Very smart math professor
No Comments
He is smart, but cant teach.
HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! He's nice but it is practically impossible to pass his tests. For every test he makes you explain in words how you did the problem, and if you don't do it exactly right, he takes off points.
It'd be GREAT if he'd quit grading things like he's an English professor! What is the reasoning behind penalizing us for arriving at a conclusion in a different manner than he did? Please, get an under-shirt!
Grades like an english proffesor, you must write down EVERY detail on the tests....I recommend getting help outside of class if you don't understand the math....and write an ESSAY for each problem explaining EXACTLY what you did,AND WHY. Aviod this class!
Avoid this class if at all possible. You have to go back through the sections and teach them to yourself after the lectures. The strict grading procedures are completely unnecessary - there's no way you could get the right answer if you didn't do the work correctly.
almost everyone i know that had him my same semester dropped a letter grade after the final
WHERE do I start?! The man can't teach, he grades like a nazi, and my self-esteem took a beating thanks to his class. Ty, Dr. Turner, for making me miserable and being a certified twit! AVOID his classes; I seriously wouldn't want my WORST enemies to be subjected to this varmint!
BAD teacher. The worst i have had yet. Does not look anyone in the eye. Does everything possible to not let you get a good grade. Bad bad bad teacher.
Not very nice and is pretty hard. I don't like the guy even though I made a B in his class. He doesn't teach very well and he places way too much emphasis on your explanation of how you did the problem instead of your answer.
Boring as crap! Very nitpicky with grading. Obviously loves what he teaches, but not very good at teaching it.
Very smatt man, but CAN'T teach.. He grades your work like it was an english paper... and takes of for grammar!! I mean this is math!! I worked my butt of still didn't get a good grade.. it's sad when you turn in a test with every answer right but don't get an A or B bc of spelling and such!
Can't teach at all. DO not take him. I took him bc it fit into my schedule. Bad idea. I read the book and learned more than from what he said. He does give you the "solutions" from the tests though. His grading is very nitpicky. You'll get an answer right butyouhavetowriteitouttogetitright.
cannot teach at all! i asked him a question in class one day and he stopped in mid-sentence and continued teaching..so weird! all of his questions on the test were not problems! odd odd man
Very smart and is a serious theoretical mathematician. If you're a math major (or minor) or just really love math, take him. He'll spend lots of time after class answering questions and working stuff out for you if you show real interest in what he has to say. If not, you're better off with someone less demanding.
Not very good at explaining difficult concepts and is VERY critical in his grading. He does allow group work and cheat sheets, but those are only effictive if you have both paid attention and took great notes.
where to start? he doesn't cover the sections like im used to seeing...he doesnt go over all the concepts...just one example. so nit picky with grading...even if the answer is right, you are still likely to lose points...i don't know. smart...but there's something about thim...he's creepy.
HE IS AWEFUL!!!! do not take him unless you want to fail! he grades on grammer not on math! do not take him!
I would not take him. He if very hard and nit picky about everything on tests a quizzes. I made a C in the class and I worked my butt of with a TUTOR. Stay away!!
Ok So I have already taken the class before and gotten an A, I took him and I am getting a low B, also he doesn't look at his students, and he seems intimidated by them. He likes to do definitions on the tests and quizzes and he likes to ask why you got this answer, so be very specific if you get him
No Comments
Dr. Turner is an absolute math genius. His only problem is that he is soo much smarter than everyone else that it is hard for him to teach it effectively. If you take this class, u will be fine as long as you write every freaking thing down and study!!!!!!!!! Good guy if you talk to him though
wow, where do i start i dropped this class during midterms if math is not your strongest subject you will def. struggle with him. he is a very odd and intelligent man but teaching is not for him.
