Very nice, gives good ideas, sometimes old fashioned but its cute
doesn't teach a whole lot, more of a babysitter... but overall not bad
ok professor, tells really lame jokes, boring class
acts dorky..nice..has a comb over!
Nice guy, Funny,
lame jokes, great guy, very flexible (with work)
He was very good at helping students brainstorm ideas
atleast he doesn't make you work hard
Very flexible. Lame jokes. Class is about stuff we've learned in 2nd grade.
friendly, helpful, understanding, leanient, he is dorky, but i loved this class
Real cool guy. Really helpful.
VERY easy class! Nerdy, but cool.
Lame jokes, but a nice guy. Class is easy. Bottom line, TAKE HIM!
Its not an easy course, he just makes it look like it. He is a good teacher.
Easy class, easy teacher, take this class (just ignore the jokes)
No, he is not an easy teacher he just makes it feel like.
Very cool guy and doesn't make you buy a book, take him!
Real nice, grades good, keeps class interesting with his corny jokes
Geat prof, helps as much as he can, relaxed about deadlines
boring, lets you get away with anything, easy, write papers night before due
nice guy, insightful comments, keeps things interesting, a bit boring at times.
Very nice. Always willing to help. Work not hard if you show up for class.
great prof, very nice and helpful, just dont take this class too early in the am
wrote the papers the night before they were due, left early every day,
VERY easy. If you can write no need to come, too bad there is attendance!
he didn't really help me that much with what i needed help with, vague comments
Nice and understanding. You can ignore most due dates and not attend class. Glad I had him.
No need to worry about the due dates. Just write e-mails during lab and ignore him the rest of the time.
Very nice guy, tries to joke around with the class. Gives due dates, but isn't strict in enforcing them.
Not bad. Kind of funny. Nice guy
Excellent Professor!!
Easy class, great prof., papers aren't really due until the end of the semester, as long as you turn in your papers and go to class, you will pass.
Awesome class! Very easy... you'll pass if you turn everything in. His due dates are always lengthened. Funny guy!
fun teacher
He is a funny guy. The problem with the course isn't with him, but with the portfolio being evaluated by other profs that you don't know. His suggestions do help though and he's a lot of fun.
Great teacher, funny, nice, doesn't take attendance in an attendance-required class. If you don't turn in assignments, he just waits for you to turn them in until later
What a cool guy! Class isn't that great but he's fun.
He is a really good teacher. He gave us everything that we needed to know and was very lenient with the due dates. Skip Lubic and take him!
He is a great person. He is willing to help and offers constructive criticism. I would choose him over any other writing professor.
Funny guy. Class is boring unless he gets off topic, then its hilarious. Always extends due dates, but will keep you till the very end of class. But still, nice guy, helpful, funny.
He is a very easy writing prof. You can pick paper topics youself, but class is very boring. Does NOT let you leave early. Didnt really seems to edit my paper much.
BEST WRITING PROF EVER!!!!! TAKE HIM!!! very cool, very lenient. deadlines aren't set in stone, and neither are the topics for the papers. very good prof... get him now
Great teacher, very interesting, very knowledgeable on subject matter. Very fair and student centered. Teaches the way a college professional should, hard but not does not make student jump through impractical hoops. Great guy!
very cool guy, makes lame jokes, but thats whats funny about him. easy to get him off subject and he doesnt mind. extends due dates, nothing set in stone. can be very helpful on editing papers.
An awesome prof! Get him for WRT 150 if possible! He's a funny guy, and really wants to help you with your papers. He'll read them anytime you want him too. Doesn't really care when you hand them in and the topics are basically open topics.
Nice guy, bad jokes, good conversation, open topics, relates to students well, is much more relaxed than other professors perhaps a bit to lenient on some things...but no one seems to mind that.
awesome class, i don't like to write but he makes it very easy. I wish all of my professors were like him. I strongly recommend him.
What an excellent prof!!! I was nervous about the class, but he helped me so much and it really paid off in the end. He is real with his students and tries to really make it clear what the porfolio group is looking for and what you can do to inprove your papers. Definately take him for WRT 150
He's a really good professor for the class...I'm really glad I had him for it. I just wich he would give actual due dates for the papers....
