Dr. Paul was a wonderful professor, better than most, pay attention in class and do the homework questions (not copy them right before class) and you will do good on exams. Excellent instructor in lab as well, reports were fun to write, great prof.
She is a very nice intructor in terms of her personality, but i guess she is scared to teach the students from her knowledege, so she summerize the book and talk through her summerization in class, her tests were ok but she should acknowldge the students
Moves really slow in lecture, our class was a 1/4 of the material behind. So the lecs didn't follow the labs. Says "um" on ave every 10 sec (we did calculate this) Explains material very well though. Just slowly. Tests come directly from lecture notes.
The exams are NOT from lecture notes. The notes just won't cut it. In order to get a B+ or higher you should read the chapters at least twice (if you have this kind of time) and use the notes as a review. Nice person, rough exams.
I promise you, the tests ARE from the lecture. I didn't even open my book, and I did very well just by going to class every time and studying my thorough lecture notes. I suggest writing your own extra notes during class, because hers on the overhead are quite vague.
Class lectures fell WAY behind schedule and notes on overhead were very vague. She wasn't too good with her communication skills, but well knowledged in Biology.
Dr.Paul is a very smart woman and she definetly knows her stuff but has absolutely no teaching or people skills to give this knowledge to her students.By far the worst teacher I have ever had.She needs to go work in a lab somewhere where she doesn't have to talk. FYI:Record 252 "ums" in 45 min class
not really too great at getting material through, but i read the book and got an A. probably because i had an amazing lab instructor
She wasn't very clear. Not a good lecturer, however, her tests were fair. It helps when you ask her questions.
Really nice professor. Very easy. missed over half the lectures and still got an A. Just read the book in depth and make an outline of it. Thas all I did.
Great lady. STUDY and you'll be fine. Very helpful and oh so sweet.
Instructor demonstrates many nervous habits and takes too much time on simple material. Multiple choices on exams are worded oddly and almost impossible. This woman needs to take her menopause medication before coming to each class. She is seriously, clearly imbalanced= CRAZY!! SAVE TIME, MONEY, and SANITY- Take Dr. J. Kelly instead!
I think all I need to say is that our class average on our last exam was a 60% (1% away from an E). And we studied like crazy. She's nice but you will not succeed. Idk, unless you love plants, don't take the course in general
Run away, run away. WORST teacher EVER!!!! Who gave this woman a teaching certificate?! She is smart, but doesn't have the ability to run a classroom/lecture/lab. You will regret taking her. All you freshmen and new students... RUN- Take ANYONE BUT HER!!
**** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** take the hint!
I thought climbing the mountains were harder. But She is a really nice teacher. Good respectful Person. But her tests were really confusing. Our class had an average of 60%on our last exam. We studied our butts off. IF I were you I would go climb a mountain Instead because that is alot better and easier. Just run away instead.
irritating "ums" through the entire lecture, not able to tell students not to ask the same f-ing question (even if it's a hundred times in a row)...office hours are for something. We didn't cover multiple chapters for the final...tests are written in different languages than she speaks in class.
Had her for micro lab, she was extremely easy. She graded the labs easily and the lab was very straight forward. Try taking her for lab if u can.
U of M Dearborn should fire teachers who dont teach their students correctly. Complete waste of a class.
Weird teacher, she didnt seem to know the material very well, she was confusing.
Dr. Paul is a great lab teacher, not only because she just expects you to show up to get a A in lab, but also she is very understanding and knowledgeable. Just one quiz, one project and lab reports every week. She is very straight forward take her if you have a chance.
This teacher is a gift from God. All you have to do is go to class, take the notes she writes on her overhead (along with a few in between of her explanations). Her exams are exactly from the notes from lecture, and as long as you go to every class, you will get an A.
really confusing our class average for a test was a 61%. her test don't reflect the lectures, there worded really weird which makes it that much more confusing. avoid if u can
She is the nicest professor ever! Always willing to explain any questions and is full of the oddest biology information ever. It was fun going to her lab section and I really learned a lot from her. Good lab, good instructor.
Had her for lecture and for lab. She is a very nice lady and is extremely helpful. Exams were fair and questions were taken directly from lecture. Really knows her stuff! I would definitely recommend Dr.Paul for Biology.
