Craig is an awesome teacher. I am not even one of his students, but i still go in the math lab to get help from him. He is really helpful and he is such a cool teacher.
Funny teacher during class, but goes too fast, and doesn't explain things clearly. He expects you to know most of the concepts. He just does a brief overview of most of the things and gives few examples. Quizes are once every week, 5 questions and are from hw. Test is really difficult, no questions from hw or labs. Although he's funny, not recomend
Ok this guy is a bad teacher, he goes too fast, doesnt explain things well at all. Everytime i was done wit his clas, i was in the math lab gettin taught the right way. He cracks lame jokes, this nerd gives out tons of homework everynite, im talkin 2 hours worth wit the labs. i DO NOT recommend takin him, u wont learn, and only burn.
This class wasnt easy but i felt like i had learned a lot more than in previous classes when it was done. The tests are hard but he let us do corrections to boost our grade and the final was pretty reasonable. Overall a pretty good teacher if your serious about school.
Kutil is a pretty good teacher I think. If you think there is a magic math teacher who is going to teacher you everything and be super easy, youre wrong. But kutil is a nice guy, hes pretty funny, and he has a weird sense of style.
He doesn't let you use calculators and he makes you write out the directions and problems to all homework assignments. If you have trouble in algebra, this is not a good teacher. He goes way too fast and is unclear. Prepare to spend double the amount of hours necessary in the lab to have another teacher explain things clearly and patiently.
he cares but you gotta be on the ball everyday for a daily quiz and an average of 75 problems for homework
Kutil's class is not a cakewalk, but it is very passable. You come away learning a lot in his class. He assigns a lot of homework-expect 1-2hrs per assignment-and if you do it and work to understand it, you will do well in his class. His lectures are pretty clear and he touches on political humor which keeps things interesting and entertaining.
I had him for an 8 am class. I don't know if he is just grumpy in the mornings, but he was extremely rude. He is unapproachable because it is clear he would rather be doing something else. However, he does know math very well and I'm sure if you get on his good side, he's fun and off-beat, but there are few of those students.
Kutil is one of the best math teachers i've had. He really knows this stuff, but i'm warning you that this is probably the hardest math class you'll ever take, but you will definately learn a lot. If you ask the right questions and get help you'll definately succeed in his class. Plus, he's pretty funny/interesting in his hippy-ish kind of way.
Craig is one cool cat. Even though he is one of the toughest teachers I have had at Las Po, I have a lot of respect for the man. My tips to succeeding in his class: keep up on your homework, always ask questions if he skips steps, and don't be intimidated by him (especially on the first day of class) this Craig guy is a real interesting character
He is like a super math genius!! Definitely knows what he's doing. Literally looks over your shoulder to see if your doing your math right. He repeatedly says when his office hours are so you can get help. Most are intimidated by him on the first day but wait a while b/c he is hilarious! He jokes during his lectures, which most aren't lame either.
mr. kutil is a stud-muffin... what a hottie. a pretty good teacher, too, but more dreamy than anything else. Let's just say, I wish i was a derivative so that I could be tangent to his curve. MmmMm
He sets the bar relatively high and wants his students to do well. In my opinion, should be teaching at a university level. His class was tough especially during the summer but I am extremely prepared for Calculus after taking his class. Don't expect to not work hard though. Only regret: Couldn't take him for Calc.
This guy knows what he's doing although he can be really hard if you dont work a lot on homework etc. I personally thinks he has something that makes his attractive mmmm
super quick pace (took pre calc over the summer)..hrs and hrs of hmwrk EVERY night..and quiz everyday w/out fail....He is willing to help ..but be sure to ask lots of questions- or else he just flies through everything. Hella funny hippy dude ...
DO NOT ASK HIM QUESTIONS DURING CLASS HE DOES NOT CARE TO ANSWER BUT HE'LL HELP YOU DURING HIS OFFICE HRS. DURING HIS OFFICE HRS I REALIZED HOW HOT HE IS IN THAT WEIRD MATH NERD/INDIE ROCKER SORTA WAY. IF YOU ARE A FAN OF PLAID, MATH, AND REAL (NOT RATIONAL) MEN TAKE HIS CLASS! HEHE. PUN INTENDED. I WONDER IF HE HAS A GF? I'LL BE THE X TO HIS Y.
The way you get an A in Kutil's class is: go to every single class, copy down every example, he goes really fast so slow him down if you need to!, turn in all hw if you could do the hw problems you can ace the exams. Ask questions if ur lost! Go to his office hrs for help that what they are their for. Attempt everything you will get points maybe!
