She was a ok prof. Nice person, but i don't think she is good at teaching.
Excellent professor. Knows her stuff and will help you during her office hours. You get a great mark if you attend!
I really liked her! You can tell she enjoys teaching! Unfortunately, she does rant a bit too much at times. Many times when we were taking up an assignment she would spend half an hour just taking up the multiple choice and we wouldn't have time to look over the harder questions. Overall, she is a great prof, a fair marker, and a wonderful person!
I absolutely LOVE Christina! She's one of those profs who have a real impact on the way you view life. On the first day she showed us a job description for UN which was inspiring to see. She really cares about her students and takes the time to learn their names and also has a kickass motivational pep talk just when you need it!
Mostly she just read the ppt at the lecture and gave nothing useful in the exam. She usually gave high grade for your assignments and pretty low grade for your exams, and the final was tough and obvious not fair. I know she tried to be a good teacher, but I think she should care more about her students.
She is an amazing professor. She explains everything very well and she is wiling to reexplain if someone did not understand. Her midterm was mostly easy. She really cares about the students and she want to make sure that they are understanding what she is trying to explain. Do not hesitate to take her class.
She's nice and looks like she cares about her students but I found her exams did NOT reflect what she emphasizes in class. For ex, in stats our second midterm was 2 chapters and he said "Focus on chapter 4." There was literally one from ch. 4 on the midterm. She bell curved the grades and still wouldn't tell us the average because it was so low.
Beware
Christina is definitely the best professor in my first semester of school. She was kind, and at the same time made it clear that the purpose of her class is not to give everyone A+, which seems only fair. The line to her office hours was always long as she took time to answer all the questions students had, and she's also always available by email.
Her lecture isn't clear and there's no textbook you can study. She gives no feedback on assignments and there aren't any materials to study for the exams. Her exams are also hard and doesn't reflect the assignments. And she takes attendance so you have to go to her boring lectures.
If you're not at good at math, then you're definitely going to struggle in her class. She never revealed the average for the midterm, that's how bad it was. Her midterms aren't multiple choice, which is what makes it even worse. In my opinion, her midterms are hard for no reason. You would think it would be similar to the Connect assignments but no
Good prof and available during office hours
good prof not necessary to attend
Literally tanked my GPA, assessments are unnecessarily hard and don't follow the examples of what you learn in class; so much of what you need to know is implied and not directly taught. Calc was not a prerec for this class and yet the midterm was 75% calculus. Learned more for this class in ECO 2117 and DVM than in her lectures. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Real tough grader, both 2 mid-terms are short answers and the final is multiple choice Qs. You should be comfortable enough with Math to understand and do well in the course. The prof is always available during office hours. She has the tendency to speed up very quickly at the end of the semester to catch up with the material.
The midterms were short answer and they were nothing like the examples she would provide or the online quizzes we had to do every week. The final was all multiple choice and the questions were out of nowhere. This class ruined my GPA.
Do the connect assignments AND the practice assignments!! You paid for connect... might as well use it well. Her midterms are all short answers. Really not that tough, but read properly. Her final is all multiple choice. I would suggest doing other prof's practice exams and midterms because they are usually all MC and it's good practice.
Cristina is an very nice lady with an great marking scheme, do not listen to all the bad reviews. However, her lectures are boring and final is not impossible if you study very hard.
If you need to take this course take it with Cristina. she is super sweet, goes slow in class and welcomes questions. she will explain concepts until everyone understands it. she is more concerned with her students understanding than getting through tons of material. 2 midterms are super easy, and the connect assignments are a grade booster!
Basically, and mathematically does not know what she is talking about. Midterms are nothing like the practice. Concepts seem simple in class and during assignments but during testing are given in a way that was never seen before.
Terrible prof, she either said she was not getting the concepts through to the students or that we were not working hard enough. Nothing she taught or focused on was on the written midterm, and she doesn't explain herself and calls people out for having a blank face since she makes no sense.
