This teacher adds life to a boring subject
for such a boring and difficult subject she taught well and I would recommend her to any student who is required to take any math she teaches.

Mrs. McGinnis is really nice and VERY PERKY (that helped at such an early time :OP) She also has some very good teaching methods. She loves to work in groups, and has lots of example for you to do,
Ms. McGinnis is the best math teacher at OWCC, maybe the best mathe teacher there is. If you don't understand a concept, she always has another way to present the concept so that you do get it.
Great Teacher, very personable
Too fast and unclear, not really taking time to teach a new subject. Frivolous activities and projects. Unfocused. But she is nice and loves to laugh. Somewhat helpful.
For a math dummie like me, she was the best math teacher I have ever had. She is very nice, explains well and is willing the help. Lots of work but it pays off. I ended up with an A, and made a 100% on the final!!!I recommend her for any math class!!

I dreaded coming to class because everything was sooo disorganized. Yeah, there's a lot of group "projects" and writing silly data on the vap board, but Ms. McGinnis has a hard time explaining things in a coherent, linear fashion for students t
Don't take her class!!! Avoid her like the plague, if I had a dime for every time I asked her how to work a problem and she said " don't worry about it just stick it in your caculator that's what you paid a hundred dollars for" I wouldn't have t
Proves the adage that there's a big difference between knowing and teaching. Statistics shouldn't be this confusing...
I enjoyed this class. I always had B's in math classes in highschool, but I had A's in both her classes, well worth the time. If you think statistics will be hard, take it with her!!!
Never thought I could enjoy a math class of any type, but really enjoyed her statistics class. Great teaching methods, used things you could relate to in real life. Fun classroom activities and some writing assignments which were great for those of us with math phobias. All around great instructor!
I took the class thinking it would be an easier level class after completing calc 1 with an A, but because she was so disorganized and unclear i am having a hard time. She definately knows the material but has no concept of teaching. If you want to make an easy class hard i recommend you take her.
Great Teacher for those who want to learn. The children should stay home.
Great Teacher
I really enjoyed this class. She has a way of explaining things that non math people can understand. If someone doesn't like her teaching its because they are lazy. She makes you work but its worth it.
I really enjoyed her interaction with students and the course. And I hate math but now I kinda of like it
I liked the class, but McGinnis does not make things clear. She just assumes you know. Basically I learned on my own..
Very nice lady, not the best teacher, however, the class is a lot of fun, she is very interactive, and makes the class enjoyable.
Very confusing!!! I couldn't stand that lady--she was just everywhere and no one was with her. I am taking Math for Liberal Arts again this semester...fun.
I was lucky that I took Statistics in high school. Otherwise I would have been completely lost. She doesn't explain all too well, so you have to read a lot on your own. Some questions on tests came out of nowhere because she never lectured on them. A nice teacher, but wasn't too clear in class.
Do not take her unless you want to teach yourself... She rambles on about things, not very clear about anything. My class didn't even get a syllabis. Not veruy helpful when you need things explained.
Ms. McGinnis' classes were ridiculous! She rambles about stupid stuff and barely teaches the material. Her tests weren't what I would call hard, but she was too busy assigning stuff that had nothing to do with the test material. I was expecting to learn something new in her class, boy, was I disappointed.
Ms. McGinnis is an awesome lady. She does have a unique method of teaching, and it is fair to say that she expects you to review the material before class, but she was ALWAYS willing to help both in class, and during her office hours. She bent over backwards to make I sure I understood every concept everytime I presented a question. She was good.
Excellent teacher! Ms. McGinnis makes learning math so much fun and gives such interesting assignments.
As you'll see in other reviews, her class is easy. Her tests are not very hard. But dont take her if you plan on learning math, only take her if you already know your math and just need to get a requirement out of the way. You can know a subject, and then listen to her and actually be confused in the end. Also gets defensive and snaps at students.
OH MY GOD RUNN!! She sounds liek a little kid when she talks and her lessons are like a four year old made them! Yeah, she's really nice and can be very helpfull, but she sucks a big one in the math area yo! I'm good at math and am practically failing! GO FOR SOMEONE SMARTER!!
horrible
this is a on-line math class. she was the worst instructor i ever came across. gave out way to much homework, to include writing english style papers for math! don't take her! finsd somebody else.
Just like Christmas: FRUITCAKE! FRUITCAKE! FRUITCAKE!
This teacher is insane and I warn anyone against taking her classes. You have been fairly warned against her.
This teacher is nice, but she has no idea how to teach. She isn't clear about how she grades and what needs to be turned in, and she assigns a ridiculous amount of work. I took this as a blended class, expecting to be able to have questions answered, but she doesn't seem to know the answer when anyone in class has a question.
Great Instructor!!! Its refreshing to have a teacher present math in a fun and interesting way. There's lots of work to do so don't expect easy.
Love this instructor! Wish I had taken her the first time I took statistics!
