Good professor. Good examples in class.
Best course I have had in a long time.
Good teacher, takes time to help students, tries to make things interesting
makes class a lil more interesting, trys to keep students motivated
A nice teacher and helpful class

Good instructor for 1st acctg class, made class interesting. Energetic + fun.
Focuses on what is important and make topics relevant.
Great teaching style for non-business majors. Uses good real-life examples!

teaches +, interactive, concerned f/students, uses research ex., career oriented
class is like falling into that pit/ monste in Return of the Jedi, unhelpful too
She's not very clear.
goes really fast. unorganized, but willing to help after class
always willing to help
Fair, clear, and enthusiastic. Really couldn't ask for a better tax professor.
best prof ive had in a long time!! took same class got an F, w/her - got an A!! she's amazing, really helps you understand the info. only teaches what you need to know for the exam! good examples in class to make material real! take her!!
This professor is absolutely wonderful! She will help you if you have any questions. Exams are difficult, but standardized. Great professor, take HER!!
take her...very helpful...easy quiz...easy hw..makes sure tha u pass the class
teaches the facts,loved her
She sucks!!!! She is very unorganized and her lectures are even worse! When she corrects things she doesn't even correct them correctly. The book sucks too, it it wrong half the time as well. Take this class if you want to learn nothing.
Don't know what course that other person was in. She is great! Energetic and there is a point to each topic covered.
Dr. B explains tax well. Go to class, do your homework, and you will do well in her class.
I did not like her class. I felt that she was disorganized and unprepared. She made a lot of mistakes in class and on exams, which really undermines her credibility. Also, she taught the class to the practicing tax professionals in class, and did not seem too concerned about those of us seeing the material for the first time. Nice lady, though.
she sucks and goes way to fast. teaches the class to graduates and i think she is skied up class half of the time.
Worst Prof. had in belk college. Waaay to fast, disorganized, and makes mistakes. Teaches as if your a practicing tax professional.
Very Enthusiastic. However, she talks fast and the notes from her website are not good for studying. For exams just make sure you know how to do any HW question assigned and also know the vocab along with basic concepts and you'll be fine. Spend time outside of class learning this stuff because she is hard to follow in class.
Dr. Blanthorne is a really great teacher. She is very helpful and classroom lectures/exercises are extremely relevant to the tests so GO TO CLASS! In my opinion, if you want to learn something take Dr. B! If you want to coast by and just get a grade (which I hope you don't) take someone else. I would recommend taking her as an instructor.
Good teacher!!! I learned a lot from her class. She does go through her notes pretty fast, but we cover a lot of material in the semester. If you want a challenge, I would recommend Dr. Blanthorne.
She needs a promotion to "Superstar Blanthorne!" Great teaching and wants her students to learn. If you are lazy, then take the lecturer guy from the IRS who is a complete joke compared to Blanthorne. I learned more about tax (B grade) than my friends who made EASY A's in that other joke of a class. She will prepare you well for the real world.
This was a terrible class. Textbook was terrible. She talks too fast, smart remarks, tests unclear, study guides (when there are any) very unhelpful. She doesn't teach the topics in a manner students can understand. Powerpoints for class are extremely vague and hard to follow after leaving class. Save yourself. Take Henline.
Nice, helpful lady. I would have liked to have the homework correspond with what we did in class, ie being due the next class period instead of being due the day that we cover the topic, because most of it is probably copied ;) i heard she was denied tenure, which is garbage. Shame on UNCC. Take her for tax, if she is still teaching there.
She definately knows her stuff; however, she taught too fast and didn't explain alot of the stuff. You have to READ the book and basically TEACH yourself. It would be nice if she can slow down her pace. Make sure you read the book before come to class or you will be behind!!! Ohter professors allows open book.
Probably the best tax teacher overall. Tests are NOT open book like some of the others, so you have to learn the material. Notes are pretty hard to understand. Everything is in shorthand and abbreviated, if you miss class, don't expect to be able to understand the notes. Tests are tough, and you need to study EVERYTHING and read the book.
TAKE HER!! She is a Great Teacher!! She is very easy to talk to and very reasonable in grading. Anyone who doesn't do well in her class is not putting forth the effort. She tries to help students in any way she can. She should have been tenured!!!!! I am glad that I am getting away from this school if they do not see what a great teacher she is!!
