made the subject interesting...not the easiest class but i definitely learned something...and she's not too hard on the eyes either...
she is a very nice helpful teacher. If you ask for extra credit she will come up with something for you.She is pretty easy you just have to attend class. Test are not cummulative. every three chapters.
she just likes going over famous masterpieces. she makes you keep a journal of what you read from the book. her test were open book test so they were aight. the only problem is that she makes the class very boring and she knows she puts people to sleep
This class was one of the most boring classes i have taken at rio hondo. she is a very boring teaher and was gret for putting people to sleep. i really dont recommend this teacher
It was ok
SHE IS THE WORSE TEACHER!SHE IS NOT RECCOMENDED TO ANYONE. SHE IS SO DAMN FREAK'N HARD TO PASS. SHE DOES NOT HOW TO EXPLAIN WELL AND HER TESTS ARE REALLY DIFFICULT. SHE EXPECTS MORE THAN YOU CAN MAKE. SHE WANTS US TO LEARN EVRY LITTLE THING THAT IS ON THE BOOK. DON'T TAKE HER AT ALL!!! MANY OF HER STUDENTS DON'T PASS HER CLASS AT ALL PICK SOME1ELSE
she is the worse teacher that anyone can take. she is very strict about everything and makes us learn so much. most of the peeople that register for her class don't pass her class. she expects soo much out of everyone in that class. she is very disorganized and goes into circles when explaining. she's not an easy person at the same time.
Very challenging class, but she knows art and is passionate about it. Sometimes boring, but the class is 3 hours long.
REALLY FUN CLASS. SHE LETS YOU USE NOTES AND TALK TO EACH OTHER DURING TEST. I LEARNED A LOT MORE THAT WAY. SHE IS REALLY FUNNY BUT SOMETIMES THE CLASS TOPIC IS BORING
She is really cool. She is not a snob, she's pretty laid-back. She gives a final and a midterm, but she prepares you for it. she shows many slides of art and helps you appreciate stuff like abstract art(i used to think it was stupid). Take her, she helps you a lot.
She's great. She is not strict at all. She helps you out on assignments as long as you ask her, and she tells you what to study for. What could be better? Plus, she does a lot of power point, which is pretty relaxing. oh yeah, and she's nice. probably the nicest female teacher on campus. There is a lot of mean ones out there
you have to go to class to pass. she is nice, but she is extremly particular in essay questions on tests, if you want to pass you have to go to class everytime and read the book everynight, not an easy class to pass.
I had no clue how to appreciate or analyze art before I took this class. Now my knowledge of art and art history has gone 180! She is a sweet and intelligent teacher. Cares deeply for her students and really makes sure they learn the material.
I took her for a summer class and she lectures for the entire time and only gives a 10 minute break. Attendance is a must in her class. You will fall behind if you don't show up to class. Her lectures are boring, but I would stay awake since she's easy on the eye lol. Her exams are hard and you need to study in order to have a shot to pass the test
She is a great teacher. I loved her class, its a joy to go! If you do the reading and speak up in class she really likes that. I would recommend her to anyone.
She comes to you as one who knows her stuff inside and out. Fair and very patient. One of the very few teachers who really love what she does - teaching. I took her ART 101 class summer 2008.
I enjoyed going to her class. You learn many things. Tests are easy since the answers to the questions are pretty obvious. You can use your notes for the tests(essay part) and she shows a part of the test to the class before you take it. If you miss a day then you do fall behind. I would recommend her to anyone.
Make sure you briefly read the sections from the syllibus it makes the class session so much easier. The tests are fair (3 tests), if you take good notes, your ok, I suggested a laptop made it easier for myself. Oh! her grading is EXTREMELY FAIR, guanteed. :D
Boring Class and Teacher hard to understand....she makes you go to LACMA museum and all the way to East L.A. for a mural research...waste of time and money for nothing. her grade is based on 4 tests and two out of campus assignments which were not graded fairly......no points for homework or extra credit.
Sorry but this class is very boring. Could not pay attention or understand where her lectures were going as she's very monotone, and not clear....Would highly recommend taking Professor Lynch instead.
