She's a little weird, but her tests are easy if you study. Make sure you attend the SI sessions and get your papers edited.

Very helpful. If you go in and ask her about anything on the test you will be ready. She gives practice tests that are exaclty like the test. The homework is also just like the tests. Do those and you'll be fine!

So easy! When I hear about classes that are easy A's, I never hear about this one...but it is! She gives a lot of notes, but the tests are easy.

This class is an an easy A. She offers lots of outside time to ask questions or go over the material again, she even has classes purely for review you don't need to go to quite often. This class isn't for everyone though, if you hated geometry proofs in high school you might not like thie class.

She worked in a shoe factory with Stephen King in Maine for god's sake--I love it! Great class, and you don't really need to buy the books if you go to class every day--she wants you to succeed.

Great teacher. Entirely possible to get an A+. Tests are really straight forward. Give you the topics beforehand. Papers are a breeze as well. Gives you guidelines that tells you step by step what to write. Follow that and you will get and A on them. Purposely intimidating 1st day, helps weed people out. After that she is very, very nice!

I went into this class having no idea what it was about and Bolton did a very good job at teaching it. Just show up to class, pay attention and you'll do well. She wants her students to do well; extremely helpful during her office hours. Very easy to get a hold of too; she'll email you back really quick. Would recommend to anyone!

I totally despised this teacher the first week, and after that, a lot of kids had dropped it, and she was not only tolerable, but fun to listen to. You'll adapt to her sense of humor, she once told her class that every day could be worse, at least you didn't fall in the shower and crack your head open this morning.. ;) Easy A if you do the homework

she seems really mean and intimidating at first, but she is one of the most helpful teachers i have had here at asu. for the papers in her class i didnt get any of them and i went to her office hours and she basically wrote them for me and i went home and typed them up, she great....dont be intimidated.

If you have A.D.D., this instructor will suit you fine because it made wonders to my grade. Oh... by the way, I got an A+ on the class. THis class is A.D.D. friendly, but (note) not all A.D.D. individuals may experience similar grade results. Some effort is required, so don't be total procastinator. If i have ADD, therefore you must pass the class.

Bolton is insane. The class is easy once you get through her quirkiness. She makes the material seem confusing but if you read the book or pay attention and do the examples the material is really straight forward. The tests were exactly like the practice tests. Easy A!!!

My favorite teacher so far! Although she comes across as harsh the first couple days, she warms up very quickly and is actually really funny. Also, if you put in the work, it is impossible to get a bad grade. She tells you what type of questions to expect on the tests, and gives you outlines for the three short papers you have to write. Wonderful!

This is one of the best teachers and classes that I've taken at ASU. It's very hard to find a professor like this. Take advantage of it and take this class. She may seem intimidating at first but she is so nice and helpful. If you listen to what she says, you will get an A!

Wannabe-tough professor. Very helpful and does go out of her way to make students understand. The book is exactly the same as the lectures. She even uses it as a guideline during class. Order, words, terms, everything. However, though you could skip, her lectures are much more easier to follow than the book - by far. Very clear at explaining.

Amazing professor. She tries to scare her students, but there is nothing to worry about. She provides more than enough information to help study and prepare for exams. Some may not understand her humor until the 2nd or so lecture, but she's awesome! She's very open, clear & helpful to the class & always happy to help students. Her humor keeps students alert and interested. All you have to do is take good notes and listen to her lectures and you'll do very well. I'd take her again if she taught another class!

For me this class was really strange & hard to understand the concepts. Other friends thought it was cake. Her sense of humor is definitely not like any other prof I've ever taken from. If you go to her office hours to proofread your papers you can get 100 on them. Tests come right from hw & practice tests online. Really straightforward & fair.

I tried to take this class during the summer and it was a LOT of work. The teacher is really nice. But she assigns tons of work. There is at least 2-3 quiz's a week plus a test every week and about 50-60 pages a week to read. It can be really confusing if you try to take the class on line. I would recommend an in class class instead of online.

Bolton comes off as a mean old crone but she is hilarious and I loved it all! Very clear and makes the class bearable. Be warned: PHI 103 is not at all theoretical! It is all about truth tables and arguments. Can be rough for people not willing to commit the time to learn the material, but Bolton will help you out. Good personal stories, too.