If you're the kind of student who relies entirely on the professor for your education, you won't like her. BUT, if you spend time doing the HW and READING the chapters you'll be fine and will make an easy A. She has a ton of great real world experience (unlike some others in the Acct dpmt) and is interesting to talk to and will help you if asked to
Explains concepts well. Goes over everything that's on exams, no surprises. She does move fast and yes you have to read the text. This is college.
I agree with parts of the previous comments. Yes, she's disorganized and she has a tendency to go too fast. However, she clearly loves teaching, she was more than helpful when I asked questions, and I learned a lot in the class. If it's true she was denied tenure, that's a shame. I'd rather have her than someone who treats students like pests.
I really liked Dr. B's class. She always showed a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and brought a lot of real world examples to the class. She also made us work hard. I also found her to be very approachable and quite helpful. My only criticism would be that she tends to teach in a more verbal fashion, and I tend to learn better in a written style
I disagree. I do not think she cares about students. Maybe some...but not all.
Very helpful, always responds to emails, go to class and do the homework...Fair grading, you have to put in the work but you will learn a lot...Great Professor
She will make you enjoy the class more than you expect.
The volume of material is intense so to do well you must put in the appropriate amount of time. And Prof. Blanthorne is always available in one way or another to clarify points she makes in class.
Easy class if you show up and do your homework. Exams require studying and reading the textbook but only the portions she specifically requests so paying attention is key. Not very time consuming homework and very helpful with any questions take her.
Hard teacher but you learn a lot. Probably one of the few classes in the business school where you get your money's worth. Go to class and pay attention and you'll do fine. Very nice and passionate lady.
I really enjoyed this class. I thought it was taught well and the teacher was interesting. I would take another class with her!
You learn a real lot in this course while she still filters out irrelevant subjects in the text book. If you put the effort in and keep up with the lectures (go to class and then read the related material in the book after), you will do fine and there will be no surprises.
Great professor, sometimes makes test questions difficult to understand, but if you ask for help, she is always available.
She is a very good teacher..
Prof. Blanthorne is an very nice professor
Her tests were impossible. She expects you to memorize way too much information. The material is actually very uselful and she is an extremely nice lady, but she gives no help with grades. There were only about 9 As in my class out of 80 students and she didn't curve. She doesn't realize how important GPAs are for business students.
Excellent eye contact that keeps all in the class attentive and focussed. Was a good communicator, often initiating lively participation among students while encouraging team work in problem solving.
Professor Blanthorne is a great professor. She always keeps things interesting and relevant. She is always willing to help you. If you do the work you will be fine.
Great professor, has a lot of energy and talks a lot. Her assignments are cool because she uses Hannah Barbera cartoon characters in the examples, which makes doing taxes fun (because you pretty much have to do that to make it bearable). Read the book and do all the assignments if you want to get an A. I didn't. I got a C.
Good class--very interesting. Exams are incredibly hard and do not reflect what she teaches in class as well as they should.
She is my favorite teacher.
First three tests are a breeze if you have a pulse and go to class. Final exam is 3 days or so after the third test, and it was not general questions. That was the only hiccup.
Dr. B is the most organized professor I've had. She tells you exactly what she wants and tries to make it as easy for you as she can. Always answers e-mails quick and is always willing to meet if you need help. Definitely puts her students first take her for sure!
Over all a outstanding professor. Class is a lot of work though. she gives you notes online and highly suggest printing them out and taking them to class. do all the hw because exam questions are very similar. also a great professor to go to if in need of help
Honestly there is no way you should be given 1 hour, 15 mins for a cumulative exam and 1 and 30 mins each for the 3 smaller exams. Her logic is way off. Needs to realize you can't have these random questions on the final that you could have never seen coming. If that's general, I would've hated to see a detailed final.
Very good professor and very enthusiastic. The problem is that she condenses too much work into a short amount of time. Once made both Chapters 5 and 6 due 3 DAYS after our last exam. Needs to understand we still have other classes to commit to, spent the entire semester ignoring most of my other classes just to keep up with this class.
great teacher u can study a lot and u may feel tired
She is very helpful.. always there if you need her. The problem is that she rush the material and exams are really short on time. But overall she is a good professor really cares about students
Professor Blanthorne is an excellent professor. She is by far, one of the best I have had in the College of Business. She explains the material very clearly and in an interesting way that makes the class not an extreme "bore" to go to everyday. You actually WANT to go to class and the material is good stuff to know! GREAT professor!
Moves very quickly. Very informative - works to help students succeed.
