There's a lot of diagrams to memorize for her class, but overall she is a good professor, tests are multiple choice and some short answers.
This is one of the best classes I have ever taken. She is the best professor, explains clearly with diagrams, helpful, and the tests are straight from her notes. You don't even need the book.
extremely bad physio teacher. she spent 3 weeks going over cell membrane and ever since we have been behind so she just gave handouts on entire sections. no book correlation, out of breath/anxious when teaching, makes an interesting subject seem boring and simply wants to get through material
Try avoiding her. You will save a semester. I don't know how she became a Professor because all she does is write on the board while her breath is running out every second and rushes through the material. She gives so much useless information that a human is not capable of learning.
You will not enjoy this class!! She falls way behind in her lectures because she goes into extreme detail. Her tests are m.c., essay, and fill-in (which makes it a pain to study.) Also, she gives an overload of info on each test and rushes teaching the info when she realizes she's behind.
she has no teaching skills whatsoever. her tests are hard and are not corralted with lecture notes. monotone, put you to sleep.ask for many things that are not part of the course.
I think she couldnt get into med school that is why she is making this class so hard. If you are a bio major or not take it with robbins or kopooshian. This lady is hard, and and she doesnt care about the students what so ever. Her avg test scores have been 50% overall. Ur an idiot if u take her.
very hard and not clear .... her question are tricky and difficult to understand .... the class average is in the 60%... no teaching skills ... expect everyone to know what she knows... bad bad prfessor
she gave me so much stress over all of that studying especially for the final and i already forgot everything the next day when i woke up in the morning and had some breakfast. i dont know. what can i tell you?
Tough teacher, doesn't explain anything too well..including why the class average is so low. There must've been a huge curve because I managed to pass with a C somehow.
GREAT Professor. Explaines everything really well. Great notes!!!
Her testing is different. The big picture's overlooked, and extremely unimportant details are tested. Her time management is very poor, and she'll dump it on you for the final. People cheat in her class without her enforcing it. She is nice, helpful, and easy to understand. Organization is poor. Powerpoints not online; sits outside of her office
her tests are out of this world. she tests you on irrelevent information that is so minor that it is not even worth testing you. take anyone else that you can. she offers powerpoint notes.
I'll be the first to say that I like her. Her notes are amazing. She's very clear, concise, and to the point organized. That's the kind of professor I like. Her and Cindy Malone are great. Jeannine Chari needs a lesson from these two. If you study Kay-Nishima's lecture notes you're guaranteed an A in the class. No biology class is easy so STUDY
She grades unfairly, and her tests don't match up with lecture.
I enjoyed this class because she is very organized and gives good notes so there's no reason for you not to pass this class with a grade of B or better. It's not an easy subject. It's very intense. There's a ton of information you need to know and remember. You need to have the capacity to be able to memorize 40+ pages of notes. Not kidding.
Yeah, what do you expect from a professor that takes a full week's vacation during the semester. I should have failed but she passed me anyways. Take her if you dont want to learn anything but just want to get by.
If you are a student that likes lectures that make sense, move at a reasonable pace, and actually provide information, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She wasted SO much of my time spoon-feeding information to all the people that talk during lectures then whine that she didn't explain such basic concepts as Parts of the Cell. Take someone else, please.
First of all, all students should know that cell bio is a hard subject. If u all cannot handle it, then all u need to rethink your major! I took her for cell bio and yes she was not easy and u have to study hard but she is fair & very helpful, a great professor and does a good job of explaining everything. All u have to do is attend class and study
Anatomy Class. Professor has powerpoint lectures...only 3 exams, nothing else. Very good in terms of lectures. Tests come DIRECTLY off powerpoint notes, however...there are a lot of notes to memorize for one test, but if you do, you'll get an A. I got lazy and didn't memorize all notes, so got a B. But VERY nice, helpful, overall good instructor
The professor was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. She provides extra credit which can move you up a letter grade. Of course if you expect to get a good grade you have to devote time to study. Midterms are multiple choice and some fill in the blanks..VERY EASY CLASS AND PROFESSOR!
don't listen please to people who write bad about this professor, maube they are not a good student who jump out of the class without having any respect. syudy all notes very very detailed! It is a very hard class but she is the best that can explain anatomy in the easiest way!
Didn't care too much for her. I agree that her tests were very detailed to the point of "who gives a damn". Lectures are alright. She has powerpoint notes, so she should offer them online. Disliked her lecture format, her power points only listed topics, then she supplimented with her lecture. It's hard to listen to her and franticly copy the notes.
this class is very very very very hard... too much material .... she wants us to n=know everything .....don't ever take a class with her
This professor is lazy but the class is not that bad. If you don't study you won't do well. She does expect you to know the pictures in the book but her multiple choice is easy and her quiz's are easy too.
