I am horrible at math, but this stats class was so interesting to me. This teacher is awesome and explains everything clearly.
mccarthy is a mix between tom green and chris farley. hilarious canadian guy! uses beers in examples -- i love it! great class... i'm usually not great in math but he made it fun. highly reccommended.
Awesome class, hilarious teacher. Knows his stuff and tells it to us... in beer terms. Perfect form of interaction with college students. Love this Canadian!
Dr. McCarthy is great! I had this class at 8 am and loved it! I am not great in math, but he explains it so well and is so helpful you can't help but do well. Always available for help. Will talk hockey and curling till he turns blue. Super guy!
McCarthy is an interesting fellow. He makes statistics really easy. You should definitely take this guy, especially if you don't know what a freshie is. Go Canada!
Coolest Canuck you can have for a class. He made stats fun to go to and he always explained things right off using good examples such as gambling stories and beer examples.always told main mistakes people make on each section we covered. He rocks!!!
mean. He tries to be fun, but i think he seriously wants anyone who doesn't kiss butt to fail. He gets very angry with people that don't make stats their life. Can't ask for a more clear presentation of some difficult stuff tho. I recommend him if req'
You'll like his class
He's a crazy Canadian, eh? Okay, so he's a little funny, but overall, a pretty unapproachable guy. He doesn't really care much for the students. It's just a bunch of boring lectures, but it's fairly easy.
He goes above and beyond to make sure the student understand the material.
Real good teacher
McCarthy is nice, but sometimes goes postal over silly issues in class. I learned more from my Stats tutor than from him in all honesty. He rushes through complicated material and becomes frustrated with the struggles of the non-mathematically inclined.
The coolest Canadian since Dave Coulier, and without those damn impersonations. His classes can drag a bit, but if you do the work, it is very passible.
He's a nice guy and very willing to help students. Presents potentially difficult material in a really clear and easy-to-understand manner.
Very enthusiastic. Uses a lot of great examples in class. Really tries to get everyone to understand what he's talking about. Tests are kinda difficult, but fair.
Awesome! He's a busy guy, but he's VERY approachable and nice! I've gone in just to talk with him. He's very clear. Definitely try and get him for Stats!
He's a good teacher, and has a lot of enthusiasm for the course. Sometimes you may be confused, but he tries his very best to explain. Plus, he's open to questions and organizes study sessions. His grading system is very fair and appropriate as well
I liked this class a lot. The notes come mostly from a Homework Packet, so it's not always necessary to go to class. His tests were a lot like the homework he gives you. There's little reading, and a few extra credit opportunities.
He gave good, clear examples for everything and took the time to make a homework packet which I found very helpful. I would definitly recommend him.
Great prof! Everyone told me to take Psy stats with him, and they were right! He was great in class and made it easy to pay attention.

He is a very good teacher. He seems to know what he is talking about. Obviously. He keeps you interested with some good stories. As long as you show up and stay focused, you should not have a problem with the class.
He is a great professor!! He really knows what he is talking about and has great examples to hellp understand the material. Do the homework packet and go to class and you will do good!!
I really enjoyed this class and I am kinda stats impared. He makes sure you understand and he has a sense of humor. Definately take him for this class!!
He is a great teacher...really helps those who are not good at math, and entertaining as well. He really cares.
The class is hard but it is standardized so it's going to be hard with anyone. I found Craig to be very helpful and clear. He definately knows what he's doing.
Best professor I've had so far! Extremely knowledgeable of the material, entertaining, and the tests are fair. Don't even bother buying the text book because the readings are online, but the notebook has everything that will be covered and includes practice problems. Excellent professor!
This class is a little tough, but Craig is a great professor. You will learn a lot from this class.
Craig is a really great guy and a great prof as well. He uses lots of examples in class and is also very available/helpful during office hours. He applies stats to real life situations that anyone can identify with. He's also really funny... except he's really big on asking rhetorical questions like "and then you what..."
