Great Guy. Really cares about his students. Really goes overboard to help you.
Goes out of his way to help you. Sometimes might seem like he doesn't knwo what he's talking about, but he comes around and is always willing to help. Very fair.
Kinda like a Puppy. Really sweet, but kinda dumb and always in the way.
Good teacher, tries to help, but watch out for double standards with extra credit!!!
Seems like a great guy. He acts just like a student, which is good. He can relate to his class and will do anything to help. Hmmm, what kind of extra credit were you going for, cuz I dont remember any extra credit opportunities...
Definately seems like a great guy. Explains the material very well. I'd definately recommend him.
Great and fun teacher. He brought in a lot of hands-on examples for our teacher class. We not only learned the math of our class--we learned how to teach it for our future students. As someone else said, he is young and fun and easy to understand.
He is an EXCELLENT instructor! He is enthusiatic and really cares about the students learning & wants them to succeed on the exams. Explains subject extremely well & if needed, will give extra help on his office time. Nice guy!
He's a great guy. The reason why I'm now majoring in Math. He goes out of his way to help you.
excellent professor. he actually cares about the students and their grades. great prof. to have and helps out a great deal. i'm not a math fan, but i do enjoy going to his class!
Material is difficult but he does his best to make it understandable. He is nice to look at too. Better than a lot of the other math teachers....
A cool guy but sometimes gets ahead of himself and just ends up confusing students and himself. But he made math a little fun so I recommend him.
Awsome prof. Very kind and helpful. He tries to make everything as simple as possible. kind of like the "keep it simple stupid" k.i.s.s. theory. works for me!
Love him! Super nice guy! He takes the material and makes it as simple as possible. He made sure we understood. Best Math teacher I've ever had. Talks in a cute Oklahoma accent, and talks super fast sometimes. He's funny too. Take Him!
Interesting! He likes the opinion of the class as to how they'd teach to their students and doesn't just care about the material. Easy to follow and takes time to answer questions. Best math teacher yet!
I would definately take him. It required work and studying, but he is a good teacher, much better than many others at SVSU. Hard work pays off in his class.
Not a good prof.
He's a nice guy but a little anal and often in trying to clarify stuff he makes it more confusing. He's really worried about keeping on track and speeds over things to be on track with the syllabus. We had 2 snow days and he went really fast at times.
This class was really easy.
This guy is wired 24/7. He loves the subject and knows math and shows it in his teaching. Didn't present the material well, but then again it was a summer class.
Good teacher, explains things well. I would take him again. He is nice and knows what he's talking about. He is genuinely interested in his students learning the material.
Not willing to help students in need. Very fast talker, it's hard to keep up.
This class isn't hard at all with Prof. Grosse. He's kind of scatterbrained at times, and it takes him a while to get to the POINT, but when he finally does, the class moves smoothly. If you think he's wrong about something - challenge him - he'll love you for it if you're right.
He was a good teacher. He presents his ideas, but can sometimes confuse himself. A background in Geometry would be very helpful.
I'm good at math and this was mostly a review session for me so I didn't have too much of a problem but he talks fast sometimes. His grammar is a bit off and he says things 10 different ways trying to say the same thing but it never comes out the same. It's a tough class but he tries to help.
Tough class, but Grosse makes it soooo much easier. Important to keep up on homework because he bases alot of quizzes and tests on the hw. Exam is 200 pts which is kinda tough. Very different teaching techniques, but effective. Take him!
He talks fast, but you get the hang of it. This class is not hard, but you just have to put a lot of work into it if you are not good with math. If you need help then go to him, he will explain it over and over until you understand. I got a C, but only because I did not apply myself as much.
Best math prof at SVSU...I would take him for every math class but he doesn't teach them all, I sure wish he did. Maybe the other profs should ask to view his lesson plans or he should just write them for the entire math dept. Save yourself a math headache and take him.
He is a very unclear teacher. It takes him awhile to explain an answer. He is also very bad with words. Math was hard enough for me, he just made it worse.