Anatomy 310 is a very hard class. There is a lot to remember which is why it is very difficult but as long as you study you should do fine, just keep up and put extra time into the work. She herself is a good teacher
Great teacher. Everything thats on the tests is in the notes. No tricks. Just come to class, study the Powerpoints, memorize the diagrams, and thats it. Didn't crack the book the entire semester and got an A. Just don't fall behind, theres no way to "cram" for this class.
Great class! She makes it easy to understand cell bio...and if you study her notes really well you will do good in her class. By the way i'm not white and I'm a girl and I got an A in the class. Th below comment is bull
This is a very difficult class. I wouldnt say that she is tricky at all, its just a lot of work you need to memorize. I highly recommend you study everyday for this class.I wish i did.. I studied full 3 days before exams and ended up with a C+, really try to study a little everyday
If you want to pass this class you have to buy the book and read it prior to any test. She has powerpoint slides and they are really helpful if you attend every class. BUY THE BOOK if you want to pass, I did.
In this class you only need to buy the book for the online access code to download all the lectures. I managed not to open it for anything else. The professor knows her stuff well and explains clearly. I was terrified of Biology before but she made it very interesting and I learned a lot. And got a pretty good grade. Take it if you want to learn!!
If you think this class is hard please change your major. She gives you all you need for her test. i put about 2 days before each test and I got a perfect score on my test. What else you need?
Good instructor. However, amt on info and the slightest detail that she expects u to know is daunting. Requires a lot of studying, record lectures. Study weekly. FInal is cumulative. Was much easier previously. Very hard now. Don't expect a curve!!!
All we do in this class is watch power points. It's so boring towards the end of the semester i stopped going. Everyhting is online so don't buy the book it's a waste of money you can't sell it back. We have 5 tests and there kind of hard and the final is cumulative there's like more than 10 chapters on it.She also offers 25 extra credit points.
This was the easiest bio class i have ever taken! All her notes are on powerpoints and the tests follow them. No need for the I opened it twice this semester. The only class you have to attend is when she actually lectures on the board but I rarely went and got an A in the class.
Very good teacher, just a really hard class. Can't get lazy, need to keep up with power points and study well before the exam. She asks a lot of detailed questions. Not recommended if you are a procrastinator, need to really put in the work.
extremely boring for one. Right off the bat, I was tallying how many times you could distinctively hear her "mm-kay" after her pauses (which she does alot), however despite all of that, she is very clear in her lectures, there is ALOT of stuff to memorize so dont try cramming the material, and she clears up any confusions, but once again, boring!
HARD. u need a memory of gold to pass this one@!@ asks most stuff off powerpoint slides, but theres a lot.. ridiculous. What's worse, she's the ONLY teacher for anatomy too!
Dr. Nishiyama is a great professor with a great amount of knowledge in her field. The class is not easy, but it's very managable. You just gotta keep up with it through out. Make anatomy a lifestyle. it won't come easy, but once you get goign it's chill. She is helpful. go to office hours and she'll help.
Don't buy the book. 2 exams(100pts). Cumulative final(150pts). She's sooo detailed on the exams, but she's a great instructor and is a genius. You can't slack in this class, but it is VERY possible to pass this class.
She is not asian she is white. We didnt use da book so dont buy it unless you wana study at home powerpoints are online even with all that said she expects you to study like 7 hours a week and her course is HARD!!
The material in this class is not easy but she's a really good teacher. The people that don't like her teaching are the one failing the class. She explains the material very well and presents it while comparing to real life which helps students master the class. The only problem with her is her test questions...she likes to be tricky!
I am an A student and no matter how much studying I do I can't seem to do well in this class. The quizzes and tests are irrelevant with regard to the material she covers in lecture. This material should not be this hard, but she covers it so badly that it is impossible to do well in her class. She is a lovely women, but her class is not.
It's remarkable to listen to everyone complain about how hard she is. This is human physiology, not intro to bio. Of course it's hard! She was fair, but God, physio is hard. If you commit, you will get an A. If you don't, it's easy to fail. It was an awesome class tho. Stay on top of ur studying or you will be screwed
I took her both for bio 107 and physio. Those that are complaining about her are just a bunch of lazy people. She is one of the best teachers I had. You dont need the text book and her quizzes/exams are based on her notes only. she explains very clearly. I ended up recording her classes at the end and not showing up and I got an easy A.She curves
She's a great professor. Most of her test/quiz info comes from her lectures, going to class or at least recording her lectures is extremely important. You definitely have to study for Physiology though. It's not a class for slackers.
