Wonderful - highly recommend. Nice attitude - take notes - they really help with the test.
Good Teacher
Best professor ever. wonderfully knowledgable about topic.
she's great! I highly recommend her.
Engaging instructor. VERY funny! Good information. Good class -- nice community in her classes, too.
wonderful teacher. she is the best professor that i have ever had at COS. she is a very down to earth person, who cares greatly for others. Take her!!!!!!!
She is the best teacher I've ever had. She is one of the reasons I decided to go back to school. I love her, she's great. She really inspires me.
she has to be the best teacher at COS!! and her stories are funny. especially the one about her farting in class. GEEZE! she is SO honest! i love her!! go cynthia!
She was fun to listin to. That makes the class she is intresting so you want to listen. She is awsome

An Amazing woman!!!
Good short-term class.
wonderful teacher, dont take speech with anyone else!! She's the best! Makes class fun with interesting and funny stories. Wonderful person!!!
CJ is one of the coolest teachers ever.
CJ is a great teacher!!! Alot of fun and makes the class interesting.
Mrs. C.J. ......... What a colorful and interstesting character. Take her if you hate the lame professors of cos. makes her class worth while, and does take the extra steps to insure her students will have a fun and worthwhile semester..... also a little blond bomb shell thats definately easy on the eyes.
Fun Class
She's cool, but she plays favorites. The speeches start getting harder and harder and she has tests, On speech??? Come on!!!She's alright overall.
The class sucks and she sucks too!!!
Everyone always said c.j is so nice and her class is so cool, but in my opinion her class was bad. She would bring her personal life into class and take it out on the students by being mean and rude sometimes.
She brought a lot of her personal problems to class. When giving her lectures often times she would get on these rants about her problems with her husband. She was a very fake person she would come into class acting like she was trying to win a popularity contest she was not professional on many levels. Worst class ever and waist of time.
I got so much out of her class. She uses all kinds of senarios to help explain the theory and although she talks very fast and moves fast through the material, she tries to be very clear and always willing to answer questions any time. I am looking forward to taking another class with her in the future.
she is an amazing teacher!! she's smart, funny, cool, and pretty. she makes the class so interesting. I loved it. I go to SDSU now and i still haven't had a teacher as coll as her
She does tell some funny stories, but is not a very good teacher. She does not use a text book because she does not really teach anything. She gives one lecture then gives a test with very ambiguous questions.90% of the class is listening to other people give speeches If you want to learn more than googling how to give a speech take somebody else.
Amazing teacher! She is interesting and fun, TAKE HER! :-]
she was really a fun teacher, i enjoyed her class a lot! she really made you think and everything made senses... i really recommend her. i passed her class with a B.
Show favortism towards some students. Ok class. Would not recommend it though.
Very fun and cute. She does seem to favorite some students, but get on her good side, like any other teacher and its an easy class. At first I wasn't a very good public speaker, but now I have no problem. Recommend her to any student that wants an A.
I took the online summer session for this class. I liked her style while face to face..but online clarity needs work. I was confused on some of the assignments and I had to read them several times..Other than that I loved this class and learned alot. I love her energy!
Horrible teacher, extremely unclear and unprofessional. Favors students and grades accordingly. Has typos on tests that she has been giving for 3 years. I would not recommend her to anyone. Not a hard class but extremely hard to interpret what she actually wants. Posts positive comments for her self on this site.
I took the online short-term class. I would not recommend it if you don't have much time to dedicate b/c it def goes super fast! Every week there is a quiz and something due on the discussions. All quizzes and exams are online which aren't very clear. She is a fun teacher when you meet but be prepared to go fast with lots of reading.
Don't listen to the people who say she was a bad teacher or she has her favorites. Cynthia was a wondeful teacher. I am now able to speak better in public mostly because of her class alone. She is a very nice woman, and has wonderful passions for her job. I still see her occasionally and she is always friendly. Take Cynthia. She's awesome!
