She has no sense of humor. The class is boring
great class if you pay attention and do the work -- pretty easy, too, if you stay on top of it
talk about a snooze-fest. fairly easy class, 3 essays, no homework, 1 novel. seems bitter towards men. she crossed out Mrs. Linville on my paper and wrote in: MS. Linville. she kinda reminds me of a robot, and was not very pleasant to look at.
Horrible class, TONS of "busy work", had to write fifteen 300 word papers, two 1500 word papers, and one 2000 word research paper, not my idea of fun. Organization of class activities was also done in a strange manner
I have never had to write so much for one class. It is so much work and you can't have a life and take this class at the same time.
Boring! Almost slipped into a coma during class. Doesn't really look for quality of ideas or absorbtion of information in writing, more interested in MLA and structure. AKA easy class, waste of time.
She doens't teach you anything, she utilizes the method of "peer review", aka, I'm gonna sit here and sip on my pepsi while your dumb classmates make your essay less than presentable. She also make you do busy work like vocabulary with a SPECIFIC dictionary. Her class is easy, just prepare to be a robot and do the same everyday. I got an A, boring!
She is a good professor, if you have trouble you have to ask, she is not mean about it. She even sets days that class is cancelled so you can go to her office and ask questions, plus if you do go to her office and a even a simple question, you get ec!
anyone who is taking English 109M i do not recommend this teacher. she is not helpful. she tell us that we need work on essays but does clarify what are we need help with. the topics are stupid, she gives busy work that we don't even need in the class. she is a horrible teacher and i think she does not like teaching this class.
This class is easy but very annoying. There is a lot of busy work that accounts for 20% of your grade. 80% of the grade is based on 3 essays that are submitted as a portfolio. It is pretty simple
Nice professor, but boring class. There is so much writing involved, I wanted to shoot myself. Tough grader, but lets you revise you essays a million times til you get the grade you want. Easy A only if your willing to do the work
She is a great professor. The class is easy if your attendance is good. There is a lot of classwork and homework. It's important to not fall behind. There are about 10 essays that only have to be 500 words long. She is really helpful when it comes to writing a good paper. You can revise your papers until you're happy with your grade. Take her!
Very nice teacher. Gave good feedback. I learned from her. Work was relatively easy. Class was okay.
She is a boring teacher that makes you feel like an idiot when you ask her for help. She is always "Sick" when a major essay is due. Overall i would not advise anyone to take her class.
shes rude when you ask for help and uses peer review so she doesnt have to edit papers
If you care about her class, she'll care about your grade, simple. See her during office hours if you're really having trouble, ask a lot of questions, and most importantly don't procrastinate!
She's not as bad as I thought she was when I first attended her class. Very simple: complete all the assignments and do well on the essays. As long as you put in the work and visit her office hours, it should be an easy A.
Though the class assignments were really hard, Prof. Linville is so helpful to her students. Always go to her office hours. It really helped me a lot.Writing is not easy but she provides helpful comments and tips. Trust me. Got an easy A.
She might come off a little rude sometimes but is very helpful. A lot of peer reviews for essays but she is willing to help if you come to her office hours. she grades papers pretty easy. assignments are always clearly instructed.
Teacher gives alot of work, the amount i found a little inconsiderate of students that work full time and go to school full time. If you do take this class i highly suggest only part time school for the semester
This teacher was very easy i started off with a C- and got to an A very easy she's very helpful. Can be a little confusing on what she wants overall good teacher. I finished her class two weeks early with no final.
This is a portfolio class, very EASY! Love the professor, she allows her students to finish course early! As long as you do 70% of the assignments and regularly check with her to get a grade on your portfolio assignments, you will do well in the class. You pretty much can get any grade that you want in the class. I got an A, and it was an easy A!!
Definitely a good professor, I absolutely reccomend her. She misses a lot of days that's the only downfall. If you need help she will help you. She does rely a lot on peer reviews however. If you put forth the effort and do your work and at least try it should be pretty easy to pass her class. Overall, good professor.
Prof. Linville is an extremely one of the best professor's that I've had. She is very clear on what she expects from her students. She also is very understanding and helps her students when they have questions. Easy to edit your work, and change your grade to an A.
