He is an amazing professor, definitely take him if you are majoring in something related to Management, Economics, Business, etc. Note: Beware if you are taking it as an elective because the workload in this class is insane.
If you are interested in business bootcamp experience, please take this course with him. It is fast paced but class is very applicable to real world, so you leave the class learning a lot. The professor is very inspiring and driving. The lectures are very engaging.
Amazing Professor! Very funny and engaging. Teaches you applicable real-world skills that are unique to other classes. Attendance is not mandatory, but it will hurt you if you don't show up. Don't be late to class!
The professor puts in extra time to make sure the projects are ready for GAME DAY!
High stress class, but also high reward in content and skills learned
This is by far one of the most useful class I took so far at Davis. It will honestly prepare you for corporate life. Professor Cyrus will be hard on you but he just wants you to do your best. Lecture is very interesting and inspiring even through the 3 hrs. But be prepared to spend a lot of time and energy in this class. It's hard but very doable.
Not only is Cyrus knowledgeable, but he is one of the most inspiring and realistic Professors I've ever had. He teaches such complex frameworks that prepare the students for a future career/profession.
One of the best classes I have taken. Valuable for the real world so don't graduate without it. 40% is your final presentation so contribute to your group. Get comfortable with non-linearity and confusion. Cyrus brings incredible structure to the course but the content is tough. Give yourself time to learn and don't be afraid to keep going!
Cyrus is not academic and thinks on the feet, shares real life simple to complex examples for learning and his classes are engaging.
Taking this upper elective with Cyrus as a freshman had taught me what he always says, "Experience is overrated." He definitely pushes you beyond your comfort zone and helps you rethink the world in frameworks. Take this if you want to learn how to apply complex business frameworks that are applicable EVERYWHERE.
Go into this class ready to be a completely different person when you finish. Learning from Cyrus is a huge opportunity for personal growth, so go in with the right mindset and be ready to really apply yourself. His teaching style unconventional, but its purposeful in teaching his students to think on their feet and adapt.
The professor is very knowledgeable on the subject. During lectures, his examples and questions help to drill in the concept of frameworks. His teaching method is to prepare students for the real world, putting students in uncomfortable situations and pressure. Therefore, his responses to questions and answers can be very straightforward.
I learned a lot about the industry and my own personal work ethic through this class. Every assignment and lecture became an opportunity to apply the things you learned. The group project was a lot of work, but I learned a lot more about research and analysis. Class is extremely engaging.
Cyrus is an amazing professor! Don't let his personality scare you, he wants all of his students to learn real-world business skills and succeed! A must-take if you have any interest in business or just want to take a non-typical class. This class is a big time commitment so be prepared to meet with your group often outside of class and contribute
Professor Cyrus is really great! In the first class, he's trying to scare us by being really harsh, but he's actually really nice. Though the class is really intense, but the content is all very useful in both my career and personal life. He's also humorous and caring during the class. Recommended
While Professor Cyrus may seem intimidating, he's actually a really good intense professor because he cares about your learning and really wants to mimic what the real business world is like. Ofc this is an MGT class so you will meet with your group around 2-4 times a week. This is my 5th MGT class and it's the most time-consuming but worth it!
I appreciate the way his course is organized & impactful, it feels that it was the best decision to take his course. I learned a lot of things in the class and look forward to applying MGT frameworks in my life. I want to take this course again and again, because it never feels enough and makes you learn new things every time! Thank you Prof Cyrus!
Prof. Cyrus is an incredibly passionate and experienced lecturer. The course offers insights into the real-world dynamics and strategies for success in the business world. You also learn practical tips and techniques for securing THE job. While the workload is demanding, requiring significant time and effort, the overall experience is rewarding.
One of the greatest professors I have had! Truly cares about his students, sometimes a little bit direct, but always gives valuable insight not only about course content, but about professional prospects! This class can be a heavy workload, but don't leave Davis without it! You really get what you put into this class!
Great professor! Will definitely take it again.
Make sure to participate!
Very practical and important subject matter for real world business problems.
Good class, great professor, diffrent teaching style
One of the most respected and knowledgeable professors at UC Davis.
I was a little hesitant of Professor Cyrus for the first few classes of the quarter, but soon realized he is probably one of the best teachers in all of UC Davis. He was supportive and also engaged with the class during lecture. Great teacher.
Prof Cyrus cares and has a very unique, interesting, & memorable way of teaching and implementing critical life changing material. Take his classes!!
Great lecturer--highly recommended for students who want to self-reflect and improve themselves. Don't take if you're content to be stuck in your comfort zone.
Great professor & great advice given. Honestly one of the best professors at this college. May be intimidating at first or overall but that makes you push yourself to be better. Great humor.
Not only does he give you guidance throughout the course, he also gives real life advice. Amazingly lecturer and have definitely gain confidence throughout this course.
This professor was HANDS DOWN the best professor I took at UC Davis. He took every single student out of their comfort zones and his content was applicable to the real world. He was very accessible during his office hours where he would buy the students food while you can talk to him about anything.
Awesome!
The professor is amazing and inspirational, great lecture!! Assignments, midterm and final are HARD, even with a team. The course is challenging but you will learn so much!!! Highly recommend!
He is a goated prof. He keeps it real and has amazing lectures. He is hard, can be lots of work at times and stressful but is def one of the best classes and professors at UC Davis. He makes the class fun and interactive. Take him again if possible. Cyrus cares about your success and wants you to be successful in life.
Most useful class I have taken here at UC Davis. Definitely recommend everyone to take this regardless of major.
Amazing professor. Get to learn so much. Must take this class.
Amazing lectures, would 100% take again
professors and TA genuinely put in effort and if you are willing to invest yourself into the class you'll learn and gain advice that you don't learn in school. You'll learn through experience and doing which is the most valuable in my opinion
The things you learn in this class and from Cyrus are paramount for anyone, regardless of major. Cyrus is not your typical lecturer, and makes lessons engaging and brings in real-world applications that make the course fun and not feel like work. Exams are group-based and very team-heavy, but if you work together the workload is light. Many A's
The class is fun and interactive but also very stressful. This is a new type of teaching I wish other professor do more often.
Extremely interactive lectures and discussions. Not very theoretical so you can apply the concepts he teaches.
Exceedingly stressful class, probably too stressful, so beware. However, this was by far the most engaging and interesting class I've taken in four years at Davis. I've learned some extremely valuable skills that I would have not learned otherwise.
He actually cares about your growth and success in life. That's the highest compliment I could give any UC Davis professor. If you're taking MGT 150 or MGT 120, take it with Cyrus. It will be hard no matter what but it's always worth it in the end.
