Don't ever call this woman "Dr. Brown." She won't say a word back to you until you say her full name. Her grading is absolutely ridiculous-she will take off HUNDREDTHS of a point on homework. And if the margins on your typed papers are not EXACTLY 1" all the way around, you will lose points!

This is by far the worst teacher that I have ever had, including high school. She is very rude and unhelpful. She makes you feel very uncomfortable during speeches and her grading system is ridiculous. She seems like she hates her job. Hint: Avoid this teacher at all costs.

I don't want to be like this, but the professor does demonstrate bias on basis of race and gender. She has the perfect attitude for someone who is an activist or an attorney, however, she needs to improve her attitude and the students will follow suit.

Bad teacher her grading scale will pull your grade point average down. In our class the 12 students that finished that class, grades ranged from B’s to F’s not a single person in our class got any A. Take Ritzenheim! I took this class, and was appauled by her attitude toward her students. She began by saying she doesnt give out A's. Part of a professor's job is to ease your nerves on the subject. In my opinion, she'd be better off as a prison warden.

Very unhelpful. When asked about ANYTHING she answers with "Read your first day hand out" because she is too lazy to acutally answer. I asked her to make sure I was doing an outline right during her office hours, and she told me, "Now? I'm going downstairs, I can't help you now." What could be downstairs thats more important than helping a student?

Dr. Brown El is, probably, one of the worst teachers I have ever had, next to 2nd grade. I am an A student but had to drop this class because I was getting a C. This professor is horrible i am a business major and i took this class hoping to enhance my oral presentation skills and this class did nothing for me. The professor treats every student with disresepect and has no time to help anyone. Her directions are very unclear and she grades props that are inanimate objects and fails them along with you.

She grades a 1000 level course as if it is 3rd or 4th year class. On the first day she hands you a 16 page 'First day handout' that will be your bible for the next 16 weeks. The only people that take her class are the ones that don't know any better. But Im assuming since you came here and are reading these reviews you do know a little something. Take this at South, no one will care where you took speech, and if you think they will remember you're at a CC where NO one will even care you were ever there.

She records your speeches and makes you re watch them and write a paper about how you could improve. She was rude most of the time. However she does not make you do a big speech at the end of the semester like all the other prof. ohhh and she makes you call her doctor.

Absolutely terrible teacher. Does not teach you any of the things that you need to succeed in her class, yet expects you to know everything she does. She is incredibly rude to all students. I personally had an experience with her every week that was so rude that it would silence the entire class. Don't ask questions because she will laugh at you.

Is disrespectful to you. marks you down if margins are LITERALLY more than 1 inch, name is on the wrong side, you do not criticize yourself before exactly at 10 a.m, if you ask her a question and you said "Didn't" instead of "did not", if you call her Mrs/Prof instead of Doctor Brown El and if your speech is LITERALLY more than the requirements.

She always refers any questions asked to the "first day handout". What is a professor with a doctorate teaching at a community college? I'm willing to bet no University is willing to hire a professor with that bad of an attitude. Most of these reviews are spot on about this professor. Save yourself the grief. She takes all the fun out of a speech.

This woman will do nothing but drag down your gpa, and attempt to make her low life self feel better about her position at the bottom teaching at a cc. Do not take this woman, speech is a blow off class at MCC with every other professor.

This teacher is terrible. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. There is a reason she is teaching at mcc and not at the university level. if you have a passion for speaking she will kill that passion. She is a terrible teacher, and does not know how to connect with her students. I honestly dont know how she has a job. Avoid her at all costs.

What I've learned this semester is everything I should not do on an assignment opposed to what I need to do. Avoid taking this disrespectful professor at all costs. You'll be made fun of and laughed at for asking questions and told to refer to your first day handout. For an intro speech class I was treated like a 4th year communication major.

Professor Brown is the WORST. I REPEAT WORST PROFESSOR EVER! She is so rude and will not answer your questions. She is looking for any little thing to mark you down on assignments. I have no idea how Macomb is still letting her teach. There needs to be a WAY better teacher for this course!!!!!!

Down right incredibly RUDE professor I have experienced in all the classes I have taken. Don't even attempt 2 kiss up cuz you will still be ridiculed, laughed at, ignored, spoken to in a disgustedly rude manner that no decent human (especially a TEACHER) should talk like. She made me stay after class 1 time cuz she didnt want 2 talk w another kid.

She has way too high of expectations , for a 1000 level class. She is very particular about everything and the way she wants it. You have to spend more time on homework than a beginning college level class should have. I would not recommend her

DOCTOR Brown is the worst teacher I've had at MCC. I would take ANY other teacher for your SPCH-1060 class. Unfortunately, this class is required for most degrees. Take another teacher. She was rude, downgrading, and mean. She made men wear suits for speeches, she made women wear long dresses like the 1400's. Does she realize we are adults?

