He's super nice. He's got pretty hard exams but he's mainly trying to get you to learn how to deal with university.

He explains concepts on the BISC 101 Lab throughly. One of the nicest professors! He is serious in lectures, but very approachable otherwise. The lab tests were pretty tricky though. READ Lab Taping Scripts, etc. WELL!!

I agree, one of the best profs at SFU. He should be teaching BISC 101 instead of Dr. Palsson. His lab exams are very tricky, though. Read and try to memorize everything in the taping scripts and diagrams.

Excellent teacher, flexible, friendly and helpful. I was sick and missed his lab test and he was very kind -- he let me remake it early in the morning before the first exam shift.

This prof is one of the best I hv so far. He is very helpful and friendly. He is very nice to every ppl. If u hv anything that u don't understand, don't hesitate to ask him. He will be very happy to answer ur question.

Yes, totally agree with what you guys said. He is really an excellent professor that I have never met in Simon Fraser University before, eventhough I am taking this course right now.

Well Dr. Thong is a nice guy but the course is not easy AT ALL. I took this class as my elective and it the biggest regret in my life! The time and effort you put in this course just don't worth it. After all it's just a 100 level course. Doesn't matter who's teaching it, dont' take the course unless you HAVE TO.

his tests don't measure what you actually know. i always heard him talk about the students that didn't do well. and i guess he could be helpful, but there is no point because his tests are unreasonable. don't take this class if you dont' have to. it's only going to bring your gpa down.

are you guys serious??? his tests were soo hard. his lectures are really easy to follow and clear but the tests are nothing like the lectures.

His labs are quite fun. Except for rat dissections. Exams are rather difficult, with tricky choices. Most people pass though, so it's not too bad. Very helpful in the lab, also some helpful TA's too

funny professor. Some labs are quite fun. But his exmas are tricky...I thought I did alright on them.;..but by looking at the result, I was shocked. But he's very helpful. Go to him and ask him if you have a quesiton. He'll gladly help you!(even when you don't ask, when you look like you need help, he will help you )

Impressively organized labs/lab exams! Really knowledgable and Friendly instructor. Always open to questions. Sometimes labs may seem redundant to attend lab, but Just do it because things you can only learn first-hand in lab are bound to show up on exam. Plus you always learn something interesting in lab not in the script.

Extremely friendly and nice. Soooo helpful and passionate about bio. For a first year class, extensive amount of work. Exams really hard. I studied for 3-4 days, still feel I really knew my stuff, but got a D on the lab exam! Need to know info INSIDE AND OUT! MC questions written in a very tricky manner

He is extremely helpful! If you ask questions during lab, he is really willing to help and and even though you don't need help, he comes up and explains to you further. Very organized lab, exams, posts up most of the models and slids that you have seen in the lab. BUT study HARD on exam because he picks every little details!!

Dr Thong is one of the best biology professors i've had so far...really good notes and explanations..hahah ended up with a B+..u gotta work really hard though..esp for the lab exams.read the taping scripts and do the qns asked..^^if u want Thong as your prof..take bisc 101 is the Summer..

Awesome prof! His lab manual was really thorough, and I did ok studying off it even though I hardly ever went to the labs. His exams are really picky... make sure you study every single little detail in the lab manuals.

SUPER AWESOME prof. He's really clear in his explanations and cracks jokes once in a while. His exams are tricky, but all the info is in his teach scripts.

He is very helpful when you ask him questions. His lab exams are hard BUT if you read the lab carefully (at least once) you will do fine on them. Don't expect to get high marks if you are not studying hard.

course requires a lot of reading/studying of notes, lab script and a bit of the text...really helpful and explains materials and concepts really well...highly recommended =)

His midterm was so easy. His lab midterm was so tricky. His final was so hard. I got A-, but I studied thrice as much as the course that I got A+ from.

I really like him!! He seems to know a lot of information and explains it well and stays on topic and lets us know what is important. I dont even fall asleep in his early morning classes .. I recommend him too..

he is one of the best profs at sfu with out a doubt in my mind if you talk with him and ask questions (maybe read a little) you will find the class a lot easier then staying quite and leaving the lab early only to have to read everything when the test comes professor thong is definitively good FTW !!!

Lab midterms are fair and is very helpful during labs.

All you need to do is listen in class, TAKE NOTES which he will provide on the overhead and study them! His way of teaching is simple but that's also the best part of it. His exams are straightforward! You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure them out, cause they are directly from the notes like "copy and past".

The course has a lot of info to cram into the noggin... too many wanna be doctors in the course

Was lab instructor, lab manual extremely important. Midterm and final extremely difficult unless you have photographic memory. Enthusiastic and helpful. Strongly encouraged to go to open labs so that it sticks in the brain, and read over teaching script over and over again while studying.

Lab instructor. Insanely hard incomprehensible weird questions and not much chance to practise that kind of question. None in actual lab. Results in unfair testing situation. Depressingly confusing, even though I did above average.

Welcomes questions. I was top 15% in class. However, lab questions insanely hard. Spent hours studying but still not enough. Some questions are very tricky. they seem simple but he adds something in them that makes the answer false. Have to be VERY detailed studying to do well. know where everything comes from and where it goes. Skip lab = fail.

Extremely open to helping students in lab. The lab midterm/final is very fair - everything you need to know can be found in the teaching script, so make sure you study it well. Attended 2/10 of the labs but still did fairly well on the lab exams.

I work as a biologist. If you are interested in a career in this domain, you should take this course with him (if he hasn't retired yet). You have a lot of support and time to learn the required contests and you can consult about the lecture material as well. He is there to help you, not to get you through. That's your job. Welcome to University!
