She explains things pretty clearly. If you don't agree with her views though, she'll let you know it real quick. She is however, very helpful and fair. You'll learn a lot.
Great Prof! Highly engaging.
Dr. Bowers knows her content, but does not know how to teach it well. She is a very closed-minded person and does not let students have much input/opinion into the class. I would not recommend taking her. Avoid if you can!
If you make anti-Bush remarks you will get an A! Don't show your pro-Bush colors in her classroom though, it makes her head spin! Most teachers keep their political opinions to themselves but this one lets her hatred for our country's president show. Although she knows what she's talking about, she expects more than she gives. If you want to work your butt off for a B then take her class!
The worst professor I've ever had at KSU. She gives tedious quizzes on the reading; one would have to read the story over ten times before acing a silly lil "did you do the reading?" quiz. Papers, Midterm, and Final were all graded very harshly, and, better yet, she gives no explanation as to why you were graded that way. Avoid this one at all cost
very strict, unapproachable

Very surprised by previous neg. comments. I found Dr. Bowers to be engaging, passionate about her subject and extremely accomodating. More than 1/2 the class were previous students of hers who purposely sought out additional classes w/her. I would not hesitate to take another of her classes. GREAT experience!!
Dr. Bowers is certainly a strict teacher. Her quizzes do cover obscure parts of the text. She forgets we do not have our doctorates yet. Ppl say she is too difficult but she just wants you to live up to your capabilities. She needs to give reasons behind her grades though. She is very interesting but you have to work for your A.
I had her for Shakespeare I on a London study abroad trip and she was fabulous! She was concerned about you learning, not memorizzing the material. She has high expectations, but if you do the work and put in the effort there is no reason as to why you could not do well.Know your stuff, study for quizzes, and particpate in class! A in the class!
VERRRY DIFFICULT. So far to the left in her views that she almost ends up back on the right side. She is likes to show that she is the smartest one in the class to the point of near arrogance. I won't take her again, but she is passable if there is no other choice.
Had Dr. Bowers over the summer. She was an excellent teacher. Her class was extremely difficult but I somehow managed to get an "A" in the class. I haven't had an English class since 1998, so if I can do it, anyone can!!! Will definitely look for her classes in the future!!
Really like this professor. She is easy to understand, and her assignments are not that difficult. She likes to lecture on boring topics, but then again the subject matter of the class is boring. Overall I think that she is a good teacher, I would take her again.
She's actually an easy teacher contrary to other posters. You turn in a paper and if it's a poor paper OR if she thinks you can write better (even if it's a great paper) you have to do it again; she's pushing you to be better. Her tests are very easy so don't worry that her lectures are rambly
Dr. Bowers is an excellent professor, and contrary to other reviews, she is very approachable. She is willing to work with you on almost anything you're struggling with, and instead of a flat grade on papers, gives you a chance to improve. I'm taking her again this fall because I had such a positive experience.
Very entertaining. Very knowledgeable. Made Shakespeare fun. Does not grade papers harshly, but a stickler for correct MLA! Very approachable. Would take any class she offered.
one of the worst professors i have encountered. missed over four classes and she told me to withdraw, eventhough we had not tested on any of her boring lectures. I won't ever take her again.
This woman really knows her stuff. She is very precise when it comes to MLA. She's witty and funny. Grades come from many different sources. She will give "do-overs" instead of grades on papers to give you the chance to improve the ending grade. She's easy to approach and willing to help. Grades are very fair. I love this professor.
Fantastic teacher. Made Shakespeare interesting. You go to the Shakespeare Tavern, which is fun. Easy tests, fair grades on essays. Somewhat overbearingly liberal, but otherwise great.
Professor Bowers is great! She allows do-overs on papers and her tests are really easy. I enjoyed her so much that I'm taking her for a different class next semester.
Dr. Bowers is without question the worst professor I've ever had! She has absolutely no tolerance for anything not done to her exact specifications, no tolerance for any views or opinions that don'tn exactly match her own, and she treats her students like second-graders! She knows her stuff, there's no doubt about that; but she CANNOT teach!
She and the class seemed very intimidating at first, but I grew to love her. You have to show you want an A in the class to get one. Don?t miss class, pay attention, try to participate, and try to keep up with reading. The extra credit is time consuming, but if you do it, you are pretty much guaranteed an A. She lets you rewrite the paper.
Bowers is difficult. She is a tough grader, but she makes the class fun. Caution to conservative students: she'll rip you to shreads-she claims liberals should rule the world! She knows her stuff though and is pretty laid back.
