Excellent teacher. Makes the course interesting, and chanllenging. Interacts with the class, takes questions seriously. She's a delightful, self-proclaimed "geek".
she makes political science interesting and keeps the class interested. a little kooky, but you have to be if you can make poli sci fun. she is a little hard. study for tests. take GOOD notes; she tests fairly. interested and active in what she teaches.
I really enjoyed this class. I am not real into politics but she brings it dow to how it effects you as an individual. Enthusiastic and fun. Tries real hard not to interject her opinion on others but loves what she does so it is hard. Fun for amateurs
Pretty helpful if you asked. Study, or youre screwed. But this was summer-when you dont really feel like doing anything. She's enthusiatic about politics, but you have to be interested in it as well if you want to enjoy i.

Enthusiastic, but not neccissarily in a good way. Contradicts herself a lot. Requires a 30 page reseach paper. 30 pages! For a three unit class! Quite absurd. Doesn't let her opinions about political matters be known, which is good, but she's still not very interesting.

Excellent teacher. She is very enthusiastic. The class is pretty easy, as long as you attend class and take good notes. She keeps her political opinions to herself and loves to get students involved. Has long research paper, but provides plenty of time, as long as you keep up on current events!
Very interesting, very enthusiastic, very easy.
She sucks. her teaching rules are****y
just study the guides she posts and take notes during lectures. then you should be good to go. drawback: we had a very large term paper/project, but she gives you PLENTY of time to complete it.
The class was interesting. However, professor could use more sources for teaching students. Online stuff that she offers is not useful at all. You don't know average grade for the class and you don't know where you stay. It is difficult to take GOOD notes from her lecture she just talks fast.
good prof. talks fast, fair. she knows her stuff so go talk to her if you have questions

Energetic and quick-minded professor who knows her stuff. Completely accepts students for their political differences. Material and tests are easy and the professor's dispostition makes class interesting.
She knows a lot about politics, and that is what I loved about her in the beginning; but her grading policies suck. She's a bit rough, and students that try to get good grades and try to "work" with her don't get much luck, "Oh well, you'll do better next time."
Very energetic and knowledgeable!
Unmack is a passionate teacher, who lectures fast. Come to class on time and be ready to take serious notes. Its important to come to class every day. However a difficult grader, if you ask her before the assignment is due she is always ready and willing to tell her students exactly what what she is looking for so you can get full points.
She is fast and tough, loves her subject matter though and it shows in her work. Helpful, but you have to be specific. Show up very regularly and take notes like crazy and you should be ok.
ok let me start this off by saying i'm not an A+ student, but i hold my own with a B average. i like her as a person, but as a teacher she wasnt for me. talks and hops around like a hyper sparrow. her tests were HARD (even if you read the chpts)wanted 20 court cases memorized with all the trimming. this isnt pre law.
Um, she is evil. She picks favorites in class... and, she makes you do all this work that has NOTHING to go with Political Science!! You all should take Paul Frank's political science class at Sac City!!!!! Now, he is awesome.
Hardest teacher i have had during my 2 years at JC
Hard class, she likes things to be very detailed and studying is a MUST if you want to pass the class. However, she can be really funny because of how giddy the subject matter makes her.
shes okay--the assignments online are super unclear but class discussion is always informative and open to class debate
First time California Gov't offered at ARC, in progress Fall '05. REALLY, REALLY into what she teaches. I think she is absolutely awesome and she makes it so interesting. Her passion rubs off on the students, at least me. Incredibly smart person. Great personality and very friendly.
she is so hard. and i think its cuz she knows so much. she is a really nice person and all, but she is way to hard as a teacher.
I was really frusterated in this class and she didnt help you AT ALL!! She expected you to know everything on blackboard, and although the class was not an online class, all the work was done online!! I seriously dont recommend this class!!
She's a nice teacher. I didn't have any problems in her class, and this class wasn't something I was looking forward to... She makes class fun and interactive, not just boring lecture.