Dont even think about taking this teacher. She is just rude and will honestly try to mark you down for anything. She talks over you alot and turns the situation around to where she is always right, regardless of what you say. I was excited going into this class but she honestly ruined it. I have no idea why the dean doesn't do anything. Good luck!

Professor Brown El is the WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!!! She is so rude and if you ask a question she makes fun of you. She loves finding ways to mark you down on things. She even smiles when she finds out you did something wrongs and she gets to mark you down on it. She doesn't respect her students at all. She needs to be fired.

She encourages you to ask questions then proceeds to look at you like you are stupid when you do ask. She is very rude and never seems to "understand" when you are trying to explain something. Regardless of the other reviews I went in with an open mind. I would avoid her AT ALL COSTS. She makes students feel stupid for speaking up in class but gets frustrated when no one participates. She is very rude and disrespectful. Does not update grades or pass back assignments in a timely manner & doesnt create a comfortable environment.

She makes an introduction to speech class way harder than it should ever be. You do online homework on the chapter, TAKE A QUIZ, and THEN review the chapter in class after you've already taken the quiz. If you want to pass you have to teach yourself. I was too trusting that these reviews were wrong. Trust these reviews, take this with someone else!

She is unclear, uninformative, extremely rude, and condescending. Does not return any work in time to review what you've done wrong for the next assignment. After every class I stayed to talk about assignments, etc. and she was of no help. Does not even look at you when you speak to her. Needs to be removed from this teaching position. DO NOT TAKE.

i hate her. treated me like trash because my views were different than hers. tough grader, awful person, rude. I complimented her on an aspect of her assignment, she proceeded to look at me for the entirety of my compliment, then when i was finished she looked away without saying a word, as though i didnt even matter

Horrible teacher, she does nothing to help you. Pretty much you just guess your way through class. I don't suggest anyone to have her as a teacher.

This is the most difficult class I have ever taken, and it's an INTRO class. You cannot approach her without her making you feel stupid. I am a straight A student and did not get an A on a single assignment. The Dean will do nothing about her either, my class went from 30 students to 12 by the end. She is direspectful to students. DO NOT TAKE.

Honestly if you want a GOOD speech instructor take this class with Gary Friske at south campus. Avoid this lady. In our class she recorded our speeches, zoomed in on our faces, and played them back in class. Just terrible. Friske is amazing take him you'll pass with an A.

I took this class Fall 2015 semester and can honestly say one of the worst professors I have ever had. I have been public speaking for many years now and so I figured this class would be an easy A. Wrong. Speeches are worth a ridiculous amount of points and she grades them heavy. She is very disrespectful to students and very unapproachable.

There is so much unnecessary work in this introductory speech course. Mrs. Brown is unapproachable and she can be very rude to students. She makes things harder than they need to be and the three hour class is a waste of time. I will say I have learned some fundamentals of Speech, I would not recommend taking this course with her.

Gave us very confusing syllabuses and didn't clear up confusion. Was not flexible in the slightest. The only speech class I've taken outside of my advanced highschool that I got a c- in and I aced all prior advanced speech classes.

When you ask her a question, she demands you check the first day handout. That's reasonable, but when it's not in there, you can try to explain your question until you're blue in the face. She will stare at you blankly and silently and as soon as you're finished it's almost always followed with, "I don't understand what you're asking." DO NOT TAKE

Do not take this professor she is horrible. She does not answer any of your questions . Also she wont pass anyone on any speech even if you do great on it. DO NOT TAKE HER

The biggest problem I had was that this woman is teaching a public speaking course, yet she herself, is absolutely terrible at public speaking. Very monotoned, easily confused by questions and just very unnatural in the way she acts. Work is hard, but that's not a problem. It's just her grading and personality I have a problem with.

I am a very understand person, but she was at times just rude to people. She makes you feel stupid when you have a question and you never really know what she is asking for. The class isn't that hard she just makes you feel uncomfortable.

This professor is a tough professor to have. She is generally rude to students and doesn't answer questions well. The environment of the classroom is very negative. The speeches are graded very roughly and you have to make sure you read every single detail of the first day hand out. She is not a good speaker herself. I do not recommend this class

Worst prof ever had, treats students with disrespect, usually late for class, and is never willing to accommodate students. shes the hardest grader and her grades make no sense at all, thought i was passing the entire time, ended up with a D-, when i asked her about it she refused to show me what i did wrong.

I don't recommend this professor at all. My family member had her prior to me and warned me but I needed to take the course for General requirements. I'm a straight A student and received a poor grade in her course and had no choice but to drop her class. I felt she was very disrespectful to students. Very tough grader for an intro course.
