Ms. Pike is probably one of my favorite professors. I only went to SCC for one semester...I moved back to Detroit, but out of the 3 community colleges and two universities I have attended Ms. Pike is up there with the best of them. The course was full of good info..especially if you are going into nursing, she made it a pleasure to be in class.
Great Professor. she is really clear, experienced and has a lot of knowledge about her field. she brings to class a lot of real life experiences and that enhances her teaching style. Taker her without any doubts, of course you have to study hard in order to do well.
I definitely recommend taking Professor Pike. She really knows what she is talking about and I enjoyed her class. She gives bonus essay questions on the tests which definitely help to boost your grade. The essays are easy if you have studied the material. The class is not really hard but is very time consuming.
Absolutely awesome instructor. She is extremely fair and cares about the student. I could not recommend her enough!
do not take her. her quizzes are ridiculous. she teaches a 1200 level class like a 4000 level class. my classes at ucf are easier than this class and this is community college. DO NOT TAKE HER! do not respond to e-mails in a timely manner. condesceniding towards her students.
She is a great teacher and knows her stuff. I would highly recommend her. If you study your class notes, you will do fine on tests. There are alot of assignments to turn in, so make sure you do them ALL. You probably won't pass the class if you think you won't need to do both tests and assignments.
very good professor. She definitely knows her subject and is always willing to help and answer questions. You definitely have to study but you will learn a lot. An assignment is due every week but thet are not hard. The only negative is that she gives a lecture before every exam so you may get confused because the lectures are new material.
Very well educated professor. You will learn a lot. Do all the assignments. Show up to class. Print out the power points if you need them to take notes. Take notes. Study and read over the chapter. With that you should be fine. It's a lot of information so do some of the assignments ahead of time to leave time to study.
SHE KNOWS HER STUFF. LOTS OF WORK REGARDING ASSIGNMENTS. TEST ARE FROM THE TEXT.SHE IS VERY ORGANIZED WITH HER PRESENTATIONS.
Easy course. Pike is intelligent with lots of clinical experience to back it up. Recommend.
DL, I have a B, but only because I haven't read chapters, or turned in assignments on time. You turn in a project on Wed, and take a quiz by Sunday. Read the ch b4 you take the quiz. It really helps. The projects only take about an hr or 2. Not to bad, and she's very smart!
Do Not Take! If u dont get 43 out of 50 correct on each of the 6 test! u will get a B, thats w/ full credit on all 11 assignments! which take 2-4 hours, some 10 pages long! Took in summer, bad move, acts like its a grad course, syllabus is 14 pages long! Expects perfection, Was almost as hard as my A&P, little xtra crdt, WRKS UR A** OFF!8 PTS SHY A
The Skinny:420 total pts, 300/6 test=50 pts ea, 100/10 assgmnts=10 pts ea, 20/1spec asgnmnt=20 pts. Bottom Line: Hit full pts all assgnmnts=120, need 378 for an A, means u can only miss 42 pts total, means u must get 43+ on ea exam, full pts assgnmnts 2 get an A. Exams on 3-4 chptrs, ppt slides=110-130 per test=lots of material, little room 4 error
This class is not an easy A you do have to work. Print out powerpoint slides before class, take notes, do the review questions at end of each chapter, complete all the assignments and turn them in on time and you should do well.
Took it online and this is by far one of the easiest classes I have had at SCC! There is alot of busy work but if you read the book, there is NO WAY to make less than an A! Loved this class! If you had a question/problem she emailed back within the day. Very understanding teacher too! Always willing to work with you! GREAT class!
I took this class online. There is a lot of work involved, don't overload your schedule or wait until the last minute. Activities were very interesting and time consuming! Any emails were always answered promptly, great online support!
I took this class online and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Her quizes were slightly difficult, but the assignments were easy but time consuming. She was prompt in answering emails and always willing to help. I got an A in this class and if you do the work you will too. I highly recommend this class.
GREAT TEACHER!! KEEP UP WITH HER SYLLABUS AND YOU WILL PASS WITH NO PROBLEMS. HEAVY WORKLOAD!
i took this class online and it is no joke, i ended with an A, but barely, i got an A in AP, biology, and micro no problem, this has been hardest class. nothing against teacher, i read the chapters, but still find myself looking up every answer, quizzes were so hard, and book is confusing, i heard it was easier in class. just keep up w/ assignments
Summer online. You need to read about 2 chapters (average 30+ pages each, take a quiz and do an assignment weekly. So much work! There is no note, powerpoint or review. I got an A but did not learn much. I read but did not study. Exam questions are mostly from quizzes. She grades very easy. Buy the book asap, you take the quiz the first week.