Easily my favorite class I've taken at Davis. Do yourself a favor and put in the work, even go above and beyond that. You'll be rewarded more than just a grade.
While many of the concepts in the class were intuitive, working with groups for the whole class and being put on the spot made it difficult. I was put out of my comfort zone and walked away with greater confidence about my abilities. It can be difficult to know exactly what will matter during grading due to the open-ended nature of the assignments.
This class is rewarding but very difficult. The material you learn is very valuable but upfront the class looks and feels intimidating. I recommend going to office hours to get better and more focused help with some of the concepts.
Professor Cyrus is definitely a hard professor to learn from. He expects you to put in effort for this team-based course. Listen to his words of advice and you will do great in his class. Attendance isn't mandatory but it is free participation points and it's best to attend to learn from him.
Planning to take another class from him next quarter, super rewarding class!
If you are an introvert, please don't take this class. Cried three times because of the unreasonable grading. It does not matter how much you learned, but more about your personality...(Also, he wanted you to write the rate my prof and gave him a 5. )
The materials taught in this class are important. But extremely intense teaching style.Indeed, in the real world we might unfortunately meet people who are very difficult to deal with. But it's unnecessary to "intentionally" make urself difficult to talk to. The goal of the class is to learn the material not to learn to deal with one single person.
Great class, must-take. Doesn't matter your major tbh. Caring man, does it with passion. Difficulty depends on your team. Work well with them? 4/5 difficulty. Difficult team with few good members? 5/5 and make you cry. But those tears will grow a flower of passion that will bloom beautifully.
Definitely the best professor at UC Davis!!!
Don't be late to class!! This is a very challenging course but it will teach you real life business issues and solutions. This class alone taught me more things that I can use in my future than any other class I've take in my school career. I used some of the information that I learned from class for my interviews and I haven't looked back.
This course is an emotional rollercoaster, reflecting real-world challenges like team dynamics and setbacks. It teaches resilience, embracing failure as a catalyst for growth. The frameworks push you to think in new ways to problem-solving skills. Embrace the journey, be proactive, take ownership, and don't fear failure. It's all part of the ride.
Great professor. He is tough, but not as hard as people make him out to be. He just wants to hold people accountable and help people grow in a tough-love kind of way. I recommend 2 team meetings a week and being open to feedback. Your going to get grilled by Cyrus regardless, so keep your head up.
This class will be unlike any class that you have at Davis. Cyrus cares about his students and pushes you to work very VERY hard. If you want to learn something impactful and beneficial to anything in everyday life take this class. It will be a LOT of work and stress if you really want to succeed, but it is worth learning. By far the hardest class.
Okay, everyone said in the beginning of the quarter that this class would be time consuming but it is actually as bad as everyone said it would be. It is doable, meet with your team irl twice a week, know your frameworks, have a good team, and you will be good. Cyrus was a great professor and you learn a lot. my fav class by far in my whole college
Professor Cyrus Aram's courses are group project based and much more intensive workload than other Davis courses. For MGT 120 when compared to 150, I found much less inspiring, I felt like I was not learning as much, and the extra work did not contribute to my learning this time around. I still would take him again, but with a different curriculum.
If you cannot do networking in this class, you are in trouble If you get marginalized by the group, you will have a hard time Cyrus Aram evaluates students and will ignore those he believes are unimportant, some students in this class will be sacrificed just because of their personality
Grind hard and enjoy
Tough Love style of teaching. You learn a lot in this class but expect a lot of work.
Cyrus is a nice guy when your project is going in the right direction. If not, he will give you guidance, but will tell you to pick up the pace. Stay on top of work and work with your teammembers and you'll have a great quarter!
Great professor and good intentions in mind for his students. Sometimes over commits but tries his best to make time for everyone
A great professor who pushes the teams above and beyond the undergraduate level of learning.
GUYS TAKE THIS CLASS. i came into this class because i was interested in consulting but left with a multi-dimensional set of skills that will help me after college. he teaches you to think and genuinely wants you to succeed. you won't find another professor like this
Man, what can i say, really insane lectures
Be ready to put in the work for this class. You will get out as much as you put in and if you do put in the work you will learn a lot. Besides the coursework, this class is good for networking and general career prep.
He really cares about his students and gives guidance when you need it, this class is a lot of work but you learn a lot.
Professor Cyrus really cares about the class and it shows. It is a hard class but you will learn a lot. If you want an easy A this is not for you. Overall, I would take again as I have learned a lot this quarter.
Great Professor, but extremely difficult. 120 is much harder than 150
Best class I've taken at UCD. The class and the professor is definitely not easy but it's not meant to be. He'll call you out if you miss the mark but will always praise you when you succeed. What you take away from the class is proportionate to how much you give the class.
Very Rewarding class, however would be very difficult if you did not have a hard working group.
The most insightful/career-related class at Davis. Never learned so much more in my time here, and Cyrus is so passionate about what he teaches. He is intimidating at first but going to OH makes him seem more approachable and he even remembers my name now haha. Group project is a LOT of time-commitment but fulfilling at the end when it all clicks!
Tough class in terms of meeting with groups and lecture material but overall is a class you will grow in regardless of your major. If you have a heavy course load or time-dense quarter I would wait to take it when you have time.
The classes are very interactive, he encourages people to leave their comfort zones, and he makes you think critically. The class is very group heavy and WILL require ALOT of time outside lectures. There's so much potential to get a job and do really well after college. This guy even got the mayor to visit us! He sets you up for success! Take it!
Engage with Cyrus! That's your best way of learning and accelerating in your career. This class was my first introduction to a business class and environment and it's a class that pushes me to try and do better in my life. The effort you put into this course is the reward you reap.
Cyrus is an inspirational leader. He is hard on you because he wants you to change the world. This is the single best class I have every taken, not only have I made priceless connections with my team members but also with executives and potential employers! If you are willing to work, there is not a class at Davis that will provide you more value!
Cyrus is a great professor who keeps lectures engaging and knows what he is doing. There is a large emphasis on the quarter group project, which is very time-consuming and requires a lot of work, however, the course content and lessons learned throughout the quarter are extremely valuable and are extremely applicable in a professional setting.
great material and lectures, super informative
I found this class to be extremely engaging but it was super challenging too. The first day of class was intimidating but I walked out feeling inspired and ready for the quarter. If you're a hard worker, you'll love this class. Cyrus is super inspirational, knows a lot about the real world and wants to help, but he shows this through tough love.
i would recommend taking this class. you'll learn a lot of practical skills. it's a big time commitment so maybe consider taking it another quarter if you don't have time to meet up outside of class.
The class is super intense, but offers a lot of real world and practical skills. Be ready to spend a lot of time working on your project outside of class (he has mandatory office hours). But the whole class is in teams and group work.
