I'm really enjoying her class. She doesn't believe in high stakes testing, so we have a bunch of different types of assignments that make up our grade. Lots of interesting debates and she is really funny and sweet. You can tell she enjoys teaching and class is always interesting. Lots of groupwork and games and stuff.
If you have never liked history- you will w her . She teaches in ways that really make you want to learn . Lots of laughing. Lots of good stuff. Im taking her again!
THERE ARE NO TESTS! You will have homework assignments due once or twice a week but its EASY to pass this class. The reading is very easy and a lot of your homework is from movies! I love her style of teaching and Mrs. Moore actually cares that you do well.
I really enjoyed her class. She is very helpful and knowledgeable and has a lot of tips for college in general. She gives homework quizzes basically everyday. They are not difficult.
If you like a lot of work, a lot of doing nothing beside listening to other peoples idiotic rants in class take her. If you take this class you do all the learning outside of it better off taking an online course then this one. WEEKLY TESTS WITH 1-2 outside of class lecture , 1-5 PowerPoint a week, a history book, and an non-coursework related book
Very caring and passionate teacher, had fun learning a lot of things, she makes history really fun and does a great job debunking a lot of "facts" about history. she is one of the best teachers i'v ever had.
Super easy. All quizzes and tests are online and she gives a lot of extra credit. We had a food final
Such a gem. Normally I hate history but her class was different. I learned about history and modern issues in a fun way. She offers multiple different types of HW quizzes, so you pick what works best for you. Very down to earth. Has a good heart. Really enthusiastic about history.
Amazing teacher! Print off your HW quizzes. They are good notes! Do your HW and show up. Its really simple
She will make you think of things differently. Took class in the summer totally doable. Be ready to have homework due every class, if you don't do your homework, you won't pass. I needed the book for some homework, it was worth renting.
I really enjoyed taking this class over the summer. Crystal is an amazing teacher and tries to make class enjoyable. I normally do not enjoy history, but it was actually interesting in her class. There is a decent amount of work outside of class, but it is not hard. I highly recommend choosing Crystal if you can't decide on a professor.
Crystal is an amazing teacher and really cares about her students. She makes all of the assignments interactive and I found myself really enjoying this subject when history has never been a favorite of mine. Definitely will take classes she offers again if I get the chance
She told us two months before course ended she didn't want to teach anymore. She said she will make us teach ourselves. She has not given a lecture or lesson. Homework consisted of watched 2 and a half hour lectures and movies when we would play games and waste time in class. I would avoid this course if possible.
I love her class set up with what she calls a flip classroom. Learned more in this class than I have ever before. We did group projects the last 2 weeks but didn't have to meet outside, so it was no biggie. She is always in her office to talk if you need help and we did some fun volunteer work with her. Lots of homework though!
This is absolutely the best History teacher ever! I have never made above a D in History! I actually learned all the things that I didn't learn before. Crystal is a kind and wonderful teacher. If you do your homework and participate, you will do great. I would take any class Crystal Moore teaches. She has made me like History!
Crystal Moore's teaching method, combined with her wonderful personality, makes for an incredible learning experience. She goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure every student feels included, and that no question is left unanswered. My only regret is that my degree doesn't require another history class. Love you Crystal!
There are a lot of opportunities to pass this class, while this is NOT an online course, 90% of the homework and assignments are accessed through blackboard. If you dont have access to a computer i wouldnt take this class. HW consist of lecture videos, while we played review games and group work in class. Weekly quizzes are far better than test!
I had a very good experience in this class! Also, there are no exams, which is a huge plus! Ms Moore is very kind and you'll get the grade you aim for if you participate and do the work.
Crystal was probably the best history teacher I've had in a long time! She really cares about her students, and will listen and talk to you. Crystal is a real Gem, and anyone who doesn't take her class is really missing out! 10/10 WOULD recommend!
Crystal is a great professor, she just provides ridiculous amounts of homework every class session. The classroom ins't lecture based, but more class oriented which I liked. Not boring at all, but the workload is a lot so it's easy to fall behind. She is very caring and nice.
Her women's history class is life changing!!! I have taken 4 classes with her now and loved them all, but it was by far my favorite. I liked the textbook enough that I bought an extra for a friend's Christmas gift. This is a must take class.
History is one of my worst subjects and Professor Moore made me enjoy the class. Easily the best teacher at Maple Woods. Caring, helpful, and just overall great person. TAKE HER CLASS! You will not regret it.