Awsome teacher. Very fun and interesting. Compaired to the rest of SVSU's horrible math dept. hes an A+. Enjoyed class Take him!
Talks very fast, sometimes doesnt go into depth on the material. Tests feel different from what we learned.
I enjoyed this class so much I sat in the front. Very enthused about teaching. Does everything to help you understand the material. Great personality and very energetic. I would recommend him any day.
Great prof, he knows what hes doing just make sure you really understand the homework and quizzes and the tests will come be esier. Put forth the effort youll get a good grade.
Great proff! Really tries to bring the material down to our level. Will help you with any questions. Funny guy!
Has a speech issue, i think his mind is going faster then his mouth is able. Gets annoying. Do the homework it helps out a bunch, Said offered extra credit but he changed his mind.
He seems to know what he's talking about, but has a hard time expresses it. You can tell he tryed to make statistics as easy as he could for us, so that was good. Good teacher, but very boring. He gets to rambling quite a lot. Not one of my favorite classes, but he helps you learn. Make sure you keep on top of it, though, or you'll drown in it!
At first I thought he was a good professor. His speech problem only annoyed me a little. Now I cannot stand the guy. On quizzes, if he made a mistake on correcting it, he'll just make up some kind of excuse on why he did it. I do not usually argue with the prof unless I know for sure I was right. He gets irritated when you think he's wrong.
he talks very fast and does not explain anything very well
Prof Grosse was often unclear when he was tring to teach. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but i went to every class and still had a hard time understanding. Class is based on quizzes taken once a week and on the tests. Extra credit comes from harder questions on quizzes and tests, but not too often. Tests are hard, you need to study a lot for them.
he rushed through the information way to fast and ignored me when I raised my hand to ask questions.
Very fast paced. You have to understand things fast to be able to keep up with him. During class when asking questions he makes you feel like your intrupting him, if you don't understand it right away he seems to get frustrated and rushes even more. Outside of class in his office he was better to understand and not as rushed. Over all he was ok.
This guy is very hard to understand, his handouts are in his terrible handwriting, he is a nice guy but very difficult. I had a very hard time reading what he wrote on the board. IF you ask a question , he will go off into something else you didnt want to know about.
Very difficult to understand. When he doesn't know what to say he'll clear his throat like 15 times or say "I want to do this juuuuust right"... these mannerisms get very annoying and makes it hard to focus on the material. He's a nice guy if you get past the mannerisms. The class is pretty easy, but I'm a good math student. I won't take him again.
Do not take his class. He does not know how to teach. He goes through things too quickly and when half the class fail quizzes he doesn't really go back over what we didnt understand. Constantly clears his throat between sentences(its gross and annoying)Overall, if at all possible do not take him. Very boring and very hard to sit throught his class
This professor is great. Unlike other teachers he goes over the info so you understand it. He will skip some sections if needed and is a tremendous help. He really cares about his students. I am horrible at math and he was awesome!!
One of the good SVSU math profs. Quiz/Exam every Wednesday. Homework is not mandatory. He makes sure everyone is doing well and gives all the explanation necessary. Really tries to relate to students. Good teacher and overall good guy.
very nice guy. horrible teacher. he goes way to fast and goes in circle when "awnsering" a question. Often gets nervous/excited when he teaches...very strange. Half the class dropped after the first test. I'm usually a an A/B student and I failed the class. Do not take this class unless you want to commit GPA suicide.
he doesnt usually convey the material very well. he studders a lot and talks in circles.
Not bad. Occasionaly gets confused by question. Long pauses can occur during class when he realizes a mistake.
very fast paced. tries to fit too many sections into one class period. quizzes every week, homework not required. if you cannot learn at a fast paced, do not take his class. Overall, would definitely not recommend!!
BY FAR THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. Doesn't explain things well, stutters all the time, moves way to fast, teaches as if everyone already understands the concepts, doesn't collect homework, over explains everything and just makes it more confusing, and I could go on forever. If you can avoid taking his classes, I suggest it.
Keep in mind that when most people fail a class, they blame others instead of themselves. This is a great prof and you would be at a huge disadvantage to take this tough course with anyone else. He is very helpful and cares about your success.
