Professor Espinoza is an amazing teacher. At first you do need to get used to his accent but it really isn't hard to understand. He gives papers a lot so be prepared to write. With his papers he wants everything backed up with documents (he gives you the documents) if you can't back it up then to him your argument is invalid. Pretty easy class.
Professor Espinoza is a really cool guy! He does have an accent that is a little tough to understand, and his hand writing is also sometimes difficult to read, but besides that he is great. He gives no tests or quizzes, and the textbook was not required. He only gives essays and provides the evidence (documents) for you. Overall an easy class.
Before the end of the semester I had already registered for Professor Espinoza's HIS 222 class in the spring. The first 15 minutes of every class are devoted to a quick recap of the last class. His accent is what it is, but that detracts nothing from his uncanny teaching ability. Take his class, is this clear?
Professor Espinoza is great. At times he can be a little hard to understand, but he will repeat anything that is asked. This class was all papers. 3 papers and a final paper. He goes over what is required, and gives you enough time to complete the assignment. He also lets you give him drafts and he will go over them with you in detail.
Professor Espinoza is really hard to understand due to his accent. Corrections on his papers are close to impossible to read. in addition to you have to use his "documents" to prove arguments in your papers, so in other words you could have done the best research possible through databases ect. but without his papers you will not get good grades.
I took this class my first semester of college. He does have a heavy accent, however he knows his stuff. his class is so easy and laidback. Almost no homework. He has 4 papers including the final. He gives you all the documents to write the papers. You MUST use the documents if you want a good grade. Just use all his documents and cite them.
Interesting professor, assigns long papers. If you want to take him, take his class during the fall or spring semester
Really hard to understand him and his course. I did well in the class but Would not recommend taking.
Very hard to understand. Assigns many papers. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DO NOT ENJOY PAPERS. I did not understand the purpose of writing papers for a history class constantly if he could not even spell. I strongly advise you not to take him. He is a very nice professor, however I do not agree with his ways of teaching. Doesnt require textbook.
He is very helpful and very nice. His accent is somewhat clear. DO! his papers they are a huge part of the grade. He is awesome and inspirational. Take him just pay attention!!
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. I came onto rate my professor, saw a few good reviews, and thought hey he can't be that bad.. he doesn't assign tests or quizzes. Only have 4/5 papers but a lot of work comes w each. HE DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE. HIS LECTURES ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE. Takes his class VERYYY seriously. No point.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Half of the time, you can't understand what he is saying. His hand writing is terrible. Notes are all over the place. He assigns papers that have nothing to do with what you are learning about. the final is oral. He gives you a review for the final but doesn't ask you anything from it. Worst professor I've ever had a MCC.
At first his accent may scare you but he is very easy to understand. He lectures and gives readings relating to the lectures. If you listen in class, do the readings, and understand how they are connected you will do great. The final is an oral and if you know your stuff you will be fine. Great teacher and class. Taking him again next semester.
His accent has never been a problem during his class, but his lectures were not delivered in a way that kept them interesting so it was hard to pay attention sometimes, as I could only stare at the clock, even as a History major. His class is fairly easy as long as you put effort into all the papers he will assign. Average professor in my opinion
among the worst professors at MCC he does have quite the knowledge but does not know how to distribute it amongst students . He does not know how to teach. Oral Final Exam worth 30% of your grade and four papers that are meaningless
Easy class. For the Fall 2015 semester, he gave 4 essays, provides all docs for you, and the final was an oral one. One on one, not as bad as you'd think. You will take a lot of notes, he has an accent, but will slow down and repeat himself if you ask. Easy professor, clarify yourself in essays and take good notes and you'll do fine. No textbook!!
Doesn't seem interested in class
He is the worse professor I've ever had, he doesn't help, you can't understand him and he grades harder than any other class I've had. He tells you he only checks his email from 7 to 3 everyday and never on weekends. He is just here for his job and doesn't care about students success.
He does have a heavy spanish accent but its not too difficult to understand. he is very knowledgeable but he can sometimes get off topic during class. he assigns about 4 papers per semester but provides all the documents and information for them . if you pay attention, come to class, and ask questions you should have no problem passing.
Honestly- the most unfair and unreasonable professor here at MCC. His instructions are never clear and if you don't know what to do (which you don't) he automatically gives you a D. This is not helpful. He doesn't use a textbook but says he is the class textbook- the problem is that you can't understand him. I liked history before this class.
His lectures were long, but effective. Gave us two papers and both an oral midterm and final, with the option of doing a third paper for extra credit. Has a thick accent and sloppy handwriting but is more than willing to clarify if you ask him. Not a class you can put minimal effort into and pass, don't take his class if you're not willing to work.