The grading is tough and a lot of time outside of class is needed. Having a good group makes a difference for the group project. Although it's tough, Professor Cyrus does care about his students.
Great professor, be prepared to put the time in for group projects. Make use of the TAs ask them many questions and ask Cyrus for help when possible as well. (Cyrus kinda looks like Joe from impractical jokers)
He tends to interrupt you.
Tough professor, but definitely cares about you and your future
Prof Cyrus is fun and well respected. However his feedback on your work is confusing and leaves your team with watery directions. This class seems to be life changing but it really is just busy work. If you are one of those nerds that likes "Suits" you will like the class.
Professor Cyrus is an amazing professor, one of the best I have had at Davis. Highly recommend taking his classes. In the beginning, it may seem like he is hard and does not like any work you are doing, but he just wants your best.
I found this class invigorating but challenging as well. The first day of class I was intimidated but I walked out ready to learn. Cyrus is extremely knowledgable and wants to help everyone, but shows this through tough love. If you work hard with an open mind, you'll love this class.
Although this class is time consuming and a commitment, with a good group and good company for your project it's doable. I really enjoyed this class, Prof Cyrus is so funny and engaging.
If you're prepared to enter the next phase of your personal development and acquire the essential tools to apply in real-world scenarios or professional settings, this is the class for you. It may be demanding, challenging, and high-stress, but the educational benefits are immeasurable.
He really cares about his students and wants everyone to do well not just in his class but in life. The class is a lot of time and effort and can get really frustrating but it feels great when you finally get it. He changes his ideas semi-often which can get annoying but that's the real world. It's a really helpful class and I'm so glad I took it.
At the end of the year my score was a 82% yet I ended up with a C because if the grading curve. I was curved down and ended up with a bad score due to bad grading policies. Avoid taking Prof. Cyrus there are so many bet Prof.
I did learn from this class, but 84/100 is curved to a C+ in letter grade.
Participation, do your best, do not slack off.
Be prepared to dedicate time outside of class to learning the content thoroughly. Although Cyrus may appear strict, he truly wants everyone to know and understand the frameworks (even if it means failing). You learn a lot from Cyrus and his perspective on life, and I would take the chance to have him as your professor or coach.
Cyrus is easily the best professor I have had at UC Davis, I took 120 and 150 with him and both times I walked out of the class with so many new ideas to use not only in my other courses but the rest of my life. 10/10 I would recommend anyone doing MGT classes to take him. You can tell he truly cares about every one of his students.
The most important part is participation in class
I believe Cyrus truly cares about his students. I have never been in a class where I felt the professor was really trying to get to know the students while teaching. I truly believe that if you haven't taken a class from Cyrus, you need to do it because it changes your perspective on the education system and how to learn. Amazing class.
great professor
Crazy, useful
be ready to learn and be prepared to discuss in class.
This is a tough class so be ready. Always be on your toes and be prepared to participate. This is not a class to zone out in or to lag on your team in the group project. Expect to dedicate a lot of time to this class and for your group project. I took this class during summer and did not take any other class - and it was still super time-consuming.
Don't show up late on the first day!!
I like suits too
Pretty Cool, don't show up late -Showed up Late
This class may be listed at 4 units, but the amount of work ends up being 10 units especially with group projects. This is a really hard class, but by far the most helpful class I have taken here. If you are willing to work REALLY hard to learn the secrets of the universe, would totally take this class! My recommendation is to always ask questions!
Tough professor, but that is what makes him so great. He pushes every student to be the best version of themselves.
Extraordinary professor. His lectures are great. Lot of real time examples and he helps students to understand the concept better. He is really good at this. Please take this course you will get better.
Tough-love , the best kind of love when you receive it from a respected Professor. Would take again as you learn so much about yourself and the real world !
He is a very responsible professor who really cares his students. And his teaching is a very high level of education for changing the world. You can feel the important of this lecture by him.
Cyrus is scary but he is such an amazing professor. He will grill you but you will be better for enduring the class. He is straight forward and quick. He is my favorite professor by far during my entire undergraduate experience.
He will push you and sometimes it might make you want to drop but stick it out. He helps push your project forward and get you to see it differently. If you don't put in the work he will know 100%
the workload is heavy, and content-wise will probably be useful in the future. this class is a lot about real-life problems so frameworks can be a bit hard to apply at first. teamwork is important. make sure to meet in-person and meet a lot throughout the week to get assignments and project done.
Really good professor. Hard but definitely beneficial. Would 100% take again.
fire professor. inspriational
The professor does a great job at teaching. No other experience like it. The class is focused on helping you get jobs and provides some real-world experience.
Hard class with some useful frameworks
Most perfect professor I've had at Davis in the 3 years here. Rigourous, useful, applicable for the real world and will offer guidance and direction most other teachers are too apathetic to do. Extremely useful class with a lot of direction and teaches on how to apply frameworks, real life applications on how to understand processes around us.
as long as u participate in your group and attend lectures ur good. not an easy class if you don't put in the effort
Humorous and fun
This professor is tough on you because he cares. You'll definitely get something out of this class but you have to put the work in. Tons of group work, making it feel like an 8 unit class. Feels rewarding and satisfying at the end.
Cyrus spent 2.3k on a pizza party for us. this guy is the goat. On a serious note, I have never learned so much in a class before this was absolutely life changing and I HIGHLY recommend taking this class if you want to learn.
If you want to succeed, you take Cyrus' class. The only downside is your teammate but you learn how to manage incompetent and unmotivated teammates overtime. Just remember to do the work, grind, and not give up. If you are not seeing results, it is simply because your mindset is wrong and you are not working hard enough.
Just take him. Invaluable learning experience.
Despite Professor Cyrus being extremely tough and strict in terms of the work we produce and participation, he pushes us to exceed expectations and really explore the business aspects of the real-world. This class isn't necessarily a 'regular' class as it's very intense all 10 weeks of the quarter but I truly learnt a lot from it.
- great lecturer - high intense workload - very group heavy
Honestly, he was a very inspirational professor and made me rethink what I wanted to do in my life. With that being said, he is an extremely tough guy, class is based on 2 quizzes, 2 group homework assignments, group midterm and final group presentation. This class is A LOT of work, but so worth it.
This class gets real. You don't just go through the motions of every day life outside of college but you'll experience it to the fullest. This class is a simulation of having a job in the real world and working with teams, so be prepared to deal with everything and everyone. Be mindful that the work in this class feels more than a 5 unit course.