I was extrememly unhappy when I found out I had to take this class. However, I ended up eating my words. I have continued to use what I learned in this class everyday. I took this class online. There was no skating, but she was very good about answering emails and any questions that came up. Be prepared to work, but defintely take this teacher.
ONLINE NUTRITION AND VERY SIMPLE BUT MAKE SURE YOU DO AL YOUR ASSISGNMENTS BECAUSE POINTS HELP. VERY FAIR IN GRADING BUT QUIZZES ARE HARD AND DONT REALLY FOLLOW THE CHAPTER. BE SURE TO KEEP YOUR TEST QUESTIONS THEY WILL HELP LATER ON. DO YOUR WORK AND YOU WILL DO WELL. TOOK ONLINE AND HAD NO PROBLEMS AND EXTREMELY FAIR.
I didn't buy a book and simply used her lecture notes she posted online and got an "A" easily. There is an assignment due basically every week which is a lot but very simple points. Her test can be a little tricky, but she is pretty liberal when grading short answers, essays and Bonuses. Nice teacher, but can be boring at times.
Pretty much what the last person said with emphasis on the VERY BORING. She is nice and grades fairly... but likely the most long winded professor I have ever had.
Pretty much what the last person said with emphasis on the VERY BORING. She is nice and grades fairly... but likely the most long winded professor I have ever had.
Took the on-line Nutrition course. Well organized and interesting. Make sure you are computer literate and can use sakai. Keep up with the assignments and turn them all in on time and you should be able to get an A.
Great class! Very informative but not easy. You have to work but if you study, put your best into your assignments turn them in on time then you can get an A. She is very helpful and responds to emails asap. High textbook use..READ your chapters!Loved the class and took it online.
Great class. Not easy! You have to work hard, study and put 100% effort into projects.Very informative!I learned so much!Timed quiz each week, timed midterm and final. If you did well on quizes you will do well on exams. She teaches you to apply what you learn.Loved the class and hope to have her again in the future!
I love this class. She makes it very clear and easy to understand. Not to say its an easy breezy class. You have to work to get your grade but she does not make it impossible. I'm still taking her! It's my last week and I love it! I got an "A" and as long as you do your work and pay attention, you will b fine. This class taught me alot! Great prof.
FANTASTIC PROFESSOR! I took her class online and was just short of an A. She has a quiz every week and gives detailed info on them in advance. There were only 2 tests, midterm and a final. I got a 97 on the final! She uses mostly her quiz questions for her exams. easy to communicate with and organized! Great experience!
Took my first online class with her and it was sooo easy!! I enjoyed it and learned some useful information. There was 1 quiz each week and 2 exams, which were questions taken from the quizzes. She's very helpful and doesn't make this stressful. The assignments were given every couple weeks and not too bad! I reccommend the class!!
I received an A. I took it online. Tests/quizzes are easy. The downfall is I felt like it was busy work. A LOT of busy work. I wouldn't take the class again.
She is a great professor i highly recommend her for Nutrition, as long as you do your assignments and study for your test you will past, put in at least 80% effort and you should have no problem passing.
Prof. Pike is understanding and fair. She answers emails within 24 hrs. The book is mandatory. One quiz every week two chapters long. One midterm, one final (not cumulative. Several assignments, assessments, clinical analysis, and one paper. It is a busy class. You really need to put in the time to meet all the deadlines.Follow her instructions.
I took this class in the 6wk term. It was challenging, a lot of work and required much time, but Mrs. pike is EXTREMELY helpfull and responds quickly to inquiries. There is a potential to do excellent if you put in the time and effort. Through her assignments she forces your to learn the material in order to complete the task. Overall great class!
Very laid out class. Lots of reading and about 8 assignments total, weekly quizzes, mid term and final. She responds promptly to emails and provides lots of guidance. I recommend.
I took her during summer term, class is based off of points system so you're always aware of your grade. She responds very quickly and helps you although there is ALOT of work, effort is needed. Had a b, but with extra credit assignments and submitting things I didnt do before, got an A. Plenty of opportunities to do good. She is very nice.
One of the best teachers at SSC. She genuinely cares about her students' success and knows how to prepare students to do well in her class. The class takes a lot of time to do assignments and study for tests but she makes sure you are prepared. She is very knowledgeable but more importantly she knows how to teach so that you get it.
