Oberg is a riot. I fell off my chair laughing during the VD chapter.
Do yourself a favor and don't take an online course from him. Totally unavailable.
I loved this class online. I thought it was way easy and fuN!
Online class was pretty easy stuff. But he was totally unavailable to answer questions. It took over a week sometimes to get an answer back from him. That's my only complaint. Grading was pretty easy and extra credit was available.
Online class was pretty dang easy with extra credit. My only complaint was his lack of availability in answering emails. The average was 7 days for a reply. Everything else was fine.
Oberg was a dang easy teacher and I had no problems. I am planning on taking another micro class from him next semester. I never had any problems with communication but then again I never needed him....Knock on wood!
He is the worst online teacher you could ever have. He does not help when you have questions and does not care about being a teacher. Don't ever take this class from him online, the worst teacher I have ever had.
I took this class online and it was stressful. There was a lot of reading and the tests never really correlated with the assignments. I ended up getting an A with the help of extra credit. I heard great things about this teacher and was disappointed with the class.you really need to do the work by the deadline dates. Otherwise it kicks your butt.
I took Oberg's online course. He responded to my questions in a timely manner. You MUST read the textbook to do well online! I got an A in his class and I learned so much. You can tell he is a little lazy, but he has a good outline to the course. He offers excredit and drops the lowest test score! Recommended to students who can work hard in class!
Oberg is hilarious, and fun.
I thought his online class was extremely easy. There's no set deadlines until the end of the semester so you can work at your own pace, but I do recommend going with his suggestions. There is a lot of reading and most of it really isn't on the test/quizzes. I plan on taking another online class from him next semester.
I took this class online. It was really easy. I put it off until the last few weeks and got an A minus. He takes a really long time to reply to emails. Micro 1153 an easy life science credit if you're like me, and aren't into hard sciences.
I took elementary public health online and it was one of the EASIEST classes I have ever taken. An easy professor. Grades easy, and responds to e-mails quickly. A really easy science credit. I reccomened this class!
Hilarious, entertaining and informative. His classes are interesting and are the type that you'll actually want to attend. He's very helpful if you ever have questions outside of class as well. You can easily tell he has a passion for his subject and he's very good at teaching it.
Online Intro Micro. He gave notes and study outline for each of 8 units, is fast answering email questions. For each unit there is a 20 pt homework you can do as many times as you want to get 20/20, a unit test worth 50 pts. You get to drop your lowest test score. No midterm or final. 3x 12 pt extra credit offered. Class was easier than I expected.
One of the best Profs Weber State has. Really knows what he is talking about. Fair on his exams and assignments. Funny and make the classes very interesting so you WANT to attend. I'll take as many classes from him as I can.
Dr. Oberg is probably the best teacher I have had at Weber. He is funny and make the lectures super interesting while still making sure you learn the material necessary. None of his tests are too hard and none of them are comprehensive. Take a class from him if you can!!!
Very funny guy. You don't need the textbook, just download his lecture notes and chapter reviews online. He doesn't answer questions very often though so be prepared to study a bit. Test were never comprehensive.
Dr. Oberg is a funny guy! I didn't enjoy his classes much, and really they aren't necessary if you are good at memorizing page upon page of lecture notes and chapter reviews. Tests are based on lecture notes and chapter reviews only. Print those ahead of time, his syllabus was NEVER correct...kind of scatterbrained.
Genetics was actually pretty hard, but his notes helped clarify what text book cannot. Dood is super hilarious, and has some pretty good stories as well. He makes micro fun, and applicable. He is a cheese guy, so he knows some practical approaches to micro. Just study the crap out of his notes, cause test are kinda hard. multiple-multiple choice.
Dr. Oberg tells a lot of funny stories, but his teaching skills are fair at best. For me, the textbook was not helpful at all for the exams. Read the study material that he posts on his website and do the homework assignments to succeed. Sometimes, as in my case, he raises students' grades for always showing up to class and to lab.
Oberg is entertaining and a cool guy. Makes some racy comments. His tests are based ENTIRELY off his notes that he has on his website so print them off and study them to get a good grade. I got a B+ but it's my first biology class ever. Very cool class if you ask me.
