She was very theater oriented because that was her major, however she thought she'd try teaching. She goes off on tangents often and you must do the reading to do well in class. Grading is based on tests mainly (70%). Not very interesting.
She purposely grades hard in her class and assigns difficult but she is willing to help if you don't understand. She grades hard on the essays but fairly easy on the tests.Majority of your grade is going to be based on your essays (50% combined) and a research paper (30%).
The class was hard at times, but well worth it. Although she does go off on random subjects, she is funny. You will learn alot and be well prepared for 1A.
this class will be a rude awakening class for anyone. we had 5 students in the class interested in becoming english majors. We finished with 1 of those students keeping the class. For hard and time consuming. My advice STAY AWay!
..........
nice teacher, but teaches on her interests
Be prepared to work for this class. She is a nice person, and always available to help outside of class. However, the class does require some real thought and is fairly time consuming. I expected her to grade the essays a lot harder than she actually did. I'm still glad I took the class with her when all is said and done.
Wonderful human being and great teacher. Students must be prepared for this level of english.Love the way different issues of life are discussed through the readings. There is not wrong interpretation as long you can relate your thoughts with the readings. I got C but I lerned so much that I became better at analysing and writting essays. I recomen
If your a slacker who wants an easy ride through college DONT take the class. However If you are a serious student Dr. Morrill gives you all the tools you will need for success. Also, if you pass her class all your other Eng classes will be easier
Dr. Morrill is a great COLLEGE LEVEL professor. If you’re looking to actually improve your writing skills and take a little extra something from a class then I TOTALLY recommend her. However if you just want in easy A then this is not the professor for you. She is easy to approach and VERY helpful. She's intelligent funny and a total dork ...but in
She is nerdy but very fun!
This teacher is EVIL!!!!!!!! We had several people who were in advanced english all through highschool worked their butts off and still flunked her class! AHHH stay away!
Dr. Morrill totally rocks. She is definitely one of my favourite professors @ RCC. I took her for eng 1A and Eng 45. her class is always interesting! She's a complete dork and really funny. If your not a serious student then i don't recommend taking her class but if your serious about improving your writing skills then shes definitely the best professor to go to. If your an Eng. Lit. buff then i definitely recommend her eng 45 class. oh yeah ..she's also really cool about late papers!

she deffinetly feels strong about her teaching but, if you dont want to kill yourself for D than I wouldnt go there.
i admit i did not like her at first. her class was definately a wake up call. she is rather funny, a complete nerd!!! i dont recommend her if you dont like to work! BE PREPARED TO STUDY HARD! AND READ ALL THE TIME!!!
the key in passing her class are office hours and lab hours!!! GO TO THEM!
her class is fun but takes alot of work. i like her very much! the key into passing though i think are lab adn office hours!!! shes so helpful! i recommend. but you have to WORK!!!
very bad teacher. if you dont think the same way as her on essays, dont excpect to get anything better than C. i got nothing better than c on all essays, and now in eng 1A and getting all a&b.. it is all based on your thinking like her.
her class is hard. out of like 35 i think only ten remained at the end of the semester. and not all of them pasted i think!
i took her class and now im doing relaly well in 1b. she really did her job and made sure you had the skills you needed before you went to 1B. eventhough her class is challenging the rewards after are worth it. i learned so much from her. if you can pass her class you can pass any.
shes a complete nerd! i love to see her laugh at her own jokes!! one of my favorite teachers. she knows what shes doing. when you get the hang of things her class is really easy. dont make things harder than they really are. you can do it!!! remember she does provide office hours and go to lab!!
AWESOME teacher! VERY smart! like SUPER smart! cool stories. goes over material very well. but she is a COLLEGE TEACHER! so dont expect an easy A! you gotta work HARD!
This lady is incoherent, thinks she is funny when she isn't, her lectures are unclear, and her syllabus is plain out retarded. Turns out she is a**** and she'll even let you know because she brags about being that way. I would never suggest her to anyone; ever. If it was my call, I would give her a two thumbs down.

Started off as an interesting and challenging class. Unfortunately, if you're planning on taking a full-time workload, or doing anything extracurricular, I would definitely NOT reccommend taking this professor's class. She goes on many tangents that don't relate in any way to the topic at hand; I found I didn't learn much of anything in her class.