Two midterms are all short answers, non-multiple choice. The second midterm is harder than what I thought. An explanation for what you wrote done not always simple and explanation count for a part of the mark in each question.
The material covered in class was not the same material tested on the midterms and exam. Also, she explained course material by using specific examples rather than discussing the overall concept.
She may not be the most perfect prof you'll ever get, but do not worry if you have her. She explains things very well one-on-one and as long as you study for a decent amount of time, you'll get a good grade.
Don't be afraid of eco with her, she explains the concepts clearly and she spends plenty of time on the important topics that can be on the exam. Exams are based on basic concepts, just participate in lectures.
Decent prof. She was a good teacher and knew her material but was stuck teaching a very dry class. Microeconomics is a breeze if you plan on taking it as an elective, and I would surely recommend taking it with Cristina if possible.
Very hard!
Absolute joke of a professor, the class is easy but she tries to complicate everything. I genuinely can't believe she was hired by the school. Do yourself a favour and switch
Her midterm averages are well below the norm but she refuses to bell curve any assignment or mid term.. good luck
She is ridiculous! Stuff is easy but her midterms and assignments are extremely confusing. The grading criteria is unclear
not a very fair professor, makes you learn on her terms and her assignments and tests are very confusing
Probably the worst prof I've had in the department so far. She does not think about the students and tries to make an easy class harder for no reason at all. Try your luck with another prof
Same energy with Gordon which means take other professors.
she made the class very boring and heavy and I do not like her because it was very unnecessary and she sets students up to fail. Tutorial quizzes are terribly framed and you cannot go back to check your answers on a times quiz and homeworks are hard
Nice lady, okay as a prof. Has an accent but it wasn't too hard to understand. She explained the material but you're probably better off just reading the textbook (which is mandatory, there's weekly assignments based off of it on connect). Exams were hard.
just not a fan - she co-taught with LP Morin and the class was completely asynchronus with lectures posted at the very beginning of the semester (slides had summer 2020 written on them) so the effort just seemed minimal; definitely had to do a lot of practice bc minimal support from prof, not a very accessible class (basically a self-taught class)
Horrible professor, tries to gate keep her test questions, assignments, and quizzes. I have never had a professor who looks to trick students rather then test knowledge
Her lectures are BASICALLY (she overuses this word) the textbook. Assigments everyweek. Heavy course. Hard to understand the material of the class. very hard exam
Horrible teacher, her tests are really weird and she tries to keep as much information from you as possible. its like she wants her students to fail....
Her lectures were easy to follow, and helped clarify content in the textbook. The class was asynchronous so I did not have a lot of personal interaction with her. From what I can see she is an average professor
Go for another prof if you can! she's too difficult and very hard to reach! She sets her students up to not pass
First, you have to buy a 80-100$ platform for the class. I had her + Gordon Lenjosek and she was better. Her lectures are a reasonable length and not painful to watch. However, she's hard to reach through office hours + didn't really answer emails. You'd only get help from TAs. The midterms/finals are hard and loaded yet practice tests were useless
Very average professor. Makes the lectures uninteresting.
Horrendous professor, and an absolute disgrace to uottawas reputation. Never in my 21 years of academic discourse have I had a professor as horrible as her.
She's a nice professor, I do enjoy her class, but I don't like her quizzes and exams. She doe have office hours, but questions asked through email will not be answered. The way how quizzes are being calculated is not a good way at all. Exams are a bit tough and very tricky. Also, the second assignment is extremely hard compared to the first one.
Teaches the material well. Exam and midterm kinda hard.
Her lectures are amazing, she explains things so well without dragging it on or boring us. Microeconomics is a very difficult course and she made the content much easier to learn. Would take again in a heartbeat.
Her teaching is normal but mid-term and the exam was so hard. I took ECO 1102 with a different professor and her teaching was superb. Plus mid-term and final were fair.