AVOID TAKING HER. She is the most confusing person ever. She works off powerpoints, and flips though them quickly. Its impossible to get an A or a B, and she tells you this at the beginning of the class. DO NOT TAKE HER, you will FAIL or barely pass. She is useless during her office hours, and will piss you off in class. SEARCH for a different prof
Class is hard, you should attend every lecture and take extremely detailed notes. her tests and quizes are all directly from her notes, however she is tricky on the wording of her questions. Dedicate A LOT of your time to studying for this class and you will do fine.
Professor Kay is the BEST professor I have ever had!She is very helpful and a very sweet lady!make sure to study lots because biology is not easy.Go to lecture and record it to get the most out of it possible.Study for everything as if it were an exam.visit her office hours and get on her good side too.Good luck studying!
I went into this class expecting to have a difficult time, so I was very relieved to find that Dr. KN was..everything you could want out of an instructor. She lectures on all of the important stuff, answers questions, etc. Seriously, just follow the basic formula for success in a class. Lecture, notes, study, test, done, yay.
This professor is absolutely excellent. Lectures were crystal clear, exams were super straight-forward. Attendance is mandatory, since she covers a lot in one day. Take her tips on how to study for the course, and you'll be golden. Very easy and enjoyable A. Good luck!
Nice lady. Difficult class. Memorize. Memorize. Memorize. Make flashcards from the beginning of the semester!!! Thats the KEY to passing this class. Also do the extra credit. Its totally worth it. Easy (cite sources). Totally saved my grade.
Kay is a great professor. The class material itself is not hard, but requires alot of study. The book is not needed, tests straight off lecture notes so must attend class. No homework, just three tests so important to study alot before tests. I would take her again, teaches at a good pace and is very clear.
she is very good at explaining the topics, but she seems a little disorganized at times. her lectures can be all over the place. if you study you should do well. there are only 2 exams plus the final. they're all multiple choice and short answer. I thought the class was fairly easy and got an A.
Tests are almost purely based on lecture notes, with very little use of the textbook. She curves a little, but only about 3-5% on the overall course grade. Course is based solely on tests so do not rely on extra credit or hw points. Teacher is nice and very clear. I just wished she had more office hours.
She has been one of my favorite professors at csun. Extremely knowledgeable & clear; if you ever plan on taking the MCAT, she will be an asset as she is very thorough and detailed. Tests are based almost completely on the lectures (make sure you attend or you stand no chance of passing)
She is soo unorganized. Everything was Ok until the last week of the semester!! She gave us 6 chapters in the last week, so a lot of students(including me) missed up on the final, which lowered our grades. Do Not take her
She is one of my favorite professors at CSUN. She is VERY knowledgeable and will answer student questions during class. The courses she teaches are rigorous, but you will leave with a thorough understanding of the subject. GO TO CLASS and take detailed notes; reading the book is superfluous.
She's completely redundant when she teaches, knows what shes talking about but struggles to relay it to students clearly. Uses powerpoint mainly, and says its common that 50 percent of her class fails the first test. Kind of terrible.
Clear, thorough, and to the point. The course was extremely dry for human physio (it's actually an incredibly interesting subject!) but I feel I got a pretty solid foundation in the subject from Dr. K-N. The textbook is not necessary and she tests directly off of her powerpoint/board notes.
Take this class if you want your GPA ruined. She is hard. Gives you tedious exams and doesn't explain many concepts clearly. She just around a lot, will say one thing and then change it a minute later. Very high stress class
That was terribly hard... The final was terrible. My mistake is that I did not study everyday. If you guys want an A, study everyday, and remember EVERYTHING until the day of the FINAL EXAM. or else that final will devastate your grade. You can't even afford to have a low test grade in this class.
I understand that her exams are challenging but fair. However when we asked how we should study for the cumulative portion of the final she said "you can't really study that part, it's the basics." Wrong!! She put all little details from the exams, no basics. Plus she does NOT curve. A LOT of people got horrible scores but that didn't phase her. Take her only if its you're ONLY class.
One of the better professors you can take for cell biology. Ppl majoring in biology should not complain about this class. We had minimum usage of the book(which was great) and all the info for the exams was from her lectures. About 20% of the class got an A... She was always available for office hours and stayed as long as need be. Definitely recom
Cell bio is a hard class overall due to the amount of information you have to retain. Prof kay is pretty straightforward on what she's gonna cover on her exams. We were really behind at the end so we had to cram ALOT of material into the final but if you've reviewed every 3-4 days (as expected) you should have no issue. It's straight memorization.
First off, I want to say that there is alot of information to learn in this class. Professor K is by the far the best teacher I have had at csun. She teaches it to you in plain english. She makes her own picture diagrams so we don't get confused with books diagrams. Review notes every night or you might get lost.