Bolton is cool. She's really nerdy, but hilarous. The class is almost like a math class, but she will help you with the papers. She will say that she doesnt care about students, but she does. Awesome class, and its not hard & attendence is optional!

This class was incredibly easy. Bolton likes to say that she is mean and nasty but she is not. She is very helpful. When she first presented something it was a bit confusing but I always understood by the end of the lecture. She gives enough sample tests that we know exactly what the test is going to be like.

Bolton is hilarious. The material is tough at 1st if it's your 1st logic class, but she's good @ clearing everything up. There are papers and tests, but b/ are easy. Dr. Bolton is a great teacher. This class is surprisingly pretty damn hard, but Dr. Bolton will always go the extra mile to help her students succeed. I am taking her right now in summer 2010 and she is great. She is flexible if you have problems with the course, and will go out of her way to help you.

She's really funny, but she grades all written assignments pretty harshly. you have the option of taking the quizzes online or in class, take them online. I got a 68.8 in the class but she rounded it to a C thankfully. It's not THAT hard if you really try, but i honestly didnt have the time.

Awesome professor. Really knowledgeable, and knows how to present the material in a fun and original way. Workload and reading are pretty intense, but she's a ridiculously easy grader, and generally has a very laid-back approach to the class. I'd definitely recommend taking her, for this class or for any other.

Best class I took my freshman year. The material is hard, but if you do the readings and the practice quizzed and test that she so helpfully provides, you will be fine. She is always offering office hours and she will look at your essays 20 times before you submit it if you would like.

The material could be hard and isn't fun, but she makes it easy to pass if you put forth the effort. She lays everything you need out for you, follow it and ask her any questions you have and passing is definite.

GREAT professor. The class is pretty easy, but you do have to attend lectures in order to understand the material. She's alway willing to give help, but if you attend lectures, you probably won't need it. She also offers some optional work days on which she goes around the room and gives extra help to students who want it.

I really wasn't looking forward to this class, but Bolton made this class a breeze. A few papers, she definitely provides more than enough preparation for them, and as long as you have paid some attention, you will ace them guaranteed. Otherwise, there's just two 5 minute summaries you have to write and read aloud to the class during the semester.

Bolton is clueless and seems as though she could go the whole class talking to herself and wouldn't mind. You can literally use your laptop and do nothing in her class and get an A+. You definitely DO put in your work though when you are writing your papers. If you can't write or read at a proficient level, take a different class.

I took this course online and it was easy as long as you do the work. The information you learn is very boring, but it is not hard as long as you do the homework and self-check activities she provides online. Professor Bolton does everything right for this course. The material is not intuitive but all tools are provided for success. She responded same day to all my emails. Class schedule is easy to follow. You'll succeed if you work hard and don't procrastinate. In my opinion, she is the standard by which all online professors should be held.

Coming from upper division mathematics courses, this class was pathetically easy. I didn't learn much aside from a few terms. Would not recommend for a math major if you've already had MAT 300 - but could help prep for 300 otherwise. The homework and tests were extremely reasonable. I didn't like the textbook much, would have preferred more rigor.

I loved this class! Don't skip class on the date of exams (even though they're online) because she goes over a lot of the material and is super helpful! She moves really fast, so keep up. 2 mandatory papers that you can email to her as many times as you want before they're due. She's super helpful!

If you are looking to take an easy A course, this is a good option. I took it online and you have to teach the material to yourself but it is relatively easy. Also, for the papers, even though I am an online student I went to see her in her office hours and she basically wrote the paper for me. Just do the work and ask for help and you'll do good.

Great class! There is a ton of help if you don't understand a topic and she replies to emails within 12 hours. You really don't need the book because all of the same information is in the learning modules. Would definitely take another class with Dr. Bolton.

Great professor very helpful and really knows what she is doing would have her as a professor again. Grades are based on 6 exams that were online and 2 essays but they were pretty easy. She made the material very easy and there is practice pools of questions to help prepare for tests if needed and the book is helpful but not very necessary.

I needed assistance and she provided it helpfully, If you approach her with the intent of learning she is very welcoming. Dont make up excuses, do the written papers, work on blackboard and the exams should be a breeze. She can seem harsh but she is kind and helpful if you make an effort.