What a nutbag! The class is very easy because most of the material is from high school! But i'm getting screwed because she changed the deadline from the 12 of december to the 30 of nov and ceased to tell me untill the 28th! She is unorganized, does't teach well, forgets assignments you have handed in, leaves in the middle of class. BAD TEACHER
I am A/B student, I do pretty well with a good teacher. Mrs. Mcginnis is a very nice teacher, and she definetly knows the material; however, she just doesn't know how to teach the class. Please, do yourself a favor and find a better teacher. You will be very glad you did!!
She is a VERY easy teacher. Her grading is weird and she doesn't pay attention to much of anything. I didn't question every paper she returned. However the ones I did, she upped the grade easily, no questions asked. Attendance- what's that? She called role maybe 5 classes. If you need an easy Math, take her. No lectures, all group work!
this woman is spacey & a little nutso- unorganized & random. However, easy to get by & pass the class without knowing ANYTHING thanks to group work!
Be prepared to teach yourself. She will give you a brief lesson, do your hw and be prepared with ???, or you'll be lost. Make nice nice with the class 4 group tests and study sessions, helped me tremendously. Use calculator manuel (comes w/ book) and card in the back of the book w/ all the formulas. W/ these u'll ace the class.
Very helpful. I made the best grades in my life in any math subject because she is a great teacher-unlike my HS teachers.
Math for Liberal Arts. Kill yourself. She talks on helium. I didn't know I was enrolled in Alvin and the Chipmunks go to preschool. The class is easy and a waste of time. She takes off five points if you miss one class. She takes herself and the class way too seriously though, which made teaching yourself the material a little bit difficult.
HORRIBLE. She is unclear about everything and when you ask her a question, IF she writes you back it's a response that doesn't even answer you. Very spacey. We went the entire term without any grades and didn't know where we stood. When I asked for my mid-term grade for the 3rd time she said to bring a copy of it to the final. Very unorganized.
USELESS! She knows the subject, but she has NO IDEA how to teach it. My whole class ended up in the library trying to learn it together. She was completely unorganized and you had no idea of how you were doing in the class. She'll get mad if you don't ask questions, but she'll humiliate you if you do. If you have to take stats, FIND SOMEONE ELSE!
CRAZY! She uses a student centered method of teaching and if you have a question, don't bother asking her because she will tell you you should already know it! Take someone else! She talks like she's on helium!
If you dont believe the other negitive comments, PLEASE believe me. This is the worst teacher I've had in my LIFE! [and thats bad!]. Once again, she doesn't answer questions, tells you that you can not see your grade until they are submitted, and doesn't return e-mails. Dont make her laugh either...its enough it withdrawl right then and there!!
keeping with the crowd--AWFUL!! i took her for lib arts I and got a D-then took it with hanson and got an A! i am just really upset that she is the only person who teaches Lib Arts II! i mean i am not good at math-but i am not that bad!! i have taken it with her twice now and still haven't passed. she needs to retire!
This is honestly the most frustrating teacher I've ever had. I wish I had taken Pearsal. McGinnis doesn't explain anything and is only here because of her tenur, I think. She laughs at our questions and doesn't explain anything. She assigns homework and quizes due on sections before we cover them. And I have no idea what my grade is. AVOID HER!!!!!
Excellent
Okay people... This is the third class I have taken with Ms. McGinnis... I took Beginning Algebra, Math for Lib I & II with her. I am not good at math at all but if you TRY in this class and treat the teacher with RESPECT (which a lot of students DONT DO) you will pass!! She WILL HELP YOU AND EXPLAIN things but you do have to earn your grade!
She tells you to do it all on your calculator but she won't tell you how if you forget. Her answers to math questions don't actually involve math.
GOD! this lady needs gets me going. i have tried taking classes with her multiple times and just can't handle her. i think her homework is absurd! this is math class honey...not english. she made us write numerous papers and do "activities" that honestly have nothing to do with what we NEED to learn. get a new job!
Very old, archaic teacher. I took her online course for Math for Liberal Arts I. Requires you to submit assignments to Turnitin.com AND turn in a hard copy? This is the new millennium. Avoid her like the plague, very hard course and the teacher is completely uninvolved. Emails were met with near hostility by her. TAKE PEARSALL! NEVER MCGINNIS!
Excellent instructor. Hands on instructional methods. Very helpful. Would highly recommend.
I like her on a personal level, but some of her teaching methods leave much to be desired. I had no idea that Math for Liberal Arts would involve writing research papers, or cutting & pasting shapes like a kindergartner. Once I adjusted my expectations for the class, I was fine--but if you like formulas and common sense, take Dr. Mary Henderson!
Math for Liberal Arts 1. I would not recommend anyone to her. She had us cutting up papers and gluing them on to another sheet for our homework. I looked up online for help (because even the math labs don't know what she is talking about) and it was apparently homework for 6th graders. Stay AWAY!!
I read several horrible reviews of this professor before taking her class and was terrified. However, not only did I wind up taking the class still-- but I enjoyed it and found her teaching techniques very helpful. I have a whole new respect for mathematics and am taking her again next semester!
Great Instructor! I love her teaching methods. She uses a hands on teaching method that gets us involved in the classroom. You really feel like you've accomplished something. Its not you typical math course. Very refreshing to have a teacher that teaches in such a modern style
Statistics is not an easy subject, and it's even more challenging via DL. You're not on your own; she almost overwhelms you with outside resources and she is very enthusiastic and helpful. Yet, when you hit the wall, it's pretty much up to you to figure out how to get over or around it. Be prepared to devote a lot of time.
