Probably one of the most energetic, friendly, and helpful teachers I've seen in my college years. The class may be a bit too easy, but it's been a pleasure to have her.
Pogge is a teacher that is genuinely interrested in the biology. She loves teaching and it shows. She is always very helpful in and out of class to all her students. She also knows how to write her name in hieroglyphs :-)
Unclear lectures, way too much extraneous information. Study guide is vague too.
She is kind, helful, and dedicated. She was my instructor in Bio 101A. The class was not easy, you need to work hard to get A. But, once you passed the class, you will realize that you have learned so many things from this class.
Great lectures, seems like a nice teacher during class... but once you try to ask her a question after class, she doesn't seem as nice anymore. Overall, learned a lot! If you follow her study guides, you'll be fine.

do not take her, lectures are unclear, she should take esl classes, she can not teach biology, when you ask her questions she can not answer them. her exams are very hard,i think she takes them from some other books because when people ask her questions in lecture she cann't answer them
at the beginnig of the semester she seems nice and helpful but when semester started she is not nice and helpful, she is very hard to understand and makes hard exams
This is one of the worst classes I've ever taken at CCSF! Crima is the hardest teacher ever, I never thought a teacher was hard until I took her! This class took up almost all of my time, and all those details to memorize results in frustration! She is nice, but the class is a b*tch! Oh yeah, she speaks way too fast also! Pen can't keep up!
she was annoying. her class infuriated me at times. i wouldn't recommend her personally, but it's not like it's a death sentence. it's just a semester!
This is a class for total hippies who want to save the planet. I took this class so I wouldn't have to disect anything. This class was really boring and was full of opinionated hippies. 90% of the time spent in class was spent on everyone talking about
Crima Pogge is an amazing teacher!! She has an enthusiasm that is a joy to watch. She tries hard to help everyone succeed and is always available for questions. Her lectures are clear and informative and coursework is extremely well organized. While the class is not easy, if you follow the guidelines she provides, you can do well. Yay Pogge!
She's not very clear on her lectures and often messes up in class. She confuses the class and gets back to the class with the "correct information" the next lecture period. Never ever take her!! She doesn't even curve!
Crima is an excellent teacher who makes the subject matter interesting and genuinely cares about her students. This class is difficult but it raises the bar for community college. Other courses I have taken in the Bio department are easy and boring.
Her exams are hard &they don't match her lectures. If you take her class, you'd have to find an Ecology book to study from bc she didn't use 1. Saving $80 was cool, but not at the expense of getting a low grade or failng. When it came time for a test, everyone was confused about what to study? Her online studyguides wer confusing & lacked clarity.
I will be very objective about the review. The common rule is, if you study, you will do well. My grade has nothing to do with her test materials. The tests were easy. I got pretty much 100% in all her quizzes, but got a D in the midterm--just because I did not want to study. I was having a serious conflict with her teaching method. SHE IS NOT A KN
I liked the class, and found Ms.Pogge to be a helpful and caring teacher. She was willing to spend extra time when I had questions.
Excellent, organized and professional.

She's a good teacher & considers our concerns. In fact, it's not a easy subject, but I think you can make it if you like nature & want to know more abt that. As an Asian student, it's a tought class for many deep vocabs. However, there'r many ways to get more points from extra credit & follow through the instructions, then you'll get A easily
Crima is a tough teacher. You definately have to study a lot for the course because there is a lot of material. Once you fall behind, its so hard to catch up. She is a nice teacher, but its a tough class. The midterms and final is difficult because there is a lot to study. Overall, the class is manageable if you have the time to study.
Crimma is very enthusiastic about the subject. Presents material very well. organized and clear lectures. you have to study for this class ALOT and do not fall behind. there's some extra credit offered. I really enjoyed her class and would highly recommend it.
There are only exams in this class and no homework (except for lab). The exams are hard because there are around a hundred questions in the study guide and you answer less than a fifth of them, where each one weighs a lot of points. There aren't answer keys to the study guides, so you'll have to find time to ask her how to answer the questions.
be honest, she is not an easy teacher. It is hard to follow her lectures and fill your study sheets. Actually, it is a hard class for ESL students, but if you need help, she is willing to spend hours with you in her office. However, she is the NICEST teacher i have ever known. Although she is sick, she is funny, and enthusican. I just love her :)
Crima was an excellent and inspiring teacher. She was well organized, clear, and passionate. She was always available for extra help. She expects you to study hard. The exams are not easy! Pay close attention to the study guides. I highly recommend her class. She provides an excellent introduction to cell biology.