This class is difficult yet extremely satisfying to learn. It takes a lot of time out of class to grab the concepts but its oddly entertaining to figure out. She makes you buy the book she wrote and its basically the lectures word for word so you don't have to go to class if you have the discipline to learn it yourself outside of class.

Ok. I did not think I would enjoy this class, but honestly, I turned in 2 10 page papers that I am really proud of. Do the work and she will help you along the way. She responds to emails instantly 7 days a week. I would take her again in a heartbeat just because your success in the class can only be hindered by your own actions. She is great.

Cynthia is an interesting lady. She seems a little abrasive but it's just the way she talks. She is very helpful if you ask questions or even see her right after lecture. She works very quickly in class so write fast. Take good notes and do the practice exams a few times the day before an exams. Tough class, but do-able and rewarding.

She was super helpful when it came to writing papers (only 2). She wrote the textbook for the class so it is really helpful and goes perfectly with the lectures. If you do the online version, you can come to class before a test and she'll give you a study guide and you can ask any questions. Homework was short, tests were reasonable and easy. I took the online course of this class and it honestly was pretty easy. I often times wouldnt learn the material until the day of the exam and still managed to get A's on all of them. 6 exams, 2 papers, and 4 quizzes. The quizzes were honestly the hardest part, but doable. It sounds like a lot, but its not bad at all. Easy A if you do the work.

I was struggling, and was seriously considering withdrawing entirely. Dr Bolton gave me invaluable hints and feedback and helped me turn my grade completely around. She is very knowledgeable and understanding, and I can honestly say she saved my academic career, even if she doesn't know it.

Bolton is literally one of the best professors ever. She wants everyone to do well and will help you create 2 awesome papers. That all the class consists of- and a few mini 10-20 min assignments (which are super easy). I am so glad I took this course. The material can be intimidating, don't let it be. This woman will sit with you for hours if she has to as long as you perfect the material. If you go to office hours this will be the easiest A you will ever get. You will learn things in this class that applies to life and all of your other classes: Logic.

You have two options for this class: teach yourself from her textbook, or if you like learning in person go to class every day. She teaches the exact information that she wrote in the textbook, so if you can learn that way you can stay home! Honestly the easiest class I have ever taken. Her personality is a bit intimidating, but she is a great professor. She wrote the textbook for her class, and pretty much just teaches straight out of it. Didn't show up to lecture half the time but caught up from the TB. the papers aren't hard and you can use your notes for the quizzes and exams.

I transferred to ASU this semester and I was really happy to have Bolton as my first philosophy professor. The course is mainly two large essays, and she really takes time to help everyone do their best. I'm much more confident in my abilities to write philosophical essays after taking this course with her guidance.

Bolton is super accessible outside of class, which makes this easy class even easier. I found the textbook helpful, but it probably isn't necessary for this course. 6 Quizzes (only have to take 4), 2 papers (4 paper topics and she'll help you write the essays), and 6 exams (take the sample test and you'll be fine). Easy A for a humanities credit.

Dr. Bolton is one of those professors who will do anything in her power to help you know the material. As long as you take notes the class is very easy and interesting. Would not recommend though if you don't like math, as it focuses on that not philosophers. It's a great class.

I LOVE BOLTON. I will take any class that she teaches. Her instructions are very clear and she makes it known what is expected of you. She is available by email (she responds quickly) to proof drafts of papers and will give feedback. Wickedly smart and so funny.

The coursework is definitely challenging, especially if you've never taken logic before. HOWEVER, Dr. Bolton is absolutely amazing at helping you to succeed. Dr. Bolton is an expert in what she teaches. Shes always willing to help students if you dont understand a topic. Its very easy to pass if youre willing to get help for the things you need. Every professor should be as transparent and helpful as she is

Prof. Bolton does assign 2 papers mandatory, third for credit if it is a higher score than one of the first two completed. You have a choice between 5 paper topics to write on. The papers are fairly simple, easy max credit on my first two. The book is not required if you attend class and understand the material. If you have trouble get the book.

Overall I found Professor Bolton to be a great communicator and willing to help you out as long as you made the effort and put in the work to try. If I was struggling I would send her what I was working on and she always provided me great feedback and helped me find solutions. She allows for a make up test & paper which is amazing!