What an amazing professor! The class is EXTREMELY DIIFFICULT! It will challenge all that you know about work, motivation, and team effort. HOWEVER, if you stick with it, GRIND, and remember that all Cyrus wants for you is success in the real world, YOU WILL SUCCEED, even if your grade may not be a high as you wanted. This class is a Job Facotry!
Good professor, but the class is a lot of heavy group work.
This professor is really hard on his students, so that we can learn. His number one priority is his students and to prepare them for the workforce. Although this class was at 9AM on a Friday, it was exciting to come each week and get to learn real life frameworks that have helped people in my class land full time jobs.
Prof. Cyrus is not going to treat you like a student. He is here to teach you, but you are here to teach yourself. For a few notes, I would make sure to compare your work to the work of past classes, which he provides, and steal their layouts. Also come to class and LOOK at HIM while he's teaching. Finally, figure out team dynamics early.
Great professor, but need to put in a lot of work and time each week. As long as working it hard, you can get a good grade.
Professor Cyrus really cares about the students and will go out of his way to make sure they get the help they need. TAs are accessible by text.
A great professor with lots of knowledge and is willing to assist students in real world topics as well. He is well prepared and has a great way of teaching without making lectures boring. 10/10 recommend
Great professor, cares about his students and his class. If you put in effort and participate you will do well- It just takes up a lot of time.
Cyrus is a very unique professor that gives very engaging lectures. He made me enjoy the process of learning again.
Insane expectations and Cyrus really pushes you but he's doing it to truly help his students. Drove me insane as a team lead with low performing group members but I can definitely see the benefit that having a solid group can provide from this class. I really grew as a person nonetheless with all of the pressure. TA's were also very supportive.
Thank you Professor Cyrus for everything it has been a pleasure being in MGT 120 Fall Quarter of 2024. I will take what I learned beyond my time here at UC Davis
Cyrus is a character. He cares a lot, you'll learn a lot, but you might get a little lost along the way.
Be prepare to treat the class as a part-time job outside of lectures.
He was a great teacher, very enthusiastic, very knowledgable. The lectures may seem long but he uses real world scenarios which makes them interesting. The group project on one topic of your choice which you master by the end of the quarter, that being said many many hours need to go into the class outside of lecture time if you want to do well.
The class is very group-oriented. Hopefully, you get a good group. Cyrus is VERY intense and in your grill about things but it is clear that he is one of the most caring professors at Davis. The amount of effort he puts into his classes and lectures is crazy. Pay attention in this class because it is very useful for interviews and job searches.
This definitely needs to be an 8-unit class... so much work needs to be done and so many group meetings
A lot of work goes into the class! It has pushed me outside of my comfort zone.
Extremely hard on you, but for the right reasons. Don't take anything personally, he won't remember you after this anyways.
Cyrus is the most engaging professor who has the ability to keep you wanting to learn his content. It wasn't a boring lecture. Here at Davis there are not too many professors who take the time to show and actually demonstrate they care for us as students. this class is needed for someone who is feeling unmotivated about school or anything in life.
MGT120 was probably the most useful class I've taken at UC Davis BY FAR- the material that Cyrus teaches is actually applicable to the real world and although this class can get very stressful and time consuming, Cyrus really cares about his students and is harsh so that we can improve (lots of team work and OHs but very worth it!!)
One of the best professors/classes I've had at UC Davis! His feedback is honest & slightly harsh but incredibly valuable. I wish I'd realized this earlier in the quarter to better utilize him as a resource. MGT 120 only meets weekly, but I learned more here than in other classes. Group projects can be tricky--meet with your team often in person!
Hard class, but the thing you learn about problems in different systems, psychology in business, and pain points through the frameworks helps to expand your knowledge and land you jobs.
This prof is good at lecturing complex topics and providing real world examples on it. The discussions weren't as helpful and I wish they weren't mandatory but they were ok. Get ready to put in a lot of work, especially towards the end of the quarter on your final presentation. The class gets less scary after week 2.
Will try to scare you out of the class in the first weeks. He will still be hard on you throughout the quarter but is trying to make sure you are understanding and on the right pathway. He is like a football coach trying to push to be your best.
I would never have this class taught by anyone else besides Cyrus Aram, he is the one that is able to make all the hard choices, to sound harsh in order to push you, to structure such a challenging class that forces you to devote yourself; it's all a reflection of him and his love for us as the rising generation.
This professor employs a unique teaching style which promotes participation and a deep understanding of the material. He uses real world cases to apply the concepts to and offers practice to garner a thorough understanding of the concepts. The concepts are carried through the term, so even by the end of the term, you still know all the concepts.
Hands down the best professor I have ever had. He makes classes enjoyable, he's incredibly passionate, and he brings so much energy fun to. Deliverables are mostly every week but they're amazing frameworks that genuinely prepare you for your career. There are 2 quizzes and 1 presentation. The best part of the class is the lectures—DO NOT MISS THEM!
ngl i subconsciously viewed him as a father figure - is very direct with criticism but that's because he genuinely wants you to achieve your best. feedback to your group project was sometimes inconsistent but overall helpful. lessons learned in this class are VERY applicable to real life and whatever career you might choose.
One of the only professors at UC davis that prepares you for the real world, the class is not an easy A though you will have to put in a lot of time and work with assigned groups and often have to redo your work over and over till you get it right but it is to help you learn.
10/10 Amazing professor. You will not regret taking this class! Yes the first day can be VERY intimidating, however don't drop the class, it will get better. Professor Cyrus really cares for his students and will work you guys to the bone - not because he's mean, but because he cares and knows students can succeed.
Bottom line, Cyrus cares, much more than any other professor I have encountered in my 4 years. From engaging lectures to real-world interactive learning, he has pushed me beyond what I thought my capabilities were. Quite frankly, I believe this class, as well as MGT 150 should be required for all students to take - the lessons you learn are unique.
Cryus knows what he is doing. He will help you get to where you need. Everyone needs to be there and do the work. Apply these frameworks to your everyday life and you might succeed from it. Also make sure to go to office hrs with cryus, especially the pizza one.
He's really tough the first two weeks but it's really just an act he's a cool guy, very good lecturer and super engaging so even though our class was super early in the mornings his energy helps wake you up. You HAVE to be very involved with your group project, otherwise you're just going to be deadweight for your team and piss them off.
The professor seems intimidating at first and you may want to drop the class in the beginning, but despite how hard this class is, it teaches valuable information that applies to the real world. His knowledge and determination to help students learn and succeed is evident. This course has taught me so much and has also motivated me in many ways.
It's a lot of hands on learning and it's quite time consuming. I noticed that out of all of my classes I took this quarter, I spent the most time on this one just because of the demand and rigor that came with the expected work from students. Very heavy on group work as well. But overall a very meaningful and engaging class.