Dr.Paul, is a real nice lady, however just not as a professor, had her for Genetics Lab and 1cr class and I did more work than my Genetics Lecture, if you don't need it then don't take it. "Short Quizzes" were the trickiest things i've ever seen.
great professor, even if i only had her for lab this semester, she's VERY caring and also empathic. when the lecture teacher came into our lab to yell at us for our low exam grades, she apologized for his behavior when he left, she's very nice and down to earth and really an all around EXCELLENT teacher!!!!!
had her for lab...she's very helpful, she taught us more than the lecture teacher did,he didn't teach at all, she's very good at explaining, she goes slow and makes sure everyone understands, i wish she taught the lecture too
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. she stands in front of the class and talks and talks and talks about NOTHING OF ANY USE TO ANYONE. her tests are like she pulled them out of her butt. nothing on them had any correlation to ANYTHING she taught. You'd be better off buying the book and teaching yourself and only attending class to take the exam..
Dr. Paul was a wonderful lab instructor! Quizzes were fair and predictable, although they weren't returned for several weeks if at all. She was very knowledgeable about Biology and was ALWAYS willing to help you out on labs. A bit disorganized, but was a good instructor!
WORST TEACHER EVER. She doesnt know how to lecture at all. shes probably been teaching for 30 years and she still has anxiety. take a different teacher, she makes bio 130 harder than it is.
Extremely boring lecture teacher. She cannot convey her thoughts into coherent sentences. You learn more by not showing up and just reading the texts. BEWARE!!!! Test are not that hard if you study but lecture is pure torture
WORST professor Ive ever had in 5years of college! Unorganized, incoherent, doesnt hand back tests for weeks if at all. MOst disorganized person. Her office is stacks of unorganized paper from floor to ceiling. This woman is horrible. Skip her if at all possible!!
WOW. She's not a good professor. Her lectures are soooooo boring! Props to those who can stay awake. Btw she went over about 4 chapters during the last day of class bc she was behind. the final was the worst. I'd rather sleep in than go to her class. just study like crazy on your own. Pretty tough class.
Um.... FTW!
I don't like posting poor comments but truly, the summer session with her was poorly structured and heavily rushed. I know she knows her stuff but this was just not a good reflection of time management vs material to cover.
I've had few classes with her. She teaches a lot of classes at dearborn so there's a good chance u'll have her for one. Here how to get an A. Buy the book!!!! Study the diagrams and graphs like INSANE she uses from the book in her lecture....and viola!!!
Dr. Pual is the worse prof on campus. She can also suck it.
This class was ridiculous. Almost nothing from lecture was on the exams. If you have the book, you are better off just reading it and showing up to exams. She has a very ambitious syllabus, but we didn't get through even half of it yet and the semester is nearly over. Overall I would say she is definitely very knowledgeable, but too spaced out.
Horrible. Pay attention to the comments below. I'm used to A's and right now, if she doesn't curve, i'm looking at a C. AVOID!!!!
Horrible. Say's "UM" everyother word. Lecture is pointless. might as well read the book. we are behind according to the syllabus. we are halfway throug exam 2 stuff but we have already taken exam 3. her notes are random sentences so when you look at them later they make no sense. not clear in explanations and unorganized.
This class was full of immature freshmen that didnt know how to study and blame the professor. I honestly thought she was a pretty good prof. Just attend lecture, take good notes and youll be set for the exam. Doesnt really go by the book.
the class was appreciable, the professor was not. very hard to clearly lecture, constantly "so, and um..so um" in between sentences, makes it extremely hard to follow topics in lecture. the CLASS is easy to get a good grade in, as long as you are independent, study, and dont hinge on prof paul teaching you a d*mn thing. wish i had adler(that bad)
Dont know why everyone is complaining she was pretty easy if u went to lecture and read the chapters its a guaranteed B. She is unorganized and never on schedule but she will not make students pay for it she only tests on what she lectures. I had adler and trust me these people have no idea, i barely got a C. i retook with Cp and got an A.
Absolutely worthless professor. Got one exam back out of three, never got any in-class assignments back, never got any lab assignments back either. Puts up textbook figures and rambles about them, doesn't give a concise idea of what we should learn. Unorganized to the extreme, bad at lecturing, horrible at writing exam questions. STAY AWAY!