She is a pretty cool teacher. A bit monotone at times but she made history of photography very interesting. Just go to class and communicate and you'll be okay
alright class
Easy class as long as you re-read all your notes you'll pass the class. There are 3 tests and 1 assignment, for the assignment you have to got to the Norton Simon Museum. She also shows 4 videos in class.
I personally took her and was the worst decision ever made. So DO NOT TAKE HER..she is boring and will sleep for every lecture. She is strict and doesnt help at all. She also expects too much from the students.
I personally took her and was the worst decision ever made. So DO NOT TAKE HER..she is boring and will sleep for every lecture. She is strict and doesnt help at all. She also expects too much from the students. She totally sucks!!!
I took her for history of photography, omg i had to get while i still could. She is VERY boring, i couldn't sit through one lecture without dosing off. Like others said..very monotone. I have no idea how anyone stayed in that class. i really wanted to stay and learn about the subject but she made something fun become horribly unintersting.I still w
I took Art106H with Lewis and I enjoyed it. She was very nice. The class required a lot of memorizing but it was interesting. I know a few people who think she is very boring and hate her but I liked her class. I learned a lot about art and I got an A.
This teacher is so freaking hard do not take the class. If you are even semi interested in this do not take it. I only recommended it for people that are fully interested. And she hardly uses the book during her lecture. It's mostly talking which does not keep you interested and gets boring most of the time. Take this class at your own risk.
Very cool, smart and funny teacher. Loved the class, loved her. She makes you work and doesn't put up with lame students. If you take the class seriously, she helps you alot.
Provides you with a clear cut instructional aide,ie notes, and guidelines. She does not expect students to memorize the entire bk, because the majority of the students are only taking it for a GED art course. Art history,I will say would be an EXTREMELY boring class if you're not intrigued by the subject in the least bit--choose another course dude
She is a great teacher, she is very clear and the tests are challeging if you didn't study the notes. Attendence is mandatory and she is real easy going person. I enjoyed this class alot.
Wow! She is ridiculous. I am taking her online and I swear she is the worst online prof. she expects like a 4 pg essay every week and she calls that a "short response!" DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE COURSE!! Not to mention NO use of the TWO books she requires. I HATE her class.
Shes is very dedicated and will try to help you if you are reasonable. She uses in class slides to get you familiar with the paintings so go to class.
Worst teacher DO NOT TAKE had her for art 106 in spring thought she couldnt be that bad like they said but she was, SUPER BORING all you do is look at art pictures all class and she lectures on them every day! in class test was ridiculous tests just really dumb expected to know everything worst teacher im just glad i PASSED and i have no idea how.
If you like boring, you'll like her. Go to class of you'll be dropped. She makes you go to the Getty villa.. Eww. And another thing, she's boring.
i gotta B in her class and honestly, i think it was due to effort. cuz after she ended class, i would start cussing and talking so much trash about how boring art is, she obviously heard. but shez really kool as a person, try to side track her and get her to talk about other stuff in class..
Worst instructor at Rio Hondo College. This class is not at a graduate level. The worst thing is she is the only instrutor teaching this class. Boring, no class lecture, lectures on picture slides.
One of the best teachers I have had. Really easying going and helpful. Will answer any questions you may have. Just show up to class and read the chapters assigned (not very many) and you will pass. 2 Tests/1 Final THAT YOU USE NOTES FOR, 1 museum visit project (easy), and a weekly open book pass/fail online test (10-15 multi-choice questions)
I dont know why people are giving her a bad wrap. She is VERY nice and cheerful, but if you are a lame student who is pretty much incapible of light college work / studying you shouldnt be in college. This is an easy class, just read the chapters assigned and show up to class.
Professor Lewis is AMAZING. She's so kind and really knows her stuff. She's very helpful and if you read the book and listen to lecture you'll get an A. I'm in her honors class so its difficult and a lot of reading but very interesting. Also she helps with everything. I lost all my notes and she sat with me for an hour to help me recreate them.