I loveeeeee CJ! She was a great teacher and just a very inspiring person to be around! She is very enthusiastic and excited to teach. Impossible to fail her class.
A lot of speeches! What better way to get rid of speech jitters than giving them? No textbook either!
Incredibly interesting teacher. I took her hybrid class and wished there were more class meetings. CJ went out of her way to help and responded to questions immediately. She had a desire to see me learn and succeed. I highly recommend her class.
I had an online class with her. She's cool, but she plays favorites. She is not very clear on her syllabus. And when you miss an assignment and she'll always say "Oh you'll Be Fine" like really! Yeah I won't take her again.
Is an okay teacher. Really need to keep up on the online reading and make sure you study before test! It is true that she's not really helpful when you talk to her about missed tests or assignments.
She prefers her students call her CJ rather than Mrs. Johnson, how awesome is that!? She is super sweet & her class is an easy A if you show up every day the do the speeches, and NO REQUIRED TEXT! She's super easy to listen to because she's enthusiastic & of coarse adorable. If you have an A going into finals, YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THE FINAL SPEECH!
CJ is so awesome, but she is a bit unorganized. I took her short term class, we had about 2 quizzes every week, and our final was a speech. Very easy class in my opinion. I missed a test and didn't do so well on a few quizzes & final paper and still got a C :)
Johnson is so funny. You see her only a few days and have her for about half a semester. The quizzes were easy if you studied. They were about 23-26 questions, but they were quite about and often. Then you do a speech in front of your class and that's all! Very easy. She gives extra credit too! Ended up passing!
had her as a hybrid class online, she was funny and enjoyed the 4 times we met. test are from a test bank she doesn't choose or make them. test go up @ 6am-11pm every wk,no retake or making up missed test. I missed 2 test and had a few low scores and passed with a C. study, don't miss any meet days and give a good presentation and you will do fine
I loved Cynthia for her personality and the way she helps her students. She gives easy extra credit (donate to Goodwill or Blood Drive). Don't miss any quiztest online. It brings down your grade, and make sure you study or have book open with you. Some questions were confusing, but it's multiple choice. Final was speaking in front of class.
Very unclear while lecturing or describing assignments, so you don't always know what she wants out of a speech. Grades speeches a bit harshly. Not always willing to help students out. Test questions are very unclear. Kind of funny, and you can avoid a final, but there is a mandatory group project.
I took her 9 week Hybrid class. You meet 3 or 4 times. 1-2 quizzes a week, an easy assignment paper and a Speech is your final. CJ is funny and to the point. I thought the syllabus was disorganized and hard to follow, just mark everything on a calendar for yourself you'll be ok. She won't hand you an A, but put in some effort and you'll get an A
I took a hybrid fast track summer class, passed with a B. Missed one quiz. Pretty much read read read and take quizzes but quiz question are confusing and didnt correlate with the chapter that easily. Theres one speech that was easy and a paper and your done. Shes a funny lady, each time I had a question she resonded immediately almost always.
you have to beg her for help because she is one of those teachers who believes she answers everything in her syllabus and if you can't understand it you must just be stupid. she sits and talks to you like you're doing fine and getting everything but then you receive your grade and its nothing like what you expect. i missed 3 quizzes and lost 200 pt
says she will be there to help you. but when you ask for help she just says "my syllabus has all the answers". the chapters never go with the quizzes so no matter how much you read the test will still be confusing to you. she sits there during your presentations and says you did an amazing job and is impressed but then your score doesn't show that.
This was my second time taking this. The first time I had a horrible experience with another instructor. Cynthia was awesome and despite my fear of giving a speech I did fine and got my A. She also gave us extra credit for donating.
A great professor. Full of energy. A must take
One of the best teachers at COS! Her tests are very hard, but she grades really reasonably on speeches. She's full of energy and you can tell that she really loves what she's doing and cares about her students. If I could take every class she teaches I would!
