Dr. Thulin is a very good teacher. He has very clear teaching methods. Extremely willing to clearly answer questions. He explains things in a way that's easy to understand. His tests are fair. And besides all of that, he's funny and entertaining to listen to. He makes the class interesting. By far one of UVSC's better professors.
i HATED this class. he was very hard to understand and would get side tracked cuz all his stupid jokes. which would be fine if they were related to chem and helped me study. his tests were hard too. make sure you can do both written problems and know the material. good luck!
this professor was one of the best! He taught very clearly, and he teaches for you! He doesnt care about anything, all he cares about in class is you! he wants you to do well. Compared to my last chemistry teacher, his exams are very easy! as long as you read the chapters and go to class you'll do well.
Craig Thulin (pronounced TOO-LEAN) is the best!!! He's hilarious and makes chemistry fun and understandable! I would go to class just to listen to how funny he can be. i definately recommend this class to everyone!
FYI - if you want to get a good grade in the class, play special attention to the power point slides ( it helps with the multiple choice questions on his tests ). The application questions are the hardest .
Dr. T is an awesome guy! He cares a lot about his students and that you actually learn the material. His tests can be difficult, but as long as you study (tons!!) and know the material you will do fine! He makes class entertaining and being in class everyday will help. I would definately recommend him!
Teacher blows...monkeys could write better tests. This is a teach yourself class, his humor is anything but funny(more of a distraction). If you have to take biochem wait until this guy is fired. Tip: if you want to do well on his tests use keywords and b.s., b.s., b.s.
i cant believe i paid to take this class. its for you if you like lame attempts at humor and long powerpoint presentations. tests were hard so if you want to do well study bigtime. thulin didnt explain things clearly in class so u learn what you read from the book. if you want to learn chem take it from someone else or buy a book and teach yourself
Wicked hard class but Dr. T is very interested in you understanding the material. He is one of my favorite professors I have had. He learns everyone's name and treats you with more respect than you probably deserve. If you go see him during office hours he will help you with anything you need. He makes a class that is potentially boring fun!
Dr. Thullin cares more for his students than any teacher I have had. He will help you whenever you need it and teaches unbelievably well. His tests are the hardest tests ever but it averages out because everyone struggles with them. He makes a class that is potentially the most boring class ever one of the most enjoyable.
He does a good job of presenting Chemistry in a way that is cunderstandable to the average person. But everying in lecture *will* be on the tests; the people complaining about him are probably the ones too lazy to actually attend class and pay attention. If you attend class and pay attention to lecture, you will do fine.
Dr. Thulin was the best professor I've ever had...he made chemistry very interesting and fun (which is kinda hard to do).I didn't like chemistry before I took this class but now I absolutely love it! He was very funny which helped you stay awake and engaged during class. His tests are hard though...you'll need to study hard! He was very helpful and
Dr. Thulin is awesome. Just study his notes and a little bit in the book and you'll do fine. He is pretty entertaining too. He's one of the first teachers I've had at UVSC that cares about his students, which is awesome. He's not super arrogant either.
He is an okay teacher but he can be hard to follow
He is really amazing teacher. Actually his class is really fun. He is fair to every students and he likes to help students. But, test would be hard.
any person that had a hard time with this class is an idiot. This class was cake. Dr. Thulin is money, anyone who has taken another chem class will know this. Take this class!!!
He helps explain the material on OUR level! He understands that we're human, and that we have things that come up! I highly recommend that you study for his tests. He gives practice tests that help a LOT! He wants you to succeed!
Dr Thulin has got me so interested in chemistry. He applies the things we learn in class to real life. He cares a lot about his students and is always available to help. His class is fun and easy to understand. If you study the past exams it helps a lot too. He is awesome!
Great teacher. He can be tough but that is because he really wants you to learn and understand, not just memorize some numbers for a test. Extremely helpful and wants to help you succeed. I would recommend him to anyone!
Never take his chemistry class! The average test score our class was a D+ and he didn't even curve the grade. He can never find time for you to help you out or even to talk about your grades.
