He is an interesting guy. He is there to help, but you must do your all your homework if you want ot pass the class.
If you do all the readings and assignments you'll do fine. The way he teaches is understandable. If you have questions to ask about class work, he'll be more than happy to answer them. And surely, you'll understand it better after asking. I didn't take this class expecting to like it,but do now.
He makes the class so easy. Just do the homework and read for the quizzes and you'll do fine
The class is a joke but he tries to get us interested in the subject matter.
Great teacher. He knows what he is talking about and if people who dislike him give him a chance they would change their minds. Keep up the great work, Mr. Peldo. and I hope you teach me in another class again.
ew...not hot....not fun...no relation to university 101 at all! you learn nothing about chico or anything interesting...nice guy and very approachable but the class was a joke!
Great teacher, great guy. He was great inside and outside of class. He was very helpful, and always available in office hours. The Univ class had nothing to do w/ Univ that was the only downfall. He was easy to talk to and was just an all around great teacher to have
he talked down to our class like we were back in high school and gave a test every friday afternoon so noone could miss class.
Very boreing, avoid at all cost.
The guy is boring and really there is no point in going to class cause it's easier to understand from the textbook. Teaches like a high school teacher and is kind of rude
He talks about how rediculous Ratemyprofessor.com is, and I can see why! (No good reviews, boo-hoo). He is pretty rude and confusing. How can someone make Logic confusing!? He talks down to students, especially people in back row. Best way to sum it up: He is on a POWER TRIP. Besides that, he is kind of friendly, not THAT bad.
Peldo says that this site is a biased sample-- well i rate all my professors no matter what. His desire for control made me not want to come to class; it seemed like he wanted it to be structured more like high school. He sometimes would make us stay until he dismissed us. Easy stuff, do your quizzes and you'll be fine, but i don't recommend him.
i hated this guy. he was annoying and he down graded me based on my views.
confusing
kind of hard to understand. if you go to his office hours and talk to him, he usually wont call on you in class, and will usually curve at end of semester
This class was horrible - made me never want to take another philosophy class. He is extremely confusing and unclear. He is bad at answering questions and does not seem like he knows what he is talking about at all.
Very helpful. He tries to help students as much as possible. Interesting class and many examples to learn from.
I'm terrified of him calling on me in class in a huge lecture hall. He calls on people randomly and most of the time you don't know the answer or what he's even asking. The class is tolerable, but sort of sucks. Whatever. He is alright and at least knows what he's talking about I guess. The material is just really dry and sort of boring.
He was very fun to learn from. It was my favorit class.
He is a interesting teacher that really know a lot about logic. He is hard to follow sometimes...BUT if you read the materials like you are suppose to and not fall asleep in class it's not that difficult to understand!...Apply your self that why you are in college people!!!...
Use his office hours! He is more than willing to help you if you have trouble in class. It's a lot to take in. In class he may seem abrasive, but he's really cool if you go see him during his office hours. I cant emphasize this enough - see him during office hours! You will learn a lot from Peldo.
Logic class is just okay. This guy is obnoxious and uses the same political examples all the time, which is annoying even though I agree with many of his views. Also, it doesn't help me understand when you use the same example over and over again. The content was easy for me, but very hard for others. I suggest a different prof if you can.
attendance is mandatory-everyday.class was interesting, some days are worse than others.reading is not required but...make sure you study everything possible for the tests-dont slack.take weekly online quizzes seriously, every point counts!see him in office hours-very helpful!overall this was not a breeze but if you put in the effort you can get an A
Curtis is AMAZING. I hope he sees this because who ever said he's on a "power trip" needs to leave my man alone. I look forward to his classes and wouldn't mind staying over 50 minutes
Professor Peldo is probably the best teacher I have had so far. You can tell he probably knows alot about the material, which makes me feel good. I would take his class again, except he already gave me an A. lucky me
Easy Class. Horrible Teacher. If you enjoy being ridiculed daily and given the same examples over and over again, take his class. Nice enough guy. Not a very effective teacher. Come to class and take notes..you'll get a good grade.