Took this class in the fall of '19. For an online class, this is the most involved professor I ever had. She was always willing to help. This class was harder than I thought it would be and should have tried harder/ study more. If it means anything, I have thought about taking this class again.

I love prof Bolton. She is literally AMAZING. Very passionate. Great at explaining and gives plenty of examples. She answers emails quickly and holds great test review sessions where she goes over some of the exact questions on your test. Papers are easy, and don't buy the TB. I didn't and I never needed it.

She prepares you for every exam by doing lots of practice problems in class, sample tests, and it is all paired with her own published textbook. The textbook she has you get is very useful and helps with additional studying. She is always open to questions in class and she does her best to make sure everyone understands the content.

Dr. Bolton is the MOST helpful teacher I have ever had at ASU. PHI103 was like another foreign language to me that went by the rules of Math. As an online student the course is extra difficult given the short time to learn and study. Dr. Bolton offers weekly study groups and will ZOOM, call, or e-mail you in live to help! She helps in real time. <3

Class structure is very clear, this was an iCourse, but she allows you to join a live class. She is very easy to access outside of class, she gives very helpful hints, and the class is extremely easy if you do the sample exams and get help if you need it.

A good professor, willing to help if you ask, and down to earth. Can be unorganized, handouts but no lecture slides. Attendance exercises, a logic exam, 2 short papers (3 pages), and 1 long paper (10 pages or so). An "L" class, so she uses some of the exercises and 1 of your short papers to help in writing your long paper. Overall, not difficult.

Can't say enough great things about Bolton. She is seriously the best. She trusts her students and is pretty laid back and is a GREAT logic prof. Everything is straightforward in her class, no surprises

She is more than willing to help students outside of class and edit drafts to ensure they get a 100. Logic is definitely not my strong suit, but Dr. Boltons teaching made it understandable and easy to succeed.

Cat's, dogs, poodles. There will be logical notation as the semester progresses, hence the "It's another language". It's like math or programming so if you like these then its an easy A. Otherwise it might be tricky to get the hang of. There are papers, but they are analysis a prewritten argument. The professor is fun and even reviews your papers.

I have never had a professor so involved. She truly wants you to learn and do well. She makes it clear that this class is not for everyone but if you enjoy philosophy you must take a class with her. She is very responsive and is constantly engaging with the course. Print the study guides and fill them out! They will help you through the whole class

Dr. Bolton gives students every chance to succeed by making herself available outside of class and giving copious feedback in assignments. 1 logic exam, 2 10pg papers, and a few small hw assignments. The reading and papers are hard, but Bolton WILL do everything in her power to get your work to A+ standard. She is a hilarious lecturer.

She gives so many chances to do well in the class. She is helpful, and very flexible with deadlines if you communicate with her.

suuuper sweet and kind. You can ask her anything (doesn't care about dumb questions) and she's happy to help. She can be funny during lectures too. Pretty easy class if you just do what you're expected to do. (study, attend class). overall chill professor, chill class. nice to be around :)

I absolutely loved this class with Professor Bolton. I took the class online and her instructions and videos were outstanding. She is genuine, fair and wants students to do well. If you keep up with the work (just like math) you will do well with little stress. I would take any class she teaches.

Professor Bolton was great, her lectures were thorough, she emailed you back quickly. The only problem I have was the class itself, maybe I just didn't understand the topic but wow was her class intense. It almost made me cry, I still don't understand it, and her 2 papers she has you do were some of the hardest.

Easy and straightforward class. No homework. Definitely take if you like math. Need to do 2/4 papers offered. Examples are given and you can email her to check. 6 exams and no final, all on canvas and multiple choice. You can redo an exam at the end. Recommend going to lectures, lets you out early often. A couple extra credit quizzes are given.

One of my favorite classes. The material was tough at first, but watching lectures and practice problems helped. She is highly available and encourages students to reach out if need help. Will proof papers for you, there are two but fairly short and almost write themselves with a good understanding of the material. Highly recommend this course.