He is a really sweet guy and I loved him as a professor. His tests are harder than the rest of the class though.
Not a very good teacher, doesn't explain well, but probably one of the better math classes at svsu considering their horrible math department
He rushes through class in order to stay on schedule. He assumes that everyone understands the problems after one example. Worst teacher that I have ever had.
I had to drop the class because I was so behind. He rushes through things and expects us to know it the second after we learn it. Highly recommend taking anotehr prof.
Extremely helpful teacher and makes class very interesting. Make sure you show your work otherwise you won't get full points. You have quizzes every other class and regular tests. As long as you go to class and do the homework(which isn't for points)class isn't too hard. Extra credit opportunities and make sure you let him know you want to do well.
ABSOLUTELY AVOID. He teaches the class like students are remedial but he tests like students are supposed to be geniuses. Has a slight case of OCD, says um and uh a lot, which can lead to a very long, boring math class. Avoid at all costs if you want to keep your GPA.
He's a nice guy, but the class is tough. There are quizzes every week and a few big tests, plus a comprehensive exam that literally takes the whole exam period (and then some)to take. He sometimes talks in circles, but he's willing to work with you if you're struggling.
He enjoys teaching and is very enthusiastic about it. I liked his class, though the material is pretty difficult. He is very energetic, which is unusual in a math class. He was always willing to clarify information. 304 is not a prerequisite for this class, but it really should be. You should definitely have a handle on prob/stats first.
Mr. Grosse is a great guy. He really loves his job and he is willing to help students in whatever way possible. He gives 3 exams and a cumulative final but he tries to be as fair as possible. I've taken him for 2 math classes and I'm taking him again next semester. GOOD TEACHER!
AVOID! Professor Grosse is very confusing and difficult. He is very smart, but has a very hard time explaining things in the classroom. He says "um" and "uh" literally every 10 seconds. I spent 8 hours in the Math Resource Center EVERY WEEK to barely earn a C. He is, however, very sweet and EXTREMELY helpful and patient during his office hours.
Hated the guy at first. Felt like dropping out. DON'T! The class isn't as hard as it seems in the first month. Things get better and Curtis is actually a really nice guy. Just talk to him. The first test seems impossible, but you'll learn what he expects out of you and looks for. Take him!!!
I loved Prof. Grosse. He will go to the ends of the earth for you as long as you ask for help and try. I had this class in the summer semester and it was rough. As soon as you feel you don't understand what is being taught GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! he will help you!
Professor Grosse is a really nice professor. He tries to get the concepts across in the best way possible for the class to understand. Geometry is definitely not my subject, but I enjoyed going to class and I feel like I learned a lot this semester. The work was not very difficult and there were quizzes every Wednesday to boost points.
Very hard to get used to the way he teaches because he moves very fast to try to stay on schedule. He won't help you during breaks during class, only his office hours. Talks very professionally and with a lot of knowledge.
He expected a lot out of his students. His tentative schedule is packed and if he isn't where the schedule says he needs to be he will rush. That causes major confusion. He talks more about problems then working them out on the board. I suggest if there is someone else teaching, take them. Do not take him unless you like being rushed and confused.
I did horrible on the first 3 quizzes. I asked him for help at office hours and he told me to drop the class. He didn't help me that day, but helped a girl who was doing better. He was very discouraging. I worked my butt off for the rest of the semester and earned a B. He told me he was surprised I did well. You have to work very hard to do okay.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. Professor Grosse is not a good, nor dependable professor. He moves too fast teaching lessons & expects you to automatically understand what he's teaching or have some prior knowledge. He doesn't have much office hours & when he attempts to help, he only confuses you more. He's very discouraging & disheartening.
Helpful professor. Talks a little fast at times, but very willing to take time after class. He has a positive attitude. Some on this site don't like that he assigned homework. It is true that he expects you to work hard. He drops a quiz but expect to work hard. Listen to his lecture
Professor Grosse is very nice and is willing to go out of his way to help students and answer questions. His quizzes and tests are difficult, but if you pay attention in lectures they aren't bad at all. I recommend taking him as a professor because he was always willing to help outside of class and I did the homework so it was easier for me.