Makes class a little awkward with his sense of humor and way of speaking, but he knows his stuff and he tries to help you understand. Content: B- Delivery:C- Organization: A+
Great teacher, Best I've had in my 3 years of college. Extremely well informed, great delivery, and very passionate about his topic. Critical thinking is extremely interesting and important, he brings it to life. If you don't care to learn don't take the class, or reconsider what you are doing in a University
He definitely knew what he was talking about but was pretty rude to students. I don't agree with his style of teaching. He will call on random people in class and threatened to give pop quizzes when students could not answer the question. This isn't high school...
He clearly has a love for Philosophy and this makes for some worthwhile class discussions. But his tests were bad. Lots of problems were directly copied from the readings but with slight wording changes. Many people took the tests as groups, since they were online, and that made them much easier.
This course was just for my theme and it took up way more time than my actual major courses (Finance). It is really time consuming and the exams/quizzes are over anything from the books or notes and theres a ton. Tough course, willing to help but I wouldn't recommend it. Only reason I got a B was because the final was online.
This class took up all of my time. It is veryhard to get away with not doing the readings for this class. I also found the exams were near to impossible because they were practically word for word out of the book, not just understanding the material. Overall I have to say that this professor takes his class seriously and is willing to help
Hard class. Very time consuming. Weekly quizzes, also hard. Definitely need to study for all the quizzes, midterms, and the final! He is slightly rude but is nice when you go to his office hours. If you always go to class, take notes, and study, you'll pass.
He is one of those GE professors that thinks his class is more important than your major classes. There is way too much work in this class. You read like 40 pages a week of articles and then on quizes he asks for specific quotes from them. A long paper and group project is also req. Take a different GE if you can
Peldo is somewhat cocky at first, but knows a lot and is extremely helpful during office hours. I ended up enjoying his class and passing! Almost all quizzes are online which is nice... Study group! Definitely need to study for the final. Go to class, take notes, see him if you need help and you'll be just fine.
LOVED Pedlo!! I didn't think I would succeed in his course but his guidance and advice helped me land a A in the class. Highly recommend him as a Professor.
really awesome!!
I did not like Peldo's teaching style at all. He is very rude to students and will call on random people in class to answer questions. I do the weekly readings just because I'm scared to be ridiculed if he calls on me and I get it wrong! That said, he is nicer1 on 1. Attendenace is necessary. The tests and in class activities are generally easy.
I LITERALLY HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS CLASS. Peldo is extremely passionate about this class, which makes him arrogant and RUDE. The subject matter is painfully boring. 30 page PDFs to read before every class, that are a joke. You need to go to lecture just to figure out what the hell the reading was about. Lectures are dry and long. AVOID!!
Talks like he's Sherlock.. It makes it hard to understand the materials. He needs to make terms & concepts more clear by putting them in more understanding ways. .He needs to slow down & ask if his students are comprehending the materials. He needs to explain the small picture before cutting right to the big picture. SLOW DOWN.
The class itself is pretty interesting, but a lot of reading and a lot more time consuming than I expected from a GE. Peldo is very knowledgable in what he talks about, but is often rude to students and calls on them randomly. If you are looking to take a critical thinking GE I would suggest taking another course or professor.
Peldo is one knowledgeable professor. Loves to teach this subject. He is funny at times. Uses life stories to relate the lectures. Willing to help you understand the content. He can be concerned if students don't do the reading. He is nice when you talk to him after class. Take him, you will get the most out of him than any prof or the book alone.
Peldo to me was, very rude if you didn't understand something, would call you out in front of the class, intimidating, and overall was an unpleasant teacher to have. His tests are difficult, but the group in class work will help your grade if you do poorly on the tests, and he also offers extra credit. This class gave me a headache.
He will randomly call on you if you aren't paying attention, so make sure to do the reading and just make sure to participate in class discussions.
Peldo is kind of rude. Whenever a student had a question, he would be sarcastic and make them feel dumb for asking, which is why I never asked any questions even though I had so many because the subject was tough. Definitely read your textbook and keep up on assignments so you'll know what to do on the tests. Final was easy.