Always starts class late. Lectures consisted of her saying random things about figures from the book. Halfway through the semester nobody bothered showing up. However, she is very nice and willing to answer questions. Posts study questions before exam, answer them to study for an A. VERY SLOW AT GRADING. Don't expect to see exams returned to you.
don't expect her to teach u a darn thing. don't even go to lecture the first day, as a matter of fact, don't ever go to lecture at all, because you are wasting ur time if u r. just read the book, do the study guide, and watch youtube videos to visualize. that's the most you can do, so don't overstress it.
Horrible lecturer! Don't even bother showing up to class because you basically have to teach yourself the material. Read from the book and you're good to go, other than that do not rely on her lecture/notes. Avoid.
Dr. Paul treats you like an ADULT and not a punk highschool student which is something that a lot of college kids aren't used to, especially at UM-D. That's why the freshmen kids don't like her. I skipped daily and still got an A+.. If you can't pass the class with Paul then you're EXTRA lazy, so maybe biology just isn't the degree for you...
I had her for both lecture and lab.She means well, but don't expect her to teach you anything of importance. She stumbles around every word and doesn't know the proper way to get topics across. Before she got sick this semester, we were two chapters behind Adler's class, which screws you for the final. We're playing catch-up like CRAZY. Avoid.
buy the book, and READ the chapters. lecture is only worth it if theres a lec assignment that day, otherwise you can skip, as long as you read. tests were mostly mult choice with a few fill in the blank and a short answer. she's not a good teacher, i didn't learn anything form her, i learned all on my own
Very poor communicator, says "umm" ever other word and reads exactly from the book. Seems to not understand the material herself and takes 3-4 weeks to return an exam for a class of less than 30 students. She gets lost very easy when explaining material and always falls far behind where you should be in terms of material to cover
I do not recommend anyone signing up for Dr. Paul's class. She struggles to explain the material herself and we were about five chapters behind the other classes. I highly recommend you purchase the book because that was the only thing that kept me from failing her class.
She is by far the worst professor i've had at UMD. I read all the chapters (from book) because her lecture is terrible. I did not learn a single thing out of her! She starts the chapter really slow and will fly thereafter when she realizes there's an exam coming up, squeezing in a chapter in a lecture, which is ridiculous. DO NOT TAKE HER!
She just uses material and slides from the book. You can just read the book and do well on the tests. 4 tests and a book review which was given a week before the last day of class. She told me to go buy more stuff to do better after she told us to come to her if we needed help. Read the book
The worst bio professor! Avoid at all costs! If your really want to learn the material and get into grad school... Take someone else. She's so behind on lectures and doesn't even know the material she's teaching.
Wonderful professor. Had her in the fall, curves so much, my buddy didn't pass a single exam but got a B, I got an A+ with barely any effort, yet learned a lot. Really Good professor, and very kind.
I had her as a lab instructor for bio. She is a really sweet lady and knowledgeable professor but not organized whatsoever. We only got one or two papers back throughout the entire semester.
Great professor. Very helpful, understanding, and clearly knowledgeable. She does have a tendency to be a bit forgetful, and she's a bit unorganized. Honestly I wish I had her for both lab and lecture instead of that god-awful Adler for lecture.
This professor is super fun to talk to! I wish I wasn't graduating so that I could have taken more classes with her :D
genetics is already a hard class! but with her she made it one of the hardest classes on campus! with all due respect she doesnt what she is doing!! at allll
Shes a nice lady but she has no idea how to run a college level class. Shes very behind in lecture material (10 chapters behind) and we never got our second exams back or most of the other work we turned in. Lecture is unbelievably boring and recitation is pointless but she takes attendance and their are in class activities so you have to show up.
She was very nice but very disorganized, would not post power points for the class. Exams were always different, mix of short answer and multiple choice, one was all short answer, one was all multiple choice. Never received 2nd exam back. Having the book and reading/studying on my own is how I earned my grade, barely the lecture. HW every week.
She is a very nice professor. She genuinely cares about the class and tries to make it as fun as possible. She can be a bit unorganized though. Had her for both lab and lecture. I would take her again.