I'm shocked to see someone write good things about this prof. She is a poor excuse to teaching and would not recomend her to ANYONE! She expects you to use the calculator but won't show you how to use it.Homework is extreme....plan to spend lots of time doing homework and getting extra help in this class.
She is one of the sweetest teachers we have. She will work with anyone if they are having trouble and is flexible with due dates.
I still to this day have no clue how statistics works. Which is sad because I got an A in her class. Honestly, I think it's because she liked me. I don't know how she grades, don't know what she is teaching, and don't know how she continues to teach.
Ehh she messes up here and there pretty goofy.
Do not recommend at all. Hard teacher and does not help you if you ask for it, just tells you to look in the book. The online tests are hard, if you dont have the exact answer you will get counted off. Any class with her you will be teaching yourself the material.
Great Teacher! If you enjoy learning, take this teacher. If you're lazy find someone else. The students who don't like her are imature and lazy.
I enjoyed her class more than any other math class I've ever taken. She has a different way of helping you learn math
Although she is pretty unorganized, and gets things messed up and confusing, it was easy to pass her class. If you are not majoring in math/stats, I would def recommend her. Take her online, she gives extra credit, and will give extra points on exams, and allows notes for exams. It does require weekly homework, and tests, but it's worth it.
Decent teacher, you will be using mymathlab.com a lot. Make sure you go to every class, there are worksheets done that you cannot makeup if you miss class. Tests weren't bad at all and she posts old versions of the tests online for you to study.
Shouldn't be teaching a math class higher than intermediate algebra. Can't do arithmetic. Ridiculously annoying voice. Worst math teacher I've had in my life. Would not recommend her to my enemies. Still got an A.
shouldnt be teaching math at all! She cant do the simplest of math without messing up, and yells at the students for all her mistakes, claiming "we should already know this stuff, we are adults" how the heck are we suppose to learn anything if she doesnt even know wth shes doing?! Her hwk assignments are very unclear as well. DO NOT RECOMMEND HER!!
Great Instructor - is always there to help you; even on the weekends
Great Teacher, will help you even on the weekends. She is very organized and gives us a semester schedule.
Very smart professor. Is very helpful but makes us work hard.
Great Calclus instructor. She's very helpful and provides lots of handouts. Is always there to answer questions.
She is insane! You have to read her mind in order to understand what she wants. Even then, no one knows what she wants. Class would be 100% better if she could give precise instructions and stick to them! DO NOT take her unless you just want to be VERY frustrated and confused.
I'm taking her online and she's crazy! We're almost done and I have no clue what my grade is! I'm just hoping I pass
she's incompetent. shouldn't teach.
I would not recommend her. She assigns much more homework than is necessary (usually around or over 40 problems per assignment, and 2-3 asnmts per week, not including quizzes or tests) and simply cannot teach. She messes up simple arithmetic and doesn't explain things clearly. Plus, her voice is highly annoying & she laughs at everything she says.
This teacher is completely incompetent she just cannot teach. The homework she gives doesn't even prepare you for the tests and is always an unnecessary amount. She also giggles after everything she says.
Great Instructor! Will help you all you want
Great teacher. I enjoyed this teachers teaching style and personality. She is willing to help and is very clear on grading and tests
Very good instructor. She is clear in her teaching style. provides tons of notes.
She is absolutely the worst teacher I have ever had. She can't explain anything and does nothing but confuse the students. I do not recommend her if you have any desire to pass a mathematics class.
She is very nice and seems to love math. but i do not recomend her. I have always hated math and have never been good at it but she really did not help me at all. Her test are long and you are never able to finish the whole thing in the alloted time. I did like the partner quizs though.
I have taken this teacher twice and she is awful. Not a teacher that wants people to learn or pass. I her for pre-calculus class. But this time I spent 120 hrs or more on her class between homework, tests, quizzes, and extra credit. Her in class tests are nothing like the material covered elsewhere. She is the worst!
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She is all over the place. I purchased the book becasue her site said so then you enter class an everything is done online. THIS IS NOT an online class so why is everything online? You have to attend but she doesnt go over any information inlcass just problem. She does not teach she reviews.
I took McGinnis for Statistics. I had a hard time following along with her. She did not go into detail with how to work problems. Half the time she skipped steps, only to leave students confused on how she got an answer. I know she knows what she's doing, but she doesn't seem to care that her students are not getting it. I do not recommend her!
Literally didn't pass out the consent forms informing the students about the heavy online work load until the drop date had pass. Said she was handing them out then because "she fealt like it". That evil.
I think she knows what she is talking about but she cant apply it to the board, she teaches to the board and skips steps through each problem. She makes many mistakes and will be almost done with the problem and realize she did and go back and try to fix it but doesnt and then just puts down the answer at the end.
Know one thing in advance, if you ask her a question via email be prepared to get a question back from her. She will not answer a direct question in less than four emails. This is if you are taking her online. She is big on email etiquette but doesn't use it herself. Be sure and keep all email traffic throughout your course with her.