I would just like to say don't take this teacher if you can help it. The quizes and HW wasn't that bad, but the tests are insane! In the beginning of the class he talks about how he works for you and not the other way around. After taking his class I don't really believe that. I would study the review sheet for hours and still fail the tests.
He is very unorganized, but claims to be. He is fair, but beware as he says not to use the textbook, but I would read it carefully. He thinks his lectures are clearer than they actually are, so go prepared.
He is the BEST chemistry teacher at UVU! Highly recommend. Tests are a piece of cake, just put some time in to study. I aced everyone. Quizzes are easy and he makes it easy to get an A. Really funny too. Admits he's a dork.
One of the few prof. that I can pay attention to for a whole hour without getting lost or bored. Clear, well thought out and deliberately spoken lectures. Just the right amount of humor to keep it interesting. About half of the homework assignments were useful. Test were about what they should be. Seems receptive to feedback. Very Good, recommended
Absolute stud. I loved his class. He was very helpfull, if you have a question just ask. I have never had a professor that cared more for his students. It also helps that he know anything and everything to do with BioChem
He is pretty funny, and admits he is kind of weird. His homework and quizes are pretty easy, but his test are SO hard!!! They are all short answer... no multiple choice. He does grade on a curve at the end of the semester though!:D This is a class you CAN'T miss a day, and you have to take really good notes, and study a ton, and hope for a miracle!
He makes the class difficult, but is an excellent teacher.
Dr. Thulin is the best teacher I have ever had in my entire life. I could listen to him all day long and not get bored. He cares about students. His tests are all essay but they aren't hard if you go to class, listen and take notes. I give him a 10 out of 10 with two thumbs up...way up!!! Awesome teacher.
What an absolute pleasure to have as a teacher. Dr. T knows his stuff very well and has the best sense of humour!!!!. Will always recommend as a teacher.
Great professor. Really focuses on concepts and wants students to understand. He uses weekly quizzes to prepare for tests which are 50/50 multiplechoice/shortanswer. I recommend him for sure! (a little weird.:)
very good teacher! highly recommend
The tests were very effective. He curves them at the end of the semester too. Very funny and an interesting class to attend!
great teacher &way funny that helped make chem interesting.I didn't mind coming to class. I would highly suggest going to class every time cause chem is a hard subject. Reading the chptrs help. Quizzes aren't too bad-use the book& notes! hw isn't bad. HIGHLY suggest go to the tutoring by BYU student! It saved me! It's a hard class but Dr. T is great
Dr."T"--a professor I will never forget--was ideal--teaches to challenge students, doesn't spoon-feed, put in max effort, you'll do well. You will learn to think in ways you never have before. I'd vote one of the top professors on campus. Thank you Dr. Thulin. You're awesome.
I only wish I could have taken more classes from him but I am graduating. One of the best profs I have had at UVU. Caring, thorough, funny and really helps prepare students for grad school. Thanks for being a great teacher and always beware that double edge sword! ; )
Dr. Thulin is such a hoot! He adds a great humor to the class, with the best analogies that make learning chemistry super easy. Great guy, great class--I definitely recommend him!
Dr. Thulin has been my favorite professor at UVU so far. He genuinely cares about students and their ability to learn. He hates cheating with a passion. I recommend his class to anyone.
Dr. T. was awesome. He is funny in class but still manages to stay on topic. His in class quizzes were easy, but his tests were a little hard. You don't have to ace the tests to still get an A. He gives one weekly homework assignment that takes maybe 30 minutes to do. He tested a lot on concepts and didn't make us memorize a lot of equations.
He tries to make you laugh more than teach but is super helpful when you go to his office. There are quizzes daily (easy) and homework weekly (a little tougher). The tests are brutal! Don't tell him what was wrong with his tests or cheat, he can be VERY passionate. Take very good notes, you'll need all the help you can get!
Dr Thulin is a phenomenal teacher. He explains things really well, and doesn't require you to know every minute detail. Oh and he's hilarious. Awesome class!!!
He's a really funny guy, always wearing a bow tie. He will help you if you're struggling but you have to make the effort to do your work. The tests were a little challenging if you know and study the material. I wasn't the best student when I took his class and I did alright. Just like any class, do all your work, study and your grade will reflect that.