I took this class online and it was a breeze. There are no deadlines, you can do the homework til you get a perfect score and all the notes & reading are pretty basic. Only thing is you have to stay on top of it but you can work at your own pace.
I had this class online it would have been real easy had I not left it all to the last minute. There's No real time schedule. Homeworks were easy and could redo those as many times as needed. Tests to me were a bit challenging, not impossible. Offers extra credit to boost your grade.
Favorite professor period! Hilarious, and fun. No more needs to be said. Best lecturer at weber.
A LOVED Oberg online class, his material was very clear. Sounds like a lot in the beginning but there are 8 assignments 8 tests. BUT, he breaks the chapters up so you are not testing on 8 chapters at once, great study guides. HW can be redone until you get 100% and extra credit, I learned SO much.
Online class was easy. Everything was due at the end of the semester, which made it easy to catch up on if you miss a week. Test questions are worded in a confusing manner, however, fairly easy class. Slow to respond via email.
Took this class online and got NO help at all. He was curt & rude when I did ask for help. Every 2 wks: 70+ p. of reading + 10 p. of lecture notes + more! INSANE! 8 closed-book (50 question) quizzes; no final. Not specific on what to study for quiz which made it harder. Way tough class. I wouldn't recommend him or the class if you just need a GED.
I took this class online. His helpfulness was pretty sketch. If you have time to put into the class you will get a good grade.
Great guy, he's hilarious and his classes are some of the the most interesting on campus. Definitely worth taking from him if you have the chance. His advanced Micro classes are much tougher (mostly memorization) but he's still very clear with objectives and subject matter.
I took this class online. 8 chapters, w/ an easy assignment (20pts) and quiz (50pts) for each chapter. Quizzes are HARD. There's so much information. I worked my butt off and got an A only because of extra credit. He drops the lowest quiz. Lots of reading, lots of material, lots of memorizing. Be prepared to work. Textbook was $$$ but very helpful.
Each homework assignment can be done an unlimited number of times so that you can get 100. if you study the section objective then you know exactly what will be on the quiz. they are 50 questions, but my lowest score was a 42. book is mandatory.
A really funny guy, easy to listen to- I ended up wishing through the semester that he'd focus more on the course material and less on his personal experiences (hilarious though they may be). He starts class 5-10 minutes late every day and wastes a lot of class time talking about things that don't matter. This felt more like a high school course.
Easy class that requires a massive timesink and a ton of reading. The vast majority of the class is vocabulary based which is really bad if you have a hard time remembering names. Not an easy class if you are taking a full load and don't have time to memorize terms and names.
Fairly easy class, but time-consuming with the amount of reading. I took this course online, and it was not too difficult at all. Instructor offers some extra credit assignments as well, which is nice. Overall, I would certainly recommend taking Micro from Oberg.
I had this class online and it was great! He only has due dates at the very end of the semester so you work at your own pace. He is clear in what he wants. Just make sure to do the homework and study guides and you will pass the tests!
Dr. Oberg is a funny guy. He has all sorts of weird stories to share. Class time is not spent very well, he gets off topic a lot. But he gives you ALL the information you need to succeed. He gives handouts, typed lecture notes, chapter notes, he gives you everything to know what he's going to test you on. He's great!
I really loved Professor Oberg. I took his Micro 1010 class online. He maps it all out for you. He offers extra credit that's pretty easy. He wants you to succeed. I would definitely take another class from him.
Dr. Oberg rocks and as long as you go to class and listen, you will be fine. He is a trend man who wants to see you get better through the duration of the class.
Dr. Oberg has a story for everything that usually revolves around how amazing he is. He had a chip on his shoulder the entire semester and was not at all helpful. The only reason Microbial Genetics was hard was because he was too lazy to help students understand his fragmented, poor excuse for course notes. I am really disappointed in him.
Took this class online, big mistake. Hardly grasped any of the concepts. If you are an excellent independent learner, an above average in reading comprehension go for it. otherwise take this on campus.
Seems like a nice guy in class but doesn't have the time of day for you after class.