This professor was by far the worst professor ever, she's very very disorganized, you won't receive any of your exams but probably one, don't dare ask her if you take her about your exams she will yell at you and use an excuse, but the same excuse every time she's not clear on what we need to know or what materials we should study worst professor
Professor Paul is the worst professor here at U OF M, if your are talking Biology for prerequisite or an upper level class with her I DONT RECOMMEND you will fail not knowing what you have in her class until the end because of her being dis-organized and he excuse she uses constantly if you ask her about any exam she yells at you she's horrible
She is by far THE WORST professor i've had in my entire life! she's rude, arrogant, selfish, and mean. She thinks she's above everyone just bc she's a professor. only gave 1 exam back entire semester. class is over but no1 knos how they are doing. don't u dare say a single word to her or ask if u will ever get anything back or she will cut points
Avoid!! SHES TERRIBLE? why the hell did they hire her? The science faculty at UofM is mostly a joke and she's at the center.
Dr. Paul is very nice but is a terrible professor. She lacks time management and ordinary organizational skills. Our class has only covered half of the chapters from the syllabus. Exams take forever to be returned and homework is rarely graded before the exam date. Exam questions are badly written so good luck, you'll need it!
I can't speak for her as a lecture professor, but she is a great lab instructor. She takes the time to explain topics and doesn't make us do all the lab reports, instead she just walks around the room and asks all the groups questions about the lab. Her pre lab quizzes are generally easy as long as you did the lab.
Great Lab instructor. She's so nice but also very helpful. She doesn't just sit for the entire lab. She walks around and helps you. She's awesome
I think Paul is a pretty good lab professor. She was always very nice and willing to answer any questions during micro lab. I will admit that she was a bit disorganized at times and we didn't get to see our final lab grade or half of our assignments that we turned in. But in her defense, she was teaching 4 other lab classes this semester.
Shes a very good lab instructor but she is very unorganized. Overall she seems pretty easy and lenient.
Lab great Lecture good luck
I don't know what a lot of people here are talking about. Dr. Paul is a great professor. Yes her lectures can be very dull and drawn out but that's the only down side. She does give quite a bit of in-class assignments so you should show up to lecture but you don't need to pay attention. Exams are extremely straight forward and easy.
doesnt let you ask questions during the exam, doesnt know how to answer any questions during lecture, lectures are straight from the textbook youre better off not coming to class and just reading except you have to come for in class exercises that are extremely easy and not anything like the exams. Exam questions worded horribly and makes no sense.
Easy and tests for me were never bad. I seemed to be the only person who thought they were a piece of cake. I just read the lecture slides and memorized the info. to get the grade. She is very unorganized however and wont give you your exams soon. Get ready to wait a while for them. Not much work though, so overall its a good class.
She's terrible and slow, but she isn't hard. Very disorganized and you won't get your exams back until after a month or so. Lecture is a waste of time, the only reason why people show up is to do her in-class exercises.
Gave/graded our exams super late, and complained/ almost yelled at us about how annoying we were asking about our exams that were taken on scantrons almost over 3 weeks ago. ALWAYS talked about her plant physiology class during our intro to cellular biology course, rude to students when they asked questions. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! AWFUL TEACHER!!!!
It's 3 days before our final exam, and she still hasn't told us what chapter to read. She claims it's "a lot of work" to post the powerpoint slides she uses in class. Our last exam was over a month ago, all scantron and still hasn't given it back. Her exams are easy if you read the book.
She only handed 2 exams back to us, and refused to tell anybody what their grade was in the class. Never answers emails. She even "forgot" to enter our final grades on time, so our transcripts showed a grade of "NR" until she fixed it. Easy class if you can teach yourself the material but don't expect to know what your grade is in the class.
This professor is extremely disorganized; she is terrible at giving grades/exams back and responding to emails. We never received our third exam which was a scantron AND took place over a month before our final, and we also did not receive our final grade until after the deadline.
Avoid at all costs. Takes FOREVER to return graded exams. We had 3 exams, a final, a paper, in class exercises, and a paper. She returned our grade for 2 of the exams, nothing else. We had our third exam on March 27, a month before the final, and she didn't ever return our grade (it was scantron) Completely disorganized, a total mess 24/7. Terrible
Professor Paul is very kind and helpful, however she is all over the place. Because of the fact that she is unorganized, many students did worse than they would have with a Professor who is on top of things. We turned in many things and did not receive them back and she also takes forever to return exams. She also changed her schedule many times.
