While the readings he gave were tough, Craig was really good at breaking them down and explaining some of the more difficult parts in lecture, which were generally really enjoyable. Extremely tough marker though with very little direction on what he's looking for in assignments. If you're looking for a high mark, maybe pass on this class.

He is so passionate about the material so it makes coming to class enjoyable. He uses more discussion based style teaching. Readings are based on articles which can be found online and are 50+ pages per week. You have to submit a response to the articles almost each week, so there is quite a lot of writing in this class. No midterms.

While his courses are reading-heavy & require lots of writing, it is worth it. I learned so much and found discussions really interesting. If you put in the time you can succeed. This is what university should be all about -- critical thinking, not just spitting knowledge from a textbook! Love this prof.

Craig makes confusing topics understandable for his students. You will have to read a lot in this class to prepare for discussions and essays. There are no quizzes/ tests in this class, but there are around 4 papers that you'll have to write. I learned a lot in this class so I hope to take another one of Craig's classes in the future.

Professor Meadows makes learning theory more bearable. He's a good prof who makes you question everything, but he does get a little off topic sometimes. He's quite lenient in terms of extending deadlines, cancelling one of the assignments etc. based on student feedback of their workload. Quite a lot of reading in his course though. Great prof

Teaches you what is important, and has a different teaching for essays, which is different.

Very opinionated and theoretical, nothing practical except for calling hockey racist. Thinks everyone's on the same page and enjoying his nonsense rambling and mindless tangents. No marking guidelines so random numbers are spat out. Says we can choose readings but curveball specifics come up in exams

He's in the wrong job. Doesn't care about students + proves that wokeness contradicts its hypocritical self. He should see the other side, and the world just isn't perfect. SOCI should teach us that the world will never be perfect. Problems are what gets us going. It goes in circles, there's always another way through with its fair share of +/-

Incoming SOCI 102 students: take Elic instead. You'll learn and have good lectures, with exams fluctuating in difficulty. Neither prof are guaranteed to be easy and neither are caring, but Craig is a theory nut who speaks like philosophers making it impossible to follow, and avoids the important things. Also randomly punishes students for no reason

Once again C is writing his own reviews, and deleting the bad ones. Listen to the bad reviews, C is a man full of h8t for the world. This class was extremely left, making me afraid to go to class. C would yell at students, and the world. Openly Marx*st, like commun*sm. I don't know how he is employed.

Believes he's entitled to a personality cult, and rants about his RMP. Typically people have their own opinions, but this is a prof to boycott. Hate has no place at UBC, and diversity/inclusion is his enemy. Can't say he's all left, he has a mix of far left and right views and the spectrum is limiting. He calls himself left however

Professor Meadows had his lectures organized and recorded so students could access it to go back or fill in their missed lectures. He was accessible outside the class and office hours. Syllabus, assignment and instructions were clear to follow and understand. Lecture heavy but in times he allocated time for questions, discussion and group projects.

I took 310 with Craig two years ago when I was a second year student, looking back now, he is absolutely the worst prof in the department. There are a lot of great and supportive profs, but Craig is definetely not one of them. Also, his lecture is dry and too subjective, I learned nothing.

His slides are 80% quotes from the readings which he doesn't explain very well. Never felt so isolated in a class, the students that he engages with have all taken his class multiple times before. His and TA marking is incredibly harsh with many comments, but no constructive ones. One positive thing is he is very flexible and chronically online

Craig is a fantastic instructor. I leave every class feeling like I've learned SO MUCH, and all of it is super interesting. He is also just a very nice and super understanding fella. Makes a point to learn everyone's names, even in large lectures which is impressive and shows he cares. I highly recommend him, don't be scared off!

On the first day of class, one thing he made clear was that he was extremely opinionated I felt that he was overselling himself as an ally by over-emphasizing that straight white males do not like him which was off-putting at first. He would also use the word "hate" a lot which impacted the energy in the classroom. (will continue)

This is my 2nd class with Craig, thought he might've improved, but alas. Save yourself, take whatever class with literally any other prof. There are a few students who LOVE him (the positive reviews) and every single other student agrees he is the worst prof in the SOCI department. He calls people out and his assignments and feedback makes no sense

It feels like you have to adopt a radical socialist viewpoint to pass the class. He is very opinionated and defensive. You can't take a different approach to social issues in this class. If you are currently taking the class and looking him up on RMP, take care of your mental health. It is just a class.

Tried to avoid him but he was the only one teaching a required course I needed. His teaching style sucks and I hate that I received zero feedback or comments on my 25 percent essay. Craig is also the first “Marxist” to ever grade on a curve. Even if ur a student who does super well in all other courses your average will tank with Craig. Be warned.

Craig assumes that we all know what he is talking about. He uses a lot of jargon that makes simple ideas appear complicated. Gets distracted a lot during lectures and is not good at time management. Questions why people don't attend lectures but says unrelated things the whole time. He doesn't mark anything but he can't even lecture either.

Explains to the students that they can choose any topic to focus on for the exams as the questions will represent all topics covered but that is not the case. You can prepare a whole quote sheet tailored to a topic but that leaves the risk of it not being covered. Might as well assign papers to really test a students understanding of material.

The number of times he has made female-sensitive jokes is ridiculous. He should be in a comedy club if he wants people to laugh at his jokes. He gets passive-aggressive when people do not respond to his questions/jokes. Does not respect student ideas if they go against his sociological ideals.

Prof Meadows is a nice guy, but is pretty weak as a prof. Weird lectures designed entirely around his opinions and a useless textbook the he makes you buy. Marking is really weird and unnecessarily hard making his sections have low averages. He starts off classes by telling people he has a "rate my prof troll", I think he is upset with his rating.

The content is interesting, it's posted online, and he records the lectures. He also makes even dry material interesting. The best part is the arc of his syllabi. everything is related.

Craig's the worst prof I had for my entire degree. Tough grader, passive aggressive, unclear instructions, bad feedback, can't manage time. I had him twice and did poorly both times with no idea why. TAs grade everything and ig his rubric is tough or too specific bc I never got above a 75% despite having an A to A- average in all my other classes.
