Slept during most of his lectures honestly. Usually let us out a little bit short of class time. Before tests I would read the textbook on the chapters it was going to be over and I made an A on 2 of the 3 tests. Gave a booklet of 47 pages? Of review, had to be completed for 20 points extra credit on any tests. (class copied) Nice guy, easy class.
Cool guy, lectures are long but you can easily doze off for an hour and skim over the textbook the night before the test. You don't need the textbook if you pay attention in class. We had one major paper and 4 tests, tests were a little tricky. Overall the class was pretty chill, interesting.
Showing up is a grade. Lectures are very long, and his tests are awful! On tests he asks for more details that you would never even know and has little to do with what actually happened involving the event. If you have any trouble with history, dont take him!
Mr Baack is a pretty chill guy, he goes above and beyond to answer questions about the material or grading criteria. His tests are NOT easy, they are tricky and are meant to test you on in-depth comprehension, not memorization. Attendance is required or youll have points deducted. Show up, pay attention, study and you have nothing to worry about.
His lectures and the objectives he provides are really helpful for tests and his tests are not too difficult. You will have the option to write one essay for higher grade.
Super easy A! Gives you an objective list for each exam. Answers for objectives/exam are word for word (basically) in his powerpoints. Read the book for clarification! Optional essay, but must write if you want a B or higher. Takes attendance. Chill/kinda funny sometimes. Also gives break at halftime mark of class.
He's pretty cool. He gives well-organized lectures and his tests are from the lectures. A little funny sometimes too. He also gives mid-class breaks, which are awesome!
4 Tests, 1 Book Analysis. He'll stress that it's not a book "report." Due toward end of semester. If you pay attention in class and take good notes, this class is an EASY A! Tests are almost PURELY off powerpoints, so make it a point to get those! I would have taken him again but scheduling forced me to take someone else. 5 stars, take him! +++++
He's a great guy! Definitely the best prof I've had so far! His notes are very well organized and follow the objectives provided in the syllabus. If you go over the course objectives, you'll be fine for the test. He also gives a small break in the middle of class, which is nice. He's a very nice and funny person. He cares about everyone in the clas
Good professor. Power Points were online and thus there was no reason to go to class, but if you are unexcused for too much, he will drop you. Textbook was not needed, he covered everything for the test on the lectures. 1.5 hour lectures with a break in between. He tries making jokes here and there but not really funny. He cares for the students!!!
As long as you can sit through long lectures and handle one paper and four tests you are sure to pass! Offered a guide with exactly what you needed to know to pass the tests. Bought the book but never used it. Easiest A ever.
Great prof. Very knowledgeable about the material and keeps lectures interesting. Class is graded entirely on tests and a single paper which are all quite easy and can be fully answered from his powerpoint lectures.
he is a good teacher. give study guides, test are easy if you study, only one research paper to get a B or A.
Not hard, but I barely passed Due to health. Ive been to the emergency room twice(Dr. note proof), In two car accidents, & had bronchitis for a month (was prescribed medicine that made me drowsy; therefore, I stopped taking it during the day so I could drive to class). He said that I shouldnt have let outside activities Impact my studies.
He's an all right teacher. Don't buy the book unless you just like to read it or follow along. Gives you a study guide with every question that's on the test. One paper written over a book over the time period. Easy. Docked off points though because I cited using MLA cites. So don't go that into it. Easy class though!
Definitely recommend this teacher out of ALL of the history teachers. I took 2 history classes before him and withdrew. Literally, go to class, take notes, and when you take the SHORTEST TESTS EVER you'll pass BUT PLEASE STUDY. TESTS ARE EASY when you study. I passed it with a c ONLY bc i didn't do the essay and i got 70's on my last 2 tests.
Good professor overall. The grade consists of 4 tests and an essay. The textbook wasn't useful, as the test was based entirely off of in class lectures. Only complaint was the grading criteria was vague for the analytical essay.
