A brilliant and attractive man, Tuerk is known for his loud, infectious laugh and his sometimes impossible graphic tests.

Tuerk is a great teacher!
Great professor! Definately have to know the material, but it isn't impossible to pass his classes.
Dr. Tuerk has an answer for every question. I learned so much from his classes, and had fun. He was my favorite teacher at MSU. I could listen to him talk about anything.
Don't take this class if you are an Enviro. Sci. major! Only take this class if you have had genetics and other upper level bio. classes. Tuerk is a good person, but a real hard ass for a teacher
Super smart. Invented a process to help make cancer medications.
Hardest professor at MSU. DO NOT take this guy.
One of the easier upper level Biol's. Curves tests, and tells you what half of the test will be before you take it.
Tuerk is a great teacher, with a wacked since a humor, but keeps it fun. He is always there for help
He has a great teaching strategy. The semster I took this class it was my hardest and the only class I was doing bad in. But it was my favoirte because he made it fun! I didn't fail this course because he gave extra credit for class participation, if u show him u are trying he won't fail you.
Dr. Tuerk is a terrific teacher. His classes may be difficult but I promise you won't leave on without having a good nderstanding of the material. He is very helful and is truly a really sweet person. I would suggest taking him for any class he may offer. Maybe he is an aquired taste, but if you want to take the best for your major, he's the guy.
Tuerk is a great teacher, even though the class is fairly difficult. His wacky sense of humor is hilarious...he will definitely keep your attention. I would reccommend him for any biology course.
AWESOME TEACHER! take his class. as long as you pay attention in class you will be fine. you must put effort in and study like mad for the tests, but he is probably one of the best if not the best teacher i have had. i think i am going to take biochem just because he teaches it. go to the review sessions even if you don't think you need it.
Very very hard! I do recommend him though because I learned everything that I needed to know! Study study study if you have him and know your diagrams!!!!! You will walk away with a lot of knowledge!
have Multiple level skills in Math,Chemistry, Biology, and Anatomy. His exams are abstract, and require the inner workings of a chimp, and Genius to answer the simplest of questions. How a coke can can be a DNA molecule is beyond me. If sign up for his class, bring a syringe of pentathol on exam day. Goto med school b4 his biol 171. Still fail.
He is very very hard. Be prepared to study...quiz every day...be sure to keep them, they make up the exam...he is a great teacher you really learn the material and puts it in a way that is understandable
A very hard teacher but very smart. Probably the smartest guy at MSU. His tests and quizzes are more like mind games. You spend half your time trying to figure out where the answers are, and what he's really asking and I often times left class with a headache. I reckon he's a good teacher though, I didn't do that well mainly because of his tests.
Like others said, hes a very smart guy. However he moves to fast and make you feel stupid when asking questions sometimes. Key to the class is keeping all your quizes and studying them for the exam because the exam is 90% quizes
Difficult to follow sometimes. Gives quizes every class and exams are always on Mon. which is good because you have all weekend to study, not that it will help. Study the quizes, but he has a tendency to do something completely different on the exam. Try your best and if you don't understand something go and ask him about it. Lab is crazy hard!
Tuerk is horrible! He's all set in life and if you don't walk through the door knowing everything already you are doomed. He could care less. Review sessions are a waste because he won't answer your questions anyway. If you take his class be prepared to repeat it. He is a learning experience, just not a biological one. Take someone else.
Tuerk is a funny, entertaining, and a great teacher. He will make you work for your grade, without a question. It's silly to say that his class is impossible; if you want to be a Biology major, get over it - it's all going to be hard work, not a cakewalk.
I think he's a great teacher. Having the weekly quizzes help on the exam.
smartest teacher i've ever had
Dr. Tuerk is seriously the best biology professor on campus! He explains everything very well and is more than willing to help you outside of class! I can't wait to take him again for biochem. As long as you're willing to study and pay attention in class, you will do great in this class
Awesome Professor Challenging but very helpful and knowledgeable
He is a great professor! He talks fast and you have to pay attention to keep up. The daily quizzes are easy points and so are the notecards so you have to come to class but he really is the best biology teacher I think there is at Morehead!