He is a really nice guy and has great examples that he uses during class. He wants everyone to succeed, and is very helpful. Pretty much if you just go to class everyday you won't even have to do ANY work outside of it.
Really nice guy, great personality and he jokes a lot. I thought his tests were kind of hard, and if you missed one day you fell behind. Overall though for being such a difficult class he taught it well. *Never used the book. tests were alright as long as you study. he has mini projects that are a breeze, and 5 exams.drops the lowest exam score
Funny Canadian guy. I loathe statistics but he made it easy to understand. He'll say things in a very Canadian way, which is truly amusing. This class wasn't as evil as I thought it would be. Craig is great, but don't think you can slack your way through it.
This class was tough for me becasue I'm not good in math, but if you go to class every day and do the homework (even though it is not manditory) then you will do fine in the class. Craig keeps things interesting and is a nice guy!
All in all he was a very nice guy. Jokes a lot. Test were kind of difficult. Class is not mandatory, but if your not the greatest with math, you should definitely go to get a better understanding
Mr McArthy was one of my favorite profs. I even nominated him for teacher of the year. There are days when he's more boring than a rock, but it's more of the material than him. He tells really lively stories and really gets you interested in his material. You can tell he really knows what he's talking about. If he doesn't, he'll say so.
Awesome. Take him, plain and simple. He knows how to teach this class, plain and simple. Seems like he's taught it for years, but he still keeps things interesting. Highly encourage taking his classes.
If you taking psy 120...take it with him only. He is the best!
He knows his stuff. Plain and simple. I am terrible at math and do not like it and really enjoyed his class. Tells awesome stories and keeps you entertained. Also very helpful during office hours. Do not take this class with anyone else other than Craig.
Great teacher! If you are not interested in stats but have to take it, then you will have a definite interest in it after your have Craig. He provides tons of examples and is really relatable. I would take another class with him in a second!
I had this class M-TH, went 10 times and got a D+ and don't need any more math courses. I aced the first test, after attending class all week. His lectures are excellent, and if you're interested in math, or want an easy A, just show up and listen.
I HATED this class. I went to class every single day and the peer tutoring and still had to drop out. He talks so fast and just assumes that you get it. I think hes just too smart to teach others.
this man makes stats fun. he is funny, canadian, and makes class easy to understand. McCarthy is the best teacher to get for this class hands down. He cares about the students, and he used to be a hockey coach.
He is awesome =D
Very cool, applies real life and interesting subjects to help you understand the material, tests are ok average study time, no book
i took this class online and i got nearly 100%. i DEFINITELY recommend taking it online - but only if you can apply yourself and still have an understanding of the math we learned in middle school (box and whisker plots, x plus y equals whatever
Attendance is not mandatory, but I definitely recommend going every day especially if you have trouble with math. McCarthy made everything seem crystal clear in class, but once I stepped out of the door I was completely confused and had to get a tutor.
The material in this class was veryyy hard, but Dr. McCarthy made it as clear as it could possibly get. He is all about making sure students do well, but can be pretty strict yet straight forward. He prepares you very well for the test and provides a great homework packet that you really should do; it helps LOADS. I loved him as a person and prof.
Craig is the man. I took PSY 120 without any background in statistics. I was a average math student in high school and this class was pretty straight up. McCarthy lays out the units like a champion and once you buy his note packet you just follow along. Bottomline - get McCarthy, great teacher great guy and great class.
Took the class online, hard material, had to have my psychology major roommate help, however I know that if I had email Craig he would have tried to help.
My Favorite Teacher Ever. EASY GO TO CLASS GET AN A
I am not a good math student yet McCarthy made everything easy to understand.
I took this class online this past spring and loved it. I actually had a tutor who I met with once a week and that made ALL the difference. I do better having someone explain concepts to me but appreciated the flexibility of taking the class online so it worked out great. He responds to your emails immediately.