Funny man and a great professor. His class was easy, yet it still challenges you and will not bore you. Worthwhile labs add to this great class. Be sure to never underestimate this class or this professor, because although there are few assignments and no required readings, the exams can still be a bit tough.
If you are not interested in Microbiology do not take this class online. While he gives you all the tools you need to pass the tests and the assignments are a breeze, you will spend a lot of time studying if you do not enjoy learning about it.
Very flexible course. Everything is due the last day of class. The lowest quiz is dropped, but those and the assignments, which you can take as many times as you want for the best score, determine your grade. He offers extra credit, so take advantage of it. A lot of reading is involved.
The class wasn't too hard, but it takes a lot of time to study for the tests. As long as you do the Learning Objective questions, vocab, and read the study guide you are good to go. There 3 extra credits are worth a lot so I recommend to do it. And study a lot for your quizzes. Not once did I talk to the teacher online.
Very flexible class. There are 8 quizzes and 8 homework assignments due by the end of the semester and he drops your lowest quiz score. Make sure you really focus on the notes he gives you for the tests. I felt like most of the test material was on that. There is a lot of reading so don't put it off until the end of the semester.
I had this class online and it was great!.There are: 8 quizzes, 8 assignments (you can re-take assignments as many times as you want for better grade), and 2 Extra credits(each 12 pt.) due by the end of the semester. Q.1-7 must be taken prior to finals week & Q8 is due during finals week. NO QUIZZES CAN BE TAKEN AFTER THE FINAL DEADLINE.
Super fair teacher. Study his study guide closely and you will do fine on the quizzes. He drops your lowest quiz and offers extra credit. I loved the self paced set up and finished two months early. It freed me up to study for my harder classes. I would absolutely take another one of his classes. Text book is a must!!!
very entertaining. you will never be bored in this class. You don't need a book. All testing comes from notes that are posted online. I was amazed at Dr. Oberg's knowledge!
I took this class online. The class is very easy and self paced. Oberg requires all the work to be turned in by the end of the semester. The Professor was never heard from as all but two extra credit assignments are done in quiz format.
Fun professor to take as in classes were fun and he engaged the class. Still it seemed like he rambled and didn't tell you what was important for the tests. You could just study the handouts he gives you and the lecture notes/reviews he posts and you would have everything needed for the tests. I enjoyed him but he wasn't too helpful I felt.
Dr. Oberg is a good professor. He gives you the lecture notes you need for the exams online. No book required. His lectures are interesting but usually have nothing to do with the exams. Overall I would recommend his class.
I am a non-traditional student. This was my first attempt at college. I loved this class and Dr. Oberg's simple approach. Read and study this, take this homework quiz, take the test. Just so straight forward. I do agree if you are not a motivated, self starter, don't take this or really any class online. that is kind of the idea of online classes.
He is hilarious. I got "picked on" in the class many times and the jokes were always funny. Tests were a bit tricky sometimes, but he had everything in the notes. If you know the notes well you will get a good grade.
I would not suggest taking this class online. The book is especially confusing! I didn't even know what I was studying really. If you do take this class online make sure you stay on top of things or else it is really easy to get behind!
Definitely take this class from Oberg. I hear he's great in person too, but online was the way to go. Simple class format, just read the chapters, do the homework (unlimited attempts so you can get 100% every time), and take the quizzes. There are 8, he drops your lowest score. And offers tons of extra credit at the end. Pretty easy for micro.
I loved Dr. Oberg. He loves what he teaches and it shows. His lectures are confusing at first, just MAKE SURE YOU PRINT THE LECTURE NOTES FROM HIS WEBSITE TO FOLLOW ALONG. He makes lecture fun! He is SO funny, which makes lectures awesome. For the tests, he tells you exactly what to study. Don't buy the textbook, everything you need is on his notes
Oberg is my favorite teacher at Weber State. He always has something funny to say and he is interested in you as a student if you actually try in class and get to know him. His tests aren't easy but he is a trend guy so they are passable if you notice those trends. He sees if you are putting in an effort and will acknowledge that. Great teacher!
He makes microbiology really fun. The hardest part about the class were the labs, but that was to be expected. Learning the material wasn't too bad, and the tests were very fair.
