Awesome teacher. Teaches with Dr. Strom. Very informative and not a hard class at all. You learn a lot and it definately relates to everyday life. Easy A.
Very nice guy... goes out of his way to make sure you do well.... 3 tests... 3 hw assignments take his class he was great!
I love this guy! He's so funny and such a nice guy! very clear on the material... definitely worth taking this class!
phelps is awesome! he makes random jokes during the lectures and he's really funny. he's very easy to talk to and eager to help. the class is easy, the exam questions come from the lectures, the powerpoint slides are posted online, and minimal textbook use. i recommend this class for the great professor and for an easy A.
Really nice professor. Cute like a teddy bear. Don't really have to go to class and its a fairly easy class
good and easy teacher
I don't understand the infatuation with this class and professors. They are nice guys, but the lectures are incredibly boring and near useless. The only people who do well are environmentalists who have been well prepared for this material. It's not hard, but I didn't expect my worst grade of the semester (B) to be from environmental science!
Phelps teaches the majority of Env science 101. He is genuinely kind and wants his students to do well. Lectures can get slightly boring at times, but I still attended class and got use out of them. Lecture slides are posted online, attendance is not mandatory. Three multiple choice tests, fairly straight forward, review slides before tests
So overrated. I'm so annoyed Im getting a B in this stupid class. Not as easy as everyone makes it out to be. Not recommended as a science requirement filler.
Took this class online. Powerpoints that you should print out, videos, quiz each week, and easy discussions. So convenient and you're able to work at your own pace. Easy B+ with min. effort. I hate science but loved this class. Phelps responds to e-mails quickly and you can tell he loves teaching this stuff. This class really opens your eyes
He really cares about his students and is always willing to help and explain material further, if you are struggling with the material but he sees that you are making and effort he will help you out with our grade, the class is boring but he tries to make it as interesting as possible
not as easy as everyone says unless you have background on the subject or are majoring in science. But overall not a bad class but not an easy A. He's a nice guy.
nice guy, but very monotone and boring class. attempts weakly to generate interest. i couldnt help but fall asleep in all but 5 classes. sitting in the front didn't help at all. attendance is not counted, which is really sweet since he puts up the slides online too. tests are not hard, but you still need to study and look at the book a little.
Easy class that you can relax in. There are three online homework assignments that are extremely easy and you can change your answers until you're sure their right. His exams come straight off his powerpoints that he posts online. Going to lecture isn't a must but a good idea. I never went and got a B.
Really nice guy, very helpful and fair. Pretty easy exams, attendance not necessary, 3 super easy online hws and 3 exams. Overall easy class. If you need the book email [email protected]
His class isn't hard, but I found it overwhelmingly boring. He relies solely on slides which are close to being copied straight from the textbook, and he does not seem interested in generating enthusiasm for the subject.
Took this class online. Not hard at all and you can work ahead if you want. You can download the ppt slides off the website. Each unit has a 10 question quiz. Most of the questions are easy but there are some that are really tricky so be careful. Alot of the questions on the quizzes are used on the exams, which are also not too hard.
Great professor, easy class. As long as you study the powerpoint slides beforehand, you'll be fine. Memorize them. Also,I'm selling the book for this class, e-mail me at [email protected] if interested!
The professor reads off the slides then posts them on ecollege. You dont really have to go to class, only when there is an exam. Got a B+ in the class and went to 4 classes, 3 of them being exam days, and 1 being the first day.
I really didn't think this class was easy. It was incredibly hard to stay awake. Book isn't mandatory. Neither is going to class. He reads off the slides, and he posts them online. So you can teach yourself. Maybe just go to class when there's a guest speaker. Just do as much extra credit as possible because you might get an A with those points.
he just talks about his life the whole time he's not good. Cautiously take him
BORING. Reads off his slides. Go to class if you want a solid A. Don't go if you will read the textbook/ understand his slides. 5 easy graph-it quizzes.Extra credit opportunity by volunteering (1 hour = 1 point, up to 10 points)
Easiest class at Rutgers, going to lecture assures an A but it is easily possible without going there. He's not a bad professor, it's just a super easy class. Great GPA booster.