Words can't express just how incredible Professor Moore is. She was always respectful but she wasn't afraid to be herself in her classes. She made her information easy to understand and actually explained why we need to know each of the topics in history. She has experience and education. I've taken two of her classes and I wish I could take more!
Wish I wouldve taken all my history classes with her
Crystal knows so much about history. The class was always really engaging and she always helpful if you didn't understand the information. I took 3 history classes with her and I loved every class. There is a lot of homework, but that's expected since this is a college course. If you do all the homework and pay attention in class you will get an A.
An absolute angel. She is the best prof I've had. Fun, interesting, great lecturer. Gorgeous. I would marry her if she let me. I've never met such a sweet lady.
I took this class online during summer and everything was straightforward and followed the schedule. Chapter reading/quiz every week. Extra credit was available at the end of the semester. Not challenging in anyway, but be prepared to read and know the material, quiz answers can be a little tricky.
Chill teacher, genuinely wants you to do well, sweetheart
There are plenty of dussion boards that you have to watch video/read and complete. Also you have to participate in group feedbacks. Great history 120 teacher, making the class very fun to take. She's open to any questions you have and willing to go the extra mile to help you understand. Her work is not hard but you have to put work into it!!
Prof Moore was such a good teacher! I am not one for history so I typically have a hard time retaining material. Class is very well laid out, read chapter, take chapter quiz (10 questions) and after 4 chapters you take a unit quiz (30 questions). Repeat 4 times. Theres 3 DB posts & 2 videos that need reviewed. Easy A if you just read & use quizlet!
Overall, I could have done without the discussion boards and word counts but this course was an easy A. Lots of reading and writing.
I took this class online (covid) and it's mostly videos and quizzes for attendance. There's not a textbook, but still a lot of material to memorize. You have to read a novel. I had to withdraw because she grades her exams very hard, it's 5 essay questions based off one word (ex: mesopotamia). She doesn't really post slides, just websites/articles
I wish I could give a 0. This was the WORST history class I ever had to take. Shes not clear on what her expectations are. She would give my papers 70% and I would put the exact same material on my Midterm and Final essays and she would give me an A.
Take it if you love busy work and YouTube. No text book, no feedback on exams, and only meets once a week, or not at all. Classmates were struggling because early on there was mass emails of no extra credit and maybe half the class got 0 for plagiarizing on an exam, the tests even had to be modified. Worst class yet. Rather lazy style of teaching.
I can't believe these reviews. Crystal is amazing! She is funny and fair and goes out of her way to help everyone. Most work comes from lectures she uploads to Youtube and then she does review lectures live once a week. Like half our class got dinged for plagiarized exams and she made a new one we get to take to replace a low exam grade at the end
Easy enough. 4 exams, weekly homework quizzes, no attendance grade. She seems very nice and emails alot. Grades fast. Textbook is a free online one and primary source reader you buy. Dont slack on homework. It is worth lots. Gives 2 exam types so you get to choose each time essay or multiple choice.
Crystal is easy to communicate with she will respond in a fair amount of time. You have weekly homework quizzes. 5 question 10 minute timed quiz every week over the material learned, pay attention to the lectures. 4 exams throughout the semester. Do not use google, use the material you learn from Crystal, or you will receive a 0 on the assignment.
She clearly cares about the subject material and that shows in every inch of this course. She approaches history from many different and new angles, the textbook we were assigned was about different drinks defining our history. This is not a names and dates type of history prof.
I am not great at history especially Western Civ. I took this online as an 8 week class and there was just a lot of reading and homework. She also was a very tough grader and just was hard to work with. It was nothing against her I think it was just the course itself for me.
Due to Covid I didn't meet Crystal but I'm sure she is a nice person from messaging her. Lots of quizzes as there is one for each chapter in the textbook. Lots of reading from the textbook, no lectures. Discussion boards seemed very unnecessary. Although it is easy to find all the class's material and due dates as the course itself was organized.
LOVE THIS TEACHER!! Easy class, open note tests, and makes it fun. You can tell she really cares about history and her students.
Best prof I have taken at Maple Woods. She never white washes history and treats everyone w great respect. I always feel like she actually enjoys being in class even though we are her 3rd class of the day and I can tell she is a bit tired by then. Very available for meetings too.