Dr. Unmack is extremely passionate about politics. She so loves the subject and it is a good thing. She is one hell of a teacher and teaches well. The only problem is that the tests are too difficult. Everything else is easy and she gives some extra credit so it worked out fine for me.
tests are slightly hard, memorize everything on the study guides and you'll do okay. gives opportunities for extra credit. drops 1 test grade from final score. Doesn't require the research paper some older reviewers mentioned any more.
She is very energentic; sometimes it's hard to keep up with her. She reminds me of a hummingbird. But her passion is certainly politics, and she is a great teacher for it. I've really enjoyed her class.
Love's what she does. Makes political science interesting. Gives chances for extra credit and assignments are not too hard. Best teacher I have had at AR so far.
Her class is somewhat boring at times. The Constitution test is hard as well as her exams. I fell asleep many a time in that class, but hey, I wasn't too interested in the class at all anyways.
i'm an A student and she was still hard for me, had to study for class more than for BIO 430 -gives alot of assignm. that are hard to understand. Didnt explained properly about her projects and i was accused of internet copying - got zero for assignm, and in end dropped class with W, because i couldn't stand her. advise-take YOUNT George-A guarante
i am a good student and it is hard to study for her tests because some of it is in the book and not on the study guide i am a good student and barely passing. her random facts in class end up being on the test
she loves politics, dont mistake that. she may love it a lot more than you and you will fall asleep. the only problem is the tests are hard. id study the study guide in and out... but end up with a C, usually lower. had to withdraw. online assignment due every week which gets annoying. other than that, nice lady.
I can't believe the bad ratings for this professor! I've gotten an A on every exam and I don't sit there and study for hours on end. She gives out the study guide with every short answer question that will be on the test.. know the answers to them and you'll do fine! If you think she's hard, you guys are in for a major reality check. Take Her!
She is so enthusiastic. She loves what she does very much. I am definetly not interested in politics but she makes it very easy to get it. Her tests arnt as hard as people say, u just have to study. i do recommend her
She is tough and there are alot of points possible in the class which means alot of outside class work and tests. She provides opportunities for extra credit and access to study guides for the exams. I really enjoyed her class, she was able to grasp my interests and keep everything clear. She uses black board and keeps up on the gradebook.
If you're looking for an easy teacher, she is not one! Her tests are HARD.She expects you to know everything she talked about in class!I've been a straight A student all my life and took LOTS of notes but still got a B.She knows her politics well but expects you to know just as much!!!
Professor Unmack is not a difficult teacher. There are no papers in the class, and the outside assignments she does assign are very elementary. If you can't complete a little worksheet every couple weeks or and online quiz, you're just lazy and not cut out for college. She does provide very detailed study guides and she lets you drop your lowest te
She is the best instructor I have encountered at ARC. She is very structured and no surprises. Very enthusiastic and able to make a boring subject interesting. Work is involved but you know exactly what to do to get the grade you want. Uses blackboard and gives extra credit.
She was really good. Her lectures are interesting. I love political science and I learned alot about it in her class. I would definitely reccommend her. Just make sure and do all the work. You don't have to use the textbook alot, but you do have to make sure and take really good notes. If you study the notes you should do well on the tests.
She is very passionate about Polisci. She kindled a passion in me for it too! Her lectures are interesting. Her class was the hardest I have taken at ARC, good, but very hard! I would definitely reccommend her, you will learn. Sit close to the front and ask lots of questions. Do all the work. Take really good notes. And study hard for tests!
very good teacher. she only expects you to know what she covers in class. she knows her stuff and really gets you interested in politics. highly recomend taking her class.
Not a bad teacher per se, but definitely a radical leftist who really only pushes one side of an issue. If you agree with her she treats you all right, but if your political views are centrist or conservative she will make things less easier for you. Is a card-carrying member of the ACLU (and a lawyer for them)
Excellent Instructor! LIBERAL political views, but don't hold it against her. She grades fairly. STUDY for tests and READ the book and you should do well. You must be fairly intelligent or you won't make it. This is a challenging class but well worth it! She is VERY passionate and dynamic. One of the BEST classes I've taken EVER!
i absolutely love her. i knew nothing about politics and she has taught me so much. doesn't lecture out of the book. gives a lot of extra credit. fair grader. frequent quizzes on constitution, but they are easy. gives out study guides for test. very easy to follow. i would take her again.