She is a dedicated teacher. However, she could be much clearer and more knowledgeable in the area of genetics and cellular functions. She is good for Applied biology. Textbook was horrible. She emphasizes too much on diseases. My intention was to get a systemic view of biological entities, not to become a technician. I withdrew with frustration.
Crima is the reason i am where i am today, studying biology. her enthusiasm and passion for what she does inspires me to this day. My only complaint about Crima is that sometimes her english in not perfect which can make a HUGE difference on the exams.
A great teacher with a deep interest in her subject. Her tests, however, can be somewhat difficult, perhaps due to a slight language problem - some multiple choice questions are difficult to understand and answers can be difficult to distinguish from one another. Otherwise, an awesome prof who likes her students.
She is really passionate and keeps the class interesting. You can tell she loves what she does. There is not a lot reading and the book is really cheap and tiny. She uses Webct for almost everything and powerpoint for lectures which is helpful. She is German so sometimes you cannot understand her, but if you have common sense its not rocket science
She's a nice enough lady, but as others have mentioned, her lectures ramble and become uninteresting. She gives you these study guides with loads of questions & often doesn't answer them in lectures. The tests are based on those guides, so if you can't fill them in you're stuck. I kind of resent her style and wouldn't reccomend her class.
Crimma is a good teacher. She can be unclear at times and she knows that. Just raise your hand and ask her to clarify; she welcomes all questions. Her class involves a lot of work (study guides, online quizes) but you will appreceate it on test day. Go to lectures because she goes over some stuff that isn't in the book.
She is nice, but her class isn't. Frankly speaking, you don't learn much from the lecture(2 lec per Ch, I doubt u can follow much), but u must go to lec to get info not on the textbk. In brief, expect overwhelming workload and exams and work hard on them; make them as ur daily routine.GD LUCK.BTW, she admits her exam is harder than the other.
She is a teacher who knows her subject well but hard to explain it clearly. She is a nice person but her exams are hard. Study hard will pay off. She has extra credit that worth 30 points. All the questions on short answer quiz are from her study guide. You have to know well to do well in her class.
It's a difficult class, no question about it. There is a ton of material, but that isn't her fault. Her accent is noticeable but her spoken English is excellent - it's in the written questions on tests that the shades of meaning start to cause some problems. But she's a good professor and a charismatic person.
definitely a hard course!
Crima is a very nice lady she encourages you to ask questions, she subbed for Joe Cannon today in class and I walked out of the class feeling that I understood biology and that I learned something. I signed up for her class after reading the reviews, but when I got to the class she gave it to Joe Cannon. I wish she was teaching Bio 20, it's easy.
Took BIO20 w/ honors and had an awesome time. Group project (on an ongoing basis) is to watch and count migratory birds by the bay. Now she is a tough grader. For an A you'll have to study a lot. Also, pay attention to the review sheets she hands out for each chapter, and ask questions to make sure you have all the answers. Lots of field trips!
I've just finished her class this semester. First,i have to say this is a hard course.Second, she made it harder. She gave tough test, and her lab is kind of confuse, but she is a nice person personally. Be ready to study your ass off, guys. you'd better read through all the text book, otherwise you won't pass the exams!1!
Hard class! Great teacher!! That said, this is one of the most challenging classes I've taken, but you'll learn a ton. If you're a science major trying to transfer, you'll know your stuff when you leave but your going to have to work for it. DO THE STUDY GUIDES EARLY AND COMPLETELY & use the website you, you can get an A (I got a B, my fault).
THE WORST TEACHER THAT I EVER HAD I MY LIFE!!! hard hw, hard exams, hard lab. even though i got an A with her bio class, i would highly NOT recommend you guys to take her class. If you wanna pass her class, you have to spend >15hr/week on this stupid class. If u wanna get A, study for >6hr a day, and you will be safe.
I learned so much! She requires a deep understanding of topic. The level of difficulty is reasonable in relation to the fact: this is bio101A! She has an intimate and personal understanding of life that she conveys. She deeply cares about the success of her students. THIS IS A VERY HARD CLASS! I would have felt let down if it wasn't!
Very DIFFICULT class. Her exam questions can be VERY TRICKY at times. I took this class as part of my 17-unit load and it was not fun. You will need to devote a lot of outside-of-class time to study. I will say that I did not walk away from this class without first learning a whole bunch of things tho.