Love Dr Bowers! She is tough but I've learned a lot. Taking her in the future and can't wait!
Dr. Bowers knows her stuff, she is passionate about her world views. I do not agree that she "rips" students to shreds. She enjoys a great discussion especially if it is politically charged. The assignments were not too difficult, but she does make you think. The "missing scene" assignment was very fun. Take her! Her knowledge is worth your money.
Dr. Bowers is a wonderful teacher. She is very intelligent and she knows her stuff. Don't miss her class, pay attention and if you are struggling, like I was; talk to her. I didn't do very well on my quizzes but I came to class, participated and I did very well in the end! Take her she is GREAT!
Took Dr.Bowers for shakespeare and she is amazing!! She is bold and assertive and a great teacher! She will let you re-do your papers for a higher grade, gives an extra credit opportunity, and will work with you. Read the material because she does give quizzes. Love her!
Knows her subject and always keeps class interesting with funny and energetic lectures. Kind of scattered, though. Will run late, forget who you are, never check emails. Quiz on most class dates (not hard if you read the material, impossible if you don't.)
Had her for 3 classes; adore her! Funny, interesting, intelligent, forgiving, approachable. People who say she's arrogant don't realize that she's usually joking and you shouldn't take her seriously. Tough grader; you can't just skate by in her classes. She expects you to be a college student, so act like one, do your work, participate!
I had her for Senior Seminar, Shakespeare, and Topics in Drama. I love her so much! She's hilarious. Those condemning her on her politics probably don't realize she's joking most of the time. She is passionate about her topic, expects participation, and grades strictly but fairly. Take her, take her, take her!!!!!
She is very knowledgeable. She will change the syllabus some, but it's generally to accommodate the class's speed, so you can't really fault her for it. Very willing to let you rewrite, at least in this semester. Very helpful and open to meet. Quizzes were not easy, but the play portion of the class is great: going to one and performing your own.
Absolutely LOVE her! Began my Major instruction with her and finished my undergrad career with her Senior Seminar. Best paper policy, if it's not what you like, rewrite it for a new grade. Definitely pays to attend her classes, some of which have attendance policies. Take her for as many classes as you can, loves old (and new) faces. Fair grader.
Dr. Bowers is very entertaining and knowledgeable. However, she is very opinionated and I would not advise you to go against her views. The class is manageable though busy for a summer semester. Would recommend her to any motivated student.
Do not miss class, she is serious about attendance! It can make or break your grade. Her readings are very "old" English and very difficult, and there is a lot of reading! A quiz at beginning of every class, but changes up her tests. One was multiple choice/closed book. One was essay questions/open book. She is fun, but tough. Willing to work with
Bowers is an awesome professor. Students who whine about her are usually the ones who skip class or don't pay attention. She is NOT easy so I reccomend this class only if you are serious about English. If you're just trying to coast by don't bother, you won't do well in this class.
Took her for Shakespeare. Excellent teacher and Excellent class. I thought I had a knowledge of all there was to know about Shakespeare, I was mistaken. She was extremely knowledgeable. Didn't read the same old stuff from high school either. She also showed us how to tie it in to real life. Great class surprisingly!
Not an easy professor. Very into Old English everything. So boring.
Professor Bowers is a good teacher. She doesnt have that many grades and there are only 4 essay assignments. She gives good feedback on essays and a few in class assignments. It is not a hard class but there is a good amount of effort included in it.
Professor Bowers was a great teacher, she grades really easily and the final paper is on a topic of your choice. She's extremely lenient with assignments, allows you to resubmit papers, and cuts class shortcancels pretty often. She's really funny too so the class isn't too boring. An A in her class is not hard to get!
Gotta love Cynthia Bowers. Only 4 papers the entire semester. The final was on a topic of your choice. Pretty easy grader but strict on documentation for MLA and APA. Get a Writers handbook for documenting and you should be fine. Oh and the "final" was mainly on documentation for MLA and APA as well.
She assigned (a lot of) homework, then didn't grade us on it and she was indifferent to the complaints of the class, saying "oh well". Her tests are comprised of either extremely easy questions, or based on her own opinion. Very inconsistent. Papers were graded with little effort and no critiques.
She is extremely difficult, and really rude in class. She skips class at times and does not give proper setup to papers and won't bother posting grades to D2L. Do not go against her views, as she feels as if she holds the sole interpretation to a text.
I took her for British Lit & I really would not recommend. I mean, the content was interesting & she's pretty funny, but, that's about all of her good qualities. Whenever we would have a test scheduled, there would never be any sort of review. At all. Which left a lot of students feeling unprepared & nervous. Is also very rude & condescending.
