I did everything right. Tried sooo hard to get an A but did not. He had no control over the class - it was like open season and rather distracting. I don't suggest him if you want to earn and get an A.

He was very nice and I did all my work and got an A. There isn’t a lot of work, we didn’t even finish all the assignments he had originally planed for us to do, but we were not penalized for it. It was a good class and an easy A.

He is a very nice teacher, some of the things that he went over was not that clear but he does not mind if you ask him afterwards. Overall I learned alot in his class. Helps you as much as he can. Makes you work in a group to share your thought about the book that you read. I give him 2 thumbs up

Probably the best English teacher I've taken. He's very clear and sticks to modern english most of the time, not going into literature which is what I liked the most. He grades fairly, put effort to class and you'll get an A or B.

I just recently took his class over the summer as part of the Summer Bridge Program here at Pierce. I must say he was very helpful; you had to really understand the material in order to pass his tests. He's a very nice person with a good sense of humor, but at the same time he's serious and his tone demands respect. I highly recommend him

Wonderful teacher! Very enthusiastic. Assignments are easy, notes are easy, and he chooses a "theme" for reading which keeps class discussions fun. If you have a question he explains it until you understand it. Always loves to help. At the end there was a food party for our theme, Persia. Delicious and fun!

Professor Duffy was great. I took him summer 2014 and I'm thinking of taking him for Eng 103. He gives great feedback and lets you re-do assignments that received a bad grade. The class was fast paced because it was a summer class but he takes time to explain what he wants from each assignment. Great professor definitely take him.

Professor Duffy is really thorough. The class was really easy, but if you miss some of the small stuff he goes over it can get confusing. Although some assignments are repetitive, you learn a lot from them. He's patient with his students too unless they're constantly disrespectful. Just pay attention in class and study a bit and you should be fine.

He made the class really fun. He made us follow a horror theme which kept things really interesting. I took it in the PACE program so we had quizzes every Saturday and we had to complete an online program. For the online part,it is very easy to get the points. Dr. Duffy is one of the most inspirational instructors that I've had the honor and privilege of being a student of. He puts a lot of thought and time into the topics that are covered. Dr. Duffy is incredibly patient and understanding and truly wants his students to excel and learn. I highly recommend you take any English class that he teaches.

I've taken two classes with him, I barely showed up and still got an A. His class is very easy, I also didn't buy the required textbook. As long as you show up for the quizzes, workshops, and turn in your essays; it's impossible to fail his class. Plus, he's quite funny and really approachable.

He is a good professor doe not assign a lot of essays, just 3 3-4 page essays and a final research 8-10. He grades are on your gammer than content of essay. He's grades really hard on GRAMMER! Its annoying MORE THAN THE ACTUAL ESSAY. The hardest part of his quizzes are the essay portion. Love how he doesn't use a text book. He uses novels Cheap!

Dr. Duffy is an inspiration as a teacher, just know that if you do not attend the class of such an amazing teacher, how can you expect to learn. Also he always gives quizzes on Saturdays which you can leave after finishing often meaning everyone leaves an hour or so early. Lastly, he makes sure to lecture in a way that everyone understands.

He assigns 2-4 novels about the course theme for the semester. Gives quizzes every 2 weeks, 4 writing assignments, and 1 final paper to be presented at the end of the semester. Gives lots of easy A writing workshops. Attend class because his dicussions are different from the books.

Very easy class to pass you just have to do the work. There's quizzes every now and then. One research paper 6-8 pages, one collab writing paper, and two essays. Every semester he has a theme, usually assigns two reading books

Honestly awesome teacher! Very calm and has a great sense of humor! Everyday he came in and wrote what we would be doing on the board and it made it very easy to sit through. I guarantee you will take his class and be glad you did!

I passed the class with a 97% without opening the textbook once or reading the assigned short novel. He's an amazing professor who has great lectures (which was why I didn't have to open my textbook once) and gives really thorough feedback on quizzes and papers. Would take again for sure.

Great class. I took him over spring 2017 through a hybrid class and when we did meet in person, he would give lots of feedback, review and give notes, and prepare us for the upcoming online work and next class meet. He is very understanding, his grading is relatively fair but you do have to work for it, and he is really helpful and responsive.