Easy, easy, easy class. 5 tests and 4 are counted for your grade. Extra credit available frequently. Really nice guy, doesn't ever seem irritated with the class. Pretty easy material to understand and he prints out all of his lecture notes in a handy little packet. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. I did and I haven't opened it all quarter.
Craig is the man. He makes this class super easy, no reason you couldn't get an A even if you're awful at math. He explains everything clearly and gives interesting real world examples. I loved this class.
TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. I've never had Craig as a prof, but the online class is a peice of cake. I've never spent more than an hour on the homework, and I'm doing great. There are 10 'modules' which include 20 questions and a midterm and a final. SOOOO EASY.
He's a great professor!
Craig is an awesome teacher. before psy 120, I had absolutely no interest in math, but his stats class taught me a lot and was really relevant. It's awesome that you don't have to buy a textbook, you just buy a packet with all the notes already in it. great class and great guy, if you need a math credit def. take him
Great guy easy class
When it comes to math, I'm usually remedial at best, so this class definitely was worrying me. Craig is an awesome teacher though, a really funny guy who is always willing to help you out. If you are nervous about stats, TAKE THE CLASS WITH HIM.
I love this guy! He actually taught me unlike half of my professors. After taking this class with him I couldn't see myself doing as well with anyone else! He is really funny and cool and gives you a lot of examples to help you understand! TAKE IT WITH HIM!
Great teacher! Very easy to understand. You only have to buy the workbook that he wrote, and as long as you study you'll get an A.
He's awesome...if you understand the topic or easily learn math concepts. If not find another prof or hire a tutor ASAP. He's super smart but I think only the math elite can really keep up with him.
Craig is the MAN. If you take 120 with him, it's chill. He's a great teacher and is always willing to help.
Craig is awesome! He is the most helpful professor I have ever taken a class with. He let's you know exactly what to study and writes the notes out for you. He's funny and keeps you interested even if you hate math. Seriously, he's a great teacher.
Overall great teacher. I'm certainly not a stats fan, but he made taking the class quite bearable. Funny guy, always prepared, and he let you know exactly what he expected out of you. One of the clearest profs I've had.
Loved. Loved. Loved. He was one of the best teachers i've ever had. The textbook is optional, but you do have to buy this packet with his notes in it. I have never had a stats class before this, but he did an amazing job teaching it. TAKE HIM
Overall, a good prof. He's pretty funny, so he keeps you interesting. Psy 120 wasn't hard at all really, just make sure you read the notes in the packet and go to class.
I loved having McCarthy. He was fun and informative. He didn't over complicate anything which is really important for me in a class. Buy his workbook but NOT the books. totally unnecessary. Anything you would need is in the packet :]
Nice guy, semi-easy class. Moves kind of fast and reuses all his material. Therefore he doesn't hand back tests; which is one thing I like so I can see what I did wrong.
Craig is a really good stats prof! He is funny and likes to make jokes. He gives real world examples that help. Don't need to buy the textbooks just his workbook the rest is online/extra. You can drop your lowest test score. There are 4 tests and a final. I would recommend him for sure! Easy A or B class.
GREAT prof. The End! lol!
McCarthy let you know where you stood. He knew if you were falling behind, where it would be, and helped you through it. Best professor for this class. Don't miss class, you'll fall behind.
Great professor. GO TO CLASS! that's how you learn. I got an A. He was very helpful and kept grades known throughout the quarter. So nice and from Canada so he had a lot of stories. Keeps class light and entertaining. Fair in grading.
Craig is awesome! I have never been someone who loved anything math related but he actually got me excited to go to class. He's super entertaining and wants you to do well. I'd recommend him in a heartbeat. Attendance isn't mandatory but go to class, you won't regret it!
Craig is an awesome professor. I've never gotten higher than a C in a math class before and I did really well in his class. He offers extra credit and you will do well if you go to class and actually try. He's a great guy and wants to help you. I highly recommend him!