Got an A and I still wouldn't recommend her. She's horribly rude and condescending. Allows you to rewrite any papers that you fail, but basically expect to fail them all; half of our class did for every paper. She's funny, but very harsh on grading. You have to tailor your papers to her specific tastes and opinions, which teaches you nothing.
Don't do it. Just walk away, click on someone else. I did twice the coursework for her class because I "failed" every paper and had to rewrite. You need to pay attention and guess her personal views or you'll fail. She holds the ONLY interpretation of the text, which goes against the core of being an English major. Extremely condescending. Just no.
Won't ever take again. Not if I had to graduate a semester late would I take her again. Rude and unhelpful, despite the fact that she made everyone write their papers again in my class and forced some of us to see her in her office (at her convenience) just to tell us that we're wrong. Never. Again. Grades everything late, tests are opinion based.
Dr. Bowers doesn't seem to care much about her students. She doesn't care what students have to say.
Dr. Bowers doesn't seem to care much about her students. She doesn't care what students have to say. She was just a bit lazy and not very engaging.
She isn't very engaging. Doesn't seem to care about her students. Class was a waste of time since I really didn't get much out of it.
She is very scatterbrained and disorganized. She would make up extra work that she didn't put on rubrics. She is rude to her students and makes them feel belittled. Not to mention how she will not bend on any topic. It doesn't matter if you have good evidence for your claim, she won't budge. It's her way or the highway.
Professor Bowers is not a BAD professor. She is challenging, and she does have flaws. She is not very clear on what she is looking for from a lot of assignments, but she is genuinely very kind. Her feedback and grading are fairly harsh.
Rude to students if they say things she disagrees with. Assigns a heavy work load and adds on throughout the semester as she sees fit, even if it's not on syllabus. Grades based on opinion. I did all of the work and a lot of people didn't. They still made the same grade as me. I made As on everything, she didnt say she would drop anything. Uncool.
take another professor avoid her class she is confusing, she makes you do all this reading and homework but you come to class and spend the WHOLE CLASS period doing the same work there are 4 papers all of which she does not give clear instructions on. she never responds to emails Just pick someone else if you can help it
It's been a semester since I've taken her and every time I see her in the hallway, I cringe. Seriously. DON'T. DO. IT. Getting an A in her class was the hardest thing I've ever done. Had a class this semester where a student mentioned they'd taken her and my prof at the time said "I'm so sorry". If your coworkers think you're bad, you're bad!
I slacked off in the beginning. If you do the discussion posts and quizzes, you will for sure get a solid C. The tests and papers will kill you because she is a very tough grader and doesn't give enough details to write a good paper BUT if you go to her office, she is more than willing to help. I do love her; she's sweet and understanding.
All I can really think of to say is do not take her. She always shows up late and sometimes she just wouldn't show up at all and leave us all waiting outside. Her papers are impossible. She's rude. I do not recommend taking her. She made me hate British Literature.
Professor Bowers is fantastic. Her discussions are hilarious, and she really cares about teaching you the material because she obviously is passionate about it. I really feel like I learned from her! Do your homework, and MAKE SURE TO SHOW UP. Read your course materials and communicate with her, and you'll be fine.
I absolutely hated her class, and that is something that I never thought I would say about an English professor, because English has always been my favorite class. She will change her due dates every other week, confuse herself and the class, and make you feel like you are the most undervalued person in the world. I would never recommend her.
She was funny and nice, but her class was not the best. I got a B, but I was worried about my grades the whole semester. I always had trouble reaching her through email and she would assign things randomly that were not on the syllabus. It was hard to keep up. Her lectures are also boring. It's mostly her talking. I wouldn't take her again.
This was an hybrid class and it was awful! She was unorganized & could be rude. Things were unclear & we were OFTEN left confused or unsure. I always had a problem when it came to turning things in because the dropboxes were never open. She would open them but not give us extensions. I have never had this much stress from a class! Don't take.
I had her for a hybrid class and was disturbed by how unorganized she was. She would often forget about our assignments until they were almost due, she tried to create a Wiki for a class discussion that nobody ever got access to, and the final was supposed to be open online for a week, and she didn't open it until the last day we had to take it.
I had Dr. Bowers for British Lit and I'll never take her again. She seemed like she had no idea what she was doing and actually asked our class when the final was. She even thought we turned in our final paper when we hadn't. So incredibly unorganized that it stressed me out more than it should have.
She stressed me out so much as a professor. She was all over the place with assignments. She has a schedule set up, but by the first week it was already wrong and we were behind. Week before a week-long break, she assigned 3 papers, one of them a group paper, to be due the class after break, because she forgot about them. Great for panic attacks.