It's not an easy A. Maybe if you're only taking 12 credits and have time to memorize, and I mean MEMORIZE, 6-7 powerpoints each class, each having like 60+ slides, each slide loaded with info and def. And going to class is almost a struggle because lecture is REALLY boring. He's a great guy and has great intentions, but you have to try to get an A
It's All about memorizing the slides so you don't need to go to class. I hear it's easier online so you can look back at slides or google answers. He is nice and offers up to 10 extra credit points (1 hour of community service = 1 point). 5 EASY online hws that you can keep doing until you get a 100% and u can check what u got wrong thru gradebook
I thought this was gonna be an easy A class. It was not. There was A TON of memorizing to be done for his exams. I literally studied SO hard for my exams and still couldn't ace them. Did the extra credit though, bumped up my grade by like 5%. Tip: Volunteer at NBBE. Easy hours, non-dirty work. Didn't use textbook.
Phelps is a nice guy, but his tests are unnecessarily hard. The whole curriculum is online, (MindTap and TopHat), so unless you have someone answer your questions, you have to go to class, and lectures are pretty monotonous tbh. I studied for every one of his tests and I'll probably end up with a B. I'd take online if possible.
One of the easiest classes offered at Rutgers. Though attendance is kinda mandatory (super easy clicker questions), the exams only require studying the night before. Mark down the points that he emphasize in class and read over the slides. It's a solid B for those not willinggood at memorizing slides, but otherwise an easy A. Extra Credit GALORE.
I'm very annoyed to be getting a B in this class. Overall it's very easy but exams are a pain. He asks stupid questions to try trick you for idk what reason. An A is possible if you extensively read and memorize the lecture slides.
I didn't do well on my exams but professor Phelps offers a bunch of extra credits, you should definitely take advantage of that. His lectures are long and there is a lot of slides you need to readmemorize. But other than that, he is an awesome professor!
Phelps is a great guy and cares about his students. Relatively easy class. I received a B+, just make sure you study the power points. Online textbook that has all the homework assignments. Offers a lot of extra credit and there are somewhat of a curve for tests. part of grade is attendance
I took Phelps and Strom for Intro to Environmental Science to fill a gen ed requirement. I regret doing so because while the material itself is pretty straightforward, the tests they give are quite challenging. You have to know every detail to get a good grade, and you need to study a lot.
Took this class to fulfill core requirements. The material is not difficult, but there is quite a bit to memorize on each exam. Lots of extra credit available, and attendance matters-there are participation questions each day. Overall it's relatively easy, just study all the slides diligently a day or 2 before the exams and you'll be fine
Took this class online over the summer. Easy A. Keep up with the work and look over the power points the day of. Professor Phelps was really good with answering emails and really cared about students.
Overall, easy class. The book is online, you need it for the online homework assignments, and it's expensive. Two exams plus a non-cumulative final. All of the slides are posted on sakai so I never go to class. The material is pretty easy but the exams are easy to mess up because I always did worse than I thought. Offers up to 10 pnts extra credit!
To be honest I never went to class at all. Phelps allows you to make up tests, but for good reasons. He is a very good guy, and truly cares about the students. He worked around my crazy life occurrences and was very respectful about it. He provides the class with extra credit points for volunteering for the environment. Tests are harder than needed
phelps is a great professor. explains everything and makes the material easy to understand, i enjoyed going to his class. there is easy online homework and you dont need to buy the book. he gives great reviews before exams and is a really nice person i highly recommend taking him for intro to environmental
Easy A. I took Intro Env Sci in person and he's really nice and caring and has good, mildly funny jokes. I usually showed up to lecture, but you don't have to. Three non-cumulative multiple choice exams you can ace by looking over the slides the day before, and 10 easy homework assignments I did all in one weekend. Didn't pay for access code/book.
Do the work on time and it's an easy A. I only studied through lectures if I had to - most of the material I learned in high school so it was easy. There were two exams which were open notes so there's really no reason to not get an A. Posting an introduction during the first week gets you extra credit. He's understanding about personal issues
Great class and material, but okay lecturer. Voice can make you fall asleep at times. Many say to just study his slides before exams to get an A. Don't trust them. I read and studied everything, and got a B+ (would've been an A if he was willing to round it). Overall, just read and study, and you'll pass. Oh, and take the online version instead.