Professor Duffy is a great English professor. He will review your papers during office hours before they're due, so you know what you need to work on. His exams are tough, so make sure you study. He teaches you how to critically think and use that logic in your papers. His lectures are powerpoint so they're full of useful information. He's great.

Duffy's Honors 103 class was pretty chill. Like any other English class, get ready to read and write papers, but you can always review papers with him before turning them in to make sure you get and A. He always lets you know what you are doing wrong and really pushes you to fix your writing flaws. I really wish he put grades on Canvas though.

He does give quizzes but they are easy as long as you take good notes and study them. On his second quiz he let us take it with a partner. He is very nice and approachable. His final was very easy. It was only 20 multiple choice and two essay questions. He makes his lectures engaging and will be willing to look at your essay as much as you need.

Tough grader but a great teacher you will learn a lot and his test/quizzes are easy if you study and take notes

Duffy is a very fair grader. He will tell you what you need to work on and you really need to abuse the office hours. He's open to questions and never stops talking about how much of a bad movie Zoolander 2 is. He's a great guy though and awesome professor. Would definitely take him again. Be aware though that you need to do the work.

I took Duffy for Eng 101 over summer. He's super nice and has an interesting sense of humor. He had us get this book called "the little seagull" that was focused on different formats for essay writing. We also had to do online hw to show that we "know" how to use different formants and can identify different sentence errors. I'd take him again.

I took Dr. Duffy's class for Spring 2020. He's very organized and prompt, he gives you time to work on assignments, excellent feedback, does use the books. Good Professor but there is a lot of long readings.

His class was pretty easy. There was a weekly discussion post that was mandatory and a few essays throughout the semester. Prof. Duffy quickly gives great feedback on all the work submitted. I definitely would take this professor again. (Taken online cuz COVID btw)

It was a short winter session, but I learned so much from Dr. Duffy. He provides you so many tools that you could use in varieties of situations in your life. If you are planning to transfer to a university and required to submit an essay, you would be grateful if you take his class. He is very knowledgeable and cares about his students.

I really enjoyed this Professor! He's hilarious and you can tell he really cares about his students' success. This class is NOT easy and he can be a tough grader, but he is always willing to explain and help if you need it. Very personable, will absolutely help you with assignments or essays in office hours. He is funny and caring! If taking honors, you will work hard! It is not impossible to get an A but you have to put the work in and really pay attention to his written feedback. Coursework is straight-forward, quizzes often (graded heavily by writing portion on it)

I came in late to this professor's pace course and he was very accommodating. His classes were enjoyable and useful. I wouldn't worry about double the workload just because it's an 8-week class, he paces the work extremely well and is responsive to emails if you need support. 10/10 i would want all of my eng classes taught by him.

Great professor who clearly cares about his students succeeding. He rewards improvement, but even if you start off strong, he heavily rewards consistency. If you feel a grade or group is unfair, he is willing to discuss it and compromise or explain what went wrong. He isn't a strict professor by any means and cracks jokes ocasionally, too.

Enjoyed his class a lot, everything was very organized and easy to find online. Feedback is helpful and he's willing to clarify if you ask. Chooses interesting and engaging reading material and provides pretty relevant material. Seems like an overall great dude.

After working my way up through a couple of English courses including working with this teacher, I believe that one has arrived at a solid understanding of Reading comprehension, how to write + English. So, this guy can seem like a tough grader, but as long as you do the reading and are willing to work Passing is very doable & teacher made it fun

Alright overall. Final exam was proctored with a webcam. You will read a lot, 2 books in short periods for example. Like 6 essays and a pretty tough grader. His class isn't impossible if you really try

He was very honest yet kind when giving constructive criticism. While the work load is heavy and the tests are stressful, you learn a lot. You feel accomplished and brilliant once the course is completed!

His lectures were thorough, but make sure to take notes. Papers weren't graded based off of a rubric, which was a little frustrating. Sometimes he takes points off for arbitrary things. I recommend going to office hours if you have specific assignment-related questions. Duffy is pretty good overall, as long as you're paying attention.

Duffy was a great professor. We had 4 papers, 1 creative project, weekly discussions, quizzes, and one final exam. There were miscellaneous short stories and 2 novels we read for class. Duffy gave great feedback and graded quickly. Easily one of the best online classes I've taken. One of my favorite classes ever, I would recommend it to anyone.