CJ is down to earth with an awesome personality. You can tell she loves what she does and wants her students to succeed. Offers extra credit. Tests are doable but you must read the material! Speech final is fairly easy she tells you to the T what she wants. Her outlook is everyone starts with an A it's your job to keep it. She wears cute clothing(:
I was a bit surprised of the difficulty of this class. It was a hybrid class so few meeting sessions and most work online. LOTS OF READING! There was a quiz every few days or weekly. The quizzes were the toughest part of the class. I recommend reading the chapter then making notes to reference while you take the quiz. Speech not bad 1.5-2 min long.
Wonderful teacher! She is enthusiastic, thorough and has a genuine interest in helping her students understand and absorb the materials. She gives entertaining presentations, I almost wish I had not taken this as an online course, I enjoy her so much! I think actual full lectures would have been been fantastic to experience. You will have to READ!!
Straight to the point teacher. Really caring for students and will meet you anywhere when accessed outside of class. Down to earth and carries a swagger to her style. Simple class but pay attention to lecture or wont pass tests.
CJ is awesome. She is straight to the point and hilarious. I took the hybrid class and we only met once a month for three months. Everything was mainly online. We had weekly quizzes on each chapter- make sure not to forget! We had one speech to do. I am terrified of public speaking, but it wasn't too bad. Overall, I would take her again.
By far one of the best teachers I have ever had. Really down to earth and easy to talk to and go to for guidance. Pretty funny too.
CJ is thee nicest professor Ive ever had. She makes you really work for your grade. If you dont really like public speaking you will be more confident after this class. Shes awesome, would definitely take her again!
CJ is an awesome lecturer!! Very funny, caring and just absolutely the best. She does make you work for your grade and give a full on lecture on the syllabus on he first day! And assigns LOTS of homework and gives many quizzes.
AMAZING. Absolutely loved by our entire class. CJ is a gem and understands students with public speaking anxiety. She helps students and gives good feedback. The tests aren't graded as heavy as the speeches. Make sure you attend class, she docks points if you don't.
I loved this course! A hybrid course so very few meetings, pay attention to instructions given, if you have a question email C.J. she is very good about replying. The most accessible instructor I have ever had. I learned a lot from this course and C.J. is outstanding!!
Make sure you pay attention to the due dates and do your work. If you do, you'll be fine. Great teacher!
Learned so much from this professor that communications became my major! Shes amazing and very funny. Pay attention to the due dates and follow the syllabus to the T and this class should be easy! She even allows extra credit in the form of blood donations and goodwill donations! Will be taking her for other classes for sure!
She is a very easy going professor. I loved her energy and how excited she always was to teach. Make sure you pay attention to due dates because she does follow her syllabus to the T. She gives extra credit in the form of blood donations or goodwill donations (either or). If I ever needed another Comm class I would take it with her no hesitation.
Take her short term Comm. 4 class. Maybe skip her for Comm. 1. The quiz questions didn't always make sense. She grades your attendance. You will have to put in some effort to get the grade you want for her class. She's funny and is accommodating if you let her know whats up.
She is super funny. Recommend taking her for psychology 1. She is understandable and gives kahoot extra credit points. You will have two presentations(midterm and final). She gives one simple homework assignment a week and online quizzes every week.
I enjoyed this class & the professor, showing up for class did matter & paying attention to the lecture. She is funny & kind. You can able to reach her out of class through email which is good.
I'd recommend this professor if you can follow the deadlines. The tests are extremely confusing sometimes and reading just the book doesn't help all the time. Not a super easy class but doable. Great professor and very funny!
Not so much a tough grader but the test questions don't always make sense and don't follow the material. SHe wrote the book you have to use and it's scattered much like her lecture style and syllabus. I'm going to squeak by with a B and I have A's in PSY001, Eng001, Human Anatomy (hardest class at the school). Poor professor in my opinion.
This professor will tell you to email her for help but when you do she is short and rude with you. Her tests hardly have anything to do with her book, and her book is partly made up of horrible quality YouTube videos shes found. Her tests have tons of typos in it so it goes to show you how much work shes put into it. I would never recommend her.