She is such a nice teacher! I know art history can be boring, but she really gives you EVERY opportunity to pass. If you cant pass this class, you may have a learning disability. Just saying.
awesome
Very hard class, interesting info but we took 3 test in the whole semester that seemed like they were finals! I mean 100 questions and a written part. Not a fair teacher i partnered up to do a hw assignment and my partner got a better grade than i did, how is that possible? We had the same answers. Take another teacher.
This class is not for any slackers out there, u know who you are. It's not the easiest class, but I loved it. Just follow the syllabus that she gives & u should be fine. Also make sure to read the book, it helps & make sure your good @ remembering general dates/locations/cultures. I think she's great & her class is a challenge, which is fun.
I'm a very hardworking student who doesn't slack off. This I by far the worst professor I have ever had. She expects a ton of work and reading for a three unit course. Also, she uses way too many articles and outside websites. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Worst decision EVER!!!
Professor Lewis is a real sweetheart! She is down to earth and very approachable. If you got a bad grade it's because you did not apply yourself. Of course there is reading, tests, etc. This is college after all. She teaches approaches the world of Art History with passion, she and sincerely enjoys what she does. Great learning experience!
I am currently taking this ¤tly in class.Do not take this class worst decision ever. She is nice(at times)but very boring. She's also a tad bit ridiculous. All she does is shows picture slides&it is upon yourself to take notes which is hard when she goes off topic a lot&when you can't take notes next to the picture to remember which one it is
Amazing professor! She is super passionate about art history and is just so enthusiastic during her lectures. She can get a little side tracked at times, but that just adds to the class experience. She is super sweet and helpful. If you don't pass her class its because you did try at all. She is the reason why i chose to become an Art History Major
She's really nice and likes to tell jokes. Very interesting and easy class. It's all slide shows of artwork and note taking, sometimes she shows videos. There's a couple tests and small easy assignments. Just remember to match the artwork to the culture/time and you'll ace your tests.
She is so annoying and so stupid! If you're just one minute late to class you are absent in her eyes. The class is ridiculously boring and she has the most annoying monotone voice. Do not take this class worst decision ever! I never had a worse teacher than this rotten old lady.
Very Interesting class for those who would like to know more about Ancient History. If you have no interested in Art please do us a favor and don't register for this class, other people would appreciate it more.
She is very nice and such a sweetheart . Pretty easy class just have to do the online work and study and make sure to use artstor since that's were she gets most of her picture for the tests from
She is very nice and such a sweetheart . Pretty easy class just have to do the online work and study
Mrs. Lewis was an awesome and nice teacher. I am no artist so I was a little skeptical on if I would like this class, but I LOVED IT. I might even just take her art 106 class because I enjoyed this one so much. Just go to class, take good notes, and you'll pass. Also, you have to take a museum trip one time during the semester. But it was fun.
Nice teacher I wouldn't recommend her if you don't like to read every night. The most difficult part was reading a 60 page chapter in one night. Overall a good teacher mystery slides were probably the hardest part of the exam.
Currently enrolled, she is very nice and sweet. I don't think she herself realizes the amount of work she assigns to students. Besides having to study for a test, she also has papers due the day of. I had studied my butt off for the first test and got a D . Do not take class if your not interested in art because this class is hard.
Great teacher. She is extremely sweet and understanding . Do your work , show up and you'll easily pass
who knew art history was so tough?! not I anyhow DON'T FALL BEHIND stay on track lots of material to cover, ask questions if you don't get it. TAKE NOTES of her lectures you can use them on part of exams they are very useful the study guides are you BBF'S. She will send out a specific study guide for exams on blackboard. She is a great teacher!
Ms. Lewis is an amazing teacher that made the class as bearable and interesting as she possibly could. Class is filled with lectures that are beneficial to the exam. Get the ArtStor account because it a must when doing the study guide. Be aware that it is boring at times, so get used to not procrastinating and work hard for that passing grade.
Toughborring professor! On top of attendance and grading. Takes points off 4 every single little thing even for not turning in test as soon as she says times up(like relax lady). The exams have 3 parts, multiple choice 65 questions, writing section n a critical thinking. I usually enjoy art history, but her class.i definitely do not recommend it!!