Incredible learning experience! Best professer!
Difficult but educational class. I came in not knowing much, struggled with other hinderances— Prof Cyrus was very understanding and took the time to explain the concepts better, whether it be using real-life applications or in-depth clarifications. Grade dependent on team, most of it is group work, meet multiple times a week OOC to ensure quality.
Professor Cyrus scared me at first, he is very intense throughout the quarter. I was gonna drop his class after the first lecture, but I decided to stay. I'm glad I stayed in his class, he teaches useful frameworks for help in future job prospects. It will be tough but if you're willing to put in the effort it's very rewarding. Lot of group work.
Meeting with your groups is essential to perform well in this class, and the professor is incredibly dedicated to the students. He is one of the best professors at UC Davis.
Cyrus' class was engaging, informative, and mostly applicable to everyday and post-graduation life. His unique style of teaching pushes students to their limits. This course will require a large amount of time outside of class to succeed and I would advise against taking MGT 120 alongside other rigorous courses.
I don't need “life-changing” advices from someone I don't look up to.
Great prof. Team was kinda the whole thing dragging it down. Pray for good team members cause you get a really mixed bunch in the class.
despite so many mixed reviews, I believe professor Cyrus' class was by far my most favourite and real-world simulation course I have taken. I would strongly recommend taking him as your professor. He has so much knowledge to give, if you are willing to take whatever in the right way! He is super accessible and helpful even outside class.
The content in his classes are unfiltered, bold, vulnerable, and real world. Content includes, real world prompts, his personal experiences and mistakes. He is able to observe what gen z's lack and centers the class around it. It covers topics that are relevant to the real world. I would take his class again in the future.
If you are sensitive and not looking to learn don't take this class. The most insightful proffesor on this campus.
Best class I've taken at Davis. Cyrus teaches in a way that encourages deep thought, real world application, and rapid individual & team growth. Everyone has the ability to succeed in the class & learn so much about yourself if you really dive deep. I recommend putting more into this class than you need to, I promise you won't regret it.
Coming from a STEM major, his teaching style was definitely a breath of fresh air. You learn alot of frameworks that you can apply even in your daily personal life to professional life. He kept us engaged even in 3hr lecture. Although a tough grader, but he means well and wants us to exceed. Recommend if you can take it, even not minoring MGT.
Cyrus is a great prof who cares about his students and the insights they take away from the course. He teaches skills that are applicable to real life and I've found myself using the things I learned in my other classes & it will definitely be usefull when for future jobs. This course is tough and I put in a lot of hard work but it pays off!
He held office hours during weekends, it is not mandatory but if your group deliverable does not meet his expectations he will drop your grade by one letter. I took 3 courses last quarter but he made me feel like I took 6. If he really expects us to spend more than 20 hours working on his class then do not list the course as 4 units, it's a scam.
The first day of class, Cyrus said "We will break you and then we rebuild you." Absolutely the case. You can feel yourself being broken and rebuilt during this course. Cyrus knows what he is doing and that means you will learn but the class is incredibly difficult. You can and will learn the material but it will feel awful.
Took MGT 150 last quarter and currently in 120. Cyrus is one of the few profs that actually wants to better your skills for your future. He's the type of guy who will push you and make you sort of resent him, but when he gives you validation it's like a high. Then you realize you never resented him, he's just a g. TL;DR: fav prof at Davis.
cyrus's class is very workload heavy but you do gain a lot from being his class, participating throughout his lectures, and working with your groups. he really does care about his students and only wants the best for them.
Best professor at UC Davis. He gets us jobs!
This class applies to real life. Cryus and his TAs, especially Ravi are awesome. They are dedicated to our education and force us to grow as people. I would take this class again. Love my team!
This will be the most helpful class for you to get a JOB!!!!!!!!!!
Cyrus is the GOAT! He pushes his students because he cares, and you'll work hard because you'll care too. I took this class and I'm not even doing the full tech management minor - this class is great for anyone who wants to understand business, no matter what major or career you're pursuing.
Strengthens your grit and breadth of knowledge of the business ecosystem with incredible real world applications and skills.
Cyrus is very carrying and wants his students to succeed in life. It's a very hard class but if you push through it'll be worth it in the end.
He'll rip into your team for bad performance but he's not biased, he'll clearly state how you did poorly, show how other teams performed and try his best to elevate every single team to the absolute best possible because he wants everyone to find jobs!
This class will definitely change the way you view systemic problems. It's a class for those who appreciate tough coaches (who care but may seem like the conductor at Whiplash at times). If you are someone who is ready to put in the work, ready to cry and break down, but leave with some gem insights, take it.
Heavy course load, be ready to learn and spend a lot of time with your team to meet outside of class, mostly group project based, really fun class to cooperate and learn how to work in a real life environment
One of the best professors at UC Davis!
This class is very difficult and please do not take this for fun. This is not a good elective especially if you are a STEM major. Only take it if you want to make your miserable.
The LeBron James of UC Davis professors. The GOAT!!! Learned very important material that I'll keep in mind my whole life and use to land a job. This class was very time consuming but is well worth it and really opens your mind. As corny as it sounds, it's a class that I'll leave highly motivated and wanting more.
Be proactive with your teams and anticipate a lot of work.
Cyrus knows his stuff and expects you to put in the work. Do the work, hustle, and you will do well. If you are a team lead, make sure your team is aligned early on.
Cyrus is very knowledgeable of the subject matter and cares more than most if not all professors but the class itself is too much work for just 4 units. If the course was at least 8 units then it would be reasonable, but the workload is extreme and can make things extremely stressful if managing other courses/commitments.
Your group matters so much for this class. For the last few weeks of the course, my group met every single day for 4+ hours because of how much work we had. He is definitely tough and this class was a challenge, but you can tell that he cares about the success of his students. Beware of cold-calling and extremely harsh feedback & grading.
He is very difficult and the grading is based on his subjective criteria. This class is meant to resemble real business, so you can't argue it either. However, it is quite educational and fun IF you have a good group.
Cyrus is tough. This class is worth it, IF you apply yourself.
One of the most time-consuming classes I've ever taken. I thought about this class 24/7. Cyrus is an incredibly harsh critic, but he did teach me a lot of valuable knowledge that I know I won't ever be able to get from any other class. You will be engaged and learn a lot from him, but be prepared to work extremely hard and hear the hard truth.
only take if you want to be pushed really hard. everything about this class is difficult. nothing would have prepared me for the emotional rollercoaster that I've been through.
Tough class and Cyrus will hold you accountable but you learn valuable stuff that you can actually use in the real world. Favorite class I have taken at UC Davis over the past 4 years.
