all PR majors out there, cynthia king is THE one u'll all wanna take! if u haven't had any classes with her, just take one and u'll know what PR is all about!!
Dr. King was really unorganized! Our group project had no structure and she graded people down on them! Her tests are easy, lectures are boring, guests speakers were okay though. She knows her stuff but can't communicate it effectively!
Dr.King is horrible, she assigns homework then after it is graded she tells you what she wanted you to do in it. She is completely unorganized, and should not be teaching

THINK before taking her classes. She makes everything boring.
Run away as fast as you can.
King was never in her office. I tried many times to see her for advising but she was never ever there.
Not good.
Dr. King was a very enjoyable teacher. She was funny and interesting most of the time, it was kinda funny cuz she likes talking about the steel mill (her previeous job in PR). She isn't a very hard teacher, i got a B in the class. Overall i would recommend her.
Show up to every class, and guest speakers days, take good notes during lecture (or tape recorder), pay attention to how to put together a campaign plan, she offers more than the PR book ever could. Tests are a piece of cake, when you show up to every class, I got a B+ 88%. (group members are key)

Goofy, gawky, unorganized, doesn't explain well, wants you to spit back exactly what she says. So take notes. You won't learn a lot but you can get a decent grade.
Maybe the worst teacher on campus. She doesn't teach a lot of classes and she's never in her office.
She was my academic advisor, very un helpful!
It seems like she has alot of things going on and no time for anyone. She is very involved in many Comm programs and has cannot help or respond to people in a timely manner. She has favorites, like people involved in her Comm programs that traveled with
She has the real world experience that many other teachers seem to lack. Her class is interesting at times. Go to every class and take notes and you will do well. Her exams are not difficult as long as you have kept up with the class. I found her very helpful and friendly.
make an appointment, she keeps them. Who wants to be glued to their office anyway. If you're a COMM GRAD, she is the BOMB on the IRB protocol. Be serious in her class, and she'll take you serious. SHE ALWAYS ANSWERS EMAIL
She went months without answering some of our Emails. If she was ever in her office, she got a phone call and interupted to talk to her friends. I heard she never worked a day in a real PR firm. Another teacher told me that. She doesn't have any real experience. She has a busy social life and her job seems to get in the way.
very useful and practical class, and professor is willing to help students.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! RUN RUN RUN.
Dr. King was awsome. Class was fairly easy and grades tests on a curve. She gives extra credit for attending outside activities like IABC meetings. To get an A on the assignments you must put in the effort. There is a lot of material to cover in the class, I think she did it well and made it somewhat fun. I would take her again!
I had her for PR... and she is not bad at all I had a C+ and she gave me a B-... also shes pretty hot, I'd would mos def hit it if I had the chance. print the notes, go to class, and go to IABC meetings she will hook you up in class....
IGNORE ALL OTHER RATINGS! I am a 4.0 student so listen up - - Dr. King is Awesome. Gives xtra cred., helps with exams, curves all tests & throws out questions. She is always willing to help and is an amazing contact after you graduate for job opps. Get to know her and she is an amazing ally. Show up and you'll "Ace" it!
excellent professor, has a lot of real life experience. I learned a lot and will take another class of hers anytime.
She was really helpful when it comes to networking. Her exams are open book, so I suggest you read because you only have a limited amount of time. She does read just rhough the powerpoint, but she has some excercises and movies to watch so it's not that boring. Fun teacher...
Very unclear and goes on tangents on things that arent important. Too bad because a PR class could be pretty interesting. Does not give good directions on assignments. I would definitely not recommend this teacher. NO TIME FOR STUDENTS!
Does not make individual time for her students. Tries to make you think she is some famous PR person who has all kinds of connections that aren't really that helpful at all. (mostly previous students with grunt work low-end jobs) I would advise you to STEER CLEAR! You want to have a good PR class especially if it is your major
I would advice you to steer clear of Professor King. He is not helpful at all and does not care about her students. I am going to write a letter to the dean and ask why Professor King is on staff at Cal State Fullerton. She needs to go work for a PR firm and leave the teaching to someone who actually care about the education of the students. Take m
This class was a joke. i know as a communications major I needed this class but I would have taken someone else. Her class was not that hard but hard but she was hard to understand and was not in class half of the time to help you.