Excelent math 107y teacher. he's a nice teacher who helps you. if your taking any x or y course take it with him trust me he's cool...
Kutil is a very good teacher, but it is extremely difficult to get an A in his class. He knows his stuff, but for our class, he was teaching out of a different book, so it was kind of hard to study for his exams. To pass his class, you have to "think critically", and not just be thoughtless robots (in his words). BTW, his humor can be insulting.
I dont know how anyone could ever say he is a good teacher or NICE! are you kidding me? he is honestly the biggest jerk of a teacher i have ever had! He makes rude remarks and gets pissy if you whisper one measly word! all i can say is if you see this guys name on your schedule...RUN FOR THE HILLS. He will make you miserable! ugly & baldin, not hot
He is definitely THE HARDEST math teacher at LPC..but you do learn a lot. Take his math class if you want to learn.not if you want a good grade. People who struggle dont ask qtns in lecture so ask..To succeed in his class..do all hwk, do extra problems, get help in ilc,do 30 mins of math everyday, and everything is cumulative and builds upon itself
Mr. Kutil's class was different from any other class I've ever taken. Yes he's difficult but that's college! There will be a lot of hw assigned and the tests will be challenging. He makes them difficult but allows you to do test corrections which I believe is a great method to help students understand what they did wrong. If you get to know him as a person, visit his office hours, etc you will know that he really wants his students to succeed, not by taking the easy route but through hard work.
Prepare to do a lot of homework assignments. For my class we went through about 400-500 problems as assignment. If you want an A just do the assignments and you'll be on track for a good grade. Exams are a bit tough but the final is quite easy, so don't worry. He is helpful and knows his stuff. PS: Never talk during his lecture!
Mr. Kutil is a very difficult prof. but also very knowledgeable of math. He is available and willing to help in class/office hours. Be prepared to have an intensive work/study load. He has daily quizzes and his expectations are very high. He aims to be the most difficult prof at Las Po. Take him if you want to learn, NOT if you want a good grade.
He definitely is a hard teacher; however, he is willing to help. If you're confused on something, go to his office and ask for help. Going to his office was really helpful. The exams are pretty hard, and there are daily quizzes. This class requires a lot of studying and dedication. He is a pretty nice guy. Just make sure you to attend office hours.
Mr Kutil has to be one of the hardest professors on campus, but you learn so much from him. Tons of homework, very difficult at times Very helpful one on one, and he's very entertaining. His exams are killer, and his in class quizes can be pretty tricky. Talk to him, ask him questions, show him you actually care about your education.
Loved him!!! Great sense of humor
HARDEST TEACHER OF MY LIFE.and also called the hardest math teacher at lpc.if you want to learn a lot and not get a good grade take his class.Tips 4 survival: do all the hwk, go for help, read the txtbook, understand it fwds n backwrds and do as many hard math problems in the book as u can.funny guy but makes your life harder than he should.
Great Teacher- Passionate, Funny, VERY Helpful, & Fairly Clear, but he makes the class more difficult than what it should be. He prides himself as one of the most difficult math teachers @LPC & it's true! He assigns a ton of HW & his quizzes/exams are killer! Not an easy A, but you will learn so much.
He's my best Math teacher till now. He's hard but he's really kind and helpful. He's cool and does care about his students a lot ( just the ones that need his help ). Grading is pretty hard. Daily quizzes, tough exams. To succeed in his class: try to follow what he says in class, try to understand what the book says and clearly understand the examp
Great prof. Many say he is hard, though i had him for an x/y class, so i never experienced the wrath of 100+ problems in one assignment. He is willing to help at any time and will explain things you got wrong so you can understand it.
This man is too legit to quit. All the people who put hateful remarks on this site about him probably failed his class because they did not try (you'll be lucky if you have him). He's honestly the best professor at Las Positas and makes my current Calculus teacher look stupid. He's dope. Period.
He's a brutal teacher in a really bad way. He does not lecture well at all, and his exams are ridiculous. He's a really cool and funny guy, but his class is not worth it. He over complicates things in a way that gives unnecessary stress and results in horrible grades. I know others who are extremely skilled in math who failed his class. Be warned.
Well, I don't take this man for Calc this semester but his tests are not ridiculous like somebody said recently. His goal is to test your limit of understanding the material. Sometimes it's a real challenge, but still better than other easy math teachers at LPC. Remember Maths is not about memorizing but fully understanding all concepts.