He is a great teacher and gives several examples to help with homework assignments. You do not have to turn in homework assignments, but they are important for quizzes and tests. He is a big fan of partial credit so you can get part of a question wrong and still get points. Highly recommend!
Although Grosse's class was challenging, he was so helpful! I went to his office hours weekly and had all my questions answered. There was a quiz every Thursday, boosting your grade. Tests were hard but he gives partial credit so write all you know!
He is overall a good professor! He is very good at explaining things sometimes he goes off topic, but he always brings it back to what we are learning. He is very good at answering any questions that the class has even if it takes an hour.
Professor Grosse is a great professor! The material taught isn't the easiest but he finds ways to help explain things. The class is a quiz every Thursday and a few exams. He has a great attitude that helps you get through the class. Sometimes he goes off topic and tells a random story but they were funny. Overall, it was a good class.
Grosse is a fun and energetic guy. Lectures are long, but not boring. Homework is not graded but definitely recommended. Tests are hard, but he provides helpful and accurate study materials. There are also weekly quizzes. He LOVES answering questions. Textbook required. Come to class and pay attention. It would be hard to fail this class.
Professor Grosse is an extremely down to earth guy; those are the kind of people you want to have around; especially as a professor. He is so very willing to work with you. If he sees that you are trying your hardest and using your resources, he might take that into consideration with your grade; that helped immensely and math is tough for me.
This class was the hardest math class i have ever taken. The professor did not explain things very well and went way to fast
Grosse was funny and interesting. The grades were only tests and quizzes. There were quizzes basically every week. His tests were extremely hard and tough to get an A. Doing homework is an absolute must.
Optional homework after every lecture is very long, but do it for understanding. Tries hard to engage students, make info relatable. Has real-world experience, which helps in lecture. Very willing to help students. Makes the hard class a bit easier. Sometimes tries to be funny. Sometimes has hard time clarifying well. Overall, a good prof.
Curtis Grosse is very energetic and uses real life scenarios to help you understand the material better. He also takes time to go over things in class as well as outside of class to help his students. You will need to know the material and attend class to pass this class. Homework problems are easier than the problems placed on the Exams.
He is a great professor. I was nervous about taking Statistics but he made it easier. We have quizzes every Thursday but he goes over any homework questions before. He is very good at explaining and he only talks about the stuff required for test which is super helpful. I would recommend him for Stats.
He's very hard to listen to in lecture, but really tries to favor the students standpoint. A real nice guy. Your grade is based off quizzes and tests so show up to class. He words some things really weirdly, but always gives partial credit. He goes slow and loves to answer questions for full understanding. The class itself is just hard.
Great guy and an even better teacher. He really explains math in an easy way and is eager to answer any questions you may have about the material.
His tests are very hard and one problem could include many steps of different topics to get the answer. He talks loud and only shows one way to do the math problems. He was a great person and does his best to help the students, which I liked.
This professor is great. He truly wants you to know what you are learning. He goes over homework and will work through any problems you have. He's great with office hours and will go step by step through problems until you understand it. Such a great professor! Highly recommend!
Great math professor, he really wants his students to succeed. He takes each lesson slow to make sure you understand it. Encourages students to ask questions and explains things very throughly. He gives partial credit and has extra credit on his exams which saved my grade. Do homework after each lesson to make sure you understand the material
Loved this professor. He takes time to make sure every student understands the material. It's obvious that he really cares for his students. However be prepared for short weekly quizzes. The quiz and test material comes almost entirely from the homework so you always know what to expect. I would definitely take a class from him again!