The worst class ever!!!! If you want to pass bio then I suggest you do not take her !!!!!
Subject can be confusing but she makes it clear to understand. Her tests get progressively harder. She ran out of time and made us watch lecture videos that lasted for HOURS (not exaggerating) in a short amount of time. Show up to class to earn points for quizzes and assignments. All quizzesexams based heavily on her lecture notesslides.
Freshman level class with freshman rules - attendance matters and she doesn't post all the materials online in order to purposely punish students who miss class. Will not answer questions on things what chapters covered in class citing her syllabuscontract that you must sign. Non-bio majors beware, this is not the prof for you.
Honestly, the class was really easy. If you aren't dumb then you should be fine. She gave lectures every class meeting that are boring. As long as you write everything down and read it over you should be fine. Got A's on all her tests then slacked off for the rest of the semester (bad Idea). Cumulative final, but not that bad. Just study! it's easy
2 tests, 1 final. All her material on the tests are from lectures and slides. Forget about reading the book. Shes nice and is helpful during office hours. Worst part about this class is how she uploads video lectures for you to cram last second..
Don't take her class its hard she dose not curve the tests or quizes . You have work really hard for C at least . Three midterm and one final the midterm.
She knows her stuff and is a very good lecturer, so it's easy to stay focused and pay attention. Textbook not needed as long as you attend every lecture and take excellent notes. Going to class is worth it because she will have a daily upload which counts for a good portion of grade. The 18 or so quizzes are not too hard if you study before them.
I honestly liked her as a person, but her tests were difficult. She was great at teaching material, but the exams were tricky and even the smallest details were on the test. The only way to survive this class is if you teach it yourself. I personally don't recommend this class for people who already struggle in BIO, like myself. Better off online!
Okay so this professor goes strictly off her powerpoint. Book is not needed but can be useful. HWs are through a website which she makes you buy the code for. Tests are very tough, she makes the answers difficult to choose. Its more about which one is the best correct answer. Posts her lectures online with recordings of her class
Dr. Kay teaches you a lot but is not super interesting. Your grade is based on the 3 midterms, 1 final (not cumulative), and online homework. You need to take good notes in class and memorize all the sides/notes b/c she is very specific on her tests . I got an A but I had to work hard for it. Also do the extra credit, it brings your grade up a lot!
Loved her as a person, but her lectures could have been more interesting! She reads straight off the power point and is very detailed, so pay attention. 3 exams (non-cumulative), 1 final (cumulative), and lots of online homework. Know specifics, and work hard. Can't complain about a biology class being challenging! In class assignments at random.
Worst teacher ever! Please listen to me and do not take her class. She reads straight off her power points and does not explain anything. If you do not try your hardest in this class you will fail.
Absolute worst professor I have ever had. All homework assignments are done through Sapling. She does not curve, she is not confident while giving lectures, test are extremely hard, her grading is confusing... the list goes on. After taking the final she emailed us and said she messed up on grades and some may drop lower, very unorganized.
This professor makes Bio easy to understand as long as you come to her lectures. She bases her lectures on her powerpoints and she adds on other information that may be on the test. Her tests are not difficult as long as you study her powerpoints. She also gives extra credit that will boost your grade by a lot. Homework is also PowerPoint based.
Very nice woman however she is not confident in what she explains and it's hard to understand her sometimes. Tests are difficult and very specific. No curve. I like her character but I probably wouldn't take her again.
The key to getting an A in this class is to watch the lecture captures & take your own notes on everything she says. Notes will come in handy when you need to study for the cumulative final at the end. 3 tests & a cumulative final, all of which are straight from her lectures. EC 30 Points. LISTEN TO LECTURE CAPS, MEMORIZE WHAT SHE SAYS & GET AN A.
Flash cards are highly recommended for this class. You can't just sit and listen to what she says and think it will be fine when the exam comes. Her questions are sort of tricky and makes you indecisive because they all sound the same. Make sure you write down notes on the stuff she says and remember everything!!
Prof Kay-Nishiyama was clear. Her presentations are on moodle. There are 3 tests and a final. They are all relatively easy. Quizzes are grouped with homework, so it isn't too bad if you bomb them. She has them to force you to study ahead of the test and help you realize what you dont know.
Took her in the summer! Amazing! She teaches everything crystal clear and precise so you actually understand what's going on. Interesting topics too. Uploads during class, weekly quizzes, online videos to help, and NEVER needed the book! Just study her lectures after every class and you'll do great. Wish she taught all bio classes!
