HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT BUT HE CANT EXPLAIN IT. HE BEGINS EVERY SENTENCE WITH SO AND RAMBLES ALL THE TIME. IF YOU TAKE HIM YOU MUST HAVE PATIENCE AND A VERY LONG ATTENTION SPAND!!!!!!!
I think he really tries, but he's just not a good teacher. He does give partial credit and extra credit, though.
He knows what he is talking about he just can't explain it very well. He rambles on about certain things and he is very unclear, or unsure most of the time.
Dr. Mcclure knows his chemistry, he just has a hard time gettin it to his students. I think he is a real sweetheart and he always gives extra credit and all on test...cause we all know we need them..lol. other than that I LOVE HIM. Give him credit yawl..he is trying and he is sweet!!!!1
Test are extrememly hard. Teaches on the principles and tests on the application of principles.
He tries to explain things as best he can but he isn't very good at explaining things. He definately knows the info and is very enthusiastic but just doesn't know how to teach the info. Exams are kinda hard but he does give major bonus. Go to class, he gives pop quizzes!
DR MCCLURE WAS A SWEETHEART TO ME. HE GAVE US CHANCES TO REDO OUR TEST AND I THINK THAT WAS VERY NICE CONSIDERING HE COULD HAVE JUST LET US KEEP OUR GRADES, I PASSED WITH A C AND I AM HAPPY, SO...TAKE HIM, DONT B SCARED AND HE GIVES BEAUCOUP BONUS POINTS!
He is a great teacher and his grading systm really helps people who do not test well. Your tests only count for half of your final grade. Definitely take this class. He really prepared me for Gen Chem.

He is very nice and helpful, but is very hard to understand. You can definetly tell he knows what he is talking about he just doesn't know how to explain it to the class. He gives make up work and extra point, but it really doesn't matter if you don't unde
Dr. Mcclure was so nice and very helpful to me. He can be a little difficult to understand at times but he will work with you and gives extra credit. He is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had and comes HIGHLY recommended.
He knows his material very well. It is true that he rambles and sometimes can't explain something to the class well; but if you follow in the book, it's real easy. He can help you one on one EXTREMELY well. I advise taking from him. Especially for his bonus points and special tests.
Dr. McClure is one of the funniest teachers I've taken (not that he's trying to be). He wants VERY BADLY for all the students to understand and he'll do anything to help you! He is so cute!
The semester isn't over yet but he is a good teacher. If your mind wanders off in class it will not be hard for you to pick back up make sure you print out the notes and you must go to class. He will give extra credit and pop quizzes he also gives demos.
McClure is ok, he's just really corny. His test are kind of strict, but the class is ok.
McClure is a very nice man! He tries SO HARD to get his students to understand his lectures. He utilizes ALL of his class time, so be prepared to stay for the entire class. He does experiments and stuff and tries to make the class fun. HE IS VERY ENTHUSIASTIC! He gives a lot of EASY EASY pop quizzes to help your grade..so go to class! Good teacher!
He is very thorough. This is you'll catch him rambling at times. That's his only fault, but it stems from his good intentions. He's a very nice guy and truely wants to enhance your awareness. Please give him your undivided attention, as well as the respect that a good teacher deserves, because they are a rare breed. The above ratings are accurate.
He tries to make his lectures very interesting, and you can tell he really enjoys teaching. He is very helpful, and responds to e-mails quickly. His tests are a little difficult, but going over the recommended problems in the book will help a lot.
this is a class that you really have to pay attention in. his lectures are really hard to follow. the tests are hard and not really reflective of the material covered in class. his quizes are really easy though. he loves to teach this course though and is really energetic. if you want to put forth effort take this class.
He is very EXCITED about teaching the material for this class. His tests aren't so bad if you make sure to study everything discussed in the powerpoints. The quizzes are easy and they count as one test grade which can really help you. Don't need the book, just go to class and study notes outside of class.
He's an awesome teacher and a really nice guy! He will try to help you as much as he can without just giving you an A!
Energetic--enthusiastic--super nice-nice-nice-nice--I have a major crush on him! He's so cute!
best prof ever
EASY pro u might want to just look over the notes everyday for like 5 min or b4 class and ull understand everything. hes funny n he makes u laugh at his wacky jokes he tells but if u need help studying he'll give u a tutor n tutors help alot
Extremely helpful, and creative. The other day he brought an electric skillet to class and made us grilled cheese sandwiches, and handed them out when we got a correct answer! He makes Chemistry interesting-- I can say that he is eaisly the best overall science/math teacher I have had at any school. Would definitely reccommend!