Work assigned on Canvas and WileyPlus. The WileyPlus is essential for the course and also adds EC to the exams. Weekly discussion boards (assigned and due Sundays), weekly assignments (some require a lot of time but are fun and interesting) and 4 total exams. No cumulative final. Would take again! She made the material easy to learn. Participate.
Take it online , Easiest class ever! dont bother getting the book, I never used it.
She's super laid back for the most part as long as you show up to class. She always allows you to turn in your work late and deduct many points off when it is late. The class as a whole is super interesting and eye opening, but the lectures are long.
Took her online Nutrition Class. Very easy if you keep up & organized! Weekly quizzes & usually some kind of assignment correlating with the module you are currently on. EVERY point matters so do not turn in work late. Most quizzes are already on Quizlet as well so Google will be your friend! SO GLAD I took this class online.
She's a great Professor. If you don't understand something she'll help you. If you do the work which isn't really hard you'll pass.
This is a great professor, I highly recommend taking her class! You have to put in effort, but is such an easy grade! Weekly tests, but you can use the book since its online, so that helps! This is a kind and caring professor and will help you in any way that she can to pass! Overall this class was not hard, and you can easily pass with good effort
All in all was a great class and an easy A. Just a lot of group discussions.
It seems as though you are doing project after project. For an elective course, this class feels more like a math class or a science class. The homework is time consuming and it is one after the other. Be prepared to work. Other than this, the class is clearly described and somewhat interesting.
I really enjoyed this class. Professor Pike is very knowledgeable and really wants you to succeed. She is very approachable. She has lots of experience in the area of nutrition and has lots of stories and experiences that can be applied to what you are learning. Would definitely take her again.
I took nutrition online, she was super easy to get a hold of when I had questions, she lets you turn work in late if needed (she takes points off of course) but overall this class was interesting. she gives feedback on your assignments so you know what to fix the next time. if you read your chapters and turn in all the work you will pass.
Really sweet lady and not too tough of a grader. She assigned a good amount of assignments but they were all pretty easy as long as you have the book.
Mrs. P is a such a sweet and cute lady! I enjoyed the class, and she gave a lot of stories to apply the concepts we were learning. She's very approachable, and her expectations and work given are very straight forward. It's a lot so you'll want to study the textbook. I want to be a dietitian just like her when I grow up!
Took her for principles of nutrition and diet therepy, she made both super easy. Her assignments helped give a better understanding on the material and are simple and straight forward. Always answers emails quickly and is super helpful when you don't understand something. Really recommend her!!
Great teacher! Course was pretty straightforward, follow the instructions and everything makes sense. She is willing to help with missed assignments and is very understanding. Bottom line - do your work and you'll get an A, without a doubt. Plus, no Final Exam so can't get much better than that! 10/10. Would definitely refer her to another student!
She gives a lot of assignments but they are all pretty straight forward and not to hard but its a lot of work. She doesnt just want you to take the class she wants you to understand the material. shes very caring and doesnt hesitate to push back assignments or accept late work cause life happens. The subject itself is hard not the professor.
clear as day. JUST DO THE WORK!! that's it. She very easy, there is a research to do on the homework, but its common sense. I wish I could take for all of my classes. Easy Grader
wonderful teacher, and clearly gets points across. Gives clear grading roster of all the material covered for semester. She wants her students to actively participate, but doesnt require anyone to. If you expect to pass read the textbook. I found it helpful to print the PowerPoints before class, as she goes over it and provides further insight.
Lots of work, but everything is explained in detail for you. Very organized online course. If you follow directions, you will get an A! Responds to emails quickly and is always available. Will definitely take her again!
Professor Pike is amazing. She is very caring and is accessible out of class. She wants you to succeed, any questions you have she will ALWAYS answer. Class is pretty easy, syllabus given at the beginning of the course and its pretty clear. Easy A/high B if you try and show up for class. lectures can be dry sometimes but its a minor con. SHES GREAT
I LOVED PROFESSOR PIKE. Her assignments aren't overwhelming and she gives you step by step directions on how to do each assignment. A discussion post due every Sunday and usually one hw assignment due during the week. Test are straight forward and easy. Pretty much do the assignments and you'll pass with an high A. Loved this professor!