-Very Difficult Instructor on identifying what will be on the test. -Instructor expects student to know and be at instructors level of knowledge of Art even if your not into Art. -Very boring class. -Class was started to look like Math,History,Art because of the identifying of sculptures sizes, Cathedrals how were they constructed. ( and how)
great professor very passionate about her subject. expect "feild trips" to museums. at times subject may drag but prof. lewis does the best she can to make it interesting. thought art was boring but prof. lewis changed my mind exams are on the harder side but she gives plenty of study timeguides multiple classes with her. fair grader take notes!
This is the worst teacher you can ever get. She is boring, she does not help you prepare for any test and does not clarify her important dates. She also assigns about 10 hours of online work and if you do not meet the dead line you will automatically fail that online work. Expect to read a lot, do math and learn ridiculous facts that are unrelated
Boring long lectures and talks very fast. She posts a lot of reading on Revel at the last minute. If you miss 3 classes she'll drop you from her class. Her midterm and final are based on the voice thread. There are 65-100 questions on midterms/final plus short essay. In the end of the school year there is a museum assignment worth 100 points.
I can't say that she isn't helpful because she works hard for her students. However, her study guides are not helpful. Her study guide had me defining terms that weren't on the test, and things that only get a slight mention on the study guide had multiple detailed questions on her test. She loves art and teaching, but she made class a boring chore
Lectures online too long and too boring I had a hard time just listening. Talks too much I couldn't drop because it was too late to get other classes. Don't take this Professor but if you do buckle up for her class. Also too many boring sites to go to in addition to the textbook. Could not wait for the class to end. It was a nightmare!
its to hard. don't take it -_-
She is such a great teacher, she helps you when you need help. I miss understood the paper and I was doing really good in the class she let me redo it. She just wants the best and help you past. Her test aren't hard she lets you use notecards on the test do them and study. I got an A easy class
Prof. Lewis is one of the best art history professor's I've ever taken. In fact, taking many of her classes made me want to go into art history in the first place. Her assignments aren't too difficult, but her exams are challenging. I suggest making flashcards for each of the art workds she posts on the blackboard study guides.
I'm typically a very good student. I currently have a 3.8 and I'm in the middle of my last semester before transferring, but I had to take this class to finish off my Ge requirements. Absolutely boring lectures, assigns reading like this is a 5.0 unit class, and her tests are unnecessarily long. I honestly would never recommend this Prof. To anyone
Taking this class for a general ed requirement, she assigns tons of readings , the tests are heavy, she acts like this is the only class you're taking. Would not take her again.
I agree she overloads you with material, and its so boring! you have to sit there and listen to boring and read through material you will never use. Unless your majoring in this subject. Im just here to take this class to transfer and regret choosing her she's to much, she doesn't understand you've got other classes
Overloads u w/ work. I actually hated this class with all my being. I only took this class to fulfill an art credit and I felt like it got worse every week. U have to sign up for Voicethread and actually talk w/ your voice during a discussion bc she wants to feel "more connected". Just really tedious work but same schedule every week which is good.
Honestly didnt understand her lectures at all she doesnt really explain stuff and though grader. Personally I dont recommend her
Don't take her class unless you wanna be stuck with boring lectures that don't make sense. makes you sign up for different things and has you record your voice as part of discussion. her lectures don't make sense. literally useless class
I believe Professor Lewis is very passionate about art history. However, some aspects of the class made it less enjoyable. The long 50-60 slides on voice thread seemed like a chore. Some assignments were tedious, quizzes were easy. There was also a video project where you had to actually go to a place to take video. Take if you are majoring in it.
someone explained it best. the quiz will have detailed questions about something only slightly mentioned in the lecture. The readings are easy but some of the journals or articles seem to be unnecessary. her instructions seem clear , you follow them but still get an F because you didn't follow them? and you're not given CLEAR feedback. dont take
HORRIBLE!!! Do not recommend. I took this as an elective or fun class and I regret it. Lectures are so long 1hour + online, essay every week, many articles to read. Only good part is tests are not timed. Her voice is annoying and her lectures are very annoying.
People on here complaining about her as if they expected an easy A, this is a college course like any other. YES, she is passionate and gets offended if you show up to class unprepared because she provides everything you need to pass, that would be an insult to anybody. Instructions for discussion are CLEAR and she sticks to a routine each week.