Great professor! Explains things well, offers a lot of practice problems and takes time to review for exams. His personality seems laid-back and easy-going. I attend class because I want to and if I have to miss class I don't feel awkward about it as I would in some other classes.
Craig is the MAN! Tough class though, as long as you go to class everyday it is't too difficult. He makes class interesting and fun, even though the material is boring, would absolutely recommend
McCarthy is the best professor I've had throughout college and even high school. I have never done well in math, but I received a high A in his class. He does an excellent job explaining the material and making sure everyone understands. He seems a bit intimidating at first, but it's just his personality, he genuinely cares about his students.
Loved his course! He was very helpful and used anecdotes to help understand the information. He's also very funny. I will forever recommend his class
Craig is a wonderful professor, genuinely cares about all his students and wants them to do well. If you go to class it won't be hard to do well. Give him a week or two and you'll be glad you took his class. Highly recommend.
He is the best professor I've had at Ohio University.
Dr. McCarthy is by far the best stats professor in the psychology department. His lectures are crystal clear, he prints the notes off ahead of time, and gives tons of examples. He cares about his students and wants you to do well.
Homework's pretty easy, just 20 questions most weeks. For most of the course, I just used the notes he provided, and barely used the textbooks. That said, the books are necessary for some tables they include, and they do clarify some points that are a little vague in the notes.
Dr. McCarthy is the best professor I've had at Ohio University. He is very willing to help and usually available. He cancels class a lot but it never affected my education. Prints out notes for you and they're very helpful. Definitely the best professor to take for statistics.
Dr. McCarthy is the BEST professor at Ohio University. While his class is challenging, if you go to class HE makes class interesting and fun! His examples are relevant to what the students are involved with. Stats have always been hard for me, but Dr. McCarthy made me want to learn more about stats!! Best class I took at Ohio Univeristy!
Craig was really funny and a good teacher, but the class itself was really difficult. There was little help outside the class so you have to go to class every single time. INSANELY difficult.
Very good instructor who posts videos for distance learners to help explain the material. Also provides printouts on what will be covered. There are homework assignments based. I had limited time to study and ended up with a B- in the class. Exams are proctored. Final and midterm only. No quizzes. Learned so much!
Craig is a really cool guy. For starters he has a doctorate and lets you call him "Craig". The class itself is kind of difficult but if you come to class itll help a great deal. He is head of the department so he knows his stuff. He tends to cancel fridays. Only have to buy a $30 book and its very useful, has all old tests inside to help prepare
Took this as an online class. The class was beyond easy. Has step by step walk through a of problems and exams are open book, open note. I will say he does not understand the concept of an online class. Had us do group presentation and wanted us to meet up. Used expensive stats program with short free trial. Do not take this class online with him!
Craig is an all around great professor. Attendance is only mandatory on certain days like exams and the days projects are due, but you don't want to skip for two reasons: 1) You'll get so far behind fast if you do, and 2) He's a hilarious and interesting lecturer. Talk to him about hockey and ask questions, you'll get on his good side fast.
If you want someone to "get in your kitchen" this guy is your man. Go to class - its not mandatory, but it is if you wanna do well. Overall a really funny and caring prof. He puts the topics into simple terms that anyone can understand. Definitely the type of guy you'd wanna crack open a cold one with.
I'm horrible at math and didn't do stellar in the class, but I went to all his lectures and outside of class and I managed to pass. He's really funny and is the only math teacher I've ever had that actually tried to work with me. I would say attendance isn't necessary, but his class is so informative and entertaining I didn't miss a single one.
Good at repeating things to make sure everyone understands what is happening. You have to study for the tests or you will not pass. If you miss a class you better have someone who takes good notes because you will be completely lost otherwise.
He was in my kitchen 24/7 but still a great professor and good guy.