Professor Pike is AMAZING! She is so understanding. The assignments can be a little tough but she explains it step by step and she replies to your message within the same day except for weekends. She is an EASY grader! The first few quizzes got me down. MOST of the answers are on quizlet and the timing is more than enough to take an quiz. LOVED HER
One of the best professors ive had. Very informative, motivational & class structured well. Extra credit offered. Lots of written assignments. Tests straight forward if you study. Professor gives study guide & more to help study. Long lectures but i learned a lot.
Pike is a great professor, I learned a lot throughout this course! She also gives great feedback and replies through email almost instantly. The assignments that are given through her course are also interesting and fun!
Took her for Diet Therapy for Health Care Professionals. Do not go into this thinking that this will be an easy class or an easy A. Professor Pike makes you work for your grade. The material is not extremely difficult, however, you do have to be disciplined, organized, and READ THE TEXTBOOK. However, with that being said you can get an A.
Professor Pike is amazing. I had her for Principles of Nutrition and loved it. She is a super nice lady and loves when you ask questions. She wants you to learn and wants you to help. She works as a dietician as well so she truly knows her stuff. Not a difficult teacher and this class is actually so cool and interested.
Super nice, and gives very interesting lectures! As long as you come to class and are interested, you'll learn. If you study for the tests and do all the clinical's you'll get an A.
Super easy online, did the bare minimum and still got a B. Easy online class, book was useless though
Just follow her syllabus and read the book and you will pass. But if you read the book and understand the concept and ask for help when you need it, you will get an A. Read the book, do the clinical application, I think there were two essays but she does not grade hard.
I know students who took her in person and loved her, but online was terrible. After reading each chapter front to back and taking notes it seems that the tests were just found online somewhere random and were really hard to complete. Lots of work every week too. If you don't want to learn anything and just google it, this is the class.
I took this professor online! This class way alot of busy work!!!! Everyday I was doing something to stay on track.. Not ahead but on track. You can obtain an A but it requires alot
If you take this class online please be prepared for LOTS of homework!!! This class felt more like a science or math class with the amount of homework. There is a lot of reading and wirting.
Overall, I enjoyed having Professor Pike for HUN 2015. The class is an easy A as long as you complete the work by her given deadlines. She is very helpful and goes the extra mile to make sure all her students pass the class. Be specific with her assignments though, she will knock off points for seemingly little things or uncompleted questions.
The assignments require alot of reading but are not that difficult however she grades way to hard. You could answer every question completely but she will find something minor. Its almost likes she expects you to be a proffesional dietition. I didnt recieve a 100 on any of her assignments and looking at the averages most people received far below
I took Prof Pike's HUN 1201 online and I really liked it. There are a lot of homework and discussions we need to participate but they are not hard at all and I feel like I've learned a lot. The tests are based on the E-textbook so as long as you read the book you should be getting a descent grade.
Very informative class. Not an "easy A" class. She wants you to understand how different diseases can be affected by diet, not just memorize it. Actually, walked away with a great diet plan that I would want to follow from an assignment we were given. She's great about answering questions and gives clear answers and examples. Very helpful.
A lot of tests, homework, and so much more. If you're a procrastinator this class IS NOT for you!!! She's an amazing teacher but everything is based off the book. A lot of work but mostly busy work.
She gives homework but they are relatively easy if you read the book and pay attention.
She is the best! She uses the material and applies it to future careers, making the class more interesting. Few projects and case studies, and weekly tests on Sunday. Overall very caring professor and would highly recommend.
I took HUN 2015. The tests are open book, and short. The papers/clinicals are based on everything you can find easily in the book but are time-consuming so make sure you don't wait until the last minute to start them. Gives feedback on everything she marks off for. This was a pretty easy class.
I would definitely recommend Professor Pike. I took her for HUN2202 her assignments were pretty straight forward, quizzes opened every week and are due every Sunday, she replies to emails quickly and she's very helpful.
One assignment and one quiz per week, no honor lock. Great professor, she's very sweet. Pretty picky, but the lowest I've gotten on an assignment is a 9.5 out of 10 so don't sweat it. I would recommend the book cuz some questions are pretty specific, but you won't fail if you don't.
Honestly shes a really good professor she actually cares about you and lets you turn stuff in late& even at the end of the semester if you dont do it. Her assignments take a lot of time to complete though so if you do take it dont procrastinate like I did. DO NOT CHEAT. She will find out lol. Shes definitely super nice and understandable.