So Professor Paul is all over the place, yes the rumors are true. Class average on exams was always failing, however the majority ended up with As and Bs in the class. She doesn't base your whole grade on your exams because there are so many points to help boost. However, you will never know what you have in the class until after the final :/
Dr. Paul is a very nice lady. She really tries her best and listens to what students have to say. She does her best at making her students happy as well as being fair. Just do your best and you will pass.
Doesnt hand back tests. Take so fever to grade. Dont take her for lab she isnt good at explaining. 2 days before the test we had to learn 4 new chapters on top of relearning old material.
Paul is a really great person, however, this class was difficult as it was VERY disorganized. By the time of the final, the entire class didn't know what half of their grade was. Because of this, studying became hard because you did not know what you had to improve on for the next test.
Terrible professor. Gives full class lectures and flys through them like we already know what she is talking about. When it comes to test time, there are a big handful of questions that were never reviewed by her in class. Awful, would never recommend anyone to take her.
Dr. Paul lectures A LOT and it sometimes does not make sense at first. I highly recommend using all of the resources on Sapling (reading quizzes, learning curve, simulations, etc) even if they are not mandatory. They will help a lot. Her exams are not terrible, but make sure you know the material well
Worst teacher ever, Im disappointed in the University for employing her. She doesn't know how to teach, she reads off her poorly written slides, she crams the material into the little time we have in class. Her exams are confusing because the wording doesn't make sense. You're not allowed to ask questions during the exam, just suffer in silence.
Don't do it. She will make you hate the class.
i can tell she means well but homegirl is LOST, even the syllabus doesn't make sense. We do have a few papers and she takes forever to respond over email. A month into the semester and we did a discussion forum and an online quiz. She really has no idea what's going on and neither do i. if you wanna actually learn, do not take it with her please
I love school. I love science. When people say they have issues with teachers, I usually think it's because of them. Not this time. She says that the information is given and blames you for not finding it when it very clearly isn't anywhere. She can't organize or give clear due dates. She keeps talking about posting lectures and then doesn't.
I can't speak for her in person structure but for her online structure she is disorganized. The material was not taught well at all and when students would express their concerns was unreasonable. The exams are hard due to them being essay structured and critical questions and not preparing students properly for it.
The worst professor ever. If you have to take her online, don't do it. She doesn't follow the syllabus and she fell so behind that we didn't learn everything we needed. Very slow with grading. Do yourself a favor, and do not take this professor.
Creates unnecessary stress, the worst professor I've ever had. With 4 days left and she has not graded a single assignment in lecture or lab. All tests are graded by an anonymous grader, whose criteria and expectations we don't know. Assigned a lab report, literary paper, case study, and video presentation all with less than a week left of class.
I've never met a professor who would profusely gaslight their students. The first 2-3 weeks of class, both in lecture and lab was wasted on learning about plagiarism. Why?? You learn that in HS. With that wasteful timing she then piled busy work, hw, and quizzes with a week left in the semester and yet has not graded a single assignment since Jan.
This women is the worst prof here period. Doesn't grade anything, it is finals week and things are not graded. She is very rude and deeming. IDEK if she has a PhD or if it is from a clown college. This class is awful. She doesn't know how to work a computer and is colder than absolute 0. Exams are graded by someone who may not be able to see.
Has 0 organization. Has not graded a single assignment the entire semester. Assigns 4 large assignments due in 1 week and does not upload the instructions until close to the deadline. All in all, a terrible professor.
I don't even know where to begin. She doesn't grade papers until the very end. You won't know what grade you will get until you graduate. She has made this class very difficult on us. She does not give back good feedback during exams as the exams are not graded by her.
I had this class online, she was so disorganized. The assignments almost all the time weren't always clear and we were so behind compared to other sections. Towards the end she rushed everything giving us a lab report, power point presentation, and paper all due around the same time. The exams were hard and she wasn't understanding with students.
she is an EXTREMELY nice professor but cant be organized for her life. We had 2 exams, final, homework, and a project that were easy or just eh. The class does require work but she just does not hand back anything on time or at all. My first exam was in October and I still don't know what I got. I could be failing class and I wouldn't even know tbh
She’s so nice and always ready to answer your questions. The assignments were reasonable. She doesn’t grade till the end of the semester and that makes a lot of people critique her harshly. I learned a lot from this course and I’d take her again. Your grade is mostly based on the four exams I used to read the book to study and I got a B.
