Excellent lectures, writes notes along with students on overhead projector. Very knowledgeable about the course material and the environment. Interesting small group projects that directly help the environment.
so Easy..take it for an easy grade!
He's a good teacher. He knows alot about biology. His grading is not based on a straight scale.Concentrate on his notes and the text book in order to get a good grade. This course has lots of information contained in it. So, be prepared for it.Good teacher.
Mr Stettner is ok. SOmetimes not clear, but sometimes easy to understand.
easy, take it
i got a D
He's VERY nice and cares a lot about the subjects he teachers. As long as you go to class and take notes, you're guaranteed an A.
Watch the final hes a great guy but he tricks ya on the final material got a c and happy with it
Criag was the most generous, caring teachers I have ever had. I was struggling and he was always there to help me. He seriously, honestly is the nicest guy I have ever met. Take his class!
He's a wonderful teacher. He writes out the notes on the board as the class goes along and welcomes questions. His tests are short answer and fairly simple, if you've listened in class and done the reading. His final is a b*tch though...
What a nice teacher. Takes attendance. His quizzes are piece of cake but his final is EXTREMELY hard. Tests are write in the blanks (write anything never leave blank he gives you parcial credit if your answer is anything close) WATCH OUT FOR THE FINAL ITS MULTIPLE CHOICE (10 CHOICES PER QUESTION)!!!
This guy is awesome!! He is so laid back and doesn't really care a lot about structure. He's funny and easy going and can relate to the students. Overall he's awesome and if you can, you should definatly take a course with him!!
Tough taecher do not recomend him to anyone!!! His test suck and are VERY LONG!! Very BORING!! He changes the questions of the 100 questions final!! He's looney
This teacher sucks. Tests are hard and not even multiple choice! I got an A in the class but Zoology shouldn't have been that hard. Only good thing about him is he lets you drop your lowest exam and bring in canned food for extra credit.
STETTNER IS AN EXTREMELY HARD TEACHER. AT LECTURE HE OVERSIMPLIFIES HIS NOTES, BUT COME THE TEST DATE UR CONFUSED. I ALMOST THOUGH THAT THE TESTS WERE WRITTEN IN CHINESE!! DONT TAKE HIM...NOT A BLOW OFF CLASS
You're better off reading the book during the lecture. The guy that wrote the book writes the tests and the lectures mean jack. i just played with the animals during lecture and i still got a c.
This teacher sucks!! He plays favorites with the students. If your not one of his favorites, watch out!! He is not open to questions & looks at you like you are dumb if you ask him something (especially after class). His lectures are boring & he does nothing to try & make class interesting. He is by far the worst teacher I have ever had!!!!!!!!!
hes a very nice guy.if you go to him with a problem he will find a way to help you.he wants you to do well.i have to say though come test time there are confusing questions cause he didnt touch on them in class.i think he should go over everything on the tests before you take them. besides that i loved the class. the movies we watched were great.
This was the worst class Ive ever taken! Hes a nice guy but he cant teach! The tests are all a pain in the ass and he doesnt prepare us for them what so ever. Good luck to whoever takes his courses because you either gotta be a bio major or a genius to pass this one!
Nicest guy on Planet Earth. There were 200 people in my class by the second day he had every persons name memorized. He is very understanding and caring. He is willing to do anything for his students. It has been 2 years since I had him and everytime he says hi (still remembers my name) and asks how my brother is.He also puts cool stickers on tests.
Awsone teacher. Test were long but easy. Just show up and pay attention and take notes. No homework very easy class and fun at the same time.
Most caring Nice guy you will ever meet. My class had 200 students and he had everyones name memorized by the second day. He is willing to do anything to help his students. I have never met someone as nice as him. The people that talk bad must be screwups.
One of the sweestest guys in the world. He is so easy and the lectures are easy. If you have notes from lecutures, then you will pass the tests. He is so nice to his students. He took us on nature walks and let us play card games with animals. He gave you stickers on your tests so cute. Everytime I see him he says hello and I had him last year.
Awesome class Environmental Biology, it was a lecture hall and yet he knew everyone's name that's insane easy class and a good teacher.