Dr T is the best! He records lecture and puts them online. He's a very funny guy! Always willing to help outside of class no matter how long it takes. He knows everyone's names. I learned a ton in his class! His test are hard but doable. He is possibly the best science teacher I have ever had!
Dr T's Pharmacology class is awesome! Test and lectures are just like his 3600 class. If your getting into healthcare I would strongly recommend this class because it is a great prep class, and he makes it interesting, and fun to listen to. Dr T is the best teacher at UVU, take him if you get the chance!
Dr. T is the greatest teacher I have ever had.He really just wants his students to learn and he tries so hard to do this from building custom slides, to recording lectures to help study or his study guides that are amazing for reviewing for a test I also loved homework was a nice change of pace that would make you think about what you were learning
I absolutely loved him! Super basic tests, easy and helpful weekly homework, and daily quizzes that are only a few questions and half the time just told you what answer to pick.I was freaked out to take chem but after taking his class I really think I would take another chem class just for fun if he was the prof. And that's saying something.
Chemistry kicks my butt, I am doing ok in the class. No curve, and he has clicker quizes for attendence, 3 q's each class. He is really funny, and makes it a little more interesting for me. A little hard to work with if you have schedule conflicts for tests. 4 tests throughout the sem. homeworks once a week.
Thulin is a very fair professor. He gives you a study guide before each test. He will bold the stuff that is on the test so you know exactly what to focus on. The textbook is good to get. He records his lectures. Re-listening to them over and over again is CRUCIAL to doing well on his test.
He is extremely fair. Gives you study guides with what will be on the test. LISTEN to his recorded lectures. This is the key to do well in his class.
Dr T is great. Why can't all professors be like Dr T!? :) He genuinely wants all of his students to succeed. He records every lecture, has study guides, and sets clear expectations. His sense of humor keeps the class interesting. Attend class, clicker quizzes every day. One homework assignment a week and 4 tests.
great professor, you will not need to buy a book he provides notes and you can print them. study guide provided.
Dr. T is pretty funny and keeps class interesting most of the time. There are daily in class quizzes, but they aren't bad. He records his lectures so you can listen to them later if you need to. I went to the mentored study groups which helped. His tests aren't the easiest, but if you understand the material, you should do fine.
The best professor at UVU. I promise you will love going to class.
Dr T was a great professor. I loved going to class. He was funny, although some humor didn't work, but when a joke failed he recognized it. Daily in class quizes, which aren't that hard. He gives you practice tests from previous semesters that you can use to prepare for the up coming exam. Extremely helpful. I personally never had to use the book.
Best professor in the whole universe.
Dr. T is such a great teacher. I hate chemistry, but had to take it for my major. It ended up being my favorite class. I hate even considered changing my major to chemistry because of him. You have daily quizzes and homework each week, but they are doable. Tests were easy if you studied. Take his class- YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! I Promise.
Lecture didn't match tests. He is nice and funny, but the way he words things do not make much sense.
Took BioChem from Thulin. The class was much easier than I was expecting and after talking to graduate students it sounds like he does a great job covering the material that you would learn (metabolism pathways, not mechanisms). I loved Dr. T and felt like he was probably the most fair and understanding professor I've ever had at UVU.
Easily the best class you will have ever had thus far in your life.
Makes you want to be a student. Genuinely interested in your success.
He is a great teacher with a very funny sense of humor. The class is very interesting and a little easier than I expected. You don't ever use the book so don't bother buying/renting one. All information comes from slides which are presented in class. He also records all lectures and posts them as sound files on Canvas-very helpful. Great class.
Dr. Thulin is an amazing professor. He is very willing to help his students succeed. You don't ever use the book. He records his lectures and post them on cavas. He also posts all of his lecture slides. If you can take him for Bio Chem, do he is the best.
Wonderful teacher! I LOVED his class. He's one of the best professors I've had at UVU. He wants his students to succeed, and will do what ever he can to help you! The class was easier than I was expecting, but I am sure that was partly because of him. Great class, great teacher, learned a ton! I love Dr. Thulin so much! I very highly recommend him.