AWESOME TEACHER! NO TESTS/QUIZES. PORTFOLIO CLASS WITH UNLIMITED CHANCES TO REVISE ESSAYS. I FINISHED THE CLASS ALMOST A MONTH EARLY WITH AN A BECAUSE I COMPLETED MY PORTFOLIO. EASY A! TAKE HER CLASS, SHE IS EASY, VERY NICE, AND A GREAT PROFESSOR!
Best teacher ever!!!! Class was simple and easy. Every thing was online. Not that much reading to do. Course work is light. She allows students to revise their papers which is awesome! Didnt have to write one of the major papers. Have to have 3000 words in portfolio consisting of 2 major papers and a letter. Really EASY!!!!NO FINAL!!!!
Easy class!
Great class! Professor Linville is by far the best teacher I have had at Sac State. She is extremely clear on her expectations and she's super understanding. She allows you to keep editing your papers until you're satisfied with the grade.
She doesn't like to answer to many questions; better to ask a classmate first! Lots of in class assignments. There are peer reviews on every major assignment. Not the easiest A, if your not into politics, which most of the papers are based off of. Good part, she cancels class for her conferences w/ students-gives you more time to work on papers!
awful teacher. she has conferences and will look at your paper and only give you feed back on part of it. the rest of your mistakes you have to find on your own. she is bad at returning emails and she doesn't like to go over your paper or be clear about certain things. avoid this class if possible if you want to learn some English.
Not a good professor. She doesn't quite understand good writing and will dock you significantly if she doesn't like you. A lot of useless grammar activities that don't really count for anything
The best teacher ever in Sac State.
Linville is okay. Pretty hard, you have to pay attention real well to get a good grade and not fall behind on classwork. Portfolio based class. Just get a good grade on that and do 70% of work and you'll be fine. ALOT OF WORK though. I had about 20 windows up all the time just for her class. but Engl 20 is gonna be hard regardless.
This class is a portfolio based class, so all that is required of you is to get 70% of the assignments done, pick your papers for the portfolio & that's your grade. There were a total of 3 short papers and 3 long papers. All of the papers were super easy, mostly bc they are based on your opinion. You can skip class up to 5 times. Easy A class!
I really liked Professor Linville. She tells you exactly what she wants and it's an easy A if you keep up with everything in your notebook. The essays are also pretty simple and you can choose which ones you want to submit in the portfolio for the final grade.
If you want to be talked to like you are a child and want to be talked to like you're stupid then this is the class for you! If she doesn't like your essay she will stop reading it and she doesn't give good feed back on how to revise your essay. You do a lot of useless busy work and I feel like I haven't learned much in this class.
Easy A. This is a portfolio class that is graded at the end of the semester. Your essays in the portfolio are each about 1000 words and they can be re-graded as many times as you want, as long as you go to her office hours. Sometime she can get a little angry, but if you do your work in class you won't have a problem. She is a very easy grader
She is amazing! No midterm or final. 4 essays with multiple opportunities to revise throughout the semester.
Easy class. She gives you the chance to revise your essays as many times as you want to get a better grade on it. The group project was difficult though!
Easiest A I have ever received! She is really straight forward and lets you leave early when she's done with her lectures. Can be rude and bitter at times but its worth it if you just listen and follow the portfolio guidelines.
I would take her again. Gives extremely good feedback. English is and will probably be my worst subject. I struggled with English all my high school years and I passed this class with an A. You can miss a few classes and still pass like I did. If I can do it, you can do it!! Good Luck.
Easily the worst teacher I've ever had. Talks down to students as if they are peasants. She likes to make herself seem like she is open to discuss questions but continuously rejects questions. It is mandatory to write in her writing style and leaves very little room for students to express there writing capabilities. Would not recommend her at all
She talks to you like you're stupid, but she does allow you to revise your essay as many times as you need to. There is a group essay which sucks because we all have different schedules. If you participate, do homework, and show up she'll you and additional + to your final grade for each category which can bring your final grade up a whole letter.