Tough class. Professor is useful, but she moved so fast. The exams were horrible, too detail and confused. Need very hard work for this class.
I had a very difficult semester personally and I found her to be extremely inflexible. I don't usually ask for any slack for a class, but I asked for a bit of leniency with her and I was surprised at how difficult she was about it. The next time I had an extenuating circumstance I decided that I'd rather have a bad grade than go through that again.
terrible with working with students.
Professor Blanthorne is a wonderful teacher. I had an undergrad class with her and shes much more laid back in this particular grad class. I really enjoy her teaching methods and enjoyed some of the projects we did in class. I would definitely take another class with her.
Overall, the course was a bit challenging, but it was very manageable. Each week you have to write a tax memo based off of random cases. Some of the cases involve a lot of research while others are easier than others and the answer is blatant. If you put in the time the course is easy to get through.
I enjoyed this class. It was fast paced and took an effort to keep up but the material was not overwhelming. She made it very clear in her lectures which points were most important. I enjoyed her teaching style -- very transparent, no mystery as to what would show up on a test. If only all teachers were like this one...
By far my favorite teacher at URI...I would love it if she took over for Schwarzbach as the adviser for the MAC program. Also had her for an undergrad class. She is straight-forward and passionate. Material is not hard but I definitely spent a great deal of time and effort on the weekly memos in order to get a good grade. Excellent teacher overall.
Indifferent...
Excellent professor, class was fast paced and challenging but she made it enjoyable. Moves quickly but her teaching is extremely helpful and I feel I learned a lot from her.
Good professor, moves quickly but fast pace is good for someone who likes a challenge, like myself. Makes herself available for questions or extra help if students need it. Kept the class engaged and interested. Overall good professor.
Moves fairly quick so you don't really want to miss a class. I learned a lot though. Super nice, helpful, she wants you to understand the material and will help you get there.
She was a really good professor. I never took a business class before and I learned a ton in this class. She is very helpful and approachable. She knows her information. I would recommend her to any student. Overall one of the best professors I have ever had.
She was an amazing teacher. Extremely helpful and always finding ways to help your grade. She moves a little fast but she goes over everything more then once which is extremely helpful. Take her class if you can!
The class itself was fast paced, so you need to attend class but she went over topics more than once which was helpful. She also used real life examples and different teaching methods to try and help us understand the material. Very approachable and willing to help if your willing to put in some time. Overall great teacher!
Professor Blanthorne is a great teacher!! The class is very fast paced. I took it in the fall so all my exams including the final were completed before thanksgiving, so after thanksgiving there is just a tax research project. No final during actual finals week which definitely helps. She explains everything really well but you do have to work hard!
Entity Taxation is a tough subject. Textbook is too heavy and "waffles" on. I loved going to class. Great to be able to do the homework on Connect & get instant feedback. Of all my subjects this semester I worked the hardest on this subject, but I missed the boat on an exam. Would be helpful to have a textbook that explains as clearly as Prof B.
Dr. B is a great teacher and really knowledgeable. Go to class prepared, printing out everything specified or you get a 0 for homework grade. She is also fast, so either take your own notes prior to class or follow the slide printouts. Definitely a great professor.
Dr. B is great! Make sure you go to class because that is where you learn the most. You will need the textbook for the homework, although it can be a bit confusing to follow compared to her lectures. Overall, good professor and good class.
I enjoy classes like these. The exams come directly from the homework, her slides, and anything she goes over in class. As it should be! Some teachers in this program have expected way too much from us, but this was a fair amount of work and I actually took a lot out of the class. P.S. Study hard for the first exam.
Dr. Blanthorne is wonderful! She's funny and smart and is really willing to help, especially if she can see you're putting in effort. As long as you keep up on the reading and homework and pay attention in class, you'll do great. She gives you everything you need to succeed and the class will only be difficult if you let it be.
The class is very fast paced. I did well but the class is very difficult and she is a hard grader!
The class is fast paced, difficult to keep up with the reading at times, but definitely read the book. Totally worth the fast pace though bc she lets up at the end of the semester when every other class gets nuts. Can replace one exam grade with final exam grade (beware, the final is no gimme though). Helpful & caring professor.
Dr Blanthorne is a great professor however moves fairly quickly through the material. She is a tough grader and likes for students to participate in her class. If you study and take it seriously you will do in the class.