A good person overall but his classes are lectures off a PowerPoint (but what class isnt) Theres never any homework assigned just studying and 1 essay; which he gives you the due date the first day of class. The only thing I didnt like was that the only grades in his book are 4 exams , a map test , and the essay .So if you fail the tests go....
Really easy A is you just show up and do the work. Has a surface level knowledge of material, so he's not very confident and tends repeat the same points a lot. I was a little disappointed that the class was so boring because it could have been so interesting, but early US history isn't his passion. Only take if you want an easy class.
You can tell that his passion is not this time period, he did talk a little about the fact that his degree is in a different time period. If you pay attention in class you can get an easy A or B, although if you don't want a C then you have to do an essay (which is not difficult, clear outline on what he wants).
Prof. Baacks expectations could not be more clear. For all four tests, he provides a study guide which directly correlates to each question. Analytical essay is assigned on the first day, and you have 12 weeks or so to complete it. Lectures are appripriately paced for note taking. If you receive a bad grade in this class, you earned it.
Great Professor. Easy to talk to, fun, and made lectures entertaining to listen to. Handed out easy to use syllabuses, and streamlined the class and tests well. Would take again!
He is alright. If you're looking a history professor who is reliable and a class formula that is the usual 4 tests and a possibly option paper then this professor is the one for you. His attendance policy is very strict though, no free absences and every absence is 2 points off your overall grade.
He is a really awesome professor
This guy is decent. His test's are difficult in the sense of the questions being very tricky. He claims to put these very tricky test questions on there to make sure we "truly understand" the concepts of the class.
This professor is pretty laid back; you can miss his class as much as you want as long as you pass, but he takes off points for each absence you don't tell him about. Take notes during his lectures, study the material, and the class is very passable. Not the easiest course ever, but definitely not the hardest history course I've taken.
Lectures are pretty boring but he does have power points to help you follow along. Test take specific things from lectures and textbook reading but overall aren't that hard, consisting of like 30 multiple choice and a couple of free response. There is an essay that is required to get an A but as long as you do the essay I think he'll grade it easy.
Professor Baack is great! Sometimes we go through concepts quickly but he is accessible at his office hours and happy to answer questions. Very helpful guy who uses powerpoint presentations for his lectures. This is a lecture heavy class and his tests are based off of them so show up and take notes! Learned a lot from this class, would take again!
Great class! Lecture heavy- be prepared to take notes! Try not to miss class, and read the chapters in the book to supplement the lectures for the test. He provides study guides, and there will be an essay- but he prepares you fully for it! Easy A!
Overall a great professor. Take notes during the lectures and study the objectives he lists in the syllabus. Very fun to talk to and a interesting dude in general. Pay attention during the class and you'll do fine.
Professor Baack is good. He presents power point slides with information directly from the textbook. However, he grades the essay way to harshly, as if he is an English professor. His lectures also tend to be a bit boring but you attain the knowledge you need for the test.
Dr. Baack is awesome. I've always been bad at history, but his lectures are clear & engaging, and tests questions come straight from the study guide. He is available for office hours & will always answer questions in class. He's super understanding if you're late to class for a good reason. 5 tests and 1 paper: go to class, study, ask ?'s, ur good.
A real cool prof and was willing to make accomodations for struggling students. Textbook barely used outside of the Analytical Essay.
He is a terrible public speaker. He white washes history. His analytical essay assignment makes you read the most boring books ever seemingly chosen from his personal reading list. Attendance is mandatory even though all you have to do is answer the chapter objective questions he gives you the first day to pass. Easy but dead boring.
Not very clear with what will be on the tests the objectives mean nothing.
Not good. Graded harsh. No feedback. The essay was so vague. I even had an argument practically w/ him asking for a proper rubric. After all his help and spending a month on this essay (an analysis on a 500 pg BOOK) he still gave me a B. Dont like the exams. 1/2 multiple choice. The rest free response. Even when I studied my hardest got a C+.
Dont waste your time with this professor. Strict grader and strict with attendance. There is no rubric for the essay and expected that we knew exactly what he wanted 0_o. He acted like a know it all English Professor. He gave stupid and tedious grammar corrections when it was literally fine. Dont do it.