He is a very nice guy who is respected by his colleagues. I should know. I'm one of them! He's good at what he does, very helpful to students and very thoughtful and intense at his work. Take him! You'll learn a lot!
very good professor. this is a hard class no matter who you have. But this professor really gets your ideas to flow well on the papers.
This guy is one of the best english prof's you could get, that does not mean it will be easy but it does mean he is very easy going and helpful. Only down side is his handwriting is chicken scratch so you might have to ask him to read what he wrote to you, no biggie
I loved this prof-very easy to talk to and he relates to students well-hard class but he makes it really fun-DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!!
I did not learn anything in this class. Definitely easy, but definitely a waste of time. He tries to make jokes but they aren't funny. He's moderately helpful. You could definitely get a better prof.
Prof. Hulst was so much fun to have. His jokes sometimes are lame, but you can't help but laugh at them. He's very easy going and he's very approachable so you can improve your writing and get the help you need without intimidation. You don't necessarily learn tons of new concepts, but you will improve your writing.
really helpful when you ask
Super nice guy, easy and caring.
awesome guy... love the jokes...
The class was fine. He was always available to help students and gave comments on all the papers I turned in which helped me to get the B+.
Craig is an amazing writing teacher, he helped me improve my writing and made sure that I had all the tools necessary to get a solid grade in his course. I recommend him to anyone who is taking WRT 150 next semester.
Prof Hulst is Fresh 2 Death. jokes were lame, but just let him laugh. He's a great teacher, and has a great knowledge of the subject. he's always willing to help out, and very leniant on due dates. Extremely nice.
You can tell he loves to teach and very enthusiastic about it! Even though he says he doesn't grade on who you are, I feel that participating in class helped me to get an A. He helps you with your papers and the topics were interesting. I thought he made this class as interesting as it could have been.
He is an awesome prof. Very helpful and full of spirit all the time. He really seems to care about his job, writing and the students he works with. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Prof. Hulst is sweet. I have never been a strong writer but he worked with you and was very layed back. If you plan on taking 098 i would definetly recommend this teacher.
Gives students a lot of freedom with their writing.
Very good professor very helpful
You will like this professor. He is nice, easy and helpful. One of my best professors!
He was such a joke! Such an easy professor. I've never loved writing, but I got a 10/10 on every paper I turned in. As long as you don't miss class more than 4 times and turn in all your drafts, you'll (most likely) get an A or high B. Bad jokes, but he tried!
Very helpful class. His lectures were informative. There's a lot of points in this class(5,000 I think) so don't worry if you do bad on a few assignments. Other than the blackboard assignments, we just work on a paper from another class. Final is optional if you pass the midterm. I recommend him. Tells some corny jokes too
Professor Hulst is dedicated to the craft of teaching writing. It is difficult to get the best out of each student when there are 20-30 students in each class, not to mention that he may be teaching other classes, but Professor Hulst manages such a feat. His jokes are great if you are cerebral enough to get them. If you think they're lame...well.
Nice guy, relaxing lectures. The constant peppering of puny blackboard assignments is annoying though. His "jokes" (if you can call them that) are so terrible they actually manifest as physical pain in your frontal lobe. Still, this is the guy you want to take WRT 305 with.
He is a swell guy. His jokes are different, but funny. Knows a lot of stuff. Lectures are a bit boring if no says anything. Good professor though. Recommended
I had him for both WRT 098 and 150. I loved his class. He is very clear as far as writing is concern! If he says your paper sucked, well was not your best, don't get mad, he is being honest. It's always good to have a WRT Prof. who is honest; when you turn in your portfolio, no surprises will come! LOL. He makes class fun, I thought! Recommended
Professor Hulst is great! WRT 305 was a very useful class! I would highly recommend taking the class even if you don't need too - and I would take it with him. He makes the class worth while, and he is very helpful!
Great professor! I didn't want to take the class but I'm glad I did. Learned a lot and he's an overall cool guy. I would recommend him for any class he teaches.