Dr. Blanthorne is wildly smart and really knows what she's teaching. She's always more than happy to answer any questions and go back over material in or out of class. There's homework almost every day but it's minimal. Attendance isn't mandatory but you have to be there to get credit for the homework. The tests are pretty easy and theres no final
Dr. B is a really great teacher, she is super helpful and goes over everything in great depth. She makes tough subjects seem easy. She gives 3 exams, the first two are pretty easy but the last one is rather difficult, but if you put your time into it you should get a good grade. How much you put into this course is how much you get out of it.
Professor Blanthorne, Thomas, is a very good teacher. Her style of teaching is different than those of other financial accounting teachers here, but she helped me a lot. She is always there to talk and likes to get to know the students. Blanthorne wants you to work for your grade and as long as you do your work you will get the grade you deserve.
Dr. Blanthorne was one of the best professors I've had. She's fast-paced, but I found it easier to pay attention in her class because of that. If you go to class and pay attention, you will never have to read the book because her explanations are very clear and thorough. If you understand the logic of the principles, you will do great on the tests!
If you're looking for a easy teacher this is not the teacher to take. You must read in order to completely understand everything she teaches. She is sometimes all over the place which can make it even more difficult to understand her. Must pay attend or else you will be very lost.
I do not recommend taking Dr. B's class! She is very fast paced and disorganized with her teaching. She does not allow enough time for students to fully grasp concepts before moving forward. You must pay attention or you will be lost, but even if you do pay attention you could still be very confused and have no clue what is happening!
Dr Blanthorne moves very fast. As an intro to Accounting class, I found it much difficult due to her moving so quick throughout the semester. She's there for you though.
Dr. Blanthorne was a great professor. She does move fast with lectures, but if you give your undivided attention you will definitely learn and understand. Do the homework it helps you for the exams. Read the book and look at her notes. Do her activities and you will pass. And always, I mean ALWAYS be prepared for class, pop quizzes do come up.
Tax is hard with Blanthorne. So much material to memorize, and sometimes her lectures are not really clear and in depth. She goes over the material too quick. 3 exams, and a cumulative final that is IMMEDIATLEY right after the third exam. Seriously.
Dr. Blanthorne is a tough professor, and you need to put in work if you want to do well in her class. It is possible though. She goes quickly in lectures, but makes sure people understand. 3 Exams and a cumulative final before finals week, which is tough. The final replaces the lowest of the previous 3 grades. Overall she's pretty good though.
GO to class and listen! 3 exams, 1 cumulative final and 2 group projects. Do your work and you will pass. Read the powerpoints and outline the chapters. SERIOUSLY. It will help a lot.
If you don't like her, it's because you didn't try hard enough. She immediately begins the semester strong, reminding her students that the class only gets more difficult and that it requires a lot of hard work and dedication. She wants her students to do well. The most difficult, clear, organized, dedicated, intelligent and best prof I've had.
Dr. B is a great teacher. I won't lie, her class is not a walk in the park, but it you pay attention and attend class, there is no way you won't pass. She is clear in her teaching and repeats the most important things over and over. Her tests are exactly what she covers in class, no surprises. Great class, great teacher, makes you work for it!
Gives great lectures! Smart professor who knows how to teach & wants you to pass. Be prepared to earn your grade and put in the work.
One of, if not THE best business professor at URI. Straightforward, concise, and truly cares about her students.
A valuable professor in the college of business at URI. Dr. blanthorne is there for you when you need her and she is always there to help. Tax is rough, but it's manageable. She is a fair grader, and unlike most professors does not play favorites. The only negative is that she goes over things really quick, so the material can be unclear sometimes
Hard material. She moves extra fast. Definitely put some work into the class if you want a decent grade.
Dr. B is the best professor I have had at URI. She explains tough material with ease and makes you really understand it as a student. You have to put in the time and work, but it will pay off as she is a fair grader and wants you to succeed. Absolutely take her if you can, you will learn so much!
Professor Blanthorne has been my favorite professor so far at URI, and for accounting. Her lectures are clear and concise and will prepare you for her exams. She gives out study guides and only what is on the study guides is tested. 4 exams, 1 of which is the cumulative final given before exam week. 2 group projects. Great class, you will learn!
Blanthorne is a wonderful person. During our MAC 503 class, we always had a good time and laughed. I enjoyed going to class. However, the exams were unpredictable and extremely difficult. I put in a lot of effort to study about 4 days in advance and would still do poorly. She needs to brush up on some of her knowledge about certain topics.