He is very knowledgable. He uses alot of visual aides on powerpoint slides. He does talk fast and use specific terminology, so be prepared. A tape recorded will probably help in this class. In lab he is always willing to help and explain things, if you don't understand. Overall, I would say he is a good teacher.
Very helpful outside of class!
This class can be very frustrating with a daily quiz and Tuerk's fast paced teaching style (you may find yourself on the verge of tears!!). But overall he does without a doubt know what he is talking about, will give help where it is asked for, and will provide you with a greater understanding of biology (which is the point, right?)
Very good instructor, extremely intelligent. Challenging at times but ask questions. Great Class!!
He is a GREAT teacher. He will make you understand
Tuerk is a wonderful biology professor. He knows his stuff and moves quickly, which is understandable with the amount of material needed to cover in such a short time. You need to pay attention and attend class to pass, but it's not too hard if you do that. Tuerk is a great teacher and i'd recommend him to anyone.
I loved Tuerk as a professor but the content of this class is rough. He talks really fast. I also got confused when he would say things and then tell us that we didn't need to know it. He was also misleading on the daily quizes.
This man is an absolute genius, he puts an incredible amount of effort into lectures and class presentations. He reviews prior material daily, and has online notes with diagrams appearing exactly as they do on quizzes and exams. He goes out of his way to be helpful. Great Class!!!
The class is hard to begin with, but Tuerk makes it harder somehow. He presents far too much and even tells you that you don't need to know everything. So it's really confusing as to what you actually need. Daily quizzes...but they're misleading as to what's going to be on the exam. Very helpful outside of class though.
Love this man. He moves quickly through material, but makes it fun and interesting. WOuld definitely recommend. It's a bonus that he's a hottie!
Dr. Tuerk is a wonderful teacher. He moves quickly through the material and you have to keep up, but it all makes sense. I have had Dr. Tuerk for Bio 171 and Bio 301 and have enjoyed both classes. Recording his lectures and listening to them again is one of the best study aids. Reading the textbook won't help as much as reading his notes.
great teacher
Dr. Tuerk is such a great teacher!!! I hate him for biochemistry and I learned so much! His quizzes are so helpful in learning the material.. attendance isn't mandatory, but again, if you miss class, you will miss a quiz. Great professor!
the best teacher ever, i took him for human physiology, after having this class i chage my major to biology. his classes are hard but he makes them easier with the quizes and note cards if you go to class there is no reason why you shouldn't get at least a B agian he is the best!!!
I wished someone would had recommended him years ago when i was a freshman! i love him....bio isnt easy and sometimes hard to retain but he knows what he is doing and he is there to teach not to knock ya out or to make it harder.the quizzes are to help you...yes u have them everyday.but that is part of his teaching strag.really he is the BEST @ MSU
Great professor. I'm a junior and he is the best professor I have had at MSU. I actually learn stuff in his class instead of just memorizing notes.
I would definitely recommend him. He puts so much effort into his lectures and quizzes. He does go very fast through the slides and through the book, but as long as you pay attention you will be fine. He's my favorite at MSU so far, and I have learned more in his class than any other.
Great Professor! Had him for Bio 171 prior to taking Bio 235. I would recommend getting a tape recorder if you are not a fast note taker. He speaks really fast and moves through the material quick. Review DAILY! and if you dont understand something ask in class or go to his office. He's really helpful! Loved the class!
Best Biology professor at Morehead State! Dr. Tuerk difinitely knows what he is talking about in class. I would recommend him to anyone taking Anatomy. The class and exams are tough but he is a very good teacher, go to class everyday and you will do fine. Really LOVED this class.
Best porfessor ever, was not all that interested in biology before i had his class now it is my world even change my major.
Excellent teacher. Funny, friendly, and great at explaining the material. By the second week of class, he had everyone's name memorized. I love him to death. So much, in fact, I may take one of his classes as an elective.
Had him for Bio 171, amazing teacher. Class is hard but he is very helpful. Also had him as an advisor very helpful. One of the best professors at morehead.
tough, but nice, would take again. recommend
I love the way he teaches. He incorporates questions in his lectures that he repeats several times so you can understand and remember the material. if you answer the question you are rewarded notecards. you have a quiz every day but these help a lot for the test. his tests are hard but if you study the quizzes and figures you should do fine
Most intelligent man I have ever met! Such a good professor. Granted, you have to put in the work, but he is so helpful.