Great teacher. Keeps things fun. Got B's on exams but with all the easy extra credit got an A in the class.
Cyndi is a good proffesor. I found her lectures to very interesting and she always brings a lot of energy to class. My only complaint would be she tends to not really recognize conservative philosophies and is more apt to explain ideas coming from the left.
The scantron portion of the tests seemed to be the hardest part, but do well on the essays and your grade will be just great. Show up to class even though its not mandatory- your grade will reflect. Got an A and a B and did very little reading. Taking notes thoroughly and remembering the evolution of the court cases is most important. Worth it.
Good teacher, a little kooky, but she knows what she is talking about. Tests are hard, but if you do all the other work you will get a B easy. People who say she is hard just aren't studying enough.
great teacher. I hate pols, and I actually got a B in the class. make sure you study for the tests and the study guides really help. group work and some homework which keeps your grade up. uses blackboard which is a plus and gives extra credit. go to class for the notes and you'll do fine
I got this teacher because I read on this website that she know how to teach, I would say no. I had studied really had and still I got bad grade, I would not recommend this teacher to anyone. She gives a study guide for exam but she say “it’s all fair and game, you guys also need to do reading” if she wants to say that don’t even give us a study gu
The worst teacher I ever had in my life. She give u a study guide but nothing is on the test from that study guide . I would not NOT not recommend her .
Do not take this teacher she dont know what she is doing and I think she should change her career because I haven?t learned anything from her class. She wants you to know everything from the book and boring lectures that you wont even understand. I would say you can take this class only if you don?t have anything else to do in ur life.
When I read some of the negative comments about this Professor, I was shocked! I took this class in Fall of '07 and enjoyed the class immensely. I didn't have to work too hard to get an A+ in the class. The people who had trouble in this class need to re-evaluate their study skills! Cynthia Unmack is an excellent Political Science teacher!
First of all, this teacher does not know how to teach. She has no objectives to her teachings and lessons. She creates her powerpoint presentations during class or right before it starts!! So basically she is halfassing her work. Her business hours-she doesn't have any! I have a classmate who asks to meet her during her business hours and she agree
If your looking for an easy class don't take her. Her class isn't easy at all, but if your willing to study and if you have the time to read everything in the book then take her class because it's interesting. She's a good teacher just hard. She offers tons of extra credit but the tests are really really intense. Overall, just be prepared.
I think she is one of the best professors I've ever had. She should be teaching in Grad school with her obvious knowledge of government and theory. Just don't expect to act like a high schooler in her class. This is college and she will expect you to ack like an adult and take the initiative to get a good grade, Also she's hilarious.
I really enjoyed Prof. Unmack as a teacher. It is refreshing to see a teacher who is so excited about what she is teaching. She doesnt give a lot of homework and always offers extra credit. Exams are pretty easy, just study your notes. Coming to class is important because she covers so much. Great teacher
Prof Unmack is a great teacher. She really knows her stuff and is very interested in the subject. In my opinion shes really hilarious and also very bubbly. Attendance is not mandatory unless you want a good grade because she covers a lot in her lectures! Each exam covers a little from the book and some HW is online so you will need to pay for that.
I would also like to add she does not let her political ideology get in the way of what and how she teaches.I took this class during an election year so that made political current event issues come up a lot during in-class talk. Even though she openly says shes a total liberal she will explain both sides and the possible pos and neg effects of each side.
SO MUCH WORK! For a 3 unit class, the amount of research was unbelievable. just about every assignment is a research assignment that takes atleast 2 hours. If you like research, this is the class for you. There was enough work in this class to make it 4-5 units. Get ready for a bunch of writing assignments if you're taking this class.
Professor Unmack is amazing. I loved her 301 class. The people who left negative comments about her obviously are not serious students and aren't very bright because they can't even spell or use proper grammar. If you want to do well in her class, go to it, take notes, do the reading, and shut up while she's talking, this is college.