Very nice, not too hard of a class. My only issue is that if you accidentally miss an assignment, she wouldn't let me make it up. So I was stuck with a few 0's. So just make sure you're on top of that.
I only had Moore online, so I cannot vouch for in person. My online experience was great, and I would definitely have her again. A lot of essays, but the word count is usually only around 500. A bit of a tough grader, but still mostly fair.
Having Crystal Moore was amazing for getting back to school after taking a semester off. She has homework due every class but the reading is easy and there are only 3 papers and she gives the sources. Im taking another class with her next semester she is super understanding you will definitely love her!
Subdivides material so they are in the same place as the assignment. Usually 1 assignment per class with good lecture + material. Paper instructions were kinda vague to me but that's just me I think. Beyond that at least attempt most work as its an auto 0 if assignments are missed with very VERY little leeway on taking late work.
Great professor, has a few large papers, don't miss them, but overall good teacher.
okay class, lots of hw quizzes ranging from an hour long or super easy to command F. but you have to know your stuff for the exams. 4 exams total no final, all online. 2 papers very specific. does have lots of extra credit and take it! she's good at answering emails and doesn't cancel class ever really.
Professor Moore was a great history teacher who knows how to run an online class. Following the schedule was very easy, and it was not overloaded with work. All the assignments are based off the resources given, so there are not surprises on quizzes and tests. Best of all, it's an interesting subject!
If you align with her personal views and beliefs then you will have problem taking this class. Professor Moore is very nice and willing to help you succeed but fails to keep the AWC lectures and points within the class's time period. Stretches history at times in order to make a point regarding modern American problems and its just not needed.
Loved her class!
I love how she connects history to current events and doesn't make us buy a textbook. We used recorded lectures, free online texts, documentaries, and short readings. There were lots of fun games and activities in class. Not a names and dates and memorizing kind of class but more big picture. I am taking her western civ next semester.
One of my favorite professors, took her two times and actually learned a lot. She kept the class interesting and organized. The test are open notes which is amazing !!
She is amazing and I learned a great deal in her class. Be sure to attend the exam review sessions and you should do well on them. She will treat you with respect and care. Don't take the class if you don't do homework. It's definitely college level.
Took her for HIST 133 and HIST 120. She's honestly a great professor. The thing that separates her from other professors is that she teaches in a flipped setting, meaning lectures, quizzes, and tests will be homework and activities are presented in class. She also teaches history in a nonbiased perspective, and is clearly passionate in the subject.
Crystal is super kind and is always there to answer questions and provide guidance. You have homework and lecture/activity that goes along with it in class. Crystal is always available outside of class and gives tons of extra credit points.
I loved taking Crystal's class, she listens to her students and is easily accessible outside of class. She's happy to help if you're worried about a grade or an exam and she listens to concerns.
She's a great person and she's very understanding, but she is a VERY TOUGH grader. Every test was a paragraph response to her questions, and no matter what you wrote she would find a million problems with it. She's a good teacher, but her way of administering tests was awful.
Crystal was amazing!! From day one she talked about mind-blowing facts about people we have known about from elementary school but in a fresh, feminist, culturally inclusive way! She had many fun, interactive lectures and group jeopardy games worth extra credit points. Exams were very easy and most were open note! I highly reccomend Crystal!
She is a hard grader and will always find something wrong with your work. Lots of 500 word papers along with a quiz weekly but you got to take the quizzes 3 times which was nice. Don't use google on anything, she plagiarism checks. Had a few tests that are proctored but if you pay attention they shouldn't be too hard. Only wrote 1-2 long papers.
I took this class online over the summer. multiple essays and quizzes each week. Every exam was proctored which sucks since you have to pay for them out of your pocket. Finds something wrong with every paper. Not the best online course I have taken but also not the worst.
The class is easy if you just read the instructions and she leaves good feedback on every assignment to help you do better on the next one.
I love her energy and all the fun games she makes for the class. She is always available to help you and has such a caring and sweet aura!
I loved her game approach to teaching. It was nice to make friends in class too. Doing the lectures in our own time was also great.
I took her online and then in person. The in person class was definitely a favorite but online was less personal even though she tried emailing and leaving comments. I guess there is only so much you can do with an online class that requires reading an entire book. The in person class had no textbook. She recorded excellent lecture powerpoints.
"Hm. What an interesting teacher. Surely I will get to learn about western history, and NOT about politics and propaganda."