I took this class online and you teach yourself essentially. With e-mails I sent to her it was annoying basically because she makes you say all this stuff before you even ask a question and then she doesn't answer it clearly. I mean if you take it online it doesn't really matter what teacher you have since you teach yourself.
I don't know what the hype is. I took her online, and it was just as expected for an online class. I did start her class a week late so she was a little short answering questions, but if you need further help with the material...go to the math lab or take the class in an actual class not online. This is college, stop being lazy. She isn't THAT bad
She is not BAD teacher, it is college,. I personally would not take any class other than "prep math" or math for liberal arts. you really teach yourself. an upper level math class you would probably fail or get a c..
I've personally always been good at mat but this class killed my ego mathwise. She is so hard to follow and skips around like I've never seen. She's not a teacher I would ever recommend.
DO NOT TAKE A COURSE FROM MS. MCGINNIS.She doesn't teach. She responds to students questions with more questions. She says there are no such things as excused absenses. She randomly comes up with point number deductions if you can't attend class.DOESNT EXPLAIN ANYTHING CLEARLY. UNORGANIZED.i spent the first 2 wks playing with legos.no set lesson plan
Was a bit weary after reading comments, but I thought she was a great teacher. I took her online class and am terrible at math. She was very helpful and responsive. I loved the "view example" on the homework on mymathlab as it was VERY helpful with understanding the problem, easier to review than the book. I'd rate McGinnis with an A!
Online Math Liberal Arts 1 - She was fair and the assignments are clear. Any questions and she will address them. This is college - Do your work and assignments and you will do well. Extra credit is offered throughout the semester.
Great teacher! She has the best lesson plan. Easy to follow and is always willing to help.
All we did was cut out shapes. She gave me a D and she gave my friend a D who only took one test and did bad on it, but I had done all the tests, quizzes, and homework yet we had the same grade. this makes me think she passed her just so her fail rate wasnt so high. im taking this class again with a different teacher and im doing great.
I took Mrs. McGinnis for College Algebra. I tried to give her a chance however during the first class she explained that no student shall be tardy, but then almost every subsequent class, she was late herself. The biggest problem I had with her was that she is CONSTANTLY wrong. She is always correcting herself and hard to learn from. Not reliable.
Took her for College Algebra. All I can say is SAVE YOUR MONEY! I have never encountered anyone so unclear in my life. She is just all over the place. If you ask her a question, you will just end up more confused and you will never get any real help from her.
Great teacher. Very organized and helpful. She goes out of her way to help students. If you want to really learn math take Ms McGinnis
Great instructor! She will work with you if you ask questions. Put in the effort and you will do great in her class.
She is very good instructor. Patient and helpful. She gives students lots of chances to earn their grade.
This istructor has a great syllabus and calendar that is easy to follow. She is always willing to answer questions. Her tests and grading system is fair.
This class is a lot of work! If you understand math then it might not be so bad. If math is a hard subject for you, then I would recommend not taking this class. The midterm and final were worth 65% of my grade. Avoid this class if you are not a good test taker.
This is an online that is challenging to most students bu Mrs. McGinnis is very helpful and responds to email very quickly. I enjoyed the course.
Ms. McGinnis is an excellent instructor! She always asks if there are questions at the start of every lecture. This is college people! Do your work!
Great class! Ms McGinnis uses current events to help you get an understanding of statistics. She is very organized. Good student like he
Although this class was suppose to be an in class room class, we did everything online. Which really was not that bad. You did have to go to class everyday. Ms. Mcginnis is not a bad teacher once you figure out how she goes about doing things.
GREAT INSTRUCTOR! I feel so Mich more confident in math. She made me work hard for my grade but that's a good thing!
I love mrs McGinnis. She will always help you if you ask. She has alot of enthusiasm for math
She's a wonderful instructor! Very caring and helpful. I love the projects we did in class.
This is the best PreCalc teacher I've had at this school! I'm finally understanding math for the first time.
I took MS mcginnis class about 10 years ago. I now have a PhD from UCLA in mathematics. Follow her directions do the work and you will come out with a deeper understanding of math as a language
Students are so disrespectful. Mrs mcginnis is the best teacher at this school! I really learned a lot in her class. I'm using her teaching methods in the classroom.
I didn't like math until I met Dr. McGinnis. She helped me understand and I now love math! If you really want to learn work hard and it will happen.
Great instructor! I love that she answers all our questions! She is very kind and patient! She answers emails promptly
Mrs. McGinnis tells you where you will use math in your life. She is good at connecting book math to real math.
I find this class to be challenging. The professor gives us lots of chances to learn and make a good grade. If you don't like her it has more to do with you than with her teaching.
I do not see how Dr. McGinnis has been recieving such decent ratings. I have never struggled with math unitl I got into her class. As a high school student I have made straight A's in math and now I struggle more than I ever have. She is not clear nor does she math easy to understand. I understood things better before entering into this class.
She I a good teacher. She gives a practice test for every test and allow us plenty of chances to make a good grade on the quizzes.
This is my favorite class!
The class is very well organized. Mrs. McGinnis answers emails promptly. She is very helpful. I've enjoyed this course.