This class was very challenging but rewarding. Be prepared to spend a lot of hours with your team outside of lectures and discussions to work on homeworks and projects. If you show up, engage, and put in the work you will gain invaluable skills and do well in this class.
Overall great course, professor and TAs invest a lot into their students to ensure they get a job. But be prepared to put in a lot of time and effort to receive a good grade as they expect you to put as much effort as they are.
Cyrus is one of the toughest professors i've ever had, but has taught me the most in terms of life and business skills. This course is extremely time consuming and can be a bit discouraging, but the end result is worth it and overall rewarding. Highly recommend!
This class IS very valuable and I'll probably use the material for the rest of my life. However it SUCKEDDDD. Be prepared to put in hours and hours of work outside class and meet with your group multiple times a week irl. Took it as an elective for my statistics major, kinda regret it. Great class, wouldn't do it again T-T
Cyrus is very raw, this class is HARD but it has been so influential and valuable. I dont think theres a more extreme class than MGT 120
Cyrus's 120 class is intense. Takes HELLA work but it is definitely worth it. Cyrus is invested in his students and his class is extremely engaging and insightful. lectures are long but are not boring, it doesn't feel long. The 3 hours goes by fast. As long as you put in the work with your group you will succeed. MAKE SURE TO GRIND. CYRUS the GOAT
Prof. Cyrus is able to use personal anecdotes and real life examples to make the course all the more engaging for students. Good course overall but don't take it if you have a large workload bcs you need to put in a lot of effort with your team of 9-12 people, meeting multiple times a week. May seem like an 'easy GE' but it is not. Sleep is lost.
Took 150 with him as well but I found 120 more valuable and fulfilling. Cyrus has high expectations for everyone, but it's because he cares. Prepare for a quarter that takes a lot of effort and time, but the work is rewarding - choose a project your group is passionate about. Learned a lot through this class that I will be using in my career!
Be careful bros. You shall have tons of work to do in the class!
Cyrus is the best professor I've ever had. He is tough and truthful, but I have learned SO MUCH. The most insightful class UC Davis has to offer. Get ready to participate and get to know Cyrus and the TA's. You cannot go on "cruise control" in this class. If you apply the frameworks to the real world, you will land a job. I recommend!!!
Prof Cyrus likes to cold call and yell. He is very passionate and knowledgeable, but intimidating and the way he runs his class is anxiety-inducing. He requires lots of time commitments outside of the allotted class time, and majority of your grade is based on group work. However, this is a useful class that teaches important life skills.
AMAZING CLASS! Cyrus truly cares about his students and loves teaching. He provides meals during OH! The TA's and professor are always available to help. There's no other class like this @UCD. The lessons you learn will stay with you for life, especially in securing jobs. Be ready to work hard and stay dedicated your effort will pay off!
In this class you will learn how to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations and be able to learn from them. You will learn frameworks that can apply to everything and how to work in a team. It's a lot of work but you learn how to shift your mindset as well as understanding other's mindset.
If you lack critical thinking skills this is the class for you! Waste hours in group meetings on glorified worksheets to come to conclusions any smart person could come to with 30 seconds of thought. Watch Cyrus put on a show to motivate students & sell everyone on his "LIFE CHANGING" "frameworks". A great actor & salesman! Don't drink the Kool-Aid
He's a corporate bully and be ready to see how he CLEARLY has favorites. If you're not one of those lucky 5 favorites, good luck! There's an unreasonable amount of work that goes into this class. My team and I met 12 hours a day for an entire week leading up to the final presentation that he "gave us the answer" to and he still said it was wrong.
Super fulfilling class but also super anxiety-inducing and time-consuming. Cyrus is the scariest professor I have ever met but he genuinely cares that we learn useful material. This was definitely the hardest class I've ever taken at UCD, but also the most interesting and applicable in the real world. Prepare for long hours in the library.
he thinks being intimidating is a good teaching style, humiliates students, blatant favoritism, and is a corporate bully. Be prepared for an unreasonable amount of work that wastes your time and is just common sense. still traumatized, be prepared for emotional abuse :D!
Great class! Changed the way I look at everyday things and forced me out my comfort zone.
Cyrus is great at selling the idea of his course, but bad at teaching. Class is like watching a C-list actor audition for the role of motivational speaker, mixed with sad, rushed attempts to teach through either too simple or too complex examples (no theory). OH is his audition for the role of cutthroat executive, where he gets fake mad. Easy P/NP.
Professor Cyrus is a great professor at engaging students and making them interested in the lecture. Besides that this class is tough and a lot of your time outside of class will be dedicated to your group project.
Best professor ever had. But i will not take it again
Very clear, very hilarious examples of frameworks. All of his teachings can be applicable to the real world. Very valuable class.
Cyrus' class will take up your whole week but you will learn more than you have in any other class.
prof cyrus is an expert in his field and really harsh. prepare to grind frameworks for the next 10 weeks with this clas taking up about 20h per week. free up your schedule if you plan to take this class - but you will get a lot out of it. the most real-world and useful class i've ever taken, but oh boy is it a journey.
Scary, loud, makes me nervous. Honestly, a solid professor and truly wants you to succeed in life by breaking your spirits down. Don't be late to class, especially on the first day of class, he will crash out on you. Pray for a good group because everything is group based.
Best Class.
Cyrus has a genuine interest in preparing his students for the real business world but his methods are very intense. If you put the hard work in for 10 weeks straight you will get a good grade and be a much better business professional when you graduate.
Don't be scared to speak up in this class. This class is a lot of work but if you put in the work you'll learn valuable skills you can apply throughout life.
Cyrus's lecture is amazing but you need to do the readings. His schedule for office hour is TERRIBLE like this class is the only class you take this quarter. Cyrus himself is a FANTASTIC professor with knowledge and you definitely will learn a lot with him if you follow his pace. Would take his class again 100%
This course introduced the gaps in the real world that can be bridged with frameworks, focusing on people and process, with the understanding that tech is just a tool. It has changed my perspective, finalised my decision to go for an MBA, and allowed me to be great at conflict resolution. Professor Cyrus is contagiously intense and passionate.
Honestly the class was pretty good, however it was quite anxiety inducing at times. Cyrus really wants you to deliver high quality work. The class was definitely stressful but the acknowledgment for good work sort of countered that. Honestly just stick with it, I was planning on dropping after the first class, you'll be done with it in no time!
Cyrus is an excellent lecturer, but the content itself is very dense and heavy at times. Do not be late to his lectures and take detailed notes during lectures and discussions. Also, make sure to establish a good relationship with your team early on, as you will most likely meet together a few times a week outside of normal classroom hours.