I got a C in his class althoug I got A' in precal and cal in high school. He's confusing. You can always finish your quiz or test later but that only helps if you can figure out the answers with the book and your notes, which is still very hard. I did have a B until the final which I didn't think he'd let us come back and finish since we had hours
Yea def drop this if you get him, but I found his class to be moderatly hard. He's intelligent but his teaching methods need work. For those of you stuck with him, I wish you the best.
I dont understand why everyone is so hard on Dr. Turner. He is a brilliant man, and if you can manage to not be intimidated by his math ability, and you put forth effort you should be alright. I made straight B's in math in high school and pulled an A in Turners Pre-Cal course. Like almost no required work, just study and know your stuff. SHOW WORK
tests are very hard and isnt very clear on his teachings...however, he does tell you whats will be on the quizzes but it still doesnt do much for you..dont recommend
This guy is soo wierd. All he does is stare at the floor when he teaches and he is so confusing.
a little strange, but very willing to help. if you dont have a clue when it comes to math dont take him, but otherwise if you study you willl do fine.
Not a fun class i loved math until him. The test are so hard and he didn't curve that much. can't miss more than 3 classes and is so boring!! He just stares at the floor when he teaches and is extemely hard to pay attention. Stay away if at all possible!
okay so i made straight a's in ap calculus in highschool and i'm hardcore struggling for a b in this class. Its soooo ridiculous! The guy is crazy smart, but he is not teacher material! He makes the easiest things sooo difficult! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
K i had him for math modeling and he is not very clear on anythign and the only reason why id becasue he is so smart!! He likes to make problems really intriquet in class. In math modeling he gave a review sheet for each test which basically told u what was on the test. If you take the review sheet to the tutor ull do fine!
He is confusing. It is hard to follow him. He goes way too fast and the tests are hard. It seems there are problems on there we never discussed in class. Do not take him.
He is very smart...but cant teach a lick. The tests are basically the study guide he gives out, but he takes off for the most miniscule things. If you learn how to answer his questions, you're fine, but If you suck at math and need help with explanations, you're in for a long year.
This class is not for those that are already mathematically challenged. Turner makes everything harder than it should be. He stares at the floor while he teaches, the class is extremely boring and there's an attendance policy. He does add a curve to test grades though. He also allows extra time to finish tests if the two class periods aren't enough
If you study, show up and at least try to understand what he is saying. You will do ...okay. But if you want something higher than a C, possibly a D, dont take this class. I think he has some sort of social anxiety because he stares at the floor while teaching. He knows what he is talking about, unfortunately he is the only one.
He is extremely difficult! Had him for Precalculus, and he made the class so much harder than it needed to be! Concentrates more on proofing math problems that actually finding an answer! Be prepared to work hard!
This class is really not that bad.If you arent strong in math,I would find another teacher. But,if youre reasonably good at it and can teach yourself then just take it.Its 3 tests,no Midterm, and a few quizzes. You can only have 4 absences but you won't want to miss his lectures. He tends to dwell on pointless things and stare at the floor.
don't be so hard on Mr. Turner, yeah his class is a little more difficult than some but he is extremely smart and overall fair!! He gives partial credit and gives an "approximation" to every class before the test. i like him.
I am taking him right now and i hate it. He stares at the floor all class and can never ask questions cause he doesn't see you. He is willing to help you but you still can't understand. he is extremely smart and makes everything harder than it should be. I had A's in high school math but I barely have a C right now.. DON"T TAKE HIM
Dr. Turner is the hardest teacher ever. I took him first semester freshman year thinkin he couldn't be that bad. I never made below a b in high school but I did horrible. The learning center can't help you. He's a math genius and he is the only person who understands. If you cheat on the test you still don't get A's. Trust me DO NOT TAKE TURNER!!!!
He makes things way harder than they are and dwells on pointless things. I wouldn't reccommend him because he will take off points because you didn't go into enough detail or you didn't say something the way he would prefer it. It gets really annoying and he should realize that we are never going to say exactly what he wants to hear.