I ABSOLUTELY HATE MATH. I have never performed well in math, and I was failing 120B with Dr. Nedeva before she passed. This man is a true gem. He breaks math down in the most amazing way, he's always available outside of the classroom to help, and he'll work through a subject as long as necessary until the class gets it. I'd suggest him to anyone.
not a big fan of math but for Math 120B and a business perspective this teacher is the best by far. makes sure everything is applicable! very reasonable with the fact that B in 120B is for business and teachers to that! overall easy to stay engaged and great teacher
Mr. Grosse truly cares about his students and wants them to pass. He is more than willing to help when a student does not understand something and encourages students to ask questions. He clearly explains the topics and gives lots of helpful examples.
Although he is a nice guy,he doesn't know how to teach. He has good intentions but he makes everything SO CONFUSING.I'm usually good in math but in this class I only learn watching YouTube videos and teaching myself. Tests are all written with little True or False, no multiple choice. 10 pt quizzes on Thursday. Doesn't use Canvas(very inconvenient)
Super nice and cares about his students so much. I thought he taught the material well and really explained what would be on the exams. However if a student asks a question, it'll take him ten minutes to answer it instead of a normal two second response....... so he is VERY thorough in explaining. SHOW ALL WORK he gives a lot of partial credit & EC
SVSUs math department is a joke in general, but I am extremely dissatisfied with my results in this class. Professor Grosse is a nice guy, but his exams are extremely hard. Quizzes were easy. His exams were nothing like the homework. Hed prepare you for quiz time but never exam time. I 100% do not recommend. Never failed a class until I had him.
The grade for the class was mostly comprised of quiz and test scores. He gives partial credit though which helped me through the course a lot. If you aren't a math whiz or going into math he seems to kind of cut you some slack when he grades.
Professor Grosse is one of the better math professors at svsu. He has clear grading criteria. The class consisted of only tests and quizzes, but he drops your lowest quiz score. If you show that youre trying he will pass you, he wants you to pass just as much as you want to. He offers extra credit on every test. Great guy and always helpful.
I really enjoyed Mr. Grosse. I am pretty good at math so I thought his lectures were easy to follow and his tests and quizzes were predictable. Everything was just like the homework he assigned. It is a math class though so you have to put in work outside of class if you want to get a good grade. If you need help he is very easy to talk to!
AWESOME professor. Best math prof @ SVSU in my opinion. Really make sure you understand the material and grades fairly. Can talk fast at times, but will go back and re-explain things if necessary.
I had to take this class twice. First time got a D, second time got a B+. The math department at this school is a dumpster fire, but this professor is the best choice in my opinion. He is really caring and wants to make sure you succeed. GO TO EVERY OFFICE HOURS HE OFFERS!!!! If you go to office hours, odds are you will be fine and pass.
Really passionate guy who made math possible for a music major.
Funny, low key has a southern accent, easy to talk to and makes sure everyone is on the same page. Highly recommend for someone who struggles with math!
I was sick for my final and he was more than willing to help me out any way he could so I wouldn't have a zero. He took an interest in me and gave me options on future possible careers. He cares about his students and wants everyone to be successful. He does have a lot of quizzes, but they definitely help in the long run. He was just great.
He is pretty funny in his own way, not heavy test but review will help. Quizzes every week, homework but dont check the homework. Dont take attendence but go to class will help to pass because math problems are question problems and he have those extra credits or harder question from the lectures in test.
VERY Nice man. Greatest choice for Math at SVSU. 120B Is harder than ALL 100 level classes. He is very knowledgeable, but only grades Exams and Quizzes. If you aren't good at math or test taking, this class will be horrible for you. If you get to know him and ask questions, he will grade more easily for you. This class is TOUGH and CONFUSING.
Really Nice guy but if you struggle with math or dont like super fast paced professors, dont take this guy because you wont be able to keep up. seriously about 1/2 of my class withdrew at some point or completely failed. SVSU math department terrible just take this class at your community college forreal!
I really enjoyed having Professor Grosse as an educator, but I didn't enjoy the criteria he was educating us on and that made it really hard to focus. He grades strictly on quizzes and exams, those were the only grades that were recorded into my final grade. I defiantly recommend going to the tutoring center because of the heavy work load.