Dr. Bowers was alright, fairly knowledgeable and helpful with issues, although issues (online errors, miscommunication, etc.) did pop up a lot. For her online class you'll listen to lectures, read literary works, write discussions, tests, papers, and more, so work hard. Grading isn't too rough except for some quizzes/tests that seemed unfair.
I took the online Lit class and overall the material was straightforward. Lots of reading. My class had issues with contacting her, but other than that it was a good class. She's a nice lady.
Dr. Bowers can be a little all over the place at times, but it was almost always to our benefit. We had to miss a class or two and she pushed assignments back to allow us time to do them. If you read the material and show up to class youll receive a good grade. Shakespeare can be tough, but she would always explain anything we had trouble with.
She's nothing special. If you love Shakespeare you will like the class, but that's a given. Grades her quizzes strictly. At the end of the day, she is not that great. I would say she is overrated. If you're a senior, avoid.
I took Professor Bowers this past summer for online ENGL 2121 and she really stressed me out. She is very disorganized and struggles to keep up with grading. Her tests are extremely difficult and require great amounts of reading and comprehension of the material. The only thing that kept me sane in her class was the semi- interesting material.
Im sorry but this class is horrible. PLEASE DONT take her Topics of Drama course. She gives a quiz every class meeting and doesnt even explain the text or even help before the quiz is given. I look around the classroom and everyone is leaving questions blank. Her method of teaching SUCKS. I tried to drop but was too late. BEWARE
She is incredibly disorganized. Her exams include questions that were never discussed in lectures or the textbook. Lectures are boring drawls. Even if you read, listen, and study with perfect comprehension you're still going to get test questions wrong. Will make you hate British Literature if you don't already.
Shes the single most disorganized professor that Ive had the misfortune of taking. Figuring out due dates has been a nightmare since all of the due dates in D2L are still set for 2019
No communication and dates were inconsistent from the syllabus to d2l to email. Do not take her, she does not work with students and has not updated her online material since 2017.
Her class is a mess. Due dates are frequently incorrect and her attitude and work ethic are unprofessional. This class is not difficult, the professor is difficult
Unfortunately, I am currently in two classes with this professor. The scheduling is all over the place, she provides NO feedback, her quiz questions are not thought out, and overall, this is probably the worse experience I've had in college so far. Our last test was an essay that we were given 2 hours to write, no rubric, and no feedback.
Very difficult with very little context, her tests were opinion based answers but you wouldnt make a good grade if she didnt like your opinion. If you take her get ready to memorize a lot of stuff just for the quizzes and not actually learn anything. She also doesnt give much feedback on work.
Professor Bowers is kind and genuinely wants her students to do well. She requires you to read several books and watch films, and honestly if you do that you should do fine on the tests and quizzes. I enjoyed her hybrid class. If you participate and engage in conversation with her you will be fine. She is understanding.
Lets say I would never had taken her class if I knew what kind of teacher she was. I did an online class of hers and she could have cared less. Never post reminders or announcements. The due dates were all messed up. She had not updated her page since 2017. Worst teacher I had ever had. She was also pretty rude. Never take a class for her.
it is impossible to know what this professor wants. guidelines always unclear and she does not provide clear feedback. the amount of reading and homework assigned is crazy considering students are almost definitely taking other classes. the amount of stress this class caused me is upsetting. would not recommend!
She is very messy, and her due dates are all over the place. Her lectures are hard to comprehend and very boring. She grades based on opinion, on my essay she made personal remarks and very rude ones based on what she thinks and not the quality of the essay itself. Don't take her unless you have no other choice, she will make your life miserable
We had a quiz nearly every single class meeting, all written answers, questions all over the place. Before tests, she offers no review, nothing. You're pretty much on your own. She grades very harshly, specifically on small grammar mistakes, and she doesn't even thoroughly read the essays you submit, and grades on opinion. DO NOT TAKE HER.
I took Professor Bowers' online Brit Lit class and what a nightmare of a professor! Honestly, I'm not sure what the whole point of doing anything was because it's like she flips a coin when grading. Her grading criteria, if you can even call it that, are absurd and unclear! Two identical papers will receive different grades. Terrible!
Maybe she's better in person but I definitely don't recommend her for an online class. SO disorganized and completely incompetent with D2L. I was constantly emailing her about mistakes she'd made which was incredibly stressful. She really loved my papers so I'll give her that. If you're a good writer and do the work you'll get an A.