Dr. Turner may be one of the most boring teachers in class, but he writes out all the notes and give them to you. I just get the notes from others and i pass everything. I will def. make an A in the class. I can always refer to the book. All quizzes and tests are take home and partner...I LOVE IT!
He is so boring, and dwells on useless information. The easiest material he makes so much harder and is very detailed when it comes to tests. I wouldn't take him if you had the choice.
I think Turner tries to teach, but I don't think he has very good social skills. He doesn't look at the class, he avoids all eye contact and he speaks entirely too low so no one can really understand him. But he does give all take-home tests but he grades really harshly for small things. Try to avoid him, but if you take him, hang in there.
Worst of the worst, your grade will fall by a whole letter after the final. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST !!!!
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!! Trust me if there is ANYONE else available take them instead he is the worst teacher i have ever had in my life!! He expects his students to know as much as he does and grades his tests extremely hard!!!
Very tough teacher. Whenever all the test are takehome, and you can use a partner then obviously you know something is going to challenging. Look for someone else, or be prepared to study daily
Dr. Turner is extremely meticulous, which really challenges the student to present extremely well thought out and calculated proofs. While it can seem a little ridiculous at times, in the long run it helps build a lot of important skills and is well worth the extra effort. He also doesn't move at an insanely fast pace like others.
In high school I made an A in Precal and i came out with a C. by the end of the first week, a full class of 30 or 40 was cut to 17. he does make his tests two-days but he looks for little mistakes and takes off regardless if you got the whole thing right. to put it simply DO NOT TAKE TURNER!
DO NOT TAKE HIM.
ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!!!! If you pay attention in class, it will only confuse you more! If you cheat, he will still find some way to fail you. He even takes off points for grammar! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! you may think you can get by, but it is NOT WORTH THE RISK!
Dr. Turner is a genius, but really lacks when it comes to teaching skills. I struggled in his class, but he was helpful outside of class. I received a C, but a B was possible.
Run away as far as you can from him. He will ruin your college life, future expectations and of course Hope scholarship. He takes out more marks than allocated. He goes on a witch hunt for grammar, word order and drawing [graphs]. Calculator is useless in his tests, if you use the Calculator you have to reason for that and draw a graph.
Just don't take this teacher. Period. I've know several people who have taken his class 3-4 times and wind up with at least two Ds before they finally got a C. Even when you do the homework, and get the material, it just simply doesn't matter, the man LOOKS for reasons to take off of points. "Jim" instead of "Jim Brown", that's points deducted.
If you go to class it isn't nearly as bad as other people say. If you miss class you will get behind and very confused. He is very strict on grading tests, but he also sometimes gives 2-3 days to finish a test if people aren't done. Just be smart and go home and study what you see on the test so you're ready the next day.
On day one he told us the tests would be 2-3 days long depending on how long it took students to complete. He said he expected us to note the problems on the test that we couldn't solve and go to the learning center to get the right answer. Sure you don't learn the info, but it's possible to get a good grade in the class without attending.
Very tough Professor. Attendance is very necessary, you could miss something important. Extremely meticulous. Even if something is given in the question for the problem, you must restate it in your answer. I would recommend trying ANY other professor. I'd feel bad if you got stuck with this guy.
Dr. Turner seems like a very nice guy his class is just really hard to understand. I have no doubt that it is easy material, but the way he explains it makes it entirely impossible to know what is going on. I would not take this class unless you are willing to spend all of your time studying to figure out what he was saying.
He gives you the notes then proceeds to read them in class. Monotoned and very boring.
He's a knowledgeable person, but his teaching skills aren't the best. He likes to explain things in an extremely complicated way. You really have to focus to understand what he is talking about. Also, he likes to go off on tangents about the wrong way to do a problem, which isn't helpful since it's not what is on the test.
Craig Turner no doubt has a very good idea of what he is teaching. He knows his material, but he has severe problems actually TEACHING the material. He totally fails to grab interest in the class, and moreover does not seem to notice that he has lost our attention. While trying to explain a problem, he will often over-complicate it.