Owesome, caring and very helpful teacher. He will do everything to help you succed.
omg looks like the guy in Euro trip who cant have the powdered sugar on the french toast... but over all very nice... hard tests!
He offered x-tra credit in the summer and if you couldn't get the labs he helped you and explained it better until you understood it
This class is soooo horrible. He doesnt know how to teach, he doesnt know how to help his students and he doesnt know how to be prepared. If you want to pass this class do not take his class.
He is a very nice person, but his class is VERY difficult. Each class there are activities, where as long as you go you get some points. This helps out a lot actually because his tests are REALLY hard. They are multiple choice, but I kid you not, some questions have 16 choices, which totally defeats the purpose of multiple choice. The final was fair
Good teacher, but tests are very difficult. You need to remember specific details in the book, or you'll be outta luck on the tests. Do the extra credit, and keep up with the assignments. They are insanely easy.
His class is kinda wierd...ridiculously easy classroom assignments that kindergarteners could do & then insanely difficult exams. Offers extra credit, which is pretty easy (habitat restoration) & helps a lot. Just going to class will get you 5 pts which add up. Some exam questions have a bajillion matching &/or multiple choice, so know your stuff.
just your standard teacher. To get an A or B must do all assignments and extra credit work. Tests are very difficult.
this class sucks and so does he...
His class isnt the easiest but it also isnt the hardest. His test are curved, which is nice because they are insanely hard. If you want to get an A then buy the book, study for the test, and do the extra credit. if you dont need the A, dont even buy the book.
take notes, read the book, and do the extra credit. It's a must if you want to get an A.
Horrible teacher, his lectures were simple and he was always unprepared. Doesnt explain well, when you ask him a question he almost seems like he doesnt know the answer. He has to think about it for a while before he can actually answer. I did the extra credit and i still did bad in his class. Everyone would complain about his class but he would ne
WTF this guy is an idiot. no one did well. its an f-ing zoology class. he made it sooo hard. dont take him take the lady, sandy kreiling i think her name is. she is awsome.
Test are very very very hard- Easy handouts in class, must do extra credit, and must be an alien to pass these tests...Multiple choice with almost every possible letter combination! Avoid this class at all costs, unless your truly a tree huggin' hippy!
Teaches everything in class and does not take attendance but gives out 3-5 5 point assignments for evening classes, does not use textbook but expects you to know it. Not very good for outside class help.
This class if very laid back and can get slow and boring. Lots of points for in class activities. He gave you the option for enough extra credit to raise your grade by one letter. This class is not difficult if you pay attention and read the book.
Botany. I have no interest in plants. Boaring lectures, nice man, somewhat unclear. BUT there is A LOT of extra credit, that's how I passed and science is my weekness. If you're like me, and HAVE 2 take a lab, take him, BUT DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT POSSIBLE and you will pass. If i can do it, anyone can do it.
Easy lectures but more difficult tests. You must read the chapters in the book to do well on the tests. He gave a lot of extra credit. Class consisted of outside activities, games, movies, and lecture. Very nice.
A really great guy!! loves his job & what he teaches!
Craigs class is great. One awesome thing is I didn't have a single homework assignment all semester. You have to show up for class because you get points for in-class stuff and you have to pay attention to lectures (he puts some pretty obscure details on the tests). The tests require actually studying, but no homework the rest of the time!
he is awesome! yes you have to study for test, yes you have to go to class, yes lectures are sometimes boring, but he is such a cool teacher, welcomes any comments and concerns, gives enough EC that you will pass the class no prob! absolutely no HW! he's so passionate, makes you want to learn more! definitely take him!
He is awesome! yes you have to study for test, yes you have to go to class, yes lectures are sometimes boring, but he is such a cool teacher, welcomes any comments and concerns, gives enough EC that you will pass the class no prob! abs no HW! he's so passionate, makes you want to learn more! definitely take him! rated him opposite what i meant oops
Fun class, until the tests. Some questions can be obscure and useless. For instance, one question asked which of 5-6 species of dragonfly. Just absurd. On some days in summer, we spent over an hour cutting buckthorn outside instead of learning. Unless you enjoy memorizing random specific textbook facts, avoid. Take Kreiling instead, he's great.