English has always been one of my favorite subjects; her and her class were so bad that it almost destroyed my love for english. DO NOT take this teacher, the first day she tells us about how it's rare to get an A and only one student ever got it and then she embarasses each student one by one. This lady needs to get fired, she's not a real teacher
She is an amazing teacher!! She is extremely inelegant. If you are in school to learn and want to become a better writer then take her class. She is a hard teacher but she is very helpful. If you work hard you will succeed in her class. BE a student and suck it up…. She is one of the best English teachers at Riverside Community College. Also she h
Started off as an interesting and challenging class. However, if you're planning on taking a full-time workload, or doing anything extracurricular, I would definitely NOT recommend taking this teacher's class. She goes off on random topics that don't relate in any way to the topic at hand; I found I learned very little in her class.
If initially discouraged about taking Dr. Morrill's class after reading all of the poor reviews of her teaching/grading, one should take a close look at the writing mistakes so many of these people make just in their reviews of Dr. Morrill. She is fiar, but expects great work. Her classes are college level and she holds her students to these standa
awesome teacher! i love her so much! she wiped me into tip top shape to be a college student. She taught me good study habits. I took her about two years. EXCELLENT TEACHER. very hard but you wont believe the papers and the work that you actually did. she will push you to your limits but your capable of doing it!
oh dear! wish i would have known about this site before i signed up for class!!! take a different professor unless all you want to do is listen to her complain about children and teenagers. I'd give her a D- for class content!
Tried taking her last spring, was put off, and decided to attempt again this semester. Nothing changed. She's old(er?) and very set in her ways and opinions. Very high opinion of yourself. PLAYS FAVORITES. And God forbid you have a different opinion than hers, nevermind the fact that you back it up coherently and intellectually. NEVER AGAIN.
I took Prof. Morrill last summer, right before I transfered to a University. It was a demanding class but ultimately prepared me for my transfer. I took an upper division writing class at a 4-year and passed with a A+ because of her! She really prepares you for the next step. Hard work, but worth the time and effort!
I took Prof. Morril for English 1A and 1B. She prepares you for University level writing and critical thinking. She has high expectations but she has an open door policy and is easily approachable for help. As for favorites-your on her good list if you ask good questions.
Professor Morrill is tough and straightforward. She will scare you on the first day of class! Lots of work to do in her class and reading! She is extremely open to helping you outside of class. At the end of the semester I was glad i stuck through till the end unlike so many others. I got a B in her class!!! Make the effort = passing the class!
Dr. Morrill is an interesting one. She is an EXCELLENT professor, but she does not make her class an easy A. Believe me when I say you HAVE TO WORK FOR IT. If you are looking for an easy A, I TELL YOU DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. It is literally impossible to skate by. I love this professor. I LEARNED ALOT.
One of the worst English professors I've ever taken! I would not recommend anyone to take ANY English class with Dr. Morrill. The class lectures are all about her and her Ph.d. God forbid you disagree with the woman when writing an essay.
One of the worst instructors I ever had. I would not reccomend this professor to any one who had to take an English class. She's full of herself and can not teach.
Do not expect an easy grade. The subject matter was difficult to understand and confusing. The professor was not much help. I found more help from the tutors.
I found this teacher less than helpful. I would never take her class again.
This professor is tough but she prepares you and teaches you how to really write. I went to her SI hours with Rachael and they truly helped. Rachael helped me get through the course and I went from a dooming "D" to earning a "B" on my essays. I plan to take her again for ENG 1B so I can improve my writing skills and get more help from Rachael.
I would never reccomend this professor to another college student. There were inconsistencies in her lectures. The tutors were more helpful. She is a difficult teacher.
I fould this professor boring. The lectors were dry and had noting to do with the exams or midterms. We rarely worked in the book. I found myself lost when it can to writing the essays. She would change the direction of her topics and essays. The groups work was the only help I got from the class.
This teacher is super hard. I felt that I barely passed her class and learned nothing. The lessons were made for someone in a English 1A class not English 50. She confused a lot of people in class, including myself.
Best reccomandation for this teacher is never take her. She was not consistant with her lectures and tests. Trying to get help from this teacher is near to impossible. I learned nothing from the class and was forced to find outside help.
will prepare you for college... very honest.... she cares about her job..... she is a true professional.... she loves to help.... go to her office hours when your stuck and she will clear up everything.... great college teacher... but you have to be college student
Hard to understand why this professor is still teaching. She is self asorbed upon herself. The lectures were not about the English course but herself. I was forced to take Englih 1A over again from another professor, which I learned from. I question why this professor is still teaching.