Worst teacher ever!Super hard exams! The lecture is useless, you will pass only if remember the whole book. And she likes to play words in exams which is super difficult for ESL students. And there are just too many questions to answer within 1 hour. She always smile at class which makes you think she is nice, in fact, she is not.
the worst teacher! like many others, don't take her! she tries to put 2-3 chapters in that one hour lecture. i've no idea what she's saying in the lecture. study guides r so USELESS. MAN we're taking intro-class but she asks questions that require deep understanding of the subject. don't take her. NOT RECOMMENDED!
typical for people who are taking too many classes tend to whine to much because they dint get a good grade. This bio100a not 11. expect hard work from these classes its a 5.0 credit class.
IF YOU think bio 100a is hard take chem101a or above now those are even more challenging and time consuming classes you ever took. Any class that has 5 units or more are hard classes. Not easy ones that you can pass easily
Study guides ARE helpful, do them. If you read the book and do the study guides you should do fine. If you don't, then you need to revise your study habits. Bio is not suppose to be easy so stop whining. Not everyone is made out to be a bio or science major. The # of chapters covered is required so they can't help it. But her lectures are weak.
This is another one of those teachers who seem really nice and friendly and then bite you bad on the exams. This class is supposed to prepare you for the next level. But Bio 101B was about ten times easier. Not the best lecturer, and not very helpful either. Prepare to give up your social life if she's your only choice.
Her lectures are pretty lame and the textbook as well. But her tests are very hard and convoluted. Close the end of the semester she said during the lecture "this class is not for everyone". which kinda irritated me considering that the withdraw ended weeks ago. Textbook is pretty much useless when it comes to study guide.best to use the internet
Best. Teacher. Ever. She is most organized, you will know EXACTLY what to expect and what to do to get to where you want to be. That's rare. Lectures are very dynamic. Gives you all the tools to help you learn and understand. Most caring and thoughtful teacher I've ever had. If you don't do well, chances are you need to rethink your education path!
Great teacher! She's passionate teacher who's willing to help. Warning, there are a lot of work in this class. Although I barely pass this class, I can't deny the fact that she's a great teacher.
I agree that this alot of work, but it is mostly busy work because the study guides will keep you occupied on hours on end. be warned that quizes can come as a suprise if your not early to labs. -20 points if your late to labs or lectures thats a huge chunk of points it can mean pass/fail. i do not recommend this to anyone who doesn't have the time
Crima delivers an engaging lecture, and keeps the class interested with her instruction. However, this tricks students into a false sense of security for the exams, which are extremely difficult and cover material not discussed in lecture or lab. Be prepared to be surprised during exams. Left many exams feeling my studying was a waste of time.
Yes, you must attend lecture, read, and study to do well in this class. Duh. Pogge is one of the best professors I took at CCSF. She is an absolutely great lecturer and if you complete her study guides, you will be perfectly prepared for the exams. She even gives credit if the wording of a question was misleading. Fast paced, try to keep up.
This class requires time and dedication! Online quizzes are worthless, point-wise, but very helpful! Lots of questions are on the test. Key idea: DO NOT get behind. Stay on task, always, and an A is reachable. Do the EC too (24 pts). Tests-- short answer ARE from the study guides so just do them. & Know the material before coming to lecture.
Honestly, she is a very nice and passionate teacher. But her teaching ways did not really help me succeed in the class- there was too much uneccesarry busy work such as study guides and quizzes. I wish she told us what exactly was on the tests and what to study exactly. I felt the material so dense - so I did not reach the grade i needed ):
Worst class ever, her lectures do not really reflect on what she tests you on. The labs are completely useless and I have learned zero things in lab. Her lectures are completely useless but attending class is mandatory. If you're a biochem major that needs this class, just change your major to Chem or something along those lines to avoid this class
I don't like her teaching ways. Everything of her lecture is not clear. She speaks English with German accent. You will have a lot of work to do in her class. You will have a lot of confusions in her class. Take this class if you can learn Biology by yourself. I have no interests in Biology anymore.
Ecology of Mendocino is a camping trip. She's a great, but tough, instructor. Very knowledgeable, passionate. Invites questions & is happy to share her knowledge. Strives to help students make connections and celebrates curiosity about science. For her weekend courses, I recommend you take them P/NP unless you really want to work. Final was hard.
Worst teacher ever. She's very unclear and her study guides do not reflect what is covered in the book or her lecture. Take it at Skyline if you can!