Mr. Baack, was fairly a good teacher, but his grading was horrible. He is a sweet man but when it comes to grading he seems to not be so sweet. Your best bet is to do good with multiple choice and the matching parts on test because he will never give you points for the essay questions. Hopefully, no one has to ever take online classes with him.
HAVING HIM AS A PROFESSOR FOR AN ONLINE CLASS MADE IT VERY HARD. HE DIDN'T GIVE ANY LECTURES AND THE NOTES HAD LIKE ONE WORD AND THEN YOU HAD TO USE THE TEXTBOOK FOR EVERYTHING ELSE. IN THIS CLASS I BASICALLY WAS TEACHING MYSELF EVERYTHING WITH VERY VERY LITTLE HELP.
There are 4 exams and one essay (required to get an A or B). For the exams, just answer the learning objectives and know them, this will make the questions on the exam very easy. Overall tip: study L.O.s and the slides. Overall good course but can't say much about him because no lectures were given. Only had contact with him twice.
Prof Baack was great! He takes the time to answer questions you have. His lectures are clear, and goes in order of the learning objectives (study material). If you just take notes based off of the learning objectives, it's an easy A. You just need to study well and take the time to do the essay, WELL before you think you need to. I recommend him!!!
Mr. Baack only had 1 mandatory meeting where he explained what was going to happen over the 5 weeks. 4 tests and 1 essay depending on what grade you want/have. He has study points which correlate to tests. MC are pretty easy as long as you study. There is a LOT of reading from the text book. Study and read, youll be good.
His entire course is a lecture each day and consists of 4 exams and 1 essay.
Professor Curtis was a pretty solid professor. He was clear and always straight to the point. All of his powerpoints and recordings are available to look at. There wasn't really any interaction in classes, which makes lectures kind of boring. PS The Analytical Essay is a lot easier than it looks!!
great class! as long as you take notes and study learning objectives, you cant fail. he is a really good story teller and you can tell he likes his job so it made the class more enjoyable.
Even though I took his class asynchronously, he did not directly teach. He doesn't post lectures , instead he makes us read a textbook that HE WROTE! Most of it too is biased. I personally do not like that at all, if you're going to have a class asynchronously, at least put effort into posting lectures to make the class more engaging & interesting!
Professor Baack was super nice. I needed help with my analytical essay and he was there during office hours to help ALWAYS! Such a great professor that actually cares about his students and job. As long as you study for the test you should be fine. No homework at all. Just the 4 tests and the analytical essay, and the analytical essay is easy.
His lectures were not boring at all to me, I think he did a great job teaching a seemingly boring subject to many people. The text book and his guides help directly with the exams. But if you follow along in class and don't read then you'll probably do fine too. Theres is an analytical essay and you can submit it early for feedback before its due.
Pretty great professor. Very clear instructions on assignments and not a hard grader. Theres an optional analytical essay at the end of the course that kinda counts as a final, but its optional if you need to bring your grade up. Other than that, theres 4 test and his lectures are very useful.
Meh. He really doesn't teach much. He just tells you which parts of the book to focus on when studying (Learning Objectives), reiterates each one in class, then asks if there are any questions. Anything you learn will be from reading the book. Tests are straightforward, but he does like to try and confuse you with wording. A's are hard to come by.
His class is not bad at all. I took his in-person class this semester. It's all lectures. There are 4 exams and an optional analytical essay. (no hw) Everything on the exams is on the learning objectives. Just study those and you're good to go! He is more than happy to help you if you have questions. He's very nice and an easy person to talk to.
Professor Baack is awful and a tough grader. I had a 4.0 previous to this class. I can assure you it is not the student's ability to succeed. The test questions are tricky and hard to understand regardless of having studied, and I received a B on an essay I believe deserved higher. He is entirely unhelpful and does not even know his own material.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Unless you are prepared to devote all your free time/study time to this class only, this is not the class for you. Professor Baack is a terrible teacher and entirely lethargic, the tests are confusing, and the workload is a lot more than you would expect when you first begin. I wish I had never enrolled in this course.