Professor Bolton is amazing! I definitely recommend taking this class! She does everything possible to make sure students are prepared for the tests/quizzes/papers. Overall, the class is very easy, and if you need help, then she has plenty of office hours and she has homework problems on canvas if you need extra practice. Take this class!

when class first began, I thought It would be a miserable semester taking philosophy. Theres many complex topics, but Professor Bolton was great with explaining and helping students excel. If you fail this class, its 100% your fault! She's tough, but in a funny humorous way. There's 2 mandatory papers, but shell help you score 100% on them!

One of the professors this year that I throughly enjoyed learning from. Content at first seems confusing, however as time goes you'll be able to navigate through it seamlessly. She is good at giving back feedback. She wants all her students to succeed, and you can see it in her remarks when she grades.

Committed to the act of teaching. Gives feedback, most of the times within minutes, which is very helpful and encouraging. Never had a professor this good.

Professor Bolton gave good clear feedback. She allowed us to send her multiple drafts of our final paper before submitting. She wanted all of us to do good in her course. I really appreciated her and would recommend to anyone taking this class.

This is a tough 100 level, but prof helps you out at every step. Lectures are SO IMPORTANT and easy if you follow along. 6 exams (more like big quizzes) but her practice exams are almost the same. Has great lecture videos on Canvas if you fall behind. 2 pretty easy papers with samples to compare. Emails get responses pretty much immediately.

If you are new to PHI, it will seem like a lot at first, I almost dropped the course but I decided to stick with it and give SOME effort, don't slack/fall behind. She is actually caring towards you/your grade, Attend lecture. She gives plenty of resources for test/quizzes and papers are basic and easy. She WILL help you. If you fail, its on you.

I took this class session B so it was very quick. There are 2 papers, and those were the most difficult assignments in the class. 6 exams open note. Watch lecture and take notes on the sheets she gives u. Exams on lockdown but no camera. Only bad thing in session B was last 3 exams are due on same day.

Dr Bolton seems to care about the material and teaching in general. She was always quick to respond to a request or an email. Would absolutely take again.

Professor Bolton has been amazing. I came back to school after many years and felt overwhelmed by another class. But her videos and email correspondence has helped me get through both classes with more ease. She is an incredible professor and seems like an incredible person. I am very grateful to have had her class to start me back at school.

Super funny and a pretty easy class overall, but just do all of the tests and quizzes, they are a majority of the grade and all at home, just stay on top of it and go to lecture its really easy.

Dr. Bolton is amazing. Logic can be tricky, but she explains it in a way that makes sense. There are six exams, five quizzes (one dropped), and four papers (two dropped). If you email her your papers before the deadline she'll review them and guarantee a 100 for the assignment. Easy A and learned a lot about foundational logic!

Professor Bolton is an awesome professor, she really cares about her students and is super helpful. The class itself wasn't too hard but defiantly got complicated. She gives you plenty of opportunities to get a good grade. If you're looking for an easy HU credit, I'd recommend a different class, but if you are desperate professor Bolton is great.

At first, this class seemed hard! I considered quitting after a week. However, the professor's lectures and dedication to the class convinced me to give it a try! Thank goodness I didn't withdraw. Like a puzzle, this class became addictive as I invested more. This is not an easy A class, but if you're taking it, definitely take Professor Bolton.

Lectures are dull, handwriting is bad, but grading is lenient with extra credit options. Exams require preparation, locked browsers, open notes. Practice tests essential. This class is lecture heavy, so don't expect to take the exams without them. do practice exams a few times before taking the exams. Re-dos available for failed papers/exams.

Professor Bolton posts all necessary course material on Canvas, I did not use the textbook, and I stopped showing up to class after a couple of weeks because I was able to learn the content online. There are six exams, six quizzes (2 dropped), and four papers (2 dropped).

Bolton is a wonderful instructor who is very knowledgeable about and experienced in her field of study. While attendance is not mandatory, it is difficult to skip this class given Dr. Bolton's hilarity, her excellent teaching style, and the extra credit offered during class. Bolton is very accessible outside of class and desires success for all.

Amazing professor. Attendance is optional and there's videos for every topic on Canvas but you should go if you don't sufficiently understand the material. Uses her own textbook which is pretty good and has practice problems and answers. Practice exams and quizzes on Canvas for every topic as well. She's also pretty funny. 10/10.

