He's really nice, and such a geek. He really tries to help his students.

Excellent Professor. The nicest guy ever. He is challenging-but it is worth it. Really cares about his students.

We covered the coolest topics about language in this class. He's extremely knowledgeable about language and who is doing what kind of research. He really works at getting us involved in research. He's funny too.

hard class with Dr. Burgess, but you learn sooo much stuff thats useful later on. This class is torture period, take it with him though. It will prepare you for any future experiments or research projects.

I agree, the research seminar was the greatest because the prof worked with us to get our research done and get it ready to present at the conference. I wouldn't have ever believed I could have done this. I dont know how it all came together but he got

Took it in summer! Be ready for work. He's serious about research and you learning about it. He does a lot to make sure you learn. I don't hear other students talking about how much they learned in other spcych 12 classes like this one.

Did research in lab. He'll let you do alot if you want and I'm doing 2 projects that I hope to do at a conference next year. I took him for psyc12. in the summer. It's a lotof work but you can get lots out of it too.

I agree that his class was very disorganized. Videos:useless. However,I have to add that if you were to go to his office hr with a rough draft,he helps immensely and cares about whether you understand what he's explaining.Take this class if you have a friend that already took this class w.burgess :)

i must say that at the beginning of the class i was a quite lost and confused, but for a demanding class such as this one, it should have been expected. Burgess does his best to help us out whenever possible and even is nice enough to relieve our stress with humorous videos. He's a good professor!

Brother! A bunch of people who failed must have gotten together to rate the Dr.! I took it in Winter of 05. It's a lot of work, but my group did a neat study and we went to a conference!! Put the workin and get a lot out of his class. What a bunch of whiners!

he's one of the best, imho. this was one of most interesting classes I've had here and I thought the "conference" at the end was a cool idea. He covered all the interesting and controverial issues in psych. Prof Burgess is a real player in this whole skepticism thing. everybody believes some weird crap and should take this class!

if you are the type of student that settles for the minimum and doesn't want to be bothered with deep thinking, then don't take Burgess' classes. this professor is hard, but fair and challenging. the negative responses are most likely from students that couldn't keep up because of thier own lack of motivation.

This is a rigorous course. Burgess is a hard grader and professor. You need to write two papers in total plus there are tests and finals.

Dr. Burgess is a very interesting teacher. The class is entertaining at times, but extremely difficult. There is a lot to do in a very short amount of time. He is the hardest teacher for the subject, but he is the best. You will learn a lot.

There is no regard for objectivity in this course (which is supposed to be highly regarded at the university level).But hey, its an "easy course" as stated by the prof. all thats required are a few pop quizzes, a class project and a mouth open wide to better ingest all the anti-phenomenological propaganda.The true skeptic values neutrality

He might not be the best lecturer, but if you get past that, he has a ridiculous amount of understanding about his field. I think he was very approachable. Also, he clearly stated in the beginning that he was a little biased, so if people don't like it, well whatever. I knew he wouldn't get good reviews on here, but I had to put my two cents in...

This class was very interesting, learned a ton about weird things people believe in and buy into(feng shui,diet pills, homeopathy...) Very insightful. I wish I could take this class again...

Awesome class and he did a great job teaching it. He was engaging and funny in a sarcastic way, and he graded extremely easy--15% grading buffer on all quizzes. And no midterm or final, just a project. Very fun, with weekly assignments, but definitely interesting material, and he shows lots of movies. :)

This teacher was extremely helpful and there was some disorganization with the working of the clickers so he provided some extra percentage as a cushion to really help our grades which was great. Other then the clicker issues, he was very knowledgable about this whole class and I learned a substantial amount of info and learned how to be less naive

Funny and interesting

THis class had a reputation for being difficult, but Burgess made the class run as smoothly as possible. The book was GREAT and fun to read, his tests were very straightforward, and the essays were not too difficult. If you attend class regularly and do the readings I don't see why you wouldn't be ale to get an A in the class.

I took him for psych 12 got an a took him for psych 13 got an a. He is probably the most distinguished man in the field of research here at UCR. His bad rep isn't for his teaching it's from the class material. Don't get that mixed up. Psych 12 was hard material any teacher who teaches it gets a bad rep ...lazy ucr students moaning about work...get over it your in college now! Dr burgess cares for the Students here go see him if you need help on your essays he doesn't bite!