Cyrus is a genuinely good man—I took him for only a week last year and was very concerned about his methodology. However, after this course he has completely convinced me that he is among one of those influential teachers of my career. He actively supports students by buying them food, fighting food insecurity among students. King🫡
Buckle up. Do NOT take this class if you can't dedicate at least 10-20 hours a week working on the group project. Cyrus has no filter, so if you didn't do an amazing job on the weekly deliverable be prepared for a mouthful. But I truly believe his intensity comes from a good place, he really cares about us(students) and wants us to succeed.
Professor Cyrus may come off as strict and intense, but his approach is designed to simulate the corporate world. He genuinely cares about his students and uses powerful, original frameworks that help you stand out in job interviews. The course is rigorous; expect to spend 25–30 hours a week with your team, but it's rewarding at the very end.
Cyrus was a very good professor and he is very passionate about getting his students ready for the real world. He isnt very approachable initially and he is intimidating but if youre consistent in his class and show interest, he will show interest back. Overall, a very enthusiastic professor.
I enjoyed this class but Cyrus isn't the most approachable and makes it hard to speak up in class unless you're one of the few students he likes. The material is very useful though
Professor Aram is a great teacher. He deff knows his stuff to help guide you in the rights direction. The material is very heavy on frameworks and how to apply it to the " topic" you choose. i personally do not like how we that the professor doesnt engage with the students one on one. its more of an "evaluation" of the student Then your grade.
Tough, but fair. Work is hard but its one of those classes where things you learn will follow. Things that are being pointed out in this class sounds like common sense if you speak it out loud, but if you learn and dig deeper, it's so much more complex to find it accurately. His tips, definitely do not take for granted.
This class and Cyrus have taught me more than the rest of my educational career combined. If you want to really prep yourself for the real world, take the class. It's not an easy class by any means, but the return on investment is really high! Go in with an appetite to learn and i promise you are in for such a treat.
His lecture is very difficult and tough, intense but at the same time you'll learn a lot
This class takes up so much of your time but is very rewarding. Just know what you're getting in to and don't take the class if you don't have the time for it because your group members will hate you. Cyrus is amazing though but will be tough on you if you don't pay attention or do your work right.
This class is A LOT of work... But, expect to learn a lot in this class as the material he teaches as well as how passionate he is about the course really does change your perspective. If you're willing to work hard, you should take his class^
Cyrus is super passionate about this, I learned a lot from his class and the frameworks he teaches are applicable in real life and have helped many students get jobs before, I'm also looking forward to using them in interviews and my workplace moving forward. This is a tough class but it is truly worth your time.
Be prepared to spend a lot of time on this class, it does not feel like a 4-unit course. Do not take this class if you can't carve out good chunks of time for team meetings. Do the readings and take good notes and you'll get a good grade.
Professor Cyrus is by far the best professor/mentor I have ever had, no glaze. If you take his class, understand that it is a time commitment, but the experience will change your life and how you view the world (at least that's how it was for me). Participate, learn, and grow. This class has more value than any other course at UC Davis.
I'm going to be honest, I was avoiding taking Professor Cyrus for so long. Ever since I picked up the MGT minor, I've heard from many people that he's very tough and strict, yet very insightful. Once I experienced it for myself, it's true. He's hard on you, but he's doing it because he wants you to be successful, and I really appreciated that.
This class is hard! It is time-consuming, and you can put a lot of effort into your work but still not get anywhere. Results are what matter. The professor and TAs are really helpful, and I enjoyed going to class and OH. This class requires you to meet with your group in person outside of class at least 2-3 times a week. There is free food at OH!
Very hard class! You can put a lot of effort into the class, but still not get anywhere. However, the professor and TAs are readily available and are willing to help. You have to be able to put in the work. Deliverables are due every week and 2 quizzes with the big presentation on week 10. There is free food at OH!
It's rare to meet people that will influence your life. I met two of those people through this class. Prof Cyrus and Samir(GOAT TA). This class will test you mentally. But as Cyrus said in class, when people lean in hard on you, you have to lean into it. If you're willing to push yourself then take the class. You'll learn so much for your future.
Already reviewed but wanted to add. People think that the RMP reviews are fake. I can promise you that these are legit and anyone who has taken Professor Cyrus will also tell you the same things. It's hard as heck but you'll learn a lot. Straight up, he is the best professor at UC Davis(no glaze). Hope you guys can also enjoy the ride of MGT120.
Great Professor. Every lecture has a takeaway that you can apply to your life. Class gives you frameworks for business and teaches you how to get the most out of life. It is a must-take, despite how hard the course is.
Overall great at teaching the materials, however his grading criteria were never very clear. This makes sense in terms of the material (it's all about pulling insight using difficult visual frameworks) but I found the grading to be particularly harsh despite never having rubrics, just "Did you get insight" or not.
You should know the material because he calls on people in class.
Cyrus is a very informative and practical teacher that is much different from other professors at UC Davis. He is very intense and engaging in class which at first is intimidating but as you go throughout the quarter you tend to appreciate. I have never had a three hour class go by so fast. Most real-world class I have taken.
DO THE READINGS 🚨 and apply them to all of your assignments. Cyrus is tough but he genuinely wants everyone to grow and succeed. You're going to hate him for the first couple of weeks and not fully understand why he does things the way he does, but it'll be worth it ✨ my favorite class at UC Davis! TA Ravi was also so kind and helpful.
An MGT 120 class.
This was one of the hardest but most valuable classes I have taken at UCD. I don't recommend if you do not have the time for many hours outside of class. Cyrus is an amazing teacher and the group project was hard but so rewarding. Highly recommend this class if you want to be pushed and feel successful.
extremely hard class but useful. You really need to put lots of time for your group project.
Be prepared to be hands on and actively engage with the class in break outs and group projects. Put in the work and the things you learn will be applicable wherever you goz
Only nerds like him. He reminds me of the education system in China—he teaches in a way that has already been proven worthless, yet he doesn't even realize it. I pity those who like him. I'm not paying tuition to be tortured.
Hard class, but worth every single minute. He's real with you from the very first class, and actually gaf about you and your future. Take him, listen, learn, and just have fun. It's stressful af at times, but if you get a good group the experience is 100% worth it.
I took 150 in the Winter and knew I wanted to take him again. Very inspirational professor who pushes you to be the best you can be.
While challenging, and often frustrating-- this class goes beyond the classroom. You will develop skills that will absolutely suit you in life.
Unlike any other professor I've ever had. Cyrus leads that class with realistic examples and discussions that force you to think outside the box.
If you're willing to put in the work, you should absolutely take MGT 150. But beware: you'll always be working. The frameworks taught are very useful in both the real world and the business world, and all assignments are group.