I went into this class enjoying math and being alright at it. But she is the most confusing women ever.. She will not answer a question clearly to save her life. She is also very awkward like she should not be teaching in front of large groups. I had to drop this class because of failing 2 test. Highly do not recommend her.
She is a very rude, yet awkward women. Algebra always came easy to me until this class. The work load in the beginning of the year was so intense, that I was spending at least 3 hours every night, about every other night doing her work. You would basically have to teach yourself everything. She was horrible at explaining and didNOT answer questions
Great instructor! Yes the course is a lot of work but this is college not high school. She gives us many chances to make a good grade. She assigns 12 quizzes and drops the six lowest grades. If you can't make a good grade in her class then its your own fault.
Wow! McGinnis lets us work in groups on our quizzes and use notes and the book. she gives us a study guide for every test and the test consist of the questions from the study guide! She is more than fair!
This is a hard class but Dr. McGinnis is very fair. She gives us the chance of writing the test questions. I like that she gives lots of quizzes but only counts the top 6. We are allowed to work in groups on the quizzes and use our book!
She really depends on you as the student. If you do a lot of studying on your own as well as the classroom, then the class should be hard, though the online work is a pain. For me, I learn best in the classroom with the teacher, which is not the case with McGinnis. Not that the material is really difficult, just a bit harder to grasp.
Mrs. Mcginnis is a good teacher. I enjoyed this class. She is very personable and will help you if you ask. I've been to her office several times. She always makes me feel welcome. I'm going to take her again for Liberal arts math
I took this course online. Ms. McGinnis answers email promptly! Sometimes within minutes! The course is very well set up. Learning on your own is hard but she is there to answer all your questions, even on the weekends!
Professor is useless. She doesn't teach at all. She just uses the Pearson website for everything and says in her syllabus that she needs to be the last person you ask for help. She doesn't return emails asking for help with a concept, she tells you to use the math lab if you call. Useless.
Dr. McGinnis was a very confusing teacher. I did not understand algebra at all with her but when I took it in high school I truly did understand it and made an A but here I made a C. She is a confusing teacher. As a person she is great and will relate to situations if you had to miss class. But as a teacher she is a very poor teacher.
she rushed through sections. didnt give a lot of homework. she didnt help you, if you need it. she makes you write down step by step each problem or its wrong. she didnt have enough grades by the end of the semster, so she assigned 3 extra tests. she doesnt hardly review n not exam at all. this class is where you have to learn on your own.
I dont know why all the bad reviews. She is one of the best teachers I have ever had.
Ms. Mcginnis is a great teacher she has the ability to explain things in a way where students actually understand. The other people probably just gave bad reviews because they weren't just given A's for free.
Took online. She gives you a few homework lessons a week but you can work as far ahead as you want. She allows 4 retakes per test. The midterm is online and you're allowed 2 tries and the final is at the college but she allows you to bring notes. I'm terrible at math and received a B. Would've easily had an A had I turned in everything on time.
she is very nice but you have to work hard to pass the class
Knows the material, but very disorganized. Would often schedule two chapters, but would often teach one well and rush the second. Good at answering questions outside of class.
This teacher is a joke. If you are not a self taught student, then run as far away from this teacher and this class. She is VERY unorganized. Most people who passed this class, read the textbook and taught themselves. She is no help, and honestly should not be a professor, because asking your students how to spell COLOR is a tad bit embarrassing.
I love mathematic, so I do not recommend to take her class.
I tried to do the mid term said I took 170 minutes to turn in nothing
She wasn't the best at explaining but if you even somewhat understood math in high school you'll be fine. She gives homework packets at least once a week but once you've earned 200 points for homework (5 points for each correct answer) you can stop doing it. She gave out a review packet for the final I did some of it and got 40 extra credit points.
I took the following class CGS1100 during the summer because i thought a computer class online would be easy. Wrong. Unfortunately, Mrs. Meg makes things 1000x harder then they need to be. The instructions are very, very detailed to the point of confusion. Everything is everywhere. She seems nice but the organization is over done to where you can
This was an online class. I enjoyed the class. A good bit of material was covered and I am more confident in my mathematic abilities since taking this course. As with any online course, if you are in need of hand-holding by an instructor, you will be better served in a live classroom or perhaps some remedial courses.
I took Mrs. McGinnis for College Algebra and she was a great teacher. She gives very few tests, and they are all take home. She grades by a point system which gives you a better opportunity to do well in the class. Participation matters to her, but she is always available and helpful with any questions you have. Easy A in my opinion.
Sounds like a goat. I sit in class contemplating whether or not to claw my eardrums out. She makes everything 20x harder than it has to be and I've ended up doing everything on my own.
She does not seem prepared when she comes to class and makes many mistakes in her arithmetic during lectures, which the students have to correct. She assigns a lot of work which seems almost impossible to complete. Make sure you read your syllabus because there is a lot she will not tell you during class that is necessary to passing.
Soft spoken yet is beyond rude when you have a question. She wrote the book & It makes no sense. Takes forever to grade. She takes off points for pencil/messy hand writing and spelling! Which is crazy since she has a hard time with spelling. If you question her grading, she will literally scream at you and insinuate you are dumb. I was shocked.