Professor Grosse is one of the best profs I've had. He is hilarious and very helpful. Homework isn't for a grade, but you should do it for yourself because he pulls questions from the homework and puts them on the weekly quizzes. Drops your lowest quiz grade. Exams are easy if you come to class and pay attention. He doesn't rush through material.
Considering SVSU has a horrible math department is horrible, Grosse is your best bet even though hes pretty mediocre. Awkward jokes, only grades on tests and quizzes, you need to show up to his classes. He explains what he teaches throughly, but goes into things WAY too much. Hes just such an extra professor
This guy makes the 100 level class unnecessarily hard. Promise you guys should try and take Physics 202 before this class (Which counts towards the degree audit) or listen to other reviews and take this class at your community college. He assigns way too much homework that you will drown in and he does not even grade & super strict grader on test
Every Review on here is very accurate. If you have 10-12 hours of free time then this is the perfect class for you. He will give you about 100 questions for homework that he does not even grade however if you do not do all of it you basically screw yourself. Like this 100 level class is worse than some ME classes I had before I changes majors...
Simply not a good professor. Like most of Saginaw's math department though...
My class was half in person and half not. None of his quizzes are like the homework. You get a quiz a week, no graded homework. I failed the first quiz and he pretty much told me yeah your done for. I went to all of the lectures, tutoring, office hours and ended up dropping the class. Unsatisfied with the class and how he handles things.
Honestly the material is not that hard but he makes it extremely hard to learn. If you struggle with math in any way you need to avoid this guy because it is highly unlikely you will pass.
I'm not sure why people say he's a bad professor. He is very accommodating during hybrid classes and willing to help inside and outside of the class. His quizzes are exactly like the homework, ask a lot of questions and you will be fine. He does tell a lot of dad jokes and tries to be funny. Overall a cool guy and if you do the work you'll be fine.
He has been very helpful with the transition to online. He is giving a lot of extra credit because he knows how weird and hard this semester has been for everybody. We have 6 20 point quizzes, he drops the lowest one and then we had a review assignment. None of it is hard at all if you just do the work. Homework and question asking is key!
Not a fan of his teaching style.
This guy goes off topic for the entire beginning half of the class making stupid jokes and telling stories about his childhood that no one cares about and then rushes you through everything for the entire second half of the class making it very difficult to retain everything.
He's one of the best math teachers/professors i have ever taken, especially in math. He's very personable and easy to come to with questions. Like someone said before, he likes to joke around before and during class, so if you don't like that then he's not for you. Overall, a great professor and I'd recommend him for anyone.
One of the best teachers I have ever had at Saginaw Valley. Inspirational and caring he'll encourage you for doing the smallest things, the positivity he brought into the classroom made my day better. He honestly just wants the world to learn and seems like a wonderful person inside and out. He made the hardest topics easy and will work with you
Off topic. Strict grader. Kind of funny, especially with his accent.
He get off topic constantly and talks more about his family than statistics. He doesn't care much about the students themselves, and never really answers your questions. my only advice is to take a different professor.
I hate math. Professor Grosse did not change that for me but I did well in his class because he puts effort into his lessons and answers questions thoroughly and carefully. He makes sure there is plenty of time available to ask questions so you can gain understanding. Nothing that comes your way is ever a surprise but you have to pay attention.
Professor Grosse was by far one of the best math professors at SVSU. I always struggled with a number of other teachers, but Grosse was a relief. He always tries to make the lectures fun and understanding. There is optional homework and he grades mostly test but was very lenient while grading our exams. If you struggle with math take his class!
Gonna keep it real super nice guy and really willing to work with you outside of the course but his lectures are terrible and if you dont do good with math and dont give this class 110% you will not succeed unfortunately
Considering how much of a joke the math department is at SVSU, Grosse isn't too bad. During the lectures, he moves VERY fast and doesn't really leave much room for questions during class time, but he was very helpful during office hours and wouldn't leave the Zoom call until I understood the concept we were learning in class. Overall, pretty decent
His test have true and false on them... I already know I am going to fail the class based on the first test.
Amazing teacher, made everything very clear. Was caring with accommodations to grades, gave extra credit opportunities. Overall, make sure you review and know the content and you'll do good.