One of my favorite professors at OU. Gave great lectures, did a lot of great examples in class. 4 exams, 4 statistics projects. No extra credit or curving and an A was like a 93.5 so that was the only tough part of the class.
a great professor. i'm bad at math, but he made stats accessible, interesting and even enjoyable. he is very clear in his teaching and gives good examples. the exams are exactly like what we did in class, through the homework packet. like another review said, attendance is technically not mandatory, but try not to miss class b/c you will be lost!
Best stats prof you will ever come across.
McCarthy has been pretty chill. You do an assignment per module (20 questions), turn it in and then you take a midterm and a final. The final isn't cumulative, and it's open book/notes. AKA print everything off and put it in a binder. Honestly, do the work, do the review questions, and you'll be fine.
Love Craig McCarthy!! My favorite professor I've had at OU. Very funny, and absolutely knows what he's talking about. He is very caring and will help you out if you need it. Very strict grading policies but it makes it so rewarding when you do well. Don't take this class unless it's with Craig.
I honestly wish he would teach more classes so I could take a class of his again. I hate math, but I make sure to never miss a class because he tells the funniest stories from his past classes. You don't need the book, but if you want to pass you need the homework packet (which Craig wrote btw) He is always in your kitchen, but he's great! 10/10
Craig is amazing! He is by far my favorite professor I have had so far. I am not very good at math but he makes the class so interesting that I completely understand everything. He is very good at explaining the topics and is willing to help if you are confused. He makes you want to come to class, he is hilarious. I would love to have again!!!
Everything is done in class, never used a book more than in his class but its only $30 and the class is based strictly off the book. Hes a very straight up guy, only grades are 4 exams
Craig is the best professor ever!! I was extremely nervous about this class and Craig made this class easy to understand. He cancels a couple Fridays and classes end early occasionally. His stories are amazing! Wish I could take a class with him again!
Craig is super laid back and won't baby you during the class. You really have to work for it yourself. Attendance isn't mandatory, theres no homework and there are in total about 5 extra credit points available so you must do well on the exams to get a good grade. He does drop the lowest exam and lets you out early almost every day.
took this class fall of my senior year. I needed this class for a pre-req and Craig helped me BIG time. He knew I was struggling and I went to him explaining how much I struggled. Some people did awesome in this class and others no matter how hard they studied did not but Craig is an amazing professor no matter what. Expect to study a lot
All work is submitted via email, youll never know what questions you got wrong. If you ask, he either fails to respond or sends a cold response. The questions he uses arent great and sometimes the correct answer isnt even a choice. The material is interesting, and overall the class is an easy A... I just wasnt a fan of the format.
Hard class for sure but always enjoyed being there. Lecture heavy but doable. Exams were tough but a little studying would give me good grades.
The structure of the course (PSY 2110) is fundamentally flawed. There are 4 projects that take a huge amount of time and effort but are barely worth anything and the final is worth far too much of the grade. All of the projects combined are worth about the same as the final. I would recommend taking it at a different institution.
Craig is THE man. He is an amazing prof and you can tell he loves to teach. He is very thorough and makes statistics really fun and interesting (and thats coming from an English major, lol). There was a lot of studying but he gives you all the material you need to succeed! He also adjusted very well to online classes due to the coronavirus.
Listen, all you need to know is craig is THE man. If you put in the time he will return his time to you. He's understanding and legitimately cares for his students. Not to mention a legend of a coach for OU. but that's besides the point. If you need/want to take the class and craig is available. Take his class. You won't regret it!
Craig. What a man. I was TERRIFIED to take stats because you hear horror stories about it. But I'm on track to get an A. There's lots of help available for stats (peer tutoring), and Craig will always take time to make sure you're on track if you talk to him. Once you learn the format of the reports, they're easy. Start studying for exams early!
This class was completely online, however the materials provided are thorough and help you get through the homework and quizzes. I'm sure he would be more than willing to help if it's needed.