There are very few people that can express their love for their passion (science in this case) and for other people than Dr Thulin. I am grateful for the opportunity I have had to be taught and mentored by him.
Super helpful, exactly what you need for a tough class such as this one. Records his lectures so that they're available to be re-listened to again on your own time, THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN JUST SKIP CLASS! I changed my study habits half way through the semester and began replaying the lectures prior to exams and began doing soooooo much better.
I hate this subject, but Dr. T is SUCH a good teacher that despite my best efforts I learned so much... Take any class you can from him and you will love him and appreciate the subject more!
He's alright. He has a very dry sense of humor and all of his jokes are rehearsed. He makes his key from a few of the kids tests but he is still super nitpicky. He will take points off if you do not have the exact word(s) he was looking for. There is a bit of secondary work that saves you (100% if you do it). Listen to the lectures!!!!!
Dr. Thulin is seriously one of the best professors I have had throughout college. I am currently in my first year of medical school, and I can honestly say no class has helped me more so far in medical school than the Biochem I took from him at UVU. He makes you work hard for the grade you get, but he tells you EXACTLY what to expect if you LISTEN!
Had him for lab. Nice guy. Helpful. Would take classes from I'm in future
this guy is amazing. he is everything you want in a college teacher. it's a hard class but he is direct and clear. he records lectures and posts recordings online. he follows his powerpoints. i had to listen along to the lectures looking at the slides to study, 4 hours a week. i had to miss class often and still aced this HARD class. he is amazing.
Dr. Thulin was the best science professor I had during my undergraduate years. He teaches clearly, he provides you with enough material to understand the subject, and gives great feedback during office hours. He truly cares for your success! Frankly, I'd like to see him as Dean or Chair someday, he loves his students. Prepped me well for med school
Incredible lectures. Super fun guy as well.
My favorite professor I have had throughout college. He is one of the most intelligent men I have ever met. His lectures are prepared and everything he wants you to know, he will tell you in the most articulate way possible. He records his lectures which are great for studying. Tests are fair and he doesn't try and trick you. You will learn a lot.
A great professor. He is extremely punny during class, and has a lot of genuine enthusiasm for what he teaches.
He is really easy going & quirky, a really good guy, I had a little difficulty in his class because it revolves around 4 tests you take the semester. He also has 3 assignments due at the beginning of each week. You have to study a bit harder than usual. Doing all the assignments & being a good student won't cut it, be SMART in the material.
He records the sounds of his classes. He posts them to canvas for the entire class to listen to. Really cares for his students and if you do the assignments you will get a good grade. I would take any class from him. Great professor.
He was always willing to offer help outside of class if needed. All his lectures were recorded and uploaded onto Canvas along with his slideshow presentations. He always takes time to answer a lot of questions in class and his test reviews were helpful.
Dr. T is an amazing and quirky professor! He records his in-class lectures and uploads the corresponding PowerPoints to Canvas, which is a huge help! I liked printing out the PowerPoint before class to take notes on and then typing up those notes afterwards. The test questions are a bit strange, but he has previous tests on Canvas for studying!
Out of 62 professors I've had (earning 2nd BA), Dr T is one of the absolute best! He implements many techniques into his teaching and assignments that are proven to help students learn efficiently and permanently, which helps set you up for success w/ higher courses. He has a true passion for teaching, and the resources he provides are phenomenal!
I've taken Dr. T for Biochem I and II and will be taking pharmacology from him too. He's seriously a great teacher. He's quirky and genuine. The class has some pretty flexible assignment dates and he records lectures. He treats you like professional students. Pretty tough but gives you everything you need to succeed. A's in both; highly recommend.
Dr. Thulin is an exceedingly good professor. He is among the best lecturers I've ever had and he is eager to help his students succeed. His class is not easy but it is very fair. Put in the time and you will do well. Cannot recommend enough, especially if you will be taking the mcat soon.
He's the best. I learned a ton, especially for taking the DAT. If your taking any pre-med exam, take Dr. T. He is extremely fair, yet challenges you to be a better student. I would take any class from him.