His accent was hard to understand and his writing on the board was sloppy so you couldn't understand what he was saying or writing. His exams you gave orally and you can't understand what he's asking. No homework or in class tests. If your looking for an easy A to fit all credits , don't take this one
This professor doesn't get enough credit. Oral midterm and final isn't hard. Just review the questions long as u comprehend the question you will be fine. The essays,he gives you the documents, supply evidence, why it relates too the topic. his hand writing is bad. But he encourages u to say u can't read it. U can't be lazy and expect too pass.
It's a college class and if yall expect to get an easy grade, it won't happen with this professor. He's really nice, but he wants you to put an effort. He does have an accent, but you can understand him and he's always willing to repeat himself 9 times if necessary. The oral exams are not even hard. If you're responsible, you'll pass his class.
He's an awesome professor, and he really cares about the courses he teaches. His accent might be difficult to understand at first, but he is more than willing to clarify himself if you ask. His essays may be a bit confusing, but if you make an effort to ask him for any needed clarification, it should be no problem! :-)
Espinoza is a really great professor. Lectures may get a little boring, but the class is easy. There's only 2 papers, the midterm and a final. As long as you pay attention to detail and read the assigned homework, this class is an easy A.
Terrible learning xperience. Only 4 grades used for final grade. Only lectures, seldom asks others thoughts on subject. Very difficult to o understand due to heavy accent and sloppy handwriting. Learned very little. Do not recommend.
The best professor ever! He explains everything clearly. Students can ask questions; he is very very patient and caring. I am not a history major but he made me love history and that is something that I appreciate. I would definitely take him again.
I had taken this class during my first semester at Middlesex. Professor Espinoza harassed me with threats because he claimed I forged a doctor's note, as well as a prescription, and harassed my doctor as well. I complained to the school and of course they did nothing. He threatened to fail me, but still gave me a B. Idk, but he was TERRIBLE.
Professor Espinoza is excellent. I fell in love with History. He is very smart and knows the subject very well. He loves to teach and he is always willing to help you. He is by far the best history professor you can get at MCC. TAKE HIM!!!
This professor can not teach at all. He is passionate about his subject and knows it well but lacks the empathy of connecting with students. I found him to be arrogant and difficult to understand. His hand writing is also terrible, you can barely read what is on the board. There is an oral mid term that has nothing to do with what is on the review.
Terrible, not an effective teacher at all. Do NOT TAKE this class, you will regret it!!!
I will admit he knows his history, but anyone can be a master at a subject, you need to know how to teach before you can be put in a classroom. No text book, online sources, long boring lectures with a heavy accent and hard to read handwriting, no in class tests, only oral ones which were ridiculously hard. Don't bother taking him, I had to drop.
Professor Wulch is an amazing, masterful, intelligent man. He does have sloppy handwriting, however, open to clarify. His teachings are philosophical and expects everyone to analyze and interconnect details. A wholesome experience, to say the least. His accent may be heavy, but, it's not unbearable. Study and write coherent papers and you'll pass.
He is passionate about his job and really loves what hes doing. He continuously reminds his students how being a teacher is the best job in the world. Overall he is a tough grader when it comes to essays but if you write a draft a head of time you will get a better grade. Oral exams are easy if you study!!!
This professor is a nice man. Grading can be tough but he is Very passionate about this subject. There are no textbooks used. Gives all in class notes, but he writes chicken scratch. Notes can be a little hard to understand along with his heavy accent which made it hard to understand his lectures. Doesn't except late papers or doctors notes.
I would suggest taking someone else if you tend to skip class or not pay attention. If i would have shown up more often. I probably would have recieved a better grade.
This professor knows his stuff, hes a hard grader and not willing to listen to students advice. We had an essay and we had to come up with the whole essay in an hour then hand it in to be grade and it had to be perfect and he would say hes preparing us for other classes and also says to not google things b/c then well be taken over by machines
Dr. Espinoza is highly intelligent. If you are attending lectures and writing notes there should be no problems. He gives essays which are not difficult if you've read your sources and taken good notes. Everything he tests you on is in the notes he writes on the board. Old school kind of professor with his lectures. You'll learn a lot.