I hate history, but she made this class a breeze. Very kind and always willing to help! Proctored tests but open book/note. Hint: Utilize Quizlet. All of the questions on the exams can be found there! Thank me later.
Every weds/tues, you are to read whatever she assigns you, then answer a short quiz. Itsimple enough, until you realize the quiz goes over EVERYTHING she gave you. Its impossible to know what info you should study for. the used yt vids are 11 yrs old. Key Concepts is a FULL page of terms youre supposed to memorize, and there is 2 every week.
This class is easy if you just do the work, none of which was too hard. She gave fun lectures and I enjoyed the documentaries she selected. Some people would rather complain than do the work required to earn a college degree. If you don't want to learn, don't go to Moore's class.
Best. History. Professor. Ever!! Class was fun, engaging, and teaches you things that are genuinely useful in Context of our modern world. She clearly cares deeply about students understanding and enjoyment, and making her class accessible to low income students. If her other classes were part of my degree, I'd take all of them in a heartbeat.
Crystal is understanding and kind. She makes an effort to teach the history that isn't taught in high school. She teaches in a flipped classroom, with usually 1-3 hours of homework outside of each class with review in class. Tests are online and open note. She gives pretty frequent pop quizzes but also offers a lot of extra credit opportunities.
This class has been so fun. We play games such as jeopardy and Pictionary to help us review before exams, which are open note and easy if you study. There are many chances to earn extra credit. There are min of 2 quizzes due a week over readings/ a video but they aren't very hard and usually take me about 30min. You learn a lot with Crystal.
If you follow assignments like a mindless worker bee you'll get an A. But if you don't and you know too much about the subject you'll soon realize that this class is full of wrong answers and opinions. It's like a bad highschool class which is what you should expect in community college apparently.
I liked that this class included fun games during class. The only issue I had was watching and reading the lecture content between classes. Especially on Tuesday or Wednesday nights. The lectures are all outside of class which is not beneficial for someone who works at night and has to get up early for another class. Overall the class is okay.
I loved this class! The only homework you have is to watch a lecture and take a 10 question quiz. This was super easy and then in class we did simulations and games and activities that were fun. Crystal is super sweet and caring. And I would take another class with her in a heartbeat.
Good class. I plan to take another with this professor. Do the work and you have nothing to worry about.
Crystal is very educated on her subjects and does a great job at explaining. She offers lots of extra credit opportunities. There are lots and lots of notes and homework but its not too hard if you pay attention. Shes funny and overall very real
I liked Crystal, she treats the syllabus like her baby so READ IT!! I made the mistake of skimming over it and missed a lot of points/ got zeros bc of it. Engage in discussion boards and ask questions and feedback! my biggest advice? DO NOT USE OUTSIDE SOURCES!! use her resources in your papers!! aside from that, she's great!! responds fast too!
Instructor Moore is an amazing teacher! She is very friendly, respectful, understanding, and provides clear guidelines/schedules for her class. She wants you to succeed and will help you if you are struggling. I took her HIST 120 and HIST 133 class and had a great experience with both. I would recommend her classes to anyone.
As a person, Crystal was amazing, she cared about what she was teaching and her students. As a teacher she was good, but the amount of homework she gave was overwhelming and without it youre screwed. At least an hour and a half of homework after every class, homework is just notes on long lectures and movies, and quizzes every class.
I loved Crystal's class this semester. We did lots of fun class activities and watched YouTube lectures with 10 multiple choice questions each. There was a ton of extra credit too. Crystal is always so caring and respectful of her students. I plan to take women's history with her next year.
She was nice, responded to emails fairly quickly, and was understanding when you had a question. There was SO much reading though. All tests, midterm, and final were not proctored. Essays and discussions due every week. The grading is tough though and she didn't give feedback on your assignments most of the time.
This was a great class. Manageable workload and teacher was funny and very passionate about history and teaching.
Crystal is a wonderful person! She makes her expectations clear, you'll never feel confused or lost about what you should be doing for her class. The homework truly helped me learn a lot (and was interesting too!). The class did have a lot of pop quizzes, but I can say she made me feel fully prepared for all of them.