Not sure if it's worth sharing my rating as it should already be clear that he is one of the best you will ever have. His class is set up exceptionally well, and it is taught very efficiently. I learned an overwhelming amount about the subject, but also about how to learn better. He is totally fair, and you can't go wrong taking him for any course!
Great guy! He's not easy but you'll more than you can imagine. It's totally worth it and he's mastered teaching. He has knack for teaching difficult to understand information. I highly recommend going to class. Print out the slides in advance and take notes on them while listening to the recordings. Also, he treats his students like professionals.
Like most others have said, Dr. Thulin is one of the best professors you'll every have. His students are his #1 priority, and it shows in how he approaches teaching. He's clear about what he wants you to know and willing to help you understand when things are unclear. Use the provided past exams to help study for his tests. Form a study group.
Every instructor hired by UVU should have to sit in one of Dr. Thulin's lectures. He makes his criteria crystal clear, is structured, and thorough. This class is difficult, but there is no reason you can't make an A in this class. He explains things well and uses real world analogies to make concepts solid.
Each class is just a lecture and though he is very clear about what we need to know, his tangents take up a lot of time and the material is rushed. Exams are difficult; although he starts the semester by saying he doesn't like memorization to pass exams, that's exactly what you need to do. He's ok, but very frustrating.
I wasn't looking forward to chemistry, but I was pleasantly surprised with this course. Dr. Thulin makes really great slides to study from, and you just have a couple SUPER easy things to turn in each week along with online homework. The homework is exactly what's on the test. I hardly ever went to class because he records and posts lectures.
In this class, the homework is so easy. Every week you make up 5 quiz questions, have a quick online discussion, and a homework regarding the material which he gives 100% on even if you get every question wrong. The key to getting an A in this class is understanding the material and getting good grades on the exams. TAKE HIM.
Dr T records in class lectures so you can listen to them later. Every week for homework you make up 5 quiz questions, do 1 discussion, and 25 questions of online homework. To do well you need to understand the material, do the homework and get good grades on the 4 exams and 1 final. Go to SI sessions, they really help. Take him you won't regret it!
If you're not the best at chemistry this is the professor for you! I've always struggled with chem and he makes the material so clear and understandable. He relates this class to health sciences as much as he can which is awesome. Also all class lectures are recorded and put up in files with lecture slides which makes reviewing easier.
Dr. T is one of the best professors I have had. It is easy to pass the class but you have to work hard for an A. He is very specific in class about what he is going to test on, so the written response questions are graded toughly sometimes. You will learn more from this class than any other.
Thulin is a good professor but I was often frustrated by his exams. He would make test questions from specific sentences he had said once in a lecture and then never mentioned again. This being said, he records and posts his lectures so LISTEN TO THEM AGAIN BEFORE EXAMS. Doing this and attending the SI sessions is what got me through the class.
Dr. Thulin has some of the dryest humor and is hilarious. I thoroughly enjoy his class and will be taking his Biochem 2 class as well. I can highly recommend him. An A requires work, however, it is attainable if you want it. Even taking his live streaming class was enjoyable! He really does care about your success. SUPER willing to help, if you ask
He is my favorite teacher!! He is very funny and he will not try to trick you on the exams. He is also very good and efficient when it comes to online, the weekly assignments are not hard, don't take long, and they are not busy work. He will tell you what you do and do not need to know on the exam. Loved this teacher!
Whenever a questions asked in class, he'll say "That's specified in the homework" doesn't answer questions. Makes things more complicated than it had to be; ended up watching a lot of youtube vids. No extra credits given. You watch pre recorded videos, do live stream, but he basically repeats everything from videos. Class time is a waste of time.
Dr. Thulin is such a good professor! I learned so much, but had to work & study hard for my grade. He is very clear on what is due and when, he willingly answers questions in class, by email or w/ an appointment, and he sticks to his word. He is very kind, but do not expect extra credit. The midterms and final exam make up 60% of your final grade.
Dr. Thulin is a good professor, but it is a really tough course. I was studying for this class more than any of my others. The tests make up a large portion of your grade and they aren't easy tests. No extra credit is offered-including any sort of curves. He's a really nice guy, but the tests in my opinion are too hard.