You get out what you put in. Yes the class is hard work, but as long as you lean in, listen to the feedback given, and have an open mind, you will do well. My biggest regret is not doing more because Cyrus teaches you real skills that are transferable in both the career/business world and in your personal and social circles.
The REALIST Professor I've ever had. He pushes you way out of your comfort zone, in ways you never thought you were capable of. People who don't like him are weak-minded, he gives life lessons that will help you in the real world. He is brutally honest, but you will never forget and learn to appreciate his wise words. Take the risk, take his class.
he is pushing students so hard and no respect to student and very nervous to take class
Insane project work, he is very hard on you because he wants better. He is very nice though and literally everything is mandatory including OHs, this is a class if you dont put in your engagement from week 1 you should just drop.
He is a crazy good prof, you just gotta put ur time in to do it. Lwk block out everything else except the class. Attend every class on time. If your team is cooked, you're cooked, force ur team to be good. He'll let you see.
Great Professor who implements everything he expects of his own students into his teaching, lectures, and assignments.
Took 120 with Cyrus during summer and it was a real tough summer. Not in a bad way but this guy CARES and he will push you HARD. Everything is so applicable and he teaches stuff that nobody teaches you in undergrad. Awesome guy, definitely a big time commitment class due to huge group project. Make sure you read and participate (cold calls).
I would recommend this class to anyone -- regardless of industry. Cyrus shifts your perspective on the working wold and teaches you things that are ACTUALLY applicable. However, it only works if you put in the work. If you genuinely engage and dedicate your time, this class can easily be the best one you take at Davis.
While Cyrus is eccentric in his teaching methods, they really do work! He screams, yells, and uses psychological trauma to get students in the space to learn. So even though he scared the crap out of me throughout the entire quarter, this class was the first class that I attended all lectures and was attentive and had skills to show for.
If you take this class be ready to work.I wanted to learn a lot and I feel like this is the first MGT class out of the 5 others i have taken where I ACTUALLY LEARNED something. The frameworks that he teaches are super helpful to apply in the real world. DO NOT take this class with Cyrus if you just want to come by get your 4 units and leave.
Be ready to work hard and push yourself outside your comfort zone. Very rigorous and at times very challenging, but ultimately one of the most rewarding courses I have taken at UC davis. You actually “learn” in this class!
Cyrus is very tough on you, especially at the beginning but if you're able to get past that and have the grit to continue, the class is very helpful. I actually retained information rather than forgetting it after being tested on it. The only thing is that the class becomes very difficult if you have a bad team. A good team is the key to success.
Participate A LOT. Just throw out answers when you think of anything when he asks in class. Be okay with a heavy amount of reading (that's actually useful) and with this class eating up a good amount of your personal life. I swear the concepts/frameworks will benefit you for the rest of your life if you want to push yourself in any way you want.
Cyrus is a frightening teacher, but very knowledgable. Don't ever be late to his class, he will stop you in the doorway and publicly shame you, or may not even let you into class. You'll feel terrified in his class, but you will learn something. Heavy time commitment, he expects you to meet 3 times a week with your team outside of class.
Felt like 10 weeks of Cyrus bragging about his wealth and success. He creates tension to seem “engaging,” often at others' expense. On day one, he randomly picks three students and asks how their parents “messed them up” in front of the whole class. If you need shock value to hold attention, maybe the material isn't that interesting.
Wow. I wouldn't take him if you just want to get by and get your degree. If you're here to change how you see the world, this class is it. Take it and you will have a quarter full of stress and anxiety. Don't be late. Participate. You'll get out what you put in.
Very informative and lots of real-world application.
Initially I was not a fan of Professor Cyrus and almost dropped the course. I'm glad that I chose not to. Despite him being very intense, this class shaped me in a way that no other class ever has. I felt like I was actually working in a business setting and I ended feeling more ready than I ever have for a big boy job.
DO THE WORK. MGT 120 might very well be the MOST CHALLENGING CLASS THAT YOU TAKE, but I can guarantee that it WILL BE THE MOST USEFUL. Be ready to abandon everything you know about how to succeed in a class, because this is how the real world works. Prof. Cyrus cares deeply about students, even if he seems intimidating. CYRUS IS THE GOAT.
Too many group projects Really professional professor
Professor Cyrus is hard! But you will have the best experience ever. He made me want to learn. Thank you!
Definitely worth taking this course!
It is hard and you need to put a lot of work in to get a good grade but it is worth taking it since you can actually learn what you need to become successful and win jobs.
This class is extremely helpful but the trade off is that it requires huge amount of time outside of class
Taking MGT 120 with Cyrus is like drinking strong coffee. At first it's a little bitter and tastes like it's going to be too strong and hard to finish, but as the quarter progresses, it starts to energize you more and more. The class is definitely a good amount of work, and a lot of it is very dependent on the team you get.
Tons of work on group project, definitely not worth the time to take this class. More like work rather than a class especially when you have ddl for group project.
This professor really cares for the learning and development of each and every one of you. The ability to convey ideas with perfect analogies was amazing. Be prepared to put in the work and be grilled with tough love.
Professor Cyrus is incredible at what he does. At times you will feel overwhelmed, anxious, angry at your group mates, etc. Reach out to Cyrus or the TA's for advice, escalation of group, or any other advice needed. Cyrus and the TA's are almost always reachable, responding as early as 4am to texts and emails or returning calls to as late as 2 am.
MGT 120 was one of the most impactful, but also one of the most difficult, courses I've taken here at UC Davis. Professor Cyrus is a hard grader and won't be like anything else you've ever taken. You'll lose points over small details, as he's not forgiving at all. Don't take MGT 120 as your first class for the tech management minor.
I've taken both of Cyrus' classes (MGT120 & MGT150). MGT120 is far more intense and it does take a couple tries to really understand what he expects of you. The contents of his class are nothing revolutionary, but his character, confidence, and genuine passion for teaching and helping students makes him an outstand teacher. Best teacher at UCD.
I want to recommend Cyrus for anyone who is in a STEM field and seeking a minor in tech mgt. He will be nothing like your bio, physics, engineering, or math professors. His confidence and charisma is inspiring and emulating his character and teachings in industries that lack people like him will help you stand out in interviews and "win jobs!"
Expect to do more work for this class than any other class, the group project takes over your quarter. Pay attention and participate in lecture and ask questions in discussions. He is a real life Harvey Spector, he will be harsh but it is because he sees your potential. If you're willing to invest your time/energy it will be worth it!
Best Professor, I ever had. The 10 weeks were hard but I would pick this class again anytime. His personality compared with the content was the perfect way to learn for me. He changed the way I look at business problem and I feel confident to apply the frameworks in a real company.