Kinda manic, enthusiastic about her subject but a little too much to handle. Her lecturing was well done and the in class discussions were great. However the HW assignments taught usless facts and figures instead of information.
Great teacher that knows her stuff and make class very interesting. But her exams are very hard.
She is not a hard teacher. The class lectures are pretty good. Her home work on line is what kills people. She don?t take late work Don?t fall behind in her class, She not approachable! A lot of people in my class received F?s She doesn?t have a problem giving F?s. ''Brownie points'' ask about her Dog Lucy.
I was not impressed with her class. Her teaching is somewhat liberally biased. Her study guides are poor especially for the essays. They are rarely in the list on the study guide. Don't expect to get your grades soon. It took her a month to post a grade for a PROJECT! She finds grading boring so only does her job, once in a while.
Prof. Unmack's class is hard, but it's fun. Her lectures are always interesting and she covers the material thoroughly. Her tests are not easy but if you study and read the book you should be fine. She offers extra credit and is very approachable. No one ever goes to her office hours so if you need something she's very helpful to provide it.
Prof Unmack is a good teacher, she explains the subject very well. The homework is not all that hard, nor the test if you study. She expects you to be grownups and does not remind you of when assignments are due. My only issue with her, she takes forever to post grade and loses homework. You are never sure of your grade. Very frustrating.
This proff. expresses her passion for POLS by being loud and unclear. I took her class and failed like many others. She gives a study guide than you take the test and realize nothing from the study guide relates to your test...she is all over the place with her lectures and honestlly she needs to dress like a porfessor not like she got out of bed
Come to class and take notes and that is pretty much all that is on the tests She is bad at grading assignments and posting grades. Doesn't like to get back to you unless you e-mail only Not a lot of homework and not a lot of material on tests from book even though she says it is. Not really a hard class hard class but i didn't enjoy her class
I just want to say that she is a good teacher, but hear me when I say that there is a TON OF HOMEWORK. I have taken multiple classes and honestly have never had to do so much homework. Don't get me wrong, the material is very interesting, but shew there's alot of it. Don't take this class if you aren't prepared to do a ton of homework.
I love her! grades fairly. very interesting lectures. Took her Political theory class and even though she doesn't take roll, I never wanted to miss her class.
I took her online course this semester and it is the worst online course I have taken at ARC. She is very unorganized and inconsistent. I did not find the material difficult but her online teaching methods were horrible. There were weeks where she forgot to post assignments. We are a week away from the end and still waiting on grades from weeks 2&3.
First off if you take her class you will not know your grade until the end of the semester. She doesn't post the powerpoint slides or study guide until 2 days before a test, but tells you she will so don't try and write it all down in lecture. You can not miss a lecture in her class she gives points out for being there. She loves this subject.
Semester is over and I still have no idea if I have passed the class. She does not like to grade papers. Took her online class and would not suggest it to anyone.
I love Professor Unmack! This is the third class I've taken from her and I have been enjoying it immensely. She wanted to save us money and therefore didn't require a textbook which was awesome. She knows the material extremely well and treats her students like adults as long as they act that way.
Unorganized, assigns a lot of work, tests are not based off of the text or lectures. I googled one of her test questions and found it posted in 2008. Verbatim. She encourages you to email her but has NEVER responded to any of my emails. Stay away from her like the plague!
I took Professor Unmack last fall (2009), and I have to say I thought she was a great teacher. You do have to work for your grade, and if you go to class, pay attention and stay fairly on top of the reading, you will get a good grade. I got an A and barely used the book, mostly studied for exams off my notes. Take her if you actually want to learn.
Mrs. Unmack is a sorry excuse for a Professor. She is a slow grader, she is NOT helpful, she doesn't use the material learned in the textbook for tests, you won't know your grade until it is posted on your transcipt, she responds late to emails or not at all. I would NEVER reccommend this class to anyone and it is a complete waste on money.