He is super helpful and understanding. easily approachable, but yes definitely graded his tests pretty hard. The schools tutoring recourses helped me a lot with this class. Chemistry in general is going to be hard so take it from him!
I thought I was good at chemistry till this class. Dr. T is not the best teacher. The only things that really helped me were the Sapling assignments and my fiancé teaching me literally everything. We had a ton of stuff due daily & weekly and I still felt myself scrambling before tests. His tests are extremely hard. I didn't really learn much.
Dr. T was my favorite teacher this semester by far! He was very kind and respectful during class and would always encourage us to ask questions so he could help. He is hilarious as well and made so many jokes that lightened up the mood. He does have very difficult exams and the study guides arent so helpful. But he was great!
I absolutely LOVE Dr. T. You can tell he really cares about the individual student and takes pride in his work. I have always hated chemistry, but Dr. T made the class enjoyable. He does not provide extra credit, but has enough assignments that exams won't completely break your grade. I cannot say enough good things about this professor.
Dr. T is a really fun prof but not the most helpful. You watch lectures before class and answer DCQ's and then in class you ask questions on things you don't understand. Your weekly assignments were Sapling, making quiz questions and a discussion. Beware he doesn't offer any extra credit or any way to gain extra points so do well on exams and hw.
yikes. There is so much busy work. You will have three weekly assignments as well as a quiz before each class. The class is not a hybrid or online class, but you have to watch the lecture videos before coming to class which takes hours. He's a funny dude but there is way too much for just a 3 credit class. Should be labeled as hybrid online IMO.
Biochem is a hard class but if you need to learn biochem for the DAT or MCAT this is your guy. I bombed the first exam but was able to work my way back up by meeting with him one on one before exams to review and was able to get in the 90% range for the rest of the exams. The material truly isn't that hard to grasp but it takes time.
Very caring and funny professor. This was my second go around on chemistry and to be honest I was a little nervous about it but this professor made it so much easier to understand.
Dr. T is very passionate about Chemistry. You will have 3 weekly assignments. His tests are super difficult and the study guides don't really help. Be prepared to listen in class and also spend some time outside of class studying. Before every test I was finding YouTube videos on almost everything to try and learn the topics better.
He is an awesome guy but he doesn't get that we have no idea what he's talking about. He tends to speed through the material before we can figure out what questions to ask. I studied for weeks and got the same grades if I hadn't studied at all. His wording on tests is really difficult to understand considering it is already a tough subject.
One HUGE tip I have for anyone taking this class is to go under files in canvas and check through the past exams. Reading through these past exams is what LITERALLY helped me pass the class. The exams we had this year were almost IDENTICAL to the past exams so if you go through and look at the past keys as well you should be ok and be able to pass.
BIOL 3620: Horrible, poorly-worded tests. Way too many "all of the above" and "none of the above" answer choices. Lots of busy work. You have these "real-life-ation" assignments that are pretty worthless and you have to make your own quiz questions as well, every week. He is a nice guy, but I would never consider taking a class from him again.
This class has been invaluable to helping me understand the biology MCAT chapters. His material has helped in every MCAT bio chapter so far. Super accessible outside of class and meeting with him to go over my study guide is what made me do so well. Got ~95% on each exam from meeting with him a 60% on the one I didn't. It makes a difference.
Dr T was the best! He was very caring and compassionate. A very nice good guy. He was very fair with grades and tests. He would give back some points on most exams. He makes sure you will succeed and answers all questions thoughtfully. Definitely take chem from him!!!!
I've had Chem professors before. He's by far the best, very accommodating, a strong desire for students to understand the material so they'll do well in other classes that this is a prerequisite. Doesn't require memorization of unimportant info, quick to communicate back, and clear on how to get an A. Quizzes are a good representation of Exams.
Dr. T is a great teacher who really just wants you to learn. He spends a ton of time answering questions and is always willing to spend time in and out of class to help people understand the lessons. The class is difficult, but chemistry is a struggle for me anyway. You definitely need to study outside of class to do well on exams but Dr T is great
Dr. Thulin was absolutely fabulous and I would take him for as many classes as possible! I was terrified about taking chemistry, and while at times the subject can be hard to understand, Dr. Thulin made EVERY effort to ensure success for those willing to work for it. He was very good at answering questions and helping you succeed!