Phelps is really great, he really cares and works with his students when they're struggling or worried about their grade. He uses an online textbook with really easy homeworks that count toward your grade along with a few exams that aren't cumulative. He's really amazing, i highly recommend.
Reads off the slides in every lecture making it pretty useless to go especially since he posts all the slides on Sakai the day before lecture. He also posts the exam study guide online a few days prior to the exam. Tests are practically memorization and common sense. Offers extra credit if for volunteering in the environment. 3 non cumulative exams
I honestly never went to a single class. He just reads straight off the powerpoints so there's no point in going. Information is extremely easy but the tests are way harder than they need to be and hw in this class is also a pain. There's no reason to get a C+ in Environmental science 101
The class consists of easy online homework & 3 noncumulative exams. Exams are not the easiest to get an A on but you can easily pass by reviewing the powerpoints a few times. Professor Phelps loves what he teaches & really cares about his students & wants them to get good grades. He even offers up to 20 points extra credit. I recommend taking him.
Teaches an extremely thorough and understandable class. Very friendly and always positive during lecture, absolutely take his classes if you have the opportunity to.
Class is boring, but he makes it easy. Lots of homework, but very easy. Tests are based off lecture slides, which he provides. The tests are pretty broad, and he provides study guides which will help. He offers a good amount of extra credit to help you grade. Stopped showing up to lectures after first exam and still did fine.
Took this online class and it was pretty easy. The semester is broken down into units which can take a little longer and a quiz each week which are really easy to complete. There are 6 discussion posts, a mid-term and final which are also easy. Take him!
Very passionate guy for what he teaches however his voice and can really monotone. Very easy to contact him and he truly wants his students to do well. He offers extra credit too! I showed up about 4 times besides the exams and still managed to receive an A. Just make sure you study his study guides completely and you'll be fine. Great professor!
The class requires an online textbook in which I couldn't afford at the time of first assignments. Dr. Phelps gave me a free access code and went out of his way to help me with my situation. He responds fast to emails and truly cares about teaching the material in a fair, yet straightforward manner. As long as you put in minimal work, its an Easy A
Pretty easy class. All you need to do is complete the weekly homework assignments and set aside some time to study for the exams. Lectures are really boring but I wouldn't even say you really need them. It's mostly just homework assignments and memorizing facts.
I didn't do as well as I had hoped during some of the exams and average about a75% (with studying). He explained things well and also finished right up on time, also kept cracking jokes every day although not many people laughed. I really respected that. Also, extra credit bumped me up a whole 5% in my grade. Couldn't have done it w/o him
He uploads the lecture slides to canvas and the quizzes are open notes and based on the slides. Exams were very easy. He is an amazing guy and always responds to emails very fast. He made this course very easy and fun, definitely take him!
Easy A class. All the quizzes and exams multiple choice come straight from the ppt he posts online. Many answers and study guides are available on Quizlet. Only 10 hw assignments. Quizzes are super short and easy. Lots of extra credit available, I didn't do it and still got an A. Zoom lectures are optional which I never attended.
There are 2 lectures every week with a 4 question lecture quiz. All information on the quizzes, midterms, and final comes directly from the PowerPoints that Phelps assigns. Reading the textbook definitely helps. Environmental is such an interesting and easy class. Definitely take this if you want to fulfill NS/CCO!
Great professor who is super understanding/accommodating when it comes to assignments. Quizzes and exams are pretty straightforward - lots of facts to memorize but filling out study guide suffices. Extra credit is also plentiful. A positive and cheerful man.
Prof Phelps is caring and knowledgable. Live lectures were optional to attend, but what he had to say during them was very interesting. Class consisted of easy homework assignments and weekly quizzes (2 a week), 3 exams that came right from the lectures, and lots of extra credit opportunities. Definitely recommend this class under his instruction!
This class was one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. As a summer class, there was an assignment due everyday but they were very easy and doable. Quizzes for every unit and 2 exams which were open note & textbook. There were 6 discussion posts that were extremely easy and took 10 min to complete. The course was also super interesting. 10/10!
He is an awesome professor. You can tell he cares about his students and wants us all to succeed. He offers extra credit, and provides slides for every test. Every test is open book. Definitely take him for intro to env science!!!!!