One of the BEST online classes I've every taken. Courseexpectations are VERY clearly laid out. Study guides are amazing. Extra credit available. If you are an online student and need to take micro I highly recommend! A+++
As an online class i emailed him in the spring at the beginning of the semester, didn't hear back at all except for the department secretary in mid-June. Very overwhelming if you fall behind, just memorize the learning objectives, would absolutely NOT recommend.
He wasn't very clear about what he wanted and he didn't really explain anything in lectures. You basically have to figure things out on your own. Microbial genetics isn't a difficult class but you just have to stay on top of it. Attendance is kind of a waste of time because the notes and slides are online.
If you do all that he outlines for you the tests are pretty simple. Homework can be done as many times as you want to get a good score. The class overall is really quite simple.
Yikes. I dropped this class and it was way too much work for a undergrad class. If you are not interested in the subject this class appears pointless. Offers study guides, tests are 3 chapters a test. Chapters are huge. Very broad information. Hard Online class
He is the only one that teaches this class at Weber, so you don't really have a choice to take it from him. But he is an awesome professor. You write a lot of lab reports. I never even opened the book. Tests weren't that terrible, but he does expect you to know your stuff.
This class was frustrating. The grading criteria was unclear. There is a lot of homework expected which is good and bad. Good- tests are not weighed as heavily, bad- it's a lot of time. He is SUPER slow to respond to emails and when he does, he doesn't always answer the question completely. There is extra credit which is the ONLY good thing.
This was a pretty easy class. You do your homework which is 15 question quizzes and then you go take a 50 question test on that section. I did not use the text book I just studied the information he puts online and my quizzes and I always got in the high 70's on my quizzes. You do this class at your own pace which is awesome I would recommend it!
Loved this class, but the main reason I went to class was because he was funny; he got distracted easily and didn't cover all that much. Tests weren't that clear but he dropped the lowest. Labs were very interesting and helpful. Very little homework, no busy work. He was so funny and added in interesting micro facts. All lecture notes online.
Loved this class. Both Dr. Oberg and Dr. Sessions were awesome and the course itself was really interesting. Course is broken into 6 modules, each with a quiz and 1-2 page paper. Quizzes (mult. choice) require a fair amount of studying but profs are generous w/ grading on essays. Oberg is a jokester & keeps the microbiology aspect interesting.
Doctor Oberg is hilarious and keeps things interesting. He made me want to come to class and enjoy the time that I was there. Tests were kind of hard, but just required lots of studying.
Staying organized was tough. He does follow his syllabus, but you need to pay attention because you will start covering material from test 2 before you take test 1. That was confusing for me, I sometimes was studying for the wrong test. He does do a good job outlining what will be on the tests, so pay attention that day. Funny, but often off topic.
This online class was ridiculous. You have a crazy amount of assignments that are hard 40 questions each that are only worth 5 points. It takes forever because you have to read each chapter to even know about the questions. It is too much busy work if you are busy with other hard classes. My suggestion... don't take it.
Dr. Oberg does not require a textbook, but passes out a lot of handouts during class time that are not available online. His exams are relatively easy if you study and he grades homework on completion, instead of correcting it. He has a lot of funny stories that relate to microbiology and is a wonderful professor, both inside and outside lecture.
This class seemed like far too much work at first. However, you just need to learn how to prioritize studying and it's hardly any work. I never read any of the textbook, just did the homework questions and studied from the study guides posted. You can get B's on all quizzes and still get an A because of a TON of extra credit. There's also no final!
I am serious when I say THIS IS AN EASY A. No, I'm not someone who is naturally good with this kind of subject, I didn't study for hours on end. I literally took quizzes 4-8 within a month time span. Its an entry level class so its definitions and concepts. Nothing to deep. I never spoke to the professor once.
Microbes Rules! Was so funny. I actually enjoyed going!
Not much homework, he posts reviews that are mostly what his tests are based off of. So if you can study the reviews really well, it is a piece of cake. His faculty website is also a great tool. He is much better than any teacher in the micro department.
