Not a particularly hard class, just take it with a different prof. Un-organized, wastes class time, one would be better off just reading the book and taking the tests.
If I'm saying that ART 102 is a very hard class, use your judgement. DON'T TAKE THIS TEACHER. Unorganized, doesn't specify exactly what material will be tested.
Summer class with her sucked. We spent 4 hours on one image. She talks ultra slow also. Don't take her- she's so boring.
She is not organized. There is not a syllabus to follow. But if you talk to her you begin to better understand her.
Not a hard class, just very unclear about what exactly will be on midterm and final- you end up reading the whole book only to find out it's on two images she mentioned in lecture in passing. Unorganized. Great class, take a different teacher.
very nice lady, but doesnt have a clue
she is a nice women, really tries hard to get you interested, but really i terribly boring class...take a different teacher
she means well, but just gets a little boring sometimes. I would not suggest taking her as a morning class! You will fall asleep!! she had a genuine passion for the subject matter though, but gets a little caught up in it at times. only take if u like art
She's unclear at first, but as she explains things further, you gain a sense of understanding of the material. Always means well, and is a fair grader. Unorganized as Hell, though. Pretty amusing and interesting teacher otherwise, though.
i took her for both of my required art courses. very boring but easy. show interest and youll be fine. midterm and final consist of memorizing paintings which is difficult if you have over 50 images but there is a curve at the end.
Her class is rediculous, she definitely has great intentions but sometimes it just turns out to be rediculous. She is a very understanding person though so it depends if you want a nice teacher or good class
Art History over the summer was awsome. It's very easy. All we did was go to the Art Institute, and talk about what was presented in class. One quiz, which was very easy. No final or midterm.
Very passionate about the subject. If you're into art history you'll be fine. She doesn't give a lot of assignments (at least they are not hard) and midterm and final basically consist of identifying images discussed in class!!!!
the WORST teacher i've ever had. Unclear of her expectations, did not follow the syllabus at all. Lacked any continuity or organization in her lecture or grading. Gives absolutely no feedback on the exams or papers. Will never take a class with her.

shes such an easy teacher, also really helpful shes a passionate woman about her subject and though she loses herself sometimes you understand what shes saying
A total idiot. Seriously- the most boring woman alive. She talks like 1 mile an hour and I would just wish that she spit out the words. Didn't learn a thing and a waste of my summer tuition. My suggestion- she's easy- but a total waste of time.
I can't say enough BAD things about this lady. Extremely boring, unclear, very unfair when it comes to grading. I'm an A student and barely pulled a B- in her class. She should not be teaching!
Disorganized, dazed and confused. VERY boring. Attitude. Midterm, Final, 1 Paper. Allowed final to be optional (not guarannteed in future classes). MEAN and RUDE. I got an A (pure luck), but most will not. Take a more interesting prof.
if i'm saying that ART 102 is a difficult class... USE YOUR JUDGEMENT. this teacher was horrible, except once when she hit her head on a shelf and i laughed
She is very unorganized and even admits to being a tough grader especially if you are not an art major. All of the negative comments listed below are true. If you need this class for a requirement, take it with another professor.
The worst class and prof I have had at Depaul. I love art history but I didn't learn a thing. Refund should be given. It was wasted time and money. She is very unclear, grades unfairly, very flighty. Nice lady, very qualified, but shouldn't be teaching.
This was the stupidest woman I have ever met. I showed up for the class on the first day, and never showed up again. My mid-term "quiz" was a joke, and I got a B on it without buying the book or having any art knowledge whatsoever. Easy as he
well how am i supposed to write a 4 pags paper with no double space, no text book and her unclear explaination!..i'm lost in this class..! and she is rude!
She is so easy. No books, just show up with a notebook and take notes. She is pretty boring, but sometimes she's cool. She let me re-do a pop quiz that I failed. Plenty of extra credit oppurtunities.

Yes this lady is dumb, and she is not very helpful but getting an A was cake. I turned in my midterm 4 weeks late and she gave me an A. Class is boring and slow, but there is no book for this class, all u need to do is show up and sleep and you will get at least a B.
c'mon. sweetest lady ever. a bit unclear/disorganized but once she figures things out she is a good prof. with achievable expectations. she <3s discussion and enjoys the ppl that interact. an A is defintely achievable. give her a try.
terrible
Boring class, but we got to go to the art institute.
She's not that bad and nice. She just wants class discussion and more interaction.
She is a nice person, however as a teacher she needs to be more prompt and organized. she never gave us any feedback on what she expected from us. the class was mostly boring except the readings taught many things. however, I would never take her again.
dropped her class immediately

I really like her. She is really nice and passionate about Asian Art--There was no homework, there was one test and one pop quiz. I do agree about the nervous breakdown thing--it kind of made everyone really nervous.
this woman is insane. clear and simple. she goes off on tangents and makes no sense whatsoever. she also looks like george bush.