You got to work for your grade. She is a sweet woman. There is ALOT of memorization in this course. If you give yourself enough time to memorize everything you will be ok. Tests are ok except the essay parts because they can be random questions on anything from lecture. Test and quizzes are from lecture notes. Book not needed.
Professor Nishayama is incredibly unorganized and unfair. She does not stick to what she advises the first week of school so don't adhere to what she says about not needing the book or only having "occasional" quizzes. Be prepared to be rushed through some of the most difficult concepts in class and WATCH THE EXTRA VIDEOS she posts.
3 exams, no study guides, no semi-specific hints on what will be on them. Daily quiz/assignment. Quizzes are terrible. Class average for exams in class of 120 were D's. Doesn't care about iPad issues. Rushes even with warning and must learn much material outside of class. No PLF or curve. Too much material. Even if you attend, no guarantee of pass
Probably the worst upper division bio prof I ever had. All tests are based of lecture, but every lecture you are left with being even more confused. So disorganized, extra videos needed to be watched outside of class because time constraint. Class average for the each exam was a D. Absolutely horrible.
The exams are out of this world, super detailed and difficult! The class average for the 2 midterms and the final was a D. Did better than average on all 3 exams and barely passed with a C. NO CURVE!
She knows her material and more than willing to help you pass. However, her canvas is a mess and the grading is NOT clear at all. Pure memorization class. Test are incredibly tough with many multiple choices containing more than 5 choices than the usual 4 choices. 1 essay question for each test and final is cumulative.
Grades are mostly based on 3 midterms and a final, test questions are tough. This class is a drag, her lectures are boring and straight off a powerpoint
Idk what other people are saying, but she teaches clearly. Class is lecture/memorization heavy and you need to write down what she says word for word, but if you review 1-2 hours after every lecture and a week ahead of tests, you will do good. Only annoying thing is how detailed she is and that she doesn't help people if canvas crashes during tests
I don't understand why other people expect her to have the easiest tests/not study for class. Yes, cell bio is hard but if you put in the time, then you can get an A. However, she does run out of time a lot and makes you watch several lectures on your own time, which was kind of annoying so make sure you start those early because it takes a while.
She is not hard, just watch her lecture capture and memorize the material. However, she must really hate giving out As because she makes it almost impossible. Only graded by 3 things: 2 midterm exams, homework assignments, and a final. She makes you teach yourself with her tutorials. trash. just test on what you teach IN CLASS.
She is a good professor and knows a lot about the subject, but her lecturing can be monotone and boring so it might be hard to pay attention. She gives you everything you need to know for the test during the lectures so if you go over that you will be fine. The class has 2 tests, a final, in class activities, and online homework.
Please dont take her , Im saying this for you and your GPA she is a horrible lecturer. She isnt that detailed during her lecture and goes over many many concepts fast and theyll be on the exam and you will be like WHAT? gives super HARD easy questions during exams and wants you to remember EVERY DETAIL FOR EVERYTHING ITS LIKE IMPOSSIBLE hard!
The class is very, very, very, lecture-heavy. She is a nice professor and there isn't a lot of work in the class itself, however, make sure you take really good lecture notes every class. The tests are completely based off what she says in the lectures. She posts her lectures using lecture capture, listen and take notes from them before every exam
She's a nice person, and easy to talk too. She is just not the best at teaching. There's a lot better professors than her, at first I thought she was good; then I realized I was just teaching myself all the material at home. Every year she might change her grading, some semesters have mandatory homework, some semester won't. Exams are could be hard
Literally the worst professor Ive ever had. Exams are very lecture heavy and have difficult questions that aim to trick you. She is insensitive and literally wants people to fail. Even if the exams are based on the lecture you never know what will be on it. She will spend 3 classes on a subject and only ask one question on the exam.
Her exams are what makes the class difficult.
Doesnt care about students and the exams are impossibly difficult.
Exams were ridiculously hard. Very picky on essay questions. I studied for two weeks straight and barely passed her second exam. Average on the first exam was a D, average on the second exam was an F, highest grades were B+. Refuses to curve, says that she is willing to fail more than 50% of a class, and doesn't really seem to care about students.
Pretty much what you should expect from an upper level Bio class. Everything on her exams is covered in the lectures, and she tells you exactly what details you need to memorize. Her exams are not easy, but if you take good notes from the lectures and understand pathways/processes you should be fine. Pay attention in lectures and understand them.
Her class is so confusing. She dosen't know what to talk about at times she just goes based off a powerpoint. Wish I knew this website earlier. Had to repeat same course but next semester I will choose a better professor. Just letting you guys know my experience.