Peldo is a very nice person, and is very willing to help you with anything in office hours. The course material can be VERY challenging if you do not do the readings. Textbook is dry, but he explains it very well in lectures. Mainly uses power points (take notes!!), videos (sometimes), & in class activities (don't skip, these make/break your grade)
I have never had a teacher that was so rude! I took this class my first semester of freshman year and all my classmates and I were terrified of him. He made us all feel stupid and scared. I would NEVER take this class again!
I ABSOLUTELY loved Philosophy 102 with Peldo. Everyone on this thing complains because he grades hard and is mean. He just doesn't have sympathy for people who arent willing to put in effort!! But he is so inspirational and loves what he teaches. you definitely wont be bored in his class. Take his class if u can !!!!!
Do not take this class with Peldo! If you can, get a different Professor! Read the text book or you will not do good! I hated this class!! Exams are hard.
My experience with PHIL 10 2 was overall good. Hes actually a really nice guy who cares about his students if you actually take the time to go into office hours before exams. I didn't find the exams necessarily hard but I also put time in. He does a good job of covering everything in class but in able to fully understand you need to read for sure.
The reason why i'm a vegetarian + my favorite professor of all time
Tests are not that difficult if you put in the effort. Read all the chapters since that is really helpful on your midterms. Show up to class prepared. Go to office hours. As long as you do the assigned reading, you should be fine.
His class wasn't to hard but it wasn't the easiest. He makes it seem like its going to be sooo tough & he says if you don't read the chapters you won't pass the class but thats false. He mostly goes over all the material you need to know in his lecture & its on the test so just study your notes.I never read a chapter the whole semester & I did fine
Peldo is the best lecturer I've ever sat through. He is engaging, uses lots of examples, and his class is more than understandable. You will learn so much & studying pays off!
Definitely one of my favorite classes. Really opened my eyes to look at things in new ways. He has great lectures and he is entertaining. Take your work/reading seriously and answer questions in class and youll have a good time. Also if you sit in the back corner of the room, you have the highest chance of being called on if no one answers.
Pretty cool guy but kind of pedantic and thinks that he is better than everyone for knowing certain things. But that's just him, he is great as a teacher and knows how to teach logic and critical thinking. I passed his class and cannot complain.
Peldo is a great teacher. Yes, he will call you out to answer questions about the material in class. that's why you should keep up with the reading and show up to his lectures. He made Logic interesting by connecting concepts to real-world issues. Some may think he's rude, but I just think he is brutally honest and wants to the best for his student
Peldo was a really cool guy the first day. The second day and on, he has been not good. He makes you feel guilty for asking questions, embarrasses students publicly, and expects students to treat the class as if its their major. Makes the class way harder than necessary- takes last score on online quizzes, not the best score. Dont take his class.
Took Professor Peldo this semester and has hands down been the worse professor I've had during my time at Chico State. Most of class is reluctant to ask questions, because there has been many occasions where he has insulted students in front of the entire class. He also tends to rant off about climate control, instead teaching us about philosophy
Not only the worst professor Ive had during my time in Chico, honestly the worst person Ive been forced to stay in a room with. He is condescending and forgets he is a philosophy teacher instead of a global warming activist. Dont do it to yourself.
This guy is literally the worst professor that I have ever had. If you take his class, be prepared not to learn anything because he certainly doesn't know much of anything. Be warned. He is a complete waste of space and really should not be considered qualified to be a professor.
This class is the reason I picked up a minor in philosophy. At first I thought it was going to be another class I dreaded, but fell in love w/ this class and it truly has to do with the professor. Peldo can be intimidating to students who do not care about the class. However, if you're someone is open minded I highly recommend taking it w/ Peldo.
Curtis Peldo might be one of the best professors I've ever had. He teaches you exactly how you can manipulate language and how being a critical thinker can help you win arguments. PHIL 102 was always the class I looked forward to this semester and I think anyone could enjoy his lectures. The work was hard at first, but it got easier later on.