At first, I thought her class would be awful, but it ended up being one of the best classes I've ever taken. She gives you optional HARDER homework (which I recommend doing if you want to learn) which was awesome! Even the group assignments in class ended up being fun and informative. TAKE THIS TEACHER SHE IS AMAZING!!!!!!
absolutely hated this class. genuinely crushing load. there were quizzes and readings over the spring break. reading reading reading and video. literally every class. the good thing is she allows cheat sheet in the exams. the exams were identical to the revision. however the details and the reading were extremely overwhelming to me.
Crystal Moore is the MOST understanding professor, she is quick to respond to emails and responds back with lots of sympathy for circumstances. I took her virtual class and there was, in my opinion, kind of a lot of work. There was on average 2 quizzes and a large discussion every week plus more. Grading is clear and she gives clear feedback tho.
She is very strict on plagiarism and AI usage, so you can't cheat in her class and will get one warning after that your pretty much receive an F for the whole class so it's better to drop. I take her online, so be prepared for a 500 and 600-word discussion post almost every week. Would not recommend her to take online, lots of workload.
Professor Moore gave the best feedback on online assignments, so I always knew how to improve! She follows her syllabus and grades fairly with rubrics. Answers emails in a timely manner. Definitely recommend for an online history class.
I'm really enjoying this class this semester! Lots of fun activities and group work plus interesting lectures at home. Class is never boring and she seems to really care about her student's well being. She let me make up a bunch of missed work after my car accident.
Crystal is a great person and professor, she likes to play games and make her lessons fun and interesting which is appreciated by many. She does give pop quizzes but most of the time allows notes to be used because she wants to see you actively learn subjects.
The material taught was very interesting, and it's not very hard to understand, especially in the way Crystal teaches. She made the class fun and laid back but still educational. there are readings every week from the book along with 2-3 short quizzes to test your knowledge. In class we watched a lot of videos/movies along with the lectures.
She made the class fun and easy to understand. Every week you have to read one chapter out of the book and watch one video, but only took around 30 minutes as you can skip through the video and skim read. The final and Midterm were the only tests taken in class and she gives all of the answers ahead of time and you are allowed a cheat sheet.
She does a flipped classroom, so you do most of the work yourself at your own pace. It's easy, she allows make-up quizzes. Exams are easy, she gives the answers beforehand and allows a full cheat sheet. Sweet, to the point, and cares about her students. Am taking her again for another class, would highly recommend to others.
Professor Moore is so amazing; I've never had a professor that is so caring, understanding and passionate about what she does. This class in particular is amazing, it is a great class for anyone who loves women's rights or is even an American history geek. I would highly recommend and the finals and homework are very easy, as resources are provided.
she has 4 exams almost identical to the revision and you are allowed to enter with cheat sheet which is was awesome. the reading was too much I would consider a crushing load if you didn't know how to skid read and how to summarize videos using AI. you have two quizzes each week which sound too much but it was actually helpful so you can mess up
Crystal is a kind person who's very understanding and flexible with students. She makes sure you know what needs to be done in advance so nothing is out of the blue. There are pop quizzes, but they're short and she supplies you with all the study materials you need to do well.
Not a very hard class, but absolutely refuses to give out anything above a 95 percent on writing assignments. No one ever received 100% on anything. The comments she leaves on writing assignments make no sense. You could do everything right and she would find a way to take 5-10 points off for something random.
Crystal is perhaps one of the sweetest teachers I've ever had. If you're not someone who enjoys history, I recommend taking her. She made the material easy to understand, and gave the class plenty of supplemental material (note taking guides, extra credit opportunities, etc). Very reasonable and well rounded professor.
I took this as a 12 week course and it wasn't hard. None of the quizzes and tests are in lockdown browser so the book is fair game to use, but none of the tests were particularly hard as long as you do the reading. She does give out weekly discussion boards where you have to write 500 words but questions are straight forward. 2-4 assignments a week
her grading is terrible. you can't ever get a full 100% she will always find something wrong with your assignment even if everything is perfect she will find something wrong and only give you less the half credit for one mistake
I read some complaints on grading below, but Crystal uses rubrics when she grades anything, which she gave to us ahead of time. She also actually reads our papers and doesn't just automatically give a 100. She offered 30 pts of extra credit in the class, which is worth more than an entire discussion board. You have to be trying, to do badly.
I could not be happier that I took professor Moore's class my last semester at MCC. I was feeling really burnt out and like the profs here didn't really care. Then bam! She is incredibly kind and starts each class by asking how we are doing. She listens. She adjusts assignments when we are overwhelmed and gives kick ass review sessions.