He is so interested in the information he teaches it makes it so much more interesting to learn. Easy to pass as there are a lot of activities and EC to boost your grade. Spent a lot of time outside learning about plants which made it so much more interesting and class goes by so fast. He is also a really nice guy won't make you feel bad ever.
Don't take his class! He knows his stuff but definietly doesn't know how to pass it down and teach a class! Tests are horrible, not relevant to lecture, questions with 8 multiple choice which all seem correct or not.I regret taking his class, waste of time, money, and nerves! His notes suck! Has a sarcastic smile on his face all the time! Annoying
Mr. Stettner is an amazing teacher! The class does get difficult at times, but if you listen to what he is saying you won't have any trouble passing. Mr. Stettner is very easy to approach and he goes out of his way to help his students! It was because of him that I grew to love Zoology!
He is awesome and really, really nice. Lectures can get boring. Tests somewhat hard, some questions are really specific. Have to study a little for tests. Never any homework. Attendance not mandatory but needed for in class labs and work. Really passionate about his work. Very helpful. Overall a good class.
READ THE BOOK! His test ask questions about extremely random things from the book that you wouldn't think to read, like a picture caption, so read everything! But he offers a lot of extra credit, so do it and you will be fine!
great teacher lots of EC not hard to pass u cant fail
You will be fine with him. He is cool. There a lot of EC. You will pass for SURE!
It is not bad class but a lot of EC then you will be fine. Mr. Stettner is a cool.
Gives a lot of ec, tests could be a little difficult and long but study and youll do fine
Really, really nice guy. You definitely need to study (and take advantage of extra credit!). His problem is that he's so smart, he doesn't realize how hard his class can be some times. Again, super nice guy, very passionate about biology. One of my favorite professors at Harper.
His tests are ridiculous. 4 tests, 100 Q's each. Cumulative final. 5 lab exams worth 100 points. He never really answered any questions I had. The highest grade I got was a 78%. Only reason I got an A was because of the extra credit. This class was frustrating beyond belief! Just avoid it!
sweet guy, he is always available for questions/concerns. Passionate about Biology. Tests are 100 Q's total but if you pay attention in class, you will do fine.
He's such an awesome guy who's just too smart for his own good. You HAVE to ask questions or else he will not clarify what he's talking about. You'll be going on short hikes outside (wear appropriate shoes). The exams are virtually impossible to ace but the plus side is that he offers a ton of extra credit!
He is the sweetest, most caring person i have ever met. He's funny, and he cares about his students, and loves his job. He will do anything for his students, because he wants you to pass. I know from first hand exprience. I struggled in his class, and he was always there to help me. Tests are very hard,i hear final is worse. He's my favorite teacher.
Tests are extremely hard. You HAVE to read the chapters for the exams if you want to pass. For lab portions, mainly go outside and walk around. 5 points a day, so you kind of have to show up and if you don't, find a partner to give you notes. He's a very sweet guy and loves saving the planet. A lot of opportunity for extra credit.
Great teacher he makes students want to learn. only thing is if you want >c you have to read your book, you can miss a few classes and still pass. test are a little hard so book is very helpful notes kinda neeeded lab portion was real easy just go outside and walk around EC was pretty easy just go out to help cut wood down and write on it can do 2
Very interesting class. You have to work hard to get a good grade. I thought the tests were quite hard, but as long as you study and put in the effort, you'll do fine. He gives many extra credit opportunities so take advantage of that.
He is a super nice dude. He gives a ton of extra credit, he is super nice, and cool. Of course exams are hard because its a zoology class. But the ton of extra hundred points extra credit will help you pass the class. If you are a failing student theres no way you'll fail because you have so many chances to pass. I love this teacher. take him.
He gives ALOT of Extra Credit. He's AWESOME!!