Professor is amazing, but the class itself is HARD. It's more like a math class with words rather than philosophy. I would not recommend taking this class in hopes of an easy "A" as I don't see how that is possible. The professor though was amazing and willing to work with me, I just needed to drop it for my GPA and mental health.

She had made the material smooth by giving many examples. If you are missing classes due to attendance not being required it will not go well. The papers are a easy grade. 1st/2nd are hardest exam. If you do your due-diligence and don't slack off then I see no excuse being viable for you to not pass. Very pattern oriented/application of material.

Professor Bolton's class is a challenging but rewarding one. Attend all lectures and utilize the textbook, practice exams, and resources like unstuck ai to succeed. The grading may be tough, but with diligence, you can nail this course.

She explains things in a way that is easy to understand. I never used the textbook, just her lectures and study guides. Exams and quizzes are open note. She has a really good sense of humor and sprinkles it throughout her lectures and announcements. There are A LOT of announcements but it's valuable info usually so read them carefully.

Elite professor

She is super sweet and helpful. Nothing against her, I just did not understand some of the work. Even if I got 100%s on half of the stuff, the bad grades on one topic made me get a C. But if oyu go to class and take notes you should be fine.

Professor Bolton is hands down the best prof I've had to far. She's kind of scattered but I didn't feel like that made it hard to understand her material. This class was super easy with very minimal homework. She's super funny and even though she pretends to be mean she's the sweetest ever. She also offers a BUNCH of resources and test/quiz prep.

Take this class in person if you can. Online session was okay, but very disorganized. Content was challenging yet satisfying. Prof is very knowledgeable - she literally wrote the textbook. DON'T SKIP HOMEWORK, SELF-CHECKS, & PRACTICE EXAMS. They're ungraded but I would not have passed without them. 17 assignments total & 4 are omitted so STUDY.

THE MATERIAL IS DIFFICULT. But the professor is great. If you are going to take this class this is the best professor for it. She is great at teaching, she is funny and she takes teaching very seriously. She also makes the grading extremely clear, and she offers many ways to help you succeed.

The online lectures are clear and concise, but the textbook is confusing. Tedious with heavy workload - expect lots of studying. You'll succeed by completing everything, but only enjoy it if you like logic and formal reasoning. Not an easy L credit! Great for learning argument analysis, but skip it if you want light coursework or an easy A.

This class was very straight forward and easy to understand. Prof Bolton was very clear with her teaching style, and i definitely recommend taking her class.

Bolton is a great professor and great person to be in class with. She is very clear with what is expected especially in a class that isn't easy for most. She does a lot of in class prep for exams and everything is nicely organized and helpful on canvas. She is also open to questions and helping others. Quizzes, exams, and 5 papers (only 2 count).

Professor Bolton was one of my best profs at ASU so far. Her material was clear and well-presented, and unlike so many other profs, she actually gives feedback on assignments and genuinely wants you to pass. It's a fair amount of work but it made me want to take more philosophy classes.

This class scared me at first. I read the entire textbook beforehand as well as supplementary material and I was so worried about failing or pulling a lower grade. Professor Bolton, though, has the made the material remarkably easy to understand and gives plenty of opportunity to engage with her so that you can gain a better understanding of it.

If you're good at math, this class is super easy. If not, Dr. Bolton provides so many resources to help. She goes out of her way to make sure her students succeed. For the paper, start it early and ask for feedback via email. She responds very quickly and she'll tell you exactly what to do to get 100%. I hope I can take another class with her!

This class will sound challenging on the first day, but it's not bad at all. I'm not good at math, and you don't have to be to do well. It'll all sound a little made up, but if u just kinda go with it and don't overthink it, the content is super easy. Prof. Bolton is also super funny and I loved having her this semester.

Dr. Bolton's lectures are very fast paced and each day covers a lot of content, but she explains things very clearly and concisely. She is always available to help out when you are having difficulties. Her online video lectures are also very helpful. However, you need to be attentive throughout the entire class and take good notes to succeed.

Professor Bolton is great & kind! The class is logic heavy which is unexpected for this course but she does a good job explaining all the material, as well as giving good study guides for the exams. If you do the assignments you will get a good grade, attendance isn't mandatory but you will miss out on some important instructions.