Pure lecture class. No discussion. Lectures are power point based and pretty dry. You have to memorize every little detail with no guidance on what will be tested. Tests are difficult, especially short answers - you can put 90% of what she said and get a 1/10 on the question. She does do limited EC.
The worst professor ever in the whole campus. Such disorganized, unprofessional, careless, helpless and laughs on students!!! what a waist of time. Do not take her be careful!!!!!!!! She's beyond horrible!!
The most unprofessional professor I have ever seen!! She's horrible and completely does not have a knowledge on how to teach!! Her test are very heavy and the questions are completely phrased differently from the slides!!
DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!!! Her lecture capture is very heavy and expect you to write down everything she says in class. This a bio class which means when you do not understand , you can go back and listen to the lecture capture. Guess what, the lecture capture does not work and she doesn't care about it. she does not care about students at all!
no... just no.. do you care about your gpa? dont take her.
She knows her stuff, but the presentation of the material is boring. Stack that with the fact that unless you are extremely imaginative as well as focused, it's impossible to retain the spacial/functional order of cellular information. WATCH THE VIDEOS IN THE BOOK! You need to understand everything as a system! not as separate definitions.
I have always gotten A's and B's but this class, OH MY GOD, its Hard. Her test are phrase differently from her slides. Her lectures are boring and will make fall asleep if you aren't paying attention. IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR GRADE I RECOMMEND NOT TO TAKE HER CLASS. SHE DOESN'T CARE.
she lectures one thing but test on are another. Very boring professor looks like she even bores herself. Nice lady ?? yeah guess so. Good professor ? Noooo. Don't think Albert Einstein would have passed this class either. DO NOT TAKE. Rather take a scooter to the ankle.
She is a good professor at teaching biology. I recommend attending class even though attendance is not required, you learn better and more when you do attend. She is nice as well.
Despite what the reviews say, this class was not difficult at all. All you really need to do is show up and listen and do the homework... maybe review a bit before tests and quizzez. If you're lazy and don't pay attention then this class probably isn't for you.
Throughout the whole semester, everything kept changing she went from lectures online to lectures on zoom, It was the inconsistency 4 me. I felt like the material was easily understandable but she made It harder than It needed 2 be. less time on quizzes. You have to calculate ur own grade. Overall a sweet lady but would not take again!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR EVER! Did not listen to us when we complained about the quizzes being hard and said "the average student can respond a question in 30s". Quizzes are insanely hard and you have no time have to "think outside of the box". There 13 quizzes and 2 mini exams. WE ALL COMPLAINED ABOUT HER TO THE DEPARTMENT TO GET MORE TIME.
Does not know how to use canvas or zoom. Quizzes will ruin your life. Her words she said herself that the answers could not be found in the book, you had to figure it out without them. Took half the class complaining to the department to get more time on quizzes and exams. Dont bother checking canvas, it will make you want to kms
DONT LISTEN TO ANYONE WHO SAYS SHES GOOD! She is disorganized and the quizzes will RUIN you. She sometimes even gives written responses but she will literally give you a 1/10 (quizzes are out of 20) if you don't write what she wants. CANVAS IS USELESS!! You legit have to calculate your own grade! Do not take her pleaseeeeeee.
The material is not hard itself but her quizzes legit killed me. There is 13 of them and they're out of 20. The mini exams are worth 40 points, there is no way to get ur grade up. Canvas doesn't calculate ur grade so it legit shows that I have a 50%. This class was too stressful for a lower division class.
This professor made me wish I wasn't a biology major anymore. This is an INTRO bio class, but she made quizzes/exams too difficult. It took her months to learn how to use Zoom, and half of my class emailed the department chair because this teacher was not understanding of our needs at all. She thinks 30 seconds is enough time for each question..
She had absolutely no handle on the class or curriculum. The curriculum changed three times throughout the semester: just showing up to the zoom and being forced to wait 60 minutes b4 taking the quizzes. For half the semester there were no lectures, just her explaining the structure of the class for weeks! her tests and quizzes so poorly worded
She's the worst professor I've had. Extremely disorganized. Her iPad didn't work for most of the semester, causing students to teach themselves when that is literally her job. Yet, she is not flexible when YOU have technology issues. Refers to tests as "mini quizzes" then gives you 30sec per question. The class was the biggest waste of time.
She has a clear syllabus that outlines the dates of the class. Lectures are very important, watch them all and write down everything she says, the quizzes are based on the things she said that are not on the slides. Taking in class notes is not enough to do good on the quizzes, make separate notes and you'll get an A
Not sure if a certain professor is rating herself on here... but anyways, PLEASE, PLEASE take someone else for this class. She is not at all understanding of student needs YET she can repeatedly have technical issues all semester. Reads off of slides. Frequent digressions. Her quizzes are lethal. I'm not sure if she realizes this is an intro course
The averages for all the quizzes were around a 12/20. She doesnt explain well and doesnt even lecture what is on the PowerPoint slides. She has no sympathy towards any technology problems you may have. Says the quizzes/tests are NOT open note but that doesnt even matter because NO information on the notes even helps with quizzes/tests/final.