I loved Dr. Thulin's class! He made every effort to ensure that he could answer any and all questions you had! He truly cared about you understanding the material and helping you to succeed! He made class entertaining and was extremely helpful! I would take any and all classes possible through him for my degree!
He's a great professor and makes sure you actually learn relevant things throughout the lectures! Always make sure to watch the lectures; he makes them fun with his humor and always answers questions. Overall, I learned a lot from this class and had a great time doing so :)
I thoroughly enjoyed biochem and the content covered, but I feel that the exams are very directed at guessing whats in the professors head. I really enjoyed the lectures and the way the class was taught. I felt that the tests were poorly written and felt that it didn't accurately convey my knowledge.
I have a lot of respect for this profesor. He truly cares about his students and he makes his lectures entertaining, very clear. and funny. I have taken other science classes at UVU and I really appreciated his ability to teach it in simpler terms. He also was never afraid to slow down and go back if his students didn't understand anything.
Dr. T was a very hard professor. His lectures do not line up with what the quizzes and tests are like. He doesn't even have only a select few slides of where you can actually take notes. Most of the time you are just having to try and catch what he is telling the class in his own words and write that down. Tests and quizzes are very difficult.
Dr Thulin is an AMAZING professor. His lectures are so broken down and simplified and he loves what he teaches! During his lectures he will say what will and will not be on the exam. He never tries to trick anyone with questions either, they are very straight forward. His class isn't easy, but that is more because of the subject than the professor.
I would not take from this professor again, just because his lectures were very hard to follow and it was a very hard environment for me to learn in.
Biochem is a hard class, but Dr. Thulin gives you plenty of resources. He has old tests and every multiple choice question he's ever put on a test available with the keys for review. Tests are based on lecture material and he gives out detailed study guides before each exam that tell you how much each topic is emphasized. 10/10 would take again.
I have taken 3 classes from Dr. T and have loved all of them. (Biochem 1 + 2 and Proteomics) The material he teaches is hard but if you listen and review his lectures you will get a good grade on the tests. There isn't a lot of work in the class so you can focus on studying the material. He is very passionate about what he teaches!
He did not make sense throughout his lectures. I struggled a lot in this class and had to rely on the TA which she taught better than he did. He also told us that we would mostly fail the class or get a grade where we wouldn't be able to get into our programs. The quizzes which were from the homework were very difficult and he never went over them.
Wonderful teacher! Very clear on what is expected for the tests- all the material is from the lectures. Assignments out of class are doable and interesting. Loved taking Biochem from Dr T!
Super knowledgeable, passionate about what he teaches, and committed to helping students succeed. He makes complex topics understandable. Some of the classes he teaches are going to be hard no matter who you take them from, but he makes them interesting and manageable.
You cannot go wrong with Dr T. If you need to take biochem for the MCAT, he is your guy. He is super personable and doesn't give you hardly any homework. He lets you choose how to use your time to get ready for his exams. I have seen some people complain about his exams, but I scored a high A on all of them. Study and you will be fine! Take him.
Dr. T's class is poorly structured. He randomly took attendance 3 times during the semester? In addition to this, his tests have an online, AND a written portion. Both parts of the test include different concepts, but are given on the same day. He tends to ramble when he lectures, I always felt severely underprepared for tests because of this.
Dr. Thulin is the most kind, caring professor I have ever had. He is brilliant and passionate about chemistry and takes the time to help his students if they go to his tutoring hour and answers questions in class and uses fun demonstrations. Dr. Thulin, if you read this I hope you know how awesome you are!
The professor was super funny and lectures were great. Very test heavy. I got 100% on all my quizzes and homework assignments but based off of 3 different exam scores it lowered me to a C. Our TAs were no help at all. If you don't understand the material in class you are on your own, he does not answer questions. He is very entertaining and nice.
Professor Thulin's classes are challenging, but engaging. He breaks down concepts well, though his teaching style can be hit-or-miss. Using tools like Unstuck study alongside the course materials helped me stay on top of the material.