Professor Unmack knows the subject, is passionate about it and explains it well. I found the slow grading to be frustrating as well as some other students, but she grades fairly. The tests require a lot of study time, the posted notes from her are helpful, and the website Oyez can make all the difference in your success level in this class. Pay att
Unmack loves this subject and is super perky so she's easy to follow. She encourages in-class disscusion which is fun. Try to show up every day because there is a lot of material to go over and she grades on participation. Several homework assignments and a big project. Exams are intense because she expects a lot out of her students. Slow grader :/
Online class = lots of busy work & kinda hard quiz each week. I learned so much by reading, PowerPoints, & writing assignments. It's a self-taught class really. She was generous in extending our exam time-limits so we have more than enough time to finish! Lots of points & extra credit to get. Take this class with a friend, it helps :) I got an A!
Very interesting class and Unmack is a sweet person. Understanding and helpful. A LOT of D2L reading assignments and homework. Show up for class to get easy attendence points. Semi-big project due the last week that she assigns the first week. Class starts out slow w/ Greek philosphy but picks up and gets way better. Exams easy if you do the work.
Professor Unmack is an extremely sweet and helpful person but she is tough. If you do not read the book, you will fail. You have to work hard but she is always there to help and will always clarify things and answer your questions. I absolutely loved her class. She is super passionate about politics and it rubs off. Would take her again for sure!
Was not looking forward to taking polsi but I reallly enjoyed this and managed to get an A. Unmack made it interesting and fun. I didn't meet her in person but she was quick to respond in emails and always nice. There are a lot of assignments/quizzes to do but they are not difficult if you study somewhat, keep up with the work and you'll be fine
Do not take her!! The amount of assignments is ridiculous! this does not feel like a 3 unit class at all, there are a ton of readings, power points, hour long videos, horrible quizzes, and a lot of writing assignments. not worth it for a general ed class
DON'T TAKE! She isn't helpful at all. Barely "teaches". She gets off track all the time and rambles on and on about things that aren't related to your course material that you need to know for the quiz. Whatever she doesn't lecture on (which is A LOT) she tells you to "read it in the textbook". Quizzes aren't easy. little extra credit offered
I do not recommend her. She speaks like you're across the street, it's so loud. She loses track of what she is lecturing. quizzes and exams are hard. As if she tries to confuse you. Very little extra credit. She brags how much she loves Pol. Sci and is a scientist and a "geek". Few of the material is interesting when she actually teaches.
I Don't recommend this professor. She's really nice and she's super passionate about Politics but her class is very boring. She talks to you life if you've already taken the class before. Not only do you have to purchase your book but you also have to buy the program she uses for the homework. You HAVE to read the book to pass.
Quizzes and exams are difficult (confusing wording) but she does offer study guides which helps a bit if you use it to prepare. Text, videos and extra online website for coursework on top of the text book reading. Does offer some extra credit. Hard work but I learned more about how our government works.
DO NOT take this class w/ this professor. She assigns too much work for a 3 unit class. Tests & quizzes are timed and she doesn't give you enough time to complete them. She's late on grading your work so you don't know where you stand for the majority of the semester. I don't know how I managed to get an A in the class scoring 70% on all tests.
I wouldnt recommend her unless you have a polysci background and shes just checking the box. She is very conceited and thinks extremely high of herself. There is no such thing as an easy quiz, test, or even the homework. All her tests are very hard and I am an A student. If you have a choice dont take her as she puts a majority of the learning on u
I wouldn't recommend this professor at all she definitely assigns too much work for a 3unit class and could do a better job at balancing the work load for example shell assign a bunch of reading articles, along with chapter readings, and a bunch of videos all at the same time. Test are hard and seem rigged to me. not always willing to help either.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I attended class every day and did the readings. There's not a lot of work, which may seem nice. The tests are extremely hard even when I studied for a few days I got a C+ on the test.
Professor started out enthusiastic and involved but gradually faded and practically disappeared the last 2 weeks. Very slow grader. Requires supplemental online content that is horrible. 2nd of 2 required textbooks was only used for a week. Overall she was pretty good but definitely room for improvement.