Amazing Professor! After the first class I was scared because he moved faster than what I was used to, but I ended up doing well. He is very easy to talk to, caring, and goofy. He doesn't get upset when you ask for clarification. The tests are easy as long as you do your homework. Homework isn't due but I recommend doing it to help with tests.
One of the worst professors I have had at SVSU. Take it with anyone besides this guy...
Professor Grosse is a wonderful teacher to have for a math class. I have taken previous math classes at SVSU and he is a rare gem among them. His class is hard if you don't want to put in the effort and actually learn the material. He gives 30-45 minutes beginning of each class to go over HW material or any questions. Grades are based off of tests.
Professor Grosse is an AWESOME professor and an AWESOME person in general. He makes sure that you know exactly what to do and how to do it and when to do it by. No pop quizzes ever. Always goes over review RIGHT BEFORE quizzes. He is a father of a college student so he's a genuine person. Super understanding and respectful.
Teaches by talking a lot and not showing that much work, hes really nice and will probably try to answer your questions, but he also leaves random things out of the lecture and will ask for it on homework
All grades are based off of quizzes and tests, but he provides as much guidance as possible beforehand to help your understanding. Class discussions were also very engaging and he really tried to make connections with his students.
Literally the best professor ive ever had Trust me his class is not even hard you just gotta do the questions he assigns cause trust me you, those are the same questions that will be on tests and exams. love him big time
i feel like i could have out in a bit more work but at the end of the day this guy is the toughest grader ever and not the best lecturer/professor
He is a funny guy but just not a good professor. Talks a lot and gets side tracked but then rushes through the lectures.
Professor Grosse is a great person and professor. He cares a ton about his students and will make sure you are prepared for the quizzes and exams. The homework is usually pretty similar to the quiz and exam material as well. You will leave Grosse's class having learned and laughed a lot. He is very funny and overall great. Would recommend.
Grosse is a very caring and funny guy. He gets sidetracked a lot during lectures and will take a minute to get back on track. The notes he takes does not show much work and he leave out major parts of chapters that will later be on the homework, quizzes and tests. He will answer questions when you go to him, but he gives a very round about answer.
I am an all A and B student and received my first C in my life with this professor. He puts a lot of material he did not cover in lecture on test.
He's fine. Good guy and willing to answer questions, unfortunately I only passed his class because it was an easier version of AP Calc from high school. The only other stuff he graded apart from tests and quizzes was some extra credit on the exam review. That's it. Not good at math? I wouldn't recommend him. He's average. Good guy though.
Look for a different professor to take. 4 exams, 3 80-point, & 1 120-point. Last one is cumulative. Every couple weeks there was a quiz worth 10 points. Grade is based on how well you do on exams cus he doesn't collect homework. He rushed through lectures, barely reviewed for exams but rather taught new material. Good guy, terrible math professor.
his lectures were often un helpful and he said some creepy things to me a couple of times when leaving class. You will get marked down for not showing all of your work even though youre in class and he can physically see that you aren't cheating.
Very nice and wanted students to pass. Lectures are crammed and nowhere near as helpful as doing homework. Exams and the final basically make up your grade, doing even average on one might make or break your grade. Some exam content goes outside the box and definitely needs to be discussed more in lectures. Likes to ramble.
He's a very nice guy and cares about his students but he moves way too fast. Theres only 3 exams and a final so if you fail an exam you are basically done for. The entire semester he stated that we were behind so we had to learn material on our own before exams.
My friends and me took Grosse for Math 132A. One friend got an A last semester and recommended Grosse. We took him and I worked really hard for a B+. We all really liked his class. Recent comments from students with a C or worse, so maybe just talk to him if you are struggling. I agree with complaint that you have to show work, but its math.
He's a great professor if you put the work in. He gives homework but its not for a grade but you need to do it if you're going to pass the class. He's a very nice and funny guy and loves to talk with his students and make jokes. Dont skip class youll regret it. I had to reteach myself most of them time. Hes a good grader, he gives half points off.