Very easy class, you get four absences, online quizzes you can take multiple times, online grammar exercises that can be taken multiple times as well. Lectures are boring, but he tries hard with jokes. Overall nice guy, but very boring class.
Hulst is a great professor. Very laid back class, and very helpful when we need questions. Shortened spring course consisted of 4 papers and 25 grammar exercises. I would definitely recommend him.
Ok teacher...oh deff. Hott...haha...here's your chili pepper!
I learned so much from this class!! He is a great professor but extremely difficult. You have to do a lot of online exercises almost every day! I wound up with a B+ You don't write any papers he just teaches you strategies in writing and about punctuation and whatnot. Glad I took the class because now I am getting As for all my papers!
I absolutely loved Hulst. Such a great, funny, nice, approachable guy. I learned a lot in this class. I would recommend taking this class with him.
I enjoyed having Craig as a professor. He is an easy going guy and is very helpful. He jokes around in class and tries not to make it too boring. The assignments are pretty easy and if you have trouble with something he will most likely just tell you the answer. He made the class enjoyable and relaxing.
Professor Hulst definitely gave you the information necessary to pass the class, and prepared useful tips that were helpful in creating solid papers. However, if you were already a fairly proficient writer yet wanted to improve as a writer, this seemed to be out of his realm of instruction.
Awsome!!
Absolutely loved this prof. He is very nice and helpful. He goes out of his way to get to know you and is honestly interested in helping you become a better writer. He likes to joke around and it makes class much easier to handle. Always open to questions. Totally recommend him.
This class was great, he played on the level of students. I would recommend taking this class! He was not judgmental at all when reading papers with topics that would normally be frowned upon. Take this class Craig is great and helpful always!
Professor Hulst does an excellent job of explaining the general concept of what he is expecting for the assigned papers. HIs handwriting may be bad, but his personality, stories, and egoistical sense of humor out weigh any bad that students might have with him.
I loved this class. Professor Hulst made it really fun for everyone, he tries to avoid long lectures and if he ends up getting into one he makes sure he isn't boring us to death. He is extremely helpful and encourages that you take advantage of every possibility you have. I learned a lot from him. If you can, DEFINITELY take him!
Professor Hulst was my absolute favorite. I loved how personable he was and that had a sense of humor. Deffinately recommend his class to any incoming freshman, or anyone needing this course. He was extremely helpful and clear about what he was looking for.
Great Professor classes are easy and helpful.
Great teacher! He loves what he does and the papers are not very hard. He assigns in total 5 papers, deadlines can be flexible. He understands that everyone differs with their writing ability and grades according to that. Lectures are a bit slow and boring but his humor is amusing. Take him for an stress free class.
Professor Hulst was my favorite professor this semester. He was so nice and always keeps the class fun. Besides your portfolio (which is a lot of work no matter which professor you have), there isn't a lot of other class work. You're allowed to miss the class four times throughout the semester so don't worry about getting sick.
Absolutely LOVED this prof! He is so easy going and understanding, and on top of that he's super helpful and kind. His humor is fun, and he really made the class enjoyable for me. Take him for sure! Compared to what I hear about other profs, he's the best!
Definitely the most helpful professor I've had here at GVSU. Very personable. Expects good attendance. Expects participation in discussion and labs. Provides helpful reading material for his class that also proves fairly helpful in other classes. Class is easy to get an A in because he really gives you all of the resources you will need to succeed.
The best professor that I have ever come across here at gvsu. If you have the opportunity to take his class please do! Im not a writing person at all and I did great in this class. He is always making jokes which makes this class even more interesting. TAKE THIS CLASS! you will not regret it by any means. S/O to prof hulst for being the best prof!!
This guy made writing so easy for me! He was awesome and so so so so helpful. Very slow to get papers back, he always made up excuses, but in class he was willing to help with anything. Take him!! Especially compared to what I hear about other WRT150 professors, he's awesome.
HE IS GREAT! TAKE HIM!
He is such a helpful teacher and he will always work you to make sure you get your work done and understand what you are doing. A great teacher and I recommend him for writing.
He is a very helpful, and nice guy. I would advise that if you have the chance take him.