I had below zero interest in Poli-sci b4 Prof Unmack. Shes enthusiastic. Gives extra credit opps, I got an A on all except 1st exam (B) but messed up a few hmwrks (4got to do.) Most exam ?s are direct from lecture. If you dnt know how 2 take note from a lecture you wnt do well (copying PP info is NOT taking notes). Read book 10% ?s are from reading
She is helpful if you diligently go to her office hours, her study guides are straight forward but you have to diligently study from notes and book especially. The online practice tests and quizzes are very helpful in preparing for the tests. She also uses some of the online ?'s in her exams, which gives double advantage. I missed a C by 1%...
Doesn't really do attendance. She has attendance papers just so she can give you credit for being there. Lots of reading. And assignments are online and once you hit the answer there's no changing it. Study all of the study guide. Take informative notes in class and refer back to it for study guides. The essay questions on the test are on SG
She really knows her subject. She gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. If you read the book, and not fall asleep during the lecture, you'll pass.
Professor Unpack is a decent teacher. She enjoys yelling and speaking very loudly during lectures (very annoying at times). If you don't know much about politics(which I dont) this may be a difficult class. If you want to pass you must read the chapters, do the online homework, and attend class lectures.
One of the best professors I've ever had. If you're even remotely interested in politics her lectures are interesting and she is so passionate about the subject it keeps you engaged. Don't just sit in the back quietly though!
The class is basically made up of tests and quizzes. You rack up points by scoring high on them and you do online homework assignments. It's pretty tough to just pass purely on listening to her lectures, you gotta read the text and study hard.
The class is boring and the grading method will have you worried all semester but there is a lot of room for extra credit so if you do most things you will pass easy.
Honestly horrible teacher, she does online homework very easy but when it comes to her test, her test questions seems simple BUT when she gives feedback its like she expects more than what shes asking so then she gives horrible scores. she gives extra credit but honestly i felt like it didn't help. She takes about 3 weeks or longer to grade.
I would NOT recommend this teacher. Very knowledgeable BUT Not helpful, NEVER emails you back, LAZY grader.I felt like she honestly can care less if a student passed or not. Her test are confusing because she grades so hard. She brags about not having kids so i feel like she doesn't understand students and expects more than expected from this class
She uses the online platform to give you the texts to read. There is no actual book.
Professor Unmack is a sporadic teacher, both in lecturing and grading. She takes forever to post up grades and most of her grading is inconsistent. On the other hand, she offers a lot of extra credit (but could probably be because she's too lazy to grade and just wants everyone to pass)... Expect alot of reading in this class if you want 2 pass.
Reading some of these reviews makes me wonder if we are even talking about the same teacher? Unmack is one of the best professors I've ever had! She's sooooo passionate about what she teaches and actually inspired me to take more pols classes! I'm a pretty lazy student but this class was not hard to keep up with. Only 4 tests in total. GREAT CLASS!
Dr. Unmack is a fantastic professor. She gives great lectures and facilitates thought provoking discussion, just an overall sweet and respectful teacher. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities and points for showing up. Tests are fair in difficulty. Just study your notes, do the reading, show up, and youll do fine. Like any class. She's a doll.
loved her class, i learned a ton about constitutional rights. shes a very nice professor and is very pleasant to listen to during lectures because she explains things very clearly. if youre a decent writer youll do fine on the tests. she also gives a study guide that will help you earn an A if you use it properly. overall, she's a great professor.
in one word, AMAZING she is great, knowledgeable and inspirational. take her class is awesome!!!
I needed this class for my GE. I never cared about politics. She's crazy about what is going on in the politics, and she's assuming that we know everything about the political system of the U.S. She's very late with the grading, every week we have to do a news porfolio. She doesn't give you any feedback. I wouldn't recomend her to anybody :(
We have only taken 2 exams that are essay based and 20 multiple choice. she loves what she does and explains, but with almost no homework, i can't prove to her that i know the material. she grades the exams on grammar and expects an essay for 10 questions in a matter of an hour. which is almost impossible. she is a nice person, not a great teacher.
She doesn't respond to emails. She doesn't grade your work for 2-3 weeks. You would have no idea what your grade is until two weeks after the semester ends. Her tests are very difficult. SHE IS A TOUGH grader. Everything about her is just horrible. I should have listened to others and not take this class.