I think everyone is just trying to bash him because the class is difficult. Dr. Turner can be tough to understand but he is always willing to help. As long as you ask questions you will be okay. It does take time outside of class but that's inevitable no matter the subject.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! He doesn't teach and his tests are extremely hard. He's not a bad guy, he's actually nice if you get him talking about stuff other than math but he's still a horrible professor. The only good thing about his class is that he gives you two days for the test so you can see the material and then get help from the learning center.
Craig Turner is a very nice professor. He is monotone in his lectures, and it's hard to care about what he is teaching about. But his tests are all "take home" tests and you can do them with a partner. If you work hard out of class three times per semester, you'll pass with a B.
HORRIBLE!!! His tests are all take home and they take more than 10 hours to do. Attendance is useless bc he stares at the floor all class while people leave. But if you have less than 4 absences at the end of the year he curves the crap out of your grade. And you will need it. Beyond confusing even though the material is simple. Dont need textbook.
Dr. Turner is a tough professor but extremely helpful if you take the time to ask. If you prepare before class you will get alot out of his lectures. Two websites www.khanacademy.org and www.brightstorm.com can really help you out. While Dr. Turner can be dry, the lectures are only 50 minutes and he delivers a very in depth look into the topics.
He is a hard teacher. His tests are very difficult. He really expects you to know the material! He curves the tests throughout the semester and the final grade, so don't worry. If you come to class and do your homework. He will help your grade at the end.
Professor Turner is not an easy professor. His lectures are very detailed, and they are presented in the way that he wishes for you to write your answers on the test. Dr Turner's tests are not difficult problem-wise, but he does require an explanation of each step taken in the evaluation of a problem. He does take role.I received an A in the class.
Seriously one of the most boring & difficult teachers I've ever had. I'm not a big math person & he & I got into an argument about how he expected everyone taking his class to treat calculus as if they're math majors. I made a C by the grace of God. Do yourself a favor & don't take him.
Dr. Turner is very smart and knows his stuff. I had a hard time at first because he moves very fast through his lectures. But overall he does teach you math, just in a more complex way. So be prepared. Overall I liked his tests, except that he wants intense details. Made an a in the class.
IMPOSSIBLE at teaching anything; Didn't make eye contact all semester; his back is always turned to the class; moves so fast no one can keep up; monotoned; gives out 100 packets of poorly copied hand written notes that will never help you; tests are 3 parts: take home (INSANE), in class(IMPOSSIBLE!) & online; will need learning center help A LOT!
His class is pretty easy. He would assign a date for homework but push it back every single time. I could have done the very first homework assignment the very last day of class. Lectures everyday and he is very unclear and the test are pretty hard. But every test you get a partner (including the final exam). And he's a really nice guy
Came ten minutes late and kept class 10 min over everyday. Good guy. But deciphering his teaching and notes was like trying to teach yourself calculus by reading a chemistry textbook. Ended up feeling like I knew less than I did when I started college
Literally worst teacher I have ever had. Makes no eye contact with students, takes off points for grammar errors, and overall is just an awful teacher. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
He will take points off for ANYTHING on his tests. It is impossible to pass unless you already have an understanding in Stats. Avoid at all costs.
The worst professor I have ever had in my entire life! My partner and I worked 2 weeks straight on take-home test and even got help from the learning center. Typed it out (bc he takes points off for being messy) and turned a 6 question test into 7 pages worth of work. Our "essay" didn't even stand a chance... Class average on all tests were in 50s
Terrible professor. Finals week, I'm sitting on all A's in 45 of my classes, & I'll be lucky to get a C in his class. Tests are extremely hard. & he takes off (.25, .5, .75, .1, etc.) points off for ANYTHING & EVERYTHING. It's hard to feel confident in ur abilities when he doesn't accept answers that aren't verbatim to his poorly written notes
Worst class I've ever had. I suck at math and he was no help at all. Never makes eye contact with the class and mumbles the whole time. I had to teach myself everything because its impossible to pay attention in class. You will never get an A on any of the test. You're better off with an asian professor honestly.