He is super knowledgeable of his stuff, and he's a really nice guy. You will have to show up and read the book, though. Also, he seems to tailor his tests to specific classes, so if someone asks a question about a topic he doesn't cover in lecture, it could come up on the exam, so take good notes. I'd recommend him, though.
great teacher. def take him
I love Mr. Stettner. He is a genuinely nice guy with the best interest of his students in mind, with a true love of nature. This particular class is solely terminology. Stettner will expect you to remember scientific/common names of hundreds of animals. Be prepared to take notes, read the book and don't sleep.
He is awesome. He made coming to this hard class worthwhile. He is adorable in a geeky way and you can tell he is very passionate about what he teaches. This class was EXTREMELY HARD. You had to memorize slides of microscopic animals as well as their complex names. I failed every quiz & still got a C in the class. There are a lot of labs and movies
Mr. Stettner is an awesome professor! He is a little quirky but very knowledgable and completely willing to help and answer questions. This class is NOT easy, but there are lots of opportunities for extra credit. I would definitely recommend taking this class with Mr. Stettner :)
Had him for Zoology. We went outside almost every day before the labs. There was a lab every day, sometimes a lecture, sometimes a movie instead. If you worked hard you will do well, and he offers lots of extra credit at the end! He's a cool guy.
Stettner was a nice guy. He loves working in the Biology field. His tests were pretty hard, and a ton of words were crammed onto one page, making it hard to read, but he is more than willing to help. Went outside every lab class. Must use the book. Lot of extra credit opportunities.
Stettner is a great teacher. I always thought it was amazing that in his huge lectures, he could memorize everybody's name. Nice guy, hard class. Tests are are hard but a lot of opportunities for extra credit
Enjoyed this class. Great going outside. I think he was good at explaining man's relation with it. Read notes, surveys & 4 chapters for tests. A lot of info.) Credit for taking surveys every day in class! I got an A or At. Thanks to easy extra credit. Very nice teacher. He knows all students names in class. Awesome! Bought used book ($6.00!)
Craig!! He's an awesome teacher. Very passionate and hands on. Tests were hard go to lecture take notes! Labs are pretty easy and fun. One of my favorite teachers. Good guy overall!
Craig!!! My favorite teacher hands down. Very cool and he knows everything!!! Passionate. Hard tests go to lecture. He sparked my interests of animals and the beauty of nature. Awesome great guy overall and very caring.
Stettner! I LOVED this teacher. Best Teaher I've ever had honestly. I learned a lot and was very interested in everything we learned even though it's not even close to what my major is. The test are pretty hard but he gives a lot of extra credit and its fun! You will go outside for you lab which I thought was a nice change. I got an A+
Interesting class, but tests were pretty hard. You have to know it well because almost every question asks all of the above, none of the above, or combinations of all that are correct. The text on the tests are extremely crammed onto each piece of paper, probably to save trees. He is a very nice, down to Earth guy with xtra credit. Got a B
One of my favorites. Genuinely cares for what he teaches and his students. Offers extra credit because biology classes may be difficult for some. No reason to pass with anything less than a B. YOU NEED THE BOOK, all of your labs will be right from out of there, and its generally helpful to look through. I really enjoyed his class, I'd take it again
Stettner is a great teacher I honestly got a 100% in the class. The test aren't that hard. You just have to write everything he says during lecture (I men everything)! Yu will have 3 test and a final. For each test you have to cover a chapter on your own. Make sure you read this carefully! The lab quizzes are okay, and the labs are fun.
Very easy teacher. Have to study a bit for the tests but fairly easy to pass the class. Offers extra credit. You go outside for the most parts of lab which I didn't like in the heat. But I survived. Take him!
Expect all labs to be outside for at least half of the time for class. You are expected to read one chapter on your own for each exam. There are three exams and a final. Enough extra credit to boost your grade an entire letter grade if you do it all.
Great guy who is extremely knowledgeable about his field. Expect to have a lot of trouble with lecture exams and lab exams, but extra credit should easily bring you up to an A if you've been struggling with a B- or C+ all semester.
he is an awesome teacher, i loved the class. he has a ton of animals that you can play with. the tests are hard and so are the lab exams, so study hard. but there is a lot of extra credit opportunities. he likes to develop a relationship with the students. he his very smart and knows what he us talking about. TAKE THIS CLASS, YOU WILL LIKE IT.