MAC 503 is structured much like Blanthorne's undergrad class. Your two test scores and CPA quizzes are a majority of your grade. The tests are very difficult, but if you pay attention in class, do the assigned work especially the WSs she makes, as well as the DQs it is manageable. She is a fair grader and truly cares about her students.
MAC 503 is like "The Lion King on Ice." Just when you think you can't love something any more than you already do... they make it better!
Material is difficult, don't get discouraged if you don't understand the material while it is being taught. Put in the time after class to review her worksheets and it will come. Professor Blanthorne is a great professor and always willing to meet during office hours. 2 exams and 3 CPA quizzes. Good luck
Awesome professor. She's super nice and really cares about her students. The material is difficult, so you have to apply yourself. But she provides really great notes to follow and is very good at answering questions. I have had Prof. Blanthrone twice, and I've always enjoyed her class. Bonus: she bought us all dinner on the last day of class
Dr. Blanthorne is great. The class is tough so you have to apply yourself, but it does go by a little faster because she is an interesting lecturer. You will be confused in class so make sure to do review and pay attention to the activities!!!! She bases her tests off in class activities so if you understand those you should be okay.
Class is mandatory in the MSA program, so you have no choice but to take it. However, I will say that she is a fair grader and gives partial credit. Tests are not difficult if you pay attention in class, do the HW/projects and read the textbook. However, they can be tricky especially since it is not an undergraduate course. Workload is manageable.
Tax is a tough topic, but if you keep up to date with the homework and do her practice problems you will do well in the course. The tests are fair and workload is very manageable. She is always an e-mail away and responds in a reasonable amount of time. Overall great course.
Professor Blanthorne is an effective professor. She gives excellent lectures and efficient materials and resources to help you master all the tax topics and issues. She also takes extra care in your progress.
Dr. B is one of the best accounting professors at URI - she is clear, fair in testing and there are no surprises in her class. Go to lecture, take notes, study and you will be fine in her course. She is very straightforward, testing you on the same material she covers. She also really cares about her students and makes tax fun. Highly recommend!
Dr. B is one of the best accounting professors at URI. She is dedicated to her students and takes the time to meet with you to give you additional help regardless the situation. She tries to make her lectures as understandable as possible by relating to real life situation.
I had her for two courses. They were both at the masters level and I enjoyed both of the courses. I am not a tax person, but I enjoyed every class because she related it all to real life situations and allowed us to be very flexible in the way we were able to research. Overall great instructor and I would recommend her for any class she teaches.
Awesome professor who treats students with respect. Has a great attitude towards learning and is very knowledgeable. Would recommend her course to anyone at the masters level or undergrad level. Took for MAC 506 and MAC 503.
I have had Professor Blanthorne for two MSA classes, both of which were a pleasure. Professor Blanthorne takes a great interest in each student and is very fair with workload and grading.
Her lectures are easy to follow and she has PowerPoint slides posted to follow along with in class. Using the textbook can certainly help with problems, but I feel she summarized the material very well in class. All of the problems on the tests are covered at least once so be sure to pay attention. I would definitely recommend her.
Her teaching style is very straightforward, if you come to class and pay attention it is really hard to get left behind. Dr. B is one of the few professors who actually cares about her students and it makes all the difference in your learning. 100 % take her if you have the chance, you will learn more about tax than you ever thought you would!
Dr Blanthorne (thomas on ecampus) is a great professor. Her notes are clear and concise and her lectures and assignments are well planned. You can tell she cares about the subject and cares about you as a student and wants you to have an understanding of Tax. Would definitely take her again!
Professor Blanthorne is one of my favorite professors. It was an absolute pleasure taking her class and meeting her as a person. I took Individual tax with her so of course there is a lot of material and some difficulty, but she makes it seem doable and knows how to simplify the information. She has an awesome personality and is hilarious.
Her teaching style is very fast and the slide is not clear! You must read the book carefully. You have no choice, only she teaches the class. There are many definitions of examination, and she is not a hotness person.
Prof. B is an excellent teacher and really knows how to break down the material. That being said, she is a very tough grader and it is hard to get an A in her class. She moves extra fast but the end of the semester is not too stressful.
Prof. Blanthorne has a tendency to be rude and condescending. If you do not do well on exams, I do not suggest taking her class. Her examples in class are not consistent with what is on the exams which consist of 75% of your grade. If I was gifted the opportunity to give her a negative rating on this website, I would.