She is highly disorganized and tends to go off on a tangent.I took the class to get an easy A,but that didn't happen. She's a really nice lady, but seriously needs to take control of her class becuz its sad how people walk over her.I felt like I learned nothing but wasted my time. She needs to change the way she teaches.Speak in class, she'll like you

Class is very disorganzed. The professor is such a procrastinator. Only a few lecture notes are posted, the ones posted are mostly just plain photo slides w/o any captions or explanation. Her Gradings is not even fair. Do Not Take This Prof.
I loved her!I would take all the classes with her, although lectures r somewhat boring, you learn a lot of how to describe art with your senses, very interesting! No homework,if so, super easy. She is very nice and funny, she's crazy in the good sense.Good grades are achieved with creative writing, she will like u if you do drawings in your assignments
Do not take! Very disorganized! She knows the subject but cannot teach it at all.
This is the worst professor, I've ever had. You would think after years of teaching, she would know how to speak in front of a class. She gives a ridiculous amount of reading at one time and if you are NOT an art or art history major, you will not be able to follow references she makes, and will make you feel worse than the rest of the class.
She does not know how to teach, also does not know how to present the class material. NEVER used books in class. Don't take her if u want to learn the material.
work load is light, but the exams are hard. lectures can get a little boring, but she is a really nice lady and means well. only take her if you are actually interested in the subject.
Although nice and terribly apologetic, she is a HORRIBLE teacher. She cancelled class 4 times, wasting our money. We were to cover Japan, China and India.. and we were still on Japan at week 7. No syllabus and we made our OWN final project...which she gave no guidelines for and then graded poorly. Avoid her!
Her tests are a challenge because you have to keep up with a lot of readings and also take good class notes, but she is a lenient, generous, and understanding professor.
Wow...she is horrible...This class was the biggest waste of time ever. she can not teach at all. I came out of that class knowing nothing. Her exams are hard and at a level that she is at.
She is sooo boring, if you don't get your coffee before class, you might bring your pillow. Her exams are extremly hard, where she will make you memorize things you won't need for the exam.
Okay, she is the worst professor I've ever had. She is incredibly boring and has long pauses during lectures that cause the class to drag, and drag. And for the paper, don't expect to know any of the works because they are nothing like what was discussed in class. Plus, she never went over how to write an art history paper. I do not reccommend her.
I thought this class was really boring, the dim lights and powerpoint every single day wants to put you to sleep. However, the professor is extremely smart. She knows her stuff really well, there is a a loooot of material to cover! dont even buy textbooks, cuz you wont even use them. the midterm was really easy if you STUDY the midterm review.
If you value sanity, do not take HER. If you value an easy A, go ahead. Her lectures are unorganized, dull, and have nothing to do with the subject. No midterm, no final, just 2 projects a 6th grader could do. She's a sweet lady, but she really will put you to sleep. Doesn't use the book, don't even bother.
I really can't believe the poor reviews here. Professor Hansman is sweet as pie, passionate about the subject, and would offer ANY additional help you needed if you only ask. She encourages participation and students ideas. She grades fairly. I want to put her in my pocket. She's the best. I only regret I've maxed the classes I can take with her.
I cannot stand this website and think it is for students who are looking for an easy A/Should return back to high school. That being said, this professor inspired me to get on here to tell you DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. IT IS USELESS AND SHE has NO IDEA what she's talking about. KILL ME. If you want to waste your money learning nothing, take her class
After taking her class and getting an A- I still have no idea what it was about. She is unorganized and impossible to follow. Do not take her if you can avoid it.
i cant believe people are so negative about her! shes an absolute sweetie. Cutest little lady I ever met. She brought us candy the other day because she missed a class. HAA 115 VERY INTERESTING. especially if you love art i strongly recommend this class.
Super unorganized. Basically she stops mid sentance and says something else. Powerpoints are all over the place. She's a really nice lady but a horrible professor.
WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD YET!! She just simply doesn't know how to teach and she seems to grade in a completely subjective way. If you get stuck taking a class with her I have one piece of advice, drop out of school and cut your losses.
She's sooo sweet. I took the Buddhist Art and I gained so much knowledge about Buddhism. She's sooo smart and interesting. Best professor ever. Just love her!
take a class with this professor if you want to be miserable. she is constantly trying to prove that she is the smartest person in the room. she takes everything very personal and will personally attack students. im sure she means well, but has a slight paranoia and anger problem
She's scatterbrained and all over the place. But the woman is adorable. If you get past the ridiculous amount of times she says "um" in a given class, she's pretty great. She's pretty crazy, but a pretty good professor. She knows her stuff and gets really passionate about it.