McCarthy is the average professor. His Stats class was more challenging because of the online format. You submit all of your assignments via email, so it makes things a bit harder to submit and easier for you to make a mistake. He is very nice and will help when you ask. Be ready to read and watch his videos because he doesn't just give out answers
I had to take this class and it was fine. I'm sure it would be a lot better in person. Cheated the whole way through, didn't do half the assignments and got As (quizlet) on the exams and took an S.
If you have to take a statistics class, take it with Craig.
I had him for PSY 1110. Class was all online. There was no zoom calls or recorded lectures. Print off 18 pages of course notes and then submit a 20 question assignment on it. Did not learn a single thing. Would have been a lot better in person but it sucked online. A lot of the answers could be found online and I ended up with a B
Took his class all online. He has prerecorded lectures and a homework packet. He answers his emails very fast but it is a time consuming course. He will not round at all even if you have a 89.98%. Most of your grade comes from the exams. Good professor.
He was actually really great. He really knows his stuff and explains everything in a way that everyone can understand. He is super nice and his exams are similar to the questions we practice in class. He tells us what topics will be on the test and how many questions. Sometimes he will even tell us the format. He was super helpful and I really like
Great guy, but a strict professor. Very fast-paced, and can be easy to fall behind if a single class is missed. Material only gets harder after exam 1 and builds on itself. Would recommend the support classes AND SI sessions. Exam-heavy and mini-projects. DO NOT get in his kitchen!!!
Craig. Absolute g. I hate math and I really enjoyed his class. Content was a little bit difficult at times but he did a good job meeting the class where they were at and spending extra time on things we struggled on. Hilarious. You have to attend class since everything builds. I recommend going to the SI or having a friend in the class
I suck at math and really enjoyed having McCarthy. Highly recommend looking over the notes and doing the questions in them because they are very similar to the test questions.
Professor McCarthy is AMAZING. I have always struggled with math and I did really well in this class. He is super funny and very patient. Has a little bit of sass If you get on his bad side but he loved my class so he was great. I would suggest him for your stats professor over anyone.
Professor McCarthy has been one of my favorite professors I've had! While his class is very difficult, he made stats easier and more fun. I actually enjoyed showing up to class 4 days a week. While attendance is not technically mandatory, make sure you go everyday/often if you want to succeed in the class.
The content of this class was difficult, but Dr. McCarthy did an amazing job of teaching the material. He gave real life examples and told funny stories, and covered all the material efficiently and clearly. This class made me enjoy statistics, which I never thought would happen.
Craig is a very funny and interesting teacher, but this is a very difficult class, especially if you have trouble focusing. Tests are very hard, but are multiple choice heavy. Definitely try to make friends in the class to have study sessions with.
Craig is soooo awesome! He takes his time and tries and make sure everyone understands the material. He is extremely understanding and truly cares about his students. The class, however, isn't a cakewalk. Make sure you go to class because it is easy to get behind. The research reports are a lot of work but are a good bumper for your grade.
Took Psy 1110 and loved McCarthy. He only grades by exam and mini-projects, which he helps with in class so free points. There are only 4 exams (3 graded, he drops the lowest) and a final. He talks fast, but once you work through the material everything is pretty simple.
Dr. McCarthy is passionate about what he does. He has lots of stories to tell, and he cracks jokes to make the class interesting. His class crams a lot of content into short lectures, so attendance is really important, but McCarthy makes all the effort to help students succeed. He offers plenty of practice work (the homework packet is legendary!)
Craig is one of the best professors I have had. Stats can be a very tough class but he made it very manageable. Although attendance isn't mandatory, you should go to class or else you will not know what you are doing. If you have to take statistics, take it with Craig.
I took his class as an elective. He is very clear on his expectations. Weekly quizzes but he provided detailed course notes for each chapter along with supplemental videos. His midterm exam was primarily made up of the chapter quizzes plus he allowed open book/notes. I would definitely take his classes in the future.