Dr. B gets a bad rep because tax accounting is a really hard class. If you show up to every class, pay attention, and ask questions when needed, you should do well. She explains things very clearly and methodically and will repeat herself so much to make sure everyone can understand. She is definitely one of the better business teachers at URI.
This class is hard and there is very little room for error within your grade. I had to skip other classes and work to keep up with this class. There are so many assignments it is so difficult to keep up with the material. She can be condescending through email and often avoids answering questions. I would not recommend taking her for this class.
Dr. Blanthorne was a very fair professor. Although it is a hard class it is not impossible. If you show up to class and do what she asks you to it is very manageable. Tests are a big part of the class, however she gives you a study guide for each exam that tells you what you need to study, which is very helpful. She is very accessible.
Dr. Blanthorne pushes her students to learn the material to the best of their ability. Her class is no easy A, but it's certainly doable. All the due dates are on a given schedule. Listen to her, do what she says, and maintain a positive mindset, You will probably do just fine. If you don't test well, good luck regardless who you take.
Worst professor I have ever taken at URI. She makes you pay for connect but doesn't quiz/test you on it. Doesn't provide study guides for exams. Exams are really hard and she is extremely unclear when you email her asking for help. She basically sets you up for failure. Do not take her unless you have too.
This was by far the hardest class I have ever taken at the university. Professor Blanthorne is not at all an easy teacher. The class requires a ridiculous amount of time and effort so when you have to take it be prepared to abandon all other classes in order to stay above water. Exams are extremely hard and you will not pass if you don't study.
The class is not easy because the material is not easy. She makes sure you can not just complete a tax return, but understand what you are doing. Group projects were well executed, requiring each member of the group to turn in an individual portion first, to prove they put in effort and contributed. Dont discussion questions! Will be on the exam.
Worst professor ive ever had. Exams are harder than what she goes over in class and worth 75%. She barely spends time going over material thats on the exams and makes you study most of it on your own. When you email her if youre confused shell reply in a sarcastic way and tell you she wont answer questions. Terrible. Do not recommend at all.
Class is extremely informative and gives you a great base knowledge of federal income tax. You do need to read the chapters to understand the material. Only the material she discusses is on the exams unless she specifically states you should review something on your own. Two group projects that were both fair. Put in the effort and you'll be fine
Whatever you do, take it with a different professor. By far the hardest class Ive taken here and its just because she makes it so complicated. She goes on tangents during class on the most irrelevant things. Exams are 75% of your grade and even though you studied you wont get above a B. She makes every single question so complex.
This professor makes her class so challenging for no reason at all. I received straight As in my other classes this semester and a C in her class. The optional final will not help your grade so dont bother taking it. Avoid this profesor at all costs.
The worst professor at URI by far. Tests you on material she doesn't even know how to teach. You will learn absolutely nothing, and never get above a C on an exam. Take it with a different professor.
Terrible professor who expects you to know most of the material and requires you to memorize too much information for her heavily weighted exams. Her group projects aren't informative at all and if you ask questions she wont give you a direct answer.
Slides are so confusing, don't even bother looking back at them. Lectures are not captivating. She seems passionate about what she's teaching but it just does not get transferred well. Your only hope is to read the textbook on your own. Still probably won't get an A on exams because they are so random...
I absolutely loved Professor Blanthorne and this course. I took this course in its infancy and I was new to the subject of accounting. I really enjoyed the course and the professor really understands the student's needs. As long as you are turning in the work on time, it is a very interesting course, and would take a class with this prof. any day.
Professor Blanthorne is super nice and caring! She really cares about her students. Accounting is difficult for me so if you are attending every class, you should be fine.
A really great professor I highly recommend taking again. All exams are exactly what she talks about in class and the study guides are very straight forward. Stay engaged in class and show up and it will be a fun, easy class to learn.
clearly passionate about the accounting field & very knowledgeable. the material is extremely hard though & there is so much crammed into one night (3 hr class) that can run over. overall she was a great professor and it was evident that her top priority was that her students learned the material. it was a hard class, but its not meant to be easy
Dr B is a great person and a really good professor. She really wants her students to do well. However this class is very tough. Exams are worth the majority of the grade and they are difficult. This is a class you have to show up to to do well. Only take this class if you need to for a business minor because it is a lot of work and it is difficult
Dr. B is a genuine and caring professor. She truly tries to make her class beneficial for those who show up. Her tests are hard, but she gives points if she can follow your work. I highly recommend ACC 199 with Dr. B if you are a general business minor.
test heavy as in the tests count a lot! silly little old lady who loves accounting :) very understanding! i would not take this class as an "easy credit" if ur considering it though bc it does take some dedication (thats why i got a B)
This class is more difficult than other accounting classes mainly due to subject matter. Prof. Blanthorne is knowledgeable and approachable. Show up to class, pay attention, do assignments/homework (graded on completion) and you'll do fine. Tests are hard but doable with detailed study guides provided. 2 simple group projects as well.