She, and this class, were absolute nightmares. No feedback on assignments, D2L was never up to date, graded papers using her own personal judgement NOT the rubric, very rude when talking to us individually, and NEVER answered her email. Don't take any classes with her. There are several clear reasons she has 16% out of 100% on her recommendation.
I LOVED Dr. Bowers, but she's not for everybody. Expect to read (for extreme detail) every night, and to take quizzes in every class. She encourages alot of group discussion, and has high expectations for her students. This being said, I grew so much as a reader, and writer, in this class, and would absolutely take it again!
She's nice but she assigns a lot of homework/reading in the textbook (which is required) and her essays take some time. She's not really a tough grader but she doesn't really give feedback that's helpful.
Dr. Bowers was inconsistent in keeping to the schedule, often skipping quizzes without notice. There was one opportunity for extra credit that took hours of work throughout the semester, but it was worth it. Quizzes were very difficult and required memorization. There was one group project as a final project. Possible to get an A with hard work.
Absolutely unclear grading criteria. Lots of fun reading and interesting lectures, but if you want explanations beyond prerecorded lectures don't expect a response. Textbook is on a third party site so won't be convered by financial aid. Unclear and outdated assignment schedules. Half of my grades are not in the grade book. Nightmare professor.
It is Christmas Eve and my grades aren't in. Lectures are genuinely terrible in quality and actual content. Doesn't help you at all and is just not a good teacher. Kind person for sure, genuinely interested in British Lit, absolutely, but as a teacher? No shot. Do NOT take her.
Get ready to READ A LOT. The only reason i didnt get an A in her class was because she claimed that I didnt speak up enough in class. Her grading was very weird, it almost seemed like she graded based off her own personal feelings rather than rubric. She barely taught us anything and expected us to know everything already.
Prof. Bowers is a nice person, but this is negated by the fact that she cannot run an online class. She fails to give any notice on major papers. Few words were given week 1 about the two papers, beyond that she does not talk about them. The latter went completely without notice, and it was 6-8 pages. Inexcusable for a deadline during finals. : (
Ms. Bowers made many mistakes which I had to send emails to get resolved. These mistakes include true or false questions that did not work in that format which I selected the "wrong" answer, incorrect dates for quizzes, grading things very late, and not letting us know the discussion questions were graded off completion rather then quality.
I just started their course and can already see how terrible they are. It's always a red flag when an English professor treats their subject as if its STEM I'm also and arts an Literature student and trust me I know for a fact these subjects aren't nearly as important. I wish I could drop this course
Terrible, just awful. no clear rubric, never replies, no feedback, no guidance, expects you to know everything, awful syllabus, horrible d2l organization, good luck trying to get anything done. expects too much for entry level course.
no clear rubric, does not care about you, does not care about teaching, teaches absolutely nothing, grades according to her mood, isn't qualified to teach, definitely needs to be removed from teaching.
I would like to know who gave her a teaching license, teachers like her is the reason this country's education system is in shambles. even the janitor could teach better than her
just wants to sell her subpar book tbh, you literally need to buy her b-grade book on top of dayone access to pass with a descent grade, 90 dollars just for two assignments should be criminal
I honestly am lost for words, the d2l is literally blank and you cant find anything. why are you even teaching?
why the faculty hasn't fired her is beyond me. For the sake of the students just resign already
just don't take her, for your sanity, she's a fossil who believes she knows how to take an online class or any class for that matter
petition to get her removed as a teacher from ksu, she's a joke, I'm not even sure she knows how to use a computer. Educators like her are the reason America has a failing education system
Prepare to be confused because none of her quizzes are labeled, you won't even know what you need to study for until you open the quiz, and good luck because they're timed, enjoy answering 15 questions, some of which may be open ended and she expects you to give proper answers, within 20 minutes!
Worst teacher by far at Kennesaw. Nothing is updated, course content is non-existent, due dates are from previous semesters. 5 question quizzes, get one question wrong, tanks your grade. Syllabus is not even published to tell you what to write your papers on, which have no explanations at all. If you want to email her, she won't email you back.
Very confusing teacher. Had no idea how to work D2L the first WEEK into the semester, and It's only gone downhill. You will have no idea what to study because there is no sense of direction in this course. You will also not get your grades when you should. It's the last week of the semester and she still doesn't have our grades out. Ridiculous!
Hated this class!! She is completely disorganized, doesn't answer any emails and doesn't grade until the last minute. I've never been in a class with a teacher who seems so utterly confused in what she is doing. I wish I did my self a favor and took American lit, if u want to take this class be prepared to hate yourself during the entire semester.