I absolutely loved this teacher! So nice! You can tell she loves what she's teaching. Her teaching was pre-recorded lectures but they were seriously so good. She explains the material SO well. I absolutely love her! The best prof I ever had in regards to teaching. The tests are hard, you do need to study! she was also always available for help.
Differ your class if its with her shes not worth your time
Just avoid her. I cried after every lecture and quiz. The assignments were hard for no reason as well. The final seemed easier but trust her to grade terribly.
Professor Blanco-Perez has no path when it came to teaching the course, it was often all over the place. Her lectures has limited relation to the weekly quizzes and assignments she provides, they are all based off the weekly tutorials that are different than the course material of the week. Her final exam was just confusing and difficult.
I wanna give you a zero, but that's not possible so I give you a one. DO NOT TAKE HER. Trust (if you care about your grades and your mental health). She is mean when responding to emails and sometimes just not answer you.
Her tutorials she provides in this class were absolute trash and not helpful in helping students succeed in this class. Professor Morin whom taught alongside with her was poor too. Avoid both of these professors if you care about your grades in this class.
Very hard class. Tutorials are not helpful, and exam time is very short. Avoid her classes!!!
as a prof shes not that bad, but her tests are the absolute worst which makes you not like her all that much. avoid at all costs, her exams are deathly.
my least favourite class, because even when I read the textbook, watched the lectures and attend the tutorials, her tests were so hard that I only could get a 60-70 mark. the practice past midterms she gives is 1000x easier than the ones she gives for the actual midterm. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Awful prof. Her midterms are nothing like what she teaches, and her teaching style is average at best. I scored a good grade no thanks to her. Extremely rude and doesn't like to answer questions. The course is easy, but she makes it unnecessarily hard for students. If u can, take this with Elise Critoph instead and thank me later.
she explains the course very clearly but when it comes to her tests, she asks too many questions, and her questions are tricky so the best advice is to study harder for your exams.
I personally would not take this class. Lectures were long and boring, some of the later questions on exams were hard just for the sake of being hard, & not relevant to what we learned in class. All tests were at 8:30 on Saturday instead of later in the day. Makes you buy a $100 assignment service instead of posting the assignments on Brightspace.
So many mistakes in the tests and the practices on top of coming across as very patronizing. Fortunately you don't have to deal with her directly to go through with the course.
If you care about your GPA, RUN! She makes her exams unnecessarily hard. I'm not sure why she makes a first-year course harder than it's supposed to be. Before taking the class, I read her reviews and all of them are true. I was varying of her exams but even if you prepare, chances are that you will still not be able to do the long answers.
So many mistakes in the tests and practices to go along with her patronizing demeanour. Fortunately you can do well in the course without directly dealing with her.
Has absolutely no sympathy for her students. Would not recommend taking a class with this professor. She is extremely unhelpful.
what everyone is saying is 100% correct. refuses to help you, sends back snarky and rude emails and doesn't care about your well being whatsoever. her tests are unnecessarily hard (she's basically praying on ur downfall) and even tho the class was supposed to be in person, EVERYTHING is online. don't even know how she's allowed to keep teaching
Difficult course. Although the material is understandable, wont help in the exam because they make it very hard for no reason. Assignments help to boost the mark as long as they are all completed.
RIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
The lectures hardly talk about the math side of the course so DEFINITELY go to the tutorials
The midterms were awful. The Final was so bad you most likely will not be able to finish. Her lectures are organized in a great way and are easy to follow along, and they are short and concise. If it is with Gordon Lenjosek though, don't take it.
Blanco-Perez was organized and explained things well and gave MANY examples during each lecture so that we really understood the material. Course was online with prerecorded lectures and split with another prof (Lenjosek). Practice exams and assignments were way easier than the actual exams. Just watch the lectures and you will be fine.
This class was an in-person class, however she only recorded lectures weekly and then had tutorials done by her TA so I never even saw her. The topics needed to be discussed more in depth and the exams were all quite difficult and needed more time than what was given. This was my lowest mark for the whole term by far.