Want to attend religiously, do all the work and still fail when you've never failed before? TAKE THIS GUY! For all others, find someone, anyone else!
Kutil talks about random stuff frequently. He gives hard tests that people cannot ace without mastering the concepts inside out. So if you are looking for an easy A, his classes are the last places on Earth to look at. He does not like to apply math as a tool: He teaches only how to do math. Take his class only if you want to challenge yourself.
If you are the type of student that puts in minimal effort and studies only at exam time, you won't do well in any of his classes. Make sure to take really good notes, because some of what he tests on isn't in the book. Go to his office hours! He truly wants everyone to pass his classes, but it all depends on your commitment to learn and to study.
On one hand, he's a really cool dude; very funny and his lectures are entertaining. On the other hand, he's a brutal professor and his exams require total mastery of the chapter, plus some, like memorizing formulas from lower level classes. No notes on tests. Homework has to be perfect or else you get a 0 on it, but homework doesn't count for much.
If you don't study for his exams, you're gonna have a bad time.
I had him a few semesters ago while I was taking 18 units. I'm an Art major, and I still got an A. Take notes, pay attention, and do the problems in the book. I did every problem in the book multiple times between classes. You get what you put into it. Also he's a cool guy and I missed him when I eventually went into Calc.
He's a good professor. He wants to challenge you so you're well prepared for the next math classes. You need to put in a lot of time to do well in his class and get the most out of it. He's also an entertaining guy with lots of funny stories. I enjoyed his lectures and I recommend him to anybody who's devoted to learning math.
Absolutely the worst teacher I have ever had. He rambles in class about himself. He puts things on the exams that were both not covered in class and not in the txtbook. He does not hand back graded homework. He talks fast and is confusing, and then when you ask a question, he makes you feel dumb in front of the class. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
not for procrastinators/slackers. great lecturer, funny, but rants which keeps things relaxed. kinda rude and offensive, take him lightly. tests are HARD! but gives direct advice how to do well which i ignore.go to office hrs, do hw REGULARLY.also got rid of his glasses and long hair. that and his crazy personality = HOT. but i heard he has a gf :(
VERY HARD
He expects you to have a strong math foundation. Perfect algebra, perfect calculus 1 skills. If you don't have any of these mastered, you will struggle. His tests are absolutely brutal and he gives no pity points. Good luck passing the class. I got an A in Calculus but still managed to drop out of his class due to his extremely difficult exams.
Mr. Kutil has sufficient knowledge of all of the material, but presents it in a way that if you do not have complete mastery of the foundations, you will most likely have to study on your own. I tried my best to succeed in this class, but the tests were very different from what we covered in class ( I felt), and had a hard time recovering.
Kutil expects you to work and be able to transfer to a university. He's not going to let you leave his class with a subpar understanding. His expectations match universities. He respects his students to prepare them well and gives the resources needed to do it. All of the answers are there, you just need determination and perseverance to find them.
Craig Kutil introduced himself on the first day by telling us of the 30 students that registered for his last calculus 2 class, 8 made it to the final, and he passed 4. If you have not already earned a PhD in math, and are not a deity, you will not pass his exams. Those of you taking him because he's the only open class, there's a reason for it.
His way of teaching is confusing where he explains to students like he's talking to professors. He is very strict. Don't take him if you want to get an A.
Prepare to fail! Kutil prides himself in being one of the hardest teachers on campus. It should come as no surprise that the majority fail his courses. Hw counts for nothing & tests are overly complicated intentionally. He stated he only curves DOWN. If you need a grade, look elsewhere. Auditing is the only sane option unless you enjoy a struggle.
Too difficult. He expects you to understand the material before covering in class . Tests are finals from previous courses and he will not curve a bad class average . Homework counts for no pointS. Think twice before you subject yourself to his courses. You have been warned !
Extremely difficult and teaches as if you are going to pick teaching mathematics as your career. Asking for help is useless because sometimes he barks at you for asking a question. Requires a lot of studying. If you are ready to put in at least 3 hours a day for his class for studying then take his class.
Kutil knows math quite well. But, his teaching and comm. are Horrid No immediate feedback due to his aversion to grading hw & lack of quizes, until failing a test which is the majority of your grade. I often wonder why he chose teaching as a profession as he fails to understand the role of + feedback. He should be crunching #s not instructing!
Poor instruction. Final Grade is 90% test based . Makes you look and feel stupid when asking questions in front of the class. Prepare to spend endless hours in the math lab or with a tutor in order to keep pace as the class is one speed regardless of overall student understanding. His speed. Even then, you will be lucky to scrape a c. Not worth it!