She challenges her students to do the very best they can. Most people in her class were lazy and didnt start their papers until the last minute and thats probably why they had such a hard time in her calss. dont procrastinate, go to her office if you have a question, and do the homework ,and you will leave that calss feeling more confident then bef
teacher is super hard..expects the world from her students....can only think her way..or ur wrong! DO NOT TAKE HER
she is a very nice teacher just do all your work and save it cuz she is going to bring it up again in the mid term. i got an A on the midterm. The only hard part was the projects we did at the end of class when we had to write about old films. if you do what you are supposed to you should pass. Shes really nice but kinda boring
If you do not agree with Dr. Morill you are wrong. If your papers do not agree with her line of thinking, you are wrong. She changes the class structure at will to see if people are paying attention without any prior notice. She is unclear about when assignments are due. I recommend not taking her class if you plan on an easy grade.
Decent teacher. If you take some one on one time with her then you can learn a few things. Hardest class ever. So much work. Prepare to write a doctoral dissertation on horribly dull topics.
Could not stand her. Awfully dull subjects. about war. shes not even a real eng teacher, but a film teacher. Hard grader.
i thought she was allright.. she would help alot if u actually went to her.. alot of people wouldnt so they would complain ALOT.. didnt really look forward to her class that much.. but talking about dogs really SUCKED. theres only so much you can say about "mans bestfriend" it was pointless. lol.
The worse teacher I have ever had. Talks more about film than english and even when she does speak about english it is like listening to a retard explain calculus. Why she is still making a pay check at the college is beyond me. She is not helpful and very rude. You would have an easier time learning english from a man who is blind, deaf, and mu
No, Morril is not easy, but this is college, so get over yourselves. Don't expect to get away with the kind of material you wrote in high school. And yes, she actually does read the ENTIRE essay! However, she is quite generous with revisions and extra credit. She is qualified to be an English prof., regardless if she teaches courses in film also.
took intro to film studies with Dr. Morrill in fall and i have to say it was my favorite class. there is a lot of work but it is an enjoyable class. i thought she was extremely helpful. dont slack off and do all of your work.
Not an easy A, but a very rewarding class. She lets you rewrite your essays as many times as you want until you receive a grade you are satisfied with. Lots of reading and work, but definitely worth it in the end. Just be prepared to apply yourself.
Horrible. She likes to belittle you and make you feel like you're not good enough to be in her presence. She reduced me to tears in front of the entire class and then proceeded to tell me "you're not nearly as smart as you think you are." So if you're a masochist, go ahead and take this woman.
The best English teacher I've ever had. Yes, her work is challenging, but she teaches you to appreciate literature. If you actually talk to her, she's extremely helpful and flexible: lets you rewrite essays as many times as you need to, gives advice on how to approach the essays, and is in general a great, caring teacher. Highly recommended!
Very pretentious and egotistical. Dismisses any debate. Her words are law, even on opinionated subjects. Needs better communication with her students.
I took the hybrid class and it is a lot of work! Be ready to write write write and think think think. She wants her students to become critical thinkers. I am so proud that I hung in there and finished her class. I really think that she has prepared me for upper division courses. Just keep up with the work and it will pay off in the end.
She actually makes you work. (ENG 1B btw) shes a pretty challenging teacher but will help you if you go to her. i had the hybrid class and it was a butt load of work. she lets you rewrite the essays as much as you need. GOOD LUCK!
She is a funny and nice lady but there is a lot of reading and work for this class. Theres like 4 or 5 books that u have to read for the class and there is a lot of assignments for each. She can be unclear sometimes and very difficult when it comes to the essay and the critical thinking. If you dont read the books front to back you are screwed.
Taken for International film studies. She grades like a lit teacher and her weekly assignmnts "RQ's", consist of 3-5 questions that need at least a paragraph response, responding to textbook or films watched in class. After watching film you have to do a viewing response (essay) ussually 2-3 pages. Midterm is essay, and Q's, Just do what she asks!
Dr. M is a fantastic writer. She may come off as harsh, but I assure you she knows her stuff. Always available to help, and is extremely helpful. NOT an easy A class, but take it if you are interested in improving your writing skill! Plus she's hilarious. But she is hard - don't say I didn't warn you!
Lots of book work,(do it,mid term and final questions based on homework) watch film and do 2 page essay response about every other week or so, near end of class it becomes weekly. Nice teacher. Very dedicated to her work, film, and very knowledgable. Only midterm, final, (both have homework questions -paragraph answers- and essay) and 6page research paper on your choice director at end. Can use book and notes! Overall, just do work, participate in discussions and open the box in your head to film
Such a great professor. Yes, she makes you work, but this is an English 1B class, she's preparing you for university. Super helpful, very knowledgable and pretty funny too. Do the work, come to class, and you'll be fine. Also, I had to add into the class and other professors had reading material that seemed way worse than what she gave us!
Honestly Morrill is a decent teacher, just do the work and actually put time/effort into it; especially the essays. I feel like she had a personal grudge against me though..she told me i would never make into my desired school & career. She made quite a few irrelevant and rude comments, but overall she just wants to see her students succeed.