Just don't. Seriously don't.
This guy's class was horrible, the worst experience I have ever had taking a class. He did not post any lectures; it was all straight out of a textbook with four unit exams which the questions on the exam were trick questions. A dumb analytical essay and four exams are your grade. No homework or quiz points, no extra credit. Do not take this class!
very clear grading criteria and tests aren't too bad as long as you read the chapters and focus on the learning objectives that are given on the study guide. optional analytical essay.
Recommend only for those great at self-studying. There's no lecture, no participation require. Everything is based on the textbook learning objectives. All of your grade is based on 1 map test, 4 unit test, and one essay (the essay can be optional). The tests are proctored using lockdown browser. It's difficult to get an A in this course.
Recommend only for those great at self-studying. All your grade is based on 1 map test, 4 unit test, and 1 essay (can be optional). There's no lecture at all. Everything is based on the test book and the learning objectives he provided. Hard to get A. The test are proctored using lockdown bowser. But he does reply emails and answer questions.
He actually cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I have a huge respect for this Professor. Tough grader but he will work with you and help you!
DIL is literally just the book and tests-proctored & tough. Get ready to read a LOT and be very self organized. I think he wrote the book himself, which was very opinionated & not well written. The 'optional' paper is not so if you want to get an 'A' which was not clear from the beginning. Hated the class and content. Maybe in person is better.
I normally love classes structured like this, but Professor Baack's was bad. The textbook is the only thing he gives you, and it is littered with typos and strange structuring. Almost every test question is "all of the following are true EXCEPT..." with overtly complicated answers. Do not take this class unless you have no other choice.
Prof. Baack is clear in his expectations - if you don't put in the work, don't complain about your grade! To get an A, you have to do the essay - he grades it more fairly than people give him credit for. The textbook isn't hard to read. If you take notes, the tests are mid-difficulty. Be careful, it's easy to procrastinate in his 10 week course.
Respectable teacher but the book that was "required" for class didn't seem that necessary. Each class was a 1.5 hour lecture which was very boring (but I guess that's college for ya.) Class consists of 1 map test, 4 unit test, and 1 essay (optional unless you want a good grade.) You'll just have to study hard and pay lots of attention to lectures
Professor Baack is amazing, very charasmatic! You do not need to do a whole lot in this class. Just print the course learning objectives and take notes off of that. All 4 unit tests are based off of that. There is a textbook required but DO NOT BUY. i swear you will never open it. ZERO hw tho:)
I wouldnt say hes the worst professor. You get 4 exams and one essay. How you do on the first two exams make or break your grade. Theres a textbook that you have to read. If not the exams will be difficult. It got annoying quickly. The syllabus is clear and concise. He is also great with communication. This class is ok but def not for everyone.
I am a HUGE history nerd, but I did not like this class. The textbook was the only source of learning, and it was packed with information. Each test was based on 100+ pages of reading material. If you like info-heavy textbooks then take this course. If not, avoid it. Prof Baack made himself very accessible, but I did not like his course structure.
This is my second time taking his class. I took both hist 1301 and 1302. This course is test heavy, no assignments. I like the online course better than in person because you can do on your own time.
He doesn't help you & zero feedback. He tells you history is a story & that's it. Each of the first 2 units are 400 years worth of history from 4-6 points of view. You will not get a good grade. I went from straight As to a C. He's terrible & I have nothing good to say about him.4 tests that's it no study guild no way of knowing what is on the test
Tests do not reflect what is covered in class. Analytical essay feedback is minimal to none. If you score below a 70 on an exam, you're given the opportunity to raise your grade up to a 70. However, if you score a 70 or higher then you're not given the same opportunity. No lectures, no explanations.
No help whatsoever. Would not recommend taking this class. It was very disappointing.