Study the guides for tests, drops lowest test. Sticks to syllabus, doesn't allow late work normally. Boring lectures, but have test answers. Very passionate and gets sidetracked into class discussions.
She gets off topic a lot during lectures, she likes to ramble and talk a lot. I was bored during her lectures, if you don't like lectures every class I would not recommend. She also takes a while to grade, never saw my last 4 projects or assignment grades bc she took too long to grade them. Easy class though, never used the book and got an A.
I enjoyed Ms. Unmack for my first honors class. She kept lectures interesting, graded fairly, and made us work on a poster/paper combo which was pretty cool. I received an A and learned the content well. The only problems I personally had with the class was the grading period of assignments/exams and that she sometimes went on minor tangents.
Professor Unmack is beyond inspirational, every single class she came with a passion and love for political science!!! I would highly recommend her, she makes political science come to life in a way I never expected!!! I got more than 100% in her class!
She really is a nice professor, but I felt like she has her online class as second priority as assignments that were completed 2-3 months ago are still yet to be graded. There is loads of reading and lots of uploaded written assignments and discussion board posts. Exams are super long and very time restricted, as she expects you to know your stuff
Takes forever to grade assignments that were due 2-3 months ago, always gets off topic during lectures, 3 unit tests that has essay questions worth a lot more than multiple choice, poster presentation towards end of the semester. If POLS 320 wasnt a requirement to transfer, I wouldnt have taken it.
Her class is very difficult and I regret taking her for political theory.
Shes not a good professor at all.
This class is different. You really have to care about this topic because she really cares about it. You gotta read and be ready to use what you read in the tests since that's the bulk of the points. Her tests are not hard to pass, but you need to say lecture material and a bit of the reading. Again, You actually have to care about the subject.
lecture heavy, no homework just tests and a poster for final. tests are about cases learned in class so attendance really helps but not mandatory.
I took her online POLS 301 class and the average grade for her exams was around 65%. Her exams are super hard to pass and she's a very tough grader. She also never responded to any of the emails for the help that I sent her. You never know your actual grade in the class because it takes her 2-3 weeks to grade a simple assignment. Wouldn't recommend
Do not take this professor. You will be succumbed by a loads of work and there will be at least 4 chapters on one single exam. Exams are heavy and she gives you no break on Thanksgiving so you have no chance to catch up. She never replies to any emails, any calls for help and grades work 2-3 weeks late so you never know how you stand in the class.
She doesnt know how to teach without going off topic, grades tests unfairly, and takes forever to grade papers.
You can never get in touch with her, assignments finished 2 months prior still haven't been graded, she expects you to know all of the material on her level, all the tests are long and worded confusingly and you have about a minute per question. The tests are also worth about 100 points each with the average grade being a D.
I really like prof unmack. she grades very fairly and is very passionate about what shes teaching. the exams are very similar to the lectures and readings. she gives out a decent amount of extra credit. definitely not hard to get an A. however it does take her a bit of time to input scores and she often goes off topic when people ask questions...
Very easy online course, one chapter every week and an inquizative assessment that helps reinforce digital textbook material. Voice text for The book is available on windows and iPad. In The News assignment every other weeks but its very easy to find a news article and relate it back to the book. Almost every test and quiz answer is on google.
Prof. takes up to a month or more to grade exams & post then on canvas. So you really never know what your grade is. Her lectures are irrelevant to the exams, also 4 exams total & each worth 150 points. She takes forever to reply back to emails. Basically you're teaching the course yourselves. Prof. doesn't accept late work.
As long as you listen to the lectures, read the Court cases and their rulings with the ability to analyze them, take good notes, and once again read you will do good in her class. Her lectures are always interesting. She will keep you engaged to the lectures because she seems passionate about what she is teaching.
Prof Unmack is great. Her class is very straight forward and she does not leave her students to do a lot of guessing as to what her expectations are. I love listening to her lectures as she is very smart and knows a lot about what she is talking about. Unmack and Collihan are some of the only prof's with classes that are understandable and clear.
Difficult tests. Roundabout lectures. Skip this professor if you can.