Very engaging professor. Got straight to the point with clear notes and was very interactive with students. Always open to help out. Only semi-weekly quizzes were graded along with finals. Book work was optional, but strongly recommended. Couldn't imagine a better experience.
Super nice guy, and really understands the material he is teaching. I learned more in this class than any other math class I have been in. Super interesting class, coming from someone who has never enjoyed math.
Curtis Grosse is not for those who do not wish to do work. With quizzes every other class period, homework, while not graded, is almost mandatory. This being said, Professor Grosse is an amazing teacher of mathematics. He explains complicated math in a way that breaks it down into smaller, easier to digest parts. 10/10 would take again.
If you struggle with math, do not take this class with him. He goes way too fast and gives you little time to absorb the information before quizzing you and moving on to the next thing. Unless you want to spend a lot of time in the tutoring center or other spare time on math, I wouldn't recommend it.
Professor Grosse is a knowledgeable but fast-paced teacher. The class has lots of quizzes and exams, so staying on top of the material is key. Using resources like Unstuck AI along with the textbook can really help.
I found Prof. Grosse's class extremely frustrating due to a mix of unclear, droning lectures and esoteric criteria regarding "Showing your work." Between inconsistent claims about what counts as relevant work and his constant sidebars mid-lecture, students would often leave the classroom wondering what he was trying to teach in the first place.
Grosse makes a class that is not meant to be easy seem easy and very understandable. He is a great professor and a great person.
Professor Grosse's class required a lot of my time and energy. He had assigned weekly homework that was followed by a weekly quiz. If you did the homework and went to his office hours to clarify what you didn't understand, you did fine. Same goes for the three unit tests plus final exam. I went to office hours and tutoring center every week.
Professor Grosse means well, however is very critical. Say you get an answer right on the quiz, if every little step wasn't shown, and it wasn't the way he taught you, you didn't get full credit. HOWEVER if you got an answer wrong, he would find ANY reason to give you partial credit for that questions. His lectures can be very confusing.
This is first time Grosse taught Math 125, but organized. Unfortunately requires students to show work. Just get used to his expectation about the work shown, then its fine. I do think there was people that got confused, but they didn't come to class much. I think you have to come to his class, or you miss what Grosse puts on his tests. Nice/Cares
Only grades tests. Had no graded homework, only weekly quizzes and the exams. Post ABSOLUTELY nothing on canvas, not even exaggerating. Class isn't mandatory,if you skip even just one, you will fall behind. I missed a class because of a medical problem and had emailed him for the notes, and instead he told me to get notes from a friend, not from him
Professor Grosse is a phenomenal instructor. He gives clear lectures with tons of examples and is more than willing to help students outside of class. The only grades are quizzes and tests, but the questions are extremely similar to the homework.
Fantastic professor. I was a little dumb and failed his class the first time, and decided my best course of action would be to take it with him again. He did everything he could to help me succeed the second time and I did so much better. Take any required class with him that you can. Funny, kind, and smart. No homework, 7 quizzes, 3 exams, 1 final
He is great! Had him for Exam P in 2014.
Prof. Grosse is an amazing professor, this class is not easy at all but he makes it easier to understand and will work with you and explain it in multiple ways and find a way to get you to understand it. He is also an amazing person in general and has a big heart for his students.
This is a difficult class, but Professor Grosse does care about his students and wants to see them succeed. Very clear but difficult grader. If you are struggling at all, go to office hours as much as possible. Take good notes and do the homework because all of the quiz questions are based on the homework.
This course is very difficult if math is not your strong suit. The final exam will determine whether I pass or not. I would highly recommend going to SEVERAL office hours and building a relationship with him. Attendance is so important. If he sees you are doing those 2 things, he will likely help you out a bit for final grade. You got it!
He is a good professor. If something is questionable, he favors in the student's way. Allowed two misses per class and drops lowest quiz grade. Quiz every other class but based on homework. Not super difficult if you don't fall behind. Usually has extra credit on every exam. He is a little hard to understand and talks slow but explains things well.