By far worst teacher I have ever had. Very unclear and study guides are endless. Take this class somewhere else if you can.
WORSE TEACHER EVER!!!! take this class somewhere else. she's makes you do endless study guides, that are not that helpful. she seems nice at first, but once you get to know her really rude. i regret taking this class.
She is a very unclear and vague lecturer. Rarely specifies what she expects for an answer for the study guides or the exams. Assigns lab reports without laying out specific guidelines for what she expects. Clicker questions and online quizzes aren't all that helpful for reasons other than being busy work. Take this somewhere else if you can.
Horrible class. HORRIBLE lecturer. She has no consideration for how long it takes to actually learn new material. She has absolutely no problem shoving multiple chapters into one hour when she is behind because of her own long winded and unnecessary explanations. It usually takes her 2-3 class sessions to cover one chapter. take this elsewhere
Ugh. Have to fill out a never ending packet of questions for EVERY chapter (about 20 ch) then she randomly picks 2 question from each packet for the exam. Then you have to go to every class for clicker pts. Then you have few online quiz every other day. Repeat this for the lab component and sprinkle in more busy work assignments. You do the math,
Crima is really an amazing professor. A is totally doable with the extra credit opportunities over the semester (not much, but enough to raise B+ to A). Three lecture exams are fair & straightly from the study guides (Read the book!!!), but you do need to have further understandings about the materials to do well on two lab exams & final!!!
I dread to know what this class would be like in person. Poorly written lessons, massive amount of coursework each week, and constantly changing technology and methodology in the class. I spend an average of 4 nights each week after work on this class (3-4 hrs each night). It's 34 of the way thru the semester and I don't even have a grade yet.
Crima is one of the best professors at CCSF, hands down. She's enthusiastic and wants you to succeed. I'm currently taking her class and the subject is HARD, but not because of her. Her tests are exact questions off the study guides and not cumulative. Do the study guides, and you have an A. Tests: 12 short answer and 12 multiple choice.
I was honestly scared to take this class because there are so many poor reviews of Prof. Pogge on this website. I am so glad that I took this class with her this past semester. Although this class is very difficult, (mostly due to the bulk of material), Crima is a great teacher and wants her students to do well. Time management is key to success.
Her class is challenging but it can be passed. Expect a ton of homework, quizzes, reading, furms, and a big project. If you do your reading, turn in your homework, and make sure you're on top of everything then you shouldn't have a problem getting a decent grade. It's very easy to get behind in this class. Crima is a very helpful and good professor
I took ECOL10 online and I loved it. Her video lectures were fascinating: the reading and tests went hand in hand. Her research projects inspired me and I carried many things I learned with me to this day. I even planted a blue agave to attract endangered butterflies because of it .It worked! I'd take another of her online courses in a heartbeat.
Bio100A. ESL teacher. Consistently gave false information in lecture. Lab manual is horribly written and contains false information frequently. Class is easy A just answer study guides and review connect POST quizzes. Connect pre quizzes are a waste of time. Extra credit is fun and compensates for confusions that arise likely from ESL. Nice person.
One of the worst teachers at CCSF. Avoid if you can or take it anywhere else.
shes rude and unhelpful and only pretends to care about her students.
Don't
Professor Pogge expects a lot of her students. She barely goes over the material and expect you to learn everything by yourself. She does not consider that students are taking other classes or have other priorities. Yes you can pass by completing and memorizing her study guides, but it wont help you understand biology in the long run.
Uhm no. Professor Pogge expects a lot of her students. She barely goes over the material and expect you to learn everything by yourself. She does not consider that students are taking other classes or have other priorities. Yes you can pass by completing and memorizing her study guides, but it wont help you understand biology in the long run.
A lot of quize/online quizes/iclicker qs/lab work. I dont believe anyone can get an A. Worst lecturer. I am an 4.0 student for 2 sems consecutively. I got a D in mid-term. Pls take this class elsewhere. It doesnt feel like 5 units. It feels like 10. Even 6unit chem 101a/b is a lot easier than this class! AVOID FOR LIFE!!!!
I took this class 6 years ago before transferring to ucsd, then to the ohio state university for my doctor of pharmacy degree. Yes, this class is hard and a lot of work, but let me stress to you all that this is THE BARE MINIMUM you need to know in order to have a successful science career. Crima is the best!!! Let her teach you, soak in the info.