Nice guy. Talks too fast but he is interesting. Highly recommend him. He is very helpful so go to him after hours if you need too. Test are extremely difficult but he is a fair grader. The best instructor I have had in a long time. You will like him.
He is an excellent teacher. He is very energetic. Print the powerpoints and come to class and you'll do fine. The tests are on the difficult side, not bad, you just have to study. He is helpful and really nice.
McClure is an excellent professor. I highly recommend taking him. He is very nice and helpful. He makes the material interesting and he seems to always be in a good mood.
TALKS REALLY FAST! BUT GOOD TEACHER... SHOW UP FOR CLASS /C HE GIVES TAKE HOME QUIZZES WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT THEM!
McClure is a very helpful professor and is fun when teaching but the tests are a lot harder than what he puts on the quizes and study guides
Great teacher who really enjoys what he is doing. He is definately a bit dorky, but that quality really adds to the class lectures, which by the way are not boring at all.
He loves chemistry and wants you to love it too. Made the class as interesting as possible (it chemistry after all). Found his tests to be tricky, you have to study to do well in this class. He gives alot of opportunities for extra credit.
great class. great teacher. terrible lab TAs.
This guy is such a great teacher, recommended to all!
Excellent proffesor. Dr. McClure cares about his students and it shows in his lectures. Tests are fair if you study. Don't wait until the night before...you will not do well. Best Professor I have had!
Makes chemistry as exciting as it can be. Likes to pop quiz, but also gives practice exams before each test. Notes were easy to follow and extra study sessions were helpful.
Great professor! High energy, fun class, definitely NOT boring. Don't miss class, read the book, do the practice sections-many of the test questions come directly from there and the others come from his examples in class. Some class assignments are for points, some are extra points.
You want this guy!!
DO NOT TAKE MCCULRE UNLESS YOU WANT TO TEST YOUR WILL POWER!!! He is a sweet teacher and cute in a dorky way, but he is so smart that he is a bad teacher. Like he thinks that everyone enjoys chemistry as much as he does, but we don't!! I failed this class!!
mcclure was the greatest!!! i made an A in the class. it wasn't that hard, i didn't really need the book because his notes were online. everything you need to know for the test will be on the printouts. TAKE HIS CLASS you will learn to LOVE chemistry :)
Great teacher. he tries to get you involved by asking questions. the book didn't help me. it was a waste of money. if you go to lecture, you will understand w/o the book. notes are also posted online, so you can print them to have in class. if you study and do the practice exams, you can make an A.
Dr. McClure is funny and he give quizzes that are very helpfl. I just cant seem to pass his exams.
McClure is a very good teacher. I made an A in this class, but with a lot of studying. He is not very straightforward in the way he explains things sometimes. His tests are very difficult and are usually much harder questions than what he goes over in class. Know the class notes, go to evry class, and stay on top of everything and you will be fine.
i love this man. he gives you the powerpoint. i missed class once and was completely lost so go to class all the time. s.i. really helps too. his practice exams are awesome. he relates things to real life. one time he made us grilled cheese. he explains things until you get it. if you have a question he will address it. i miss his class.
I think that he's a great teacher! I have never had a chem professor that I have enjoyed as much as him. He does a great job at applying what you learn to everyday life, and he has a great sense of humor. I disagree with the previous comment about not needing the book. It helps to read the chapters before lecture to keep from getting lost.
Mcclure is a hard teacher! His exams were hard, and didn't really understand the material he was trying to teach. He gave out quizes every now and then so class isnt mandatory, but you have to be there to know there is a quiz but he does leave them outside his door for you to pick up also. Overall, it was a difficult class
Dr. McClure was very hard, he tests were not easy at all.The book helped me mostly, try to do good on the quiz and the tests to get a good grade, i still had made a D in the class, but he was jice his tests werent the covered material
McClure is an awesome professor. As long as you know the material, the test are not that difficult. It's not mandatory to go to class, but he does give atleast 10 quizes throughout the semester. If you do not do well on the test but do well on the quizes and homework, you will make a decent grade. If the class average is low then he will scale tests
hard as hell!!! i failed with a D, i really studied too! but his material was not covered in the notes, he has you study all this stuff, and when the tests comes your like " what tha" b/c none of the material is on the texts on like 20%
Extremely hard tests, and easy lectures. Nice guy but very hard
I like Dr. McClure. A lot of his test questions come straight from his notes. Listen in class, read the book, and study the notes. He is really cute too! :)
He is very easy. DO NOT by the book. You never use it; plus he puts his notes online for you to print out. I go to S.I sometimes but really do not need to. Pay attention to his lectures and READ NOTES and take practice quizes and you will do fine.