She is the cutest and sweetest lady ever which makes me feel bad saying that she should not be a teacher. She clearly loves and knows what she is talking about but is the most unclear and confusing teacher I have ever had. She does not know how to teach to students who do not possess prior knowledge of the subject matter.
She is a very easy prof. requires like 3 books but very rarely were they used. take if interested in art/art history. incredibly easy. the complainers are the people who dont rly appreciate art. be sure to participate in discussions! that is a guaranteed A if u contribute intellectually. she's funny too, not a boring class at all. there is groupwrk
The most unorganized professor ever. The powerpoints are all over the place and she doesn't define specific pieces to know for the exam. Slow at posting slides, and it rooms hours to get her notes under control enough to study. Nice lady, but boring and confusing class. Would not recommend
I absolutely love art and Buddhism and I thought she was a very sweet lady. HOWEVER, she constantly jumps back and forth between slides, making it extremely hard to take notes. This makes studying for exams the WORST. It's funny that she is a professor of Buddhist art yet she is very eccentric and emotional. Would not recommend.
I love Dr. Hansman. As an adult student, I love how deep her lectures are. A lot of kids don't appreciate it her intellectual and deep lectures. She barely gives out any work and her classes are all lecture. She is very nice and outspoken. If you want to learn, take her. Her work is also easy. I feel bad for her cause she's so passionate too
Though this was a summer class, Dr. Hansman barely gave any work. Tests were kinda tough, but not too bad given the amount of work done. She is super understanding and really cares about her students!! Super available and only wants to help. Super passionate and loves what she's teaching though she is incredibly disorganized and goes on tangents
I thought I took ASIAN ARTS but this class should be BUDDHISM ARTS, in Asia. I am Asian and I love Asian cultures but this class and her lecture is sooo boring. I used to think nothing about Japanese culture will ever make me bored, but she DID it. And her Chinese pronunciation kills me, especially when she tries to pronounce everything Chinese.
Nice old lady. Has trouble finding her words so she repeats herself a lot. Lots of annoying papers that dont make sense. Final consists of two in-class essays. The class is easy and is a completely blow off course. Dont buy the books you won't need them. Lots of class discussions. She marks people tardy if they are late by a minute.
I don't even know where to start with her. Avoid her at all costs. Lectures are terrible. Test info is horrible and there is no homework so your grade is based off of the mid-term and final.
Curt is a smart woman, her lectures would be good if I cared about Asian art. If that is not your focus, this class will suck. She has a big brain and subtle humor, but the class is just so dry sometimes and too easy to blow off. She constantly forgets to take attendance and the content is boring
I took this for credit. I also took this because it looked easy. Both are true, but holy crap don't put yourself through it. I have never been so bored in my life. She's either sorta happy, or mad. She's also is rediculously disorganized. My 8 year old cousin would do a better job. Save yourself the time and money and take a different class.
Very few assignments were given to actually apply yourself. It can be very disappointing if you can't focus due to disinterest.
. All the information I learned in class was both enjoyable and well planned as I felt she prepared us well for the final and midterm. She can get a bit off track and frustrated with herself for it, but that's just part of her charm. Overall, Prof. Hansman is a sweet, well traveled lady who loves helping her students and sharing her passion of art.
Unorganized and self confused at what she wants done. Don't take her class will make you write two final papers. Very misleading and always adds to more then whats needed.
I love this teacher! Professor Hansman is kind and passionate! I had her for Buddhist Art. I learned a lot from her class and I had fun doing it. She was very understanding throughout the entirety of this fall quarter (online learning due to COVID). Overall a relaxed and sweet teacher. She is the reason I became an Art History Minor! TAKE HAA220!
This woman is very nice, but she literally could not be worse at giving lectures if she wanted to. She talks at half the speed of an average person and says everything in the most overly complicated way that she possibly can. She also seems to expect you to already know what she's talking about before explaining it. DON'T TAKE BUDDHIST ART WITH HER
The professor is such a wonderful lady but she wants us to spend 9 hours doing her work load and the feedback she provides it's not great.
Dr. Hansman's lectures were monotonous, disorganized, and frankly, frustrating to sit through. Fortunately, attendance was not mandatory. Though I not would recommend it, the class was very manageable, with several extra-credit opportunities offered and Hansman making herself very accessible outside of it.
This class was very easy. She only asks for you to participate. A very easy grader (in this class). She talks a little slow or often repeats herself. Lectures can be boring, but it's a very easy class. Lots of reading, so be prepared for in-class discussions. Very flexible with due dates, just be upfront about it. Overall, nice lady :)
The slowest talker ever. All we did in class was listen to lectures. The assignments were required reading. If you listen to everything including students in the discussion as well as professor, and do all the heavy reading, you will survive. The Professor was understanding with Covid and was nice with feedback and help. Overall, pretty difficult.