Worst teacher ever. she is so rude to her students, and makes you feel like you are so stupid. When asked for her help she basically said I did not pay attention in class and that I am very irresponsible. Never take her class.
I took her for fst7 in the fall and enjoyed it so I took her fst8 class. I really enjoy being in her class it's always fairly interesting. I'm debating whether or not to take her for English 1b. I know she is more of a film professor so I expect her to talk about film. I felt that she was generally nice to all the students in my class.
This is the second time I've taken Dr. M. The first was for English; she is a fantastic English teacher. The TV studies class was great; we learned a lot, had really engaging discussion, and had a lot of freedom in choosing the tv shows. She is an amazing teacher and extremely witty. I would recommend this class; unlike Eng-1A,it isn't difficult
Dr. M is a good English instructor. You will have to work in her class, but by the time you are done, you will have learned how to write a well-written paper - worthy of a tough UC school. If you are not willing to work and put honest effort, do not take her class. She gives opportunities to improve your essay grades which is a super plus!
This teacher is an egotistical, self righteous, pompous excuse of a teacher. I've taken many film classes and never have I had any trouble until I've had this teacher. She has a doctorates in film I believe but she only talks in terms and never teaches you. She spends the entire class period boasting about herself and belittling anyone else.
Dr.Morrill is an excellent teacher. She was my first college professor and I am currently registered for yet another semester with her. I was very lucky to have worked with her my first semester she tought me the work ethic I needed to have to apply to my other courses and at work. Definitely take her! Also be ready to work hard!
I took her Hybrid class back in Fall '10. She was really helpful and passionate in her lectures. She tries her best to explain every detail before demonstrating videos. You can reach her at her office if you have any questions regarding any assignment or homework. Learned a lot about cinema in her class.
Dr. M is an amazing English professor. She is pretty tough, but only for your benefit. She is always welcoming at office hours and really helps her students. This class is not an "easy-A", you'll be working pretty hard. But overall, you'll get a great education out of it and seriously improve in your writing skills. I would absolutely recommend it!
Dr. Morrill is awesome. She's passionate about what she teaches and she has fun doing it. She's very helpful and encourages the use of her office hours if you need further assistance. Like others have said: she is a tough grader, but it's meant as means to teach you instead of letting you skate by. You'll learn a lot from her.
Excellent professor. Pushes you to think and prepares you for the rigors of University research and idea generation. Reading material selection is excellent in that much of it is conceptual based and idea based which will weed out many who do not attempt to think. Prepare for excellent lectures and stern grading followed by advice.
One of the easiest classes I took all semester. Coursework consisted of watching films in class and discussing them in small groups. Two major assignments are the mid term and the final which take up a huge portion of your grade. Do well on those two assignments and you'll be golden. Other than that Read your textbook before getting to class.
Easy pass. No tests/quizzes/hw except for reading short stories & watching the movie adaptations. Grade is determined by midterm, research paper, & final (in that order) & they're all essay based. Get points for group discussions & attendance. If you know how to write a proper college-level paper you should go for it.+Dr. M sticks to the syllabus.
shes pretty straightforward, her class was fun, we got into groups pretty often but she is a tough grader! Always explains all her assignments and is clear about due dates and assignments. She doesn't just prepare you for that class but for so you can succeed in future classes, definitely reccomend her
Tough grader on essays; however, gives feedback. Make sure to visit office hours to get more information about topic. Does give you opportunity to make up if received a D. Does not like slackers.
Dr. M is one of the worst teachers I have had. She talks to the class like everyone is a Film Studies Major. She ALWAYS talks about movies that no one has a clue what they are. VERY BORING CLASS! PREPARE FOR BORING LONG LECTURES. Don't get me wrong, I like lectures, but not from her. She has a monotone voice as well. Don't take her!
Dr. M is a gem. She is HIGHLY knowledgeable on film and definitely makes you think analytically on all kinds of intersectional issues involving films. She showed a lot of good films through the semester and broke down a lot of the intricacies that helps build for in-class essays. She was laid back but she definitely expects you to work.
Really easy class just show up pay attention to the films shown in class and you should be good. Don't procrastinate like I did on the essay assigned at the end of the course if you do you're grade will drop dramatically
Despite what the other reviews say, Morrill is a good professor. She believes in her students and wants them to improve; and in this spirit, she gives plenty of guidance before assigning writing homework.