Funny guy. Does not like to be challenged or corrected by students. Takes the term weeder class to a whole new level. Feels the education system has failed students and is determined to punish undergrads through combinations of brutal overly complex test problems poor instruction and unrealistic expectation. Dont do it! likes smaller classes anyhow
Pretty smart nerd. Must have had no fun in college based on his teaching style. Very into himself . Enjoys making you look bad should you decide to speak up in class. If you keep his pace and take exams well , go for it . Otherwise don't. Egotistical people are difficult to please.
All I have to say is that due to the financial cuts he allowed about 25 other students to add the class but at the end of the semester (by which time I had dropped) he only had 8/9 students passed. He made the smart students look dumb. And he prides himself on that! He might also mention that none of us are special in any way.
Craig Kutil is a strict instructor who has been known to fail the majority of his students by over complicating the teaching process by overloading students. Should you take his courses, enjoy receiving a lower grade than deserved due to a supposed narcissistic attitude towards those under him. You will cover every single chapter and every problem.
In this class there are four tests which are the only things that pull any weight. I tried to master the content he was teaching with FIERCE determination yet I still failed the tests. After failing the second test I dropped. Don't take his class because he has a negative attitude and structures the class against you.
As everybody says, he is unfair. He picks things he may have mentioned in about 5 seconds (not an exaggeration) and uses them as exam questions. My advice: Go to Chabot College. They have some great math profs (Professor Fouquet and Batchelor.) Definitely take them before others, but Yest is good for diffeq. Not a great linear prof, but it worked.
I have never had a problem getting further explanation when I dont understand, though I have noticed I am one of very few who are willing to ask. Biggest issue is an attitude that many apparently find unapproachable. requires you to actually learn material. Don't take if you just need to pass calc. Take if you are going to higher math.
I passed this class and I feel I can do anything if I put my mind to it. It's like a true IQ test. He is a little nerdy and makes a lot of movie/South Park references. Despite that, the material stacks up so if you do not understand one thing make sure you get it before you move on.
This will be the most difficult class you have ever taken. You will not succeed unless you give this class your all. Exams are ridiculously hard. I always considered myself strong in mathematics, but this class demolished that. This was the first "C" I have rec'd in my life. Very strict with talking and phones. I truly wish you good luck.
I'm taking Math 1 with him this semester and I fell miserable.Worst teacher Ive had in my life.During lecture, there are two of his favorite subjects that he obsesses talking about are his ex and his new car which no ones is really interested in. The tests are ridiculous hard and had nothing to do with his lecture. Good luck guys!
Great teacher! Had calc 1 with him. Started with class full of students, ended with 18-19 students taking final. Tests are hard but you'll be fine if you study. you have to remember your trig identities and logarithms and have to do every homework if you want to do well on the test. Final was easier than midterms.
This class was excruciatingly hard. The things that he covers he teaches well, but the tests always were as difficult as possible. He is extremely demeaning and condescending towards students, making you feel dumb for not knowing something. His ego is huge and he always has to point out his new car and how he does martial arts. He has the potential to be a good teacher but lacks any compassion or ability to understand that not everyone is math wizards when they walk in. Super tough class.
Hard class, but if you pay attention, take good notes, and do the homework it's possible to get an A.
The tests won't be that hard if you do all your homework and pay attention to what he said what is gonna be on the tests
Craig was a great professor. I had him a few semesters back for Calc 2, and contrary to many of the reviews I got along with him quite well. If you are socially conscious, play into his game. He does have an ego, don't let it bother you. If you make a solid effort at getting to know him and go to office hours, he is exceptionally helpful.
Expects professionalism from students. Harsh reputation however never unclear with expectations. Follow his rules and take his advice. You have to take the class seriously and work at it consistently in order to do well. Do homework right away to stay on pace. Skipping assignments and cramming is a guaranteed fail.
Sometimes it's hard to keep up and understand but he makes things clear when you are working with him one on one. He assigns tons and tons of homework but it's not due until the next week. He is a strict grader and his tests are hard.
Don't take math with him!! He is the worst teacher I've ever had at this college. He is rude, and he does not care if students succeed or not.
Craig Kutil definitely lives up to his name as being the hardest teacher on campus and he definitely likes to brag about it. His lectures were very fast and confusing and you need to work 3+ hours a day out of class. His tests were extremly difficult and count for about 90% of your grade. I dropped after the second test. I recommend anyone but him.