Took this class over summer at a community college. As someone who attends a university in the city, this class was a breath of fresh air (literally). While we were outside nearly every day during the hot summer, his lectures were fairly interesting and he's a great guy, if a bit on the quirky side.
Mr. Stettner is so nice, he gives huge opportunities for extra credit and gets to know each of his students. The only thing about his classes is that you have to write down literally everything he says. Even when I thought I had great notes, there was material on the tests that I was unsure of. Small group is fun, you get to go outside a lot!
Craig is a great teacher and is really at Harper to interact with and help students. He is in his office a lot always willing to chat about class or a mystery bird you saw outside. He also is the adviser to the Environmental club which he brings food and fun conversation to every week. Take his class and join his club.
Craig is a great guy, really does his best to make each class enjoyable. Lectures can be a little dull sometimes but Craig takes his passion to make the material come to life. Lab portion of class is usually outside but only when conditions are good. If you do all extra credit opportunities, can bring your grade up several letters. Buy the textbook
HES OK BUT YOU HAVE TO STUDY A LOT AND TAKE NOTES
BEST TEACHER EVER!!! Craig really cares about his students' success. He always makes class fun, like going outside in the warm months, or bringing out hundreds of examples of animals. Best class I have ever taken. I would take it again if I could. Tests are hard, make sure to study. But there are a lot of points available to get an A or B
I HATE HIS CLASS! Zoology was very fun and he is so cool but his class was the roughest thing I have ever taken. So many memorizations of animals and their taxonomy orders.
Okay I loved this class! Yes the exams are tough and you have to study but he offers so much extra credit that it is possible to receive an A or B. You get to play with animals, go outside and it is all around a fun class. Craig is extremely passionate with what he does and he is an awesome guy all around! Take this class.
Great teacher, gives a TON of extra credit in his zoology class. It makes up for the hard tests, big time. And you actually get to learn! You know, what college is about. Also you get to play with class animals during lecture every single day :) The professor is very knowledgeable in his field and is extremely kind to his students.
Professor Sterner is he best! he is the nicest man I have ever met. He truly cares about his students, and only wants them to do well. I would take his class again anyway, and i am not even smart in Science!! We go outside when its nice out and his extra credit projects are so much fun!!!
This class was so much fun. Expect to go outside ALOT. The tests are hard but he gives SO MUCH extra credit, it's impossible to fail. He's just a great guy and loves nature.
Craig Stettner is awesome! I did not want to take a science class at all, but he definitely made it worth my while. He offers so much extra credit (over 100 points)! I got D's on tests, but still ended with an A in the class. Every lecture he gives you exercises which are nice grade boosters. Expect to go outside. Craig is really nice and helpful!
Craig is an amazing teacher, probably my favorite and I do not like science classes. He's quirky and a little weird at first but you will love him by the end, he's hilarious. Do not take bio 103/104 if you do not like going outside because that is all you do. If you do like going outside, it's an easy A. No homework except to read. Study for tests.
He comes off weird at first but you'll get used to it. He knows his stuff and he's truly so nice! He offers a lot of extra credit and chances to do them so he wants you to pass! You can do bad on the exam and still pass the class with a B with all the extra credit opportunity. He crams a lot of questions on the exams too!
Me Stettnar is a really good teacher. His lectures are very understanding.
Absolutely in love with his job and studies. Very enthusiastic about the subject matter, and lots of opportunities to get hands on. Beware of skipping out on lab or classes though - tests often cover material that is not in the textbook. Does give tons of easy/free points in the way of in-class activities.
Craig is an awesome teacher! You can really tell he is passionate about what he teaches. Also the class is a bit hard (10+ exams) but there is so much extra credit you can still pass with a good grade. You also do go outside a lot but it's a lot of fun! This was my Favorite class & professor and I wish I could take it again.
I took this class during the summer, we went outside almost every single day to walk along the lake, in the woods,& sometimes to do some very messy &gross activities. Going to class & outside earns you participation pts. He is not very good at conveying material in class so you NEED to read the book to do well on exams. There is LOTS of memorizing.