In-class reviews are AMAZING and I wish more professors did this! On one hand, the lack of assigned homework is really nice because you have more time to study, but on the other, there's very few grades so there's no wiggle room for one bad exam. I do wish there were more grades but otherwise I enjoyed the class and didn't think it was too tough.
Great professor! He made a relatively difficult course easier by providing amazing lectures throughout the semester. Will be registering for his PSY 2110 course this fall!
The professor provides supplemental videos to help with each module. Grading criteria is pretty clear. Would definitely take a class with this professor again!
Craig made statistics understandable, engaging, and even fun! His lectures were fast-paced, but he had great real-world examples. He also stopped to answer questions when needed, too. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. I recommend going to Supplemental Instruction sessions, too. The extra practice was very helpful in class and during exams.
AMAZING! At first I wasn't a big fan, I had to understand the way he teaches, but after two weeks, I have never had a better prof.
Great Professor just not the teacher i needed with my learning style. Hard to reach by email but does respond after a few days (4/5).
Different teaching style than any professor i've had in the past, however if you pay attention he makes stats very easy to understand. He only wants students to be successful in his class and you can tell he is very passionate about what he does.
Conflicted. He seems like a nice guy and gives straight-forward exams, but for an entry-level stats class consisting of basic algebra he treats his course as if its harvard-level. The amount of work is stupidly disproportionate to the course content. He's barely reachable via email; can be cold or demanding unprompted. I give his class a weird/10.
McCarthy knows how to make something so boring, actually interesting. You HAVE to be in class to understand the material. It is clear that McCarthy knows what he is talking about and is very well respected.
This class was pretty difficult for me since I am not very good at math. I think the instructor himself was fantastic because he was always available for help outside of class. If you're not good at math, take this in person and not online. I struggled more than I should and had to get extra help, which helped bring my grade up to pass with an A-.
Professor McCarthy knows exactly what he's talking about, he's an amazing professor and makes the lectures and material interesting, and he tries his best to make sure students understand the material assigned.
I was surprised to see McCarthy rated so highly, as he is the most unprofessional and difficult professor I have had. He seems very bothered when emailed. You are only graded on exams and research reports, and there is a "homework packet" that is extremely unhelpful. Good luck trying to practice anything in this class, YT became my best friend.
You are only graded on exams and you have to go to class to understand the content. Craig is very funny and very good at explaining things, but he teaches a lot of classes so he is hard to reach outside of class.
Professor McCarthy was engaging and funny in lecture. The grading criteria is clear, but you are only graded on exams and extra credit. He sometimes explained concepts like they were easier than they really were, or barely touched on tested material. If you don't understand what is going on in class, going to SI was very helpful for this course.
this professor wasn't very clear in anything he posted which makes you lose credits, you don't receive any graded work so you don't know what you missed and just get the grade. Don't even think about missing an assignment because he has no remorse for students who have a life outside of school.
Professor McCarthy's stats class was pretty easy and straightforward for the most part. Like all kinds of math, once you understand it makes it easier to apply to future concepts and assignments. Very nice professor over email.
Have no idea how this professor has any good rating. Not personable at all. Has everything typed and sent in an email. My email accidentally didn't send and went to draft. Sent late and explained and he gave 0 out of 40 points even with me having completed everything. Has no remorse and really doesn't seem to care about your success as a student.
I did really enjoy having Craig as a professor. The only thing keeping me from giving him a 5 is that he makes things seem easier than they really are. Other than that he is amazing. He is very understanding, for example if you are sick if you have a dr. note you can email it to him. He also allows a note card for exams.
Craig is a great Statistics professor. As someone who is not a PSY or MATH major, and had not taken a math class in over 4 years, I was able to understand everything by simply going to class and doing the homework (which takes maybe 10 minutes once a week). Exams are very fair and he gives you study guides and extra credit opportunities.
I have never been a fan of anything math related, but Craig seriously changed that. He is by far my favorite professor I have had so far, and if you need a stats credit I 100% recommend. He genuinely cares and wants you to succeed. You know what's on the exam and what to study. He is also super funny and engaging.