The way he teaches isnt something Im use to tbh and the way he writes is messy but if you ask him what he wrote hell tell you. I personally couldnt take it that classes was horrible take someone else. I dropped out
For students who failed his class but or have to still retake history take professor Jordan rickards for us history 1 and 2 hes actually a normal good professor and he actually makes sure all his students do well I honestly dont know why Professor Espinoza was every highered by middlesex its such a shame take Rickards
Dr. Espinoza a great professor who knows his subject. His accent and handwriting can be a challenge. But he is aware if this and will clarify anything IF YOU ASK. A few essays that aren't terribly difficult as long as you take good notes and pay attention. Clarifies his intent of essays after your draft to direct you. He does a good job.
Espinoza is definitely the best professor that Ive ever had. Before I took his class, I hated history, but he made me love it. Hes extremely knowledgeable and is very clear about what he wants from his students. Gives little homework, and tells you exactly what will be on tests and essays. Hes always more than willing to stay back and help
He overall Isnt a bad professor comparing to the others one that I have had. Its mostly his way of grading that really puts down a lot of students! He grades you on 4 things and if you mess up on those up your screwed! He does grade the paper very harshly. Make sure to study for the midterms since its interview based and for the final study!!!
Hes a nice person just a really bad professor like I almost hated the fact that I had to drop his class cause hes so kind
I am really surprised by the ratings because he really is a good teacher. He might give off a sense of tough expectations on the first day of class, but he really is fair with the overall class. All you need to do is just follow along, do the papers, and study when necessary. It might be nerve racking at times, but its not as bad as they all say.
This guy is awful beware of him and do not take him if you can avoid him do it he gives you 90 minutes to write a rough draft for your papers He want you to explain things his way even if you know the material if you dont explain it his way youre wrong Very rude to students and very hard on grading dont take HIM
He isn't a bad professor, you just have to pay attention and actually show up to class. He's actually quite helpful too.
He does have an heavy accent but he is very easy to follow and is always willing to repeat and explain clearly. Only a few essays based on the notes in class and he literally gives you the answers to the midterm and final and allows you to use a flashcard as well. I barely went to his class but got the notes and it was a breeze.
I never liked history. But professor Espinoza made history really easy for me to understand. He is amazing and supportive professor.
This is my second semester in college and he is horrible doesn't care if you fail or pass he doesn't care. He gave us for this semester if it was class Lectures written on board, Assignment outline, rough draft ,final draft midterm exam and final ex . I went to tutoring and he os a good tutoring I have but the professor was picky and made no sense.
If you are a history major and are looking to go to a 4 year universities, you MUST take him as he literally prepares you for the future. There are a lot to say about Professor Espinoza but the the one thing I will write here is he is extremely sweet and will help you in anyway he possibly can.
I wouldn't recommend taking him, it was a struggle trying to pass his class.
Professor Espinoza is probably the best professor I had for honors class, he may seem to be uptight but he is a gem of a person. Take him!
Honors class with Espinoza is one of the best at MCC, he really helps you and sets easy guidelines. Take him!!!!!
Ignore all the bad ratings, he truly is one of the best professor for US History II classes
Not so good at grading.
Best Honors Prof at MCC! People need to simply do the work send him a draft for a quick proofread and boom you will get an A. He ensures that you get an A in class by giving you comment when you approach him before the deadline
Honors at Middlesex was something I experienced for the first time and I took Prof. Espinoza for US II Honors and it was the best class I ever took. He sets everything so well that one will be able to get an "A" in his class. Our class had an additional project component and he made it a breeze to finish that. I learnt a lot in his class.
People seem to either love him or hate him as you can see by the mixed reviews. It didn't really feel like an Honors course because I had the same amount of work in one my classes in high school. But he's generally a nice man and if you have a question he'll get back to you.
Cristobal was amazing. I enjoyed learning from him and he knows his US History very well. A true inspiration to the young generation he is guiding today. I would take his class over again if I could.
He's ok. He doesn't use a textbook and the lectures are all in his head. I'm not complaining because the course is pretty easy, but I'm not sure if we're covering everything we're supposed to be covering in US History.
He is honestly a good-ish person because he is passionate but at the same time, he is extremely rigid with everything. One mistake and you are blacklisted in his mind forever and have to work extra hard to prove that you are worth something. The forums are long but fair because you have 2 weeks to do a 6-page paper for the whole semester.
Does not respond to emails sent to him and does not give any feedback on assignments to improve on the next one. This course brought my GPA down and I couldn't even fix that since he never responded or gave feedback to help me change my responses to the questions.
Unless you seriously love writing essays, do not take this class. Essays were the only thing he graded us on. He's knowledgeable and genuinely wants the best for his students, but he is very rigid. He does not give extensions whatsoever. However, if you send him a draft before the due date, he'll give you comments on what to improve.