Hard, great teacher
Dr. Tuerk is a great man and fun to have in class, but I was not very good at interpreting what he was teaching. The class is fast-paced and the exams are basically the quizzes/pictures.
Dr. Tuerk is the most intelligent man I've met. He is excellent in the broad field of biology. He is super nice to students, very helpful, and does anything to help his students. By far my favorite professor I've had.
Amazing professor! I had Dr. Tuerk in biochemistry and I love his teaching style. He interacts with students rather than simply lecturing. He covers a lot, so you have to put in your fair share of work, but thats why we're in college! He wrote my recommendation letter for pharmacy school and is such a nice guy! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!
Amazing professor. Very knowledgeable, he even makes his own diagrams to better explain things. It's extremely obvious that he cares about students. Quizzes every day and awards quiz points for going to review session or answering questions in class. He even learned everyone's name (over 60) in a week or two.
I did not learn well from his teaching style personally but many people did. You have to study for the quizzes on your own, they are most often not what he covers in class.
Dr. Teurk is an amazing guy, and he KNOWS his biology. But he's teaching style is very unique and I personally found it difficult to understand. You must put in the effort though and if you really try it is very easy get help, he makes sure of that. AS LONG AS YOU TRY!
Tuerk is a flat out baller, I am taking for 171 and he is a great professor. He really knows what he is talking about and helps students when they don't understand. You do have to put in work, but an A is very very manageable.
Tuerk is a very easy going guy, but his lecture is hard. He goes over so much criteria in one lecture that it is overwhelming. There are so many things to study for every exam you end up always having things on the exam you've never even seen. I tried very hard in his class and still struggled. You also have a quiz EVERY SINGLE CLASS.
Knows his stuff EXTREMELY well. Class lectures are pretty fast-paced and cover a lot but his daily study sessions are very helpful. Exams usually cover exactly what is talked about in class.
Tuerk is a good professor, I had him for lecture and found it very easy to keep up with content. It is pretty important to be in class because there is a lot covered and there is a quiz almost every class meeting. Also, he offers review session EVERY MORNING at 8 a.m.!! Overall a great professor, would take again.
Dr. Tuerk is by far my favorite professor I've ever had. I also had him for 171. He is the most intelligent man I've ever met and truly knows biology and chemistry. You will learn more in his class than any other biology course you will take. His lectures clear up a lot of things the book can't. Very funny and very personable. He is a must take.
Dr. Tuerk is basically a genius and will teach you so much. You absolutely must go to class and take notes because he doesn't teach from the book and his powerpoints won't make sense without context. But he's always willing to help outside of class and offers participation points. Tests aren't difficult if you know your stuff! Great professor.
Dr. Tuerk is a must take for 171 if you want to know your stuff and retain information needed for BIO-Chem he is definitely the one to take. Very funny professor who is will to help you in and outside of class. Go to class and study his powerpoints for quizzes and exams and you'll do great!
Tuerk is the man! He's the go-to guy if you want to know your stuff and succeed in future biology courses. He hits BioChem hard. Participation is crucial. Quizzes every class meeting, but if you study for them, they really help out on the exams. If you're serious about BioMed, take Tuerk. If you're not, don't take 171.
Dr. Tuerk is the best professor I've ever had. If you have the chance, take him. He makes you work for a good grade but he really does want you to do well. Everyday he holds review/study sessions in the morning. That really helped me. He truly cares about his students and wants success for everyone.
He drifts off the end of his sentences and speaks quietly. He is very smart (too smart to teach). He changes topics quickly and leaves many students knowing little details about something but not the general idea of what is going on and where it's going on at. He does not explain things well. His class is set up to boost your grade, though.
Dr. Tuerk is my favorite professor at Morehead. He is extremely helpful and easy to listen to. He is probably the smartest teacher in the biology department. I loved his 171 class!
Dr. Tuerk is an amazing professor. Participation is important in this class because it can count as a test grade. If you don't want to participate, then you can use your exam average for the grade. The lab is super chill. Be sure to study the quizzes and figures for the exams, and you should be good. Good luck!