Peldo is a great professor. He will answer any question that you need, and lectures are usually clear and to the point. Just make sure that you pay attention and listen during lecture
Peldo is a hard professor, he goes through his slides super fast and expects us to know and understand everything we read. His grades are made up of 500 points, 100 in class assignments, 100 online assignments, 100 midterm 1, 100 midterm 2, 100 final.
Professor is not an easy teacher, and requires a lot.
Condescending, makes fun of studies when they ask questions, if you are not one of his favorites he wont give you the time of day
I had Peldo two years ago and his class STILL haunts me to this day. I came to give you a warning. Not only is he condescending but he wont even try to help you if you ask for it. I went to his office hours multiple times and he told me to figure it out or you wont pass. Id rather slam my head in a car door than ever have to see him again. :)
One of the worst experiences I have ever had with a professor. I have never seen a professor that is more condescending, rude, and impatient. He goes on long angry rants when students don't volunteer to answer questions in class, and almost every class threatens to start giving pop quizzes. I have too many bad stories to count- Avoid this man!!
This class was not good. I barely understood anything and all of his examples revolved around global warming and politics. I don't recommend taking this class to anyone.
Not the hardest class ever but it won't be a cakewalk. Fortunately, Peldo made it very nice to learn and is great with help outside of class. I really enjoyed it as a freshman and I recommend the class! My only advice is to take notes on all new terms for the tests and exams, it will help you TREMENDOUSLY! Good luck!
This is the worst prof I have ever had at Chico State. He is condescending and thinks that his class is the only class that matters. He yells at you every class and wonders why people do not show up to his class. I would rather lose points than sit in class and suffer. Also do not wear greek life clothing to his class bc he thinks you are a cheater
Attendance was not required for this class however, if you do go it's very easy to get a good grade on the test. This class is easier than PHIL 102. However, Peldo can be harsh at times and is not the most patient person. He does call on people and does expect everyone to be very prepared and have done the reading before class.
Lectures are extremely long and you have to take pages of notes. Only really teaches you if you ask him. Not alot of homework, just quizzes every week. You get three tries on the quizzes though.
This class is conventionally useful but the final is cumulative and 30% of your grade. The professor is intelligent, although he has a big ego that ultimately negatively affects the learning experience.
Peldo was a GREAT professor! He allowed us 3 chances on all our quizzes which really helped my grade. He doesn't mark attendance but definitely go to class, you will miss out on important lectures and potential extra credit assignments! The class itself was pretty manageable, just study hard and pay attention and you can pass! He was great :)
There isn't homework, but there are weekly quizzes, which you are given three chances to take. This sounds like a simple class right?? WRONG. Throughout the semester you think you're going fine until you reach the last few weeks. He throws the hardest material at you in a short amount of time. The final will kill you. Don't take this course.
He is such a tough grader. And he thinks he is a know it all cant even ask a question because he will come at you. He required attendance because he got mad people werent going to class. You have to read and buy a text book in order to pass. He does not explain anything good and expect you to know it. He was one of the worst teachers ever
Good professor overall, brings up a lot of interesting topics. The textbook is cheap and up to date which is cool. He definitely was teaching with his own views in mind towards the end which was interesting.
Peldo is okay and definitely an interesting professor. He grades hard, gives an average amount of homework, and he is extremely lecture heavy. Every single class was a lecture and it was incredibly boring and tiring. I barley attended his class so I don't know how I passed. For future students I recommend going because I always missed a lot of info
Professor Peldo in my opinion, is a very good teacher. He is very good at explaining things to make sure everyone understands. The class is based off of tests and quizzes mainly, there was only like two assignments.
Peldo seems like he would be a good teacher and have an easy class but his class is mainly tests and quizzes that are based on the textbook. He just restates what the textbook says every day. He was very unwell to help me even though I was struggling in the class. Not a very nice person and has a bad view on life in general. wouldn't take again.
Material was difficult. Grade began to drop, I didn't want to fail so I emailed him asking for help & called him by his first name. Got mad & stated I can only call him by his first name once I pass & did not offer any help. This was discouraging & I failed the class. I took the class again with Brooke Moore, got 100% & understood the material.