Nice guy, but sort of strict. 4 exams to which I studied and read all the chapter, yet I couldn't manage to get higher than a 80. Most my exams were in the 70's similar to the average of the class. There is an analytical essay to which he is very strict about. He graded it as if he was an English professor and not a history one.
Professor Baack was amazing! There's no homework which I really liked there was just 4 tests, and an optional essay if you wanted an A. He posted study objectives that you can go through and answer. Each tests' questions are identical to the study objectives, just worded differently. If you answer the study questions you will be just fine.
There were 4 tests and an analytical essay. You did not need to write the essay if you had an A or B but was recommended to keep that grade. He had his PowerPoints on Blackboard and went over them in more detail in class. He was available during office hours in person if you had any questions. He was a kind Professor who loves what he does.
His 8week class was HARD. You have to read the ENTIRE book to catch his TRICK questions.1 US map test, 4 tests/1hr: LOCKDOWN BROWSER, 20 MCQs, 3 fill-ins, 1 essay. For an A, mandatory essay = Do it EXACTLY like his sample essay, he GRADES on formatting/grammar! No homework / discussion post. I barely got an A. Honors Lit class was not this hard.
I took his 5 week course and it seemed pretty easy. However, all the tests are based on 1 text book that no matter how hard i studied the answers were not in it. If youre willing to email him every 5 minutes with question this is the right class but if not avoid at all costs!
No assignments only text book and tests.
This class is test heavy. The only grades you will have in the Gradebook are the map test, 4 unit exams, and the Analytical Essay. If you are a bad test taker, DON'T TAKE THE CLASS. Professor Baack makes it very easy during lectures. If you show up to lectures and take good notes, you will do well in the class. Good notes, good exam scores.
Great professor. The format is 4 chapters for a section and then an exam over that section. Literally just fill out the study guide using the PowerPoints from the lectures that you can access at any time and you'll pass. I guarantee the bad reviews just didn't study for his exams and got upset. Super easy class if you do the bare minimum.
Lectures are good and informational, but tests are mostly based on the slides he presents(which he posts on Blackboard). The grade comes from 4 tests, 1 book essay, and attendance. Tests are pretty tricky - multiple-choice, finish the thought, and a small essay. Just make sure you study using the provided study guide and you'll be good.
This professor does not teach at all. Basically you read the textbook and take the test. There are no lectures. He seems to be rather lazy. History is not the most exciting topic but other professors make the effort to make the student feel interested. I have taken other history classes at ACC that have been so much better.
SO. BAD- i took the summer online course. lockdown browser closed note exams- theres only 4 of these, plus an essay. thats your grade and that's it. if you like tests this class is for you. completely async no explanation no nothing besides a lengthy textbook.
Honestly the worst class i've ever taken and I alr have 3 degrees so it's not just me. BS of a class. Don't even waste your time unless you just love reading textbooks with zero guidance outside of “chapter objectives”. He says there are helpful hints and a study guide, this is a lie. Definitely a “names and dates” history class NOT real learning
There were 4 total tests and one paper to determine the grade. Very heavy textbook reading. Condensed course, no meetings. Need to read a whole book for the essay. Do not take this course if you aren't prepared to give it your full attention.
This is a pretty good professor. He has a great attitude, and even though it is mostly lecture based - he explains the topics very well and overall shows excitement for teaching. The others who disagree just don't pay attention, it's four tests and one paper, simple. Just study for the tests from your notes, I only used the textbook once.
The whole course's grade is based on 4 tests and 1 final essay. So, not a lot of stuff to do, just major events. I agree this was really hard, but cramming the stuff a few hours before shouldn't be crazy. The tests are closed and respond, so its really hard, but at least the essay is easy enough to do.
So I took this class last semester, and I have to admit that I kind of regret taking his class. I took so many notes every class and no matter how much I studied I still failed every test. But if you fail a test just do the make up tests and you will pass. Wouldn't take again.
Took him in the summer, class was pretty straightforward. Like 5 tests and 1 paper to do In 5 weeks. Not hard. Be sure to study for the tests since they're all the class is really made of.