I suck at math so this may be why I had such a hard time with her. I took her for Intermediate Algebra and barely passed. She doesn't explain well and when you ask her a question she makes you feel dumb for asking. Wouldn't take again.
Awful, I do NOT recommend her as a teacher unless you are a master in math. She assigns a lot of homework and her lectures are very fast. I was able to complete my homework because of the question help on mymathlab. Apparently, she is the only teacher that teaches this class. I guess that's why she still has students.
Easy class, but she gives sooo much homework. It's boring but you have to show up or she docks 5 points off your grade for each absence. My biggest issue w/ her is that she is a tough grader and she makes a lot of mistakes while grading. I've had to go to her like three times to fix a mistake she made on my grade. Also, her voice is mad annoying.
When people say she is rude they are not kidding! I have emailed her a few times, very nicely, over the course of the semester for different issues and she has never once responded. Do not take her unless you have to! Take Adams (I've had him for 3 different math classes, just go look at his reviews) or Mizell if you need a great math teacher!
Liberal Arts was not that bad. This was a hybrid class so there was alot of homework assignments bc we only met with the professor once a week. All the tests and quizzes were online. Shes quirky but nice. If you miss assignments she WILL NOT let you make them up no matter the excuse. Overall, not a tough class but you will have to work.
Prof. McGinnis is amazing. I'm horrible at math and failed with another, highly rated prof. I PASSED. COMFORTABLY. That's a huge deal. If you have a pulse, you can pass. You only have to do 10/25 quizes at 100%, homework, and tests. If you miss a test, your midterm or final count again for it. Take her if you're a creative thinker and bad at math!!
Looking for a teacher that helps their students and teaches them the information they need for the future? This is not the teacher for you. Just stands in front of the class and talks, doesn't actually teach, for the time required. Anytime anyone asked her a question she would say something "read the book" and act like you're dumb for not knowing.
DON'T TAKE HER CLASS. SHE IS RUDE AND PETTY. GAVE A POP QUIZ BECAUSE A STUDENT HAD TO LEAVE BECAUSE OF AN EMERGENCY. DOESN'T LET YOU TURN IN ANYTHING TO EMAIL. DOESN'T TAKE LATE WORK. HAS A BAD WEIRD GRADING STYLE THAT IS NOT ACCURATE. COPIES EVERYTHING ONLINE AND CHANGES NUMBERS SO THEY DON' WORK. DOESN'T SECTION HER LESSONS. SO CONFUSED.
Her grading system is very unclear and I had no idea what my grade was in the class until after the final. I made an A only by a lot of study sessions and by the skin of my teeth. Went for help during office hours, she said "go read the textbook." The class consists of numerous pop quizzes and take home tests with countless errors made by her.
God awful
She's super rude and gets mad over stupid things and likes to call you out for nothing! If you miss a class it's 5 points off your final grade and if you miss 4 times she will give you failure of attendance, but she won't tell you any of this until your halfway through the semester. Dont take her!
She is the rudest teacher I have ever had! She makes it as hard as she possibly can for you to get a decent grade. If you ask her a question she won't answer it she will either say I don't know or look it up. Sometimes I felt like I should be teaching her
DONT.. DO.. IT..!!
If you want to get screamed at and get even worse at math take her
Worst teacher I've ever taken, she will not answer questions in a helpful manner.. i asked her for help on a homework assignment as she told me to just take a zero because she wasn't going to help me. I will never take ANY of her classes ever again and i advise you not to take her class. The lectures are extremely confusing . BEWARE!!! you may fail
Great professor. She is always there to help you.
I learned that math can be fun
GREAT Teacher! She is very patient and will help you anytime you ask.
I really enjoyed her class. I feel like I can really understand statistics now
Very difficult class but I made it through. You really have to work in her class
It's math. What can you say. I think I understand it now and hopefully can apply it when I get a job. She will work with you and is always available for office hours. Students who don't do well don't really try
I really like this teacher. She has a good since of humor and makes learning math fun. It was a lot of work but it's math. Math is always work.
McGinnis is the best math teacher I've ever had. I like how she teaches and that she is alway willing to help you whenever you need it.
This was a hard class. I really had to work to make a good grade. Ms. McGinnis is very caring and will help you if you ask.
hard class but I enjoyed it. Professor McGinnis gives you lots of chances to make a good grade. You do have to do your homework.
WOW! I REALLY ENJOYED HER CLASS. THE FIRST TIME I CAN REALLY SAY I LIKE MATH.
I enjoyed this class and feel I learned a lot. I am taking Professor McGinnis for all my math classes.
I've never had a professor so difficult on all my life. This class was painful every minute of the day. She had a weird grading scale and does things by points. And while there is no HW,you wish there was to bring up your grade. Only grades tests and quizzes that she doesn't tell you of in advance. If you value our grade, don't take her!
Great Instructor. She grades using a point system which is great because a low percentage score will not bring your grade down. She gives quizzes almost every class period but you know you're going to have a short quiz. If you do your homework, you'll be fine. It is a difficult class.