Great prof. Very understanding and adaptable. Could have been an A if I tried harder lol. In total there were 2 midterms and a final. Short quiz after each lecture, which were very easy. Final not cumulative. Offers extra credit & HW/quiz makeups. Allows us to join via zoom for lecture instead of in person. Attendance isn't mandatory for either.
Amazing professor! Exams and Quizzes are open notebooks. He's very understanding and allows makeup for students if needed. The lectures are online and in person and attendance isn't mandatory. Definitely recommend taking him!!!!!
Great professor! Whole course is ~25 (recorded, online, in-person) lectures with lecture quizzes based on each one, 10 homework assignments (relatively easy), and 3 exams, which are all open-note+open-book. I think he knows many people take this course to fulfill NS credits, so this might be a central reason for the simplicity. So, cool prof/class.
Craig is the GOAT, take this class with him for SAS core it's a complete vibe. While I took the class in person, he offers a zoom option which is so kind. He cares about his students and the environment so much and as long as you put in some effort, you will succeed. The exams were open book and he even offers extra credit.
Super nice prof who cares about his students. Pretty easy and straightforward class; the tests are online and open note which is a plus.
Great professor , Best of all. He uploads all lecture slides on canvas and attendance wasn't mandatory. Though lecture was in person, he offers zoom online classes as well. He made this course so easy to understand. Open notes easy quizzes . Open notes easy exams on canvas. Offers many opportunities for extra credit. Easy A and GPA booster.
Professor Phelps is a very nice man who really wants to see his students succeed. Take his class if you can if you try and just do the work you'll get an easy A
Professor Phelps made things very easy for everyone, if you did not want to attend class in person there was also a zoom open for you. His homework would be annoying at times, but it's not all too bad. There was always a lecture quiz after each lecture which was only 4 questions, very easy. As long as you do your work you're fine.
All his lectures are on zoom, recorded, and notes are posted. Tests are on canvas and open note. The only downsides are that his lectures can be a bit boring at times, and that there is weekly homework and quizzes on canvas. Great class if you want to knock out both an NS and CCO credit.
Awesome class. Even more awesome professor. The class itself is very easy and is based on homework on an outside platform and lecture quizzes and three exams on Canvas. The material itself is extremely easy and the professor is also very understanding. There were times I woke up late for exams and Dr. Phelps still allowed me access to take exams.
he's a really sweet guy and he posts all his lectures. the exams, quizzes, and hws are all online and multiple choice. They can be kind of frustrating at times but overall incredibly low effort class and easy A. good for SAS NS req
Very, very sweet and caring professor. I missed deadlines a few times, and he was extremely understanding and would extend them for me. Exams in this class were extremely straightforward as well. Hands down, one of the best classes and best professors I have taken at Rutgers. Definitely take his class if you need the NS degree requirement.
Literally refused to round my 89.66 to an A. rounded down to a B+ instead. Could not give me the grace of 1/3 of a point. It's minimal effort to fill a NS req but like are u fr u couldn't do that.
The most easiest class that you will get an A on. Attendance was not mandatory and you would have quizzes to complete on canvas which were super easy. His exams were online so you could do it from home and it was based off the slides. He also offered extra credit. The sweetest professor ever.
W mans. He has Zoom meetings for his lectures and records them. His exams are open book and it is so free. This guy is amazing.
This class was great. He records his lessons to post online and also has a zoom during class hours so there is no need to show up to class. He is very passionate about environmental science and is very knowledgeable. He does go over a lot of content during lectures, but the assignments are never too difficult. Definitely take this class!
Extremely understanding and kind professor; very passionate about the environment. Genuinely wants to see you succeed, and will make accommodations for your midterm exams, which are online and asynchronous. He live streams his lectures on Zoom, so you could attend online, if you wanted. All in all, great experience with this class and professor.
Great guy, very understanding that some students were taking only for NS req. Spent maybe 45 min a week on work for this class. Forgiving on extensions and late assignments. Lots of resources available to succeed.
Professor Craig is such a sweetheart. Attendance was not mandatory, and exams were open note-booked. Please if you are able to. Try and go to lectures in person. Yes, they can be really boring but at the end of the semester a total of 10 kids showed up to lecture. Overall great professor and an easy A.