Super sweet lady, but extremely disorganized and a complete mess. Super hard to follow. Easy class to pass, but I left with a headache almost every lecture. She's a scatter brain
AWFUL. I'm sure she's a nice lady outside of class but in class she was incredibly rude to students. I asked a simple question about a rubric and she snapped and yelled that she can't do everything fo us. She would get very angry at anyone for asking a question. She talks herself in circles and sounds like she has no clue what shes teaching.
She is a very sweet woman. She only cares about you showing up and getting all the work done and is not a tough grader. She is fair and she is passionate about what she is talking about. She will always answer your emails and will always help you. I enjoyed having her as a professor.
Honestly I do not understand why she has so many negative rates, she is a really sweet and hilarious professor. She makes sure everyone is on the same page and would explain the topic over to you if you don't understand it. You have to read a lot fro the class but it makes sense since art is a very dense topic.
i truly believe that this woman is experiencing memory loss issues. she would often talk herself into circles and get so confused in what she was saying. she would also lash out at students. i once asked if there would be a instructions on d2l for an essay that was due the following week, she yelled at me for expecting too much of her. like???
She is probably the most boring instructor I've had in my 15 years of being in school. I really did try to be engaged in the course, but I found myself struggling to stay awake most lectures (I get about 8 hours of sleep each night). She keeps us past the time she's supposed to let us go out. I haven't learned anything that I will carry with me.
Don't take her especially if you are not an art major. Classes are boring and hard to pay attention, goes off track often, expects you to understand everything and to be engaged in class. I found this class to be very difficult for it being an intro class.
it's like she doesn't know what she's doing. yells at us, apologizes, does it again. gave a 0 on an assignment even though I turned it in on time and had to email her about it multiple times. too much reading material. shes too old to be teaching. expected too much for an intro class. it's like she wandered on campus and they somehow let her teach.
A little boring and pretty disorganized. Will expect you to participate but she often interrupts when you try. Creates assignments on the fly which is really frustrating when you have to prepare your assignments around all your classes!!!!! Not impressed, take someone else's class if you can
If you forgive her disorganized nature, she seems to really care about her students. Class isn't so hard, and is much more fun than other similar classes.
RUN! Read no more, just trust a fellow senior who took Asian Art. The textbook is expensive. She should retire. Is she delulu? cuz it ain't the selulu. Someone desperately chose the wrong career. There's a midterm and final and no one gets an A. Everytime I see her on campus I just wanna ask her for a refund or do something non-vincentian of me.
I have never been more bored in any class. It's like she talks for the sake of talking. I did not learn a single thing and still passed with a good grade. Sure, it's easy, but at what cost? I don't think she's fit to be a professor. I found myself getting really mad just at how badly it's structured. I would heavily advise not taking this class
how is this woman still allowed to work here?? to my knowledge, she has received numerous complaints from students that the board is very aware of. she is rude, disorganized, talks in circles, and should NOT be allowed to talk to students the way she does. she would randomly lash out at for things like yawning or asking a question.
She can go on tangents about whatever she wants to talk about and overall feels super slow in class. I took this class because I needed 1 more class for my explore Chicago and man did I wish I choose a different teacher. She is super uptight about timeliness and yelled at a student for showing up 10 minutes late.
I have no idea what people are talking about here. Every professor will have their pros and cons, and Dr Hansman is no exception. She is a truly kind woman who cares about her students and is passionate about what she teaches. She may get off track every so often during lecture but it would help if students weren't walking out every five minutes.
I was shocked to see so many bad reviews here! Wow. She was so nice to me and the whole class; all she wants is for students to participate. I would definitely take her again.
She is sweet and caring, and the course material is not very difficult. But, at least someone with hyperactivity disorder, her classes are a drag to sit through. Obvious signs of mental degeneration are showing, which make it difficult to follow her occasionally fragmented sentences. Outside the negative, she uplifts her students to try to excel.
Kind professor, tends to ramble but if you are interested in art history it's enjoyable enough. She wants people to participate so try your best to talk. One group presentation to start, two essays, and a final short presentation. Easy enough, but a bit boring if it isn't your favorite subject. Do the work and come to class and you'll be fine.
This was a challenging class-not because of content, but because I could not fathom what I was supposed to learn. 3 required textbooks abt Asian Art History, but most of the time she has the image in her lecture. why did I spend $60 then?? Her PowerPoints are hard to read. 5 assignments total with unclear grading. Rambles and talks in circles.
Class has significantly more content than any other 100s level class. Expected to memorize centuries of art, artists, and social/religious history of China, India, and Japan. Admits the study guides are much denser than midterm and final. She is clearly passionate but there is a huge disconnect between her teaching style and the needs of students.