This online course was well structured and organized and this prof explains concepts in detail and provides simple examples to explain them. However, the midterms and final were unnecessarily difficult, not created to maximize student success. Had to email her several times to be able to review my graded exams. Did not enjoy this course overall.
Signed up for in person, and got online prerecorded lectures from her and another prof. Her lectures were much easier to follow and learn from compared to the other prof. She did speed through teaching, and the TA's taught much more practical stuff in comparison. Decent prof. Exams were iffy.
Course content and expectations are very clear. If you listen to her, and go to her office hours you will get a good grade. Very nice person as well, don' listen to the other comments.
Class was online, but DGDs were in person. I didn't watch most lectures or attend the DGDs; I just read the textbook and received a decent grade. From the lectures I watched, she seemed friendly enough and willing to help out students, but the midterms and final were a lot more difficult than the weekly tests.
The prof isn't a bad teacher per se, but her exams did NOT reflect her pre-recorded lectures. This was my toughest class simply because I never knew what to expect with the exams. She doesn't really do any work, just has a bunch of lectures posted from 2021 and we use an automated assignment app. The tutorials, in my opinion, weren't enough.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Very tough graders. There are too many questions that cannot be completed in the time given. Take any other teacher if possible. Only thing that kept my mark up were the assignments.
Her recorded lessons are incredibly boring and a slog to get through. Despite being given an hour and a half on the schedule for lessons she will often post lessons that are 3 hours long or more. She provides very little information during these lessons and you should read the textbook to save time and get more information
better than gordon, but still could be better.
better than the other professor who also taught this class, hard markers, and long lectures weekly.
Not suitable for busy professionals. Missing classes results in a 10% grade penalty, divided between practice and attendance. There's only one practice exam per semester(deceiving). Must complete in-class exercises within 20min - challenging for those with ADHD or who struggle under pressure. For the st time, I'm on the verge of failing the course.
Never gave answers to assignments/practices/exams unless you dropped in during office hours and asked her. Seemed caring in class but rude and arrogant when answering questions, also she loved to deduct points for ridiculous reasons even when I got the correct answers. Her teaching is fine, but I just dislike her attitudes towards students.
Mildly better lectures than Gordo but unless you have to I would suggest staying away from any of her courses.
Like the others pointed out, she's slightly better than "Gordock the Destroyer", but still bad. Also, the TA is literally useless when it comes to answering questions. What chapters of the midterm cover? -Read the syllabus. How do I access the tutorials? -Read the syllabus. No rizz? -Read the syllabus.
Disorganized with sloppy lectures, talks forever but never says anything so it's very difficult to sit through the presentations. The order this course is organized in feels like it was chosen at random with important background info being taught in later chapters. Tests are hard and not well written plus three of them are worth 80% of your grade.
She is a very tough grader but she does say this beforehand. On exams, she likes clearly written steps and formulas for solutions. Even if it seems easy like calculating the mean you must still write out the proper formula add units etc or you will literally get a zero. She doesn't give solutions online so office hours and the textbook are a must
Mid prof, final grade was 84.2%, sent an email asking if there was anyways i could get up to an 85% (for gpa purposes) and she completely shot me down. Kinda brutal but whatever, definitely worst profs out there
Despite what everyone says about her, I genuinely enjoyed Professor Blanco-Perez's style of teaching. She made all the difficult concepts easy to understand, and it was clear that she truly cares about her students in the way she patiently responds to any questions they have, no matter how many times she needs to repeat herself. Highly recommend.
Virtual exams were a breeze and the assignments were relatively simple
Don't listen to the bad reviews, her class content is hard and she does great by teaching this tough content. She is not intimidating and always answers questions with helpful answers. Just go to class and pay attention.