She is so funny. Highly recommend her hybrid COMM4 class. Only went in four times. Tests are a little confusing, but if you understand the chapter, you'll pass. She grades easy on papers and speeches. Make sure to show up to class. She was very helpful outside of class, even when going through a family crisis. Highly recommend her as a professor.
You can read the chapter in the book she wrote 20 times, watch the crappy YouTube videos and still get like 75%-85% on the tests. Material doesn't correlate, tons of errors in tests. I flat out showed her a question that is incorrect based on the text.. her response "I wrote the book, the editors wrote the test". Well it's still wrong! Stay Away!
CJ is actually a pretty cool lady and she's nice about critiquing your speeches, but she doesn't hand out A's. You do have to work a little bit, if you want an A, but that mostly has to do with paying attention and taking notes during her lecture. If you can make it through the semester without any absences then you get extra credit. :) 10/10 prof.
AVOID THIS TEACHER! Online tests are ludicrous. E-text is poorly written and reads like she put every word into a thesaurus. Questions on quizzes are grammatically incorrect, misspelled, inaccurate, etc. You can find the answer in her text that supports an entirely different answer, but still get it wrong. When you email about it, she blows you off
Great class to take online, you do have to attend 4 classes in person, the last one is a speech. Very nice woman, accessible by email.
CJ is an awesome professor - you will NOT be disappointed.
Johnson was hilarious and answered all of my questions whenever I had any. However her e-text is poorly written and does not support answers in her quizzes. She tells you to read but put things in youre own words in order to actually get the correct answers for quizzes. Speech was easy and offers easy extra credit.
Take literally any of the other Communications teachers. My friends warned me about her and yep they were right. I should have listened! Her online classes are narrow and she writes her own textbooks. anytime you find a teacher that writes their own book. RUN AWAY! Her books are like her, all over the place!
Quizzes are based on the textbook written by her, as long as you pay attention while reading, you'll do fine on the quizzes. There are only 4 class dates, the last one is a mandatory speech. If you're not a fan of public speaking or struggle with anxiety, this is a good class to fulfill the comm requirement. Speech was straightforward and easy.
Her book is written poorly and is so hard to understand. Tests dates were constantly changed when they appeared to be consistent. Very nice and funny. Highly wouldn't recommend for someone who isn't prepared to check to see if a test is open everyday. Take anything else and if you can't then just wait for the next semester.
Textbook is really truly awful, poorly written and doesn't make sense. A lot of it seems like opinion, doesn't cite sources, etc. This is the only non-self paced online class I have ever taken, and I would not recommend it. The class structure is really a mess, and I would definitely recommend taking this class with a different professor.
She was an amazing and hardworking professor who genuinely cares for her students. Not that the class is a breeze, and attendance is basically mandatory to pass, it is very easy to attain A's in her classes with just a basic work ethic.
Mrs. Johnson is truly great. She responds quickly to emails, provides feedback when necessary and is understanding that her students have lives outside of class. I read through the other comments and understand the complaints regarding quizzes, but if you are reading the chapters and grasp the concepts, the quizzes are extremely easy. Easy A.
CJ was a great professor. She does use her own textbook so you do have to read, but it is good material and worth it for the grade. She is very helpful and gets back to emails extremely fast. good feedback and also hilarious! Taken two courses from her and would take more
Very cool class!
I took her short-term course. If you take advantage of the 2 extra credit zoom calls she does, you should pass the class just fine. Some of her tests have questions that aren't related to the chapters, so beware. Each test was open book/note. There were two mandatory discussion boards, one 2 min speech, and the rest of her assignments were tests.
Professor Johnson was a funny, easy to access during emails(answers fast). Look at the syllabus do NOT just glimpse at it every you need will be on there. Doesnt accept late work for any reasons. She wrote her own book which means all the tests are based on her opinion. She wont remind you of assignment (make sure to stay on top of your work!!!