She is an awesome professor! I dont know why people say she talks down on students. NOT TRUE! Her feedbacks are really helpful and her class is easy. As for the group projects, there was only one i dont know why students are complaining. lol
She does not talk to students like they are stupid she is actually really sweet. I dont knw what makes students think that about her . :/ just make sure you come to class and do all your workbook pages and itll raise your grade up by a letter. i would recommend her class and her assignments are very straight forward!
I loved this class. Prof Linville really knows how to help you improve on your writing. She doesn't talk to you like your stupid. Attendance is a MUST it can save your grade at the end. She only has three major assignments, and they are fairly easy. Her class is easy if you are willing to put in the work.
This was an easy pass class. I don't really care for her as a professor but it's hard not to pass. She is very precise with what she expects, she allows for revisions on everything, and it is mandatory to attend conferences so you always know exactly what you need to change for an A.
Professor Linville is a very great professor. You will have a few essays, but you can keep re-writing it for a re-grade throughout the semester. 1 novel to read, but very interesting. She sets up 2 conferences that allow you to personally talk to her and allow her to do any re-grading before your FINAL PORTFOLIO is due. Overall, very easy class!
This class is not hard. You write 3 essays, one group essay and some in class assignments to put into your portfolio. She gives you a chance to revise them to get a better grade. Was an easy A if you ask me. Only negative thing is she has a bit of an attitude, you can tell she does not mean it, but it comes off as kind of rude sometimes.
If you're willing to put up with her attitude and snobby comments then I would recommend this class. For the most part the class is pretty easy but DO NOT MISS CLASS attendance is mandatory! The book is very necessary. If you ask questions, or guess the wrong answer, she will most likely nake a rude comment and then not answer your question.
This class was pretty easy. There are no grades through the semester, just a final portfolio. There is one group project, three in class essays, three event critiques, and an individual project. You get to revise these as many times as necessary and pick three to put in the portfolio. She will sit with you one on one to revise your papers.
If writing comes naturally to you this class will be a piece of cake. She is very clear about what she wants. You'll have to go to her office hours to get a grade on a paper. Your semester grade is the final portfolio + attendance + workbook. She can be snarky and passive aggressive at times. Read the book carefully & take good notes, and SHOW UP!
very rude. makes you feel bad if you get the wrong answer. if very sarcastic. honestly, horrible teacher. but she lets you rough draft your papers multiple times and it is a very easy class. she'll work with you if you show effort. if you're willing to put up with her attitude, easy A. attendance mandatory.
Professor Linville sometimes has an attitude.. can come off as weird and creepy. Gives stamps to students like they're in kindergarten. She makes it mandatory for you to attend 3 events related to the things you're learning (which are all very late and it makes it very hard for students who can't stay out late). Unnecessary work has to be done.
This professor is great! Everyone says she has an attitude but I don't think so, she's super nice. She's a professor that actually cares. You can have essays regraded multiple times. No tests just the final portfolio which consists of cover letter (only thing she won't look over), 1 in class essay, 1 event critique, and one project. Very precise!
Expects your essays to me extremely grammatically correct, but allows you to revise your essays as many times as you want til you get the grade you want. No final, but you are required to turn in a final portfolio of 3 of the essays you've written throughout the semester. If you really want an easy A, I suggest taking Professor Linville.
In this class your grade is based off attendance + workbook score (where you complete many activities in) + portfolio. This professor makes the requirements for each assignment very clear. She grades your paper right in front of you during office hours or conferences which is helpful. She grades tough & is very sarcastic so be prepared.
She has an attitude, is snobby and sarcastic. But if you don't mind that then she is a good teacher. There is no final, but there will be a portfolio due at the end of the semester. There is a text needed for her class, and a novel she will pick. Along with that a workbook for her class. (you will do everything in there). Pretty much an Easy A tho.
Professor Linville is sweet. My only complaints were the event critiques, that you had to be in class to get a stamp for credit, and that you can hardly make up assignments. There is one big group (or solo) project and a portfolio due at the end of the semester consisting of 3-4 essays. She is usually available outside of class as well.
Show up to class and make sure to do the homework because she stamps the assignments. She makes things really easy to access with her online calendar. She can be tough but overall the class work is not too difficult. If you hate English this is probably the professor you should go with.