Prof Cristina truly made me realize how incompetent I am. This class has been an awakening and I'm not sure if I will recover. 10/10 lectures, she made me laugh numerous times and I respect her greatly. Everyone does. She is very caring and as a crim major she helped me get through this course despite my clear inability to perform the mathematics.
Where do I even start? She is such a bad prof you barely understand what she says, her lectures are useless, her grading is so exam heavy and she makes her exams way too hard. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! YOUR GPA WILL THANK ME.
Professor Blanco-Perez is not the prof for you if you are not willing to push yourself to do the best you can. Do not assume you will get an A+ just by attending lectures. It is crucial to do all of the textbook questions + going to office hours never hurts. She is nothing if not fair and I respect her for the standards she holds her students to.
This class was mandatory for me so if not I would have not taken it. This professor does explain well and uses good examples but her exams are not worded the way she teaches making them more difficult than needed. As an introductory level economics class it should be way more straight forward and not so formula heavy. She is an ok prof overall.
if anyone has the chance to take David or anyone else (other than Gordock), these reviews should give you a pretty clear answer on who to take econ with. She isn't 2/5 for no reason.
The Prof is knowledgeable, but her teaching is unclear. Despite attending class, reading the textbook, and doing practice problems,I struggled. Her rushed lectures and inaccurate math were unhelpful. The online assignments were useful. Exams are tough and dont align with practice, but office hours help. I wouldnt take this class unless I had to.
She is one of the worst profs out there stay away if you can.
The greatest scam artist of our generation. Somehow, tricked everyone into becoming an actual professor.
You learn absolutely nothing from any of her lectures. If anything she makes the concepts harder. If you are capable of watching videos and learning on your own I would heavily suggest skipping all her lectures, they generally hold 0 value. If you even willingly take her class you're a fool. The only reason u should be cuz other classes are full.
I don't understand the Cristina hate, if you show up to class and take basic notes it's pretty easy to be successful. I took this class as a Telfer student so if you need a manageable second year elective and you're willing to attend almost every class you'll be fine.
SHE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS.
Anyone who says she is a good professor is being paid by her. Her lectures are so boring with her just reading off the slides for 1 hour. Her exams are poorly written with the math questions being very hard for no reason. Never take her.
Very helpful lectures, very good at explaining. Connect exercises are helpful to understand concepts but those type of questions will not be on the midterms or exams. Midterms were fairly challenging. Exam was very difficult.
Professor Perez is a good person. She is a warm professor. She's always here to help students. I think she has her ability to illustrate knowledge clearly. Her exams are a little difficult but her quizs can be easier so that can improve our grade.
Don't need to attend any lectures, just understand what each assignment is talking about to get a good grade at the end of the semester. If you're just looking for a nice grade don't care if you learn something, choose her.
Cristina gets way too much hate imo. Her lectures aren't mandatory and all the material is posted.. so just stay home and take notes yourself. If you have any questions, she has discussion groups on Brightspace. Her exams are a bit of a curveball sometimes, but they are not impossible by any means. She's very chill and offers lots of office hours.
Ima be real, she is not a bad prof but she expects you to really put in time to study the material. If your goal is to have an A or above, you really gotta attend all lectures, read the tb, write notes and UNDERSTAND. Also there will be many graphs and MATH. It is basic math but you really need to know the material. Mts are doable but finals hard.
She is ok, my biggest criticism is that she is not very good and explaining the problems with graphs or math. Her writing is all over the place and its confusing. Constantly erasing/changing answers. Also a little rude and tries to trick you with multiple choice questions through the wording. Practice exams are nothing at all like the real one.
You will do good in this class if you are genuinely interested in the topic of the economics. Cristina is a nice prof and she is really passionate about economics, due to which she expects everyone else to be as well. It's not a hard class but so much to keep up with. U REALLY GOTTA PUT IN EFFORT. Overall, pick her if ur studious or don't.