Craig is wonderful! Even though attendance isn't mandatory if you don't go to class it makes the material very difficult. Even though the majority of your grade is based on exams there's nothing on them that wasn't gone over in class. Craig has a lot of experience in statistics and is amazing at answering questions without making you feel stupid.
I LOVE Craig and his Canadian accent!
A real G! Great professor, learned a lot from him. Despite my poor grade in his class, it wasn't his fault at all and was on me for not reviewing info enough. The material on exams is exactly what he covers in class. Studying frequently and attending review sessions is essential. Very supportive and kind. Would recommend to everyone!
His class is good and he is super funny. You have to be very motivated in this class though. The class material is exactly what the exams are. He posts practice exams and they will help so much. He offers no extra credit, and if you miss an assignment when you are sick it will be a 0 no matter what. But overall he pushed me to be better at math
Single handedly one of my favorite people ever to teach me anything. If you put in the work you will pass. Attendance is not mandatory but if you dont show you will not be successful, dont worry he makes class very easy to come to. Craig is the best anyone else who tells you differently is a bum.
Knows his stuff and genuinely wants students to learn. You're graded by few things but the criteria/rubrics are super clear. Great mix of real-world examples and stats theory. Has irregular office hours. He prints out the notes for each lecture and hands them out at the start of class. Biased bc I already liked stats but this class was super fun.
Craig truly is such a great professor. He makes class interesting so students actually want to show up. The class is graded on 4 research reports and four exams.
I LOVE CRAIG MCCARTHY! FUNNY GUY AWESOME TEACHER MADE THE CLASS A BREEZE! I REPEAT I LOVE CRAIG MCCARTHY!
Craig McCarthy is an irresponsible and ignorant professor. I had a mental health emergency during one of his exams, and he refused to let me retake the exam. He claimed that it wasn't a "legitimate" reason compared to illnesses like COVID. He also refuses to do office hours. His class is just 5 exams with one extra credit point offered for an exam
Genuinely might be one of the smartest people I have ever met. His class is very fast paced and can be overwhelming but he's such a cool guy that it's enjoyable. Attendance and homework aren't graded but you definitely should do them. 4 exams and 4 reports. Also, he has some of the most random but interesting stories. One of my favorite professors.
His lectures are very engaging and usually easy to follow, sometimes I zone out but thats not his fault. The only grades are exam grades and 1 pt of possible extra credit per exam but he drops your lowest grade. The class is overall not bad considering its a math class and he is a really good teacher and he's passionate about the subject.
This man is the reason I am good at stats. He taught this course in a way that I, somebody who is TERRIBLE at math, could understand. I tried to get him for 2110, but I couldn't, yet I still did great because of the solid foundation his 1110 course gave me. GOD BLESS YOU, CRAIG. Couldn't have done it if I had any other prof, genuinely.
doesnt really answer question directly. Ive asked many questions and then had to reclarify his answer because he answered it very indirectly. 4 exams, and 4 research reports. Hes the only 2110 professor that gives worksheets, those helped. Go to PAL sessions, those also help a lot for this class. Overall hes an alright professor
Craig taught statistics in a way I was able to understand. You really have to pay attention and put in the work to do well. It covers a lot of information in a short amount of time. The grading criteria are very clear, and there are plenty of resources for help!
Dr. McCarthy is such a chill guy. I've always been bad at math, but the explanations and examples he uses really help students understand the content. The exams are fair and straightforward, and you have the opportunity to get extra credit through "mini-projects". He is very caring and wants his students to do well, I would take him again!
I am terrible at stats and I never took elementary statistics so I really struggled in this class. McCarthy is such a great professor and he's really understanding about the difficulty of this course. This class requires a lot of effort because he doesn't offer extra credit for 2110 but he posts the notes, helpful videos, and practice exams.