Professor is great at giving you feedbacks. we read a book and do some writing activites in a workbook that prepares for the portfolio. She has optional consultations which i recommend you to go everytime. other than that, work on your grammar and improve your writing skills. you will be good with this class.
Her class is not hard. Simply show up and most of the class assignments are on a workbook. The class consists of 2 group projects and 2 individually written assignments that you need to turn in for your final, which is a portfolio. No tests or nothing hard. If your a decent writer then this class shouldn't be hard at all. She's a nice lady.
Graded by a workbook & final portfolio. Attendance is mandatory to get a stamp for the homework in the workbook! There is also a group project done in this class which is really easy. Lastly, no final.. the final portfolio consists of 4 papers. She grades & lets you revise your papers for an A during her optional conferences. Respectful & helping
This class was my easiest class, the work is not hard but she gives a lot which seems like busy work. You have to attend 3 events, w multiple class essays. She gives you as many tries to fix your grade until you are happy with it. The reading and workbooks are required for class discussions & essays. She takes attendance that counts to your grade.
Amazing teacher, she gives us good amount of work to do but everything was very easy. She is so sweet and nice !! I would 100% recommend taking her !!! First teacher to actually teach help me improve my writing. Loved her.
AMAZING! She is such a good professor and made me enjoy going to class. The work load is heavy but super easy. As long as you go to class and do your work you will end with an A. She is sweet and understanding. I would take her class again!
One of the best teachers I have ever had, she makes it incredibly easy for you to get an A in the class, if you are willing to put in at least like 70% effort. 2 or fewer unexcused absences get you a grade bump, and 90% or higher on the workbook at the end gets you another. You can get a B+ as ur final grade(portfolio grade) and get up to an A.
PAY ATTENTION TO THE SYLLABUS THAT IS EXPLAINED ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS! This is crucial. She does not change the format of her grading and is very concrete. You just have to put in the work to do all the papers, which she gives you enough time to do. Her calendar is well organized, follow that and you have an A in class.
My experience has been terrible. She doesnt use the regular campus website and instead has her own website which is extremely hard to follow. THE WORST PART ABOUT HER CLASS IS YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR GRADE IS. Theres no pints to follow so you dont know your grade. She also isnt open to students coming to her with clarifying questions.
Professor Linville was good at her job, teaching. I learned a lot this semester. I will say, this class is easy as long as you do your work. The only reason I put a lower rating is because she doesnt use canvas and makes you use her website and your own workbook to track assignments and grades, very inconvenient and hard to stay organized
Personally I really enjoyed taking this class. It was completely online this semester, so obviously her class was taught much differently than how the previous reviews paint it out to be. She makes it very easy to be successful in this class. I think it would be hard to not earn a passing grade. She gives lots of EC & great feedback :)
Recommend taking her class, she gives a lot of opportunities to revise your work and offers extra credit. She is an easy grader and will give really good feedback. There is an assignment every day though.
You get over 100 points worth of extra credit opportunities! This was my favorite English class in college, we read an amazing novel called The Lightest Object in The Universe. We had 3 total essays, one based on comparing your experience with the characters. While you have daily discussion posts, they are easy and take 20-30 minutes. TAKE THIS!
The professors I've met in the English department are caring, respectful, nice, and good to their students. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Linville. Her comments and the way she talks to students are rude and snobby. I am not sure why Sac State hired her. If you're able to tolerate her rudeness and attitude, go ahead.
Linville's class isn't hard. She gives good feedback and if you go to her office hours she's more than willing to help you out and go over your papers. There is homework every day; which is mostly discussion posts. However, the discussion posts are there to help you with the essays. Just do your work and you'll be fine. There is extra credit too.
Took her asynch course last semester, she is nice and clear on what she wants. Discussions everyday and you had to reply to two students. There was alot of reading, but its to be expected in an english course. I think she is a fair grader, just do your work on time, submit it for points, and you will be fine.
Lots of reading and responses to do every week but turn them in on time & you should be okay. She's accessible outside of class, gives great feedback and is very clear on instructions. She provides tons of resources and guides that will help improve your writing. Allows essay revisions up until finals week. Can find txtbk & novel for free online
She gives out too much filler work (work everyday mon-thurs), especially when there is a big project. She's very specific.