Save ur money, drop her
She is a great professor and explains the material with a lot of graphs and giving everyday examples. To do well in this course you need to understand the material, not memorise it. Overall would totally recommend her if you attend the lectures.
The homework was easy enough but she provided barely any resources besides her slides which she went over in class. Then the midterms and exam have different types of questions then the homework which makes it difficult.
this prof isn't it, shes definitely the worst out of all the eco profs. You can barely understand her in class, writing all over the place, and over complicates concepts. IMO if you HAVE to choose her, read the textbook and look over the slides, even then that probably wont help much. The ta's were horrible markers
She's basically a walking red flag. Online videos have terrible audio quality (cant use headphones to listen), camera and lockdown browser (the most outdated software out there) required for the assignments. There's not anything wrong with that but you can tell she would rather students do mediocre with work then good.
I like her. she is a good professor and explained each concept clearly. but this course is not easy you really should take a lot time on it if you want a good grade
Best ECO prof tbh. If ppl say the opposite, dont listen! She explains the concepts clearly, uses good examples, and always makes sure everybody acc understands even if she has to explain it again. Connect was useful but expensive. The midterms were just application of the concepts learnt so it was ight. And the final exam was decent if u studied.
Anyone who says Cristina is a good prof is the most obnoxious people you will ever meet. Her ratings aren't this low cause people are "hating on her", shes simply a terrible prof. Simple as. Stay far away from her and your GPA and mental health will thank you. Her and Gordon are two sides of the same yk what...
She doesn't consider her students' needs to pass, making her exams unnecessarily difficult. Half the time, it's hard to understand what she's saying, which only makes the material more confusing. And no matter how much you study—even 24/7—it still wouldn't be enough to do well on her exams.
Too many quizzes. Everything was multiple choice. The quizzes would take an hour without the reading portion.
Everyone who says she's bad is just mad about their grades. She teaches just fine, she seems to try which is what matters and she's overall pretty good. Ignore bad reviews, if you pay attention she's perfectly fine. Would get bonus points if she was willing to work with students (she warned she is not gonna negotiate).
RUN. NEVER choose this professor's lesson. This professor is so conceited, arrogant and irresponsible. First, the knowledge of this class is very simple in nature, but in her class, you will experience a leap of faith.Second, the always slow email response and poor example questions.Third, her rules are more important than her knowledge.
She's terrible. attended her class both online and in person. Make sure to write down everything and keep up with her pace if you are seeing her in person. You have to go over the lessons in your spare time if you want to earn a good grade. There aren't many helpful eco teachers.
She's not the best prof out there. Make sure to write down everything and keep up with her pace if you are seeing her in person. You have to go over the lessons in your spare time if you want to earn a good grade. Make sure to do her assignments for a grade boost! She expects more than she gives for us. Would recommend other profs over her.
professor is nice and lectures are clear. Exams are very difficult. Think twice before taking.
Had a concussion this semester, which caused me to miss a midterm and a couple of assignments, and I told her at the very end of this semester. Just hearing this, she showed a lot of concern and gave me an extra opportunity to redo assignments, and I didn't have to ask at all. As of now, I have an A, and I have the final next week.
Horrible prof. The fact she can barely be understood through her thick accent worsens her monotonous, unbelievably boring lectures. Uses McGraw Hill Connect–online assignments and/or textbook which you HAVE to pay for ($99–$181.50) as the online assignments make up %20 of your final grade–as she of course has no other way to give out assignments.
Overall, I found the class material to be difficult, but she provided many opportunities for me to excel. She gives out many assignments as well as practice ones so, as long as you keep up with the material, you'll do fine. She does practice in class and is generally easy to reach out to; however, I did find her pacing was fast in her lectures.
She is super friendly and will probably make you laugh at some point. Lectures go at a very fast pace
The course on its own isn't too difficult, however this prof is genuinely not worth your money. Impossible to reach and is very impolite. In terms of the course itself, her teaching is mediocre so if you want to do well you should learn the content yourself.