Dr. Tuerk is my favorite professor at Morehead, hands down. He knows so much about Biology but is able to bring it to a level accessible to all students. He works hard for you, he makes his own figures to make difficult material more understandable. He is very fair about all of his classes and grades. If you put in the time it'll all come together
Daily quizzes are a blessing in this class because it helps you understand the content so much better. You get bonus points for participation, and every lecture gets put on blackboard.
This man is amazing. He cares about everyone. Learns EVERYONES names. Says hello to you in the hallways. Lab with him is great. Very lenient & lets you out early. Gets stuff done quickly & efficiently. I was having a bad day once & he told me that he "admires my intelligence". This man made biology not so unbearable. Exams are tough, go to review.
He is the best teacher in lappin! He is very smart, clear on what he wants you to study and is always around to help if you have any questions. He remembers EVERYONES name after the first day of class. pay attn, take notes, earn participation points, ask questions, and you will succeed! I recommend him for any class he is willing to teach.
There is a quiz every day in the class but he gives participation points for asking and answering questions. He will help you any time you need.
For his biochemistry class, the class is based off of daily quizzes that are then tested over on exams in conjunction with a few of the lab topics (must be taken together). You could make due with memorizing the quizzes though he gives you incentive to go the extra-mile and learn the material he lectures about, which I encourage (extra-credit).
You have to go to class to get credit for the daily clicker quizzes. The best part of his class is that he gives out bonus cards if you answer (or ask) questions in lecture. He encourages you to understand the material on a deeper level than just memorization. Also, of you go to reveiw session you are sure to get tons of bonus cards.
He honestly cares about each and every student
He really knows his stuff. Must take for Bio 171. Extra credit for answering questions in class. Daily quizzes that make up the exams. Genuinely a good guy.
Dr. Tuerk was a great professor!! I kinda struggled in it, but he was a great professor. Would take him again! and I have to!
Dr. Tuerk has become one of my favorite biology professors on campus. I had always heard he was amazing, but you never truly know till you have him for a class. He is extremely intelligent and his exams (while averagely difficult) are very fair. When studying for his exams, pay close attention to his daily quizzes, and you'll be fine.
If you look over his daily quizzes before you take them, and review them again before his exams. He is an incredible person who has lived a full life, but he is still a good and caring person. He is very intelligent, and sometimes when he goes in depth it is hard to understand, but he cares enough to answer any questions you may have.
He is great ! He made the class easy, just bay attention and study. His exams are not hard.
Dr. Tuerk is the best Biology professor I have EVER had. Prepare to work your butt off and know the content exactly how he does. Exams are a little like quizzes but you have to know your stuff. EXTREMELY caring and would do anything to help. He even has review sessions twice a week on his own time.
Dr. Tuerk is my favorite professor I've had at Morehead!!! He is so so passionate and knowledgeable about what he's teaching and will not hesitate to help any students. He genuinely cares for every person in his class! Make sure to study the daily quizzes and earn bonus participation flashcards to earn a good grade in his class. Great lab prof too!
Tuerk is very kind and truly wants all of his students to succeed. Participation in class will help your grade a lot. Sometimes he can go over your head and get confusing but he is always willing to answer questions during lecture. My favorite professor yet.
Tuerk is very knowledgeable, but his classes are extremely lecture-heavy, and he moves very quickly. Would not recommend if you have no knowledge of Biology, I had to drop his class because I couldnt keep up. The tests are difficult, and his lectures can be hard to follow at times. Lots of extra credit, though! Pay attention if you want to pass.
He is such an awesome professor. He goes through quickly on the lectures, but he always makes time for his students. extremely accessible, if you participate in class you will do well. His exams are decently difficult, but if you pay attention you are fine. He has extra credit cards when you answer questions. Also has reviews every week! best guy!
This man is the most influential person I've ever met. He is a complete genius that lives everyday to share that knowledge with his students. He truly cares about every student and makes an effort to get to know them personally and help them with anything they need. Put in the effort and you will do great!
Professor Tuerk is very knowledgeable. However he is not for everyone. He is a very smart man but isnt the best at relaying that to his students. His lectures are very visual based and if you are not a visual learner you will struggle. He truly wants to see you succeed, he just doesnt have a uniform way for everyone to.
Study the practice quizzes and quizzes and you will do great on the exams. He will drop your lowest exam grade. He is a very smart person sometimes the way he explains things can be confusing but it will eventually click.