I personally didn't hate this class, it is very lecture heavy & you do have a lot of readings but honestly she is not a tough grader all you have to do is write notes & pay attention to the lecture. I will say some of the discussions make me feel dumb just because I absolutely just do not get it no matter how much I read. But overall an okay class
Boring boring boring boring class. Inconsistent grading, always changing due dates and times so you're always left in confusion as to when assignments are actually due. Lectures are long and somewhat irrelevant to the course quizzes. I don't recommend this class.
Each module has a 1+ lecture, and a quiz with questions that were slightly mentioned so you'll waste more time having to go back and redo the whole lecture. there would be about 3 or more articles that most likely would end up being unnecessary plus an essay/discussion/video or research paper at the end of EACH module.
I wish I would have read her reviews before taking this class. Her lecture videos are long and boring, she has a very monotone voice which just drags the lecture on longer. The only reason I am finishing off this semester is because I don't want to mess up my GPA, otherwise I'd just shrug it off.
Bad time management. Runs out of time, had to review the video lecture on our own. Was having students google info multiple times. Attendance is mandatory even when you can't come due to emergencies. Would NOT recommend. Class is easy but you do most to everything on your own. BIG final assignment plus final exam and weekly quiz.
professor lewis was a very cool and nice person her lectures were really helpful and i enjoyed the class because she showed some really cool videos and it was very interesting at first i wasnt passing the class but then i began to speak up and asked for help in the ending of the fall semester professor lewis is one of my favorite teachers
I really enjoyed Professor Lewis' course. She did a great job at encouraging students to participate in the class discussion, and throughout the semester she was incredibly understanding and helpful. I highly recommend her, Thank you, Professor Lewis!
I enjoy her class very much and learned a lot. Professor Lewis will pay attention to participation and ask questions in class. This course require time, you will have to listen to the lectures and take good notes. If you work hard you will do fine just like in any other course. She is whiling to help you to succeed.
Only take if majoring. Voicethread lectures are interesting but be ready for sometimes 60+ slides, alongside various articles, videos, and the week's chapter reading. The assignments are a weekly 20-question quiz + a discussion/video/essay of some sort. No extra credit assignments, and very specific grading criteria. It easily gets tedious..
Nah, I love her class fr. Her lectures are so good and everything sounds interesting. The quiz is so easy that you can talk to people next to you to discuss and also go online to find the answers. She is just kinda strict about grading her writing assignments. But no worry, the quiz is automatic online grading and it is multiple choice.
she's a tough grader.
This class is very lecture-heavy and lots of reading to succeed in the class. This professor also isn't great at responding to emails and would often reply weeks and almost a month later. Quizzes and assignments are based on lectures but there's so much information that she covers that never gets discussed I often get confused.
Pretty good class if you're interested in the subject matter, otherwise not really for everyone. Keeps track of attendance, some "pop" quizzes but they're relatively easy if you take notes. Be ready for a group research project at the end.
The Lectures were too long and boring, the half of the questions on the quizzes can be found in the reading. She doesn't tell you what you did wrong on an assignment. Takes too long to to respond and upload assignments/lectures in the middle of the week instead of Monday which is stated in the syllabus. Only take the class if you have too
Lecture-heavy class with a lot of readings. Professor's grading can be inconsistent, but the material is manageable if you stay on top of it. Unstuck AI was a great study aid for quiz prep.
Lags on emails. Assignments reading heavy. If taken online must record responses for discussions. Will grade but not answer emails , smh 🤦🏽‍♂️
This Professor grades hard on her discussion assignments. She expects you to be an art instructor. Her quizzes are open book and not timed. For the final, you make a PowerPoint and on top of the final, she added another discussion due on the same day. This course requires a lot of time.
Professor Lewis is caring and makes sure you understand the lectures, despite her tough rep. Be prepared to write a lot, as lectures are heavy but doable. Quizzes and exams are open note with quiet peer help, so take strong notes. Attendance matters, but if you stay on top of things, you'll be fine. Great class if you put in the effort.