Tests had a lot of questions with not a lot of time. A couple of us tried to tell her we need more time and the final ended up being 2x more questions with less time .-. Other than that she was nice and was willing to help if you were confused in her lecture.
If all the other classes are closed and you taker her, I wish you luck with this professor. Quizzes mostly takes up your grade and her time limit for them is not enough. Basically you are rushing to get it done as well as EXAMS! Her lectures sucked, I wished this part of biology was more interesting but sadly it wasn't. Also, No extra credit.
wants you to fail. extremely hard quiz every week. tests are timed. she literally sucks.
She isnt considerate of peoples feelings HER TEST SUCK !
At first, I was wary of taking her class because of the reviews, but I learned a lot and enjoyed it. An A is doable as long as you pay attention to lectures. Her quizzes and tests are geared to make sure you paid attention in class and took good notes on the material she talked about. She is open to questions and will explain anything.
Worst Teacher ever, quizzes are 10 questions with 10 minutes. Lectures are the complete opposites of the quizzed and based on what she says. If you take this class you have to already be a bio expert. Dont take unless you want to fail!!
My internet goes out while doing the assignment. Doesn't come back until 4am. I email her regarding it to ask if there was any way I could still do it and she just replied with "there will be times when we have tech issues, you still have opportunities to get your grade up in other assignments and quizzes." Also not enough time for test questions.
If I can give you any tips before taking this class, make sure to take notes on what shes actually saying during her lectures. Most of her quizzes consisted of material that she said, not the actual power points. Small amount of time for quizzes, she takes no excuses(even regarding WiFi problems). Before our final, she gave us 4 new topics to study
Take someone else PLEASE. She expects the students to memorize all the material covered in the slides and her lectures during quizzes and exams without considering the students' time especially if they have jobs or have other classes.
The material does not seem too hard, but she sounds very nervous and timid in her lecture recordings while presenting the material with a monotone. The biggest problem, however, is her examinations. She gives a minute per question that includes matching and "select all that apply" type questions. Would not recommend her unless it's your only choice
I personally really liked her. She gave very thorough and straightforward lectures, and she was just a nice professor overall. Exams are 100% lecture based, so I recommend taking really good notes as well as rewatching most lectures. Cell bio by nature is a very tough class, its a lot of info, so stay on track with her lectures and pay attention
Few things, its 2022 and around September 23rd few days prior to my first midterm Id like to say , I studied all the things that were needed for these chapter quizzes and yet NONE OF THINGS SHE HAS ON THE SLIDES IS RELEVANT TO THE QUIZ, HER WORDS ARE KEY NOT WHATEVER SHE HAS UP ON THE BOARD. Id say good luck to anyone who takes her youll need it
When I tell you this class is awful, it's AWFUL. I had to literally rewrite this because I wrote too much. In conclusion don't take this class.
TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR. This professor is the worst, my class just took their midterm 2 weeks ago and almost all of us are failing (out of 100 the class avg. was 47). She proceeded to gaslight the class the week after and claimed it was our own fault for not studying 6hours a week to prepare for the exam. She expects you to study 24hours each month
There is no assignments given, your grade will be determined based on your quizzes and tests. This course is lecture heavy!! She goes way too fast, I suggest taking another professor or having the ability to type fast on your laptop. She is the only professor I hope I never have to take so far.
She's said, *verbatim*, that everyone should be studying six hours a week, and if you're not doing that you're slacking. Tests are definitely designed for that level of work. If you're here for a GE, PICK ANOTHER PROF or maybe just another class. It's 2h/week of her speed-reading insanely in-depth Powerpoints with quizzes once a week + 2 midterms
DO NOT TAKE THIS AWFUL PROFESSOR. Honestly, she's the worst as she only grades quizzes only and they are taken at the end of the lecture. ONLY 15 MIN For the quiz and honestly an awful professor. SHE IS HORRIBLE AND you are quizzed on 10-15 questions that require you to review 90+ Slides. She hates criticism and you are neglected most of the time.
Took hematology - class was difficult but lab was fun. Grading is difficult and pop quizzes are given during lecture. Also, for the exams lab and lecture is given the same day which is a long day. She is a very nice professor, but grading is super hard. 4 essays, a couple of pop quizzes, and midterms and final for both lecture and lab
As long as you go to the lectures and take notes you should be good to go. She doesn't test on the readings but more on her lectures. Tests are most of your grade but she did provide some extra credit which helped. She knows what she is talking about, however is lecture heavy and goes by lectures fast.