I thought he was great. Normally, I don't like chemistry and didn't see how it applied to my major, but he made a point of connecting the health sciences to chemistry and helped me see why it is important. He is very kind and willing to help you do well in class. He made chemistry understandable and his passion for it is contagious.
Professor Thulin cares about what he teaches and strives to help students understand and care for it too. His class is challenging, partially because it's chemistry. Most of it is lecture. Sometimes he would put things into tests that weren't in the lecture material. He is an incredibly caring person and wants his students to succeed.
I'm unsure why he has so many good reviews. He doesn't offer any extra credit, and for each exam, there is an in-person written part and a Canvas exam based on the homework. When a question was asked, I felt like he made me feel dumb and sometimes didn't even answer it. He only teaches from the slide show and his notes so it can be hard to follow.
He is a nice guy, but his lectures are so hard to follow along with. He thinks extra credit is unfair(therefore he provides none). Written tests AND proctorio which the concepts on the test are not clear. He tends to ramble in class and isn't very good at answering questions. The final average was a 52% which says a lot about the teacher.
Dr. T is a good person, just not a good professor. He is constantly going off on tangents even though class is only 50 minutes. The in person tests were so confusing and most of the time had absolutely nothing to do with what we were learning in class. He is an extremely harsh grader and it's really tough concepts to learn that he doesn't explain.
I would not recommend taking chemistry with this professor. He is hard to follow during lectures, doesn't offer any extra credit or corrections, and the exams are very difficult. He doesn't understand that chemistry is a tough subject and makes you feel dumb for asking questions. I am usually an A student and I barley got a B- in this class.
This is the best professor I have had. He taught in a way that didn't make you feel stupid and he also didn't expect you to already know the material. I also love the outline of his class and the homework was very helpful and simple.
As long as you put in effort, Craig will make sure that you get what you need to succeed. He's super caring, accessible, silly, and easy-going. I was able to get through the course without looking at the textbook (aside from a single homework question that referenced it). He makes lectures and expectations as clear as possible.
If you want an in-person classroom experience (mildly tangential lectures, encouragement to work with others, Teams meetings), he's your guy. Less intense than other professors in some ways, more intense in other ways. ~20 lecture videos (most 2-8 minutes long) per week. Use previous exam keys and the study guide he gives you to prep for exams.
His class feels nearly impossible to pass. Our class grade average is a C+. Dr. T's grading is super harsh and he's not lenient at all; no extra credit is given and you have no opportunities to improve your grade outside of the exams. A lot of the content on the in-person and online exams don't pertain to anything we talk about in class.
Dr. Thulin is an excellent, happy, and responsive teacher. He loves it when people ask questions, and it makes the class more personal. This is one of those classes that you get out of it what you put in. He has many resources to re-watch the lectures, and he also has study guides. I highly recommend him as a teacher as long as you're committed.
Dr. Thulin is very knowledgeable, passionate and a great professor. However, he isn't the best at explaining things and answering questions. He does after-class tutoring hours that are invaluable, that's where I understood the most because I could ask specific questions. His study guides honestly suck, it's just the main ideas. He doesn't do EC!
The only reason I succeeded in this class is because I had already taken another chemistry course. He is a really nice teacher though and is very willing to help if you have questions. If you don't understand what is going on during the lectures you are going to struggle.
Dr. T is an awesome teacher. I wish most professors taught the way he does. The only downside to him is his exams. You'll learn the material very well, but he is super vague, or the way he formulates his questions on exams is incredibly confusing compared to the way he teaches. Many students get lower grades because the grade is exam-based.
Dr. T is a great and funny person, but his lectures were super hard to follow because sometimes he would just ramble about random things. His written tests were hard to understand, and I felt like they weren't what we had learned from lecture. He also gives out no extra credit, and he takes attendance three times during the semester.
STUDY! You can't coast in this class. Knowing what to study can be tricky; if you know someone who took his class, talk with them. But you really do earn your grade by effort or lack thereof. No extra credit, no rounding. Do you homework. Use the tutoring lab. Ask questions. You'll be fine.