Dr. King was very unorganized. She lectured from her PowerPoint, but not helpful when asking questions. She prefaced the class saying this is her least favorite class to teach. Hard grader and micromanages the project for every last detail. I was told not to take her class, now I know why.
Proffesor King is hot and cold. Some days she'll be passionate and some days acts like she doesn't want be there. Tests/quizzes are online can be tricky but VERY easy when taken w/ a group. Talks too fast & reads directly from her slides sometimes. Can get frustrated at class sometimes so be prepared!
King treats you like how someone in the PR world would treat you. If you are sensitive or unorganize don't take her. If you really want to learn and actually get stuff out of the class like I did take her. Her test are hard, this is a class where you have to work in groups to pass this class two heads are better than one.
Professor King was awesome! I cannot believe she got such bad ratings! Her homework was easy but informative (an hour or less a week). She has you work in a group the whole semester, so pick wisely! I made some good friends, hardly tried, learned a lot and got a B. All you have to do is show up. I goofed off most of the time while she lectured
A lot of information and activities are completed daily. Go to class, pay attention to lectures, read the case studies in the chapters and you're chill. Group work almost every class and she grades as a group and individual so keep up. She offers extra credit every week, do it. It's pretty easy and helps boost your grade 3-4%.
King is a TERRIBLE professor. I did not listen to the warnings I had seen on this site and from other students. No one ever knows what she is talking about. She gives tests she doesn't know the answers to,and the questions are confusing. Homework is easy, and an easy paper, but you won't be prepared for PR. Take ANY professor but King.
DO NOT take Professor King. She is not helpful nor interesting. Her test are confusing!
She was the most unorganized professor I've ever had. She expects you to do work of a grad student and basically makes you teach yourself the material. Never knew what was required assignment-wise in her class because she just assumed we knew already. Very bad teacher.
Dr. King is a terrible teacher. She is very unorganized and is virtually useless for guidance. Her syllabus was exceptionally confusing, and she never gave any reference or explanation on how to do assignments. Her "style" is unpredictable and unacceptable by professional standards. Avoid taking her. Take Gaschen, as he is actually helpful.
What kind of teacher doesn't post a study guide 2 days before the exam?! You'll have to teach yourself if you want to get something out of this class. She doesn't explain assignments, tests are nothing like the study guide, but the hw is an easy A. Optional final, but it's RIGHT after your 3rd exam.
Doesn't care much about her students. If you actually want to learn about PR I suggest taking another teacher. If you're looking for a class you don't have to put much effort in and still pass, then take her, but be ready to sit through a grueling class. If it wasn't for her grading system I would've given her the lowest score possible.
Worst professor I've ever had, she doesn't teach you and claims "oh you just have to go out and learn it" . Lady , that's not what you put on the dang tests!!! all the tests are online and hard as balls. Her PPTS don't do anything but confuse you, but hell, I'll take the A- got C's on all tests 1 B-
TERRIBLE, just terrible. Professor King should reconsider a different occupation.
Literally one of the worst teachers I have taken. She is not clear in any of her directions, whether its an assignment or the lecture itself. SHe keeps saying "I cant teach you PR." I dont know if she realizes that this is a course titled Public Relations. Unfortunately she is unavoidable. Good Luck!
Currently sitting in her class, and I don't understand a single thing she talks about. Easy class because she just gives you credit for doing assignment, test online. I'm not learning anything. Currently doing hw for other classes.
She's a mess. VERY confusing, and is just a very negative person overall. She comes into the class already yelling and complaining about students "crying" to her at the end of the semester before anything has even happened. Super unorganized, rushed, and unapproachable. Steer clear.
I am an A student and tend to do very well in all my classes, but this class sucked! I never understood her and when I would go to her office hours it didn't even seem like she wanted students there. She would say one thing and then change her mind, her whole strategy of teaching was confusing. I warned you guys.
She's not a bad person but its really hard to understand her lectures and what she wants out of you. She should stick to research or working in the industry
King is probably the worst professor I have had! She is unorganized and scatter-brained. She always seems annoyed with students and then wonders why no one wants to approach her. TRUST me try to avoid her as a teacher as much as you can!