I have taken Dr. M (as she likes to be called) twice & both her classes were challenging but interesting. If you have no interest in film or writing, this class is not for you. She is very knowledgable in film & television. However when grading essays she seems to reserve A grades for only the most thought provoking arguments, but A's are possible
Do your reading and work. Make sure to sit towards the front and you'll be fine. This class was an easy A for me
She is by far the most stuck up professor I have ever met. She thinks and acts like she is smarter than any of her students... One time I presented my thesis to the class, that was based on a scene of a film, and she told me that I was "beating around the bush". Then her thesis was the same as mine but more with more words. Too full of herself.
She is a poor professor! Very rude! She will not let you go to the restroom ever and she once told a student to "grow the beep up" because he did not staple his paper. Lots of reading as well. It's honestly embarrassing that RCC would hire a professor who is rude and unprofessional.
She is very knowledgeable and takes the work very seriously. But she is very rude and has absolutely no respect for her students. Shes the kind of professor that enjoys putting her students down and making them feel stupid.
Taking an introductory course to film studies should convey an introductory level sense of grading, yet she doesn't believe in giving A's unless they are truly worthy of one to her. Her grading is purely subjective to her own, if it is not to her own standards it will automatically be a B or lower.
If you know how to write a good essay, this class is an easy A. Just do the work. She has a good selection of films to watch if you're into films. She expects you to write at college level which you should know by now, so this class wasn't hard. you're literally watching movies...
Took her class just for credit, had great movies to watch but didn't get the material that I expected. There's an essay for every movie you watch and she expects you to write at the college level. Never received an A on an essay. She's a very tough grader and treats it as an English class instead of a film class.
Morrill is a knowledgeable teacher, but she can be a bit standoffish and seem pompous. She can rant for periods of times and kinda digress from the subject at hand. Read the material and go to her classes as that is what the exams are based off of.
There's a certain to follow. the sooner you understand, the easier it'll be. For the film analysis make sure you make a clear argument(doesn't have to be serious) and back it up with the use of whatever you are reading in the textbook(i.e sound, editing, etc). Morrill herself seems mean but thats just not true, she just wants you to learn
Not the best professor by any means, but definitely not as bad as some people are making her seem. Can be a little stuck up but its an easy class and if you do the work she is actually really nice and enjoys talking to students about film
The worst professor I have ever had in RCC, being mean and rude to her students and show no respects at all. Everyone has to be in the class on time but her. She grades paper without a clear standard. All by her feeling. I dont wanna say something rude but it is a SHAME FOR RCC TO HIRE HER AS PROFESSOR!
Awesome professor! She is very passionate in what she teaches & is super nice! Do not skip class if you plan on passing, she takes attendance & it does count towards your grade. Overall a pretty easy class but you will definitely need to put in work if you want that A (she grades like an English teacher).
I took her when the pandemic hit, which is probably why I didn't enjoy the class as much. I am an avid lover of all things film, and seemed to enjoy the in-person class, spare for her cocky attitude here & there. Soon as we went online the workload increase was overkill. Short essay responses almost every week. Final/midterm essay are worth 70%
Dr. M was an absolutely amazing teacher! She really took me under her wing, mainly because of my goals to earn my degree in this field. When I had a family emergency, I contacted her and she told me to not worry about due dates for assignments and to get them to her when I could. Overall, she really helped me strive for excellence. Highly recommend
took this class during the pandemic. no zoom meetings, but she was available for drop in office hours every week or so. plenty of homework but it's doable if you use your time wisely. Dr. M comes off as a little pretentious but it's film... arguably everyone in the class thinks they're a film buff. do the reading & writing and you'll be ok
I took her class for Spring 2021, overall pretty easy class, most of the work were discussions. There's no quizzes or tests, just a midterm essay and a final essay. I rented the book but I barely used it, her lectures are way too long I disregarded them by chapter 3. Do the work and you'll pass.
Attendance matters! Uses slides instead of textbooks. Midterm and finals are important, but the professor gives feedbacks so make sure to check in with her with your rough drafts. Changed the way of watching movies. Very helpful.
If you are interested in understanding film, be it history of the industry, technical aspects of the filming process or just really love movies, do yourself a favor and take a course with Professor Morrill. Her screen adaptation course helped me become a better writer and she changed the way I analyze films! She has so much knowledge to share!
Dr. Morrill is a fantastic professor. As an online class, there is a discussion each week on whatever topic is being covered. There is a powerpoint lecture about the topic and it's easy and interesting to follow along to. You get to watch three different films and learn different film techniques about them. A mid-term paper and final paper as well.
Professor Morrill is amazing. Someone who truly loves film. The weekly reading assignments are crucial to understanding what's going on and going to class helps out so much. If you're consistent you can make it through. I love film and this was a class I took for fun, so if your thinking of taking it just for credits don't...