Good class with interesting material. Professors supply plenty of explanation and are easy to contact. Relatively light workload, don't wait until last minute to complete assignments.
Explains stuff with the help of funny examples which are easy to memorize.
This class is sooooo much reading. The tests are kind of hard but it's doable. Use quizlet to study and you'll pass.
I took this as an online class after hearing it was easy. You basically have two weeks to study for each quiz. There are a total of 8 quizzes and you definitely need to take time to study for them. There is a lot of material to cover in two weeks but it is possible. Gives a lot of extra credit at the end to help boost grades.
For this online class, you ONLY need to do two (maybe three) things to pass all tests. 1. Memorize the study guide. 2. Memorize the homework assignment. 3.(optional) watch the short videos. I'm serious. You don't need to do the reading, which takes way too long and has too much information. If you can do that, it's an easy A. Good luck!
The class is entirely self-paced so you have to be motivated and organized when it comes to taking the 8 exams. Lots of quizzes and reading assignments that are time consuming but as long as you actually do them, you'll get a good grade. He offers a lot of extra credit and an easy signature assignment to boost your grade.
Felt like attending class was a waste of time, shared some good stories but teaching was not the most productive. Need to go for the handouts, homework, and tips for lab and exams. I thought the exams were easy enough, but other classmates had a tough time. Do need to make time to study the study guides.
This class was fairly simple mostly graded on exams but the assignments before prepare you super super well for the exams. No comprehensive final!! Use of the book was mostly for the assignments since it was an etextbook. His lectures are short and too the point. He knows what hes talking about take this class from him!
The class was only reading 2-4 chapter the text book and taking a Smart Book quiz that will feed you questions until you pass. After, you do a quiz in Canvas with unlimited retries. Then you take a test with a single try. The questions won't be covered in explicitly in the text book, study guides, or any other resource. This can be frustrating.
Craig makes everything available from day one and you are expected to have everything in by the end of the semester. No due dates besides the final one for all your work. TONS of extra credit available. The quizzes are almost exactly the homework so just make sure you have a solid understanding of the homework! Good class!
Great professor loved listening to his lectures!Everything is due on the last day of the semester so do not procrastinate like I did.
Not a great class if you want to learn something. You're forced to read in order to answer the questions on the online textbook which is required. The "homework" and alternative quizzes aren't too bad. Lots of extra credit which is fairly easy. Not a great class, but not horrible if you just want the grade.
I've taken a few classes from Dr. Oberg. He's an amazing professor! He's very funny, and easy to talk to. His classes usually don't have much work, but the labs can be very intensive and can take weeks to finish one lab, but it's not bad! All his courses seem pretty easy. You have to take notes and he usually doesn't have his PowerPoints online.
I got a C (turned into a B due to pandemic and astonishing final paper, I think) because he gave us the wrong reading for the entire semester. Emailed him numerous times and received a single email telling me everything was fine. Failed most of the exams. And somehow he got an award... what a joke. Avoid this class if you don't want to fail.
The class was extremely easy to pass. The amount of work is appropriate for it being a gened class. However, the reading assignments given by the professor are extremely long and the page numbers do not correspond with he tells you. Ask him to fix it and he just says nothing is wrong. Easy A, but you have to get it yourself.
Easy class if you want an A grade. Lots of lecture to pass the quizzes but you can take those million times, so don't need to really read to pass. Lots of time to do homework. Overall you will not learn a lot if you have a background already about microbiology, but nice to pass with an A.
Textbook reading, lecture videos, and other digital handouts for each unit. Readings are shorter than they seem. Get it done and do it early to succeed. The hardest part was getting started - personal problem. Great class and responsive professor.
MICRO 1353. I really liked this professor, overall he's a very cool guy and the information for the assignments is readily available. He doesn't have clear rubrics for the assignments though and doesn't give feedback on why he docked you points. Interesting material and it's nice that all of the assignments are on your own opinions.
The professor is a cool guy and the class covers interesting material. The assignments are opinion-based, which is nice. However, the lack of clear rubrics and feedback can be frustrating. I found unstuck ai and ChatGPT helpful for class prep. Overall, a decent class if you put in the work.