Easiest 400 level class ever. Quizzes are extra credit. As long as you attempt the HW you get an A. Attendance is sometimes mandatory. Midterm is online. Final is open note open book. Final project seems hard but she grades super easy on everything. I'm not an A student at all & I got an A. It might seem unorganized at times but it is honestly easy
Professor King, is a little unclear about what she wants from you, and is unorganized. Her quizzes are all extra credit and her midterm and final don't kill your grade if you bomb them. But the class can be very time consuming.
King is the EASIEST, yet most UNORGANIZED teacher I have taken at CSUF! Her midterm and final are all online (which means open book), but her homework assignments are unclear, and irrelevant to what we are learning in class. However, most of her work is either credit/no credit. SUPER EASY but did not learn much after completing the class.
King's 410 class was a lot of work, and all of the assignments were very unclear. She jumps around a lot in lecture and is difficult to follow. The lectures don't correspond to the assignments at all. The class is based around one big group project, so cross your fingers that you choose a good group or you're in trouble.
Terriblw. She is a horrible professor that is mot clear. She does not explain at all what she wants and expects you to figure it out yourself. All she does is ptalk a bunch of bs nonsense. I learned nothing and i am getting a decent rade. Good luck
TOUGH course. Work load is heavy and if you don't like working in teams then stay away from this class. She is a nice teacher, but is unclear and expects way too much. Do not take unless you have to.
This was the worst experience I have ever had. This professor is completely unclear with her expectations. This class should easily be worth 5 units, so make sure you don't have a full course load when you take it. Beware!!
This class isn't impossible with a good group. It can be overwhelming with a lot of the important assignments due on a weekly basis. There's a lot of hw, so organize yourself. You only need one book for your squad. Cool opportunity if you're into marketing. Most of her stuff is posted online anyway. Tests are pretty easy, & she gives extra credit!
All you need is a good group. I fortunately had a fantastic group and got A's on every single project that was assigned. She tends to be messy, but she had an assistant to help when she wasn't available to clear things up. I learned so much in this class and know that I will use this in the future. My only advice is TO GET A GOOD GROUP.
This was by far the worst Professor I have had as a college student. She is disorganized, unclear about expectations, changes her mind between the rough draft and final draft and can't give you a reason why. Had several 50 pg projects due during the semester (yes, more than 1). It's a joke this is mandatory. Should have been a min of 5 units.
She is very enthusiastic during lectures, but doesn't even finish a thought before spastically skipping to the next topic. Told the class "PR can't be taught! You have to go out and learn it!" and explained that it's not a glamorous field, but created more disinterest for the profession. Trick questions & spelling/grammatical errors on tests.
King was not 2.0 material at all. Along with being enthusiastic about PR, she never really went in depth on topics, which is no problem because her tests consist of what she covers. I assume that the low grading is for Comm. Law, so don't take that with her because I dont think you'll get a good grade with her style of teaching; take her for intro!
Dr. King calls this a history class, very lecture and reading heavy. She pulls questions for tests from both - 'according to your teacher in lecture...' makes it difficult to know how to take notes. She replies to emails promptly, but is somewhat difficult to follow along when lecturing. Tests are kind of tough but drops lowest score.
A lot of guest speakers, - impressive working professionals - VP of COmmunicatiosn for Disney came - study guides are on useful - questions from powerpoint lectures and text on tests - group project is easy, just start early (you have to attend PR event) - tons of extra credit - approachable - attendance is not mandatory
She is insanely unorganized and unclear on her expectations. She doesn't have a great handle on how the class should be run and it is 100% GROUP WORK so choose carefully and leave a lot of time in your schedule for group meetings.
So incredibly boring, and lectures the entire time. Even when she says youll get out early one day, you wont. She just talks on and on and is not entertaining at all. All lectures online but she takes attendance. Easy class but if you dont wanna be bored out of your mind then dont take her
These comments of Prof King were not accurate for me. When I first signed up for the course, I was a little skeptical because of the reviews. However, we are forgetting that its a 400 level course and this stuff is not easy. She is very open to helping everyone she can. This class is very rewarding if you put the work in and ask for help.
Professor King isn't the best professor at CSUF but she isn't the worst. Her class is fairly easy, 4 tests lowest is dropped, around 10 assignments throughout the entire semester which are pretty easy. 1 off-campus assignment which is lengthy. She lectures mainly off her slides which is boring but she does take attendance. Easy B gotta work for A
I honestly am baffled at professor King's low scores. I'm taking her class online and I personally really enjoy it. There are a lot of small quizzes and a weekly chapter test and discussion board. The work is tedious but it results in great test scores. The lectures are usually guest speakers and it's tons of fun especially if you're into PR!