Great and lenient professor, easy to pass if you keep up with work. She wrote her own book so your gonna have to read alot in order to pass. Overall great professor and not too hard to pass.
doesn't communicate well for a communications professor. literally read a chapter of her book, that isn't written well, and take a test. every week. spotty office hours. does not update her quizzes or syllabus.
The book was written by CJ, it is a little hard to understand at points. You will need to read the book and then answer the quiz questions. There was only 2 discussions, not really anything that makes your mind really think about the material, just read the book and take the quiz. I would have liked something else than doing tests every week.
I do not like the way she structures her class on Canvas. She has all of the assignments for the semester in the syllabus and expects you to go back and read when everything is due each week. She does not set reminders in the modules or calendar on Canvas. This has caused me to forget a few assignments. Assignments are also due at 11 and not 11:59.
She's an okay teacher. There's a discussion boards due every week but literally every time you answer your discussion board, she will say you didn't do it properly you even if you think you did good. Feels like nothing satisfies her.
Has an attitude and is VERY unhelpful! Worst professor I have ever had. Dropped her class twice.
Definitely recommend Professor Johnson to anyone! Lectures were amazing. Exams are online. Extra credit opportunities. Points for attendance, well worth it. Student advocate.Very motivational.
Super good! Very informative. Gives points for coming to class.
I took a hybrid in person/online class with CJ and even though I didn't have too much in-person class time, (once a week) I still was able to stay on track and understand the material. There is a lot of reading involved, but the reading was very interesting to me. I highly recommend taking CJ for this course.
She has you use a textbook that she has written and the questions to the tests will not be on there. Also, when taking a test, she is very strict. The test is timed(30 min - 20 questions)Once you hit next to go to the next question, you can't go back and fix it.
She is a bit of a stickler. Her online classes are scheduled. So that 'asynchronous' isn't so asynchronous. Her grading criteria is confusing and has lots of rules for no apperant reason. Probably a nice person though.
My second class w CJ. While she is nice, she makes it so hard to navigate the course. If you have any questions and you email her, she won't just give you a direct answer, she'll tell you to go look through Canvas to find the answer yourself bc everything is "in the syllabus" Annoying bc she sets Canvas up in such a difficult way to navigate
CJ is amazing! I enjoyed taking her class it was super easy. I feel like as long as you participate and complete assignments on time there is no reason not to pass her class. If you need help just ask her she is so willing to help her students about anything. She also gives EC. I hope to take her class again in the future. (This was a Summer course)
Beware of this professor, what is written about her and the lack of information given compared to what she tests you on is true. I would honestly recommend you find another teacher, for a communications teacher she is very much lacking in that regard definitely cannot recommend.
this class was a blur. all work was online so I don't know what the professor was like (except that she sent out a LOT of reminders) I did not learn a single thing but it was easy. based on her emails, I don't think I would have liked her as an in person prof
This professor acts friendly and caring in class, but once you submit an assignment, she's ruthless. She grades unfairly, nitpicking the smallest details of your speech or peer review. No second chances, no quiz reopenings. She claims there's “extra credit,” but it's practically nonexistent.
Pretty great teacher.
She's known as a tough but fair grader whose clear rubrics, concise mini‑lectures, and interactive discussions reward students who come prepared and stay engaged. I asked plenty of questions, even if the answers were in the readings, and she always clarified patiently.
Really loved this class, I took the hybrid 1 day a week class, the assignments were really easy, and she really made it a great environment for public speaking, very easy grader and provided lots of extra credit. Just an absolute joy to be in her class.
Says a peer reply that met requirements, complimented the writer, self-related, and recommended sections from our textbook to help the poster is "lacking engagement." Grades before you submit everything, tells you its wrong, then gives a zero and doesn't respond for several days. And my poem about my mental health wasn't "deep enough" I could go on
A lot to read, but only 1 assignment at the end of the week, and it's a test. It is sometimes hard to find the information needed for this class, but it is fine.
