and talks really fast; super annoying. Tests you on material that isn't covered in the textbook or slides.
He expects you to memorize pointless details that don't matter. Rushes through the slides so you don't have time to take notes. Pretty horrible.
Let me put it to you this way. I'm a fourth year student. I have a 3.87 gpa. I have never gotten such a low grade at the University of Calgary. This man is a nightmare. Doesn't posts his notes online and tests absolutely ridiculous obscure details. Treating this as a core class couldn't save me. I got maybe 70's on the Judiasm unit. I'M. JEWISH!!!!
I really enjoyed his lecture style, despite not posting slides. He is willing to help outside of classes. You're expected to read quite a bit, textbook is mandatory. His feedback and guidance on papers was pretty bad. Exams are really rough - I went to all classes, engaged, read everything, studied, and still got a C. Tests on very small details.
worst prof ever
HORRIBLE. Online classes are annoying as it is, but when your prof refuses to post notes and ONLY posts voice recordings it makes it harder. Even worse; I asked him to post notes and he flat out said no.
This is my third year in post-secondary and Craig makes the hardest tests ive ever taken. He asks for direct quotes, which person said this, what was this specific date, very rarely do the tests correlate to what he assigned as study notes. I just took a midterm that I spent several hours studying for, I have 20+ notes of information and I got a B-
Interesting class and I enjoyed his style of lectures, he posts audio recordings and study guides for the readings. Make sure you read the textbook as the tests draw heavily from them. As long as you take good notes of the recordings and read the textbook its an easy A. Multiple choice tests and no final.
Craig is a REALLY nice guy and honestly a great professor from my experiences with him, he's caring and very understanding and goes above and beyond to help his students even if he is given iffy reasons for the students slacking off. I always felt he was looking for MY best interest not just the easiest way out
This class is incredibly easy and interesting. I really enjoyed it and always looked forward to studying for it. His tests were super easy. The audio conversations with other profs and students were really interesting
I enjoyed RELS 201 with Dr. Ginn. The coursework is interesting, and Dr. Ginn was thorough in answering questions. The grading is based on multiple choice/true-false quizzes, which are straightforward without trick questions. Small details are tested, so make sure to carefully study the textbook, podcasts, documentaries etc.
I took this course as an option, hoping to boost my GPA and it ended up being one of the most difficult courses Ive taken. Exam questions are VERY specific and test you trivial facts about the guest speakers/videos rather than on your knowledge of the actual course material. The final research paper has little to no instructions or guidelines.
Without a doubt, one of the worst profs ever. Goes and and on about how he is a musician without giving any direction to the actual content we need to be learning.
Really interesting guy to listen to, don't take if you just want an Easy A. Take it to learn. He also gets amazing guest speakers for the class aswell.
No, literally just no. Don't take unless you know everything about every religion. The questions are specific to random side notes in class. HE DOESN'T POST THE NOTES AND THE WORDS DON'T SPELL-CHECK. I will never take a religion class again, I AM AN ATHEIST NOW, I find no belief in god. good day!
Kind of fell in love with him through his content. Heavy workload, but wicked valuable content. If you actually want to learn and are willing to do the work he's so worth it. If you're looking for an easy grade maybe check something else.
Awful professor. Spends class time going on tangents without teaching course material.
test heavy and i hated the format of lectures. they were not recorded and felt very disorganized and scattered to me. the 2 tests were so detailed and the 2000 word essay was very toughly graded.
He literally made the course 1000000x harder than it needed to be. Test questions are unreasonable and difficult. On top of that, the final research assignment instructions were incredibly vague, yet he marked it as if you had to know EVERY LITTLE DETAIL OF THE FREAKING BIBLE. I would give you a 0, but that's not possible, so I give you a 1!
Textbook mandatory, so so much reading. Great lecturer and easy to reach, super understanding about personal circumstances. His tests are so WTF though.
There's so many people qualified to serve as amazing professors yet someone like him who is arrogant and uses class time to discuss his personal issues and biases, without any real knowledge gets the position. Guess that's what happens when one has privilege.
In class he mostly rambled, which made the lectures a bit boring at times. Apparently, he's also made some comedy albums, which is a bit peculiar since that didn't really come through in his teaching.