He is very passionate about philosophy so it makes him seem very intimidating, but he is very helpful if you have questions on the material and has a great late work policy. If you are confused about anything I recommend going to his office hours because he will explain the whole lesson to you again and break it down so it is easy to understand.
Truly a wonderful professor! His lectures were easy to follow and very interesting. It felt like he really cared about each student and wanted us to learn, and he was patient and helpful during office hours. Weekly readings, discussion boards, and in-person quizzes. The quizzes are easy if you do the reading.
This was the best class I have taken at Chico by far. I highly recommend Peldo. You should get a good grade as long as you GO TO CLASS, read the assigned chapter at the beginning of the week before the quiz, and keep up with the discussions (400 words per week). It's easy IMO because it's thought-provoking, and assignments are very interesting.
I LOVED professor Peldo! However, the final is cumulative and his study guide is just a flow chart of things we have learned, I wish I had felt more prepared, but if you attend class, take good notes, and attend office hour then you'll succeed just fine.
The most amazing professor and class. I highly highly recommend taking this class not only for the content but to also experience having Peldo. He is so skilled in his area of work and is obviously very passionate in his job. Show up to class every day and take notes and you will pass this class. That's all you have to do to understand this course.
I highly recommend Peldo's class for Phil 102. His Logic and Critical Thinking lectures were absolutely fantastic and clicked fantastically. I did not read any of the chapters, but his lecturing is so good that you get what you need from that alone. 10/10 would recommend.
At first I wasn't a huge fan of this class but it really grew on me. He is great at lecturing, and is very passionate about this subject. He is very good at his job and he truly wants you to succussed in the class.
i really liked peldo as a professor, he is clearly passionate about what he does and it is quite inspiring. His lectures can get kind of intense and he really does encourage everyone to participate , so make sure you're locked in the whole time. I enjoyed taking his class though
His class is very lecture heavy and he goes through the slides so quick that you don't even get the chance to write the material down. He's really mean and condescending and is a know it all.
20+ years of lecturing college students. He's a well oiled machine when it comes to lectures. Some students get their feelings hurt because their not reading the book, simply makes examples out of them to the class. Overall top 5 class I've ever taken in college.
Peldo was a very kind and caring professor. Sadly, you can only take handwritten notes in the class now. His lectures are pretty engaging, he always tries to crack a few jokes and make them as entertaining as possible. Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory but your grade will be brought down for missing in class assignments.
loved this guy. Very sweet. Go to class for in class assignments or your grade will drop. Either you understand the class, or you don't, I found it very easy.
I was sick with a horrible ear infection during finals and emailed him to ask for options. He told me he would give me an incomplete and said I could come back to take it the next semester. I sent numerous follow up emails to make sure he saw I accepted that. He never answered, gave me a 0 on the final, cheated me out of an A or B and lied.
very passionate about what he teaches, good professor but didn't round my 79.77% when i asked kindly..💔
Professor Peldo's classes are engaging and informative. While the material can be challenging, his lectures help break it down. Using tools like unstuck ai alongside the textbook can really solidify the concepts. Definitely worthwhile if you're willing to put in the work.
Peldo was a professor who fostered open dialogue between all ways of thinking. Peldo himself is an old school liberal, the ones who embrace free speech and political diversity. Something that's missing in our society. I disagree with the views of many students, but I don't believe they should be shunned. Never take free speech for granted.
Peldo may seem intimidating and a little cynical at times. However, talking to him one-on-one, he's a really nice guy. His lectures may seem long, but they are very interesting and fun. If you need extra help, don't feel afraid to go to his office hours. He is great at reexplaining topics and giving useful practice/advice.
This professor cold-called students in a way that felt more like shaming than participation. He once called the class “pathetic” and “posers,” which made the environment feel hostile and discouraging. I didn't feel comfortable asking for help, and that played a role in me failing. I wouldn't recommend.
Peldo's lectures are good; they make the material easy to digest and help break down hard concepts. Passionate about the subject and an engaging lecturer. He lets you make up midterms, and his in-class assignments are graded on completion. He allows multiple attempts for Canvas reading quizzes/exercises, and he also provides scans of the readings.