I skipped most of my classes and still received an A. The hw is annoying to do sometimes but its doable. Quizzes are based on lectures but all answers are on quizlet. Each exam is open notes and 99% of the questions are on quizlet too and he doesn't care if we google. Such an amazing prof. Highly recommend!!
so cute
The GOAT and such a sweet guy
SUCH a good teacher, so sweet. Extra credit opportunities if needed, but class is def an easy A. 10 homework assignments, 3 chances for each question. Quizzes based on the lecture each week, very easy. 3 exams, also very easy. Love this prof, take him!
He is geniunelly so nice and really wants to see you succeed. If you just keep up on the work in this class you should be more than fine, I learned a lot from him!
Tests are open note and very straightforward. Each lecture gets a 4 question quiz that goes along with it but they are straight from the lectur. There are homework assignments due almost every week and they are a bit time consuming and they are the hardest part about the class, but they aren't that bad. You get three attempts to get a 100 on each.
Professor Phelps class is such an easy class SERIOSULY. Every week you have homework but you have 3 tries for each question. After every lecture you have a quiz and there are 3 exams. Don't sweat it.
Great Professor, straightforward class, knows what he is talking about.
First semester here and I already think this man might be my favorite professor even in the future. Great guy who posts everything online and the exams are even all at home. Take this class for an easy NS core class and bc of the professor. Protect that man at all costs and take his class!!!!
This class was super easy as he posts the slides he uses for lectures that you can use to help on homework. He also posts extra credit opportunities. He is super sweet and kind and is passionate about his job. There is homework every week and a quiz that goes along with it. Only two exams, this class is an easy A! Overall great professor!
Sweet Professor, but boring lecture.
This class was an easy Natural Science course that also fulfills two credits (CCO + NS). The workload is not time-consuming, and all assignments are open-note and straightforward. Clear guidelines and requirements are provided for what needs to be submitted. As long as you turn in everything on time, you will earn an A.
Professor Phelps is extraordinarily caring about his students. The course itself covers a lot of different subjects, and he does a good job explaining each one. Definitely an interesting class with a light workload.
Cared more about teaching than testing. Very knowledgable about subjects and always willing to help and work with students.
Such a sweetie
tests online open notes
Possibly the easiest class I've ever taken. Very nice guy who cares about his course. Classes have a zoom link and tests are online. Lectures can get a little boring, but the class is so easy that you don't really have to go. You will get an A.
You might not learn much in this class but all the work is super accessible and easy to complete. Great experience
Don't even have to show up, everything is online. Difficulty of a middle school science class. Assignments take a bit of time but are easy. Great class to fulfill some SAS core reqs.
PROS: - very friendly - explains concepts effectively - online site is very organized CONS: - difficult to rebound grade if homework assignment is missed
The easiest class I've ever taken at Rutgers. All exams and homework were online and attendance was not mandatory.
Dr. Phelps is such a g he did classes on zoom in case you were sick or couldn't make it! Open notes exams and he's just a very sweet guy. This class fulfilled my NS requirement! Super straight forward and honestly pretty interesting.
Lectures are a bit boring but the workload being so low makes it so easy. I did not find myself stressing over this class once, you get two assignments per week and 2 readings to do of chapters in the textbook.
This course was really simple, it's basically an online class because he posts everything on canvas. Even zoom links. Just take it for the A. He's super understanding too, I missed my exam and he let me make it up.
Basically an online course, super easy. Very friendly professor. Definitely a GPA booster. Posts everything online and even has zoom calls for the lectures.
such a caring and sweet person. The classes are not mandatory, everything is online (hw + exams), making the class a great elective / gen ed that wont add much to your plate. you can do all the homework early and not need to worry about it. try not to forget about it though since the late penalty could mess with your grade. overall def recommend
he is very sweet and caring. I highly recommend taking a class w him. I took environmental science. u can tell he's very passionate about it and everyone ik who has taken a class w him loved it!! overall a great professor and u can tell he cares about his students
10/10 recommend for an NS and CCO requirement! extremely sweet and caring prof, posts zoom links and even records the zooms if u can't make it to class, hw and exams are on mcgraw hill, 2 days to do each 5 question hw, answers emails and sends out reminders, extra credit opportunity but u probably won't need it, genuinely passionate ab what he does
Everything is posted online. Definitely take this class for credit.