This class was my least favorite experience in my life so far. There is so much busy work in this class, she is not a good lecturer, and she rarely gives A's. Her multiple choice test questions are harder, less clear versions of the MasteringBio review questions. She doesn't use canvas properly and the "extra credit" ends up being 3% of your grade.
hands down the worst professor to take. that class doesn't feel like a 5 unit course at all. its more like an 18 unit course or higher cuz she gives a lot of work and doesn't consider her students have other classes that they need to work on. taking high level class like chem 101b doesn't come close to the workload this class hands out.
Honestly the worst professor at CCSF. If you are taking this class get ready to invest your whole life into. You would not have enough time for any of your other classes. Most of her class is just self-teaching since she can't teach. She never updates her canvas schedules and always has outdated information. This class makes me hate Biology.
Worked so hard to just to get a C which is terrible considering its a 5 unit course. People literally retake her class more than once, that should tell you the kind of sht professor she is. honestly i sincerely hope she gets what she deserves in life.
Sadly there isnt another professor teaching BIO100A. Your safest bet is to take this course at a different community college
Do not take unless is the ONLY class you are taking. A lot of unnecessary work that distracts you from learning the actual materials you need to know for the test. The amount of study guides that you need to SELF study is almost endless.
Worst professor to take. It's better to take it somewhere else if possible. The workload is unreal and doesn't consider her students have other classes to work on.
This teacher, not professor, is the worst person teaching in CCSF. She did not get a bachelor in biology major. She cannot answer questions that students asked her in class. She also gives students a lot of fxxking insane work to do and seems we do not have any other classes. She also ask you to do presentation which is ridiculous in a bio class.
This instructor does not teach well. Superficially encourages students then rudely answers questions that are more complex, seemingly to distract from lack of knowledge. Excess busy work is assigned for the same reason. Tries to cleverly re-word text questions, which sometimes backfires when lack of language fluency arises; not a great experience.
Listen people Crima is a great teacher and she is very kind, sassy but kind! She REALLY wants her students to succeed but since we are ADULTS she shouldnt have to hunt u down to ask if you need help. The reviews say shes hard as heck but shes not its just a hard subject in general. If you want to pass then study and find friends if u want fun!
If you put in a little bit of time every day to understanding the concepts and stay on top of the study guides, you 100% can pass. Crima is clear in her explanations, and there to help you if you take the responsibility to seek her out. This is a difficult subject, and like a reviewer wrote, the bare minimum of Bio knowledge you need for later on!
Terrible. Only passed because of corona, I went from a F to a B-. Only take her class if it's online! In person, expect to self teach because her lectures are useless, but required to go for clicker questions. Literally talks down on her students and tells them they won't succeed in whatever they're trying to pursue. Take bio at a different college
Took this class a few years ago after returning to school. Instructor becomes rude to distract you from noticing that she makes occasional glaring errors about the subject matter, so don't approach her for help. BIO 100A should be about BIO 100A. It is too obvious that this is not what is happening here. The Bay Area has other BIO 100A options.
Professor Pogge is a great teacher in terms of material. That being said, the online course with her was a struggle. Textbook and quiz format changed halfway through the semester. Grading is unclear and on the syllabus it says "subject to change". I think she would have made a much better professor in person.
I have a BS in bio. I've never had a class w/ so much work. Quizzes, readings, labs, discussion, and forum responses weekly. She emphasizes understanding, not memorization. If you're going into med or science, I highly recommend. If you just want to pass the class, don't take her. This class is not hard, just very time consuming. I enjoyed it.
Terrible. Do not take this class with Crima if you have the chance. She assigns ridiculous amounts of busy work and does not coordinate the workload with the lab professor so you end up having triple the amount of work to do. When approached by many students about the workload she told them to drop the class instead of offering help.
I understand why so many people are upset with the amount of workload. This is class is not built for people who take it just to fullfil the requirement. For those who are trying to go into science, particularly biology it is a grade class. On another note, I think Crima is a great professor she cares about her students.
Group projects put you in with those who might not care about their grades. The instructor did not seem to care about the material when explaining it during office hours, or was covering up her lack of knowledge, as she rushed us through our focused questions. She often repeated that this was a majors class as if to justify excessive assignments.
I took this course a few years ago, returning now, but it is not a good memory. She had study guides which were poorly written; it was stressful just deciphering what she meant. It was like she did not want to communicate and/or could not communicate. Technology switched in mid-semester, adding to confusion. Overall a very low quality experience.