Craig is AMAZING!!! He's a really cool guy and knows what he's talking about. There are 4 tests total, which are hard, but he gives over 100pts extra credit so it's like one bad test didn't happen. It's Man & ENVIRONMENT so you do go out almost everyday but I loved it. It was so fun and interactive. Great teacher who's passionate and cares
Awsome guy. Very smart and passionate about the world. GIVES A TON OF EXTRA CREDIT. Impossible to fail with all the extra credit.
Craig really is awesome, he gives a ton of extra credit and really does care about what he teaches. It is seriously impossible to fail the class if you show up and do some extra credit. 100% take this man's class if you can, he really is awesome. I am taking one of his classes again next semester.
Hands down my favorite Biology professor! Would recommend!!! You get a lot of extra credit and its just an overall fun class. You go outside for most of your labs. Craig is so understanding!!! Everyone loves the guy!
Craig is my absolute favorite teacher of all time, I have taken zoology and man & environment with him and I am going on his field bio class to Costa Rica this winter. Zoology means a lot of memorizing but he gives a ton of extra credit on the tests and in the class in general so it is easy to do well. Man & environment was the easiest class ever.
I loved Craig's class. He's such a nice teacher and you can really learn a lot if you pay attention. Plus the outdoor days where great!
Craig is amazing. At first you'll find him quirky and different but he grows on you. I made the mistake of missing lecture a lot and that really affected my grade because EACH lecture he grades and gives points for participation. He does offer A LOT of extra credit and his discussions are outdoor and super hands on. We did a lot, good experience
Professor Stettner has a wide variety of knowledge about species from fish, plants, animals, etc. He takes the time to explain important concepts and is approachable by office hours or email if you have issues. If you are not the best at science or not a good student, there is more than enough extra credit to keep your grade in good standing.
I love Craig! His zoology class was really interesting and he's so adorable in a sweet nerdy way. Honestly he's my favorite teacher I've ever had! I just love his personality, however, His class was extremely hard for me. I ended up getting a C and they was a miracle. The tests where you had to identify species by their scientific names were horrid
Zoology was the best course I've taken so far across 3 different colleges. It wasn't difficult to pass at all, was extremely interesting & the classroom is loaded with specimens. Craig is an amazing professor and just a pleasant person to be around in general. Dress for the weather, as you should be prepared for outdoor excursions at any time!
Craig is such an awesome teacher. The content isnt easy to begin with but he makes it better! He cares 150% about his students that is for sure. Kind of nerdy but in the best way - take him you wont regret it!!!
Mr. Stettner is the best professor I've ever had! He knows what he's talking about and never reads from a powerpoint. During lectures he writes a lot of notes and diagrams on the board for you to copy. Lab exercises come straight from the textbook, and the information in the chapters is often on exams. 300ish points of EC available. Approachable
Craig took over my class midway through the semester and, honestly, saved mine and others grades. He breaks down the material really well and tests on that very material, not random stuff that wasn't discussed in class.
Craig is really awesome. Probably the best college professor I ever had. He is passionate about the environment and it shows during class. Don't let this fool you the class is really tricky but he gives you a TON of extra credit, making it almost impossible to not pass with a C or higher. The Lab exams are definitely hard tho.
He's hands down the best professor I've encountered at Harper. He gives you plenty of opportunities to raise your grade, is passionate about what he teaches and teaches beyond the classroom. LOVED his class and would recommend taking him if you have the chance to!
Craig was great! I really enjoyed his class and he gave so many opportunities for extra credit. Definitely recommend to take his class, although attendance isnt mandatory I would suggest not missing because he gives a lot of little points on assignments that you cant make up outside of class.
One of the few professors that still knows how to make a class entertaining. You can expect to be taught how to learn as much as what to learn, meaning you dont only sit around and listen to lectures but have opportunities to actually have fun in class such as going on nature walks. Very friendly and knowledgeable, we need more teachers like him
I took his class and it was fun. Even though we had to walk outside and get knee deep in water I felt that It was better than being in class all day. I don't think he liked me cause I slacked off. He gave me another chance to do extra credit and taught me on the weekend. He went the extra mile to teach people differently and give everyone a chance.