Professor Blanthorne wanted to see her students succeed. She expects you to put in work outside of the class and if you do just that you will succeed in the class. The material isn't the hardest but there is a lot you need to understand because it builds off of each other. She is ready and willing to help you succeed if you put in the work.
Professor Blanthorne is awesome, no better way to describe her. Her class isn't always easy but she explains things well and provides adequate resources for you to catch up on anything you miss in the event that you don't make it to class. 10/10 would recommend and I wish she taught more accounting classes here at URI!
Dr. B is a great professor even though she gets off track from time to time. She uses the whole 3 hours of class so don't expect to get out early. The tests are pretty difficult but if you put in the time to study she is clear of what is on the exam.
Professor Blanthorne was a great professor. Yes tax accounting in the masters program is difficult, but she is there for you and does not let you give up. Very caring and wants you to succeed.
This professor definitely challenges her students. Her slides are fill in the blank so it is important to come to class to make sure you get the full material. Her assignments are actually useful in real life, unlike most courses. You hand in an individual portion and then revise it with an assigned team. She is an excellent grader if you try.
Dr B has a true passion for federal taxation, which can make many lectures more interesting than they would be with other professors.
Hardest exams (3= 63% of final grade) I've ever taken and I've been in 3 ACC classes. We had to buy a $145 Connect code but she didn't like it so we didn't use it. Boring and hard to follow class time. Notes are confusing and weird, not helpful at all. Study guides aren't helpful. She refers to things in the book that I literally can't ever find.
this is one of the worst classes I've taken there are all exams and she gives out way too much homework i wasted so much money buying a textbook that she by accident told the class to get. the class is not organized do not take this class with this professor if Ur looking for an easy credits
Professor Blanthorne made us buy a $135 textbook only to use it the first week of class. She also rambles during the 1 hour and 15 min lectures instead of teaching. Don't be fooled by the 5/5 rating like I was, just pick another professor.
ACC199 was a great course to take as a non business major who wanted to pick up some business related skills. Dr B is an excellent professor and makes sure all of her students are caught up with the content. Go to class and you'll be able to get an A. Would take again 10/10
Blanthorne is great. If you even kinda pay attention in class it is pretty easy to get at least a B+. She is pretty lenient with half credit on problems, and even if you put a little you will get points. She can ramble a bit in the lectures, but if you pay attention and look at the slides it all kinda fits together and works well. 10/10
The lectures are long and there were times we went over, but honestly for the whole 3 hours I was seldom bored. She is a very good teacher and makes it very easy. It prepares you well for the CPA. Exams were really not hard if you studied, and the only reason she has a few bad reviews is from 199 for non BUS majors taking an acc elective
While Dr. B is a tough instructor, if you show up you will actually learn. She's always changing things around to suit the students and as things update in the world. Nevertheless you will gain a strong foundation in preparing individual tax returns a very practical skill to have. The class is known to be difficult but she prepares you well!
Absolute chatter box for every 100 words she says only 30 are relevant to the course. Talks extremely fast and very hard to tolerate for an 8am class. Recommend showing up to class despite this but be prepared to question your choice as an accounting major (wouldn't be the first time)
Dr. Blanthorne does an excellent job of keeping lectures engaging and relevant to real-world tax returns, using humor and stories to great effect. Classes flew by, and though the workload was challenging, I gained a lot of valuable knowledge and would absolutely take another one of her classes.
I would consider her class hard, Her exams are very tricky and lot of the material she provides do not really help with the exams. She will check in class HW once in while so just do it and go to every class. I would also say she is a more than fair grader, gives points to the student for no reason some times. Hard exams Easy grader
Dr.B is the best professor/person I have ever encountered in all my years at URI. I love her and her class. She is understanding (obviously only if you are a good student and show dedication). She will be there for you. 10/10 take any class with her