Dr. Tuerk was a professor I was genuinely excited to have and he did not let me down. His lectures are dynamic and very interesting, and he always interjects with funny exclamations and mnemonics. He has a quiz at the beginning of every class, but as long as you study, they're no big deal. Tuerk is amazing and you should definitely take him!
Hes very understanding
He is a very great and funny professor. However, he tends to lean into the more biochemistry part instead of the actual biology. Don't worry, this biochemistry will help you in the future if you intend to be in the med field. His class will make you seem smarter than other classes, but lot of hard work. Don't get 60's on the exams like some people.
Extremely intelligent man, sometimes too intelligent for us. At first, his lectures will make absolutely no sense, but if you go to his weekly review sessions and ask him to explain further in depth, he will eventually put it in understandable words. His lecture is just in slides, mostly diagrams he created, so being a visual learner really helps.
If your goal is to learn biochemistry, Tuerk is the man. You may sit in class completely confused but it all starts clicking eventually, especially with just a little studying. I got a high A and didnt have to work that hard for it.
Tuerk is extremely intelligent and a nice person. You will have absolutely no clue what he is lecturing about for the entire semester, but if you study his practice quizzes well and know what he specifically tells you to know, you will score well on his exams. He is personable and gets to know each of his students by name.
The Biology needs more professors like this one! I can't say enough about him. I am currently in his class and wanted to hop on here and say something nice about him. He knew all of our names within less than two weeks. He wants his students to do well and gives MANY opportunities for extra credit. Great man!
Dr. Tuerk has been one of my favorite professors in my whole college experience yet. Honestly, you wont know much he is talking about during his lectures but by asking, he will go more in depth if needed. He is SO funny, intelligent, and an extremely interesting fella. You also have so many opportunities for extra credit!
My favorite professor! He's sooo smart and lectures way over your head at times but is always clear about what specific info he wants you to take from each class. Practice quizzes for exams, and extra credit for answering questions in class which is great if your shy like me and need an incentive to speak up.Also had all our names memorized week 1.
Dr. Tuerk is an amazing and well respected professor. He is super intelligent and funny. I would highly recommend recording his lectures to help with note taking and reviewing for his exams. His exams are essentially his practice quizzes, but he adds more to them towards the end of the semester. Take notes and participate for full extra points!
Tuerk for BIO171 was amazing. Don't get the textbook since he actively hates on it and doing the practice quizzes is much better for studying than reading the textbook. I didn't quite understand much of what he said but the practice quizzes really help and don't let the daily quizzes stress you out, they aren't bad if you do the practice quizzes
He's a really nice guy, very compassionate and caring, but you will not understand a word this man says. He gives daily quizzes but most of the stuff he covers in his lectures don't come up on the tests, and he is too smart to be teaching an intro class. Just memorize the practice quizzes you'll be fine
The class it's self is hard to remember all the material. he tends to talk to one side of the room so it's hard to hear him. a lot of what he says in lecture is not relavent. he gives participation points which helps if you don't do good but if you do good on the practice quizzes and study them you will be ok.
Tuerk overall is a great professor and always open to help. During class you probably will have no clue what is going on but going back into his power points helps a ton. Also using the diagrams he puts in his powerpoints is helpful. His review sessions before exams are life savors!
Tuerk's lectures may seem overwhelming, but he posts all of his lecture slides and assigns lots of practice quizzes to help you remember the material, but they are also graded for credit. Part of your grade is in class participation, but he gives lots of opportunities to get credit. Tests are only fail-able if you don't do practice quizzes!
Dr. Tuerk is a brilliant and respectful professor. He genuinely wants his students to succeed, and offers immense opportunities for extra credit. Study the quizzes, participate, pay attention, and you'll do very well. He's a great dude and loves his students.
Tuerk is a respectable professor who genuinely cares about his students. He uploads practice quizzes, and tests will be impossible to fail if you master them. Please go to his office hours and get to know him - he will teach you through what's on the upcoming quiz if you ask for help. Lectures can be overwhelming, but not everything must be known.
Tuerk is a great professor if you have a background in biology. His lectures are hard to follow, but his lab projects are much easier to do. Weekly quizzes and three exams, but if you take the practice quizzes you can't fail it. Very accessible outside of class and such a kind person.