Hands Down the worst 100 level professor I've ever had.
His lectures are easy, his tests are hard.. Enough Said
He is really sweet and helpful. His practice tests are really easy, but the real exams are very hard! Make sure you do really well on quizzes because that will really boost your grade. If you have a problem, he is more than willing to help him. He makes this class so fun, but watch out for the tests--2nd one and final are especially hard!
Had him 4 both 105 & 107. go to class and do the quizzes. reading the book makes no real difference. do the pratice test even the SI one. tries to be fair. he's nice and if you had chemistry in high school every easy. if u didnt take chem 100 first.
Compared to my high school chemistry, his class wasn't too bad. The SI instructor I had was horrible, but I loved McClure's class (and I hate chemistry). Grilled cheese day was AWESOME :)
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!! his tests are VERRRRRY hard. please aviod this teacher, take jalobsky if you can
Don't but the book!!! TERRIBLE SI leader. Don't miss class. Do ALL the quizzes and make sure to make a 10/10 on all of them. His tests are very difficult and he has essay questions at the end of every test which are also difficult and they count for alot of points. If possible, take CH 100 before this class.
Not the easiest class i've taken but def a good teacher. He gives lots of take home wuizzes (like about 10-12) and if you take your time and do them you can save your grade even if you bomb all the test. Finished with a B
This class is no joke..its HARD. The book helps alot if you read before the classes and tests. take all the quizzes SERIOUSLY! They will save your butt! He gives impossible essays on the exam worth 10pts. I heard other teachers dont.
I didn't buy the book! One of the easiest classes I've taken. However, I'm pretty good at chemistry. I didn't go to class that much, and picked up the quizes from his office. If you don't understand, be sure to ask him, he is a really good teacher and very understanding. You CAN make an easy A in this class!!
His tests were not that bad but essay questions... I just had to guess and write random stuff for essay questions. You do get partial points for just writing random answers. ;) Pretty much I just studied the textbook and notes on the internet. Pretty easy class.
Nice guy, a bit funny at times. Do all your quizzes and study enough for the test to pull out a B or so and you can get an A. He scales the class at the end, and there are 2 quizzes for extra credit. I really put little effort and got an A. There is one test that is difficult and the rest are not too bad. Study about 2 hours for each test.
He's a great teacher! He's funny if you pay attention, and he'll repeat whatever you need to get it figured out. My favorite joke was "which bear is the most soluble in water? The polar bear!"
I liked McClure's class. He was very helpful and gave take home quizzes. You still have to study and look over notes. I think I opened the book maybe once. I would study several hours and I went to every class meeting. I ended up with an "A" in the class. I would recomend McClure's class!
Dr. McClure should be president. I really struggled in his class and went to his office alot and he bent over backward to help me. if you're willing to put in the work for his class he's more than willing to help you on a one on one basis. and yes, he is adorable to boot. his class is hard, no lie, but he's probably the best prof ive ever had
Mclure was a good teacher. His class is hard but he does scale the class grade at the end of the term. he gives out quizez every other class or so make sure you go to class this will make or break you.
he's pretty funny and make learning chemistry fun. i definitely recommend taking him :)
Dr. McClure is a very sweet man, but I don't think he explained the material very well. The practice exams were nothing like the actual exams, but if the class did really bad on an exam he scaled them. THANK GOD for the quizzes because they really made a difference. Definitely would not take again.
Very difficult class for me, attended almost every class although he does not take roll. Not very clear when explaining material and practice tests were nothing like real exams. Not recommended.
He's a sweet little man, but not very clear on what he's explaining. I went to almost every class though attendance isn't mandatory. I studied like crazy for the exams and went in knowing everything on the objectives/practice exam, and would still fail the test. Thank God he scaled two of our tests.
Awesome.
his lectures are okay, but they make you get your hopes up so you think you're ready, but then the exams are the hardest things ever. don't buy the book, it's only used for suggested practice problems and it's over $200. if you miss a day that work was due he will not accept it late. i learned the hard way. so give it to someone to turn in for you!