Best teach at the college. I learned a lot this semester but it was hard work. As one of the reviews said, she doesn't grade homework but you are expected to complete homework out of the book. The quizzes are taken from the problems in the book. If you study you'll do fine.
Easy A if you do the work. She gives you so many chances to make a good grade in this class. We even did a real study using which was interesting to see how statistics is used. Because of the point system, if you happen to mess up once in a while, it won't hurt your grade. She's very personable.
Mrs. McGinnis allows us to work in groups. Gives take home tests. She doesn't grade homework but gives quizzes that cover the problems in the book. I liked the group assignments because we can work in a group.
I worked hard in this class but it is doable. Professor McGinnis is very organized and easy to understand. I enjoyed the class.
Calculus is a tough class but the teacher is fair and I feel like I'm learning a lot. I appreciate her concern. She is always there to help you
I'm enjoying this class but it's a lot of work. The professor is very helpful. She is always there to answer your questions.
She is always there when you need her. Answers emails almost immediately. I like that she is always giving feedback to students. Well organized course.
Mrs. McGinnis always answers emails. I've emailed to inquire about math problems I couldn't understand and she emailed back almost immediately. She is always sending encouraging emails.
This is a hard class but the teacher helps you whenever you ask. She promptly answers emails and answers all questions.
Great teacher; is willing to help at every turn. Be prepared to study though. She always answer emails and is very organized.
Tough class but professor gives back lots of feedback. Is always in her office and willing to answer questions even on the weekend.
The tests were very difficult and she's a pretty tough grader. She's a decent teacher though, and really helps you understand the concept. Lectures were long and did seem to fly over everyone's heads at times. She doesn't really slow down.
She is nice and writes back rather quickly. That is about where the good stops. Gets lost frequently during lectures. You leave class confused and feeling as if you wasted your time. If you do not have time to learn math alone don't take her class. This class is for the person that loves math and has nothing else to do with thier time.
Grades are based on points gained. 880-1000 pts A. Get pts by doing EVERYTHING- that's how I finished with an A. My take home test scores were As. My in class test scores were a C, F & D on the final. Tests were unreasonable- no curves, section projects were way over my head, answers could be found online for problem solving. KNOW TRIG.
Great instructor; of course its a difficult class. The person that sat next to me was taking the class for the third time. I enjoyed the class. The point system was beyond fair.
I learned a lot and more than I though I would in this course. I didn't like math and took it as my last class but Professor McGinnis made it enjoyable. It was a lot of work as a distance learning course but I'm glad I took it with McGinnis
I took McGinnis several years ago. It's because of her tough style that I'm successful today. Work hard in her class, do everything she asks you to do, keep your homework up to date. And always ask for help. She is always there to help students who ask.
I graduated! Prof McGinnis helped me all the way. Yeah, you have to do the homework but I'm cool with that.
Prof. McGinnis is really a pretty good professor. Most of the HW was online, and I liked that we could work on it ahead if we wanted to , because that gave me time to focus more on my papers later in the semester for other classes. She offered a good bit of extra credit options, and was always wanting to help the students when she could.
Very caring instructor. I took this class before with a different instructor. Dr. McGinnis is always there to help you learn.
Great instructor. Very personable. She is always in her office and will help you when you have questions.
Prof. Mcginnis makes this class ten times harder than it truly needs to be. She spends time focusing on truly learning the ins and outs of statistics, but most of us are not in this class to be a statistician and just taking it for our general education. Learn the material on your own and make life simpler or don't take her.
I took Statistics with McGinnis and I can honestly say she is the worst teacher Ive ever had. The entire class was failing so she curved everyones grades about 7 points so that she could have a decent pass rate. Im very good at math and have never gotten less than an A, and I was utterly confused in her class. She does not know how to teach.
Ms. McGinnis is a very dedicated and caring instructor. Math is always a lot of hard work but I enjoyed the class and all the help she offered.
I very much enjoyed Professor McGinnis' statistics class. I learned a lot. There were a few winners in class you just didn't have common sense because that's all statistics is. Common sense and learning to use your calculator.
She is not a teacher I would take again. I am a math major, and I took her statistics as an elective. This class has been the worst I have ever taken. Most of the material she covered as review did not show up on the tests. I made an A in this class, but I had been frustrated throughout the course. Got an A in calc 2 much easier than in this class
Great Prof, easy to talk to. Emails back within hours. Calculus is a hard course but the prof will help you if you ask
Professor helps you any time you ask. I went to her office several times during the semester and she was always there.
This was the best math class. I was dreading coming back to school and taking a math class that I needed for graduation but the instructor made the course enjoyable.
Mrs. McGinnis helped me tremendously through this course. I was really unsure of myself at the start of class but though her always encouraging me I made it though the course!
Mrs. McGinnis answers emails almost immediately. Her D2L is the most detailed of any instructor I've taken at NWFSC. Learning math distance learning take work but she is always there to answer questions and help you through it.
Dr. Mcginnis has given us data that is relevant and interesting. We did a data analysis of dolphins in the bay. Since I'm a biology major, I found working with a data set directly related to my field of study most interesting. Statistics isn't an easy course but I appreciated Dr. Mcginnis's approach to teaching
I really enjoyed this class. It was a distance learning class so lots of work but Ms. McGinnis is always there to help you even on the weekend.