Really great and interesting lectures. The class was graded on essays (usually 6 but my class only had to do 4 because he was out for 1 week). I am not the best writer but he was a gentle grader and if you submit the essay before the due date, he will proof read it and give it back to you to fix for a guaranteed A. Great prof, knows his stuff!
I graduated both MCC and Rutgers, but I came back here to say, this professor claimed I forged documents of me being admitted into a psych facility. I had to explain to him that I attempted suicide and he didnt believe me, my doctor called him, he didnt believe my doctor either? Very ridiculous. This was in 2016 Fall.
Professor Espinoza expects much from his students at the community college level, but I believe that his standard of work prepared me well for what University professors expect. His class difficulty is certainly a step up from most of the professors at Middlesex. However, you will get in what you get out of Espinoza's class; he's very knowledgable.
I do not suggest taking this class with this professor, he was very strict on what he wanted and has many typos in his work and reading lectures he posts. He is hard to understand, as I believe he speaks a different language as his first language. Avoid at all costs.
Drop his class before its too late, dont even waste your time. Grading criteria is not clear and the discussions are way too much.
assignments made no sense as to what he wanted from you. you would write something that you think is perfect than 3 week later he responds with 2 paragraphs saying it has nothing to do with the prompt. never responds to emails, unnecessary amount of writing with extreme little material to write on and grading made no sense
The professor is knowledgeable, but he acts unprofessional and has almost zero boundaries. He berated a classmate for needing time off to care for her mother, and asked for proof that she was sick. By the end almost half the class had disappeared. He'll make you think that you need to take his class but there are better professors for honors.
Horrible. Avoid him at all costs.
Professor Espinoza is great! There are a lot of essays for his class, but he allows you to submit drafts and he provides feedback. There is also no textbook so the lectures will be you just taking notes on what he writes on the board. He is super nice and will help you if you need it.
AVOIDDDD I REPEAT AVOIDDDDDDDD.
Avoid at all costs
Professor Espinoza is by far my favorite professor, he is very understanding and is willing to work with students. This class deals with essays, the essays are based on the handed out sources given to all students. For the essays, analysis of the quote in reference to your idea is key. Most essays allow students creative writing.
this professor makes zero sense when grading essays. terrible grader. invades personal boundaries by calling people out unnecessarily during lectures. directions are not clear.
lots of paper and work for the class. he was unclear with assignments and graded harshly. keep all the handouts he gives and pay attention if you take him. definitely take advantage of him allowing you to submit a draft of your papers before turning it in, it helped a lot but make sure everything is on time.
Fascinating, digestible lectures that make history much more magical and conceptual. If you're an honors student, there are only 3 (easy) papers and an oral history interview that'll qualify you for a local internship. Outside of class, super thoughtful, community-focused, and accessible. A little wacky and convicted, but he has the best intentions
see their own time as a privilege and doesn't respect the time of their students. Classes consist of reading handouts and writing essays. 35% of grade was a field trip/project. 2 days we had a rushed trip to East Jersey old town village. First trip we had busses thankfully. Second we had to get out own transportation. Do not take.
I have no words really. just awful.
Professor was unprofessional and dismissive of students' learning preferences, including the use of AI and other professors' methods. Often made the class environment uncomfortable and difficult to engage in. Would not recommend taking this course.
Professor demonstrates poor professionalism and dismisses students' learning preferences. Given his approach and classroom demeanor, it raises concerns about his suitability for a tenured position. Not recommended.
Teaching style is rigid, dismissive, and at times discouraging. Students may struggle to engage or feel respected. This raises questions about his effectiveness as a tenured faculty member.
Course is extremely challenging, and essay questions are sometimes poorly aligned with the syllabus, making it hard for students to focus on relevant material.
Students face challenging assignments that often feel disconnected from US history objectives, which may affect understanding and engagement.
Assignments are difficult to follow and occasionally do not reflect the intended US history topics, leading to frustration and uncertainty about grading criteria.
Professor sets very high expectations, but assignments often lack clear connection to US history. This creates a confusing and frustrating learning experience.
Awful semester in his class. Only grades are 4 essays and a final project. The essay questions are horribly phrased and completely unclear resulting in him giving bad grades and only negative feedback which can be extremely unmotivating as a student. He is extremely unhelpful when it comes to missing class WITH a valid excuse.
It's pretty straightforward. 4-5 essays, and 1 final project. Specific on how essays should be written but he lets you know the format well. MAKE SURE to take notes and participate because there is no textbook! if you just want an A, participate in class, take good notes, follow his essay format, and ask him for feedback 2+ days beforehand.