McClure is AWESOME. Buy the book-it's cheaper than repeating the class. It reinforces lecture. I read the book, go to every class and have a high A in there right now. His tests are EXACTLY what he tells you to study. He posts practice exams and "objectives" for each exam and sticks to them. I LOVE this class!
Great!
Challenging class but McClure is great. Explains things really well. You better go to class because he gives surprise take home quizzes that are due the next class and will not take a late quiz. Some of the tests are surprisingly tough but he scales up. If I had not bought the book and done the practice problems I would be failing and I have an A .
He is an amazing professor! He doesn't waste any class time and his lectures are not even boring! He makes his own slides for you to print off. I made an A without reading the textbook every chapter. It helps, but it is not required. I loved his class and I highly recommend him!
I loved Dr. McClure! He is an amazing teacher, and is willing to help when you need it the most! AND he's good looking! ;)
The things that Dr. McClure recommends you study are not what is on the test. Even if I felt like I knew every bit of information on the practice exam, I still would make low grades on the tests. I dropped the class to maintain my GPA. Dr. McClure did not respond to an email I sent & later told me that he thought I was another student. Ouch.
I actually have him as my "Lab" instructor. Never seen him! Teacher Assistants (T.A.) teach the lab and it is so easy. They help you during the lab and outside of lab if you do not understand material in the class! I had Brandon Mitchell, Morgan and Jake! Awesome T.A.'s
Not my favorite professor but he's nice. His lectures were boring but that's just me. He gives several bonus opportunities and sometimes scales tests. He posts practice exams before actual exams but the real test is WAY HARDER than the practice tests. Overall good teacher.
Fantastic Professor. Helps you when you need it. Print out the powerpoint notes and stay focused in class. If you do that, and do all the take home quizzes in addition to the practice exams you have an easy A. At least I did. Just study, don't cram. Ask questions and clarification if needed, he is open to them. Great professor, get him if you can!!
I don't like chemistry in the first place, but he is very helpful when I don't understand something. He makes his PowerPoint available to print out before class so that we can easily follow along and take notes.
He is a really nice guy. I think that he is one of those teachers that you can't help but like. His class is not a total breeze though. you need to stay up to date because the tests can be wordy and kind of hard.
Dr. McClure is a wonderful professor! He teaches to where everyone can understand. He also helps you to actually learn the information and understand how and why something happens. I plan on taking him for chem 107! Dr. McClure even had a review day where he made us grilled cheese sandwiches!! YUM :) TAKE HIS CLASS
Awesome professor. He explains things in great detail and makes class fun. But his tests aren't easy. You definitely have to study. Gives a lot of take-home quizzes for easy A's. Sometimes scales tests.
He is an excellent teacher who explains things very simply and will answer questions thoroughly. He is very enthusiastic about the subject, which helps in a student's understanding of the material.
This class is not a joke. I agree that he is a very likable person, but his tests are not easy and you really have to study daily if you plan on doing good. He told someone that was dropping the class to take the other chemistry teacher next semester if she was looking for an easier ride..just a thought.
He is such a great guy! He really bring Chemistry to life! But if you want a good grade you definitely need to study! If you dont your grade will not be as good as you hoped it would be. (He does scale averages though). LOVED HIS CLASS. He even made our class grilled cheeses one day!
McClure was very nice and was good at explaining things in a way that pertained to real life. His tests were not easy, but if you study hard, it's definitely possible to make A's. Overall, I enjoyed his class and would take 107 from him next semester.
This was a pretty difficult class, but at the same time I'm not a science person. He is very helpful outside of class, but his tests were unnecessarily hard. Somehow I ended up with a B, so pretty much anyone can do well :)
His tests are hard, he talks way too much and his explanations are not only confusing but lengthy. If u need help with chem and want a teacher who will explain. Don't pick him. Plus we are always taking quizzes.
Really difficult course but he does a lot of explaining. He really loves the subject and I would take him again!
Hardest class I've taken so far. He flies through notes, so good luck with understanding anything in his class. I wouldn't suggest taking this class.
Extremely difficult class. Dr. McClure teaches the material at a level you can easily understand, but then on the tests you'll think you're taking a 300 level course. A good percent dropped the class after the first test. About 10% of the class are retaking because they failed his course the first time around. Don't take him if you can avoid it
He is a really nice guy and very helpful. He is not that easy but he s the best teacher to take for chemistry!
He is a great professor! You don't need the book because he uses a powerpoint. He uses good tools to help understand concepts. The tests are not easy, but attending SI sessions is helpful with maintaining high grades. That 10% that's retaking the class didn't attend lecture or study for the exams. So if you want to pass, don't be that 10%.