Unclear, not lenient. Lectures just go on and on. Tests seem random. You will not be engaged.
All her exams and quizzes are based on everything she mentions in class. There aren't slides to really go back and review, instead, you need to sit and watch her hour-long recorded lectures to be able to take notes. There are a lot of quizzes and she barely gives time to do them, she only give one minute per question, which is insane.
Her quizzes are very short-timed. She'll add questions on her exam that are difficult and worth like 14 points. Her quizzes are meant to help your grade but they are difficult and you only have 1 minute per question. She talks so fast in class it's hard to take notes which isn't good since you need to write everything she says.
Don't take her. It takes me 4 hours to write notes at home because she talks so fast in class most the people in class go home and have to rewatch her recorded lectures. If you don't write down every single word she says then you will definitely miss a question on her exams. she doesn't write much on her slides she just talks nonstop in class.
You are only graded on two test and final and some quizzes that she gave every week. The way her test and quiz are structure is choose all or free response. In free response if you write something that is right and then you write something that is wrong then you get the whole question wrong.
Cell Bio is hard regardless. Lots of study. Her lecture are very monotone I agree, however very detailed which helped. She cares about her students and you can always schedule an appointment to ask questions. She uploads the lecture which is a huge plus. I recommend to re listen to them and do notes on everything she says then you will be fine
Cell Bio is tough but the professor cares. Her lectures are detailed, though monotonous - rewatching them is a must. Exams are tricky, with tight time limits. Unstuck AI helped me study efficiently.
Run from this professor!!!!! She wants you to fail!!!!! Her exams are insanely difficult, and her questions are meant for people to fail. Most of the people are study very hard but our class average is around 50% . She will ask you every single detail in a mechanism.
HEMATOLOGY COURSE: Grading is way too subjective. Don't take her unless you really have to. She is not a bad teacher and she is nice but grading is subjective and feels like she gives you points randomly, particularly on short answer questions (includes lab reports, written assessments, practical exams, and lecture exams).
AVOID AVOID! This is the most difficult class I have ever taken. YOU WILL NEED TO KNOW EVERY LITTLE detail. Even the ones that may seem insignificant. She is a very sweet person as an individual. BUT be prepared to study 10+ hours a week and rewatch lectures more than once. Even then she asks very random specific questions. Class Average is F!
Professor Kay is a really nice person- she makes an effort to accommodate students when needed and is really understanding. However, her lectures are long and boring and overly rely on slides. She only grades on weekly quizzes and exams so be prepared to bomb a couple of them if you don't memorize them over the weekend. Proceed with caution!
She is the kindest but harshest grader in the bio department. She let us turn in worksheets late for any reason. But her lab and lecture exams are very VERY DETAIL ORIENTED. She had to mega curve the final so half the class wouldn't fail! I was on edge the whole semester and cried everyday. plz avoid her if this class isnt mandatory for ur degree..
She is really nice and tries to help. If you don't go back to listen to the hour long lectures at least twice you won't do good. Notability really saved me in recording the lectures myself. Class average is an F I have done so much studying and still end up with fails on my exams. She writes her exams horribly.
Theres no homework but the only thing she grades are exams and quizzes. Shes a tough grader and offers no extra credit. She records her lectures and attendance is not mandatory but I would say just go to the class. I'm a bad test taker and I've tried so hard to study and I still get a bad grade. Shes a nice person but avoid her class if you can.
She's very nice and understanding. Can miss 1 exam and drops lowest 2 quizzes. 3 exams, 1 final exam, 10 quizzes. No homework. 1 extra credit assignment. Exams are all based on her lectures, not the slides she provides or textbook. Her exams don't make sense and her lectures never end. I do not recommend.
For a 101 class this is insanely difficult, something to note is the average scores on her exams are in the mid 40s, and there is no curve or extra credit offered. Be ready to sit and listen to a monotone voice for 75 minutes with no break or interruptions. 3 exams and 10 quizzes, all that goes into the grade book
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Quiz each week, 3 exams, 1 final. Very boring has a ai voice, students ask her questions and it's like she's confused and doesn't know the answer. Offers no study guide or review for exams. She reads off the screen until the last second class is done. Not helpful, sees no issue with over half the class failing. Terrible.
DONT TAKE HER !!! Wait another semester or choose a different class if she's your last option. You won't have time to do anything else trying to study and pass a 2 cred course. She never sounds like she knows what she's talking about. She explains basic concepts in the most complex way possible. She sets her quizzes and tests up for you to fail.