This professor only has a reputation as being tough because he does not lower the standard for what he expects a class to know in order to pass. Just show up for every lecture, do all of the homework as soon as possible, and then review your material before tests. Especially the applied questions. MATH 5 was challenging, but fun to learn from him.
He is a cool and funny teacher but the class itself is very difficult! He takes it to the next level, so if you are really interested in statistics then take him, but if you just want credits out of the way then don't. He warns you that you need to study and do the homework and he isn't kidding. Labs must be 100% correct, even down to formatting.
Prof Kutil is very intelligent and knows what he's talking about. He comes across as tough at the beginning just to scare the weak ones away but he opens up and is there for you. DO THE HOMEWORK, ASK QUESTIONS. He is there for you, and stresses that. Read ahead before lectures because he moves quickly. Overall very informative and fair.
I am not sure why anyone would want to brag about being the toughest prof. on campus. He does it a lot. A huge ego too. I feel like his goal is to fail students instead of helping them. He gives really hard tests that are out of context and doesn't give a fair grades. No extra credits given, most points depend on the tests. Would not choose him.
Kutil was good. He makes it clear what he expects on exams and what we should do. Lectures are straightforward but a make sure you pay attention. Ignoring homework won't immediately effect your grade, but since this is calc, I recommend doing it. Labs, quizzes, exams should be done EXACTLY as he tells you to. Overall great prof
Worst Instructor I have ever had.
Craig pretends to be a rule maker and abider but he only adjusts them to his wishes. He yelled at a girl to stop texting in class then proceeded to say forget it, get out of my class. She only had her phone on her lap and wasnt texting. Belittles his students who asks, and will make you feel stupid. Overall one the worst teachers I ever had.
I was passing the class up until the last test before the final and because I failed the last test, he wouldn't let me take the final in order to get a grade....
Professor Kutil is an honest and transparent teacher. He tells you exactly what is needed to pass his class on day one. Do the homework, study, and come to class and you are guaranteed to pass. This is definitely not an easy class. Kutil is an excellent professor, but if you are lazy with homework, I would recommend choosing a different professor.
Comes off as egotistical and aggressive. Glazes over steps and material. Can interact with students in a more positive and encouraging way. Can focus on helping students understand the material instead of talking about his "friends/students" making six figures. Overall: Smart guy, more encouragement to students and less "self-absorbed" rambles.
He takes pride in being the hardest math teacher at a ccc. I dropped the class with a W. He seems to know his stuff, but I don't feel comfortable with his teaching. His tests, study guides, and homework is different. I feel like he is trying to fail students with crazy difficulty instead of setting them up for success
Like everyone else said the guy has a painfully big ego BUT he is also a genuinely nice guy. Unfortunately it just doesnt seem like he enjoys teaching THAT much. It seems as though he likes people who naturally comprehend math and may find it hard to relate to and show patience to those who dont. Dont take him if you struggle with math
wasn't very helpful and also rude and has an attitude, doesn't seem like he wants to help students in any way. wouldn't take him again
A lot of students will say he is difficult, and they are right. He is by far the toughest professor I've had and I am extremely thankful to him for it. His methods and standards prepared me for when I transferred to UC Davis. He's not exactly conventional, but if you want to learn, he'll most definitely prepare you for university-level material.
This guy is a complete jerk. He is rude and aggressive and will not stop talking about himself on a daily & how godly he thinks he is. It's literally torture going to his class and he acts like we're supposed to be impressed by him. He clearly does not enjoy teaching, he treats you like your an idiot and expects you to know the material.
Good lecturer, doesn't collect homework, doesn't give extra credit. My class was graded solely on tests and the few labs he had us do. Great class if you want to be challenged, but it's a TOUGH course. Do homework he suggests, and study HARD for the first test. You don't want to fail it and have to fight the rest of class to keep your grade up.
He is really tough, but he's the no-nonsense type. His exams are hard, but definitely manageable. He cares about teaching and making sure students are prepared for the next math course they're going to take. If you work hard you will do fine. Great teacher
I took Prof Kutil's jiu-jitsu class for PE credits and for the first time with this type of class made it very easy and worked in steps for instruction. Very good at explaining the functions of the moves he teaches and his expertise for many fighting styles and experiences are special. His math reviews don't seem great but as a person he's genuine.
He is the type of guy you want to like but find it hard when he wastes class time with non-essential things and glossing things he should be detailed about. I was frustrated because I had to teach myself the entire course. He makes things unnecessarily hard. If you don't know how to teach yourself math from the textbook, maybe take someone else.