Prof. Pike's class structure was easy to follow and the number of assignments each week was reasonable. Each week would consist of textbook reading, an assignment, and a quiz. As long as you stay on top of the reading, the assignments and quizzes will be super easy. Just be sure to be specific on her assignments and you'll succeed!
Compassionate and gives great feedback on almost all assignments, learned so much and she gives EC too!
This class was awful. The professor is a tough grader, most of her exams are tricky and difficult, her assignments are very time-consuming, and will expect you to know everything like if you were a professional. This class was supposed to be easy and fun but unfortunately, she made it the exact opposite.
wonderful professor and class. read the textbook, participate in discussions, and take notes based on the reading objectives she gives. be prepared for a few clinical applications/projects, but nothing too heavy. tests every week. I learned a LOT and really loved this class. professor pike is super accessible and wants to help students succeed!!
I Took Ms. Pike for Fall 2022 and Spring 2023. I could have had an A in the class however I forgot to do two assignments. This Professor has a Clear syllabus and Grading rubric on what she requires. I highly recommend taking this professor for both Nutritional Courses called Diet Therapy for Health Care Prof. and The Principles of Nutrition.
I Took Both Nutrition Classes with this professor. I Recommend anyway in the health profession to take her courses. Great Professor and willing to help her students who have questions.
Prof Pike is good don't get me wrong. It's just that she's a tough grader. Quizzes are due every Sunday and most of them are hard. If students have similar answers she automatically will think you're cheating so be aware of that. she also let you submit homework assignments as late as possible for partial grade. Overall she's a good teacher.
The class consists of quizzes weekly, and then long papers/assignments or discussions every other week. The assignments are difficult and the quizzes have poorly worded questions and debatable right answers. On the bright side though, Professor Pike is great at responding to emails, giving feedback, and always takes late credit
She is a good teacher, everything is online, so you obviously have to study and keep up with the assignments. There are a lot of assignments.... a lot. She thinks everyone is cheating and always talks about plagiarism, but if you don't plagiarize, obviously you are fine. The class just has a very heavy workload.
God awful. She doesn't make any sense with her grading. Professor that just gets her rocks off by watching people struggle. Avoid at all costs.
Professor Pike is not the worse, but she is so picky with her grading. On top of that, her directions are not very clear at all. If you take this professor, be prepared to feel stressed out.
The class was easy. The teacher had a clear guideline and provided formatted sheets for you to answer. You had 1 test and 1 assignment per week so nothing too crazy. Some assignments were harder than others but nothing too bad. I had the teacher for Hun1001
Prof Pike provided a comprehensive outline detailing her expectations for students, and her grading is strict. While taking her class over the summer alongside A&P 1, I found it more demanding, largely due to the volume of assignments and quizzes required each week. Prof. Pike prepares you for the career program you plan to pursue.
I've had worse professors.. Pike is extremely organized and genuinely cares about her students. I would just be aware that the course work is excessive. There are far too many assignments and a lot of them are redundant. She is very - very - suspicious of cheating. Overly critical grading. Takes off fractions of points on assignments regularly.
She is nit picky and no matter how much effort you put into the course you will not get 100% for any assignment. I'm an A student and do my work. I feel she deducts points just to do it.
Professor Pike runs a challenging but rewarding class. The workload is heavy, with weekly quizzes and assignments, but she provides helpful feedback. Leveraging study tools like unstuck ai alongside the textbook can make this course manageable.
I didn't feel she was that strict of a grader, I was never overly precise in answering the assignment questions and I never got worse than a B. She responds to emails quickly and there's no exams, one of my favorite professors so far at Seminole State. Complete the assigned readings and submit everything on time and it should be an easy A.
Tough grader for sure. It's an easy class but for some reason she takes points off for fun on any assignment. Seems like the only thing you can get a 100% on is a quiz. Doesn't seem fair when her grading criteria is pretty vague sometimes. She needs to be specific in the rubric on what she's looking for if she is going to grade people harshly.
Workload is average, but rubrics are persistently vague. Pike takes a long time to grade and the grading system is *very* point specific without any comment as to why the grade was received. Full credit is unlikely to be received. Be prepared for weekly homework and biweekly exams. However, she is respectful and polite and clear in lectures.
So, she is definitely an "easy A" professor if you turn in all of the assignments and do the discussion posts. She has a lot of 2-3 day projects, so prepare to put a lot of the time into this class. Review the online book, because she can see how many times you log in. Unfortunately, I didn't do a lot of the discussion posts, that's why I have a C.