There were many assignments given but they didn't require more than 15 minutes mostly besides the papers. There are 3 papers and no exams.
Gives out a lot of homework but the assignments for the whole semester are open to doing ahead of time. Has some lectures to watch and some reading in textbooks but they're generally really short.
Professor Linville is a wonderful professor, I really enjoyed being in her ENGL 5 class. She does a fantastic job of helping students understand the course material. I like that the daily discussion posts help break down the large projects into small pieces. The discussions guide students through the whole process step by step. Highly recommend!
Professor Linville formatted the semester's assignments and due dates from the start of class. She was clear with what she wanted in both her daily HW and essay writing assignments. She had an ego and sharp tongue but gives good feedback and I learned A LOT from her class. Just do the homework with the ex credit and you'll be fine.
Her assignments are planned the entire semester, very organized professor. Good at communicating. Only thing that was annoying was that there was 1-2 discussion posts due everyday, but you could finish it within 5-10 minutes. Very easy class! She asks you to buy the textbook, but I didn't use it the entire semester.
(online and asynchronous) 1-2 discussion posts due every weekday. There are two essays, 1 fact sheet, 1 cover letter, 1 ePortfolio. She provides detailed feedback on essays. She also provides a lot of extra credit which you can complete anytime before the last day of instruction. Overall easy class, just a lot of homework.
Read required book + 3-4 weekly assignments + 3 essays + lots of extra credit. Prof is very clear on the grading of assignments. There were a lot of them; about 5 points per post discussion. They add up so try to do them all. Gives good feedback n u can revise your essay for better grade! The work felt more like busy work but it is wat it is.
most annoying professor. She has so many useless assignments that don't matter and anyone that has taken elementary English could figure out how to do her assignments. This class wastes my time and her topics for essays are so boring and hard to meet the word length requirements. How can you be an author and come up with the driest essay topics?
This professor has A LOT of assignments and even mentions that you have to drop some things to dedicate your time to this class. It's usually small assignments helping you build each paper but you will have 4-6 assignments per week usually due on M, W, F. There is A LOT of extra credit though. All of her instructions are clear and she's accessible.
I took this class fully asynchronous and I loved it. As long as you fulfill all paper requirements and write well, you will do good. I received 100% on all my papers. Shes also very kind. Required textbook but I got it from kindle Amazon so not expensive. I recommend!!
A lot of assignments, but the instructions were clear and I had ease completing them all on time. This class is great to help you prepare for your WPJ if you're a freshman or sophomore! Would recommend this class :)
Asynchronous basically. LOTS of little assignments weekly (class/group discussions, quizzes, assignments), preparing for papers. Accepts late work. Offers lots of extra credit. Very accessible outside of class. Easy grader. Papers were easy, not graded harshly. Provides feedback for papers only. Two papers, one short bio, one "poster".
I took Engl109W with Dr. Linville. Her class was straightforward and I felt that she was a fair grader. There were a lot of little assignments each week but they were pretty easy. She grades quickly and replies to emails quickly. I would take her again if I needed another writing class.
Loads of assignments every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sundays. A lot of papers, group discussions and quizzes. Easy class if you keep up with the work and do everything according to the instructions. Has a lot of extra credit assignments worth a lot of points that actually help your grade. Leaves confusing feedback at times, not a lot on how to improve
Professor Linville's ENG20 class is a mixed bag. Lots of weekly assignments, but the grading is lenient. The textbook is used, but you can find it affordably. For study prep, unstuckstudy and other tools can be super helpful alongside the material.
She is the best English teacher I have had so far. Take her class if you want an easy A.
She's a good and easy professor. Attendance is optional but everything is online and she grades with a point system. Her work is very easy, however, it's so tedious; there are so many small assignments that she assigns. 4 major papers, discussion boards, quizzes, and 250 points extra credit. Easy class.
Professor Linville's class is very manageable. There are a lot of writing assignments, but they're easy and clearly explained. She responds quickly to emails, is flexible, and even lets you submit your portfolio early if you finish the major papers. Great, supportive class.