Professor is not a good teacher. The only good thing is that there was no meetings, just do your work weekly and thats it. So many references to cases on the exams that were not mentioned in lectures. Questions on exams are always worded so that they confuse you. Takes forever to grade. Has an attitude sometimes when talking to students.
Professor didnt have mandatory meetings, just do your work weekly. There was a lot of discussions. The exams were okay, just really have to study hard. The textbook is online but expensive. Takes a while to grade assignments. Sometimes shell have 4 things due in one week, so its a lot at times. If you can find another option, take that instead!
There is no way to fail this class. She gives extra-credit if you attend her lectures. Be prepared to turn in questionnaires based on the readings she assigns. The final project is a presentation which is worth A LOT! Just make sure you turn-in writing assignments and do that final project and you will pass.
She takes months to grade so you never know what your actual grade is and the quizes are completely irrelevant from the reading. I wouldn't recommend her unless you love political science and already know a lote
You'll have to work hard to understand the material. You're expected to read 1 chapter every week on an online textbook and answer follow-up questions, do 1 news analysis discussion board every two weeks, 1 quiz every week (study hard beforehand since this isn't easy), and write a 1300-1500 words essay about your favorite government issue.
Prof Unmack was not an easy teacher but was fair. Not accepting late work was a bit of a nose turner, but allowing us to correct it after class for a better grade makes up for it. Her class is all about effort. If you try your best, there is no way to fail the class. Tests can be complex, but you'll do just fine if you follow the study guides.
Professor Unmack is great! Her work was very simplistic. You knew exactly what you needed to do and there was very minimal work. Every week there was a quiz and you need to watch videos and the quiz followed the videos exactly. There were no surprises. Chapter reading every week and there's no final.
In this class, there was no direct teacher-student interaction. You must buy the online textbook to be able to do the homework, which was 2 chapters per week with A LOT of work within the textbook. Quite a hefty course load. You need to dedicate a lot of time to complete this course online. (especially if it is a half semester class) Mixed feelings
The study guides recommended by the teacher are not helpful for passing the class as they are not based on the exams and have long, complicated questions that are difficult to remember. This can be frustrating for students trying to succeed in the class.
Professor Unmack awesome! I learned a lot. I took her online eight week class, which was definitely a good choice. There is no final or big exams in the eight week course, just weekly quizzes on lecture/youtube topic videos. The textbook is very interactive and you have to answer questions throughout which helped me actually learn and stay engaged.
Unmack's class can be hit or miss. The textbook is helpful, but the study guides aren't great. Attend lectures, use unstuck ai, and you'll do well.
I have taken her twice. I just can't help but dislike this class. Uses the Soomo online textbook which keeps you engaged but it is very time-consuming (get ready for 2-3 hours of clicking through a textbook) BUT it will teach you things. Her quizzes are based on her video lectures and she grades HARD. News Analysis every week as well (small essay)
Homework every week that literally is so heavy it takes hours on hours to complete. PROCTORED tests weekly that are worth 5x more than the hw. No notes, no grace, no late work, hardly any extra credit. This professor is strict and this course will suck the life out of you. This is the heaviest class ive taken throughout my entire college career.
Get ready to take MULTIPLE NOTES, quizzes and studies!! I took an 8 week course on accident and wow, big mistake! Don't do it. I recommend to just take a normal full course. At least you have more time to study and do other things. Lastly, I hope you're great at taking notes or memorizing…
prof unmack's class will definitely teach you things, but be prepared to fight if you want an a. quizzes choose the most random obscure things from each weekly module so youll get to know the material very well (but still get 75-80% on each max). there is one opportunity for ec and its not worth much. the soomo textbook took years off my life.
Assigns too much before tests and doesn't even allow notes.
The professor keeps assigning way too much material and has too many expectations for an 8-week GE course. The quizzes do not match the assigned material and are unfair. You must pay for an online textbook course to access the homework and then watch lecture videos and podcasts. It's more like a US history course than a political science course.
Taking her online was very difficult, she is a tough grader, and the work is long. You really got to set aside like a good 2-3 hours for this class. I hear in person she is better but do not know for sure.