I took Professor King's class this past fall semester, she was very caring and accommodating to her students. She knows that we're all going through it and always checked on us. Her lectures were interesting and informative because she brought in guest speakers that had to do with the lesson that week. I definitely would take a class from her again
I feel bad because Professor King really is a nice person and it's obvious she cares a lot. Weekly discussions, tests, and quizzes. The discussions are WAY too elaborate for one week. And she makes you do group work A LOT over zoom and most of the time, all the work falls onto 1 person. I respect her, but she needs to tone this class down a notch.
She was organized and always thoughtful and considerate of her students' opportunities to succeed. The workload is heavy, but it comes with the territory of the material. She was always excited about the craft of her subject.
I loved this course! There was a lot of theory involved but if you read through all the material you will be able to apply it in the assignments. She is always giving feedback on everything you turn in and creates a super engaging atmosphere. I would definitely recommend her.
Was failing first few weeks, have to reach out to her. Still grades down when she can see you are struggling. Checks the Canvas Activity, lots and lots of reading/watching. Self Checks Q&As are the end of mod. Q&As. Nice but lots of work, takes a ton of time. I suggest working ahead to not feel overwhelmed. Push yourself hard in beginning then easy
overwhelming amount of work, all discussions but prompt heavy, has to hold study sessions twice weekly because of how much confusing and tedious work it is. very confusing and intelligent readings, I am an A student but still very hard readings with no explanation from prof. don't take if you cannot dedicate hours to this course
Do not take this course if you liked to be stressed out, there are at least 3 quizzes each modules with a bigger quiz at the end made up of all the 3 other quizzes. The "discussions" are just extremely long homework assignments. It is so embarrassing not knowing something then having to post it in front of the whole class.
Tons and tons of work, hw is discussion post so you have to post in front of whole class even if you are confused then she responds then says who did the best that week. Holds 3 study sessions each week because of how much work. Tough grader you need to understand everything like oh girl it is okay to be confused sometimes
I was like 5th on the waitlist and now I know why so many people dropped the class affording a coveted spot on an online class. however, the amount of work for a 300 class is insane. so much reading for what? dropped the class after one week.
I don't wanna take this class ever again, it has lots of work compared to any upper division class i've ever taken in my life.
Reviews are not the same as the experience I've had with Ms. King. Although the semester hasn't fully ended yet, Ms. King is really understanding, and the workload isn't much. It's actually one of the classes I've learned something in, as Ms. King allows for learning in whatever interests you in mass media. She is dope, would recommend.
Recommend: 10/10 There's no final to her course, I don't understand why she has a bad rate. 1. It's not a lot of homework, just one discussion post a week, so one page or less, and 2 replies. 2. One small quiz a week that takes less than 20 minutes. 3. Nothing is due till the end, so just be on top of it.
i usually complain about how much work professors give, but this was not that much work it is just one discussion post every 2 weeks and the quiz that she gives all the answers to in the self checks the easiest classes i've taken also she ha no due dates and accepts late work for months after everyone giving a bad review is being super dramatic
By far, the WORST professor I have ever had at CSUF. If you are able to avoid her, I would do so at all costs. The way she teaches is extremely unorganized and erratic. She gives multiple assignments every single week that are tedious and busy work. No breaks or time off, and doesn't give clear instructions. Help yourself and DO NOT take her.
Idk if I would recommend this class or not. It's not bad, but it's not great. The weekly assignments are tedious for sure, but they're simple enough. I think the content itself can be overwhelming if you're not familiar with academic studies. Get ready to think critically :')
Quizzes with multiple tries, practice quizzes that help with the quizzes, no exams, and 3 "big" discussion posts. This class seems overwhelming at first, but I swear you get used to it once you figure out how to navigate the readings. Roughly 2-3 hours a week to do the work (videos, skim readings, quizzes). Not a bad class IMO
Honestly, she's not that bad. Weekly quizzes derived from the self-checks with some EnLive assignments, from time to time, plus 3 discussions. All is doable within 2 hours. She opens all the modules, so if you feel like going way ahead and completing the course 6 weeks early, like me, go right ahead. There is no late penalty either.