This professor is as layed back and funny as it gets! He often tells ice breaker jokes that arent funny at all but he laughs at himself making it hilarious. Take this class if you arent a skilled writer!
Craig is an awesome guy. If you need an extension on a paper, he'll give it to you, all you have to do is ask. The topics for the papers are easy, and he's taught me to be a better writer. One of the best professors on campus, no doubt.
Hulst is dry and his class can drag on sometimes, but overall he is helpful and does give feedback for your portfolio. He is a good guy and it is easy to receive a good grade.
He was a cool guy but he did not give helpful feedback to prepare your portfolio. He did not give feedback that would help the overall grade of your papers. His lectures did not give information that would help improve your papers. Take anybody but him if you want a good grade for this class.
Professor Hulst is great. Very good with students and easy to talk to. Gives solid feedback on your papers and genuinely cares about his students. Would highly recommend taking his course!
The challenge with this class is that he does not grade for an A but grades for improvement. The final grade does not come from him but from other profs. Make the writing center your friends and go weekly.
Not clear on papers. Said everything looked good, but still game a bad grade. Do not trust his comments on your papers.
By the end of this class you will know how to write good papers, and you will have a portfolio of well written papers. Prof. Hulst wants your papers to be the best they can be, so he guides you though many drafts of each paper throughout the course. He also provides good supplementary readings and information to make you a better writer.
Great guy. Understands that life happens if you have to miss class. Great feedback on papers/assignments. Adjust to his feedback and participate in writing consultant groups when available and you'll ace your final portfolio. He has an awkward sense of humor but it's funny. Best class I had all semester.
Always there to help, assignments aren't hard if you have a computer. accepts late assignments within reason. Doesn't expect you to know things and works off of what you know/need to learn. I would definitely recommend him to everyone I know
Great guy, offers extra credit. I went in during an office hour and we just talked about fallout, one of my least favorite classes but favorite professor.
He's a great prof that knows what he's talking about. His humor is very dry but I think he's hilarious bc of it. Gives many chances for ec and is great for wrt 150.
TAKE HIM! So easy and made class and the papers so much easier to want to go to and write.
He is hilarious. I always looked forward going to this class. He is caring and gives good feedback on essays. Lectures can be boring but its not terrible. All in all great professor.
Fantastic Professor for a dreaded freshman class. I am a horrible writer and this class was a lot easier than I thought with him. Genuinely cares. Makes class engaging. Wants to see you succeed. Take his class if you can!!
Craig is an amazing professor, from the first day of class he was interesting and made sure we knew what we where doing. I wish he taught other classes that I needed to take
He's a really great teacher and I definitely will take him again if possible. He gives great feedback on papers and tells you up front what he's thinking instead of skirting around it. Very helpful and makes it easy to know what you need to do to get a good grade in the class.
I'm not one for much writing, but this professor knows his stuff. His main goal for teaching is not about giving a grade, but making sure you know how to write and how to write well. He was a little quirky but he's super chill and I'd take his class again!
Very funny professor and is very easy on his students. He does challenge you and your papers, but in a good way. I would take him again for WRT 150 in a heartbeat. He makes the class more interesting and most of the information is useful. You write four papers, but only choose three for the portfolio. There is some in-class assign. and a few essays.
While writing 150 is a tough class, professor Hulst does a great job at making the best possible. He is there for his students, and will help as much as possible. 100% would have him as a prof again!
Really funny guy, always is telling jokes and has a sense of humor. Your final grade will be the grade of your papers, but thats the set up of the program. You do have to go to class for a grade (but dont have to participate really) but if you put in the little effort out of class its an easy A/B .
He is very kind and flexible with class work while being upfront about student responsibilities. Great teacher and works with you, but not a pushover. Put in the effort and you will do well in his class.
I would definitely recommend Hulst for WRT 150. He is very understanding and always willing to help out. Communicate with him if you ever have issues within the class and you'll be fine. Keep up with your drafts because it can be easy to get behind.
Craig is one of the most flexible writing professors at GV for first year writing! Gives good feedback on every draft, and is really understanding of any situation you might find yourself in. An easier grader than most, but portfolios are graded by multiple profs. Schedule him if you can!!