Even though I had to work hard in this class, I think it was a great class. McGinnis used data that was interesting to me and not just book stuff. Gives tons of handouts and examples to help you learn.
Great Instructor very personable
Only take if you absolutely need to. She gives 3 test, a midterm and a final.
Alright. It's easy to say that Mrs. McGinnis was and is the worst math professor I have ever had. Her lessons were unclear, and she would often ramble and make multiple mistakes during teaching. She also would grade inconsistently. I got a B in the class, but I managed A's in pre calc, trig, and calc. This means something is amiss. Don't take her.
She is a really, really awful teacher. If you're prepared to learn the majority of the material on your own, feel free to take her class. She is a really nice person, just not a competent math teacher. Most kids in my class ended up in the math lab ALL THE TIME. The entire math department at NWFSC is among the worst I've seen. Take math at PSC.
Really nice teacher. Very motivational. Home work is Brutal, 3 modules a week to include tests and quizzes that are 20-25 questions a piece on the program My math lab, so its gonna be annoying. Don't forget to check the board for challenge questions, and discussions. 10 points each.
Ms. McGinnis is a genuine instructor. She cares about her students. I worked hard in this class but found it do able. She's one of the best math instructor at NWFSC
She gives pre-homework on topics that students would not know prior to the lecture. She says that we won't use the textbook at all, but the only way to pass the pre-quizzes is if you use the textbook. She rarely gives papers back so you have no clue why you got the grade you did. Overall, terrible teacher. And her voice is awful and annoying.
Prehomework was the best for having time to review for the lecture. I found it very useful. Papers are turned back by the next class period on most occasions. I thought she was a great teacher. She called our quizzes learning opportunities which I though was cool and let us work in groups on quizzes and tests.
She always emailed me back within a few hours. She's great at responding to your questions. I admit I had to work had in this course but she has so many ways of helping you. Her course on blackboard had more content than any other professor at nwfsc. I graduated with my AA ! yea!
Ms. McGinnis gives feedback almost immediately. Papers and tests are given back usually by the next class period and always by the following week. She is always there to answer my questions and answers emails on the weekend. All math classes are work and I had to work for my grade but I liked the instructor
Wonderful teacher. Dr. McGinnis is always available when I stop by her office for help. She is very kind and caring. The course is difficult but she has helped me through. I'm not very good with algebra which makes this course difficult but Dr. McGinnis gives us algebra reviews which I believe helped my grade
This was a distance learning class. I enjoyed the class and learned more than I thought I would learn in a math class. I don't like math in general but Ms. McGinnis made it interesting. She returns emails almost immediately, which is amazing.
Mandatory "challenge" questions. Homework is done through Pearson MyLab, which is host to instruction videos that are much too quiet and procedurally generated questions that sometimes make no sense. Regular assignment schedule (cool) which ignores that spring break is a break (not cool). May as well buy the book and teach yourself the material.
Shes a great instructor. Shes helped me tremendously throughout this course. Amazingly she answers questions on the weekends. Her handouts and videos are so helpful. We get three chances for every test. So if you mess up the first time you can take it again! I really enjoy the class
Mrs. McGinnis is so understanding. I've had a few set backs this semester and she so inpired me to keep going. She answers email almost immediately. I don't know how she does it but she is good with feed back and getting back to me.
If you want a class that's not test heavy, this is the one to take. There are graded assignments, challenge questions and discussions that are so much easier than taking a midterm and final. The set up of this class is somewhat different than what I'm use to but so much easier to make an A .
This instructor is the only instructor at nwfsc that answers emails promptly. Math is difficult no matter what teacher you have but she is always there to motivate me to do better. I don't really like math and this is my last math class. I'm glad I took it with Dr. McGinnis. this is the first math class where I felt I really understood it
I took her class online and like the layout of her class. She is very understanding and answers her email promptly. I would recommend any student to take any of her classes! It is a lot of work on connect but she is very fair in her grading system! I think she is a pretty awesome professor ...
Great person, horrible teacher. She does not come to class prepared and everything is just scattered. LISTEN VERY closely because one day she says you will not have a test and the next you will. Homework is way to much and is not relevant to the test. Group project are fun and helps you understand the lesson more than the homework or lectures
Ms McGinnis is an awesome teacher. She has clear grading and allows us to take tests in groups of 2. She provides a calendar at the start of the semester. I always knew what we would be doing in class.
Ms. McGinnis was my instructor several years ago. What she taught me was very useful in the real world.
Great instructor! I learned a lot and was able to use it all in an engineering degree.
Best instructor I ever had. Wish she was still teaching here. Students who have the opportunity to study with her will gain skills for a lifetime. She is very caring and will help you anytime, even on weekends. You have to study but she helps to create a fun class. She is the reason I continued my education through the doctoral level.
Prof. McGinnis is a fantastic instructor. Her lectures are engaging and she's always happy to provide extra help. While the material is challenging, her guidance and resources like unstuckstudy ai make it manageable. Definitely take her class if you can.