McClure didn't teach the labs; his TA's did. Attendance is mandatory for labs and don't be late or you can't take the pre-lab quiz. As long as you read instructions, the labs are easy.
You can really tell that he is passionate about what he teaches and he really tries to keep your attention. Short answer on tests trip me up a bit. Overall a great experience.
He is a great teacher I just cannot understand anything that goes on. I can study all day long and test seem impossible. Even though I got a C I am still retaking it with another teacher!
he was okay i think he knows what he talking about but i think it is very hard for him to explain it to his students his test are beyond hard if you make a d on two or more your pretty much screwed i had to drop and change my major nice guy but a hard class
I could study for 24 hours and still would not know what was going on the test! I went to every single class and to SI, nothing helped me to pass so i had to re-take it. His class are ok and he knows what he is doing but i just could not get his kind of teaching nor test!
This is the hardest class I have ever taken in life....DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN'S CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!! HE TALKS EXTREMELY FAST AND U CANT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING HE SAYS I WENT TO THE SI AND TA AND TUTORING AND HIS OFFICE HOURS AND HE IS INCREDIBLY HARD TO UNDERSTAND UNLESS U ALREADY KNOW CHEMISTRY STUFF
Dr. McClure's class is not a hard as everyone makes it seem. If you pay attention in class and study the objectives/practice exam he posts you will do just fine. It is not an easy class, but it is doable if you actually put effort into it and not just sit back and blame him when you aren't even paying attention in class.
Personally, I thought Dr. McClure's class was very difficult. I had to withdraw do to my first failing test grade. However, he is very passionate about what he does and if you need to talk to him, he's very nice. If you are not very good at chemistry I would not take his class.
is very passionate about chemistry but goes over lesson extremely fast and is hard to understand. his test are extremely hard. i attended more than majority of the SIs and studied. received a's and b's on quizes and homework but received d's and f's on all test. i don't recommend him if you are not familiar with chem prior to his class.
McClure is passionate and knowledgable in his field of study. His test are hard but not too bad. The key to passing his class is YOUTUBE and SI! He wants you to understand the concepts. I studied both his lecture notes and the textbook. Made a B in his class.
Professor McClure is extremely passionate about chemistry; he truly loves the subject and teaches it with wonderful enthusiasm. The class is kinda hard, but if you can do basic math and you're prepared to do a lot of take-home quizzes and go to the class itself, you'll do fine :)
If you get behind before the FIRST test go talk to him! If you are behind then you will not be able to understand anything else! !!Go to SI and do your QUIZZES!!! Don't over think some questions on his test. GoodLuck!
If you put decent effort into his class, you will be able to pass it, no problem. He also makes chemistry interesting.
The class lectures are very interesting and he is willing to help students if they ask. Tests are not easy, though. It is essential to study and it is helpful to use the free resources like SI. I enjoyed the class but going to lectures alone won't help on the tests.
I took this lab on Fridays. It was taught by 2 TA's named Tyler and David. Tyler was great. He answers all questions and it very nice and helpful, David on the other hand is very rude. Don't expect him to answer your questions instead he will laugh at you infront of the whole class and Make you figure it out on your own.
He is extremely passionate about chemistry. His test were extremely difficult if you didn't put in time to study. A Lot.
Dr. McClure loves his field. His lectures are interesting and he provides real world examples of Chemistry in action. Attendance isn't mandatory but most of his test questions come from material covered in class. McClure works examples during lecture that would be difficult to teach yourself. This course is easy with a Chemistry background.
Great lecturer and very passionate about Chemistry. You will not do will if you miss any of the lectures as he goes over detailed notes each class. You can definitely pull an A if you're willing to put in the work. Print the slides, take notes and do the quizzes practice tests. Most concepts he goes over you'll see again in nursing school.
If you want to at least pass the class, YOU MUST GO TO CLASS!! He doesn't scale, curve, or drop tests. He rarely gives bonus points. Tests are very hard, he gives practice tests but they are not very helpful. I had Chemistry in high School, attended class regularly, and did all homeworkquizzes and the class was still a struggle.
Go to class, go to class, go to class! I took this course first semester of Freshman year, missed a lot of class there for failed. His lectures are so LONG so boring and if you ever get behind your most likely screwed, unless you can teach yourself. He was very passionate about Chemistry and can teach you alot as long as you are paying attention.