Overall, maybe my favorite class at ucr. The class is easy in general and only requires minimal effort. If you are looking for an easy a this is the class. You watch alot of movies and if you pay attention there is no excuses to miss his clicker question. CLASS IS MANDATORY!

This class has a reputation of being the hardest class in the Psychology major. Dr. Burgess told us that the class needs to be looked at 2 different classes (lecture and lab). He was great at lecturing, tests very easy. If you have a horrible TA in this class you are in trouble. Dr.Burgess makes every effort to get you to pass the class though.

Take psych 13. Don't let some of these comments scare you away. The class is actually pretty chill. We spent a lot of time watching videos (actually that's all we did) during lecture. Be sure to have a clicker! He uses clicker Q's in every lecture. There are a couple projects, but it's no big deal. Also, there's no midterm. Only a final.

Great class, straightforward and gives plenty of extra credit no reason that this class should be hard unless you just dont care.

No textbook needed. Lecture is mandatory with clicker questions. No midterm and final is a group project. There's ilearn quizes every week but both quizes and clicker grades are buffered with an 15% of your total grade added. Easy class, take it.

The class is literally bs lol! its pretty chill if you want an A. NO excuse for you to fail. I hated the lectures. Never really been interested in the paranormal crap. NO midterm. Just Final Group project. Lots of assignments from section though. Go to lecture for Clicker Questions!!! He is a cool, approachable Professor too.

This class is so easy! But you kinda have to go to each class because of the clicker quizzes. He basically gives you chunks of reading each week, along with a few quizzes, but they're pretty easy. Just read and understand the material and you'll get a good grade.

Easy, easy, easy A. Actually I got an A+ with all the extra credit in this class. Just do your work and attend lecture and you'll be fine. It's a really interesting class and he's super nice! Both Charles and Marie are great TA's too.

Burgess is one the best prof. ive had at ucr. Just read the book and you can get a definite A on the exams (it's an easy read book). As far as the paper, he literally walks you through everything.... he is a bit unorganized, and the paper takes a lot of work but trust you will get through it. It helps a lot if you have a good TA too!

Easy A; Boring af. Clicker quiz every lecture. One final. Quite a few discussion section projects. Weekly articles to read and quizzes to go with them. A little time consuming but he gives a BUNCH of extra credit. Again, it's easy but soooooooo boring. You've been warned.

Burgess is not as hard as people make him out to be. He's probably the best prof. to take for psych12 given the fact that his is the "hardest" lower div. Just READ THE BOOK and you will def get an A on ALL exams. He walks through every part of the papers with you.... you'll be fine. Having a good TA will def. help aloooooot !!!

Funny professor with interesting lectures. Fair grading scale. Lots of online reading and online quizzes. Attendance sort of mandatory due to use of clickers for in lecture quizzes every lecture.

Overall helpful in office hours and changed my discussion grade because I talked to him. Lectures were long, but often interesting. Never forget your clicker and ALWAYS do the readings. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Definitely an easy A if you put effort into it.

Easy. There are a lot of assignments but they're not difficult at all. If you have basic reading and thinking skills, you'll do fine. There are also a lot of extra credit opportunities and you have like a 30% cushion in the class.

He is pretty funny. Gives a lot of points at the end so make sure you do well in all of your assignments not hard just not very clear sometimes. TAs are tough graders but talk to them totally approachable. his quizzes do have ambiguous answers so beware no midterm but there is a final. Study guide useful. you learn everything from the readings.

Dr. Burgess is hilarious! Be prepared for clicker questions every lecture. Those points add up. His assignments are extremely straight-forward. Do the readings and watch the videos. Online quizzes are timed so read ahead, don't wing it, those points add up too. No midterm but there is a final, use the study guide and study in advance if possible.

the course overall is suppose to be difficult. I look back and realized the professor did offer a great explanation as to how we should write. But because we are new to this and inexperience to us it may seem difficult and of no help. Ask for help and go to office hours if you need it. The lab does relate to class. Overall good professor , JUST TRY