Do not. I repeat, do not take this man if you want to get a good or even a satisfactory grade in this class. The way he grades his tests are irrational. If you're a good test taker, you're going to need to double up for his tests.
Man I knew what I was walking into when I didn't drop his class and it has ruined me, I'm losing HOPE solely because of this dudes class. Averages are 50's in the class and he grades like nothing I have ever seen before it's ludicrous. I am not a math person but i put forth an effort in here and it bit me
If you can, avoid ALL possibilities of getting this teacher. He's nitpicky on grading every little thing. It's hard to understand him if you ask him for help.
Honestly one of the worst teachers I've ever had. Never knew what was going on in the class. He mumbled and talked to the floor. Going into the final I had an 80 and then I got a C on my final grade and he wouldn't even tell me what I earned on the final. I've never made below an A in a math class before and I made a C in his class.
He is socially awkward so he mumbles and is not very interactive, but if you genuinely pay attention you will do well. He always extends deadlines and offers extra help. I hate to see so many people bashing on him because he is a good guy who cares about his students. Sure you can get an easy A with a different teacher, but if you try youre fine
He doesn't even look at you or teach anything. He just writes on the board and rambles on about random stuff.
I'm currently taking this class, and so far this semester Dr. Turner has made eye contact with the class maybe once. He doesn't ever involve the class in his lectures, and he speaks in complete monotone. The date the homework is due has been pushed back 6 times already, and we have no idea when the test is even going to be. DO NOT TAKE.
Never since Farris Bueller have I seen a more monotone professor. I believe he has made eye contact with the class only one time in the entire semester. The rest is spent with him facing the chalkboard and mumbling about numbers. It is impossible to stay focused.
literally counts for ANYTHING. His tests are almost impossible to make a good grade on. he provides you with all the material necessary to do good, but his grading is extremely, extremely tough. he is a really sweet guy, and is willing to help you if you need it. hopefully, i will come out of his class with a good grade.
Dr. Turner's class is extremely challenging. However, he is very willing to help if you go to his office hours and ask him for it! We only had three tests throughout his course. His tests can be done with a partner in class and you have more than one class period to complete them. They also have an online component that he gives you multiple tries.
Really tough class. I never knew what he was talking about, I practically taught myself the material. Give up if you his class
Honestly, just save yourself the trouble and pick someone easier. You will not enjoy this class. He's a nice guy who, if you really do listen, does explain the math but it takes a lot of effort to do so. Don't suffer like I did.
He was a tough grader, tests are hard but he's really nice when you ask him to explain. He talks WAY over your head and made precalc really difficult. BUT there is a very small sliver of hope because partner tests!!!
Awful teacher. Horrible. Cannot even explain how unhelpful he was. Don't take him!
Turner is a really nice guy and he does teach how he knows how, but his teaching is awful and his test are incredibly difficult because he grades and counts of for the most minor things (I got .5 taken off a test a lot which builds up). But I left with a B because of easy homework and online tests, more work then precalc should but you can do it.
I did not enjoy my time with Turner at all. He doesn't make eye contact with the class at all, so getting an answer to a question is nearly impossible because he won't see your hand. Tests are super difficult and take 2 to 3 class periods to complete but you get to work with a partner. He takes points off for not showing ALL your work.
Do not get professor Turner unless you want to lower your GPA. There were a total of five questions the whole semester from the class. The material is extremely in depth, and you will have to teach it to yourself. The class averages for the first two tests were 70. You must explain everything in extreme detail, he takes off points for everything.
Don't do this to yourself, or your gpa.