Great guy, very helpful when it comes to grading criteria on your papers. Very easy going in class, gives you plenty of time to work on your papers, fun to have a conversation with.
I hate writing, but Prof. Hulst does a great job teaching it. I wasn't a fan of the course as writing is hard for me, but he is a great professor. He is always clear about expectations, assigns minimal reading and extra assignments. He also gives great feedback on drafts. It's not an easy class, but that is not due to the prof.
I love professor Hulst he made me like to write when I dreaded the thought of it. He has lots of dad jokes which make me laugh.
Lectures can be pretty boring, but they are helpful. Professor Hulst gives good feedback on your rough drafts and is always willing to help. There are a lot of random assignments throughout the semester, but they are easy points so make sure to do them. Attendance is required for the most part, but you are allowed to miss up to 4 times.
Craig Hulst is literally the most dad guy ever. Hes very caring and gives good feedback. Lots of busy work but is worth it at the end for the + or - on your portfolio. Half the semester is writing your 4 drafts then the other half is revising the 3 you want for your portfolio. This set up was so helpful. Such a good prof! Take him if you can!
Great professor. Gives good feedback and he is always willing to help you with your papers in and out of class. He reminds me of the Don Carlton on Monsters University. Makes a lot of dad jokes and gives busy work but overall it is a great class.
I loved this guy he was one of my fav profs. He made WRT 150 less scary then what everyone says it is. Hes super laid back and you can miss up to four classes and still get attendance points. Just make sure you stay on top of your writing and dont let yourself fall behind and your golden.
Best dad jokes around. Super nice and supportive guy. Assignments are all easy but the essays take long. Keep up with drafts and don't wait until last minute to work on your portfolio. He's super understanding and jolly.
Professor Hulst was a very kind person and really cares about helping his students. the only thing I did not like about him was the comments he left on papers were pretty unhelpful. But besides that, I still definitely recommend him as a prof
He makes class fun and enjoyable. Always has the best dad jokes. Willing to help you. actually cares about you as a student and a writer. I would definitely take WRT150 with him if possible!!
Craig Hulst is an all around good guy. He gives very helpful feedback and makes class bearable.
Craig is a great professor. He s a very easy grader and cares a lot about his students. He always tells a dad joke at the beginning of class to make everyone smile.
I have never written a review before but Professor Hulst is one of my favorite Professors I have had so far. Truly cares about you and your work! It's an easy A and he gives you back good feedback. 10/10 recommend him as a teacher!
Professor Hulst was very understanding and considerate when it came to late work, you just have to communicate.
One of my favorite professors!! He is very caring and spends 60% of your class time telling dad jokes. He wasn't the best at giving feedback but it was the easiest A you'll ever get.
He cares about his students and their success. Loves to make dad jokes. Participation is not mandatory, but he really enjoys having students present to interact with. His powerpoints are organized and helpful. Grading is clear and done by rubric.
Prof. Hulst was very laid back and approachable. He only gives a few assignments outside of drafts and final papers you have to turn in. You're also allowed 6 absences, but he's lenient about this depending on what's going on in your life. His feedback on my papers were extremely helpful in perfecting them for my final portfolio. I got an A! :)
Professor Hulst is awesome. He is very caring and understands if you are having trouble keeping up. His class was very easy with a few easy assignments and essays. Attendance is mandatory, although I did not go very often and I still ended up with an A.
Dr. Hulst is a great professor! His class is very laid back, but attendance is mandatory. You get six absences a semester, but is very understanding when life gets in the way! The amount of work for this course is very durable and is fairly easy. He tells Dad jokes each class which is always funny to see what he comes up with. Overall I recommend!
Prof. Hulst is a cool, laidback guy who makes writing class actually enjoyable. While the essays can be time-consuming, his feedback is super helpful. He loves dad jokes and is always willing to lend a hand. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for study prep!
Very good and easy professor. Gives great feedback on papers and relatively easy grader. You're allowed 6 absences a semester for whatever reason but he's super flexible if you email him. I would recommend him for any writing class he teaches, easiest class I had.
Highly recommend Professor Hulst! He was always extremely helpful and always gave great feedback.