Turner spends all of class lecturing in a monotone voice and gives confusing feedback when asked questions about the homework. Tests are bulky and confusing and he pulls the questions from the most random things that are offhandedly mentioned in the textbook. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. No in class practice. No help. Doesn't care about students.
I would imagine he is the worst teacher at the school. He lectures everyday in a monotone voice and when you ask questions you end up more confused than before. there is no class engagement so forget about asking for help. please do not do this to yourself. I would only recommend if you took whatever class he is teaching prior to taking this.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT TAKE HIM!! Monotone lectures with 5 T-shirt variations. If you are stuck in this class at least start a betting pool on which of the 5 colors he will be wearing, because this will be the only exciting thing of the class. Unless of course, a student falls asleep and bangs their head on their desk. IMPOSSIBLE ESSAY TESTS!
Don't do it. Lecture heavy, boring, talks from the beginning till the end of class. Awful.
I took precalculus in high school, so I thought taking it in college would just be repetition of the same material. BUT it is so much harder. I don't even think the content is that difficult it's just the way he teaches. He writes SO small. I sat in the front row and I still could not see it. PLZ help yourself and find another professor
Craig is an overall hidden gem at Georgia College. He assigns take home test that you can work with partners, multiple tries on homework, extends time on practically anything if you ask him. Yes his teaching style is too advance for most if not all his students to understand but regardless he gives material that help you understand what he teaches.
really nice guy just can't teach and grades real real hard...
For his test, he wants almost a whole paragraph for the work. Everything has to be specific and make sure to show ALL of your work, even if it is just adding 2 + 2. The online homework is very long. However, if you ask him nicely to extend a homework assignment he most likely will. Go see him in his office hours bc he can help you for the test.
DO NOT take this class. Professor is a really tough grader and no matter what you do you will still struggle on every test. Terrible lectures. Smart guy, but he just does not know how to teach a college course.
DO NOT EVER THINK OF TAKING THIS CLASS. Goes off on rants and doesn't really explain topics in depth. Class lectures are literally based off of a worksheet he gives you the first day of class. He is a tough grader too.
It would be more interesting to listen to the Windows speech engine narrate the lessons than to attempt to understand this man's teaching. He goes off on tangents a lot and is very difficult to follow. You WILL need to do the homework because that is the only way you will learn anything. He's a nice guy, but teaching sure isn't his strong suit.
Doing the homework really helps before taking exams, and looking over the worksheets helps. Follow how he presents his work on the worksheets he passes out-- at least that's what helped me. He is a nice man and a very, very smart one. His teaching style is very advanced, but if you stop by in his office hours, he is very much willing to help.
Terrible lectures, incredibly difficult tests with even harder grading. Course felt like it was more suited to upper-level math students. If you do get stuck in this course READ AND UNDERSTAND THE WORKSHEETS. The work is provided better and more clearly on there and prepares you for the test the best. 3 tests (20% each), HW (10% total), final (30%)
Y'all Craig is actually the worst professor in the world. He takes off many points on tests for things it does not say to do in the directions. He doesn't teach anything he tests on, and his tests are graded super harshly. Our class average for each test was always failing. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR GPA TO GO WAY DOWN
I did the majority of homework in Dr. Turner's class while also attending most of the classes and doing fairly well (compared to the class) on the tests. The problem is Dr. Turner is a math teacher who will count off if you misspell words, the class test average is very low. He seems fine till the tests which make this seemingly easy class a pain.
DO NOT take. He is was too hard of a grader and grades on grammatical issues rather than if you did the math correct. Takes points off for things he never taught. Doesn't answer questions in class. Doesn't look away from the board or his desk to answer any questions or help anyone.
Craig Turner is not a terrible teacher, but this class may be one you have to do more of learning it on your own. If you haven't previously taken Pre Cal in high school, I don't recommend taking Dr. Turner. The way he grades is harsh, but always remember to put more than you think you need. He is a nice guy outside of class, though. Go see him!
